    Editorial Review

A collection of well-known pop tunes, this record documents those ubiquitous tracks that have been played into the ground at nearly every sports facility in the country. Most, like "Whoomp! There It Is" and "Hip Hop Hooray," are undeniably catchy, and other tracks were downright splendid when they first appeared on the scene. Some even credit "Pump Up the Volume" with being a breakthrough for the electronic music scene of the late '80s and early '90s. Still, bringing musical innovation to light is not what the makers of this recording had in mind. It's all about the trashy glitz, fleeting glories, and mindless greed of late-20-century American sports. Revel in its dubious charms, and risk having your brains turn to mush while a permanent grin takes over your face. Read more

This is not music. Have some respect. If you like this you are probably an idiot jock who thinks the middle east is somewhere near Kansas. Please America, wake up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Whooooooooooomp! Here's the review!
Tell-Tale Bonanza's back again!!I'm a total jock if you already didn't know, my resume speaks for itself. This cd is not only great for sporting events, but works well at any social gathering. There's just something that is beautiful about seeing Lupus Fury do the tootsie roll.Let me tell you a little bit about Lupus Fury. You may be wondering how he got such a nick-name, well let me break it down for you... Lupus- is latin for "Wolf"and we all know that he's hairy like a wolf, and stinks like the Cumberland river.Fury- anger, violence, rage.that sums him up right there, the man has 8 restraining orders, and is a registered sex offender (we still laugh about that to this day) So now we know Lupus, a hairy wolf like angered man, don't get near him during a full moon either, he might hump your leg, but he gets more action than teen wolf (thanks to me).Our parties are just a big spectacle, we really do put on a show. When the song "You're Unbelievable oh!!!" comes on,Big Frank will put on a gymnastic routine that will leave you wondering why he wasn't on the olympic squad in 96 (steroids).Chubby Lou is in charge of running the party (there's never a shortage of cheap booze and hot pockets) and doubles as the bouncer, you don't wanna catch one of his famous DDT's, little-known fact, Chubby Lou used to be an amature wrestler (they said he was too fat) and had a stint as Barry Horrowitz tag team partner in 88.Cheese Grits doesn't really have any talent, we just thought he had a cool name so we let him in the clique, but he can juggle, so we get him tanked up and make him juggle by the end of the cd we circle around him and sing along to gary glitters "duh nuh nuh nuh nuh HEY!!! duh nuh nuh nuh!!!!" and so on, he has a look of terror on his face, but it's totally worth it. by that time we settle in, and there's about a 10-3 girl to guy ratio, some of us score real big, whoever is lucky enough to make it to my room, gets to personally here "Gonna make you sweat" by C & C Music Factory. Now that you see the power that this cd holds, I hope you would go and buy it (or steal it from your P.E. teacher, like I did).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD!
Once again, Hidden Beach Records has put together another excellent collection music. This fusion of hip hop and jazz is a great way to be introduced to this particular genre of music.I recommend Unwrapped 4 to all jazz lovers, new and old.

4-0 out of 5 stars Escape to Hidden Beach
This CD stays in my car...Makes my drive to where ever like an "Escape to Hidden Beach", these are not ordinary remakes from Hip Hop to Smooth Jazz, these songs evolve into a life of their own, artfully combining the Fresh "Funky Jazz and Smooth Hip Hop", especially the two 50 Cent songs and Lean Back, my only complaint was the extra "All Fall Down", song.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
When Vol.1 came out, I was blown away.Great for listening in the car or ballroom dancing.I was rather disappointed in Vol.'s 2 & 3.I just picked up Vol. 4 and I can't stop playing it.I agree with another reviewer that the vocals aren't as good.Where is Sylveena Johnson on "All Falls Down?"This other chick is weak. But all in all, I am digging the CD.It's especially good if you like 50 or Busta's music but can do without all the foul language.

5-0 out of 5 stars The only CD you'll ever need
This CD gets the party started and the party don't stop til you turn it off! It's (almost) more fun than Erich's mom putting on chaps after a few shots of tequila.
5-0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack to the glory days of rap and hip-hop!
I had been notorious at high school for scathing hostility towards current-day hip hop and rap of the late 1990s to the present but I never denied how much I loved the earlier years of this formerly wonderful and fun genre of music.
4-0 out of 5 stars Bust it.
Much like the "Millennium Dance Party" disc, but not dance, this is simply full of great hip-hop, from what I would call the fun days of rap. I think anybody could come up with another disc of tracks that belong here, but still good stuff. I honestly dig it all, but favorites would be from Grandmaster Flash, Tone Loc, Young MC, and PM Dawn. Plus the biggest hits from Snoop Doggy Dogg and Dr. Dre for some g-funk. I also went through a decent House Of Pain phase, so glad that's here. In short, if you're anywhere near 30 and need just one disc of old rap, this collection is the bomb! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars OLD SCHOOL VOL. 1
THIS CD KEEPS YOU MOVIVING AND BRINGS YOU BACK IN THE DAY

