Editorial Review

Alongside Ghost, another romantic comedy drama, Pretty Woman dominated the box office of 1990. The movie revitalised Richard Gere's career, and made a superstar of Julia Roberts, launching her on a string of hugely successful romantic comedies including My Best Friend's Wedding (1997), Notting Hill (1999), and, reuniting her with Gere and Pretty Woman director, Garry Marshall, The Runaway Bride (1999). Inevitably the movie's theme song is Roy Orbison's "Oh Pretty Woman", sounding fresh as ever. And if that is a typically male view of feminine attractions, Natalie Cole tells the other side of the story with the unrepentant "Wild Women Do". David Bowie provides an update of one of his greatest hits, with "Fame 90" and Robert Palmer describes "Life In Detail". The remainder of the album is a snapshot of up-and-coming acts at the beginning of the 90s, with Go West's massive hit, "King Of Wishful Thinking" and Roxette's chart smash "It Must Have Been Love" setting the agenda for slick, well produced power-pop. As nostalgia for the time just before dance took over the charts, or simply as a highly polished souvenir of one of the most popular movies ever made, Pretty Woman requires, as Peter Cetera appropriately adds, "No Explanation". @ TravelJunky...the easy listening track played while Julia is wearing a tie is called "Songbird" by Kenny G..Thats my favorite too!!...which is why I was abit disappointed that it wasn't included on this CD...Nevertheless, all the other songs DO make up for it..I can say this is easily one of the best classic movie soundtracks..Each song is captivating in its own way especially Go West's "King of Wishful thinking" and Roxette's "It must have been love"..Good stuff!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest Disney soundtrack, not a very special special edition though.
My father bought me the initial edition of this soundtrack when I was an 8-year-old pupil, and I was attracted by it, then I listened to it before I went to bed every night. After The Lion King's platinum edition series have been published, I bought the DVD, and also collected this special edition soundtrack. In fact, the songs in this special edition soundtrack are not very different from the ones in the initial, except the new song "The Morning Report". But I think this special edition soundtrack is really collectable to Lion King fans.

Editorial Review

Rodgers & Hammerstein wrote the music for this film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. The scene in which Andrews crests a hill with her arms spread singing the title track is one of the greatest in American film.Hearing that song forever fills the listener with that image, and remains as fresh and even chilling as it was initially. Unfortunately much of this has been co-opted by television advertisements or whatever, and so could languish because of the clichéd quality of it. Fortunately, conductor Irwin Kostal delivered a wonderful score, and the vocal delivery is as vibrant as any in the storied history of film musicals. --Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The music makes me feel that life is beautiful.
This is one of my favorite CD. The song I like most is `Prelude and the Sound of Music'. The lyric is so wonderful: My heart wants to beat like the wings of the birds that rise from the lake to the trees / My heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies from a church on a breeze / To laugh like a brook when it trips and falls over stones on its way / To sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray....It seems that the song is telling me "Although sometimes people have to be realistic, there is much beauty in life. Just treasure and cherish your life." Each time I listened to this CD, I felt pleasant or even cheerful ^_^ I once gave it to a friend as a Christmas gift. I think songs in this CD are genuine.

5-0 out of 5 stars great music
We love the music from the movie and this CD is great. My 4 year old granddaughter listens to it when ever she can.She loves it.

4-0 out of 5 stars You just wish there was more of these singing nuns singing
I have to believe the chief reason for picking up this album is to get the songs that the nuns sing in "Sister Act."The appeal here is what I think of as the Joe Piscopo approach to singing songs when he played Frank Sinatra on "Saturday Night Love."Piscopo would either take a regular Frank Sinatra hit (e.g., "Witchcraft") and turn it into a heavy metal/rock song, or he would take a popular rock song (e.g., Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run") and do it in Sinatra's classic saloon style. That is essentially what we have here when the nuns led by Sister Delores take a "traditional" church song such as "Hail Holy Queen" and do it R&B style or when they take a song like "I Will Follow Him" and turn the opening into a hymn of devotion. In case you do not read the notes, Andrea Robinson is the soloist who does the power solos in grand Marni Nixon style for Sister Mary Robert (Wendy Makkena).

