5-0 out of 5 stars Zach Braff REALLY knows what rocks.
The soundtrack CD to Zach Braff's "Garden State" pulls an impressive double coup: simultaneously it's one of the best movie soundtrack CDs of recent years and also one of the best rock music compilations. There isn't a single dud song on this disc, and several of them--such as "In the Waiting Line" (Zero 7), "I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You" (Colin Hay), "Blue Eyes" (Cary Brothers), "One of These Things First" (Nick Drake), "Such Great Heights" (Iron and Wine), and "Let Go" (Frou Frou) have become favorites of mine. Braff also does music listeners everywhere a vital service by reviving "The Only Living Boy in New York," probably the least known of the truly great Simon & Garfunkel songs. The soundtrack to "Garden State" is not only great listening on its own, but it succeeds spectacularly in doing what every soundtrack CD ought to do: it makes me want to see the movie again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest sound track ever
So, my girlfriend and I saw this movie some time ago and fell in love instantly. Half way through the movie we knew that we had to buy this sound track. I mean seriously, Ive never heard one better. If this is your kind of music, you will love almost every song on this CD. There is only 1 we seem to agree not to like, but that should in no way stop you from getting all the other great tracks from this album. Now when we watch the movie, every song that comes on we have to jump up and say "that's my favorite" from the opening scene to the end credits. Listening to this sound track will truely make this movie one of your favorites, if it wasnt already. A+ in my book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fine collection!
Selected by the actor/director and writer himself - Zach Bach, he did an impressive job of hand picking songs that embodied the emotional fine points of the movie. Not only do these tracks magnificently harmonize the movie, the songs complement each other seamlessly, and when put together, it created something fantastic as if the tracks should have never been apart to begin with.

5-0 out of 5 stars How could this not be good?
First of all, the cast was great! For those of you that are die-hard original cast fans, you still have to admit that Hollywood did a good job on this one.The music, of course, is incredible. The added song, sung by Minnie Driver, although really not of the same caliber as the other songs, is a great addition to the CD.As you're listening to the songs, you know exactly where you are in the movie, they've set it up really well.As per the usual, Amazon provided speedy, quality service and I received the CD right away.Anyone who liked the movie and found themselves singing along will find this CD to be a must-have for their personal collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Broadway, But Still Worth Watching
If you have never seen any version (Broadway, book, or movie) of The Phantom of the Opera, this is a worthwhile movie to watch. However, if you have seen the Broadway show or read the book of The Phantom of the Opera, then you will probably be a little bit disappointed, but it is still worth watching.
5-0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking Music
I felt Gerard Butler was the perfect Phantom despite what some other reviewers have stated...he is dark, sexy, passionate with his emotions - his voice is incredible and fits the character perfectly.

I liked this CD, but not every track.Beware, you cannot load it onto your computer.Had I known this, I would not have purchased the CD regardless of how much I like the soundtrack.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Music
Although O brother where art thou is not the best of Coen brother's films, this soundtrack is remarkable. "I' man of constant sorrow" is a logical hit, quite a catchy tune, but "Po Lazarus", "Big rock candy mountain" "I'll fly away" or "Down in the river to pray" give all sorts of bluegrass, country and gospel moods, all perfectly executed.
5-0 out of 5 stars A surprise!
I love this CD. Which is a shocker. I can't stand blue grass, don't even like country. But the quality of singing voices and the immpeckable instrumental execution makes me an admirer. I bought this cd because I watched the movie and Goerge Clooney's 'singing' performance made me laugh. I smile alot when listening to this cd. Very well done. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This remake of the 1996 Japanese film that set unlikely box office records in its native country turns more on a sexy, cinematic dance revivalism than the charms of stars Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez. While its soundtrack never veers far from that noble task, it gratifyingly jolts its familiar rumbas and tango rhythms with a few modern musical kicks all its own. Pussycat Dolls' crisp, sensuous take of the standard "Sway" may subtly juice tradition, but Gotan Project's "Santa Maria" gives those familiar Latin rhythms a downright savory electronica makeover. Producer/arranger John Altman underscores tradition via his versions of chestnuts both lively ("Happy Feet") and ethno-apropos ("Espana Cani," "Perfidia," "Andalucia") and even a suitably schmaltzy cover of Mancini's signature "Moon River." Altman's sturdy musical background helps focus songs as diverse as Peter Gabriel's bittersweet "The Book of Love" and Gizelle O'Cole/Pilar Montenegro's vibrant, modern Latin-inflected title song, Jamie Cullum's club-beat-meets-lounge take on "I Could Have Danced All Night" and Miya's slinky, hip-hop seasoned remake of Bowie's "Let's Dance."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Romance is still alive in Shall We Dance CD and DVD
I watch this movie over and over. The story is wonderful, the acting is great--who can resist Richard Gere's tiny smile towards his wife, Susan Sarandon. And this was my first intro to Jennifer Lopez who was excellent and a wonderful dancer. The music?? Well, I had to have the music; it is varied and it is romantic and uplifting and introduced me to Peter Gabriel and other music. You won't be sorry to buy this music--it makes you want to get up and dance slow and fast!!And if you are a little bit of an oldster, like me, it will bring back youthful and memorable feelings of romance and real love!

