5-0 out of 5 stars Trick Or Treat
This is a great and smart collection. Just look at the selection of songs you get, Monster Mash, Ghostbusters, Purple People Eater, The Addams family theme, Twilight Zone and my new favorite The Martian Hop. I never heard the Martian Hop before even though it's from the early 1960s, pretty catchy song. It's a great cd and unlike other compilations that have movie themes this one has the actual real legit songs. That's the real Monster Mash song by Bobby Picket, that's the real beginning to the Addams Family show and that's the real RayParker Jr. singing Ghostbusters. It would be nice if they had more songs but you'll still be glad you bought this cd when you have company over for a party come October or Halloween Night.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Music Sung by the People that Made them Great!
A CD of fun, & silly Halloween music that you can enjoy because it's the recordings of the original singers, not the original singers brother's cousin's hairdresser's aunt.If you like Dr Demento type music, then you'll love this! My kids enjoy it as well. The 2 best songs are of course, Monster Mash and Martian Hop.Give it a try!

5-0 out of 5 stars good CD abc

5-0 out of 5 stars revolutionary
I remember going to visit my cousin Don in Texas when I was in about the eighth grade. He said "You've got to listen to this new guy. I've never heard anything like it."The guy was Jimi Hendrix and the record was Are You Experienced.Over the next 3-4 years Jimi Hendrix would rewrite the vocabulary of the electric guitar. Yet IMHO he would never be as revolutionary as he was on this record. He is both iconoclastic, yet commercial.
5-0 out of 5 stars Many Thanks To MTV Supporter
I think that I owe a thanks to the dumba** individual who goes by the name of "MTV Supporter". I needed a good laugh and your reviews (If you can call them that) had me laughing like there was no tomorrow. You'll notice that this guy has several accounts. It seems that his name for one of them is "You'll watch MTV if you know what is good for you. "I am a smart person... and you know it. Don't deny it. I know more than all of you. I watch MTV, which proves it."

5-0 out of 5 stars Enough songs so as not to completely drive a parent crazy
My nearly 3-year-old son did not appreciate this CD until he was about 2 1/2. Before that, I could listen to whatever I wanted. But now, it seems to ground my son, and reassure him. He asks for his music, and will not get out of the car until a song is over. The songs, often accompanied by children, are actually fun to listen to, and fun to be, well, fun with. My 1-year-old daughter remains unphased by anything except classical music.

I purchased all 3 volumes of this set, and vol 2 & 3 are much better. Vol 1 is 80% instrumental, I prefer more vocal.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Circle stays unbroken
With this rerelease a new generation can relearn the tradition of pure country that has influncenced not only nashville purists but rock as well. Much as John Hammond preserved blues traditions, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has recorded tradional songs with tradional artists that would have been forgotten to this generation raised on Nashville star and American Idol. The importance of this music can be seen in the resurgence of traditonal country music and and its impact on rock and roll in the movie "Walk the Line" where the two are virtually inseparable in Sam Phillips Memphis and the million dollar quartet. This Album is a must for anyone interested in the history of country, rock or pop music.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great but lacks a bit of the magic of the original vinyl
This is great American music and I fully agree with all the previous rave reviews that so eloquently praise this performance. I am giving it 4 stars only because the 30th anniversary discs digital transfer though good was not all I had hoped it would be. If you have ever heard this disc on vinyl you would know what I am nitpicking about. I wish the producers had given this disc all the attention it so justly deserves. Hybrid SACD stereo would have been ideal, but even standard CDs can reproduce a bit more of the magic once heard on the original vinyl. ... Read more

Less successful when it's sentimental (Waylon Jennings' "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys") than when it's wry (Willie Nelson's myth-puncturing "Me and Paul"), this cash-in compilation of previously released cuts was just in time to grab the first platinum record ever awarded a country album. 5-0 out of 5 stars Don't forget Tompall
I agree, this is one of the best albums ever.I grew up listening to it, and bought the cd as soon as it was released (my old LP is still played as well.)The only thing I would add is that don't forget Tompall. He was one of the best, even though this album wasn't his best effort.I would suggest checking out the newly re-released album "Charley" which is one of the two albums on "My Nortorious Youth".If you love the outlaws you will love this album.BTW, anyone know how tompall is doing these days?

