    Editorial Review

This soundtrack to the hit TV series starts off with a melancholy ballad by Denver's the Fray (fittingly titled "How to Save a Life"), but the well-curated CD isn't all thoughtful adult alt-rock--reflecting the series' mood changes, it offers a wide range of modern sounds. In addition to the expected acoustical numbers (in this case, from Anya Marina, KT Tunstall, and Snow Patrol's live version of "Chasing Cars"), the album reaches across genres and continents to offer the sunny-'60s-pop vibe of Jim Noir's "I Me You," Jamie Lidell's electro-jazzy "Multiply," the edgy punky-pop aggro of Metric, the rambunctious "Sexy Mistake" from the Chalets, and the winning singalong misanthropy of singer-songwriter Foy Vance's "I Hate Everyone." Ursula 1000's Alex Gimeno lightens up the proceedings with one of his trademark upbeat, hip-gyrating numbers (which seems to pay tribute to Serge Gainsbourg's "Comic Strip"), while the Moonbabies' sweet, swirling harmonies deliver the kind of perfectly crafted pop we've come to expect from the Swedes. If this compilation turns people on to these deserving acts, it will have done its job. Read more

All of your reviews I have to agree with. But there is a song that I believe isn't on the CD for Greys. I don't know the exact title for it. But it was in the episode with the bomb. It was Breath, or Just Breath. Can someone please find out the title so that I may purchase this.
3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been so much better
Overall there are some great songs on here and then there are some that had me changing the track to the next song.In my opinion, Vol 2 is not as good as Vol 1.Would have been alot better if Breathe was on here. That was the best scene in the entire 2nd season of GA.Shame on you Anna Nalick and GA for not putting that song on here!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars If you don't like this cd you're a fool
To start, I find that whenever I mention Grey's Anatomy to a co-worker or friend, they ALWAYS say, " I LOVE that show!! And the music is SOOOO GOOOOOOD!!" You can't hit the nail on the head more than that. Grey's Anatomy prides itself on good music, so to say this cd is bad, well, that's just poor taste. If you go to the Grey's Anatomy website, they go so far as to list every song they're played on every episode. If there's a song you want and you know the episode, go to the website and track it down, I promise you it will only take a few minues.
3-0 out of 5 stars Best Song Left Out
I can't believe they put together this CD and left off what I thought was the best song they used in the entire first season.Unfortunately, I do not know the title or the artist.I'm hoping someone else might be able to provide that information. All I remember is that the song was played in the very first episode (if I'm not mistaken) when Dr. Shepherd chose Melissa for the OR to operate on the teen beauty queen's aneurism.I only recall the repeated line of "put your hands in the fire".Any help?
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing.
I am a huge fan of Grey's Anatomy, and one of the best parts of the show for me is the music. So when the soundtrack came out, I was really excited, even though I was really only familiar with about two of the songs they included. The first time I listened to it, I fell in love with a few of the songs, but a few of the others took awhile for me to get used to.The songs are all very different, with a wide variety of sounds and voices that you don't hear much on the radio, and it works. It is now my very favorite cd and I listen to it more than the rest of my cd's combined. It's that good. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Show on Broadway
I saw this musical last year, and thought it was amazing!!! The music is unbelivable!!!! Idina Menzel and kristin Chenoweth are wonderful, two of the best voices I've ever heard. If you like musicals, then you HAVE to get this CD.I've almost worn it out.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Necessarily Wicked!
I was excited about getting this compact disc about Wicked, the hottest ticket on Broadway. I liked the beginning about how the witch was born green. I think the compact disc does serve a service in providing us a closer view of the musical itself. I didn't care for the story involving Glinda, the good witch, and Elfaba, the bad witch who is green. I didn't like the story itself. While I am sure that the musical is much better than just listening to it but I was uncomfortable with Elfaba's portrayal as being born green and bad while Glinda was both popular and pretty. I think I was just more sympathetic towards Elfaba because she was the outcast and I always find myself among the outcasts so I felt sorry for Elfaba. I don't find much sympathy for Glinda who has spent her entire life being both popular and gifted so of course, she doesn't change. She gets rewarded while poor Elfaba gets treated as bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Musical EVER.
I'm the kind of person that listens to showtunes all of the time. Seriously. Wicked is what made me that kind of person. The first time I had ever heard it was my first year doing choir, and ever since then, I've loved it. It's got amazing songs and two of the best musical theatre actressess to ever be on stage, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth. So if you love musicals, this is the CD to buy! ... Read more