5-0 out of 5 stars Exercise care if playing this CD while driving in your car!!
This CD rocks! If you liked the movie and the music, this is the CD for you.Latin music, Richard Gere in a tux, what's not to like? The caution about playing it in your car is because the first time I listened to it was in the car and it's really hard to dance and drive at the same time (although I tried!)

5-0 out of 5 stars love it!
Surprised myself, but I listen to this album more often than I ever dreamed.Excellent sound and the variety of artists increase its entertainment value.Additionally, the interpretation by today's artists are quite interesting against those of Cole Porter himself and his contemporaries. It's a buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars De-Lovely, De-Vine, De-Perfect
For decades Cole Porter's songs have been considered musical standards. It's no mystery why.Cole Porter's songs were undeniably catchy and fun when he wrote them, they were sophisticated and fun when Las Vegas headliners in the 60's performed them, and they're just as effective performed by contemporary vocalists, like on this soundtrack to the Cole Porter biopic "De-Lovely."

Fashion be damned: Pop culture is just one big Hometown Buffet forwriter-director Quentin Tarantino. Nowhere has that sensibility beenmore apparent than on his hand-picked soundtrack choices, and this ofttongue-in-cheek tale of a female assassin's revenge (his first film insix years) is no exception. With dizzy, almost palpable glee, Tarantinoevokes the international hall-of-mirrors influences that energizemartial arts films and much of Asian pop culture in general. Thus thehip-hop of Wu Tang's RZA (who, along with composer Charles Bernstein, concocts what passes for the score's traditional cues) somehow findsitself but one ingredient in a heady souffle that includes vintage TVand film cue rarities (Al Hirt's main title from Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The song with the siren opening is ...
... Quincy Jones' theme from "Ironside".An excerpt from it is on the soundtrack.

4-0 out of 5 stars Revenge and The Black Mamba
Comas are a deep sleep wherein a victim is neither living nor dead. The mantle of darkness protect the soul from the reality which put it there. However, an ancient proverb states, that "if the spirit has unfinished business in the world of the living, then woe betide those who put it there." Such is the premise of Kill Bill. Once part of an elite group of world wide assassins, 'B.B', the victim, {Uma Thurman} awakens and recalls well who tried to kill her. Throughout the rest of the film, viewers are introduced to her former friends all code named after the world's most venomous snakes. Not sure of the reason why she was nearly murdered, " Black Manba" as B.B. was code named, (The deadliest snake) goes after each of the assassins. It has been suggested, were Bruce Lee to have lived, this vehicle would have been his. Instead, the story was redesigned with a feminine twist and all the explosive action and martial arts confrontations were designed in the fertile mind of action Director Quinton Tarentino. From the first to the last, exciting sub-plots and well-choreographed martial arts scenes give this film it's special quality. The main target of B.B.'s revenge is of course none other than Master (Kung Fu) David Carradine as Bill. It is he and his 'Snake" team which consists of Lucy Liu who plays O-Ren Ishii, Vivica A. Fox as Vernita Green, Daryl Hannah as Elle Driver and Michael Madson who now become the intended targets. Interest in the film is ample as each killer has their own story and each contains the special formula of subtle sex, exciting physical confrontation and superb samurai action. In the end, what can be said of Kill Bill One? If this film is fantastic, I can't wait for the part II. (of which there is) Excellent. ****

