5-0 out of 5 stars Prime live Aretha
Thanks to Rhino for putting out this double CD culled from the too complete, OP and very expensive box set sold only through Rhino's Handmade label. Besides prime era Aretha live in front of a loving audience and a surprise duet with Ray Charles, she's got the great King Curtis behind her (the Handmade set included his complete performances as opening act too, available in part separately). In spite of the vastly superior talent of the backup on this, I always preferred the much maligned "Aretha in Paris" before, because she was so extraordinary (in part due to nervous energy) in front of the off-key backup band on that recording. Her live version of Willie Nelson's "Night Life" is still the best single recording on either set. But now complete in great sound, if you're buying only one live Aretha, this would be the one. She and Etta James are the queens of soul, and there is no one else who can approach their shared throne, to date. Here's hoping the complete "Paris", if there is any more (sets then were shorter) is issued too; maybe with digital technology the off notes behind her on that could even be straightened out. And there's still a mountain of Columbia Aretha to mine, particularly the undoctored studio recordings tricked up to be the fake live LP "Yeah!", which is almost as good as this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hey Nineteen!!!! You Paying Attention??
    "Hey Nineteen, that's `Retha Franklin.
5-0 out of 5 stars Where's the original Dr. Feelgood?
I know this is going to sound fickle - but I TRULY fell in love with the version of "Dr. Feelgood" that appeared on the original LP & CD versions of this release. The buzz (that couldn't be removed), the woman in the audience yelling "SAING IT!!!", Aretha's soulful sermon at the end - in the last 5 years, I have that whole perfomance committed to memory - and I'm disappointed it's not here on this "reissue".

4-0 out of 5 stars "Mr. Crapdock on the kickoff......"
When I initially heard this the moment it came out I loved it having seen Cream in '67&'68 and following Sir Eric through his many changes since 1966.This is the best you can get mixing the country/blues styles of Delaney & Bonnie with the rock/blues/soul of Clapton. And Bonnie can really belt it out as she does on many of this CD's numbers.I love that the backing band are the Dominoes who hadn't officially formed yet.I wish that this could be remastered and re-released as the entire show and maybe even a DVD because I have a copy of the Denmark show which is fantastic!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Holy Relic of the greatest era of Rock
So many people have discovered this album by accident, usually attracted by 'with Eric Clapton' under the title. Some great raunch and R&B on this album, it's a blast to listen to. A little sloppy at times, but that's what live shows were like before everyone copped an attitude and shows became choreographed and epic fireworks displays.
5-0 out of 5 stars Why don't more people know these guys ?
D&B were the preiminent white R&B singers. They counted as fans Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Joe Cocker, Dave Mason, etc. etc.

