5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning Live album, as good as it gets ...
Into the new millennium and Muse together with Gomez, Mercury Rev, Elbow, Coldplay and The Flaming Lips (from "Soft Bulletin" (1999) onwards) were the bands that really excited me the most. (Previous to these recent years Kings X and Dream Theater "did it for me" in the 90's, Marillion were "my 80's" band together with Simple Minds, Big Country, Waterboys and U2. My 70's favorites were largely Genesis, Rush and Jethro Tull.
4-0 out of 5 stars A fan-only collection, but a good one for the fans ...
Even though I rate this collection at 4 stars, I actually think it could have been much better. The reasons for this I'll return to below. This collection is a bit odd - 2 discs, one consisting of B-sides, and one with a live recording - two nice features for the fans, but unfortunately neither of them complete, which makes them not as valuable for the fans as they could have been.
5-0 out of 5 stars Never disappointed!
"Hullabaloo" keeps you engaged throughout both CDs. Amazing B-sides such as "Shrinking Universe" and "Map of Your Head" leave you speechless. The live recording in Paris shows that MUSE will have you captivated during one of their shows no matter what material is out. Overall a spectacular buy, worth every cent! ... Read more

Any Parrothead worth his or her salt-rimmed margarita glass knows that the central experience of being a Jimmy Buffett fan is attending his concerts. As Buffett mentions in the liner notes to this live set, it's like the circus coming to town each summer, except that in the case of his shows, it's the audience, not the cast, that wears the costumes. 2-0 out of 5 stars A snooze
Buffett has never been known for his great singing voice or guitar virtuosity, but that has never been the appeal of his music. These are party songs and he brings the perpetual atmosphere of island life to his concerts. For Parrotheads, this CD is a great way to live or, in many case, re-live that experience. For the casual fan of his music, who is looking for some great live music, this CD is a bore. Bland renditions of some of his hits, combined with inane banter in between songs simply makes for a dull listen. Parrotheads will likely enjoy this, while all others should probably steer clear.

5-0 out of 5 stars Feeding Frenzy
It's a great CD, it must be a universal opinion as someone stole my previous copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cincinnati Rules!
Having been at this concert here in Cincinnati on Aug. 8th 1990, this CD brings back great memories of Hawaiian flower shirts, Head fins, all that alcohol, plus all those outstanding tunes!

3-0 out of 5 stars Jane Olivor's Melifluous Voice Is Timeless...
Jane Olivor's mellifluous voice is timeless and captivating and angelically majestic; unfortunately the production value of her live recording tracks of her 'cabaret' standards as well as some of her new songs incorporated in SAFE RETURN are disappointing. Why?For a gifted and unique singer as Ms. Olivor, I am surprised that a major investment firm or an extremely wealthy "benefactor" hadn't offered their support by investing/producing this particular live recording production CD by hiring a full orchestra such as The Chicago Symphony Orchestra or The Boston Symphony Orchestra, or whomever - to give Ms. Olivor a well deserved "icing on the cake" sound and quality that Ms. Olivor so richly deserves (Hint... Mr. David Foster? Mr. Richard Carpenter? - are you reading this?)Ms. Olivor deserves the best in production values because she is still in top notch vocal form along with an inherent centering of security and maturity to let us know that the show goes on - no matter what, and knows that we - her fans - will always adore her - no matter what.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best cd ever
This ismust buy her voice is in rare form doent miss a note sings as beautifully as johnny mathis & barbra striesand put together shes has a aesome voice a once in a life of really recording. Best side of goodbye is awesome by her to.Every cd from 1979 to nowshows how she just gets better & better. georgebretzlaff@sbcglobal.net