5-0 out of 5 stars The First of the Series
When I purchased this one I was happy to find that there were more to follow. I am not that old but this music takes you back to the times when music was music. I love these songs and I love listening to them over and over again. I bought this CD because of Double Dutch Bus and Square Bizz, but I like all the tracks now. A great buy and I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars When Music Was Music Back in the Day
Listening to these songs reminds me of the days when music was enjoyable and fun to listen and dance to.Most of the music on the charts detail lewd sex and violence. Some of the artists even have no bones about being arrested and having criminal records. It's a shame we don't shun some of the conduct that is portrayed in their lyrics. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars "Sip the Juice, I Got Enough to Go Around"
As soon as the first song starts to play, you already know this soundtrack is a hit. With rap artists like Naughty by Nature, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. & Rakim, Too Short, Salt N Peppa, EPMD, and Cypress Hill, and with New Jack Swing artists like Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall, who can go wrong with this soundtrack? There's not really one bad song that you can name on here. Every artist comes correct. It's not too often that a soundtrack this good will be released.
5-0 out of 5 stars ridin' on a dangerous dick
I have searched high and low for the CD to replace my worn out cassette copy of JUICE... I honestly don't know the artist preforming, doesn't mean I can't promote it.. Do know I have turned another onto it and his favorite song was to a ex of mine cause he had me now and I was ridin' dangerously :) I definately do like "is it good to you", and "so you wanna be a gangsta".I'm a 47 year old "caucasion" grandmother, and my co-workers say I act younger than them. So for all the flappers and the young rappers, age is a number and state of mind and colour is an obstruction.Music doesn't care... Lean back and do the rock away... Then enjoy the ride..:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best soundtrack eva
This soundtrack is as good as the movie. The standout tracks are Know the Ledge, Uptown Anthem, and its goin down. This is a classic in everyway. A mix of rap/r&b, and east/west. You cantgo wrong with this. My only gripe is a track or two from the movie is'nt on here. Kill a man by Cypress Hill. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent Jam
This is a decent combination of a some songs you can't help but get jammed up from ("Wild Thing" and "Whoomp") and some dreadful songs that should never have been made (you hearing this George Clinton?). If you want something to work out or clean house too, this passes the grade. But there are better compilations out there ie jock jams.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST S&C EVER
this is by far the best S&C i've ever heard. i love the S&C version of "Void in My Life",the deep bass literaly moved my speakers 3 feet from the wall.

5-0 out of 5 stars i was suprised
before this album i had heard paul wall's S&C cd which basically was really sloppy in work. I could i actually say it was anoying to hear the people's champ in the S&C cd. But as soon as i saw it was OG Ron C(and not Micheal 500 watts). I had faith this would be a dope cd to listen to. It raised my standards in screwed in chopped music back to when Dj screw was alive. I actually enjoyed The sounds of revenge (S&C) in opposed to that i usually enjoy the regular cd better. OG Ron C does a great job. Other Dj should learn from him.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best compilation they ever made
Standout tracks: RYDE OR DIE, DOWN BOTTOM(weird collabo that worked), WHAT YA WANT(when Eve was dope), JIGGA MY N---A, DOPE MONEY, BUGOUT, KISS OF DEATH, THE HOOD, DO THAT S--T and SOME X S--T. Filler: Platinum plus(Lame commercial track), Im a Ruff Ryder(Parle cant sing!)and Pina colada is only filler because of the lackluster verses delivered by sheek. Bottom Line: This was the best compilation that came out of the Ruff Ryder camp. This is when they were hungry and were waiting to show the world that they had heat. If you have this compilation just stick with that because it all goes down hill from here like the Violator compilation.

3-0 out of 5 stars First Double R Comp (3.5 stars)
Just about everyone has covered the main points of this album. This is the first installment of Ruff Ryder's compilation, possibly one of the biggest commercial comp albums released in 1999. I remember back when I was 13 years old, I was DYING to get a copy of this album, because everyone had it. In my young mind, I thought it was a classic, but as time grew on me it's just became an above average album.

It's from the era after early 80's breakdance rap, and before the early 90's gangsta rap. When you got "Jump", "It's Tricky", and "It Takes Two" on one disc, you know it's good. Plus "Humpty Dance", "O.P.P.", and "Me Myself and I". This would be the bomb if it included "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss", "I got a Man", and "Bust a Move", but no. This also comes in a 2-cd set, but the best of that is all here. Another great collection is "Millennium Hip-Hop Party". It's just as dope.