There is always cause for concern when a promising new artist follows up a solid debut with a live album rehashing all the same material. After seeing Erykah Badu steal the "Smokin Grooves Tour" summer of 1996, however, it only makes sense that her record company decided to release Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ignore reviewer luke, this is LIVE!!!!!!!
Just wanted to point-out to those of you out there who are hesitant to purchase this because of the god-awful review by (luke).
5-0 out of 5 stars Fans of good music will love this CD, regardless of their musical preferences.
I've never been a big hip hop/R&B fan, but this CD is amazing. Some favorites of mine include "Searching," "Apple Tree" and "Other Side of the Game."One song that stands out is "On and On," which segues into a discussion about cyphers and Egypt, only to flow into "Apple Tree.""Tyrone" appears on the CD twice, once live and once as studio track. The live track is great, but the studio version is out of place on a live album.I understand the studio version was intended to be the single to promote the album, but it doesn't flow well with the live material.I didn't like the finale "Next Lifetime" either. It's a great song, but Miss Badu stretches it out for 15 minutes to finish the show in a dramatic gesture, which by that point is unnecessary. All in all it's a great CD, and it encouraged me to check out other Erykah Badu music, and I haven't been disappointed. This is an artist who will stand the test of time and isn't going anywhere soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars that voice !
Get this for onlytwo reasons. The live vocals of Ms Badu are as soulful as any to come in the last twenty years ( and her band ain't bad either - tight and full of da funk). The bonus is the inclusion of the extended studio version of Tyrone, perhaps the best kiss off I've ever heard. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best live jazz performances ever.
This is one of the best jazz performances I've ever heard. It's especially amazing given the fact that the musicians had never played together or rehearsed before performing live. This is a must have CD for jazz lovers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Swiss Movement
Les McCann, Eddie Harris, Donald Dean, Benny Bailey, and Leroy Vinegar were superb at Montreaux and get an A+. "Compared to What" just tore it up and most likely set the mood and tempo for the whole festival. I would have hated to go on after these ALLSTARS performed. The music on this disc is timeless. People will be enjoying it long, long after all of them are gone.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Shut up, sit down, and listen."
June 21, 1969. Summer Solstice. The longest day of the year. Many consider this to be the greatest live jazz performance ever to be captured on tape. A conglomeration of musicians was assembled for the final night of the Montreux festival. These cats said hello to each other, sat down, and proceeded to wail. The mood here is electric. This was my introduction to what Jazz can be like. Thank God Almighty for Improv Jazz! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars God is obviously working
These reviews are crazy. People either loved the CD or hated it. THATS GREAT. When the word of God is put out there for people to hear it will never return empty. Lauryn never asks anyone to agree with her, all she says is open your eyes and listen. If you like it praise God, if you hate it Praise God. As long as you acknowledge that you are not turning her down but God's word. God doesnt just speak through Gospel. GO AHEAD LAURYN WITH YOUR BAD SELF. the Cd is truly amamzing!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Overlooked Masterpiece
Anyone still waiting for Lauryn Hill's follow up missed it. This was it. This is reality TV right here. Only in retrospect do I now see what she was trying to do here. This album should be revisited by critics and the general public. It's a masterpiece and represents the future of music. This is not Lauryn Hill doing the "MTV Unplugged thing" - doing all her past hits acoustically and covering some other songs by friends (ie. Nirvana Unplugged.) This is Lauryn Hill performing her entire new album live, one time only, sometimes stopping and starting over in the middle of a track and making personal, reflective comments between songs. Artists need to look to this album seriously and consider that what was being done here was much deeper than it appears on the surface.

This is the live album to outdo all other live albums. I am a head banging, rock and roller, guitar nut and this is still the best live album ever!
5-0 out of 5 stars BEST LIVE RECORD EVER
I agree with Mr. Sullivan about who cares about some specific sounds at a live performance,... its raw, sweety, aggressive, compasionate, ITS ROCK AND ROLL!! ....today's new soul artist should buy this CD, take notes, and learn from it,.. (r&b singers are too cheezy now...) Listening to this CD, you are going back when the male soul singers were real men,.. no fakes like today's singers who just want to show off high vocal ranges like a bad imitator of Eddy Valen on the guitar. This Live show does not have any pyrotechnics,...and thats why I love it,.. Sam Cooke is by far my favorite soul singer... (I dont have nothing else to say,... so BUY IT NOW!)

THE CLARITY ON THIS CD IS GREAT FROM THE "INTRO TO THE LET-GO"!SAM IS IN TOTAL COMMAND IN EACH AND EVERY TRACK.THE GROOVES ON THIS CD ARE UNMISTAKEABLY SAM COOKE. ON "DON'T FIGHT THE FEELING" THE GROOVE WAS SO INFECTIOUS I FOUND MYSELF SINGING IT IN MY OFFICE WHILE USING MY MOUSE AS A MICROPHONE! LET ME WARN YOU, IF YOU'RE EXPECTING THE SILKY SMOOTHE SINATRA-ESQUE COOKE THAT WE'RE ALL ACCUSTOMED TO FROM THE 1957 HIT, "YOU SEND ME"... FORGET IT! THIS IS SAM AT HIS RAWEST AND GRITTIEST. 4-0 out of 5 stars Worthy of Dylan
The problem with these 2 disc multi-artist concerts is that they're often bloated with lesser performers and lesser performances. Here, not so, KK says at the beginning of the concert that "backstage we have assembled one of the greatest group of perfoming artists ever" or something like that, and it's no exaggeration.George Harrison, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Eddie Vedder, Stevie Wonder and on and on...

