5-0 out of 5 stars A BEAUTIFUL SOUNDTRACK: BELONGS IN EVERY COLLECTION!
The beautifully joyful and hauntingly sad sounds of this wonderful soundtrack belong in every music lover's collection. There isn't a track on this CD that I think is mediocre. They're all great! Yann Tiersen is a multi-talented musician, and when I first saw Amelie a few years ago, it was the music that captivated me to the film.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have --- one of the best EVER!
This soundtrack will take you right back to the movie Amelie but, even if you've not seen the movie, it is a great CD to have on hand. The songs are all so very French but subtle yet intense. This is great dinner party music or rainy day, sitting at home, reading a book music. This CD is a must-have and one that you will never get tired of.It definitely does the movie justice.

5-0 out of 5 stars i want to be a great pianist because of this
I don't know how to describe the music of this soundtrack... it's just too... I can't even find the right adjective. But the point here is, I love the soundtrack so much. I love how the sounds fit into the film just right, and how it touches me each time I hear the tracks playing. What I love the most is La Valse D'Amelie (piano version) because of its melancholic sound that surely has a great impact on listeners. Actually, this track is one of the major reasons why I wanted to learn how to play the piano. The other tracks are also great, because they make you feel like you have nothing to worry about, thus bringing comfort to your busy mind.

I can't believe it's late May and here I am listening to A Charlie Brown Christmas that I just got in from an Amazon seller in anticipation of this upcoming Christmas season... but like most people my age, it's almost the definitive icon of Christmas memories no matter what the actual season may be.

2-0 out of 5 stars Boo.... hiss!
This is good hip-hop music, but that's ALL it is.The infectious tango track from the movie, (which was even used again for the title page on DVD), is conspicuously NOT there, nor any waltz, rumba or other ballroom music tracks that were in the movie.I THOUGHT THIS WAS A MOVIE ABOUT URBAN SCHOOL KIDS WHO LEARN BALLROOM DANCING!Sure, the hip-hop tracks should be there too because that was an integral part of the film, but that was only about half the music in the film. And in this case, the absence of ballroom dancing tracks, for a movie specifically about ballroom dancing is unforgivable. There should be a disclaimer on the cover of this CD to warn away anyone looking for the great, danceable tango, waltz, etc. tracks that were in the film.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed
Watched the movie on DVD, loved it so much I immediately got on-line and bought the soundtrack. One of the things I liked about the movie is the juxtaposition of ballroom music and hiphop. The soundtrack for this movie about ballroom dancing does not have a single track of the ballroom music on it!What's up with that?!

3-0 out of 5 stars music good but too much vulgarity
I was disappointed that potentially good music would have some much vulgarity. Not for children. ... Read more

Dianne Reeves's cool contralto, fronted by a quicksilver combo featuring saxophonist Matt Catingub and pianist Peter Martin, provides the flowing jazz soundtrack to GeorgeClooney's 1950s, film detailing the epic struggle between the legendary TVnewsman Edward R. Murrow and the Communist-baiting Senator Joseph McCarthy.Reeves' delivery is flawless and swinging on these mostly mid-tempo/balladtakes on several timeless classics (including Nat King Cole's "Straighten Upand Fly Right," Duke Ellington's "Solitude," and the bouncy Dinah Washingtonhit "TV is the Thing This Year"). Two other selections, "Pick Yourself Up"and "Too Close for Comfort," dance with a Latin lilt; the loneinstrumental, "When I Fall in Love," is as romantic as they come. 5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I loved it! It has all of my favorite music from all of my favorite Disney movies: The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King! Although I have to say I didn't recognize some of the older songs and don't really jump for joy when some of the Mary Poppins songs play, I still really love this classic Cd set!

3-0 out of 5 stars Classic Disney: 60 Years of Musical Magic

This is a production rife with odd pairings: English actor Daniel Day-Lewis joining up with the Mohawks; James Fenimore Cooper adapted by Michael Mann; disparate composers Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman teaming up. This last pairing seems a suspicious attempt to endow the score of this modern film adaptation of a junior high school literary evergreen with both a golden age of Hollywood dramatic bent (Jones) and a '90s-slick guitar-muzak veneer (Edelman). A strange amalgam that doesn't quite work. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars MAGNIFICENT
Jerry McCulley's Amazon.com review is surely a joke. This movie and this soundtrack are the most stirring to come down the pike in a very long time. "Promentory" is, to me, the most moving of all the tracks--dark, poignant, and uplifting all at the same time--and can stand on its own as a magnificent work. But, of course, the whole CD is well worth having. Several years after its release I'm still enjoying the grandeur of it all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Soundtrack EVER!!!
The movie is great, the soundtrack transcends space and time. There is absolutely no equal.Epic movies deserve epic soundtracks, and oh boy is this one.Simply a goosebump producing, bone-chilling, emotional lightning storm of greatness. If you don't feel like a glowing ball of energy after this one, well...........

