Editorial Review

In its own way, this soundtrack to the cult SciFi Channel series embodies all the trends of film and, to a certain extent, TV-scoring circa 2006. Alien universes and mysterious plots are suggested by exotic instruments like gamelans and taikos; an otherwordly woman comes in at regular intervals to vocalize esoterically ("Lords of Kobol"); and thundering percussions suggest action ("Scar"). It's as if cult band Dead Can Dance were on the required listening list for American screen composers ("Gina Escapes"). Composer Bear McCreary pulls off the mix better than some of his contemporaries because, this being TV, he probably doesn't have the budget of a big Hollywood composer and so he can't rely on a ginormous orchestra to do the work for him (i.e., he can't just pile on dozens of violins to suggest mood). Look for ex-Oingo Boingo member Steve Bartek (who's orchestrated many of Danny Hellman's finest scores) on guest guitar on the final track, "Black Market." Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Stupendous
Enchanting. Superb. Mesmerizing. Heart-stopping.
5-0 out of 5 stars An evolution beyond compare
This iteration of the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack series is, so far, the best. In fact, I'm convinced this is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard, for film or TV. First - the variety of styles from episode to episode involves a lot more string and guitar arrangements than did season 1, yet they all still maintain a cohesive thread that binds them together. The taiko drums depicting the deep, dark, quiet solitude of space are still there, and very prominently on a couple of tracks. The refinement of the opening credits theme song, which appears 2nd to last on the disc, fits nicely... and provides a nice gap between the main part of the soundtrack, and the killer finale - a heavy guitar laden tour de force written for the Black Market episode.
5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely
The music for Battlestar Galactica just keeps getting better and better. This music in season two is rich, densely layered, and full of emotion. I applaud the creators of the show for presenting new music in each season.I will happily keep buying the soundtracks. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Thanks to a fortuitous intersection of talent and fate, 22-year-old Josh Groban hasn't finished his senior year in performing arts school but has already released his sophomore effort on a major major label. Fans of the young vocal phenom's debut will find much to enthrall them here, even if it nudges the singer closer to the center of producer/mentor David Foster's MOR pop sensibilities. Eschewing much of its predecessor's more overt classic-lite pretensions and pop-rock covers for a slate of dramatic, Eurocentric ballads that serve as a showcase for the singer's inviting baritone, Groban shrewdly positions himself as the American alternative to the Bocelli-Watson crossover axis. "Caruso" may find the singer falling short of its operatic inspiration, but "Oceano" and "My Confession" quickly showcase his truedramatic range (which seems to all but yearn for a bona fide Broadway musical challenge), while a vocal take of Bacalov's graceful "Il Postino" theme uses classical virtuoso Joshua Bell's violin flourishes to good effect. To his credit, Groban displays some promising efforts at songwriting collaboration on the bittersweet "Per Te" and "Remember When It Rains," while the ambient/ethnic soundscape of Deep Forest's "Never Let Go" offers a teasing alternative to the record's otherwise melodramatic production formula. Groban has found commercial triumph via Foster's mentoring, but there remains a nagging sense here that he hasn't truly pushed himself as an artist--yet.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love Josh Groban's work
I love Josh Groban's work. I own both his first CD and Closer. I would buy all of his CDs except I have never been fond of live concert CDs. I think the fans clapping and shouting out detract from the artist's work and so I tend to stay away from those sort of CDs. May he continue producing new work so I can continue finding new CDs to listen to.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST MALE ALBUM EVER!!!
As my title states, Josh Groban's CD has to be THE BEST MALE ALBUM EVER!!!The tracks show off Josh's amazing vocal range and talent, along with a wide range of different languages, such as French, Spanish, and Italian. There isn't one track that I wouldn't want to skip, but my all-time favorite song has to be "You Raise Me Up".Amazing vocals, choral arrangments, and instrumentals accompany this piece, and you just want to listen to it over and over again!I also recommend that if you love Josh Groban, you may want to look into other classical superstars, such as Charlotte Church or Sarah Brightman.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great music
I love his first album and I love this one.No, Josh cannot be compared to some of the finer classical singers (as "MaestroMichael" so scathingly said in his review) but that isn't why most people like his albums.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a kids soundtrack
I notice some of the other people comparing this to the Replacements etc. Its a soundtrack to a kids movie written by the lead singer of the Replacements. Paul makes fun catchy songs that best anything written for other soundtracks such as Elton John - Lion King, etc.. There is some fantastic guitar riffs on this. Love You in the Fall is a great example. All the 'Mats fans need to lighten up. Enjoy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't say what hasn't been said already EXCEPT
Between this and the best of, that's FOUR songs with some conglomeration of The Mats (at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the original members). We know they can do it, so why don't they, to borrow a reference from their past, "go all the way" with a new album?I'm throwing it down here.Paul, Tommy, Chris, GIVE US WHAT WE WANT.NO MORE TEASING!IT'S BEEN 17 YEARS, AND WE SPENT SIXTEEN BLUE (bad pun).
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Paul EP....
I was a little afraid when i heard about this release. I never really wanted Paul to come out of the basement. But, I was pleasantly surprised upon hearing this stuff. Track by Track.

