5-0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece for XX Century.
STAR WARS ARE THE BEST SCORE of the Maestro John Williams,
5-0 out of 5 stars Will outlast the movies, no question.
I have listened to John Williams score for this film from start to finish more times than I've watched the film!
5-0 out of 5 stars An Inspired & Intense Soundtrack for an Epic Film
I still remember the first time that I ever saw the original "Star Wars" film back in 1977 in a local theater. In silence, the classic line, "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...," appeared against a black screen.Suddenly, a blaze of John William's main title for "Star Wars" filled the theater and began to capture the minds and hearts of the audience for an adventure of epic proportions.Rich with percussion, brass instruments and a string orchestra, the main title for "Star Wars" is probably one of the most recognized pieces of music in the world today.

5-0 out of 5 stars get it right
I would just like to comment on using correct titles. I am shocked that you cannot get the first Harry Potter book correct. It is "Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone" not philosopher's or what ever you had up there. Please correct it and give John Williams the credit he deserves, he spelled it correctly!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4-0 out of 5 stars Okay
These CDs are okay, but don't have the spirit of the original peices of music written by John Williams, and it's like the orchestra was handed the music, and they didn't look at the emotional part of the peice. But over all, it contains the best of the best, worth the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars A representative overview
The 4 CD's are a good representation of the film music of John Williams. From a few films more than one piece of music is put on the CD. However, recordings of the same pieces with John Williams and the Boston Pops produce a sound that comes much closer to the actual soundtrack of the film. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The saga comes to a close on a great dramatic musical score.
First off I have to say I think John Williams is undoubtly the best soundtrack film composer of them all. John and George really make an unbeatable team. I own all but two of the Star Wars soundtracks, which will tell you how much of a fan I am. Ok lets get down to business. When I first picked this up, it was in no small part due to the fact I wanted to see the dvd that comes with it "Star Wars a musical jounrney" Hosted by none other than the emperor himself Ian Mcdiarmid. Which is great, but I was disappointed with the soundtrack. But with a few more listens, I have realized this is one of the best Star Wars soundtracks. The movie starts off with a battle scene, so the soundtrack starts off with great battle music. The cd then takes turns going between somber pieces, and more spirted ones, very nicely. I'd have to say my 3 favorite tracks are Battle of the heroes, Anakin's betrayal, and Anakin vs. obi-wan. But you can sink you teeth into pretty much every track here. And for those of you that love the original theme on new hope. The last track is that theme, but really expanded. Well that's pretty much it. The Revenge of the sith soundtrack has some beautifly crafted tragic themes to accompany a tragic and flawed movie. A little film review there!

4-0 out of 5 stars Rise, Lord Vader....
The final chapter in the Star Wars saga has drawn to a close. And without John Williams' fine score, it wouldn't have come out as well as it did. The score contains trace elements of the familiar themes we've known since Episode 4, such as the Force, Princess Leia's, Luke's, and the legendary 'Imperial March', Darth Vader's motif. Even the Emperor's motif appears here - the sinister, low brass & bassoon cue. Williams has an amazing talent for scoring to suit the events in the films he has written for, from 'Jaws' & 'Jaws 2' to 'Superman: The Movie', to this one. 'The Immolation' is quite chilling as it shows Anakin's horrifying defeat at the hands of Obi-Wan, and his wounds that will necessitate his transformation - which appears in track 14. Here, the operating room is viewed as Anakin ceases to exist & becomes the black-suited, heavy-breathing Darth Vader we have known since Episode 4. The only reason this score gets 4 stars is that some of the cues are missing.

5-0 out of 5 stars The rising of power!
The movie of Revenge Of The Sith teaches us a lesson that those who gain power are afraid to lose it. Remember, Anakin didn't kill the Jedi to serve Cidious, although Cidious was meant to believe just that. Had the Sith lord shrugged off the fact that from the start, he had manipulated Anakin and the war? No, he hadn't killed the Jedi in service to Cidious. Anakin had executed Palpetine's commands, because the Jedi would've been able to stand in the way of the decisions he and Padme would've needed to make, reguarding the fate of the galaxy(...) beginning with the death of Cidious.