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for little ones
I am not a fan of little kids (under 5) sitting and watching a 2 hour movie. However, listening to soundtracks of musicals is a great thing for them. There is nothing cuter than hearing a toddler belt out "When I fink of a day that's gray and wonely I just pick up my chin and grin and say..." while you are driving. I love it! Plus, there seems to be a small window of opportunity for this since the kids become more inhibited as they get older.

Much more than a typical romance soundtrack, the soundtrack is equally balanced. Having non-Christmas songs and Christmas songs, this soundtrack also has some happy songs and sad songs. My favorites being Here With Me performed By Dido and I'll See It Through performed by Texas. The soundtrack is highly recommended. Dido steals the show with Here With Me, a beautiful and intelligant song that has a meaning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everybody get down!
This is undoubtably one of the best soundtracks ever released.Ten of the 17 songs here were hits, including seven #1 hits.Of course, only about half the music here was specifically recorded for the movie.Specifically, the first four Bee Gees songs, the Yvonne Elliman song, the Tavares song and the instrumental score by David Shire were especially recorded for the film. The rest of the songs are a year or two older, and some of them had already been hits long before the movie came out.Of course, none of that detracts from the quality of the album. It's really fun to listen to, unless you're one of those people who insist that "disco sucks".

THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is a bizarre film with a charming (though somewhat morbid) sensibility. There are many parts that make movie whole, but one of the things I enjoyed most about the film was the musical moments when the characters burst into song. This soundtrack to the film includes the vocal arrangements from the movie as well as the score written by Danny Elfman. Some of my favorite tunes on the album are:

5-0 out of 5 stars A BEAUTIFUL SOUNDTRACK: BELONGS IN EVERY COLLECTION!
The beautifully joyful and hauntingly sad sounds of this wonderful soundtrack belong in every music lover's collection. There isn't a track on this CD that I think is mediocre. They're all great! Yann Tiersen is a multi-talented musician, and when I first saw Amelie a few years ago, it was the music that captivated me to the film.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have --- one of the best EVER!
This soundtrack will take you right back to the movie Amelie but, even if you've not seen the movie, it is a great CD to have on hand. The songs are all so very French but subtle yet intense. This is great dinner party music or rainy day, sitting at home, reading a book music. This CD is a must-have and one that you will never get tired of.It definitely does the movie justice.

5-0 out of 5 stars i want to be a great pianist because of this
I don't know how to describe the music of this soundtrack... it's just too... I can't even find the right adjective. But the point here is, I love the soundtrack so much. I love how the sounds fit into the film just right, and how it touches me each time I hear the tracks playing. What I love the most is La Valse D'Amelie (piano version) because of its melancholic sound that surely has a great impact on listeners. Actually, this track is one of the major reasons why I wanted to learn how to play the piano. The other tracks are also great, because they make you feel like you have nothing to worry about, thus bringing comfort to your busy mind.

