5-0 out of 5 stars John Is Back !
I purchased my first copy of this album and the video when it was released in 1995. I have since then worn that copy out, so I recently purchased a new CD.
5-0 out of 5 stars GOT TO GET THIS ONE
I just started listening to this glorious voice and simply beautiful verses coming from my stereo and sat and listened to it all. My favorites, "I Wish I Could Be In Colorado" and the sadly touching love story, "Whispering Jesse,"also "Eagles and Horses". Most all of his old "stories" are included. John Denver's voice is loud strong and gentle when appropriate.
5-0 out of 5 stars Denver grown up
I was lucky enough to see John Denver in concert around the time the Wildlife Concert came out, and he did most of this material. It is extraordinary in its simple beauty. For those of you who only remember John from the 70's, as he aged his voice developed a rich maturity that is a pleasure to hear. And his newer original songs have depth and an edge that his early hits did not.I was annoyed to read a number of obituaries after he died that dismissed him as bubble gum folk music. They obviously never heard him sing into the 90's.This is a lovely couple of CD's, containing his early classics and his newer passions.I've worn mine out and I'm ordering another copy. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Elvis Rocks the Big Apple
Amazingly, this 1972 album marked the first commercial release of an entire Elvis Presley concert. "Recorded at Madison Square Garden" packs in plenty of diverse music and nostalgia to keep the fans entertained for a fast-paced hour. Highlights include "Proud Mary," "Polk Salad Annie," "American Trilogy" and a rare version of "The Impossible Dream." However, "An Afternoon in the Garden" remains a superior document of Elvis' historic New York engagement.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Absolutely Stellar Performance
I was not a hardcore Elvis fan before picking up "Live At Madison Square Garden" and I did not know what to expect on my first listen. Would this be for Elvis die-hards only? Would this be the sluggish lethargic King of later years that was often bored on stage?
5-0 out of 5 stars This is one of the best live Elvis albums ever!
This album is great!Almost all of the performances were the best, or comparable to the best, I have ever heard.Even the covers.Yes, Elvis did a lot of covers. And if you are a die-hard fan of the original bands, then you probably won't like the Elvis covers as much as the original recordings. However, if you are an Elvis fan, you will know that he rocks these songs and you can totally hear the audience going crazy from these performances.Trust me, if you like live performances and you are an Elvis fan, you will love this album. ... It's fitting that video channel VH1 is partnered with the obscenely attractive sibs of the Corrs for this live recording, captured in Dublin, near the band's hometown in Ireland. Given the stiff competition in the pop arena and the Corrs' rather limited touring, looks have doubtless played a part in their global ascent, although, judging by Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD
This was my first Corrs CD and it won't be the last.Great energy.

5-0 out of 5 stars A 'Real Good' and 'Intimate' Live Album
When the Corrs deliver it 'live', they deliver it real good. Whether it is 'covers' or 'originals', it is as good a live album as I have heard. The intimacy with the audience is evident and all the songs stand-up well 'live'. In my view, this is the best 'Corrs' album out there. Bono pops up on two tracks as an added bonus.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Live Album From A Band With A Unique Sound!!!
This album was recorded live in Dublin and is a breath of fresh air to to the listener. This band sounds just as good live as they do in their studio recorded albums which is a rarity these days. This album also proves that the band is willing to play cover songs written by other artists which is a major accomplishment in itself. As an aside it was with great dismay that I learned that Caroline Corr, the band's drummer is now happily married. No doubt male hearts all over the world were broken upon hearing this news!!!I wish Caroline, Andrea, Sharon and Jim every success which they so richly deserve. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Buy it for "Sunshine"
The best reason to buy this album truly is to get Hamish Stuart's version of "Ain't No Sunshine." I guess with the advent of ITunes you should just download "Sunshine" and forget the album. Oh wait, that's right. None of Paul's stuff is on ITunes. Never mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who knew a Beatle could go totally unplugged and still sound magnificent
At first when I looked at the songs on the CD, it looks like all the songs were easy to play unplugged, because most of the originals were somewhat unplugged already. As in And I Love Her, and Here, There, and Everywhere. But no, Paul doesn't just rehash the songs, he creates different arrangements, most notably in the harmony of And I Love Her. You also get to hear Paul's bassist/guitarist (mostly bassist) Hamish Stuart sing in Ain't no Sunshine, and Hamish handled the song pretty well. My favorite has to be And I Love Her. I must admit, the original was too fast and boring. But the added harmony and slowed down to an "R&B" pace makes this song shine out from all the others. Robbie's guitar work in all the songs are nothing short of amazing, the drummer's work adds a very essential touch to the music, Hamish's vocals match up right next to Paul's, and Paul, well we all know he's amazing. I recommend this CD to everyone. Beatles fans, or not, this is a live masterpiece.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who are you???And what have you done with that cute ex-Beatle????
Or so might you say if you hadn't 1) happened to have seen this MTV "Unplugged" special way back when (the copyright tells me it was recorded in 1991) or 2) happened tohave seen Sir Paul on a solo tour since about 1992.Because in many ways, this cozy little performance, supported by the crew who will back him up on some of these future tours (Hamish, Wix, Blair Cunningham, Robbie McIntosh & the late Lady Linda McCartney) and with its intimate feel, is a precursor to those shows (despite his appearance in huge arenas, McCartney has taken to devices that encourage a "sitting together by the bonfire" feel, such as Beatle singalongs, and the audience back-and-forth that occurs here).

