5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST of Sondheim
The best Sondheim collection available. the live performances add greatly to the album. All the performances are fresh and fun, or heartfelt and lovely. Added bonus is the performance of unused songs from several shows. The wholething is wonderful. Only wish it had been done more recently to include the shows of the past 30 yrs. Could be quite an evening. The Carnegie Hall tribute album is glossier and more recent, but I like this better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marry Me a Little
This is an old favorite that I already had on LP, but decided to finally upgrade to CD. Obviously, I like it or I wouldn't have bothered.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Sondheim Concerts ever
I bought this set used on vinyl when I was 17. Then again on cassette when I was 25. I'm now about to buy it on cd. Why? Hands down it is the best concert album of his works. Nothing gimimicky, just a great evening of song, most with the original performers recreating their moments. Also, there are more than a handful of cut songs and obscure lyrics. For you Sondheim buffs: the original lyrics to "We're Gonna Be All Right" which got sanitized during the tryout becuase Dorothy Rodgers thought the lyrics were too racy. And a previous reviewer complained that there were No performance of Night Music songs on the disc, Here's why. The Cast Album had just been recorded by Columbia and they held the rights to any of the original cast recording of the songs. During "Liasons" and "Send in the Clowns" the Engineers from Warner Brothers (the original Label) had to shut off the mics. A shame...written accounts of the evening state that Glynis Johns had the house in tears with Send in the Clowns. Still and all, a worthwhile album. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This CD won Grammy Awards in 1995 for Album of the Year and Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance. Recorded live with Tony Bennett's long-standing accompanists Ralph Sharon on piano, Doug Richeson on bass, and Clayton Cameron on drums, the set includes more than 20 songs, many of them standards Bennett has sung for years, such as "Old Devil Moon," "I Wanna Be Around," "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," "All of You," and "Body and Soul." Guest artists k.d. lang and Elvis Costello appear on, respectively, "Moonglow" and "They Can't Take That Away from Me." It's a joyful romp for Frank Sinatra's favorite singer. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars tony keeps it real
I guess as you get older, tastes change.I bought this cd years back when I saw Tony on Mtv, and now I can't stop listening to it.What I like is how real and how genuine the songs are, as well as how real Mr. Cool aka Tony Bennett is himself. This guy rocks.Lots of personality and one heck of a voice, you won't find a more natural and talented performer than TB.This disc is full of classics so you can't go wrong.Nice mix of tempo in terms of upbeat songs and ballads, plus the cool guests stop in to put their spin on the material.Top notch musicians as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars From Ole Jingles -To A True Rider-to-the-Stars
I absoulutely love this 2 Nights Live 2-CD set. I don't care what music critics have said about him. I don't care what anyone has said about him (inluding my husband!). The guy is a genius. One picks up every now and then on TV, radio, - "commercials" written decades ago for goodness sake that we all know by heart-written and arranged by Barry Manilow when he first started in the "business." And of course he moved on...way beyond. He is not just a stellar studio musician (please buy the previous "Barry Manilow Live" with this track, entitled "Studio Musician" - one sometimes needs to be reminded of the incredibly great studio musicians (like Barry once was); those guys and gals, whom we will never know even insofar as their names). In addition, Barry is a brilliant arranger, composer and perhaps most endearing of all a spectacular entertainer. So at ease with the audience-full of laughter, humility, and loyalty to his fans (as evidenced by this 2 CD set). You simply won't believe how intimate and funny he is throughout these 2 mights LIVE while delivering some of the greatest music ever. One of the happiest moments for me was seeing his "come back" via this tour - Barry really did prevail over his music being played in elevators and dentist's offices. Oh - and as a Jersey girl, we were raised not to care what anyone thinks. We think for ourselves like Barry Manilow-as a downtown, hometown NYC guy.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm a Fanilow!!
I saw Barry Manilow in Las Vegas in August.I was not a big fan but was happy to see him.Seconds into the concert, I was hooked!!I am madly in love with this CD.The first CD he sounds a bit horse to me, but by the 6th song, he is his fantastic self. The second CD is plain FABULOUS! If you love Barry, don't miss this set!