5-0 out of 5 stars To Expand Your Musical Horizons (Or At Least To Expand Mine)
I adored this CD. Being a huge Gilmore Girls fan I asked for this for my birthday as I had no money, and have not regretted it. I can listen to it over and over without getting sick of it, and I never want to skip a track, though I have my preferences (Clear Spot, One Line, I'm The Man Who Murdered Love, Human Behaviour, Where You Lead I Will Follow, I Don't Mind, It's Alright, Baby, God Only Knows). I was pleased to hear that I agreed with Rory on Child Psychology - I liked it because it made me 'gloomy'. I also love Sam Phillips and the 'la-la' music from the show, and the cues make great transitions on this CD, just as they do in between scenes. I'm ashamed to say I hardly knew any of this music before watching Gilmore Girls, but this CD has made me want albums by every artist on here, so that's probably what my next birthday list will consist of.

3-0 out of 5 stars Our Little Corner of the World: Music From Gilmore Girls
The CD provides the themes heard on Gilmore Girls and that is interesting. However, I was looking for something more such as music referred to by Lorelai, Rory and Lane. As an example, it might have had "Shadow Dancing". It is not a CD I would RIP to a hard drive for inclusion with an evening of music. I would have a hard time playing the CD more than the three times I have played it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Gilmore Girls Rock
I loved the CD. The main reason I bought the CD is that my 8 month old daughter loves the music during the episodes. I own the 1st 4 seasons on DVD and we are just about out of shows to watch. She loves the opening song and the closing credits. The only thing I was upset over was that the closing credits were not on the CD. Otherwise, it is a CD that will rock in our household for years to come. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How could this not be good?
First of all, the cast was great! For those of you that are die-hard original cast fans, you still have to admit that Hollywood did a good job on this one.The music, of course, is incredible. The added song, sung by Minnie Driver, although really not of the same caliber as the other songs, is a great addition to the CD.As you're listening to the songs, you know exactly where you are in the movie, they've set it up really well.As per the usual, Amazon provided speedy, quality service and I received the CD right away.Anyone who liked the movie and found themselves singing along will find this CD to be a must-have for their personal collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Broadway, But Still Worth Watching
If you have never seen any version (Broadway, book, or movie) of The Phantom of the Opera, this is a worthwhile movie to watch. However, if you have seen the Broadway show or read the book of The Phantom of the Opera, then you will probably be a little bit disappointed, but it is still worth watching.
5-0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking Music
I felt Gerard Butler was the perfect Phantom despite what some other reviewers have stated...he is dark, sexy, passionate with his emotions - his voice is incredible and fits the character perfectly.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Music Is Always A Necessary Ingredient.
Music played a big part in the illusion of this movie as it set the tone for what was taking place on the screen."Wish I Would See You Again" was effective as the two lovers meet and discover all over again that the chemistry is still there, and most effective was the train scene when "Eisenheim Disappears." It was all an illusion (the whole movie), but the music helped to try to sort things out.
5-0 out of 5 stars Glass is a Master
The music for the film The Illusionist adds enormously to your appreciation of the film, it underlines the mystery, the illusion, in the story, and heightens the emotion and fantasy elements.I loved the film, and listening to the music has made me more aware of what I loved about it. For example, the music begins with a major chord. Followed by a minor chord. This creates a sense of drama and shadow - sunlight obscured by darkness. Glass is also a master of melody, with a beautiful theme for the Sophie music. The Illusionist theme is dramatic and portentous, perfectly suiting the magical doings of the plot. This is a skillful, seductive score. If you loved the film, you will love the music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravissimo Philip Glass!!!
This is more than a score for a film, it is classical music deserving of the highest respect.Echoing sentiment of many others based on his early works, I, too, thought Philip Glass was just another minimalist experimenters with a limited ouvre. But time and time again, especially with powerful scores notably; The Truman Show, Fog Of War and now, The Illusionist, I believe Philip Glass proves his place among the finest composers of our time, period.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay, but Let It Be Naked is what you want...
When George Martin was asked if he wanted his name as the producer of this album, he reffused. I can't blame him. The Beatles intended Get Back, or Let It Be, as it was finnished, to be pure rock without overdubs and that junk. Thanks to Phil Spector and his "Wall of Sound", this back to the basics album was ruined. Although it wasn't that good for beginers, some of these songs would have been better. Then,in 2003, the seldom played Let It Be Naked... was released, the way it was intended. If you want REAL Beatles' music, buy Let It Be Naked... and get your money's worth.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Beatles let loose
I've always thought that the "Get Back" sessions were one of the most fascinating periods of the Beatles' history. The back-to-basics concept; the infighting; the iconic rooftop concert; the multiple attempts to create a finished album from dozens of songs and hours of aimless tapes; the treasure trove of bootleg material that surfaced years later. The album that finally did emerge from the sessions, "Let It Be," is as intriguing a document as any other produced by the band. The Beatles have such a reputation for perfectionism that it's refreshing to hear them let loose and bash out a few jams. And despite the palpable strain of the sessions (captured in the "Let It Be" film), their musical partnership was still strong and capable of producing amazing collaborative efforts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music!
The music is beautiful! If you enjoyed this film you will enjoy this CD. A rollercoaster of POTC is waiting for you! The most themes are from the first movie. You'll hear all kinds of moods in this music: heroic, lyrical, dramatic, ironic, and, all together - very inspirational! It just makes you feel the movie better - a great example of soundtrack and movie complementing each other. This music gives a lot of speed, passion, feeling of "being there" and, makes the movie complete. Thank you to composers for such a great work done!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent! A Must Buy for Pirates Fans!
This soundtrack is just as good, if not, better than the actual movie! Hans Zimmer is an amazing man and has written perfect music for this movie. The soundtrack rocks from beginning to end. It tells the movie's story while taking on a life of its own. Mr. Zimmer definitely deserves an Academy Award for this project! Highly Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Soundtrack - some repeat tracks
Having heard about the darkness manifested in "Dead Man's Chest", I almost did not go and see it. I was pleasently surprised however, that when I did go see it I enjoyed it alot. I own the sound track for "Black Pearl" and having really enjoyed that, I really hoped the sequal would not decrease in music quality. I was not disapointed.