HAVE PLAYED THIS CD A FEW TIMES, BUT HAVENOT REALLY LISTENED YET.THIS WAS A HEADS UP FROM A FRIEND.

5-0 out of 5 stars YES I DO BELIEVE, I DO BELIEVE!
I had lost all hope in this generation of music. RAP CRAP had consumed all young people giving them no hope for distingushing TRUE TALENT! But then.... along comes Isley and Bacharach. Is it commercial? I HOPE SO! Why is there a stigma to something that sould sell and give the listners more music sweetness to their ears and soul then has happened for years? Ron Isley has emerged as a talent to behold. His sometimes Al Green sounds heals the most savage beasts of music wantoness. I only wonder what can be done for a follow-up to this masterpiece?

5-0 out of 5 stars Wings at their arena rock peak
Not so much anymore but perhaps one of the better secrets out there is how great a band Wings really was in their day.Hindsight has allowed for a better perspective of Paul's post-Beatles output, since at their peak, Wings came too soon after the dissolution of The Beatles and anything Paul did seemed to pale in comparison (a truly unfair burden).By 1976, the chains had come unshackled as McCartney and Wings had several blockbuster albums (Red Rose Speedway, Band on the Run, Venus and Mars) and even more hit songs (Live and Let Die, Jet and Junior's Farm) under their belt.Everything peaked on the Wings Over America tour of 1976,Paul's first live appearances in the United States since 1966 when The Beatles gave their last concert performance.

Nevermind that Alanis Morissette's career spans back to her early teens and she has four prior CDs to her credit. It's just too early to go unplugged. Performances like this are better done in the privacy of one's acoustically appointed bathroom. An expressive, emotionally naked singer, Morissette bares a little too much on this outing. Recorded at New York's Brooklyn Academy of Music and produced solely by Morissette, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the carefully wrought songs and slices of her inner life, but there's little to be said about her shrill, thin delivery. Included is the never-before-released "No Pressure Over Cappuccino," which shedebuted on her Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great addition to the Collection
I bought this upon release, have played it a lot. It's not my favourite ALanis album, but I like Alanis' music a lot, and I must say that this live album is very nice indeed. The live versions of Head Over Feet, You Learn, I Was Hoping and That I Would Be Good are a joy for the ear, and especially You Oughta Know is wonderful on this album. As for the new songs, I especially enjoy Princess Familiar. The only two songs I do not enjoy as much here are Ironic and Uninvited. I love the originals, but the live versions lack "something". But in all, a great purchase, and a nice addition to her best of CD The Collection!

5-0 out of 5 stars Unplugged But Strong

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
As a 40-something man, I didn't expect to like this CD this much. What an original singer.Alanis has her own style and nobody can come close to copying it. She is brilliant, and I'm sure her searching lyrics speak to the hearts of millions. Some language may be offensive, she doesn't hold back on bluntness and direct messages. ... Read more