5-0 out of 5 stars "Outstanding Concert by Manilow"
I saw Barry Manilow's concert at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on October 9, 2004.This was the first time I had seen Barry Manilow perform live, although I have been an ardent fan of Barry Manilow since 1972(his early years). The following week after seeing the Manilow Concert I decided to purchase the audio cd entitled, "Barry Manilow, Two Nights Live."When the cd arrived in the mail, I immediately played the

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Album Ive Heard For A While
Certainly the greatest album I've heard in a long time, Paul McCartney's 'Back in the World' is a rock and roll party all the way through, featuring some of the best (mainly) McCartney penned Beatles songs mixed with some of his solo career highlights. His voice is still amazingly strong for his age, so much so that I prefer many of the songs on this album to their studio versions, and I really couldn't pay a higher compliment to this album than that. I was even more surprised when I saw Paul live at Earls Court, London the other week, in that I thought his voice may perhaps be a let down because this album features his best live recordings, but I was proved wrong as it sounded almost identical to how it does on this album.5-0 out of 5 stars Another Excellent CD from Sir Paul
Another perfect CD from Sir Paul. Back in the World, released in just about everywhere in the world except for the United States. I decided to import it and I was not disapointed. This CD is a little different from the American version, Back in the US. Most deffinetly worth the money. Everyone should go pick up this CD now.

This altered version of the Back in the US 2CD is updated for European release to coincide with the European tour. The CD adds Calico Skies (performed only in Osaka, Japan), Michelle, She's Leaving Home, and Let 'Em In, all performed during the shows on the Back in the US leg of tour, as well as Japan and Mexico City.Hey Jude is now from a performance in Mexico City, of three shows in November, 2002.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars You don't know what I'm gonna do yet.Just wait a minute.
Elvis Presley performed two concerts at Madison Square Garden on June 10, 1972; a matinee and an evening show. The evening show was rush released two weeks later, but the entire matinee didn't come out until 25 years later. But three songs from the matinee had been released earlier; "Reconsider Baby" and "I'll Remember You" appeared on Elvis: A Legendary Performer Volume 4 and "I Can't Stop Loving You" was on Welcome to My World. The two Madison Square Garden concerts have virtually the same set lists, with "Until It's Time For You to Go", "Blue Suede Shoes", "Reconsider Baby" and "I"ll Remember You" being exclusive to the matinee, and "The Impossible Dream" being unique to the evening show.Elvis gives similar performances at both shows, trying pretty hard on the newer songs, and rushing through his old hits without much feeling. If I had to pick one of the concerts, I would give the slight edge to the matinee, due to the inclusion of the rarely played live "Reconsider Baby".But of course, true Elvis fans will want to have both concerts.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME CONCERT!!!
This has got to be one the best concerts done by anyone!!. Dont take my word for it - listen for yourself!!.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This is one of the best commercially released live albums by Elvis. The sound quality is excellent, Elvis' performance is energetic and vital, the band is crack and the song selection is quite good. Anyone with the slightest interest in live recordings of Elvis from the early 70s would do very well to pick this up, it's much better than the other live record from Elvis' 1972 stint in New York, 'As Recorded at Madison Square Garden'. The main flaw, like all Elvis live records it seems, is that the 50s tunes are rushed through and not paid much attention (I can't blame him though, he must have been quit tired of them by this point). Best songs: Funny How Time Slips Away, For The Good Times, You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling. ... Read more

International pop star and European parliamentarian Nana Mouskouri is a living monument to the notion of "middle of the road." 5-0 out of 5 stars A truly divine voice.
Nana Mouskouri sings as no one in the entire history of the world has ever sung. Her ability to interpret such a wide variety of songs, from such a variety of styles and in so many languages is unparalled. Her voice will make you think that you have died and gone to heaven. That is how beautiful it is. This concert, performed at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, is truly divine.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent inspirational piece for this particular moment
This is one of my Nana's favorites. I strongly recommend it for those who are willing to taste the real peace in a world, unfortunately, sorrounded by the war.

