4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Soundtrack
This soundtrack is a mix.My favorite songs are some of the prototype 80's tracks: Danger Zone, Mighty Wings, & Through the Fire. But it also has some great oldies like Dock of the Bay & Great Balls of Fire.If you haven't seen this movie yet then go out and rent it.Then pick up a copy of the soundtrack.

5-0 out of 5 stars TOP GUN MOVIE AND SOUND TRACK
I LOVE TOPGUN,ITS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER!I THINK IT INSPIRED LOTS OF PEOPLE, INCLUDING MYSELF ON FUTURE ASPIRATIONS.HERE'S TOO MANY HOURS OF GOOD LISTENING, ENJOY.S:-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Stuff I could listen to all day.
I've seen the movie, loved it, and then after that I listened to the soundtrack, and loved it. The music is just the kind of stuff you could listen to all day. Some of my favorite songs (Danger Zone by Kenny Logins, Take My Breath Away by Berlin, You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling by The Righteous Brothers, and Great Balls Of Fire by Jerry Lee Lewis) come from this soundtrack. Two thumbs up. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars As good as the movie, the music is fitting, fun show to see and hear
I saw this show live on broadway, immediatly had to buy the album afterwards.Stephen Lynch was a perfect fit for this role.Unfortunately his understudy did the show the night I was there, but I can hear Lynch do the songs as they were meant to be here on the CD. Excellent sound, great splicing, gets the story through.Lynch really has the raw voice to not sound so "broadwayish" and fake, makes the role feel real, much as Adam Sandler had played it.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best musical of 2006!
Shame it won no Tony awards, but that just goes to show how screwed up they are. 2006 will be remembered as the year the Best Musical Tony was stolen from The Wedding Singer just as in 2004 when Wicked lost. It is a beautiful recording and kudos to all who star in the production. My personal favorite is the song. "Right In Front of Your Eyes" with the wonderful Amy Spanger (of Reefer Madness!).

4-0 out of 5 stars Well produced cast album of what appears to be a lively and enjoyable show
The past few seasons Broadway has been flooded with stage adaptations of popular movies: THE PRODUCERS, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, THE LION KING, and now comes THE WEDDING SINGER from the hit Adam Sandler film. Boasting a lively score by newcomers Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, the show has been struggling at the box-office thanks to mixed reviews and being shut out at the Tony awards. The cast album gets off to a great start with "It's your wedding day" and there are several other numbers along the way that do what good show tunes should do: develop the plot and detail the characters.Stars Stephen Lynch and Laura Benanti play well off each other, even if not every song is pure gold. Even if THE WEDDING SINGER fails on Broadway it will probably have a long and healthy life in regional and community theatres. The booklet contains a detailed synopsis and all the lyrics as well as quite a few pictures from the show.

Like the movie itself, the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack is filled with emotional twists; from the hardness of Garbage's "#1 Crush" and the Butthole Surfers' "Whatever" to Stina Nordenstam's endearing, whispery "Little Star" the journey is all over the map. Here are three dozen pieces of music, all played by Yo-Yo Ma, culled from his extensive discography. Aside from the technical mastery and beautiful tone that are absolutes in all of his playing, one is dazzled by his curiosity and ability to adapt to so many forms and types of music. His Bach and Vivaldi are pellucid and played with non-sentimental crispness, his tango music gritty and rhythmically pungent, his jazz seemingly spontaneous, the "Meditation" from Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Collection!
Between these two disks, the listener experiences the expansive swath of this virtuoso's briliant repetoire.I bought the disk primarily for Bach's Prelude from Cello Suite No 1 in G Major, but I also loved the other Bach selections and the hauntingly beautiful rendition of "Simple Gifts".I have heard other performances by Yo-Yo Ma of this Cello suite selection, but I found this version to be the most stylistically appealing--at least by my humble tastes.I usually avoid compilation cds ("best of" is usually a turn off), but this is a definite thumbs-up.At the very least, it will point the way to other selections to pursue in greater depth. It really is a great musical find!