To call Traffic "mercurial" might be an understatement. After a promising debut, the band (whose core consisted of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Stevie Winwood, vocalist-percussionist Jim Capaldi, and winds player-keyboardist Chris Wood) variously broke up, saw Winwood's participation in the supergroup Blind Faith, reformed, and struggled with lineup expansions and contractions. Indeed, this 1971 live album recorded in London followed an unreleased Fillmore East effort by Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great live recording
First off, the eleven-minute Dear Mr. Fantasy is great listening, not at all indulgent like the Allmans, Zep, and Cream could get sometimes. And then there's 40,000 Headman, a dark, unforgettable tune and one of Traffic's Best. Also worthy are Medicated Goo and Gimme Some Lovin'. Though there are a couple uninspired monents (Sad & Deep, Shouldn't Have Took etc.), it's a must-hear for Traffic fans, along with the hits.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I first bought this album in a thrift shop in 1973. The sound quality is not great, but this was the strongest line-up of Traffic. It was recorded in London in July 1971, and has the four original band members: Winwood, Mason, Wood and Capaldi; plus Jim Gordon, Rick Grech and Reebop.
4-0 out of 5 stars traffic was feeling alright that evening
The rough edges of this disc are what gives it it's lasting charm. If it had been merely competent, professionally-executed performances of "Dear Mr. Fantasy" and "40,000 Headman," it would be nothing special -- just a curio for completists.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Live Album
Joni had a dream band backing her on this live recording: Jaco Pastorius (killer bass through and through), Pat Metheny (guitar), Michael Breacker (alto sax) and Don Alias (percussion).I own all of Joni's recordings and this one is one of the very best.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jazz or Rock?
It doesn't matter. A great live recording featuring lot's of
5-0 out of 5 stars Another Live Masterwork.
Joni's first live album, MILES OF AISLES, was a simple record of great live songs summing up her 1968-1974 work. But SHADOWS AND LIGHT is more like an intricate mosiac wonderfully woven to create an unforgettable concert experience for the listener, from the beautiful audio collage-esque Introduction and foward. One of the main differences is the amazingly delectable jazz band Joni plays with, providing riveting and muscular backups and solos on amazing pieces like "The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines" or "In France They Kiss On Main Street." It features mostly Joni's lesser known masterworks from THE HISSING OF SUMMER LAWNS through her MINGUS eras, except for a dreary and subdued take on "Woodstock" and a brilliant jazz romp take on "Free Man In Paris"...which like many people have pointed out before, particularly takes on a whole new life on this recording, and definitely should have been included on the CD transfer, as well as the wonderful "Black Crow" and Don's Solo, which also got the shaft from the American CD version. (But it's definitely still worth it. The other amazing songs very much make up for the 3 omitted gems.) The greatly collective cover of the classic "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" is fun and wonderful. It also features a beautiful live version of the Charles Mingus classic "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" but with lyrics of course, like the one found on her gorgeous MINGUS tribute album released the year prior to this in 1979 shortly after Charles Mingus passed way. She also pays tribute to another jazz legend, Furry Lewis, on the achingly beautiful "Furry Sings The Blues" from HEJIRA, who passed away the year after this was released. The live version of "Coyote" found on here is so compelling that it was actually also featured on THE LAST WALTZ live compilation by The Band. This is a great listen for Joni fans as well as jazz fans who haven't heard Joni before, since it focuses on her heavily influenced jazz work from 1975-1979. And also, wonderfully congo influenced moments come with the bongo driven "Dreamland" as well as the delightful Don's Solo. On many songs like "Hejira", "Amelia", And "Edith And The Kingpin" Joni's voice is like a sweeping echo through time that is goosebump inducing. And of course Pat's Solo, and the version of the profound title track "Shadows And Light" is equally awe-inspiring. I really love everything about this album. Not only the timeless music, but the overall feel to it. I have a hard time decribing it. You feel like you're actually there standing in front of the stage, dancing along with everyone and the band in joy. All of it's elements blend, the music, the artwork, the packaging, the band, the song selection, to make such a perfect listen! You can hear the passion and drive of Joni and the band. There is not much crowd banter or talking as there was on MILES OF AISLES, because this record is very much focused on the flow of each song and constructing an unbreakable and boundless musical atmosphere that creates hypnotizing dreamscapes and glorious overtures, crescendos, and codas. But the enthusiastic crowd cheering them on in all their glory is enough for me. Oh what I would do just to be standing in that crowd shouting back 'God Must Be A Boogie Man!' at all the right parts along with everyone else in unison. (And of course revelling at the sight of legendary Jaco Pastorius on bass.) It shows what can happen when truly talented musicians join forces to created the universal language of music. Joni live in concert is an unforgettable and spellbinding journey that emerces the soul in joy with each blissful sound. As I said before, I have a difficult time capturing the esscence of this breathtaking gem with merely words. Take a listen and hear for yourself. ... Read more