5-0 out of 5 stars Concert for peace
Directly the opening bars of the music begin you know you about to encounter a rare treat,to become part of this unique event, this concert for peace.I would love to have been there on that evening in New York.Nana sings these songs with style and beauty as only she as a true star can.She recently toured the British Ilses and I was fortunate to go to three concerts of this extensive tour. She sang many of the songs off the concert for peace album. If she is ever in a town near you go and see her and her excellent musicians, you'll not regret it.In the meantime buy this album and enjoy this live experience. My only regret, I know there is also a video tape filmed of this excellent evening.Any suggestions where I might be able to find this video recording ... 5-0 out of 5 stars TRINI LOPEZ( recorded live) AT PJ'S
In my opinion this was Trini Lopez most popular album of his entire career. Recorded live in 1962 during one of Trini's memorable performances at PJs in Texas, and released by Frank Sinatra's "Reprise" label, this CD a must have for all Trini Lopez and rock music (with tex-mex music influence) fans. In my opinion, the crown jewels of this recorded live performance are definitely the old time hit classics "America" and "If I Had a Hammer". This album includes its original Lp cover and also offers memorable bonus tracks which makes its purchase mandatory for all those of us who remember listening and dancing to it when it was released during 1963 and long after that. Its a wonderful thing that those who think likewise released it on CD format therefore making it possible for us to keep enjoying it today.

5-0 out of 5 stars TRINI AT PJ'S STANDS THE TEST OF TIME
All the tracks on this CD stand the test of time.
5-0 out of 5 stars "If I Had a Hammer" makes Trini Lopez a folk singing star
With the release of this album in April 1963 Trini Lopez became one of the more unusual singing stars of the Folk Revival."Trini Lopez at PJ's" made it to #2 on the Billboard charts and stayed in the Top 40 for about a year while the single "If I Had a Hammer" became Lopez's first hit.Lopez was actually the singer and guitar player for a folk trio that had Dick Brant on bass and Mickey Jones on drums.A key part of this album is that it is a live performance, which played to Lopez's strengths as an infectious and likeable performer. Not that Lopez was an overnight sensation.Buddy Holly had tried to get Lopez signed with his label, but prejudice against his ethnicity killed that deal and it was not until Frank Sinatra signed Lopez to his personal label, Reprise, that Lopez was able to record his first album under his own name.Read more

I got this cd about 3 years ago for my birthday and from the moment I put it in the cd player I loved it. This is probably one of my favorite celine dion cds and I own them all. 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best LIVE concert albums of the 80s.
This was my introduction to Jane Olivor, and it was so fantastic a CD that it made me go out and buy all her other albums...and it made me long for her return to recording, which I am glad to report she did about 3 years ago on another label.5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Jane !
I was in the audience the night this albumn was recorded. You get a real feel for the excitement Jane brings her fans. All the great songs from her previous albumns are here.Don't miss it.5-0 out of 5 stars Jane Olivor's Best and Only Live Concert CD Shines!
After seeing an ad in a local Hollywood magazine, I'm happy to tell everyone that Jane Olivor is back recording on a different record label. So, to celebrate and commemorate her return, I ordered her live concert CD, since my old cassette version deteriorated from excessive use. Wow! What a difference! Her mellifluous golden voice and wistful songs brought back a lot of memories of my life in the 70's.She's one of my favorite female vocalists, along with cabaret diva's Samantha Samuels, Linda Eder, and Karen Mason. One of my favorite songs is "Where There Is Love" (track #4) on this CD.Jane Olivor wrote "Where There Is Love" and her version, along with a recent cover by fellow cabaret vocalist Michael Poss', are magnificent! Light some candles and a have nice glass of wine when you listen to this CD especially on a cold, and rainy night. You're mind will gently unravel all of your memories, and put a smile on your face of so many long, lost friends. ... Read more

My favorite tracts are THIS ONES FOR YOU, WEEKEND & ITS JUST ANOTHER NEW YEARS EVE. To me, this Live album of barry released in 1977 is his most beautiful album ever. Its raw, romantic, & a joy to listen to. I wore out my original record so I now have a cd version of Live. 4-0 out of 5 stars A great voice
I'm really finding pleasure and comfort in the voice selections and versitality of Nana. This is a great collection, with a star studded crew and a chance to hear a new voice from decades past.