I liked this CD, but not every track.Beware, you cannot load it onto your computer.Had I known this, I would not have purchased the CD regardless of how much I like the soundtrack.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Music
Although O brother where art thou is not the best of Coen brother's films, this soundtrack is remarkable. "I' man of constant sorrow" is a logical hit, quite a catchy tune, but "Po Lazarus", "Big rock candy mountain" "I'll fly away" or "Down in the river to pray" give all sorts of bluegrass, country and gospel moods, all perfectly executed.
5-0 out of 5 stars A surprise!
I love this CD. Which is a shocker. I can't stand blue grass, don't even like country. But the quality of singing voices and the immpeckable instrumental execution makes me an admirer. Editorial Review

Already an accomplished poet and novelist before he ambled into the music business in his mid-'30s, Leonard Cohen has remained as musically influential as he is publicly enigmatic for four decades. This celebration of Cohen's songbook began as a free concert that quickly mushroomed into a star-studded live tribute film shot at Sydney's famed Opera House and Brighton Dome. Musically supervised by Hal Willner (who's produced similar recorded tributes to Mingus, Monk, Rota and Weill), it recasts Cohen's evocative, emotionally uncompromisingsongs in compelling performances by singers who range from fellow cult heroes Nick Cave and Beth Orton to energetic newcomer Teddy Thompson and even rock gods U2. The latter's powerful collaboration with Cohen himself on the signature "Tower of Song" bookends Martha Wainright's solo opening rendition of the composition, deftly underscoring the project's eclectic artisanship in the bargain. Cave somehow channels the title track through Chicago's South Side via Weimar Berlin, while Teddy Thompson ponders "The Future" with exuberance and The Handsome Family informs "Famous Blue Raincoat" with elegant melodrama.Other standouts include Rufus Wainwright's nouveau Tango work-up of "Everybody Knows," Perla Batalla's gorgeous, Norteño-seasoned "Bird On a Wire" and her collaborations with Cave and Julia Christenson on "Suzanne" and "Anthem." A collection that's both a savvy primer to Cohen's catalog and impressive artistic achievement in its own right. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More hits than misses on this tribute album
Taken from several concerts that were collected into the 'I'm Your Man' documentary, the disc features many decent to great covers of classic Leonard Cohen tracks. Some of the highlights are Antony's soaring, operatic rendition of 'If It Be Your Will', Teddy Thompson's takes on 'Tonight Will Be Fine' and 'The Future', and Nick Cave's satanic crooner take on the title track. The McGarrigle sisters do a chilling 'Winter Lady', which fits into the folkier performed songs here, but it's nice to hear the artists expiriment a bit. Brett Sparks from The Handsome Family handles 'Famous Blue Raincoat' well, while going flat a few times, still adds his unique touch that he does to his own excellent music. I know Rufus Wainwright has many fans, but I found his voice to be a nasally drone and rather irritating, yet his 'Chelsea Hotel No. 2' cover far outshines his other submission.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Way to Start....
Leonard Cohen may well be one of the most celebrated songwriters we have these days, but he sure isn't one of the most prolific. Since 1990, he's released only three albums of new material, so it is only natural (and fitting) that his fans hang on every word. Words are Cohen's currency, but within his relatively small catalog, he tends to be tightfisted, making every syllable count - sort of an `inverse-Dylan, if you will. He's an acquired taste, so a lot of potential fans miss out on him. He has also attracted a significant following among the folk artist cognoscenti, and there have already been a few albums and collaborations dedicated to Cohen's work, but none have been quite as fulfilling as "Leonard Cohen -I'm Your Man." The CD features excerpts from a film of the same name, which itself was a spin-off of a Hal Willner project entitled "Came So Far for Beauty: An Evening of Leonard Cohen Songs" (you may remember Willner as the compiler of other `tribute' projects containing songs for Disney animation, Charles Mingus, and Thelonius Monk, among others).
2-0 out of 5 stars Skip This One