4-0 out of 5 stars DVD purchase
Purchasing this product was hassle free and arrived well packaged in short time frame considering overseas destination.
5-0 out of 5 stars After heearing both discs-- totally Out-0f-Sight!
Before first hearing this awesome Essential Yo-Yo Ma, my hearing Yo-Yo Ma in person came from a few feet from front-stage. Yet hearing him on ear-phones on this CD each morning, you get sucherie aura of inner presence, from the Prelude of Bach Suite No 1 in G major, then Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, Sheep May Safely Graze, full Orchestra with Wachet Auf, "Simple Gifts" played by the Master Musician, sung by the plaintive soprano voice of an angel, two Morricone Pieces, "Gabriel's Oboe and the Falls" + "The Eternal Vow," from the Crouching Tiger and "The Cellist of Sarajevo." It is 153 minutes of blessed, calming, soothing, heavenly, Eternally Peaceful, flowing of Melodies!

3-0 out of 5 stars where is the missing milan medley???
the milan medley is only on the import version of the kinky boots soundtrack, and the track list above is the list for that version.its a great track, the highlight of the soundtrack and of the movie, and its worth the extra cash to buy the import version.boo to amazon for not correcting this error.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun Movie, Fun Soundtrack
But if you're buying the CD for the Milan Medley, think again; unfortunately, the soundtrack doesn't include that track, so 3 stars is all it gets.Amazon shows the medley in the track listing, and on their website for this CD, Hollwood Records also indicates it's there (you'd think they'd at least have it right).
4-0 out of 5 stars The Kinky Boots
Great soundtrack if you love sitting in "The House of Blues" if you know what I mean. Having some songs that have the word "shoes" in it, is quite easy to enjoy. The music is pretty cool and worth the listen to, not worth me listening to it constantly in my CD player, but quite fun to just listen to for a a couple of days in a row. This is highly recommended to you if you the "sit around" type of person and just "chill out" type of person.

4-0 out of 5 stars One more review of the singing performances
One more comment regarding the vocal performances: I agree that Christine and the Phantom have weaker voices than the actors from the London cast, but they have one major point in their favor: THEY DON'T HAVE SEVERE INTONATION PROBLEMS!!!
4-0 out of 5 stars An okay rendition of a great musical
I'm a big fan of the music of Phantom of the Opera but I can't say that the music portion of this movie really blows me away.Christine I like but the phantom I found to be breathy and not as into his part as he could have been.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sizzling
I have seen and heard MANY different companies perform Phantom of the Opera on stage. All were Amazing... During you felt all of the emotions compassion, pity, envy, rage etc. BUT Gerard Butler evoked a new emotions never felt by his singing.... passion this sensual quality that makes you stop and say WOW the Phantom is HOT and Sexy. Christine what are you doing choosing Roual When Gerard signs "Point of No Return" you can FEEL the passion and tension in the air.Don't get my wrong Michael Crawford or Brad Little's were well done but because their voices are so different you just don't fell the heat or passion in his version as you do with Gerard's.

4-0 out of 5 stars A SECOND SOUND ROAD TRIP? YES!
As with any road trip, one CD just ain't enough.Director Cameron Crowe often constructs music in his films as "cinematic radio stations," and the tunes in Elizabethtown have spilled onto a second disc. And a delightful one it is! The Southern rock mix features a roster divided between performers coming back (such as Ryan Adams, who scores high with the haunting "Words," specially written for the film) and those who are making their Elziabethtown soundtrack debut, such as Pinback and The Concretes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Track listing
For those of you who, like me, want to know who performed what:
5-0 out of 5 stars 15 songs. No waste. Better than Vol. 1.
You may not like all Cameron Crowe movies. As a matter of fact, I found Elizabethtown a bit dissapointing. But one thing you can't argue is that all of them carry an impeccable music selection, something that comes from Crowe's days as a write for Rolling Stone magazine. "Elizabethtown" was no exception to this, and aware of the fact, the movie saw two soundtrack volumes spinning off of it. I have found Volume 2 to be more solid than Volume 1 in general, with 15 tracks that have no waste. Topping the list are the tracks by Tom Petty, Kathleen Edwards and Ryan Adams. I give it five stars: great selections of classics and classics-to-be. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Follow-Up CD
This CD probably won't be worth much to anyone who doesn't have a significant interest in either the artistic value of music or in the Halo series, but it's a good follow-up to the first CD. Definitely worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Moving and Atmospheric
Having all three Halo soundtracks (the first one and volumes one and two for the second) I can safely say that this is the pick of the three.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great music from a great game!
Once again this music does not fail to deliver. This long awaited vol 2 is worth the wait. Most of the music has been compiled into suites whch lets you relive the entire game through the music. The only problem I have with it is that none of the classic themes are present, and the best that it has are varuiations on those themes. That being said you should buy this soundtrack, but if you do not own the Halo 2 vol 1 soundtrack of the Halo 1 soundtrack then you should buy them also. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Even better than Vol. 1
Volume 2 of the Soundtrack for "Six Feet Under" simply blows Volume 1 out by going a step beyond what its predecessor did. Incorporating a balanced combination of the best of the indie world at the time of its release (Death Cab for Cutie, The Arcade Fire, Interpol, etc.) with a handful of recent classics (Radiohead's "Lucky" and Coldplay's "Rush of Blood to the Head") and an opening track by Nina Simone from 1965, the album brings great memories from an even greater TV show that we will miss sorely.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Solid Soundtrack
Nice CD. I always liked the effort the producers upt into choosing music for the show, as music helps immensely in creating emotions. All of the other reviewers' comments were right on the money with regards to this album, and I am happy I own both volumes of this soundtrack (Wish each season would have released a collection, but I guess that hardline aficionados can piece together their own favorites...) Sorry to see the show end, but alas, Everything Does.