If the 9-year-old in your life hasn't alerted you already, consider this your heads up: Not since Hilary Duff has Disney delivered the masses a tween sensation as hot as the double-life-leading Miss Hannah Montana. More important for speaker-blowing second- to seventh-graders and the parents forced to buy them CDs, though, no small-screen sensation transcends the tube more convincingly. Part party girl and part plain old good girl, Montana--a sweet-voiced, playful performer--never skimps on the pipes. Country fans will chalk that up to our rhyme-named heroine's lineage; 14-year-old Miley Cyrus, who plays Montana, is the daughter of Nashville star Billy Ray Cyrus (who duets on this disc's sentimental, twang-resistant last track). The rest of the world, though, is apt to find itself belting along based on Hannah's unsinkable hooks and frothy Ashlee-meets-Hilary vocals alone: theme song "Best of Both Worlds" bumps around off a Joan Jett-reminiscent springboard; "Who Said" rips a page from the emo diaries; and "Just Like You" ladles on harmonies sweet enough to attach a stick to. Additional tracks like Jesse McCartney's "She's No You" and B5's Earth Wind & Fire redo "Shining Star" are first-rate complements to the proceedings, but make no mistake: this dance-happy hybrid belongs to the reigning pop princess alone. 5-0 out of 5 stars Loved this CD!
This CD was so awesome! Compared to the last CD, this one has better songs and music. I also found it easy to dance to. The only thing is that It's Over and Charish the Moment weren't their (the Cheetah Girls) style. Other than that, this CD rocks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cd
I'm actually 16, I just wanted to use this instead of signing in. This cd is GREAT!!! The songs are mostly upbeat except for It's Over. It's also a great cd to workout to, especially when you memorize the dances from the movie and then do them like I did. The first cd was a little corny and had corny songs, but this cd is WAY better!

This compilation of previously released material gathers the best-known tunes sung by women in Andrew Lloyd Webber's repertoire. Do all the singers here count as divas? A surprisingly high number certainly does. A few offer both outsize personality and outsize pipes: Betty Buckley ("Memory"), Patti LuPone ("Buenos Aires"), Barbra Streisand ("As If We Never Said Goodbye"). Some don't have as much name recognition but still offer blistering readings of famous songs (Yvonne Elliman's vintage version of "I Don't Know How to Love Him," from Read more

Admit it: If you had to pick an artist to give voice to the wackadoo thinkings of a monkey beloved by most of the American populace over age 3, you could do a lot worse than Jack Johnson. Black Eyed Peas? Too hyper. Death Cab for Cutie? Too ironic. They Might Be Giants? Too eggheaded. Johnson, though the object of much rightful jealousy--here, after all, is a guy who only stumbled into music and vaulted himself up the charts after a successful career as a pro surfer--turns out to have the goods to do H.A. Rey, Curious George's creator, proud. Fans familiar with Johnson's earlier discs will recognize a certain laconic sprawl and easy fascination in his songs that suits the theme of perpetual puzzlement perfectly (here, let's not forget, is a guy who racked up fans with songs called "Bubble Toes" and "Banana Pancakes"). That the music takes a childish turn barely registers--songs like opener "Upside Down" are classic Johnson, all wonderment and groove, and the collaborations with friends Ben Harper, G. Love, and Matt Costa warm up, wink, and scamper off before packing on the weight of excess meaning. "We're Going to Be Friends," track seven, seals the deal--when you can make the White Stripes sound compatible with the Man with the Yellow Hat, you know you've got a multi-generational winner. 3-0 out of 5 stars Simple Sing Along
Theme song, UPSIDE DOWN, is a catchy and simple toe tapping sing along, but the rest of the cd sounds much like this theme song....same rhythm, same sound. However, be certain that kids will enjoy it, and it fits the movie perfectly. The included lyric booklet makes it all the more fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pellington misses the mark
Uhh... it's a children's album Pellington in case you hadn't noticed, which is surprising, being that you are obviously of a far superior intellect than anyone else on the planet. Get off your pretentious high horse at least occasionally. Some of your other reviews are good, but leave Jack alone. Geez..