Editorial Review

The movie is a 1970s take on 1950s musicals, providing all the kitsch anyone could hope for. It's John Travolta as Danny Zuko as Olivia Newton-John's pompadoured main squeeze, and the kids go crazy. Fresh from his astronomical success with Travolta in Read more

Best movie soundtrack ever!!! the movie was a unforgettable, john travolta and olivia newton-john were remarkable. Long live Sandy and Danny!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack
Most movie soundtracks are full of songs that aren't that good. Grease on the other hand is full of songs by a steller cast. Each one is a glimpse either into the era that is the birth of rock and roll or into the viscuous life of the American teenager.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This is an excellent CD! I couldn't help but listen to it over and over and OVER! The sound quality is wonderful and it sounds like it came straight from the movie itself! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Little Boy and I love it!
My 3 YO son, who wouldn't sit through the whole movie, still loves everthing CARS. He knows and plays with all the characters, enjoys the video game, and LOVES the CARS the music soundtrack. He dances to the songs or has me play it while he eats his lunch or dinner. It's fun to watch him enjoy this album so much, especially when his second favorite is a toddler tunes CD that sings ABCs and 123s.
5-0 out of 5 stars Out for a Drive.
small towns, and Route 66.Like most Pixar pictures, the music from CARS captured on the soundtrack is a delightful musical representation of what happens in the film; an audio figment embodying the film's spirit.Unlike previous Pixar soundtracks, about half of the music on the soundtrack are songs sung by various artists, with the rest of the music being parts of the score. The songs on this album range from rocking country to classic oldies to a lonely, longing folk medly.I especially like the following tunes:

Unless you're a die-hard country music fan, you'll need to watch the movie first to fully appreciate this fun album. However, if you've seen the movie as often as my family has, the soundtrack becomes part of your daily life.

Editorial Review

Though fans shouldn't mistake this various-artists soundtrack for the next Toby Keith album, the music for Keith's star-turn film (also featuring Kelly Preston, Burt Reynolds, and Willie Nelson) builds from reflective balladry to unbridled, triumphant rock. It may be hard to separate the thematic sequencing from the movie it accompanies, but the soundtrack itself tells a story. It begins with Keith's melancholy, violin-drenched duet with Lindsey Haun on the title track; progresses through the spiritual uplift of a revival of "Uncloudy Day" that finds Willie Nelson and BeBe Winans joining Keith, as well as Sonya Isaacs's testament to faith on "The Battlefield" (with harmonies by Vince Gill); and culminates in the rambunctious "Big Bull Rider," the bluesy boogie of "Zig Zag Stop," and the full-throttle rock 'n' roll of the closing "Jacky Don Tucker (Play by the Rules, Miss All the Fun)." Matraca Berg, Fred Eaglesmith, and Keith's running buddy Scotty Emerick are among the others contributing tracks. While Keith sings on only 7 of the 13 cuts, there's a unifying vision throughout. 5-0 out of 5 stars He just keeps getting better
Broken Bridges is an absolutely wonderful CD.Not only does Toby sound wonderful, he shows his talent as a writer as well as his knack for gathering songs that fit the mood of the movie. It is a CD that everyone should enjoy because there is something for everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal!
I have one word for this soundtrack: MERCY!!! This soundtrack is so phenomenal. I love all of the songs and all of the artists showcased, but I'd like to mention a few of the artists that truly stood out to me. Miss Lindsey Haun is probably one of the most talented singers I've heard since Carrie Underwood won American Idol. I am looking forward to Lindsey's debut album. Then there is Scotty Emerick. I always enjoy listening to him sing. Matraca Berg and Sonja Isaacs deliver powerful performances on their tracks. And, last but not least, Toby! I just can't say enough about how impressed I was by his performances on the soundtrack. It is with this soundtrack that Toby shows why he's had such a long and successful career in music. His voice is so versatile and completely amazing! (And, so is his songwriting abililty.) I especially loved his part in the song "Uncloudy Day". He sang it so exceptionally well that I cannot listen to it enough!
4-0 out of 5 stars a great cd
I love the Toby songs and I love the other ones too. Putting this cd on is like listening to some great radio station. I am glad this introduced me to Lindsey Haun and Fred Eaglesmith. Can't wait for the movie, I can picture it already! ... Read more

