5-0 out of 5 stars The fantastic Josh Groban Live in Concert---wish I was there!
I was switching channels on TV and on the screen a refreshing, young face appeared singing magnificent songs with such a powerful voice and he definitely caught my full attention. At that time I did not know who Josh Groban was until I saw him late that night on PBS.I thought he was Italian because of his looks and that half of his songs sounded Italian to me. He looked good--handsome face and the way he dressed up. I am no Italian, but the songs connected to me, so much more with the songs in English. The song To Where You Are was a favorite, but personally my favorite was Broken Now not only because of the passion and feelings that Josh always puts into his singing, but also because of the meaningful lyrics of the song. Everything about Josh songs and voice always has the soothing and haunting effect on me. Furthermore the concert covered in the DVD shows the lighting with a dramatic effect. It was such a beautiful sight and so pleasant to listen and watch Josh Groban so that immediately days later I went to the website and ordered the DVD with the CD bonus covering the live concert of Josh.

5-0 out of 5 stars JOSH GROBAN is AWESOME
He sings and I just melt. What a voice!!!..Truly one of the best singers of my time!

3-0 out of 5 stars Groban - Again
If you have never listened to Groban - buy this combo. As always, the recording is excellent and the DVD is a very nice bonus.

Editorial Review

A criticism that has long dogged Billy Joel's career involves his songs' direct, heart-on-the-sleeve emotional sentiments and a musical approach that often revels in pop music's past glories instead of reacting against them. Ironically, those are the very strengths of Twyla Tharp's dialog-free pop ballet based on Joel's infectious canon of music, including his recent forays into the classical realm. This live cast recording is fueled by the piano and vocals of Michael Cavanaugh, who, backed by an ensemble handpicked by the songwriter, gooses every last drop of drama from Joel's already theatrical songs with a verve worthy of the legend himself. But divorced from Tharp's always kinetic choreography, and despite angular reworkings of "We Didn't Start the Fire" and other Joel standards, it's a collection that sometimes sounds akin to Joelmania: not really Billy, but an incredible simulation. 4-0 out of 5 stars Saw the show - what a memory
I love Broadway and grew up on the Piano Man (no I am a Chicagoan and haven't yet seen anything on New York's Broadway). This show did justice to both an now I listen to the CD to re-live the event!

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Concept, But Originals Outshine
In anticipation of seeing this show, I picked up a copy of the cast cd.The orchestrations were crisp and Michael Cavanaugh's voice was quite good as the "piano man".Best Tracks include:
1-0 out of 5 stars Movin' Out CD: Why?
Who is this recording for? Surely not for Billy Joel fans, who would undoubtedly prefer Billy doing the actual singing. For that matter, why would anyone want to listen to 60+ minutes of Billy Joel covers? This is the most pointless cast album since Contact. Movin' Out is a similarly visual show the appeal of which lies not in Michael Cavanaugh's admittedly distinctive performance. It's no wonder you see used copies of Movin' Out is used records stores everywhere. ... Read more

Editorial Review

If Josh Groban's unabashedly melodramatic musical fusion inspires grousing on both sides of the classical/pop pundit divide, the screams of the (mostly) young female fans that punctuate these 2004 performances at L.A.'s historic Greek theater better underscore the real point. This set's CD and more expansive DVD complement each other well; if anything, supplemented by a live string ensemble and crack backing band, they're a warmer, more focused showcase for the singer's talents than the studio albums that made his meteoric fame. In peak form, Groban variously delivers forceful renditions of his pop-operatic powerhouses "Canto Alla Vita" and "Anna Luce Del Sole" (the former featuring a drum solo [!] from Groban, the latter a fine guest turn by Bela Fleck on banjo), takes a surprising solo piano break on Paul Simon's "America," waxes Central Asian on Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Too much Hype, Too Little everything at the Greek
Try as I might to sit through Josh Groban's Greek concert, all I got out of it was a headache. The ache started the first time Groban hit a sour note from singing through his nose.I winced and my boyfriend asked me what was wrong with my face!He used to be jealous of josh but no more. When he saw that I wasn't enjoying this new Josh Groban without the voice that made him famous, he actually felt sorry for me.I felt bad for myself too because I bought this thing. The screaming and manic stuff on the screen was mostly what came thru but Josh's voice took a trip somewhere that didn't record well on this DVD.I think "nasal" would be closer to what I heard. It wasn't good, that's fer sure.Hey, if you don't have a central nervous system or good hearing, you can stomach this concert. If not, buyer beware!Or you'll reach for the aspirin too.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely awful
Small-minded Grobanites claim that they got "defective" DVDs, but the only thing defective is Josh's voice.Nasal, whiny, flat-out atrocious...what happened to the beauty of your debut album, Josh?I have a feeling you lost a lot of fans with this disaster of a CD/DVD.