5-0 out of 5 stars inspiration
"Experience" is the perfect name for this cd. It truly was an experience. I have been writing poetry for a few years now, but most people thought that it was too "real". So I kind of backed away from it. But after hearing "Thickness" I changed my mind. I was inspired to once again write about real situations. "He loves me" has to be my favorite track. Her voice is absolutely amazing. When I'm listening to it I feel like I've been taken to another place. I sing also and I thought I was pretty good until I heard this song. She shut me up. Her voice is powerful and erotic. It's hard to find a vocal role model with the singers that we have today. But I have found one in Jill. I could go on and on, but I won't. I'll just say that this cd has inspired me to be true to myself and to my music.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love Jill
This CD is awesome. Jill Scott is a true performer. Even listening to her CD in the car made me feel like I was there. This live CD is a good one. Can't wait to experience it for myself.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A treat
This is a remastered version of Aretha Franklin's breakthrough 1972 gospel album AMAZING GRACE. This was recorded in front of a live audience in 1972, culled from two live performances with the Southern California Community Choir, Ken Lupper, and the Rev. James Cleveland at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles. This two disc set features the original 14 tracks, and a bonus 15, making it 29 tracks in total. It is great to hear the music unedited! This is a must have for Aretha's big fans!

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Leave Before The Miracle Happens
Laura Nyro was stunning in every respect - singer, composer, performer. Nobody hung it all out to dry quite like Laura Nyro. Eli and the Thirteenth Confession is a landmark album, as is New York Tendaberry. This effort stands apart, a nostalgic tribute to the pop classics Nyro grew up loving.
5-0 out of 5 stars Blast from the Past
If I hadn't watched 'A Home at the End of the World' I would have hardly remembered LaBelle or Nyo. As it happened, it brought back floods of memories fro mmy youth and out came also the old Carol King songs to be listened to again.
5-0 out of 5 stars I remember buying this new...on vinyl ...back in the day.
I remember buying this as a new release...on vinyl and I still have it. This might not be everyone's cup of tea but if you are a Nyro fan, a Doo Wop fan, an R&B fan, a Blue-eyed soul fan, you will find something here to to love. (However, if you are a Labelle fan you will probably be greatly disapointed as they play the role of guest star back up vocalists, albeit with panache, before they became superstars.)

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
I bought this for my dad. He likes it. Donny Hathaway is soo amazing. The sound quality is good too.