5-0 out of 5 stars Music for Everyone.
Sometimes movie soundtracks are good to listen to, but only if you've seen the movie.Other times there are movie soundtracks that are much better than the movie they come from. The best movie soundtracks not only make the films they are a part of a better movie, but they can also stand alone upon themselves.Such is the case with SING-A-LONGS & LULLABIES FOR THE FILM CURIOUS GEORGE.Most of the music on this album was written and is performed by the great and magnificent Jack Johnson.Johnson has an unique way of writing music that is catchy and upbeat, full of hope and promise, but seeped in meaningful lyrics.I could listen to Jack Johnson play music all day long and not grow tired of it.G. Love, Matt Costa, and Ben Harper each contribute on one song on this album, but the rest is all Jack. Some of my favorites are:

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Beautiful SoundtrackFrom Zach Braff
It's the highest compliment when you buy a soundtrack before you see the first frame of the film. Zach Braff had great success with Garden State because the songs were great and stood by themselves. He also specializes in introducing new bands that people should hear.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I absolutely love this CD, I can't stop listening to it. I recently picked up the Garden State soundtrack and love it just as much. Zach Braff has introduced me to a whole new group of amazing artists.

5-0 out of 5 stars Musical High
Zach Braff weaves a world of extraordinary perfection in his selections for The Last Kiss. The album breaks into your consciousness with Snow Patrol's honest addiction revealed in "Chocolate." Joshua Radin's Star Mile perfectly balances the initial energy with "Pain Killer" as the album takes off again. Coldplay is a familiar comfort and presents a slow sweep of dream pop that leaves us ready to sink into a musical high with "Ride."

1-0 out of 5 stars Just Won't Play the Audio !!!!
Be prepared for disappointment if you buy this enhanced CD, and your PC is somehow excluded from playing the audio tracks.I have a 2 year old Sony Vaio desktop with all the bells and whistles, and a 3 ghz processor.I've played every audio and video cd and dvd without a problem at all. When I put this cd in I got the graphic screen and played the 2 videos fine. But there's no link and no way for me to access the audio tracks, whether through Windows Media Player, or Windows Explorer.Somehow the people who made this enhanced CD didn't make sure it was compatible with all PC's, even if you have a high end, fairly new machine.I'll be returning the CD ASAP.

5-0 out of 5 stars Humbled
The acting was emotional and impressive, the singing was amazing and the movie was chilling and enjoyable. In fact, I can't stop watching it - it's like a train wreck everytime it comes on. My parents dragged me when I was a young child to a Johnny Cash/June Carter concert. As much as I hated the fact they couldn't get me a sitter, or leave me at someones house - I am truly touched now at the backstory to this concert I didn't want to go to, but enjoyed nonetheless. I wish I could go back in time to enjoy it knowing what I know now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD of a Cassic Show
I had trepidations about this revival. After hearing this CD, I want to get down to B'way ASAP to see it.This recording is wonderful. The few middling spots ("Sing" being the chief offender) are completely outweighed by the most complete recording of the piece, in proper order finally, and the exuberant cast performing a classic score.Charlotte D'Amboise my not have Donna MacKechnie's pipes, but her stirring rendition of "The Music and the Mirror" is a showstopper.Jason Tam's few moments of "Oh God I need this job..." are eloquent and subtle (wish we heard more from him on this disc). But the entire cast is euphoric in their eagerness to please and present character.Easily the best new Broadway recording since "Sweeney Todd" (and that's saying something).Go, go go.And buy, buy, buy. It's "One Singular Sensation."