1-0 out of 5 stars Josh is better than this!
I did buy this DvD album and I did return it.I think Josh Groban is so much better than his "Live at the Greek" concert. He's having many problems and it's just too hard to watch (and HEAR) this rambling mess.I also would like to see what he has in the future. But I am interested in others now and they have the voice, without attempting to pander and sell a mess like this to me. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great as always
Celine's songs are always very good; however, still awaiting the DVD of the entire Las Vegas show; not the bits and pieces as was included with the CD.

2-0 out of 5 stars Save your Money
If you like listening to a live performance without the video than this one is for you... the DVD is just a teaser that has some interesting information about Celine, but doesn't have the live Las Vegas show I wanted to see. Again... save your money and wait until we can buy a DVD with her live stage performance that will have some entertainment value. I gave it two stars... very disappointed! C'mon Celine ... make it right for your fans... give us your live Las Vegas show on DVD! and make everyone happy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pure Musical Genius
This album is one of answers to if you were stranded on a desert island... what albums would you want with you. This is a 34 year old album that is a relevant today as it was then. The man could write, sing and entertain. One of his last performances before a couple year vacation, he went out on top and then reinvented himself as a romantic adult crooner as he grew out of the hippie aged songwritter. He has put out numerous live albums, (Love at the Greek, Hot August Night II) and while his original live album "GOlD" was a solid late 60's attempt, this is the album to own and hit the "continous play button."

5-0 out of 5 stars Diamond at his very best
Not many artists are able to perform live as well as they do in studio.Of the top of my head I can honestly only think of Bruce "the boss" Springsteen who may even be better live than in studio. Many live albums are available with Neil Diamond and he's never bettered this exceptional performance. It's like here everything fell completely in place; Neil's vocals are top-notch, the band sounds great and even the audience contribute alot.Diamond classics such "I am, I said, Play me, Stones, And the grass won't pay no mind" sound even better here than originally heard.Upbeat songs such as Sweet Caroline, Holly holy and especially You're so sweet sound MUCH better here than in their studio incarnations.
5-0 out of 5 stars Shattering The Hot August Night
Simply put, the best live album I've ever heard.