5-0 out of 5 stars All Right, This Is It
After a few smooth and tantalizing introductory bars to set the stage, Hathaway lets the sound decay, and you can hear a female voice way back in the audience say with absolute certainty, "All right, this is it."She is so absolutely correct. The baseline gets it moving and bam, you are into 12:18 of "The Ghetto," as thoroughly satisfying a soul/funk jam as you will ever find anywhere, complete with enthusiastic audience participation. If you can sit still through this, you might want to try breathing against a mirror and checking for condensation to make sure you're still alive.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Baddest!!!
He's a Genius. He can do it all. This singer, songwriter, arranger, composer, conductor, producer, instrumentalist, innovator, etc. can do 1 strong lick and not mess up. I mean he has a remarkable, remarkable, well-known voice. It's sad that he left us too quick [in 1979], 'cuz he was getting into the Mainstream section a bit like somewhat from Wes Montgomery, Selena, Grover Washington, Aaliyah, all'a them. We know we're feelin his version of the Marvin Gaye classic "What's Going On" (I wish I coulda played that). First and foremost, this album doesn't have a horn section or strings or a live vocal group IMHO, it's just him and his band doing a fine-done job. It's glad they're kickin it!, you know I mean.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my FAVORITE albums!
I love this CD....soulful, personal, and the storytelling is intriguing.Bill Withers has always been one of the most underrated artists ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best live album I've ever heard...
I'm surprised that this isn't mentioned in the same breath as B.B. King's "Live At The Regal" and James Brown's "Live At The Appolo" as one of the best live albums ever. The energy of this performance is amazing and the crowd is so into the music that the whole disc is just ELECTRIC. The live version of "Use Me" is SO good, with the whole crowd clapping on the off beat. Best of all, after the band jams on the song for seven minutes, you can hear the shouts of "One more time!!" from what sounds like the back row of Carnegie Hall. Bill Withers asks the crowd, "One more time?" and the place goes nuts, at which point the band launches back into the song without missing a beat. This is just one of the moments captured here that can only be described as magical. The appreciative round of applause that Withers gets from the crowd after delivering an amazing vocal on "Hope She'll Be Happier" is also noteworthy. Bill Withers really possessed a natural talent for songwriting; his lyrics are simple and direct but say so much. The middle verse of "World Keeps Going Around" where he describes the dating chain of the narrator with a few different women is amazing. Songs like "Grandma's Hands" and "I Can't Write Left Handed" are incredible lyrically also. This was a great performance where everything just clicked: great songs, great band, and an enthusiastic crowd. This should be essential listening for everyone. The finale of Harlem/Cold Baloney is so awesome. Bill Withers gets the whole place to chant "shake em on down" as he leaves the stage. What an ending! This is really an unsung masterpiece.

3-0 out of 5 stars Best Live CD Ever?
It's very possible. The band is tight. The crowd is really into the performance. The artist gets very personal with background info on the songs. You haven't heard Bill Withers till you listen to this CD. Another reviewer wondered why there was no DVD of this. I second that emotion.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Original 'Kingpin' of Southern Soul
Six months after this recording was made, `King' Curtis Ousley would be stabbed to death while standing in front of his New York City apartment building. This tragic violence brought a premature close to a career that had recently projected to new heights, and seemed poised to go just about anywhere. Active since the early fifties, King Curtis moved easily from jazz to soul to rock and roll. To put things in perspective, you should know that when Sam Cooke sings "Play that one called `Soul Twist'" in "Having a Party," he's referring to a King Curtis tune. The man was ubiquitous, but usually stayed behind the scenes, serving as a bandleader, producer or back-up musician for an endless number of performers, including the Coasters, the Isley Brothers, Bobby Darin and John Lennon. In 1971, he was acting as bandleader for Aretha Franklin (see my review for "Aretha Franklin Live at the Fillmore West") and racking up a few hits of his own. "King Curtis Live at the Fillmore West" culls the highlights from his own sets at this venue, and it also marks a high point of his recording career.

Luther was among the best crooners ever. This Cd is a must have for all his fans.I've seen him live and he was so spectacular. He and his backup shine on this Cd.All I can tell you is "Get It!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Luther Vandross
I have collected all of Luther's recordings.I stopped listening to all of them after purchasing this recording. This CD has all the best songs and it reveals what a wonderful entertainer Luther Vandross was.I pitty those that were not able to catch him live at least once.WHERE IS THE DVD???