3-0 out of 5 stars deja vu ???
I was really excited about this revival... and still want to go see it when I get back to the U.S., but in all honesty, this revival album sounds like -- errrrrrr, the original one, only at different tempos.
3-0 out of 5 stars What Who Did For Love?
I was really pumped for this revival...ACL is in my blood, but I can honestly say, I'm not sure why anymore. The guys, are amazing, they all are cast well, and handle their roles well (My roommate walked in on "I Can Do That" and thought I was listening to the OBC), but the girls are seriously lacking.I felt that Deidre Goodwin and Mara Davi were the two weakest (Anyone else notice Mara go flat during "At the Ballet"?), and Jessica Lee Goldyn as Val is way too ditzy, she may be a blonde, but she was smart enough to figure out she needed to get some body work done.Even more disapointing vocally was Charlotte D'Amboise, who really IS Cassie (Just look at her carrer), but sounds more like Katherine Hepburn during "Music and the Mirror." (Maybe we need a revival of "Coco")Then, when you get to he meat of it all, the amount on the recording is barely better than the OBC, there is more extension in the Montage, and more for Zach to have dialogue in, but that is MINIMAL compared to the lack of the song "And..." or the fact that "What I Did For Love" sounds more like a stereotypical sanitized 11'o Clock number ala "For Good."And, big suprise, Paul's monologue was left off (It may not be a song, but to reduce the role to just "Who Am I Anyway?" seems like a slight crime) The Orchestrations make some moments, like the opening sound way to polished to be a rehearsal piano. This was a mediocre recording, nothing to get really fired up over, but still above the level of only being useful as a coaster. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars " LEt'S EaT CaKE"
I can not wait to see this film. Looking at the trailers I was more than curious why songs from New Order and The Cure are being used to promotea period piece. It sparked my interest since the images and the music seem to work so well in a 30 second preview on the small screen. My question has been answered, it happens that, that is the score for the film. The soundtrack is great for a rainy day or even a sunny day outside it evokes all kinds of emotion. I was plesantly surprised and understand why this music was incorporated in the film. Marie Antoniette was a teenage queen, rebellious and high spirited torn between love and monarch and in no way different than a regular teenage girl today. The music in this soundtrack can so well have been her music of that day like her story as real today ,making it enjoyable for todays eyes and ears. Note the second disc includes a dash of the classical, just sit back kick off your shoes drink some wine and snuggle.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Bit "Gloomy Gus" for My Taste
The trailer's use of New Order and Gang of Four inspired me to check out the soundtrack.I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, and hope/expect that the images will add fun and color to these dark-leaning songs. I have a lot of the disc one songs already: Bow Wow Wow and New Order always get me moving (although "Ceremony" is one of NO's gloomiest),Gang of Four always gets me doing the herky-jerky (interesting to see how their song fits into the movie -- GOF is strongly anti-consumption), and The Strokes do lush scruffy privilege well.On the whole, the soundtrack seems too heavy... a rich texture, but not UPbeat enough for my taste. The concept, however, is inspiring! And I prefer to light a candle rather than curse the darkness. So here's the songs I just burned to my "Marie II" cd, to play along with the Marie dvd when it comes out.(Feel free to do so yourself!):
5-0 out of 5 stars what a great soundtrack!
sofia coppola has put together an amazing soundtrack for her new movie.i saw the movie in the netherlands this past summer and it is one of my all time favorites!the soundtrack creates a youthful, haunting combination of 80s hits and classical/atmospheric pieces.i created a mix from the two double discs that i could play at parties, leaving out some of the slower songs...but thats not to say these songs arent wonderful.some of them are just those ones that pull at your heart, especially after seeing the movie, because most of the songs are so well placed in it.who would of thought that Hong Kong Garden by Siouxsie and the Banshees would fit in so well at an 18th century aristocrats ball?i guess sophia coppola.see the movie, buy the album...they are both an absolute wonder to the senses. ... THE BEST SHOW ON BROADWAY I HAVE SEEN IN YEARS.FROM BEGINNING TO END!LISTENING TO THE CD BRINGS BACK THAT WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE AT THE THEATER.I WAS ONLY ONE WHEN SHERRY CAME OUT SO, I OF COURSE DIDNOT GROW UP WITH THIS MUSIC BUT, LOVE IT!. IF YOU CAN'T SEE THE BROADWAY SHOW BUY THE CD (ALSO GET THE BEST OF FRANKIE VALLI AND THE FOUR SEASONS) OH WHAT A NIGHT!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Those Jersey Boys!
I never thought that Jersey Boys would be such a hit on Broadway enough to win Tony Award for Best Musical. Although Broadway has not really brought out anything spectacular but everybody who has seen it live as loved it. If you can't spend money on tickets to see the show, you might as well by the compact disc and just imagine the live performance. The Four Seasons were one of the biggest music groups of the last century. Who would have thought that these four Jersey boys from Belleville, New Jersey also hometown to actor Joe Pesci would become such a huge hit. The show and the compact disc show how it began for them with all the trials and tribulations. If you can't see the show regardless of cost or travel, why not buy the compact disc? I have bought two for other people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Zach Braff REALLY knows what rocks.
The soundtrack CD to Zach Braff's "Garden State" pulls an impressive double coup: simultaneously it's one of the best movie soundtrack CDs of recent years and also one of the best rock music compilations. There isn't a single dud song on this disc, and several of them--such as "In the Waiting Line" (Zero 7), "I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You" (Colin Hay), "Blue Eyes" (Cary Brothers), "One of These Things First" (Nick Drake), "Such Great Heights" (Iron and Wine), and "Let Go" (Frou Frou) have become favorites of mine. Braff also does music listeners everywhere a vital service by reviving "The Only Living Boy in New York," probably the least known of the truly great Simon & Garfunkel songs. The soundtrack to "Garden State" is not only great listening on its own, but it succeeds spectacularly in doing what every soundtrack CD ought to do: it makes me want to see the movie again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest sound track ever
So, my girlfriend and I saw this movie some time ago and fell in love instantly. Half way through the movie we knew that we had to buy this sound track. I mean seriously, Ive never heard one better. If this is your kind of music, you will love almost every song on this CD. There is only 1 we seem to agree not to like, but that should in no way stop you from getting all the other great tracks from this album. Now when we watch the movie, every song that comes on we have to jump up and say "that's my favorite" from the opening scene to the end credits. Listening to this sound track will truely make this movie one of your favorites, if it wasnt already. A+ in my book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fine collection!
Selected by the actor/director and writer himself - Zach Bach, he did an impressive job of hand picking songs that embodied the emotional fine points of the movie. Not only do these tracks magnificently harmonize the movie, the songs complement each other seamlessly, and when put together, it created something fantastic as if the tracks should have never been apart to begin with.