4-0 out of 5 stars One Disc Is Better Than Two
Why buy a 2-disc compilation of hip-hop hits when the best ones are one a 1-disc set? This one-disc "streamlined" version has the best of the 2 disc set on it. The only song I relly don't care for is "Summertime"(I've heard it WAY TOO MANY TIMES). Great songs on this disc include "The Humpty Dance"(Digital Underground), "Push It"(Salt-N-Papa), and "Iesha"(Another Bad Creation). So skip the filler of the 2-disc set and purchase the best of the bunch. This is a must for any old-school hip-hop party. I absolutly adore it!:) ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars They were drunk and using Drugs when they recorded this....
The only thing you can say about today's music is that it's disguisting, gross, and made by recording artists who drop out of school and seem to think that a life as a rap music artists is so cool, until they get shot.Every copy of this CD should be burned.

1-0 out of 5 stars P Did dy. Honestly. What the **** is wrong with this guy and the radio pop rap of today?
There used to be a time when rap was not synonymous with the likes of Hillary Duff. No longer is that true, if you call this rap. Puff wasn't that good to begin with, and I never owned any of his cds but I knew of him...anyway, by the time I heard he changed his name to PDiddy, I about laughed until I pissed myself.
4-0 out of 5 stars yeah
this cd is pretty good, but theres only two songs that i would consider classic material

    5-0 out of 5 stars Super Rare Street Funk ! ! !
Groups like this may at one time have been a dime a dozen (JBs/Archie Bell/Jr. Walker/Fatback Band type copy funk acts with slick rhythm guitar, punchy horns, funky fatback drums and very big afros I'm sure) but now they ain't a dime a dozen - - and odds are you've never heard most the stuff on this album.I suspect a lot of these groups may have had a hit or two on their (very) local scenes, then faded into obscurity... before doing so, collectively they did make magic... The KICKER on the album definitey has to be the LAST POETS-ish ultra jivey "jump rope" type rhyme "But What About You" thang... And while some of the recordings might sound a bit lo-fi on the surface, I have to say, this compilation is well worth it... Its raw STREET FUNK like you've never heard... As an example take THE KASHMERE STAGE BAND or ERNIE AND THE TOP NOTES... I'm sure they offered no threat to Archie Bell OR JBs - - but then again, you gotta admit, who did?The stuff is kicking nonetheless...And there are plenty of other tunes that are ultra, slick, Jazzy, jivey and funky... almost something you'd expect to hear in one of those clubs that would pop up in those old Rudy Ray Moore films.
4-0 out of 5 stars Yeah, Yeah Funky
No question that this is a dope funk outing from a certified crate-digger.
5-0 out of 5 stars Makes you wanna do the Dap Walk!
This is one of those wonderful collections of Little-known soul that the Brits at Kent records usually do a good job of compiling, but this time some Americans knew what time it was and dug up some regional and unknown goodies in their own back yards.

4-0 out of 5 stars A challenge for hip-hop heads...??
Does anyone know what the tune playing in A-Wax's car is when they drive into the underground car-park to find a car to steal?? I tried hard to make out some lyrics and search it on the web but I've had no luck so far.....any clues anybody???

4-0 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack to a great movie
If you're reading this, you probably know what a great movie "Menace II Society" is. This soundtrack fits the movie so well, it's also great. You need not see the movie to appreciate it, I was digging the soundtrack long before I actually ever saw the movie. The soundtrack is a great profile of 1993 hip hop and R&B, and it contains music from artists of both coasts. There's a lot of star power here, with A-list names like DJ Quik, Boogie Down Productions, and MC Eiht, and as with any soundtrack, there are some you've never heard of. All the music is good though, it's got a variety of music, all of which I like, and I recommend the "Menace II Society" soundtrack to fans of music from the time period.
4-0 out of 5 stars Does anyone know

1-0 out of 5 stars Contained None of The Film's Score
This soundtrack contained only a compilation of rap songs that were in the film. Absolutely none of its composed music is contained. I'd like a CD that contained the sardonically humorous screeches, mysterious violins, and the climatic operas played in the film's conclusion.
4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good
Not ever hearing of this one of my old girlfriends had the CD and I listened to it one day about 4 years ago and I was surprised and took the CD for myself. It features some of the bigger names in rap (west, east and down south) at the time but a good amount of unknowns (and they still are) who make some good songs as well.It does have 1 or 2 skippable songs and 2 or 3 that are ok, but he other 6 or 7 are really good songs. The production really fits the title, as it has that horror theme to it.Recommended fora rap fans.