5-0 out of 5 stars Argueably the greatest R&B vocalist of all time
Without a doubt, Luther was one of the gratest singers of all time. Very rarely does a singer live CD sound as good as the studio version but Luther amazes us with live renedtions of all the hits. In particular check out If Only For One Night,Love Won't Let Me Wait, I'd Rather and A House Is Not A Home. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Ever At Great Value!!
One the best things about this album is that Fred was selling it at $12.50 when double albums were going for at least eighteen dollars or maybe more (I bought it in a name brand record store on Independence Drive in Charlotte, and I don't remember the name) in those days.Fred not only blessed my soul with this great collection of songs, but he blessed my pockets, too. This album started great ('Let The Praise Begin' was an absolute smash I still hope I can sing somewhere in a church) and, although there are some dead spots and some sketchy production of songs that had the potential to be huge (sometimes the way Fred presents some songs seem to lack the oomph the song needs to truly be great, although the lyrics are normally superlative and, at the least, fitting), the studio album leaves you with the confidence that you have bought a quality album. My personal favorites are the last two on the first disc, 'You Called Me Friend' and 'Lord, You Are My Song.'I started to like both of these after a while, though, because nine of the first eleven songs on this disc tend to monopolize your attention. The best of these songs are the aforementioned 'Let The Praise Begin,' 'Your Steps Are Ordered,' 'All Thing Are Working,' 'Please Don't Pass Me By,' 'Jesus Is All,' 'I Will Bless His Holy Name,' and 'He's God.'I would always listen to 'Jesus Is All' and 'You Were Much Closer,' but they always seemed to be not my cup of tea. That being said, only 'No Way, No Way [You Won't Lose],' 'Your Love,' and 'I Wanna Be Yours' weren't immediately enjoyable.

Wow! What a gift Fred Hammond and RFC are to us! These were my first cd's and I absolutely fell in love with the music listening to a sampling at the music store. Fred and RFC are my very favorite gospel musicians and singers!!!

This is still a gospel super work. I have been listening to this CD for years, and I recently started listening to it again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gone too soon...
This CD is a close second to Marvin Gaye's "Live At The London Palladium" as being the best live recording out there.I can't believe there was a time when I didn't really care for live music but this CD is just outstanding. Donny doesn't hit a single sour note, the band is awesome and the mixing is perfect. You can't even tell that these songs were pulled from different performances. Don't even bother buying both the "Live" and "In Performance" CD's, just do yourself a favor and get this one. This CD has selections from both CDs along with previous unreleased material. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. It is so sad that he is gone but he left some really beautiful music behind, music that will never die.

5-0 out of 5 stars WELCOME, AMERICAN IDOL VIEWERS
YES, this is the singer that contestant Elliott mentioned in such love and respect on the show. YES, you can get the best introduction to Donny by buying this live album and the Greatest Hits compilation that is the other best-selling Donny Hathaway album.