5-0 out of 5 stars Additional Tracks Missing From Album...
There are a couple additional tracks that missed the official soundtrack release. They are the following:
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Period Soundtrack
This is actually a great peroid soundtrack. There's no dead wood on this one. All of these are classic examples of 70's rock.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brings back memories of the mid-70's
While watching the movie "Invincible" at the theater, the music really stood out because it totally captured the mood of the mid-1970's time period in which it's set.Just hearing these songs that were popular when I was entering my teens brought back lots of great memories.

This soundtrack serves up a collision of musical styles, as if the coolest radio stations of Tokyo and New York had suddenly melded into a giant hybrid. The Teriyaki Boyz' opening title track is typical: brilliant production by the Neptunes, East-meets-West mood, more hipness than you can shake a stick at. The Japanese hip-hop group's other offering here, "Cho Large," isn't quite as good but fortunately it's the rare lame-ish track on a CD that overall keeps things on overdrive. Highlights include DJ Shadow's collaboration with Mos Def, "Six Days (Remix)"; Japanese girl surf experts 5.6.7.8's (already familiar to Read more

For his second Broadway musical (and first time out writing a full show directly for the stage), Elton John certainly set his sights high by turning to one of the grandest of all operas as a source. His continued collaboration with lyricist Tim Rice has produced a work far closer to the agreeable pop style and formula of the team's Disney musical, Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One of Disneys Best!
So Disney has a tendency to take basic ideas and make them astheticly wonderful, but the real musical theater aspect is lost. Luckily, Aida does not fall in that category. The only main artistic license that Disney took with "Aida" was making her form Nubia (shes from a different country in the opera) so they could play the whole race card. That aside, I love this musical. The Music is great, the lyrics are great, I listened to it non stop when I first got it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. My favorite songs would be "The Gods Love Nubia" and "Written in The Stars."

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad... Not good...
One major reason to buy this CD is the EXCELLENT cast, Sherie Renee Scott, Heather Headly, Adam Pascal, but the score is lacking. There are a few good songs that make it into my favorites but the rest seem to be just fillers, I would buy the four good songs off of iTunes and leave the rest to be undiscovered.
5-0 out of 5 stars Aida is definitely worth buying
I became a "Renthead" as soon as I heard the music, and immediately fell in love with the voices of Adam Pascal and Idina Menzel. I heard about "Aida", and how Adam was in it, and how Idina had done it at one point, too, so I figured, "Why not?" So I tried it. And I'm really glad I did. Not only is Adam's rocker voice amazing, Elton John and Tim Rice really outdid themselves. "Aida" is a lot like "The Lion King", which was also really successful. At first I thought that I would be really biased against Sherie Rene Scott because she plays the part that Idina had. I was afraid I would totally blow off her voice, going, "It's not Idina. Whatever." But although she is not Idina, she is really good in her own way, and I think her voice is very beautiful and has a very strong tone. Then, I had heard so much about the "phenomenal" Heather Headley, but I have to say, I was somewhat non-impressed. I was waiting for this voice to totally blow me away, but I found her voice kind-of sharp and rough at times, not like the PLEASINGLY jagged voice of Adam, or the smooth liquidity of Sherie Rene. But even though I didn't think she had the best performance by far, this is still a very good buy. If you like uplifting Pop/Rock music, and beautiful love ballads, you will love "Aida". ... Quentin Tarantino wraps up his dizzy double-dose of martial arts filmtribute cum informed paean to junk cinema with thethrow-it-all-against-wall abandon that's become his cliched trademark,if not necessarily his true strength as a filmmaker. That sensibilityhas long informed his quirky, world-pop savvy soundtracks as well, though this chapter's collection gratifyingly sacrifices a dollop ofeclecticism in favor of a little more focused nuance. Revolving looselyaround a decidedly international, free-floating axis of Latin rhythm(Chingon's "Malaguena Salerosa, " the flamenco-demento of Lole YManuel's "Tu Mira") and Western twang, Tarantino's choices includeMorricone both familiar (Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Music From Kill Bill 2....
I remember first seeing Kill Bill part 1 in the theatre, and hearing the opening track (Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang"). It was solely this track that made me want to pick up that soundtrack, and which lead me to picking up this sequel as well. I like this soundtrack much better. Yeah sure, some songs from the movie aren't on here. This album still delivers though. Among my favs:

The appeal of this album isn't limited to children--though the gentle repertoire and soft acoustic musical accompaniment will surely soothe little ones at the end of a long day, adults will find the silky-smooth vocals, beautiful harmonies, and creative production just as engaging. Parents will enjoy listening to the metamorphosis of Loggins's 1969 Top 40 hit "House on Pooh Corner" to the updated '90s version. And with titles like the traditional "All the Pretty Little Ponies" and "To-Ra-Loo-Ra" and covers of Paul Williams's "Rainbow Connection," Jimmy Webb's "The Last Unicorn," and John Lennon's "Love," Mom might find herself borrowing this CD from the nursery when it comes time to kick back and relax after the kids are asleep. This CD is absolutely fabulous! It was given to us as a gift for my first son... and its now a standard baby present for us to share with others. The music is soft, the songs are a mix of the familiar (Like Rainbow Connection and Too La Roo La Roo La) and the new. Michael Bennett's 1975 tale of Broadway's gypsies--the chorus dancers--resonated with audiences as few shows ever have, examining with both hilarity and heartbreak the grueling life of ordinary performers always auditioning for an opportunity to be members of a faceless chorus line. And along the way, it picked up the Pulitzer, the New York Drama Critics Award, and nine Tonys, and became the longest-running show in Broadway history. The original cast (eight of whom contributed their real-life memories to the show) included no major stars, but are unmatched on this cast recording of Marvin Hamlisch and Edward Kleban's score, including Priscilla Lopez's poignant "Nothing," Donna McKechnie's yearning dance number "The Music and the Mirror," one of Broadway's most famous torch ballads in "What I Did for Love," and the ultimate high-kicking chorus number, "One." Fans of the show will welcome the 1998 remastered CD, which adds two and a half minutes to "Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love." While still incomplete, the montage now includes "Four-foot ten," "Little brat," and "The worst thing in school...."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars chorus line cd
service and timing was exceptional on this purchase.order placed, shipped and received in a matter of a few days.

3-0 out of 5 stars Perfect First for a collection
The best thing about A Chorus Line is not only does it have great music, great lyrics, and a great script, but also it lets the entire world see what actors, singers, and dancers go through. Which is why I put this as the First CD to buy for someone interested in broadway. If you have a collection and don't have this, best get on that. This show is a great introduction into broadway and a wonderful study of the arts. Favorite Songs: "Sing" & "What I Did for Love"

5-0 out of 5 stars AN ABSOLUTE CLASSIC!
It's one of the finest soundtracks for a B'way musical I've ever heard. The CD captures the best moments of the show including some songs that will live forever such as "What I Did for Love", "One" and "I Hope I Get It". I've seen the play three times: twice in B'way and once in London (very good but not as good as the B'way version at the Shubert). It's one of those shows that remain forever in your mind and heart and that you know for certain it's a great classic of all times. No collectors of B'way shows can miss this one: it's a MUST, in capital letters. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Soul and R&B legend Ray Charles may not have lived to see the success of Hollywood's ultimate tribute to him, but director Taylor Hackford's biopic (featuring a landmark performance by Jamie Foxx as the musical legend) will further burnish his legacy as one of the cornerstones of contemporary American music. Though it stretches from 1953's ecstatic, proto-soul "Mess Around" to a sublime, bluesy live take of "Georgia on My Mind" recorded in Japan in the mid-'70s, this 17-track song-score can only be an inviting appetizer to the singer's epochal body of work. Charles's artistry may have virtually defined soul music, yet it also triumphed in genres as far afield as blues ("Nightime Is the Right Time") and country ("I Can't Stop Loving You," "Bye Bye Love") during the '60s, the impossibly rich era from which the bulk of this soundtrack is culled. Crucially, fully a third of the cuts here are live recordings--including electrifying 1965 performances of "What'd I Say," "You Don't Know Me," and "Hallelujah I Love Her So" hand-picked for the film by Charles himself--the forum in which the singer consistently operated on a whole other artistic plateau from mere mortals.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Reprinted review of Ray: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from Sound the Sirens Magazine
Ray Charles
3-0 out of 5 stars Bait and switch... maybe
The Ray Soundtrack was a disappointment in that the sound is not even close to the quality of the music on the DVD. Now to be sure, it is the same music.Allow me to explain; in the movie, each song has a dramatic "jump" to it that is absent in the soundtrack. It's like the editors pulled the original records, re-mastered them and laid the tracks down on this CD in the exact order as they appeared in the film.So what you get is Ray, but it is does not have the soul of the same music as in the movie.I'm not sure I can explain it correctly but it's as if the movie and Jamie Foxx stylized the same songs to have that "oomph" that's missing from this re-mastered collection of original tunes. To test my theory, I made a dub of "What'd I Say" from the DVD and played it back-to-back with this CD's version of the same song. The difference is unbelievable.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!
I regret that didn't understand or know the complete genius that was Ray Charles when he was alive.I think that he was just one of the artist you take advantage of becuase he was always here.Sure, I knew a few songs.Being from GA, "Georgia on my Mind" is as much a part of me as breathing, but this soundtrack amazed me.This is simply great music.I'm now filling my CD collection with everything that is Ray.If you buy this soundtrack be prepared to be amazed. This is what music is supposed to sound like. ... Kind of disappointed with this cd. Some of the great songs that were in the movie aren't on here, and some of the songs on here I don't recognize at all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good cd, but missing a major song
We enjoyed this cd, but found that we really missed the "Over The Rainbow" song by the great "IZ". There may have been some legal reason why this song was not on this cd, but I know many, many people who assumed the Rainbow song would be on the cd and were disappointed.