Is it forgivable that the second volume of songs from Adam Sandler's mid-'80s-revival comedy begins with Kajagoogoo's famously limp "Too Shy"? Not really, but the rest of the disc does a good job of recapitulating worthy memories from the era of torn-sweatshirt necks and mulletheads--not just with new-wave novelties but with Madonna and Hall & Oates staples ("Holiday" and "You Make My Dreams," respectively) as bouncy and glossy as anything the also-present Depeche Mode ("Just Can't Get Enough") and Dead or Alive ("You Spin Me Round [Like a Record]") ever put on the radio or MTV. The Cars' "It's All I Can Do" and the J. Geils Band's "Love Stinks" encapsulate the Sandler character's romantic frustrations, while the star's own "Grow Old with Me" actually points toward a serious career as a singer/songwriter for our boy. Eek. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!Evita to the end!
Evita might possibly be one of the best movie soundtracks ever!It includes most of the wonderful songs from the Broadway run.It also features Antonio Banderas (who is actually a very good singer!), and Madonna, which takes it from and A to and A+++++++++++!Andrew Lloyd Webber makes a change from the Phantom of the Opera (which is all classical opera) to a modern pop, rock, classical, opera mix.The best songs are:
4-0 out of 5 stars One of my interesting soundtracks-four stars!
I first watched Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita when I was about eight years old. I have to confess that I was not so fascinated with the story much. Maybe because I was too young then, but when I watched it again when I was twelve or thirteen, I felt that it was a very good movie. Though I don't like it as much as The Phantom of The Opera, but Webber's composition stood captivated me in Evita. The soundtrack is the combination of Rock, Opera, and Jazz. I could say that this is the modern composition for the movie. When I watched Evita in 2004-2005, I even cried when Madonna sang the song called "You must love me". And this song had become my favourite track from the soundtrack album, and also, it has become my favourite scene from the movie. IF... you give your attention to this movie, I'm quite sure that you're going to know something more from one woman's heart. Basically, I don't like Madonna much, but in this movie, I have to admit that she was beautiful and her acting was brilliant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Only the best

Editorial Review

Aside from the ubiquitous presence of a Fatboy Slim track ("Praise You") and the Verve's yesteryear anthem of choice, "Bittersweet Symphony," the cuts on this teensploitation-influenced compilation are hardly cut-out bin oatmeal. Fans restless to sample fresh Blur material will bask in the moody glow of "Coffee & TV," while other tracks offer some lesser-known but tasty dance-floor modernists such as Faithless and Kristen Barry. This is after-hours room service of taunting rock and acerbic ballads, and it highly complements the film's at-odds crew of mean-spirited teen sirens and endangered Cinderella figures, all of whom would rather watch the beautiful people than join their rat race. 5-0 out of 5 stars soundtrack
The Cruel Intentions Soundtrack is really great but there is music without singing which is played many times in the movie and which is not on the Soundtrack cd. It`s so nice! I would like to know who the composer is and so on. If somebody kows that, please write a comment. Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack!
This is possibly one of the best soundtracks ever made. Each song is very emotional and fits it's part in the movie perfectly. To me the soundtrack is what makes the movie. The songs "Bittersweet Symphony" and "Colorblind" can bring anyone to tears. I highly recommend this soundtrack to everyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply addictive
I guess the title of Faithless' track on this album perfectly clarifies the results that a multi listening process of Cruel Intentions OST will have on its listeners: you'll literally get addicted to it. From the first impressive scene, in which Placebo's "Every you Every me" inevitably hooks you up, you'll be constantly kept into a sort of exciting musical tension, reaching one of its major point with "Colour blind", which would be able to render touching even the most trivial scene ever. But luckily in this movie there's no need to lard brilliant musical diamonds to a banal scripture, for the movie itself can be pretty shocking even without its soundtrack. It's hard to find such a good combination of both plot and music, but Cruel Intentions succeeds. Also in the so called "cathartic" moments, ruled by gazes and silences between words, in those like the one in which Annette's talking to Sebastian in the pool, where "Ordinary life" by Kristen Barry is simply the most ravishing track for the moment. And if the credit are accompanied by Skin's voice in the deflagrating "Secretly", you can be sure you'll never get a rid of Cruel Intentions shivers. ... Read more

How can a collection featuring Yma Sumac, Townes Van Zandt, Nina Simone and Moondog get only 2 stars, because of Kenny Rogers & the 1st Edition. This version of the song sucks, and the scene in the movie sucked. Edit this self indulgant dreck out of both and they rate higher.

Most everyone is familiar with the romantic piano-and-synthesizer washes of the surprise instrumental hit "Titles (Main Theme)" from this 1981 film soundtrack. What is surprising is there's a lot more going on with this score. Greek keyboardist/composer had been recording albums for years before this soundtrack catapulted him into fame. He'd even been asked to join the prog rock band Yes at one point. He was wise to pass on the offer. Here you can hear the breadth of his talent at creating dreamy moods with synthesizers and classically inspired backdrops. Some of this music, however, doesn't quite hold its own without the visuals. 1-0 out of 5 stars great theme--TERRIBLE score
People say wonderful things about this score, but in my experience they're almost always talking about the first track! We've all heard this track, and I'll be the first to agree that it is excellent, a 5 star track in my opinion. The rest of this album is atrocious. The whole thing can be summed up thus:synthesized droning.I've never seen an album that is so boring, completely lacking thematic beauty, and such a meandering waste of time as the rest of this album is.If you sincerely love the main theme and have to have it, then buy this album (or find it on a compilation disk, better yet).Otherwise, steer clear of this one--it reeks

5-0 out of 5 stars Vangelis Puts Wings On Your Heels
'Chariots of Fire' is one of the most inspiring, heartfelt films of all-time, a true cinematic masterpiece. One of the major contributing factors in bringing this film to such lofty status is the incorporation of what is probably the most beautiful and emotionally moving soundtracks ever to accompany a film.