3-0 out of 5 stars i wish it weren't the end

5-0 out of 5 stars An overlooked masterpiece that slipped under the radar.
Though the film itself may have left some viewers itching to leave the theater (with a rather gratuitous running time of 178 minutes), the score alone from "Meet Joe Black" makes it one of the more memorable films of 1998. In fact, Thomas Newman's score makes such an impact that it is able to stand out as a separate work of art all on its own. Hell, I would even go so far as to say it's a masterpiece.
5-0 out of 5 stars "Meet Thomas Newman" - The best album of his works so far !
I admit I'm a little late concidering the release date and this soundtrack is way too good to have never heard of it. But with score it's like with everything else: You must make the experience yourself! And so will the movie of "Meet Joe Black" has been recently shown on television. And I cannot begin to tell how amazed and sad at once I was -- amazed by the talent a composer can ever carry (Thomas Newman turns out to be a god) and deeply sad about how I could ever miss this beautiful composition for so many years (that's inexcusable)! This truly is - without exaggerating anything - one of the greatest and most affecting orchestral scores ever written for a movie!!! Everyone who listens to the score, even without having watched the movie at first, will know what I mean! This beautiful album of instrumental tracks I would highly recommend to try for yourself with no need for the DVD at all! The movie is a typical fantasy romance with Mr. Death sneaking in someone else's body and our stereotyped Barbie, who both fall in love with each other, but cannot be together forever, so he breaks her heart, kills her father and then sends back the old inhabitant of this body, and so on... <---this plot must not meet everyones taste or expectations to a 08/15-US-movie-romance! But in the center of focus for now is the score and this one I can only recommend as mostly scores completely drown within the intenseness of a movie; but in this case the movie wouldn't be what it is without those soft violin strives and the sensitive accompaniment of the piano sounds.

Arguably one of the oddest films to emerge from the modern Disney Entertainment empire, this scrappy 1992 live-action musical tells the tale of a turn-of-the-last-century labor uprising among New York City's newsboys (or "Newsies")--an especially ironic topic given the Mouse House's own historical labor relations problems. I am a big fan of musicals, growing up watching and being entertained by them all. They have such a great, magical, quality, they are able to chase any gray cloud away. I think the newsies is one of those classic stories that just gives you a feel good experience weither you've watched for the first time or the hundreth. The song and dance numbers are infectous and the story itself is amazing.