2-0 out of 5 stars I have to agree with Barbara Friedman on this....
The songs are classically Jane, but more so.She is too much more so. Ms Friedman noted a quick and breathless quality to the singer's phrases.I do hear that.To me, the songs do not flow in the mellow, sumptuous way Jane can so masterfully provide. The "body English" on her phrasing, on her words, is just too much.Give me EARLY Jane any time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have for Christmas
Christmas without John Denver? Not in my house. We always have John's Christmas music playing during the Holiday Season, along with other favorite artists. Now I am building a collection for my car, so I won't have to "borrow" from the house.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Christmas Classic
All John Denver live performances are great and this one is one of the best.John was at his best in front of an audience. And he loved singing with an orchestra, and what better one than the National Symphony.John's renderings of the classic Christmas songs are warm and wonderful. And one additional note, the photos in the liner are wonderful.... not that I'm biased because they were taken by my best friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Any John Denver Fan will Love This CD
John loved performing with a symphony orchestra and it shows all through out this CD.Besides the wonderful music, you will love hearing the joy in his voice, his heartfelt laughter and the stories he tells about how some of the songs came to be.I'm so glad I didn't think..."I don't need that, I already have those songs"...and purchased this CD.I saw John at least 15 times in concert...with this CD, I feel like I'm at number 16!John Denver fans you'll want to add this to your collection. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Some great tracks, but disappointing overall
I bought this after hearing great reports about the Lilith Fair. This CD, however, does not match up with those reports.CD #1 is blah until Susanna Hoff's "Eternal Flame" and Sarah McLachlan's "Building a Mystery".CD #2 is an improvement, beginning with the outstanding "Water is Wide".The rest of CD #2 pales in comparison, though. If you have access to online music source, just download those 3 tracks and forget the rest.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lilith Fair Live
This recording was recommended by a friend and it would be true to say that there are some exceptional duets on the CD that make it worth while. It is a celebration of women in music and because of that there are some bands that I had not heard of before. Whilst it is good to expose people to different bands some of the musicians/songs were not 'my cup of tea' (so I consequently hit the forward button), but you never know they may grow on me. Overall I due enjoy this CD and certainly enjoy the majority of the songs.

Editorial Review

Since Bruce Hornsby first infiltrated the pop landscape in 1986 with the year's most socially conscious ballad, the Virginia native has proven himself to be a gifted singer-songwriter, piano player, and bandleader. All of those talents are much in evidence on this double CD of live material culled from his band's last two years on the road. A pianist with the chops to evoke everyone from KeithJarrett and McCoyTyner to FloydCramer and VinceGuaraldi, Hornsby takes a number of opportunities to stretch out here, including a solo introduction to his breakthrough hit, "The Way It Is," thatexplains why he almost ended up on the Windham Hill label. Not surprisingly, thelatter-day Grateful Dead sideman also gives his band plenty of instrumental slack, which can make lengthy workouts like "Spider Fingers" a bit daunting for pop listeners. But devotees of Hornsby's more straightforward material will still find much to love here, including haunting renditions of "The End of the Innocence" (written with Don Henley) and Hornsby's more recent "Fortunate Son" (not to be confused with the Creedence song). There's not much that could be called noise here, but Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars To my fan

5-0 out of 5 stars Live and At Their Best
As most Hornsby fans know, Bruce and The Noisemakers are one incredible live show. They play and play and then, play some more. There is nothing like the live music of Hornsby & The Noisemakers. So, obviously, a live recording is heaven for the Hornsby fan, but I would say that it is heaven for anyone who loves a great and passionate jam.
4-0 out of 5 stars Sounds like a good time...
I've never really been a big Hornsby fan. I was familiar with the singles and liked them, but he remained under my radar. But I kept catching him in performances on TV and thought, "This guy is an outstanding talent." So when I saw this one I figured this would be a great opportunity to hear him cut loose. Well, that's exactly what he does on this double set. A true Hornsby fan could give you a better breakdown of how this compares to his other work, but from a newcomer's standpoint, this is an excellent example of a multi-talented musician who doesn't limit himself to a sound; he blends rock and jazz into an amazing package. Not a five star for me as he occasionally overindulges on the free form jazz, but this is a nice listen. Crank it up a bit to really appreciate where Hornsby is willing to take his music. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars . Unbelievably Outstanding
Every once in a while you come across something very special. If you came to this page then you have long ago or just recently discovered this highly underrated and extremely talented lady.
5-0 out of 5 stars let the filter of time float this to the top
I agree with those who think this should be blasted into space. Just ridiculously good. Her thoughts are not my thoughts but hey I kinda know about hers because hey she communicates. And it cuts pretty deep. This record is an example of the argument that less is more. I would say that this is one of the top 100 records ever published. As for nonsense about hoarseness or sound quality I mean what is that all about...? The scream in save the country is the best thing about save the country. This album is a map to the treasure from one of the best songwriters and performers I've had the pleasure of hearing.