This is a production rife with odd pairings: English actor Daniel Day-Lewis joining up with the Mohawks; James Fenimore Cooper adapted by Michael Mann; disparate composers Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman teaming up. This last pairing seems a suspicious attempt to endow the score of this modern film adaptation of a junior high school literary evergreen with both a golden age of Hollywood dramatic bent (Jones) and a '90s-slick guitar-muzak veneer (Edelman). A strange amalgam that doesn't quite work. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars MAGNIFICENT
Jerry McCulley's Amazon.com review is surely a joke. This movie and this soundtrack are the most stirring to come down the pike in a very long time. "Promentory" is, to me, the most moving of all the tracks--dark, poignant, and uplifting all at the same time--and can stand on its own as a magnificent work. But, of course, the whole CD is well worth having. Several years after its release I'm still enjoying the grandeur of it all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Part of the Sea!
When I was a very little girl, my parents told me the story about a little mermaid that written by Anderson. This was one of the most wonderful stories that I couldn't forget. Several years later, I watched the movie "The Little Mermaid" of Disney. I was deeply attracted by it. And what attracted me most was the music in it. Then my parents bought this soundtrack CD for me as my 14th birthday gift.
5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this movie!

5-0 out of 5 stars Works with iPod
To all those who might hesitate to buy this wonderful CD, of one of the greatest Disney movies ever, because of a review here on Amazon that the CD could not be downloaded to the iPod. This is NOT true. I got my CD yesterday and downloaded it directly onto my iPod without any problems. Now I can hear the gorgeous music of "The little Mermaid" wherever I want!!! Don't hesitate to buy this CD, the songs are great and a must for every fan of Disney movies and this in particular. I, also had been concerned about buying this CD, becuse this review said it would not work with the iPod. But I did buy it then and it DOES work !!!! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Quentin Tarantino wraps up his dizzy double-dose of martial arts filmtribute cum informed paean to junk cinema with thethrow-it-all-against-wall abandon that's become his cliched trademark,if not necessarily his true strength as a filmmaker. That sensibilityhas long informed his quirky, world-pop savvy soundtracks as well, though this chapter's collection gratifyingly sacrifices a dollop ofeclecticism in favor of a little more focused nuance. Revolving looselyaround a decidedly international, free-floating axis of Latin rhythm(Chingon's "Malaguena Salerosa, " the flamenco-demento of Lole YManuel's "Tu Mira") and Western twang, Tarantino's choices includeMorricone both familiar (Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Music From Kill Bill 2....
I remember first seeing Kill Bill part 1 in the theatre, and hearing the opening track (Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang"). It was solely this track that made me want to pick up that soundtrack, and which lead me to picking up this sequel as well. I like this soundtrack much better. Yeah sure, some songs from the movie aren't on here. This album still delivers though. Among my favs:
3-0 out of 5 stars missing songs spoilt it for me
i too wish i had been more careful and read the reviews, then i would have noticed all the missings songs and that the main one i wanted ( navajo joe - ennio morricone --bills exit ) was not on there. i still would have bought it but would not have been so dissapointed when i got to the end. i also feel very cheated.
3-0 out of 5 stars Another song missing from the soundtrack
Another song that is missing from this soundtrack is "Sweet the Sting" by Tori Amos. This is playing in the very end of the movie as Uma is driving down the road in the convertible. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Soul and R&B legend Ray Charles may not have lived to see the success of Hollywood's ultimate tribute to him, but director Taylor Hackford's biopic (featuring a landmark performance by Jamie Foxx as the musical legend) will further burnish his legacy as one of the cornerstones of contemporary American music. Though it stretches from 1953's ecstatic, proto-soul "Mess Around" to a sublime, bluesy live take of "Georgia on My Mind" recorded in Japan in the mid-'70s, this 17-track song-score can only be an inviting appetizer to the singer's epochal body of work. Charles's artistry may have virtually defined soul music, yet it also triumphed in genres as far afield as blues ("Nightime Is the Right Time") and country ("I Can't Stop Loving You," "Bye Bye Love") during the '60s, the impossibly rich era from which the bulk of this soundtrack is culled. Crucially, fully a third of the cuts here are live recordings--including electrifying 1965 performances of "What'd I Say," "You Don't Know Me," and "Hallelujah I Love Her So" hand-picked for the film by Charles himself--the forum in which the singer consistently operated on a whole other artistic plateau from mere mortals.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Reprinted review of Ray: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from Sound the Sirens Magazine
Ray Charles
3-0 out of 5 stars Bait and switch... maybe
The Ray Soundtrack was a disappointment in that the sound is not even close to the quality of the music on the DVD. Now to be sure, it is the same music.Allow me to explain; in the movie, each song has a dramatic "jump" to it that is absent in the soundtrack. It's like the editors pulled the original records, re-mastered them and laid the tracks down on this CD in the exact order as they appeared in the film.So what you get is Ray, but it is does not have the soul of the same music as in the movie.I'm not sure I can explain it correctly but it's as if the movie and Jamie Foxx stylized the same songs to have that "oomph" that's missing from this re-mastered collection of original tunes. To test my theory, I made a dub of "What'd I Say" from the DVD and played it back-to-back with this CD's version of the same song. The difference is unbelievable.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!
I regret that didn't understand or know the complete genius that was Ray Charles when he was alive.I think that he was just one of the artist you take advantage of becuase he was always here.Sure, I knew a few songs.Being from GA, "Georgia on my Mind" is as much a part of me as breathing, but this soundtrack amazed me.This is simply great music.I'm now filling my CD collection with everything that is Ray.If you buy this soundtrack be prepared to be amazed. This is what music is supposed to sound like. ... Kind of disappointed with this cd. Some of the great songs that were in the movie aren't on here, and some of the songs on here I don't recognize at all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good cd, but missing a major song
We enjoyed this cd, but found that we really missed the "Over The Rainbow" song by the great "IZ". There may have been some legal reason why this song was not on this cd, but I know many, many people who assumed the Rainbow song would be on the cd and were disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Unique Take On The Musical Soundtrack
This Soundtrack has alot to offer.Though the movie was fantastic, I feel the music made it into a true masterpeice. The songs are all remakes with new arangments which actually fix any flaws the originals had.Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor both have very good voices. Most notable is Ewan McGregor's version of "Your Song" which is so good that it gave me chills. Also El Tango De Roxanne is a great song.Hindi Sad Diamonds mixes pop with Bollywood with great results.A must have Soundtrack!