5-0 out of 5 stars the FAMOUS FLAMES....WHO WERE THEY ?
James Brown and the Famous Flames are PURE DYNAMITE and this is the GREATEST LIVE ALBUM EVER RECORDED...But I wonder ...just how many people reviewing this CD really KNOW just WHO The FAMOUS FLAMES really were? If you ,like so many other music writers and Rock historians think that the FLAMES were the name of JAMES BROWN'S BAND ...you are INCORRECT !!! Please go back and read or re- read James' autobiography...then go on the internet and obtain the movies SKI PARTY and the TAMI SHOW.Then read the liner notes on the LIVE AT THE APOLLO CD...and ALL of the POLYDOR CD re-issues of James and the Flames early albums... such as the "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE" album, the "THINK" album and the TRY ME album...They all say the SAME THING..."THE FAMOUS FLAMES ARE NOT THE BACKUP BAND ...THEY ARE THE VOCAL GROUP" !!! ANYONE who says otherwise DOESNT KNOW THE HISTORY OF JAMES BROWN!! JAMES himself even explained this on the DAVID LETTERMAN SHOW...but many so- called rock music historians still dont get the MESSAGE !! THE FAMOUS FLAMES were: BOBBY BYRD-the group's founder, and the man who actually discovered James Brown,BOBBY BENNETT,and the late LLOYD STALLWORTH..who replaced departing original member JOHNNY TERRY...JAMES BROWNS BAND was called ...believe it or not... THE JAMES BROWN BAND !! This means that stellar players such as FRED WESLEY, MACEO PARKER,ALFRED "PEE WEE " ELLIS AND OTHERS were BAND MEMBERS...NOT FAMOUS FLAMES !!THE FAMOUS FLAMES AND THE BAND WERE TWO SEPARATE ENTITES !!the ROLLING STONE HISTORY OF ROCK AND ROLL was one of the few printed publications that actually GOT IT RIGHT! In showing a picture of the JB troupe on stage back in the sixties..it clearly stated that JAMES was..."with the Famous Flames AND the James Brown Band!!Why the confusion? Part of the reason centered around a very strange practice of KING RECORDS (JAMES'record label back then) of showing ONLY THE LEAD SINGER on many of their vocal groups' classic fifties and sixties albums. They did this- not only with JAMES BROWN AND THE FLAMES'albums...but with HANK BALLARD AND THE MIDNIGHTERS'albums as well. People only know what they see...And what they saw was only JAMES BROWN'S AND HANK BALLARD'S faces on the album covers...AND NOT THEIR RESPECTIVE GROUPS.The result ? THE FLAMES' faces never graced a single album cover.Another problem is the unfortunate practice on the part of music writers over the last 15 years or so of calling the great r&b vocal groups "bands" because their rock- oriented counterparts were. (example..artists such as THE MIRACLES,THE TEMPTATIONS,AND THE FOUR TOPS ARE NOT "BANDS",BUT RATHER VOCAL GROUPS OR SINGING GROUPS...While artists such as THE BEATLES , THE ROLLING STONES,AND THE BEACH BOYS are bands..They actually play instruments on stage). These two factors have combined to cause a confusion toward THE FAMOUS FLAMES in the eyes of the music buying public that has persisted to this day... and has cost them a possible spot in the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME along with JAMES,which they so richly deserve.(ANYONE WHO HAS SEEN THE MOTION PICTURE "THE TAMI SHOW" will have to admit-JAMES BROWN AND THE FAMOUS FLAMES STOLE THE SHOW - BLOWING AWAY THE STONES , THE SUPREMES , AND EVERYONE ELSE}.the FLAMES also appeared with James in the Frankie Avalon movie "SKI PARTY" in a non- singing, non-speaking role, and on the ED SULLIVAN SHOW twice, dressed differently than the band, and unfortunately uncredited .THE FAMOUS FLAMES are one of the great UNSUNG GROUPS of rock and R&B history. In 1964,James stopped recording with the FLAMES in the studio,But they still continued to perform with him on stage for another 4-5 years...and their name still appeared on the records,so most people thought the name applied to the band. After the FLAMES disbanded , BOBBY BYRD remained with James, and that's his voice you hear echoing James on hits such as "SEX MACHINE","SOUL POWER", "MAKE IT FUNKY",AND "GET ON UP, GET INTO IT,GET INVOLVED" . So,the next time you listen to "live at the apollo", or early hits such as PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE , TRY ME,THINK, BEWILDERED,OH BABY DONT YOU WEEP,or other great songs... remember..the guys you hear SINGING ...NOT PLAYING INSTRUMENTS in the background...are indeed the mighty FAMOUS FLAMES..BOBBY BYRD, BOBBY BENNETT,JOHNNY TERRY, AND LLOYD STALLWORTH. read JAMES'AUTOBIOGRAPHY...IT'S ALL THERE..THE FAMOUS FLAMES ARE A SINGING GROUP.. NOT A BAND!!
4-0 out of 5 stars Comes close to capturing Brown's onstage energy
Let me just start out by saying this isn't the greatest live album. It is influential, and proved that people would pay money to own a live recording, which is the main reason why it's often considored the best. However, there are many subsequent live recordings that are much better than this. However, it's still pretty damn good, and is a fun listen that warrents repeated plays. James Brown's stage show was legendary for his gyrations and refusal to stand still, and you can picture what a good night was like for him with the help of this. It is certainly better than any of his studio albums. The songs themselves are performed greatly, both due to Brown's incredible soul voice and the magnificent back-up band themselves. Worth a purchase, due to it's importance in American popular music.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've GOT to envy me!!
Can you imagine hearing this music again for the first time? That's what I did about 6 months ago when I listened to this CD for the very first time, even though I've been a music junkie for years! This has been one of those CDs that has simply grown on me since that first time that I listened to it. There is such a raw, emotional sense of urgency to this CD, which alone makes it an essential purchase, and the songs themselves are great, too. I've known of this CD for years, and I'm kicking myself for taking so long to buy it -- better late than never, I suppose. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been better
I purchased the DVD of this concert 2-yrs,. before I purchased the CD and was hoping to have the FULL concert on the CD. The CD represents only 50% of the concert that was on the DVD. Many great concert monments and songs were left off the CD. The band "jam" during Smooth Operator is one example. For those of us who appreciate the musicians talent, writing and production were left short.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sadeon another dimension
Definitely get this CD.Unlike her other CDs this one makes listening to Sade tons better. The live feeling gives you goose bumps. It approximates the live concert electricity as opposed to studio-produced music that's too perfect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sultry, Hot, & Cookin'! Sade Rocks!Sade Rules!
Superb. I usually avoid live albums, but after hearing 'Somebody Already Broke My Heart' on the car satellite radio, I knew I had to order this album right away.Sade's dreamy voice floating over solid jazz backups and the group's synergy with the audience create a completely electrifying listening experience. Extended, updated versions of 'No Ordinary Love' and 'Is It A Crime' plus the haunting 'Cherish The Day' make this comeback album a total winner. You're going to want to own the concert DVD as well, which contains additional tracks, plus the vision of Sade herself dancing to 'Paradise.'CD or DVD, both experiences are worth owning and sharing with friends.Oh, and yes: listen for the thunderstorm just before the band launches into 'Sweetest Taboo' --- like the music, a 'quiet storm.' ... 5-0 out of 5 stars YES I DO BELIEVE, I DO BELIEVE!
I had lost all hope in this generation of music. RAP CRAP had consumed all young people giving them no hope for distingushing TRUE TALENT! But then.... along comes Isley and Bacharach. Is it commercial? I HOPE SO! Why is there a stigma to something that sould sell and give the listners more music sweetness to their ears and soul then has happened for years? Ron Isley has emerged as a talent to behold. His sometimes Al Green sounds heals the most savage beasts of music wantoness. I only wonder what can be done for a follow-up to this masterpiece?