    Editorial Review

Based on the Maysles brothers' cult 1975 documentary of the same name, this musical is an endearing—-and sometimes genuinely heartwrenching—-oddity propelled by Christine Ebersole's exceptional, for-the-history-books performance. The movie followed the kooky duo of Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, Little Edie Beale, as they lived with their 52 cats in a derelict East Hampton mansion. The show's first act, set in 1941, is a prologue of sorts, while the second act, set in 1973, follows the movie closely. Ebersole plays Edith in Act I (which she concludes in dazzling manner with "Will You?") and Little Edie in Act II (when Mary Louise Wilson comes in to play the mother). And while Wilson is superb, this is Ebersole's show. Technically, she is flawless—-just listen to the way she changes her voice between the acts—-but she also makes Little Edie a poignant eccentric, a lost soul stuck in a world of deluded, decaying grandeur. It all peaks in the poignant "Around the World," the show's best song and an Ebersole tour de force. Note that this recording documents the Off-Broadway production; the show transferred to Broadway in the fall of 2006 with a slightly altered first act. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Score
Grey Gardens has hit written all over it and will definitely be one of the musicals to beat come awards time. It has one of the best scores to hit Broadway in many a season. The subject matter seems daunting to say the least for a musical, but they've pulled it off beautifully. Wonderful performances by Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson. Great songs that work within the story that you can sing along to. They havent skimped on the packaging, either, for this recording (made before it moves to Broadway). Essential for any theater lover. Quirky, funny and a little haunting. A class act all the way!