5-0 out of 5 stars If you truly like country music, you will like this CD.
Waylon and Willie, of course, are the spine of this collection. Jessi Colter adds great measures of marvelous spice with her soulful singing and songwriting. Tompall Glazier registers a tad lesser than the rest, but it's still a fantastic CD. And the bonus tracks are pure icing on the cake. Mmmmmmmmmm. Great country music!!!

There are alot of songs missing in this soundtrack.I notice that "Goin up around the bend" by Credance is missing also. They played while Michael was riding in the far back seat of the beat up station wagon for the first time.To bad.It was a great song and one of their best.Glad they included the song Mcdowell sang at the restuarant. It was good too.I gave it 4 stars because of the missing songs. If they were included it would have been 5 stars plus.

4-0 out of 5 stars Snapshot of Seattle Times
Listening to the "Singles" Soundtrack is liking listening to a launching pad.Cameron Crow, he of much music fandom, directed the Singles flick at just the right time to help propel the Seattle grunge sound to a much larger audience. It's what happens when a seemingly alternative movement gets popularized...which is not a bad thing.Does a mass audience change the dynamics and quality of the music?I think not.Pearl Jam Ten is every bit as good as Pearl Jam No Code, so just because grunge got popularized through the success of Nirvana, PJ, Alice, doesn't knock the power of the music and the quality of the movement.
5-0 out of 5 stars Could be the best soundtrack of all time
Soundtracks never meant a lot to me. In fact, prior to buying this, I had never even taken the time to listen to one completely because I would get so frustrated with the choices so early in the CD. When my interest in 90s grunge was peaking is when I found the Singles soundtrack. My obsession with grunge has since diminished a tad bit but I still find myself listening to this all the time even though I've had it for a long time. From Alice In Chains' dark anthem Would? to The Lovemongers very good take on the Zeppelin classic Battle Of Evermore, I'm hardpressed to think of a soundtrack that delivers like this one does.

If you are looking for meditation or tranquility from daily stress I recommend not only this CD, but the entire collection. I have all the Pure Moods collection and keep buying more New Age music. I feel I've invested my money in good music. I listen to pretty much anything from soft music, Rock, Salsa, Calypso to Dance-Techno music, but when I don't feel like listening to loud music, I listen to these CD collection, specially on a Sunday to reconnect with relaxation to start another heavy woking week. Also, if you like gospel, I'm sure you'll love these even though is not quite gospel music. You just reconnect yourself spiritually in this material world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This original Pure Moods CD is a great CD.I think all 4 CDs in this series (so far) are good but none are as complete as this CD is.Though there are many different "new age" styles on this CD it still manages to work fine. From the beginning with Enigma (you can't go wrong with Enigma) to Miram Stockley's heavenly voice(s) in "Adiemus" to the sexy sax of Candy Dulfer in "Lily was Here" you can't go wrong with this CD.The other Pure Moods are also worth a listen as well as "Levitation" by Digital Moodz and the 2 Relax CD's from Blank and Jones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful intro To Mehdi ...
I've always enjoyed Pure Moods and this album is no exception, but while reading some of the customer recommendations posted on this site I discovered a group by the name of Mehdi (pronounced meddie). After an online search I found their site (SoothingMusic - Com) and listened to the samples...