I thought this CD was only Jan Hammer themes but find out there are more musics of other people, I would be more happy if this CD were only Jan Hammer musics.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for 80's teens,
The only problem I have with album is the mastering.I don't know how to explain it, but the CD quality is just low, with low volume compared to new CD's.

4-0 out of 5 stars awesome soundtrack---a great cross-section of dance songs...
I bought this CD, almost immediately after I saw "Dance With Me," in the theaters, back in 1998.Though, the film left me cold, the songs continued to sizzle in my memory, and resonated with my steps on the dance floor.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love It!
I didn't buy it on Amazon but I do have this CD. I absolutely love it. This is the movie / CD that got me started on Salsa. I tried learning moves from the movie. Didn't work out so well but I got a Salsa dancing instructional DVD from Salsa Crazy (which is sold on Amazon too) and am on my way!

Excellent.Close your eyes and you feel like the movie is playing!!Especially liked the Nilsson tunes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable soundtrack
Having adored the film the moment I saw it, I couldn't wait to get the soundtrack. Not only did it not disappoint, but it included all the songs that make the movie so memorable. From the sweet Cranberries hit, Dreams, that fit perfectly to the vibe of NYC's Upper West Side, to the gentle sadness of Ray Orbison's Dream, each song fits the story like a glove. With a total of 15 tracks, this soundtrack is a complete joy to listen to over and over again. My toddlers even get a kick out of the oldies, Splish Splash an Rockin' Robin. It's a soundtrack to entertain all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars My all-time favorite for years!
If I had to go spend the rest of my life on a desert island and could take one album with me, this would be it. I have listened to this soundtrack over and over for the past 6 years. I've listened to it at home, while flying to NYC, in my car, and on my iPod.

5-0 out of 5 stars JC SUPES soundtrack : the Ultimate
Originally issued in 1970 packaged as a double Lp Concept album with Deep Purple's Ian Gillan as Christ back in the days of theshort-lived Rock Opera genre -- Jesus Christ Superstar was intially held as a musical play out of compromise and fear from sensoral scrutiny by its writers Timothy Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, as in its stead they opted to issue it on a 2 disc set of vinyl platters thus - until the time when it is finally made into a musical play in London the following year.

I am not sure which is worse:the atricious sound quality of this version of the soundtrack or Ted Neely.Let me just say that I am a huge fan of JCS.Huge.If you truly enjoy the music, I'd strongly recommend purchasing the 1996 remastered version of the 1970 original album.
3-0 out of 5 stars The original soundtrack is a million times better
The emotive nature of the songs is nearly lost in the movie (which I am watching again as I type for about the 100th time), in part because there is a lot of movement to account for. In the London concept soundtrack Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Newman's acclaimed score is worth all the praise it recieved
American Beauty - a great movie with an equally great score.Directed by Sam Mendes, who went on to equally great heights with "Road to Perdition", it is mainly a comedy-drama, though begins to focus more on drama later on.Newman's score perfectly suits the surroundings. It was largely an experimental score, compared to the style of his previous works before this film. However, he delivered quite well and the soundtrack added immensely to the film. This is probably what influenced Sam Mendes to use music so respectfully in "Road to Perdition" - who knows what he would have done had he hired another composer for American Beauty, and recieved a score of lesser brilliance.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
The American Beauty Score is larger than life. Thomas Newman's masterpiece simply kills me with the heart earning everlasting impact of the sound on this score. The Plastic Bag Theme is something that makes my brain wave a million invisible white flags to it's tremendous simple melody. As corny as I might sound, I celebrate most of life's ironic moments by playing this very melody either on my PC or on my mind. American Beauty is my favourite film of all time and it wouldnt have been possible if this magical score was to be left out. The coordination with the story line and the melody is super and quite award winning. This was probably the first score I truly noticed besides Road To Perdition (Another outstanding composition) If you like this try out "The Village" by James Newton Howard. However if you want something better, keep looking. The music contained is creative and refreshes one's own existance like a blood purification process. I think I have said enough so let's just play "dead already" and enjoy our charades. [ Pardon my overdramatic self]

4-0 out of 5 stars Really good soundtrack
This is just wonderful and compelling.Well written, perfectly executed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining...but historically incorrect
A great, classic, "girl power" movie. But it's interesting to know that in reality, Mulan ended up committing suicide because the emperor wanted her to be one of his concubines.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Wonderful Soundtrack!
I bought this album several years ago, but I don't like it that time. Some days ago, I found it in my drawer and listened to it again. "It was Wonderful!" I said to myself after I finished listening.