5-0 out of 5 stars A NYRO NIGHT IN NEW YORK CITY: LAURA LIVES FOREVER!
It was a chilly night in February, 1971 at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida (yes, it does get cold there occasionally), when I first heard Laura Nyro in concert.Sadly, it was the only time I would see her, due to her untimely death in 1997.She only played for forty minutes due to the cold outdoor weather, but my life was changed forever. How fortunate it is for me and other Nyrophiles that this CD has been made available 34 years after her Fillmore concert.Imagine that, a live recording of a similar show I had seen only 3 months prior! It's all here: 2 new recordings (American Dove and Mother Earth), covers of songs written by Bacharach/David, Goffin/King, and the best reason to purchase this CD, Laura accompanying herself on the piano performing her own compositions as only she can.

The 38 tracks on the two-CD set, "The J. Geils Band Anthology," were arranged out of chronological order so the first 10 songs on the second disc could all be live recordings. Those songs give you a good sense of what the second set at a J. Geils show sounded like back in the days when the band was the most exciting blues-rock band in the land. On stage, the sextet would expand the boundaries of the blues to include everything from Stax and Motown to jackhammer rhythms and screaming solos, and that roadhouse party attitude carried over into a series of hit studio recordings. --Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect
This is almost a 5 star collection.Had they included the John Lee Hooker song "Serves you right to Suffer", which was a show stopper in each show, I could have given it a 5th star. Despite this, it is a must have for anyone who had the luck to see one of their live shows.
5-0 out of 5 stars You don't like this...you got no soul
I remember when I got my first glimpse of the J. Geils Band.It was Don Kirshner's Rock Concert on ABC late one weekend night. Here it all was - rock 'n roll, blues, soul, charisma, energy and a flat-out dead-on sprint by a little band from Boston to absolutley (as they phrased it) blow your face out.I was speechless.
4-0 out of 5 stars Wow! High Energy Blues and Rock
If you are looking for high energy, mega bpm rock and blues, you've found the right CD. J Geils was founded in 1967 and was driven by three personalities, Peter "Wolf" Blankfield (vocals), Magic Dick Salwitz (on harp), and Jerome "J" Geils (on guitar). Wolf wrote many of the songs, but it was the driving harmonica, the incredible beat, and the blueze material which made their success.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sneakin' Up on Everybody
I had gone to the theater to hear Eric Johnson. But first, there was some guy on stage named Willy Porter."Never heard of him," I thought. And then I heard him perform "Breathe."
5-0 out of 5 stars Superb
This is simply a superb CD. Willy has it all, great voice, great talent on the guitar, great sound and mastery of the technology to achive great sound. Great tune writing. Great feeling. I saw him play last fall on the joint tour he did with Martin Barre. The two of them joined forces to support each others solo album efforts- AND they were supported by Doanne Perry, Andy Giddings and Johnathan Nooyce of Jethro Tull. I saw the show in a cosy comfortable small venue here in Madison Wi. I was floored. The musicianship and chemistry that eminated from that stage was huge. This CD only has one cut that has any other players "You Stay Here" in which Martin Barre compliments Willy with own huge talent. I love this Cd so much I have played it for all my friends and every one of them loved it regardless of their musical tastes. It trancends it all. Just superb. Now all I wish for is for a live CD to be released of the 2004 Willy Porter / Martin Barre tour. That would be a great follow up to this most excellent CD. Just buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Porter live, in top notch form!
Recorded in England and America between December 2001 and June 2003, every track on "High Wire Live" is an intimate selection between man, guitar, and audience. Willy Porter carries on a tradition that reminds one of the late Dave "Snaker" Ray in a contemporary rock format. His rhythm guitar uses accelerating minor chords and string-slapping punctuation while he sings the observant melodies. Influences of Indian ragas can be heard selectively in his rhythm work, carrying on E-string drones between chorus breaks. Guitarist Martin Barre of Jethro Tull fame guests in as the only other musician on the record, providing an interesting counterpoint response on both acoustic and electric guitars. Porter is finally gaining some much-deserved respect as a solo musician, carrying his audiences with his unique blend of classical, jazz and rock influences. Please visit his website at www.willyporter.com. This CD won Grammy Awards in 1995 for Album of the Year and Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance. Recorded live with Tony Bennett's long-standing accompanists Ralph Sharon on piano, Doug Richeson on bass, and Clayton Cameron on drums, the set includes more than 20 songs, many of them standards Bennett has sung for years, such as "Old Devil Moon," "I Wanna Be Around," "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," "All of You," and "Body and Soul." Guest artists k.d. lang and Elvis Costello appear on, respectively, "Moonglow" and "They Can't Take That Away from Me." It's a joyful romp for Frank Sinatra's favorite singer. Read more