Even those around for the decade may find it hard to believe that Loggins & Messina were an excellent live act throughout the '70s. Some might argue they were superior to Crosby, Stills & Nash onstage in their ability to leap between introspective singer/songwriter and rock & roll modes. It's a shame so few people know about this recording.I've long since discarded my old "classic rock" collection ... paring it down to a bare handful of "essentials."This ranks as one of those handful of "essentials" in my collection ... Critics may quibble over the creative roller coaster that's been Paul McCartney's post-Beatles solo career, but few can deny his status as one of rock's most buoyant live performers and consistent crowd pleasers. That drive to stake his claim onstage (said to be one of the factors that drove the Fabs to dissolution) energizes this otherwise largely backward-looking collection of performances from his 2002 world tour; fully two-thirds of the double-disc's 35 tracks hail from the Beatles catalog, with the rest slanted toward early solo-career standouts like "Jet," "Maybe I'm Amazed," and "My Love." But Mac and his focused backing quartet deliver them with a punchy edge and sense of abandon that's largely MIA on previous McCartney live releases. Other than pausing for tributes to his fallen comrades ("Here Today," a solo acoustic paean to John Lennon followed by a touching, ukulele-backed nod to George Harrison with "Something"), it's largely a rollicking career retrospective from a musician whose restless drive to perform invests this collection with something more than mere nostalgia. The singer who invoked Bach at 22 may still refuse to act his age, but here that's not a bad thing at all. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Awful Live Recording
The recording of this live music is one of the worst I've ever heard and rivals the quality on some bootlegs. The guitars are way up and overpower everything else, including Paul's voice. There's no transition between the songs - just wait 3 seconds and the next one starts.Amateurish is the best way to describe this effort.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely outstanding!!!
This is an incredible live album.Being only 22 years old, I clearly missed out on the heyday of the Beatles and most of Paul's solo career. However, I was lucky enough to finally have the one experience I've dreamed of ever since I first started listeing to my dad's Beatles records at the age of 3 or 4...seeing Paul McCartney, my favorite Beatle live in concert.I saw his 2005 show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and I was absolutely blown away. The ticket may have cost me $170, but the 3+ hour show made it worth every single cent. This CD is fairly similar to the set he played that night, which is why I have such a liking for it.Paul is an incredible amazing live persona. He busted out in obscure Beatle numbers that were absolutely incredible to see performed live.Never in my life would I have expected him to play songs like "I'll Get You" or "In Spite of All The Danger"...a track that I don't even believe the Beatles wrote, and you would have only heard if you own Anthology 1.Yes, I am speaking of a different tour, and songs that aren't included on this CD, but I guess what I'm getting at is that this album, as good as it is, can't even come close to doing justice to the amazing experience one gets from seeing this true legend of rock live.I fully recommend buying it if you haven't had the opportunity to see him play in person.Classics like "Let Me Roll It", "Maybe I'm Amazed", "Sgt. Pepper's", "Jet", and "Band on the Run" are just that more amazing when performed live. For a 63 year old man...he rocks like he was 23.You honestly could never guess his age from the show he puts on.The energy he gives off is uncanny.Truely, Paul McCartney may be the greatest living rock legend of this time, times past, and times to come.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great CD set from a legend!
Back in the USA contains a great set list of one of the most influential rock stars of the past 50 years.Paul McCartney and his band perform many of the Beatles songs to perfection. If you like the Beatles, you will enjoy this CD set immensely!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Magical Mystery Tour
The Star Club performance has bounced around in some form since the 1970s, initially as a double-album import on the Lingasong Records label. The sound quality was very rough, but the liner notes and photographs were outstanding and the gig featured the lineup with Ringo on drums.
4-0 out of 5 stars Someone release ALL the Beatles Live in Hamburg recordings on ONE COLLECTION---Please!
I bought "The Beatles Live!at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany; 1962" as a double vinyl album back in the late 1970s.It was on some label called Lingasong.Back then, I didn't even know that any such recordings existed, so I was thrilled.I absolutely loved it (raw, relaxed & loose, with the Beatles sounding more than a little looped, goofing and interacting with the crowd), though I later heard a lot of criticism about the sound quality.True, the recordings weren't professionally made---so what? That's all there is.Later on I discovered that "I Saw Her Standing There", "Ask Me Why", and "Twist And Shout" were also recorded at that time, when I found (and purchased) yet another vinyl packaging of the recordings.Looks like the only thing I'm missing so far is "Hully Gully", unless somebody's sitting on some more recordings somewhere out there in Pepperland.
4-0 out of 5 stars Correction
Please do not be misled by previous reviews. These recordings were made in December, 1962. Pete Best was let go in August, 1962, and Stuart Sutcliffe died in April of '62. The Beatles at these recordings were John, Paul, George and Ringo. If anyone wants to hear Pete's drumming, I suggest the Decca Sessions, which are now widely available. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must buy for fans of British rock...
If you like straight up no nonsense rock and roll, the Kinks are for you. Dave Davies "cooks" on this CD and is surely underrated when it comes to all time great rock guitarists. The BEST version of Celluloid Heros is worth the price of this CD alone and you'll love the rest.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the young generation
The Kinks are at the same level as The Who,as one English groups, that during the 60's in some way, anticipated the various types of music, like Garage-rock or Punk. The music and the lyrics are excellent, but were often misinterpreted by the English.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Kinks glorious live recording!!
Simply, the Kinks is one of the top bands ever to hit the road or with a glorious recording legacy. If you like OASIS, PEARL JAM, U2 or The Who, you are going to like THE KINKS. This live recording captures the band in great shape (there is a DVD version of this cd). There are so many great songs that could have been included (such as NO MORE LOOKING BACK from "Schoolboys in Disgrace" wich is the "Stairway to Heaven" from this band or Around the dial).