Jamaican filmmaker Perry Henzell made reggae an integral playerin his gritty 1973 saga of arenegade Kingston singer who becomes a modern Robin Hood, casting oneof the style's earliest stars, Jimmy Cliff, in thelead, and filling this soundtrack--here presented in a remasteredversion--with classics from Toots & the Maytals ("Pressure Drop,""Sweet and Dandy"), Desmond Dekker ("Shanty Town"), the Melodians("Rivers of Babylon"), and the Slickers ("Johnny Too Bad"). Cliffhimself gets pole position, however, getting in the first ("You Can GetIt If You Really Want") and last ("The Harder They Come") words in thisfirst-rate reggae primer, which also features Cliff's enduring "ManyRivers to Cross." The Harder They Come is as close as a 35-minute album with two reprises can come to a perfection. 'Pressure Drop', 'Johnny Too Bad', 'Bridges of Bablyon', and the title track all are true classics.

Sometimes, covers of old songs and attempts to modernize old childhood favorites just fall flat. This isn't one of those times.
3-0 out of 5 stars I prefer the original artists
I bought this by mistake thinking the songs were performed by the original artists. I think you can only hear the originals by getting the dvd. I was pretty bummed at first but my child loves this. My only complaint is that you can't understand all of the words so some of the educational value of the songs is lost.

4-0 out of 5 stars I laughed I cried, I give it four stars
Making a cover album is difficult, you'll almost never please the purists who loved the original. Putting together a compilation CD with various artists adds the problems of uneveness in style and talent. Do do all this with School House Rock songs seems really hard. To review this CD is almost as hard. Most of us of "age" loved these songs when our musical tastes ran more toward Sesame Street (or insert your tastes here, the point is our tastes have evolved). The fact that so many people still like these songs is a testament to the originals.

The CD was used as part of an Italia Fiesta we organised in Albury NSW, Australia. The music helped in setting the party atmosphere for the evening. The evening was held as fund raiser for the Murray Valley Sactuary Refugee Group. The evening was very successful.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in this CD
We were very disappointed in this CD. We are always looking for good CDs to play at the Italian events we plan. This is not one of them. The songs are so old without exciting instrumentation. More than half the songs on the CD are instrumentals that sound like they are from the 50s (Montavani-style). We shouldn't have had to pay as much as we did for these old versions. Sorry, can't recommend.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is What Christmas is Meant to Be
The Very Special Christmas series of CDs is awesome...great music for a good cause (The Special Olympics).I've now got all of them and play them pretty much year round, just to get a lift from my favorite rock musicians.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Selection of Great Songs
This ol' rock 'n' roller enjoyed this album on cassette tape until the darn thing self-destructed this past Christmas season. So I got the CD right away, and it was like hearing them for the first time all over again. My personal favorite is Bob Seger's version of The Little Drummer Boy.He does his usual awesome best on this reverent song and doesn't hurt it one little bit.All the tracks are good.I'm no fan of Run DMC, but I can even listen to this one without thinking "rap-#@**!!"That's just me.Overall, I rate this CD five stars.I listen to Christmas music off and on throughout the year and a little more often in mid-spring when it's much more likely that Jesus was born.Hint: NO shepherds are outdoors with their flocks at night during the winter in Israel. It's about the same as trying that in Arkansas.Anyhoo, I enjoy the thing whenever the mood gets me. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly What You'd Expect
This gets five stars. It provides exactly what you would expect. There are 15 tracks with a wide variety of very popular musicians raising money for Special Olympics International. This is a pop album with over half the songs being traditional tunes. There are also non-traditional tracks. The main reason to get this album is that where else would you hear Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, John Cougar Mellenkamp and Sting singing Christmas songs on the same album. It took some real work to get permission from so many artists, producers and record companies to put this album together.