Its BETTER live. These girls are absolutely Amazing.I have seen them in concert a few times and it's always a very impressive and soulful event.I can't even put into words how GRATEFUL I am that these two women... these two styles... these two prospectives... have come together.I am a poet, a writer, and this music is truly food for the soul. The words are so meaningful, in depth, never shallow!Always meeting expectation. In fact, its hard for them NOT to meet expectations because what they are producing is so real, it's just Life... feelings... Emotions... they are performing Spoken Word over emotional melodies... They bring a much needed breath of fresh air to the industry.I am most definitely a supporter of Floetry and I can only hope and pray these women continue to bring quality sounds to my, our, ears.If you're not a fan of floetry... or critique them the way some of these reviews do (And I respect the fact that we all have our opinion) but if you are leaning toward the negative in regard to these two women and their art, then you are looking way to deep, and I feel sorry that you have to try that hard to understand them, and still fail to... If this is you, then the meaning of what they are doing, the concept and value of what they are bringing to their audience is totally passing you by...

Floetry is awesome. I have a friend who plays the DVD every night b4 bed and I had never even heard this live before. Marsha has vocals out of this world. She flat out sang, never wavered with her strength, stamina, condition of her voice. She was hitting all types of notes. Honestly, I'm not used to Brits being talented. You should see the mockery of true talent with bogus musicians on "X Factor". That's why I know there was only space for Floetry to shine in the U.S. Natalie was flowing and there was a point and time where they tag teamed like ad- libbed word for note. That was tight. Only problem was sometimes Marsha would over-kill with runs and not settle down. Plus, I have a problem if you can only play a CD or DVD from Track 6 and on.... ... Read more