5-0 out of 5 stars A blast from the Past - A True Gem!
When Universal Greece released this album, which was Nana's first US recording, no one expected it to become so successful. It seems the recording was actually more successful today then when originally released in the 60's. I believe it actually received Gold or silver certification in Germany!!!! The orchestrations are beautifully arranged and Nana has a unique vocal style on this recording that is very different from most of her recordings. It's very easy on the ears.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must!
The sound is incredible and Mouskouri's interpretations are magical. It has nothing to do with later works of her. It is a pure jazz album and the Tori Zitto Quintet creates a phenomenal sound. It sounds like it was recorded yesterday! A Mouskouri fan or not this is one of the best vocal albums ever! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars "I'm A Cement Mixer, Baby; A Churnin' Urn Of Burnin' Fire!"
I have always liked this album, but I recommend that you buy the newer version with extra tracks and dialogue added. As it is, this is still a great live Elvis performance from 1973. The set is 22 songs long, and also features the traditional "Also Sprach Zarathustra" introduction and a track of Elvis making introductions of the band. Standouts here are led by the best version of "I Can't Stop Loving You" in history: the vocals are powerful, and the band is in top shape, with particular kudos going to the drums and horns. Also strong are "Burning Love," "Steamroller Blues" (even though it's tongue-in-cheek, it's still great), and "A Big Hunk O' Love," which Elvis introduces by saying simply "Big Hunk," a line that always makes me laugh. On the down side is the simply appalling version of "Hound Dog" featuring guitar work that is reminiscent of an unpleasant pre-disco funk that does not compliment the song in the least.
3-0 out of 5 stars Better than Elvis at MSG!
Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite released a year after Elvis at MSG,was probably pointless to release. Who needs a live album two years in a row? Aloha from Hawaii is a much better album that the previous live album from Elvis. The set is considerably different, with very little 50's music making it into the set. A few songs are performed very poorly like Hound Dog, but the majority of the album is enjoyable.

3-0 out of 5 stars Erratic Elvis
Elvis is by far the greatest artist of all time and I am a huge fan owning most of his material but this album is not as good as people make it out to be.In many of the songs he sounds bored and lethargic and much of his passion is lost. The problem with the 70's is you have to sift through live and studio cuts to find gems.Elvis's true artistry was displayed in the 50's and when he came out of the army. Then he started to waver with sub standard material from the films. He redeemed himself with the 1968 comeback special where he sang some of his classic Sun and RCA songs better than he did originally, his voice more gravely and bluesy. From then on his recordings ranged from sheer brilliance to ghastly pap.Research before you buy because RCA will release anything that moves or doesn't move in order to see dollar signs. The colonel would be a Proud Mary. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Quality Recording by quality duo
There was a time in the 1980s when Daryl Hall and John Oates would be proclaimed "the most successful duo in Rock history".This argument can definitely be substaniated. One thing that has always been a weak spot is the lack of a solid live album from the duo. There had been two previous live efforts - "Livetime" and "Live at the Apollo". However, both of these albums failed to capture a major chunk of the portfolio of the Hall and Oates collection."Livetime" was a 1978 release - and this was released before Hall and Oates would reach their peak period in the early 1980s."Live at the Apollo" was more of an EP release that coincided with Hall and Oates' performance at Live Aid. The focus of this live album would be the alliance with the Temptations as well as some additional cuts. It wasn't until 2001, when Hall and Oates would release "Greatest Hits Live". This would be by far - their best live release and something very worthy of "the most successful duo in Rock history".
5-0 out of 5 stars All of the Best - Live?? No Way!
There are no real words to describe what it is truly like seeing these guys live - this collection is the next best thing to being there! The philly duo has been making music for over 20 years and today they sound better than ever.Soulful tunes with a rock edge has been their mantra from the very beginning and no one does it better. The collection encompasses songs from the deep, dark 70's to the dance, pop intensive 80's.Seriously, if you have ever loved Hall and Oates, but never seen them live - give yourself a treat, right now!

5-0 out of 5 stars Still have it...
In fact, not only do they stil have it, they have something they lacked before. Now the music truly is theirs, their variations are true, unpredictable, and skilled.Daryl's voice is impeccable. It is his voice that lends the ease to the music. But don't underestimate John's role in this. His work is also flawless. They are masters of their creations.Having seen them live, I could never listen to the studio versions on CD again. This CD is the truest recording of their live work.Buy this CD Yesterday!! ... Read more