    Editorial Review

There's a long tradition of artists banding together for a noble cause, but--needless to say--good intentions are no guarantee of good art. Fortunately, the twain do meet and the project even succeeds with creative flair in this compilation. It kicked off the Red Hot AIDS Benefit series back in 1990 and in fact launched its own sort of minigenre, including theme albums devoted to George Gershwin and Duke Ellington. In fact, this eclectic mix of Cole Porter covers interpreted by a wide swath of contemporary artists unfurls a pretty ambitious agenda in addition to its message of AIDS awareness and compassion. Here, the legacy of this ultra-sophisticated, closeted master of the popular song from the era of the "lost generation" is presented as a source of rejuvenating inspiration. Porter's craft seems validated by the very flexibility of the original songs as they get retrofitted to encompass styles ranging from U2 and Tom Waits to Jungle Brothers. There's an occasional miscalculation (Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop's didactic "updating" of Porter's bon vivant wit doesn't compare well with the original), but moments of stunning fusion abound (Sinéad O'Connor and Annie Lenox contribute especially memorable gems). 4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting tribute developing now it's own classic status.
The beautiful elements of all Porter's work are that the songs he penned are elegant, witty, refreshingly verbose, timeless and can, in effect, be sung by anyone to anyone. They are loving, sexy and sexless at once; which reveals much about the great man's character and genius.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous blended with the sublime
I am going to load this CD on my computer so that I can delete half of the tracks.Whoever had the bright idea of having someone rap out Cole Porter songs must've been on drugs. Cole Porter songs are known for their polished lyrics.Having hip-hop artists add what they think of as poetry is a travesty.

A collection of well-known pop tunes, this record documents those ubiquitous tracks that have been played into the ground at nearly every sports facility in the country. Most, like "Whoomp! There It Is" and "Hip Hop Hooray," are undeniably catchy, and other tracks were downright splendid when they first appeared on the scene. Some even credit "Pump Up the Volume" with being a breakthrough for the electronic music scene of the late '80s and early '90s. Still, bringing musical innovation to light is not what the makers of this recording had in mind. It's all about the trashy glitz, fleeting glories, and mindless greed of late-20-century American sports. Revel in its dubious charms, and risk having your brains turn to mush while a permanent grin takes over your face. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Whooooooooooomp! Here's the review!
Tell-Tale Bonanza's back again!!I'm a total jock if you already didn't know, my resume speaks for itself. This cd is not only great for sporting events, but works well at any social gathering. There's just something that is beautiful about seeing Lupus Fury do the tootsie roll.Let me tell you a little bit about Lupus Fury. You may be wondering how he got such a nick-name, well let me break it down for you... Lupus- is latin for "Wolf"and we all know that he's hairy like a wolf, and stinks like the Cumberland river.Fury- anger, violence, rage.that sums him up right there, the man has 8 restraining orders, and is a registered sex offender (we still laugh about that to this day) So now we know Lupus, a hairy wolf like angered man, don't get near him during a full moon either, he might hump your leg, but he gets more action than teen wolf (thanks to me).Our parties are just a big spectacle, we really do put on a show. When the song "You're Unbelievable oh!!!" comes on,Big Frank will put on a gymnastic routine that will leave you wondering why he wasn't on the olympic squad in 96 (steroids).Chubby Lou is in charge of running the party (there's never a shortage of cheap booze and hot pockets) and doubles as the bouncer, you don't wanna catch one of his famous DDT's, little-known fact, Chubby Lou used to be an amature wrestler (they said he was too fat) and had a stint as Barry Horrowitz tag team partner in 88.Cheese Grits doesn't really have any talent, we just thought he had a cool name so we let him in the clique, but he can juggle, so we get him tanked up and make him juggle by the end of the cd we circle around him and sing along to gary glitters "duh nuh nuh nuh nuh HEY!!! duh nuh nuh nuh!!!!" and so on, he has a look of terror on his face, but it's totally worth it. by that time we settle in, and there's about a 10-3 girl to guy ratio, some of us score real big, whoever is lucky enough to make it to my room, gets to personally here "Gonna make you sweat" by C & C Music Factory. Now that you see the power that this cd holds, I hope you would go and buy it (or steal it from your P.E. teacher, like I did).