4-0 out of 5 stars Elton RAW
It is the raw sound of this album that first attracted me to it when I first bought it ages ago in Europe (under the heading 17-11-70 because of the different date headings they use). This was a concert Elton performed with just his bandmates, drummer Nigel Olson and bassist Dee Murray at a record studio in New York City. This is an electrifying set capturing the intensity of Elton's early performances, circa the famed Troubadour performance in LA in 1970.
2-0 out of 5 stars Fans can never be objective...
From the OBJECTIVE reviewer...Elton live is rarely a good thing. This CD is no exception and if it weren't for his better than average version of "Take Me To the Pilot" this wouldn't even get 2 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jaw-droppingly good
I'm always stunned when I see this record treated as one of Elton's weakest efforts, because I think it is BY FAR the most exciting, explosive record he ever put out.As a professional pianist/singer/songwriter, this is easily the most influential record I own.(I've also heard that fellow piano-basher Ben Folds has said something similar.)All live records should be this good. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Still One of the Best Live Albums Around
The recent addition to the Manilow collection, a remastered version of the Live album originally released in the 70's, is a welcomed and recent purchase. I admit that I originally had this album, yes..."album", and really wore it out from playing it so much.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Heaven!Whaddahfantasticalbum!
Early Manilow from 1977.Did I need ANOTHER Manilow album?YES!!!This 2 CD collection of 23 tracks of love, beauty, peace, fire and passion is truly awesome! It has been remastered and the sound quality is excellent. If you listen carefully, you can even hear Barry's Brooklyn accent in some of these early versions.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great live album from a great artist
I am a classic rock fan at heart. My collection includes Led Zep,Black Sabbath,The Beatles,Steely Dan..and yes Barry Manilow. Why Manilow? Why not? What here is not to like?A great lead vocalist and an awesome piano player backed up by an incredible band and a wildly enthusiastic audience. My mother had this album when it first came out when I was about 10 years old and I always loved listening to it.The new expanded edition here is even better. The first thing i noticed after not having heard it for a while was how enthusiastic Manilow is about his craft. He loves to entertain. From the fast and more rock orientated songs like "Riders to the Stars" to his awesome slow songs like "Trying to Get That Feeling Again"(which includes additional words not included on the first live album)the CD is perfect. The second thing i noticed was just how good his three female back up singers, known as LadyFlash are.In fact,on this expanded CD they do their own medley ,and it is great.Of course the VSM(Very Strange Medley)is one of the more entertaining songs on the CD.Many of Manilow's fans know he wrote commercial jingles while he was a young struggling artist but few of others know that. When you listen to this song you will be suprised to find out that Manilow ison your television almost everyday.I recomend this CD to fans of all types of music. If you truly like great music you will love this new expanded CD of "Barry Manilow Live" ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Greenbaum's a Pompous Idiot
Mitchell was still at the hieght of her songwriting and singing when this album was recorded. It recreates her concert format of opening strong with a backup band, pausing for an intermission, followed by an acoustic (almost solo) set where the band eventually joins her one or two at a time working toward a rockin' finish which many purists at the time--and clearly some to this day--despised. Get over it. (It has been 30 years)
3-0 out of 5 stars Cheesy and caviar