5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I'd Been There!
This is my favorite live album of all time; bought it in early 1970, shortly after it came out.I'm so glad the CD version is available now, because I've absolutely worn the vinyl out!As someone else mentioned, it is a little short, but the energy is fabulous. The versions of It's For You, Nobody, One, "Eli's-a-Comin" , and Try a Little Tenderness are, IMO, much, much better than the studio cuts. Both vocals and instrumentals seem to be a lot more together in this live album.Unbelievable that it was done in '69, seems like only yesterday!

4-0 out of 5 stars In the true spirit of 'retro'
I remember when this album (not CD) was popular. This was always close to the top of our play list. For nostalgia, I recently purchased this CD...and at first I couldn't remember why we liked it so much. But after a couple of spins through the CD player, I realized that this is an excellent capture of the Three Dog Night sound.Well mixed, excellent musicians, and a great selection of music. It would have been really nice if they could have included some bonus tracks on the CD not originally on the album. This one really 'Socks it to it'!

Easily one of the best live performances ever captured on record, tape or CD! This is a great album! The music and the vocals are tremendous. The energy and feel comes through and you can tell the band and the audience are having a great time. The only knock for me is that it's to short. I wish these guys would dig out the rest of the tapes, re-master the tunes and add extra songs. There has to be more to this show somewhere. When you hear it I think you will feel the same way. There are so many reissue and re-mastered CDs with extra songs these days that could have been left alone. This is one that should be enhanced. It truly deserves it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Moody Blues at Their Best!!
This DVD was EXCELLENT!!The only thing I really missed was the "Cold Hearted Orb" oration by Graemme Edge. I also missed Ray Thomas, but they made a good choice with Norda Mullen as a replacement. She was perfect.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Live '88", "Steady On" Live
I love Shawn Colvin, her sound is fresh, creative and original. Live 88' does not disappoint on any of these counts. However, having listened to Steady on for many years, I thought Live 88' might be the raw version - it is not. This set is polished and very, very similar to the studio recording. If you are a collector or unfamiliar with the Steady On album, Live 88' is well worth having. If you are looking for something new from an old favorite, you will be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars An unadorned diamond
Most of these songs subsequently appeared on Steady On, but that album's production - too lush and sweet - runs counter to the meaning of these gems. Here we see the other side of the spectrum in terms of production - a woman singing great personal songs accompanied by just her own guitar. These are the best songs that Shawn Colvin ever wrote by far. You'd have to go back to Joni Mitchell in the 1960s before you found anything better than this for this genre of popular music.
5-0 out of 5 stars Emotion and Earthly Beauty
Having known Shawn Colvin just from her overplayed studio efforts, I was unprepared for this album, which not only approaches but achieves true greatness. She should NEVER return to the studio, given the capabilities on display here: a voice of lyrical sweetness and flawless intonation, perfectly integrated guitar playing of great imagination, and song-writing capabilities that are, if not exactly on the Joni Mitchell level (whose are?), impressively mature.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning live set upstages early recordings
Truly great live albums are as rare as hen's teeth when scrutinised closely, but this 1981 live recording from Billy Joel could very well be the greatest of them all.