Wonderful music from the movie. The songs are soft and romantic.Someting special for a quiet evening at home or while in the car driving in traffic to keep you calm.I loved it.

1-0 out of 5 stars More Missing Songs
In addition to the missing songs noted by other reviewers below, how do you run commercials featuring "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane and yet not include the song in the movie and soundtrack? That song really gives the commercial a good feel and tells a great story itself that could easily be related to the story the movie is conveying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Album to Remember the Film
ALL the best songs from the film are on this album PLUS the complete score by Rachel Portman know for stunning scores on others films such as CHOCOLATE'. How can you go wrong with Paul McCartney, Carole King and Nick Drake? Plus the amazing opening title song by The Clientelle!

5-0 out of 5 stars Monty Python's Spamalot

So , go get your money for this cd & get it fast. You will not go home unhappy with hearing Monty Python's Spamalot . Always look on the bright side of life :)
5-0 out of 5 stars Could you think of a better soundtrack that could define Monty Python any better?
I recently purchased "Monty Python's SpamAlot" and that was money well spent. The lyrics are hilarious and couldn't define the humor of Monty Python any better. It captures that greatness of the 1970s movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" and adds new laughs.Sara Ramariez has an amazing voice and (if you didn't know) I truly understand why she won the Tony in 2005 for her portrayal as The Lady of the Lake.If you are a Musical Theatre Junkie, like myself, then I highly suggest that you order this soundtrack.

5-0 out of 5 stars Way too funny!!
I purchased this CD after seeing Spamalot because the songs from the show are clever, witty and, well, just plain funny. Listening to the CD at work or in the car just sends me into a great mood as I remember the show and how funny and entertaining it was.Anyone who has seen Spamalot will know what I mean and will want that same recollection over and over as they listen to the tracks. If you loved the show this CD is a must. ... The soundtrack sounded refreshing and unique. Many of the tracks left a chilling impression on me, especially Passacagl ia, Kobal's Last Gleaming, and The Shape of Things to Come.

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed Seeing The Play Twice
I saw the stage production at Hollywood's famous Pantages Theater some years ago, and was quite impressed. I then purchased the CD, which has been in my CD player many times. But I somehow feel the original Movie soundtrack was a bit more superior. Especially the powerful film opening of 'Circle of Life.' I just feel the strong African male vocals delivered much more impact. And not to sound sexist, but Rafiki was also better portrayed as a male, than the female actresses seen in the stage productions. But still an extremely enjoyable listening experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flawless Material
The Lion King will undoubtedly bring you oodles of entertainment. After recently seeing The Lion King National Tour I just had to have this item. From the legendary opening Circle of Life to the astounded ending, you will experience constant harmony. The land of Africa is a remarkable place, and now you can experience it in your very own home. Buy it now! You simply can't go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I Have yet to see this play but,the music is absolutley beautiful. it's more than just feel good musical it has a message that can been heared through the music itself. i personally don't even listen to the orgnial songs from the movie soundtrack anymore, because many of the other songs are so spritual amd moveing. songs like; They Lives In You, He Lives In You (reprise, my FAVORUITE), The Cricle Of Life, Soudowland(My Other Fav) and Endless Night. All the Music on this soundtrack are REALLY GOOD. It's a good mixture of fun, and spritual music and does an amazing job of telling the story. The vocals, the music just evrthing is spotless. i can't say enough about this play, it's a classic