5-0 out of 5 stars AN EXCITING NEW MUSICAL!
As I get older, I am intrigued by what material some composers/librettists choose to musicalize. Yes, we're seeing a ton of recent books and films take the musical route, and some of them have worked: HAIRSPRAY was terrific, and I have heard great advance word on LEGALLY BLONDE. More often than not, it doesn't work, however. Anyone remember LESTAT?
5-0 out of 5 stars A real treasure
This is quite wonderful. There are a couple of clunkers - or maybe they'll just have to grow on me - but the score is smart, tuneful and totally entertaining. The range of material here is amazing - from very bouncy upbeat fun like The Five-Fifteen to Around the World, arguably the score's best.A real standout is The Revolutionary Costume for Today.A brilliantly realized piece of theater. And while all the performers shine, the real reason to buy this CD is Christine Ebersole!WOW.She gives a staggeringly brilliant performance on Disc.I can just imagine how powerful she is onstage. She moves to the top of my list. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A fitting soundtrack for a film that highlights John's politics in the 1970's
This CD offers a great deal of incredible music by John Lennon during 1969 and the early 1970's when he fought our government in order for him and Yoko to live in the United States. The quality of the music is excellent and after you listen to this CD you want to run to watch the film!

5-0 out of 5 stars Strange, twisted, and funny
The second I heard the song, "Crows," I knew I had to own this album.I know nothing of Lemony Snicket books, but I've a been a Magnetic Fields fan for awhile. So, after very awkwardly browsing the childrens' section at the bookstore, I was able to find a copy of this really great album.I was very happily surprised to find that this CD is more in line with Merritt's great early nineties albums (like Holiday, Wasps' Nests, and The New Despair) rather than i or (shudder) Showtunes. This is a great mix of synths and traditional instruments (if you consider an electric sitar "traditional").The lyrics are very depressing/weird/funny/moving depending on the song, though some are all four.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Gothic Archies' strongest outing yet...
...and one of Stephin Merritt's most memorable, and by far the funniest. On this album he is doing what he does best: being a glum old curmudgeon-popster with tongue wedged squarely in cheek. No knowledge of the Lemony Snicket books is needed. There are a number of direct references in several of the songs, but the lyrics stand on their own quite well, particular in numbers such as Freakshow, Shipwrecked, How Do You Slow This Thing Down?, and A Million Mushrooms.Expect an expertly crafted mixture of glum yet surprisingly catchy arrangements coupled with more of Merritt's hilariously morose lyrics.Highly recommended! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Match!
In short, this is my new favorite CD to listen to while painting, driving, writing and working on any thing at all. I am writing my next novel as I listen to this work. The music puts me in a good mood to be sure. I oft cannot help but recall scenes from the movie while I listen to this soundtrack and so I can relive the movie even when I am too busy to get a warm cup of something wonderful and put my feet up to watch it for a couple of hours. I adored the movie, even though it differed from my expectations: better in some ways, a little lacking in others (though it gets better and better with every viewing) and it has not replaced but only added to my other 5 hour BBC P&P movie miniseries. More Jane Austen is always good. The only thing lacking in this soundtrack are one or two missing songs that I loved from the movie. But then again, and after all, I cannot truly complain, for there is so much ear candy in this modern work of classic genius. This is truly a must have.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love the soundtrack, disliked the movie
I very much enjoy the music to this movie. My favorite track is "The Secret Life of Daydreams." This music is peaceful and resting. I did not like the movie except for the gorgeous scenery and a very few moments of good acting. However, knowing the orignial story I can imagine it to the music or even just enjoy it for what it is, great music. I highly recommend this cd. My personal recommendation is that if you have the software to take out the beautiful scenery in the movie, then make your own movie set to the soundtrack backround. This way you can enjoy only what you want of the movie, accompanied by this wonderful music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great story with great music.