M. Allen Greenbaum's excellent review mostly says it all for me. Apart from the other criticisms, yes, Woodstock is absolutely murdered: that bass riff is not just dated and inappropriate to the song, it is boring in its own right.
5-0 out of 5 stars August 17, 1974.....every time I play it.
Of all of the concerts that I have attended in and around LA, this was the one that leaves me with a smile and a tear. That it was Joni Mitchell, and the lovely lady with me. It was cold out, that night. This was when there was no roof over the place(Always thought that it lost something after the roof). Joni turned in a solid performance, along with the backup band.Considering how much she scaled back her live appearances after, it was a priviledge to be there. How much better the story would have been, had I married whom I was with. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Les Miz Recording Out There
Now don't you disregard this because it says I'm a kid. I am very experienced in theatre and know exactly what I am talking about.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great that Ruffelle wasn't around to ruin this recording!
The TAC version is undoubtedly the best Les Miserables recording available! It's live, the orchestra is full, and best of all, the casting is great. It's a great relief that the production hired Miss Saigon's Salonga to do Eponine -- we have FINALLY have someone who not only emotes Eponine well, but can actually sing her lines -- the first two recordings (London and Broadway) treated us to a poor excuse of a musical theater actor who couldn't deliver lines clearly and who could barely stay in tune. Salonga, along with the other actors here, shows what the term Dream Cast means.
5-0 out of 5 stars Les Mis is Les Magnifique
I encountered Les Miserables through this particular performance. I bought the movie with the live performance and at first thought ewwwww. I was not big into musicals and my closest things to musical knowledge was listening to Phantom of the Opera and Jekyll And Hyde. Of course I bought the DVD of (David)Hasselhoff's performance. Point being, this version of Les Miserables changed my outlook on musicals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta join the crowd
OK, As much as I hate joining the crew of "my parents introduced me..." well, my parent's introduced me to the Limelighters, for years I grew up appreciating, not only great song writing and music, but quick wit and humor.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Trip Down Memory Lane
I ran across this CD and just had to have it.It's as fun now as it was when it came out! My friendsand I used to get together every weekend and sing along to folk music.I remember singing Hey, Li Lee Li Lee to this LP. What fun!"Madeira, M'Dear" still embarrasses me makes me laugh me after all these years. This album is great anda lot of fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll wear out the CD...
Like many of the other reviewers of the Limeliters, I was introduced to the trio through my father, through this album. Thirty years after I first heard it and twenty after I last heard it, I picked up the CD last week, and sang along with it the first time through. The songs stay with you, thanks to soaring harmonies and ferocious energy. The humor retains its bite more than forty years after its recording. Most impressively, the Limeliters didn't patronize its audience. Most of the humor on the record is sophisticated, and much of it is unspoken. For example, "The Monks of St. Bernard is sung entirely in French," yet the trio get across wickedly the salacious nature of the song. You don't need to like folk music to adore this record. If you appreciate musical virtuosity and peerless showmanship, you'll wear out the CD. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Fans can never be objective...
From the OBJECTIVE reviewer...Elton has never been good in concert because he isn't able to put a new spin on his music when played live and when it doesn't have the lush production it falls flat. Kudos for employing a symphony, but it still doesn't make it memorable.