4-0 out of 5 stars Genuine Star Wars
This CD is great! It's everything you'd want it to be in a Star Wars CD. As an avid fan of Star Wars listening to the tracks gives me great mental pictures. Many of the songs have good rising and falling crescendos. My personal favorite is the Love Theme. I just can't get enough of it! It almost makes me want to cry or something. There is only one downfall. Knowing John Williams (the writer and conductor) he writes almost every piece of music for a scene and not really as a song. Sometimes the songs take strange dips and sounds but then this isn't a classical Bach or Beethoven score. Definitely check it out if you love Star Wars

5-0 out of 5 stars quick question
Anybody know where I can get the full scores for episodes II and III? I know they released a two-disc for episode I, but did they release any two-disc sets for the other two?

5-0 out of 5 stars A whole galaxy of inspiration and imagination ...
John Williams is - by far - my own favorite film music composer. And John Williams' music for Star Wars is in a class on its own within his astounding oeuvre. Taken as a whole, John Williams' music for Star Wars IMHO even surpasses his own superb soundtrack music for Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, ET, Close Encounters, Jaws, etc.

My six-year old has become a huge fan of Star Wars and enjoys listening to this disc. It has the best tracks of each episode.

5-0 out of 5 stars Star Wars Saga
Wonderful music.Best from all the movies. How can you go wrong?