Way back in 1991, many of us saw the single-handed salvation and revival of the old-fashioned American-style Broadway musical comedy. True, it was in the form of a feature-length Disney cartoon, but Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best CD EVER!!
I really loved this CD. Being a HUGE Broadway fan, I absolutely crave new talents and soundtracks. First, the vocal sounds were wonderful, especially Terrence Mann as the Beast and Susan Egan as Belle. Second, the songs are so beautiful. 'If I Can't Love Her' is a wonderful way to see how lonely and depressed the Beast is. 'Gaston' shows what a hothead the guy is. 'Human Again',my personal favorite, expresses the enchanted objects' longings to be human once more. And, of course, we absolutely CANNOT forget 'Beauty and the Beast', which sort of tells the story of Belle and the Beast. This CD is fabulous and truly is something every Broadway fan should have in their collection. I give it 3 thumbs up!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Its Good, but its disney.
If you read my reviews you will find I am not a fan of Disney on broadway. Mainly becasue disney uses asthetics more than music or scripts to make their shows work. Beauty and the Beast is one of the many movies to broadway, and while it is nothing special (just like the movie) the Beast IS amazing. On this recording his voice is the best I have ever heard. "If I Can't Love Her" is so gut wrenching. So what I'm saying is, if you own the movie, and arent really into broadway, dont bother getting this CD. If your a collector, or a baritone looking for songs, this CD has one or two for you, and is worth the price. Favorite Song: "If I Can't Love Her"

4-0 out of 5 stars "Great musical. Not the best in the world though."
Overrated. Not as epic as it could be. "The Lion King" is Disney's true musical masterpiece.

At long last, Lindsay Lohan and Meryl Streep sing on the same CD. Okay, so they don't actually duet, but both do perform on the soundtrack to Robert Altman's take on Garrison Keillor's popular radio show. (Keillor fans will know exactly what to expect, as the film is scrupulously faithful to his universe, and Keillor and his Shoe Band wrote a good deal of the songs.) As anybody who's seen Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars enjoyable but somewhat disappointing
after perceiving the film to be a historical piece of movie theater;the sound track seemed a bit dis-jointed in transitioning from song to song. some additonal narration could have helped the flow of music . .
2-0 out of 5 stars Buy the CD, skip the DVD
If you love "A Prairie Home Companion," it is fun to watch top stars perform with Garrison, and I admired how subtly he wove Lake Wobegon stories into the dialogue. However, if you expect movies to have plots, this flick isn't for you. No discernable rising action or climax, and the resolution was limp, as if Garrison ran out of ideas to tie up the direction he took the material. I wish GK had instead presented his annual joke show. Don't let the movie fool you if you've never heard "A Prairie Home Companion." It is a 100% entertaining radio show. The songs in the movie are well-performed and I was impressed with the peformances. Woody Harrelson, Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin can sing!

5-0 out of 5 stars Every bit as excellent as the movie!
This is a great soundtrack! I love it just as much as I love the movie itself. I purchased it shortly after I got the DVD, and I can honestly say that I got my money's worth.
1-0 out of 5 stars Wunder ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like Alanis Morissette, but her voice is so un appealing with this song?I could think of several other artist that could sing this song much better than she can.I swear I wanted to puke when I heard her try to moan this song out.My dog howled in dis- approval, need I say more?

It would be nice if just once producers/directors/script-writers could realize why a story, novel, etc. is ageless and priceless and do it totally true to the original...