5-0 out of 5 stars TheDefinitive Elton John Collection
This album to me is the definitive Elton John collection. The choice of songs is impeccable. Mostly made up of songs from the early years of the John-Taupin relationship, it is the definitive way Elton should be heard. The older songs such as "Sixty Years On", "The Greatest Discovery", and "The King Must Die" are rare nuggets that reveal a time when the writing styles of the duo was very raw. In my opinion, the version of "Tonight" is a lot richer sounding than the version on "Blue Moves". "Tiny Dancer" and "Burn Down the Mission" are Elton concert staples, but are given added luster with the addition of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. And of course this is the album that brought "Candle In The wind" back to the masses. Released as the single from the album,it brought Elton back to the Top 10 after approximately 4 year absence. True Elton fans know that right after this album was recorded, Elton had nodules removed from his throat. Knowing this adds to the rawness of his vocals and the emotions from the recordings.(Elton did not know the severity of his throat problems at the time.) Given all of this, "Live In Australia" defines Elton John's career and is a cornerstone of his catalog that all fans should have. If I am introducing someone to Elton John, this is the album I would buy them.

5-0 out of 5 stars I got connections
This is by far my favourite Elton John album, because my Dad's on it!!! He was 1st cellist in the Melbourne Symphony at the time. He doesn't get a mention in the liner notes sadly, but he is on the video many times. And call me liar if you will, but I did meet the man after the concert, I was 8 though (damn). 3-0 out of 5 stars Elvis Rocks the Big Apple
Amazingly, this 1972 album marked the first commercial release of an entire Elvis Presley concert. "Recorded at Madison Square Garden" packs in plenty of diverse music and nostalgia to keep the fans entertained for a fast-paced hour. Highlights include "Proud Mary," "Polk Salad Annie," "American Trilogy" and a rare version of "The Impossible Dream." However, "An Afternoon in the Garden" remains a superior document of Elvis' historic New York engagement.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Absolutely Stellar Performance
I was not a hardcore Elvis fan before picking up "Live At Madison Square Garden" and I did not know what to expect on my first listen. Would this be for Elvis die-hards only? Would this be the sluggish lethargic King of later years that was often bored on stage?
5-0 out of 5 stars This is one of the best live Elvis albums ever!
This album is great!Almost all of the performances were the best, or comparable to the best, I have ever heard.Even the covers.Yes, Elvis did a lot of covers. And if you are a die-hard fan of the original bands, then you probably won't like the Elvis covers as much as the original recordings. However, if you are an Elvis fan, you will know that he rocks these songs and you can totally hear the audience going crazy from these performances.Trust me, if you like live performances and you are an Elvis fan, you will love this album. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Buy it for "Sunshine"
The best reason to buy this album truly is to get Hamish Stuart's version of "Ain't No Sunshine." I guess with the advent of ITunes you should just download "Sunshine" and forget the album. Oh wait, that's right. None of Paul's stuff is on ITunes. Never mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who knew a Beatle could go totally unplugged and still sound magnificent
At first when I looked at the songs on the CD, it looks like all the songs were easy to play unplugged, because most of the originals were somewhat unplugged already. As in And I Love Her, and Here, There, and Everywhere. But no, Paul doesn't just rehash the songs, he creates different arrangements, most notably in the harmony of And I Love Her. You also get to hear Paul's bassist/guitarist (mostly bassist) Hamish Stuart sing in Ain't no Sunshine, and Hamish handled the song pretty well. My favorite has to be And I Love Her. I must admit, the original was too fast and boring. But the added harmony and slowed down to an "R&B" pace makes this song shine out from all the others. Robbie's guitar work in all the songs are nothing short of amazing, the drummer's work adds a very essential touch to the music, Hamish's vocals match up right next to Paul's, and Paul, well we all know he's amazing. I recommend this CD to everyone. Beatles fans, or not, this is a live masterpiece.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who are you???And what have you done with that cute ex-Beatle????
Or so might you say if you hadn't 1) happened to have seen this MTV "Unplugged" special way back when (the copyright tells me it was recorded in 1991) or 2) happened tohave seen Sir Paul on a solo tour since about 1992.Because in many ways, this cozy little performance, supported by the crew who will back him up on some of these future tours (Hamish, Wix, Blair Cunningham, Robbie McIntosh & the late Lady Linda McCartney) and with its intimate feel, is a precursor to those shows (despite his appearance in huge arenas, McCartney has taken to devices that encourage a "sitting together by the bonfire" feel, such as Beatle singalongs, and the audience back-and-forth that occurs here).

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning live set upstages early recordings
Truly great live albums are as rare as hen's teeth when scrutinised closely, but this 1981 live recording from Billy Joel could very well be the greatest of them all.
5-0 out of 5 stars Flawless
I'm not kidding. I think this is probably the best live CD I own. I had no idea what I was getting into when I bought this, and did so on somewhat of a whim. The entire CD is incredible, not a weak track on there. The sound quality is astounding, the shows were recorded so well you often forget you are listening to a live performance (and the remastering sounds good too). But really its Billy and the band that make the album what it is, and this disc contains versions of Billy's songs that have never sounded better. Yes, I would say all the songs on this CD are far superior to their original album versions (which were excellent to begin with), especially tracks like Ballad Of Billy The Kid and Miami 2017. Do yourself a favor and get this CD, its only 9.99 and you won't be disappointed. Oh and listen to it LOUD. On a good system. Then pick your jaw up off the floor.