4-0 out of 5 stars should have been longer, double cd like LOTR
This is a good compiliation, as usual the City of Prague Orchestra is fantastic with there re-recordings.My biggest complaint is, well, only 1 track form episode 2, one track from episode 6, and all the tracks from episode 1 are on "The Sci Fi album vol 1" and "Space 3: beyond the final frontier".Other tracks were already released on various space and beyond compiliations from silva as well.I think they should have waited until after episode 3 and released a double album..maybe they will...that would be cool. This is a good cd by all means, I just think it should have been longer, a double cd set like the star trek album and lord of the rings. But for what is here, it is performed wonderfully. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Begining of the Prequils
I bought this one to complete my collection of all of the SW Soundtracks, it plays okay but is not my favorite, except for Duel of the Fates. It also doesn't have CD Text Capablility, not the best one prefer OE Trilogy and EP. 3 but good to have to complete your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pure, unadulterated Star Wars
This isn't the full soundtrack, but it's got the majority of the important cues, and more importantly the most memorable ones. There was also an Ultimate 2-Disc set that was released, but that one felt like it was ripped directly from the film, complete with edits and jumps in the music. Here the music is presented as stand-alone pieces, the way it was probably written and the way it should be.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond Excellent
This music proofs there is more between heaven and earth.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Doesn't Get Much Better
This is the fourth recording of "The Planets" I've purchased, and I am extremely pleased. The Los Angeles Philharmonic was at its best here, and much of that was owed to the genius of its then director Zubin Mehta. Crisp arrangements, and a full orchestral sound is how you achieve the full effect of "The Planets." Other conductors should take note. Not my favorite, that honor still goes to the Los Angeles Philharmonic, under the leadership of Leopold Stokowski. But you definitely can't go wrong with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fine CD at a friendly price
I've heard several recordings of "The Planets," and I like this one very much. The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra (with Zubin Mehta conducting) and the Los Angeles Master Chorale (Women's voices) do a fine job of capturing the drama of the work. And I think it was a good idea to couple it with a little of the outer-space-related music of John Williams.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Recording!Good Sound for an ADD source!
Holst's "The Planets" ranks among my favourite classical pieces ever and this version by Mehta and the LA Philharmonic is the best version I've heard. In addition, the sound quality is quite good given the age of the recording and the fact that it comes from an analogue original source and so I can only imagine how much better this would be if it ever gets a remastering job from the best master tapes in Decca's vault.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack! But I got a question . . .
This ISN't Joseph. I am his oldest DAUGHTER.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best film in the Star Wars trilogy is also the best soundtrack in the trilogy
I have been a Star Wars fan since the original Star Wars was released back in 1977 and was still called Star Wars and not Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. But I became a dedicated fan in 1980 when The Empire Strikes Back was released. Not only is it the best film of all six Star Wars films, but it also the best soundtrack in, dare I say it, film history. John Williams is a musical genius who can produce so many emotions with his music. And with The Empire Strikes Back he is able to express sadness, anger, loss, love, fear and tragedy with some great pieces of music. My favorite piece on this soundtrack is The Imperial March. The moment I heard that piece of music chills went down my spine. Every time I hear that piece of music I expect to see Darth Vader march down the hall. It is a strong piece of music along with the other tracks on this two CD set. This is a great addition to a CD collection along with the other Star Wars soundtracks. But if you had to buy only one, then The Empire Strikes Back is the Star Wars soundtrack to own.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Tremendously better sequel and equally great soundtrack!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good popular music.
The interesting issue about this recording is that Williams himself directs. It is always a plus to listen to music played by its author. Average performance by the orchestra.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still great!
John Williams has the magic of translating music from movies. Even not watching the movies themselves, you can still understand what's happening because of the music that comes with it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Performances as well as Music
When I picked up this CD I was amazed. I am a big Williams fan and love the Boston Pops. All the pieces are well done and flawless (except for some small tempo issues in "1941") Though all the peices stand out the handsdown best is "The Cowboys" Overture. The ritch sound as well as the great musicmanship make this a joy to here. Another good highlight is the "Midway" March. Midway was a relitivley underated score being in the middle of "Jaws" and "Star Wars" (Both of witch are also on the CD but, Jaws could have had solid feeling but is otherwise performed rather great) The rousing March in my opinion is as rousing as "Raiders of the Lost Ark" or "Superman" (Both yet again are on the CD and Superman's opening is absolutly breathtaking even better than the actual soundtrack. The Trumpet and French Horn fanfare makes you yourself visualize the might of the man of steel himself. But the Midway march is given a stunning representaion with the ritch, lush sound of the Boston Pop's brass section. The CD also has some of John Williams music for the concert stage such as the well known Olympic Fanfare (1984 Los Angeles), The Liberty Fanfare as well as the Mission Theme (The NBC news anthem) all offer a nice break from the movie scores. The only down side to the CD is that because it was made in 1987 it doesn't have music from Hook, Far and Away, Schindler's List and of course Jurassic Park. But even though it lacks Williams' early 90's scores its always a Joy to listen to as well as a treat for the ears. So i give it two thumbs up and *****.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Final and Astounding Work of Art from John Williams

4-0 out of 5 stars John Williams knows music
Okay, so this isn't my favorite star wars CD but it's good.I'm still hooked on Ep III soundtrack so that's why I haven't broken this one with repeated use.Still, ROTJ was an awesome movie and the soundtrack is responsible for much of the moodsetting.Happy or sad, the tune tells all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Is it the best?
This soundtrack CD is probably one of the best John Williams has ever had and the best among all the star wars CD soundtracks of the classic ones. The songs are much more fun and lively. John Williams knows how to translate the music so well that it can blend in perfectly with the movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Incredible Compilation!
I recieved this set for my Birthday a few years ago, and this, (along with my other Star Wars and John Williams CD's) remains at the front of my CD collection. It's mixtures and arrangements of the score are truly the best, (helmed by John Williams himself) and the London Symphony plays wonderfully.
3-0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag from an audiophile perspective...
Audiophiles, take note -- portions of this anthology sound like they were hastily transferred to digital from a second or third generation copy of the master tapes. There is audible tape dropout in certain parts, as well as some hiss. Now hiss, in and of itself is not a big deal -- I actually prefer that it be left in, for the most part. But the dropouts are unforgivable.I've also heard an occasional crackling distortion, either from the original tapes or digital clipping. This recording was made in 1977, not 1957... why should there be these problems? This stuff is all too audible through a pair of Beyerdynamic DT-880 headphones.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Soundtrack Ever
John Williams is probably the best composer that Hollywood has ever known. Williams has composed music for some of the biggest movies ever made, such as Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, and the Star Wars Saga.