Lions and tigers and bears, the yellow brick road, gamboling midgets, warnings scrawled high above by a skywriting witch: No movie ever imprinted itself on young imaginations or endured in adult memory more than MGM's classic 1939 musical, and no movie score ever hooked as forcefully into our collective cultural memory. This exemplary soundtrack finally treats this deserved classic to a thoughtful and comprehensive rendering (an even more detailed, expanded version was also released simultaneously as a deluxe box) that confirms the enduring power of Harold Arlen's original music and E. Y. "Yip" Harburg's lyrics. On film, the songs unreeled as a mixture of discreet songs and multi-themed medleys with frequent reprises, a presentation preserved here, epitomized in the "Munchkinland Musical Sequence." If not as concise as Bobby McFerrin's legendary, hilarious concert compression of the entire musical story, this telling of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wizard of oz: selections from the original motion picture sountrack
The CD came promptly. My grandchildren, children and I had a great time listening to it without watching the DVD and going through all of the scenes. We are very happy with our purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Captivating, just like the movie
It is true that CDs created from antquated recording equipment show their age. This one is no exception, but the sound to me is still quite good and it is surprising that the production turned out so well.
4-0 out of 5 stars Almost Over the Rainbow
This version of The Wizard of Oz proves three things: 1) MGM may well have been the Tiffany's of movie studios back in the 30's, but their sound department was pretty primitive; 2) Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg were a stupendous team and Herbert Stothart (MGM's music director) was a darned good arranger; 3) Judy Garland was a miracle.

Totally enjoyable. After a few listens you can't help but sing along.

5-0 out of 5 stars Liked the movie, loved the songs!
Aside from the fact that I loved the movie, most of that came from loving the songs on the movie. I got to a place where I wanted to hear them a lot, but didn't want to skip around on the movie to find the song I wanted to hear. So I bought this soundtrack. It was well worth it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overall
The "Fiddler on the Roof" film has a terrific reputation, and deservedly so-the casting was excellent, and it shines through on this recording, both in subtle nuances and changes and in larger, more noticeable things, such as added musical numbers. At a couple points I was disappointed at the omissions of some parts-a handful of lines scattered through, as well as a number from the original, "The Rumor"-but those weaknesses aren't sufficient to lower the rating I give it. ... This is one of my all time favorite soundtracks to listen to.
5-0 out of 5 stars WORTH EVERY PENNY AND THEN SOME!
Quite simply put, this is the MOST BEAUTIFUL MUSIC I have ever heard. No music has ever touched me the way the music in Out Of Africa does. Every song is so beautifully done. THANK YOU, JOHN BARRY for sharing your beautiful talent with me and the world. I am forever grateful. You won't go wrong with this CD! It's "out of this world"!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Family listening!
I used this DVD to teach the kids a song from Vacation bible school, and had a bunch of people ask me where I bought it.It was just what I needed.

2-0 out of 5 stars BEFORE it was a musical...
BEFORE it was a musical it was a cantata with orchestra and children's choir. Slicked, glossed, and cheesy, the broadway versions all fall short of the original, concise masterpiece recorded on the ONE AND ONLY ORIGINAL version alas, out of print and available only on vinyl. As overblown broadway versions go, this 1992 version may be the best. But, for those of us who grew up listening to the original, the broadway versions do nothing but disappoint. The Joseph Consortium version of the original cantata recording included Tim Rice singing the role of Pharoah and was released by Scepter Records. Where the rights may be now for re-release, who knows?

Over the years, I have tried in vain to purchase the "real" original version.. Yes, Donny Osmond is decent and all.. I grew up watching him and his family on tv.. But concerning this title, they try to pass off the various versions on this site and in stores as "The Original Version".. It's not... I have the "Real" Original version on vinyl.. I've been looking to replace it on CD..