It makes sense that a transition album by the Kinks wouldn't be a run-of-the-mill transition album. This artifact from 1972 originally came out on two LPs, the first consisting of new studio material (highlighted by the sublime "Celluloid Heroes" and "Sitting in My Hotel") and the second documenting a two-night Carnegie Hall stand. The live selections are representative of the sodden sets the Kinks were notorious for at the time. Ray Davis is in good humor ("My name's Johnny Cash; nice to see y'all"), and a seedy four-man horn section nicely juices up "Alcohol," which surpasses its studio predecessor. 4-0 out of 5 stars An Uneven Album featuring a couple of Kinks Classics!
This album was originally released a double studio/live set.
5-0 out of 5 stars Who Cares If The Liquor Flowed?? Life On The Road And It's Discomforts and Insights
At least the the live half of the CD At Carnegie Hall has feeling...It is pretty clear the Kinks were having a ball and so were the audience listening to the classics of the highly regarded Muswell Hillbilly album whose songs were an insightful view of mental stability in the 20th century...Alcohol,Paranooia etc. all included..The Muswell studio CD is indeed a classic and worth it's weight in gold, these live performances were originally the 2nd LP of the album and the CD presented here is one great long affair, half studio half live and it all flows together well.
5-0 out of 5 stars First Kinks album I ever bought...
Thirty years ago this was the first Kinks album I ever bought. It was love at first listen. A 2-record set, one live and one studio. It's great that it can all fit onto one CD. The studio album includes the classic "Celluloid Heroes" and my favorite "Sitting In My Hotel" in which Ray reflects about what all his friends would think he was trying to prove "riding in his chauffeur driven jam jar dressed in satin strides and two-tone daisy roots". Every other song is fantastic with much of Ray's sardonic wit and his keen insights into, well, mostly food. Then it gets even better. The live album is a blast. It includes great versions of "Top Of The Pops, Acute Schizohenia Paranoia Blues, Muswell Hillbilly, Alcohol, Lola and Till The End Of The Day" plus covers of the "Banana Boat Song and Baby Face". 23 songs in all. In addition you get great liner notes and quotes from each of the band members (separately of course). Plus two bonus tracks that weren't on the album. I am willing to bet that huge amounts of alcohol and junk food were consumed in the making of this gem. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Like being there live!
This is a wonderful compilation of live songs performed by Dan Fogelberg with various band members during the 90's.I had to the good fortune to see three of his shows during that time and always made a list of the songs played each night. Afterwards I would create a cassette of the songs available to re-live the concert. This record includes some previously unreleased material and it puts me right back into one of those seats again.3-0 out of 5 stars nice for fans
Not a bad cd.Though I heard this was recorded in the early to mid 90's, I do not recall hearing many of these songs performed live. Dan's setlist does not change much period, so many of these must have been one offs. The inclusion of 'Changing horses' makes it worth the price alone.'Looking for a lady' and 'as the raven flies' only sweeten the offer. A few other surprises are when Timothy B. Schmidt joins the fun for old Poco nugget 'You better think twice.' And a "where did that come from" reading of 'Statesboro blues.' Mr. Harrisons 'Here comes the sun' ends the acoustic set nicely. I probably would have rated this higher if it weren't for the inclusion of a few tunes that need not be here. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Live CD
Thanks Dan for all the great music over the years...this CD beats "Greetings From The West" for dollar-for-dollar-pound-for-pound showcasing Dan's music and especially wide-ranging talent. If you onlythink of Fogelberg as a "soft folk-rock balladeer" this CD willcertainly change your mind. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Side of Sam Cooke: the crooner
Early is his career Sam Cooke performed at the Copa and he 'bombed'. It took a lot of experience and a few years later before he returned. A few weeks before he performed a similar show in upstate New York and again that was not a success. With arranger Rene Hall he started working on new arrangements and other songs and we should be really glad he did.
5-0 out of 5 stars For the love of music...
Nothing can compare to the control and power generated from this performance. The only disapponting thing about this album is that it was one of his final recordings. The record is smooth and radiant from track one, anyone who loves music must own this cd and if you are sam cooke fan-- it is taboo that you do not have it. My favorite utterance is when he mentions in each fast paced song, "let me sing it for me this time". When he says this he rips into a soulful version to end a jazz/swing number... Absolutely delightful!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
Sam Cooke shows his best here. Relaxed, confident, withincredible voice. He and his band bringa groove to songs you thought never had one, and performs just enough of hispopular favourites to please casual fans. FIVE STARS. Confirms his status as the greatest RnB singer of my generation. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's live Toad, what else do you need to know?
Oh man, what a gem for fans. This live disc from 1992 is nearly flawless. It does only draw from the first three albums, but that's exactly why I love it. It has numerous songs from both their debut and my favorite album "Pale", and roughly half the disc is from "Fear", which is their hit-heavy and most popular album. Plus this is 19 tracks and 74 minutes long. The songs stick to the originals for the most part, but being live gives them a nice fresh sound. Glen speaks at a few points, but keeps to jamming for the most part. I really have no complaints with the tracklist, but in a perfect world this would also include "Covered In Roses" and "High On A Riverbed". Still, it's an excellent live record, and a must for Toad-heads.