4-0 out of 5 stars Meco Madness
For nostalgia fans only!!This was a huge hit back in the 1970's and it's great fun today.I wore the original LP version out back in the day. Thanks to Hip-O, it's back!!

5-0 out of 5 stars remembering the 70's
since i borrowed it from a friend in 77, recorded in a cassette and worn it in 1981 by playing over and over, y hadn't the pleasure of hearing the epic and heroic version of Meco of Star Wars, so finding it in CD was remembering those crazy days, with digital sound and no scratches on the record. A 70's must have.

2-0 out of 5 stars its not what i remembered
i was expecting the long play version of star wars it was far from it the version here was never played in central fl.there is too much here. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars If you like John Williams soundtracks, you'll love this!
Okay, so the album isn't all John Williams. However, I think the selections to create this album were superb! You get the best of outer space soundtracks with this double CD set!
4-0 out of 5 stars You gotta love it! Perfect for the Sci-Fi fan.
This is a great CD for the Sci-Fi fan.It has all of the music that you could want.It has the classic "Star Wars Suite" from " Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope," but it also includes the "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" suite from Lucas' director buddy, Steven Spielberg.5-0 out of 5 stars Out of This World
This is the version of "Star Wars" you want. It has the raucus, almost bawdy victorious power you remember from the movie.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ulllllltimate Sci-Fi Music Collection
If one person gives great gifts, it's the illustrious Codemaster Talon. I've received a fair number of gifts in my lifetime, but so far, my older sister's take the cake. Take this one for instance. I'm real big on orchestral music, to the point where I listen to them more than any other kind of music. I've got orchestral versions of video game themes, orchestral soundtracks to truck-loads of anime shows (Big O, Escaflowne, and Giant Robo are incredible), and could probably spend the rest of my life just trying to study the nuances of all the classical music I've got. Being such a huge fan of orchestral music, I also have come to believe that orchestra music produced for movies and television is the new classical music (or as someone once said, Mozart would be making music for movies if he were alive today). Being a huge sci-fi fan, that kind of music has always been particularly near and dear to my heart. But were I to buy each and every soundtrack for every sci-fi I liked it would cost quite a bundle, and would include a lot of sub-par music along with the grandiose and fantastic main and memorable themes. That's where this beauty comes in.
5-0 out of 5 stars SciFi Album gift
I bought the Science Fiction Album as a gift for my son who is twenty-one years old.He is a musician, and also a huge fan of many SciFi shows and movies.I thought this would be the perfect thing for him and I was right. He loves it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Away From to be a Collectible Peace
If you like Sci-Fi movies and want a compilation of their important scores, this is the CD-set to buy. But let me warn you about that very few songs in the cds are from the original soundtracks. Most of them is re-recorded by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. But the sound quality of cds are very good, because they have HDCD and Dolby Surround labels. This set is away from to be a collectible peace, but it is a good general compilation of favorite Sci-Fi movie scores. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars If you don't want to buy each score, get this compilation
This is a great representation of the excellent music Williams wrote for the original trilogy. Many of these tracks are completely fantastic. There are a couple of tracks that I wouldn't have added to this compilation in favor of adding others (the sand people track is pretty boring) and the cantina music ends with some really weird sounding synth effects or something, but the rest of the album is great.I'd give it 4 1/2 if I could.

5-0 out of 5 stars una gran seleccion de star wars
4-0 out of 5 stars Star Wars Music Sampler
The Star Wars Trilogy: John Williams Conducts John Williams is a 13-track "sampler" of selected orchestral arrangements from the 1977-83 "Classic" Episodes of George Lucas' space opera set "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away."Not to be confused with either the Varese Sarabande 1983 recording with a similar title, this 1990 Sony Classical offering showcases the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the composer.Read more