1-0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment
I loved the movie; I hate the CD. Sadly, the music without the movie just doesn't cut it. Some of the songs don't even sound the same and there are some extra songs added in. I have wanted to order this CD forever and finally got around to doing it recently. I just lisetened to it for the first and last time. It will go out at my next garage sale. What a waste of money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some Amazing songs, others are lacking
Songs like "Your Song", "Elephant Love Medley", and "Come What May" make this soundtrack. The more crappy ones like "Lady Marmalade" don't. If you're going to buy this CD, I suggest you buy the second Moulin Rouge soundtrack which includes the amazing end credits song "Bolero", many instrumental background music pieces, and songs like "Like a Virgin" and "The Pitch" which were fun songs in the movie which shouldn't have been left out of this CD. ... Editorial Review

This romantic fantasy plays like an MTV-inspired daydream-come-true as 20-something's Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet spend the better part of a decade having flirtatious encounters and one night stands until they chance upon a perfectly obvious Hollywood ending. Anchored by the Rock of the '90s nostalgia ofThird Eye Blind's buoyant "Semi-Charmed Life", Smash Mouth (the resilient, '60s psych-pop throwback "Walkin' On the Sun"), Eagle-Eye Cherry's "Save Tonight" and the unlikely jubilance of The Cure's "Mint Car," it’s a soundtrack whose disposition is by turns sunny and bittersweet. 3-0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack Review
This is a fine compilation of many songs that caught my ear when I watched the movie. There were even songs on this CD that I don't remember hearing when I saw the movie, however, the music is pretty nice.

5-0 out of 5 stars All the best!
One great part of the movie 'A Lot Like Love' was the music. It kept you going with the scenes and characters throughout their ordeals, ups, and downs.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very good soundtrack
I got this because of "Brighter Than Sunshine" but it also reminded me about "Walking on the Sun" and I loved getting to know "Mad About You" by Hooverphonic.I only skip over two or three songs -- I'm not a fan of the Cure, and "Trouble" gets a little old, but of the 5 cds that I bought at the same time, this one gets the most airtime because it has so many cool songs.