4-0 out of 5 stars You're My Home
We bought the CD because You're My Home is our wedding song, but there are so many great songs that you don't hear on the radio on this disc. For my money, it's the best Billy Joel disc for true fans of the man, not the fans who just love the hits. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Critics may quibble over the creative roller coaster that's been Paul McCartney's post-Beatles solo career, but few can deny his status as one of rock's most buoyant live performers and consistent crowd pleasers. That drive to stake his claim onstage (said to be one of the factors that drove the Fabs to dissolution) energizes this otherwise largely backward-looking collection of performances from his 2002 world tour; fully two-thirds of the double-disc's 35 tracks hail from the Beatles catalog, with the rest slanted toward early solo-career standouts like "Jet," "Maybe I'm Amazed," and "My Love." But Mac and his focused backing quartet deliver them with a punchy edge and sense of abandon that's largely MIA on previous McCartney live releases. Other than pausing for tributes to his fallen comrades ("Here Today," a solo acoustic paean to John Lennon followed by a touching, ukulele-backed nod to George Harrison with "Something"), it's largely a rollicking career retrospective from a musician whose restless drive to perform invests this collection with something more than mere nostalgia. The singer who invoked Bach at 22 may still refuse to act his age, but here that's not a bad thing at all. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Awful Live Recording
The recording of this live music is one of the worst I've ever heard and rivals the quality on some bootlegs. The guitars are way up and overpower everything else, including Paul's voice. There's no transition between the songs - just wait 3 seconds and the next one starts.Amateurish is the best way to describe this effort.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely outstanding!!!
This is an incredible live album.Being only 22 years old, I clearly missed out on the heyday of the Beatles and most of Paul's solo career. However, I was lucky enough to finally have the one experience I've dreamed of ever since I first started listeing to my dad's Beatles records at the age of 3 or 4...seeing Paul McCartney, my favorite Beatle live in concert.I saw his 2005 show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and I was absolutely blown away. The ticket may have cost me $170, but the 3+ hour show made it worth every single cent. This CD is fairly similar to the set he played that night, which is why I have such a liking for it.Paul is an incredible amazing live persona. He busted out in obscure Beatle numbers that were absolutely incredible to see performed live.Never in my life would I have expected him to play songs like "I'll Get You" or "In Spite of All The Danger"...a track that I don't even believe the Beatles wrote, and you would have only heard if you own Anthology 1.Yes, I am speaking of a different tour, and songs that aren't included on this CD, but I guess what I'm getting at is that this album, as good as it is, can't even come close to doing justice to the amazing experience one gets from seeing this true legend of rock live.I fully recommend buying it if you haven't had the opportunity to see him play in person.Classics like "Let Me Roll It", "Maybe I'm Amazed", "Sgt. Pepper's", "Jet", and "Band on the Run" are just that more amazing when performed live. For a 63 year old man...he rocks like he was 23.You honestly could never guess his age from the show he puts on.The energy he gives off is uncanny.Truely, Paul McCartney may be the greatest living rock legend of this time, times past, and times to come.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great CD set from a legend!
Back in the USA contains a great set list of one of the most influential rock stars of the past 50 years.Paul McCartney and his band perform many of the Beatles songs to perfection. If you like the Beatles, you will enjoy this CD set immensely!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD
I got this cd about 3 years ago for my birthday and from the moment I put it in the cd player I loved it. This is probably one of my favorite celine dion cds and I own them all. I love the song Calling You and I also really love the song Elle. This is a beautiful cd and well worth the money. This cd is worth the money alone just for the song Calling You. This is a beautiful cd and a must buy for any celine dion fan or someone who just wants to listen to a great cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wings at their arena rock peak
Not so much anymore but perhaps one of the better secrets out there is how great a band Wings really was in their day.Hindsight has allowed for a better perspective of Paul's post-Beatles output, since at their peak, Wings came too soon after the dissolution of The Beatles and anything Paul did seemed to pale in comparison (a truly unfair burden).By 1976, the chains had come unshackled as McCartney and Wings had several blockbuster albums (Red Rose Speedway, Band on the Run, Venus and Mars) and even more hit songs (Live and Let Die, Jet and Junior's Farm) under their belt.Everything peaked on the Wings Over America tour of 1976,Paul's first live appearances in the United States since 1966 when The Beatles gave their last concert performance.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best live Album of all time
This CD blows away the Tripping the live fantastic and Paul is live CDs away. The Paul Mccartney Band 1989-1993
5-0 out of 5 stars Paul McCartney's best live album
I concur with other reviewers. This is better than the live albums that followed. The music is top notch and feels like the band is having a great time playing the songs.

HAVE PLAYED THIS CD A FEW TIMES, BUT HAVENOT REALLY LISTENED YET.THIS WAS A HEADS UP FROM A FRIEND.

5-0 out of 5 stars YES I DO BELIEVE, I DO BELIEVE!
I had lost all hope in this generation of music. RAP CRAP had consumed all young people giving them no hope for distingushing TRUE TALENT! But then.... along comes Isley and Bacharach. Is it commercial? I HOPE SO! Why is there a stigma to something that sould sell and give the listners more music sweetness to their ears and soul then has happened for years? Ron Isley has emerged as a talent to behold. His sometimes Al Green sounds heals the most savage beasts of music wantoness. I only wonder what can be done for a follow-up to this masterpiece?

5-0 out of 5 stars great music!!!!!