5-0 out of 5 stars The definitive Toad album for their long-time fans.
I don't know how else to put it. This album is amazing. It captures Toad at their best, when it comes to live performances. It's a shame these guys didn't get more recognition.. they much more than deserved it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great live show from one of rocks's most overlooked bands
Finally, a live CD from Toad the Wet Sprocket. It's about time! And it surely doesn't disappoint. This band never got half the credit or recognition they deserved. But this CD is one treat for those of us who were fortunate enough to follow them throughout the years. My only complaint is that "Good Intentions" is not here. But that's all right. The outstanding quality of the album as a whole speaks for itself, and is reason enough to get this. If you're new to Toad the Wet Sprocket, I would recommend getting their studio albums first and then picking up this one. And for the long-time fan, get this NOW. Toad may be no more, but they sure left behind some great music. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great American singer/songwriter
I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Merchant and the other members of her then-band, the Ten Thousand Maniacs, in the late 80s, as a fan hanging around after the show. This was just before the band really broke into the national/international spotlight with their 3rd album (CDs were relatively new back then). She always seemed very sincere and intent about her music, but also humble about her own abilities. It is so inspiring to find musicians who maintain their focus on their music, and do not try to exploit their celebrity status only for the sake of more and more money.I heard the cover Space Oddity on the radio today, and was captivated by the song, not even realizing at first that it was Natalie Merchant. Her songs 'speak' for themselves - no introduction or analysis needed.

5-0 out of 5 stars On the long dry or raininy road this is the music to hear
I came across Nathalie Merchant unexpectedly. When I saw the movie One Fine Day I was captivated by the song she sings (one fine day), I looked everywhere until I foud the soundtrack and knew her name, then, in my usual used cd store here in Caracas I saw this wordeful edition (cardbox) of this live album.
4-0 out of 5 stars Natalie Merchant's Voice Is As Beautiful Live As In Studio...
I bought two studio albums of Natalie's in the past (Motherland and Ophelia) and absolutely love them. I was curious though how she sounded live so I came across Live In Concert and thought why not? It would also get me more known in some of her songs before Ophelia.