5-0 out of 5 stars Ignore the Naysayers
I've never understood the vitriol that is often directed at this CD as evidenced by many of the one star reviews posted here. Many complain that some of the music that was in the movie is not included here (although virtually all of it is) and then complain that Emmy Rossum's version of "Barbara Allen" is limited to a few seconds.Did you not see the movie? Her version of the song that was in the movie was only a few seconds as it was those few seconds that led the character of Lily to "discover" that many of the locals in the mountain community she was visiting still sung the old English ballads that the movie was centered on.In other words, they are upset because some music in the movie is not included here, and because some of the music from that movie that is here is EXACTLY like it was in the movie.Which is it people?
5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Saro, Alone Worth The Price of Admission
Great songs sung by great singers. So what if much of it was not in the movie? This is still first rate.Besides, Iris Demen't take on the traditional ballad "Pretty Saro" is worth every penny you spend on this and it *WAS* in the movie and is here in all its glorious entirety.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Modern Tribute To A Tradition
While the music hear isn't 100% traditional mountain music, it carries with it a deep reverence for that music and gives it a contemporary touch.Anyone who thinks that this is "commercial" music hasn't been listening to the tripe that clutters up commercial radio these days and anyone who is upset because the CD contains little of the music on the movie didn't pay very close attention when they were watching the movie as most of the music in the film only played for a few seconds. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Recording I Have Ever Heard
The orchestrations are breathtaking. The cast members act, sing, and play instruments! What talent! Michael Cerveris is phenomenal! Patti LuPone is amusing and wonderful as always as Sweeney's pie shop sweetie. Manoel Felciano is heartbreaking as Tobey, performing the best rendition of "Not While I'm Around" that i have ever heard. Lauren Molina is equally talented as she brings a delicate, yet exotic soprano to the beautiful character of Joanna. I am so happy that i had the pleasure of seeing this in New York and meeting this ever-so-talented cast. How come they left out some of the dialogue/music towards the end? They did not include the Parlor Songs or Tobey in the bakehouse on this recording. Oh well, the music they do give us is positively spectaculer. I love Sweeney Todd!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite right
This is a very uneven recording. I have not seen this production, and am a big fan of the original produciton and album. I think a minimalist produciton can work, and I quite like the musical arrangements which tend to allow the voices to stand out. Sweeney himself is remarkable. Most of the rest of the cast does well too. But Lupone disappoints as Mrs. Lovett -- she sounds flat and monotonic. Bamford also sounds like he is on way too strong medication. And what's with a female Pirelli?
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect.
Sweeney Todd is the greatest musical that has ever been made, this cast is the best that I've ever heard, Sondheim is the greatest lyricist and composer of musical theatre, and the revival production on Broadway was the single greatest thing I've seen on Broadway in the past 10 years. Cerveris owns the role of Sweeney, it really is going to be the crowning achievment in his impressive career, he's that good in it. Lupone is a goddess of musical theatre as usual, and supporting players like Alex Gemignani and Mano Felciano are standouts among an exceptionally talented cast.

Editorial Review

This recording was produced more than 40 years ago, only in mono, but from the day it was released it was a deserved phenomenon. It out-grossed the mega-hit show for months, and it still holds the record for the most weeks as a Billboard Top 40 album: 292. The reasons are many. Start with the 20-year-old Julie Andrews in peak voice, singing no fewer than eight sensational Lerner and Loewe songs, soaring most memorably to high C in "I Could Have Danced All Night." Rex Harrison perfected the art of talk-singing in a clutch of equally captivating numbers written especially for his voice, of which the most indelibly delivered is "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face." And Stanley Holloway brought the best English music-hall style to an eager American audience with "A Little Bit of Luck" and "Get Me to the Church on Time." There were no scene-changers in Frederick Loewe's best score, and Alan Jay Lerner managed to fashion his libretto and lyrics so close to the language of George Bernard Shaw (on whose play Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I've grown accustomed to this disc.
I really don't like show tunes that much.I listen to rock, blues, some jazz and I have a few classical favorites, but I'm not a show tune person. So, I'm crankin' my vinyl LP version of this very recording right now and I'm loving it (or lovering it) despite myself!
4-0 out of 5 stars My Fair Lady 1956
My family had this as an LP when I was young.Great performances!Too bad Julie Andrews was not in the movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still the Best
What can you say about MFL that hasn't already been said. Sublime, perfect, classic. This is still the definitive recording of the show, and no one has ever come close to the original cast. Sadly, while the movie is wonderful, had Warner Bros. used Andrew's it might have been one of the greatest film musicals of all time. And while Audrey Hepburn gamely gives it her all, Andrew's had clearly made Eliza Doolittle her own, and she would have been uncomparable on film, and raised the level of the entire movie. Well, the rest is history, Andrews went on to be one of the biggest movie stars of the 60's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing soundtrack @}->---
This is definately one of the best - if not the best - soundtracks in the history of movie soundtracks. You cannot help but love it.It's so amazing.Yes it has that 80's feel, but to me it is timeless.I was 10 when this came out and I love it now even to this day.Manic, What A Feeling, Lady Lady Lady and Imagination are brilliant songs.Gloria was also in the movie but not on the cd.Well at least we got one fantastic song from the late great Laura Brannigan on here (Imagination).
