5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!
If you are looking for meditation or tranquility from daily stress I recommend not only this CD, but the entire collection. I have all the Pure Moods collection and keep buying more New Age music. I feel I've invested my money in good music. I listen to pretty much anything from soft music, Rock, Salsa, Calypso to Dance-Techno music, but when I don't feel like listening to loud music, I listen to these CD collection, specially on a Sunday to reconnect with relaxation to start another heavy woking week. Also, if you like gospel, I'm sure you'll love these even though is not quite gospel music. You just reconnect yourself spiritually in this material world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This original Pure Moods CD is a great CD.I think all 4 CDs in this series (so far) are good but none are as complete as this CD is.Though there are many different "new age" styles on this CD it still manages to work fine. From the beginning with Enigma (you can't go wrong with Enigma) to Miram Stockley's heavenly voice(s) in "Adiemus" to the sexy sax of Candy Dulfer in "Lily was Here" you can't go wrong with this CD.The other Pure Moods are also worth a listen as well as "Levitation" by Digital Moodz and the 2 Relax CD's from Blank and Jones.

"The innocence of my life releases the God I love everywhere." These are the words of Rumi, 13th-century poet and founder of the Whirling Dervishes of Sufism, as spoken by the mature and melodious voice of Rosa Parks. 5-0 out of 5 stars Embracing Rumi's Thought
The soundtrack of Aparna Sen's "Mr. and Mrs. Iyer" introduced me to the 10th century poet saint, Jalaluddin Rumi.I was so impressed with, "Kithe Meher Ali..." (lyrics in Hindi inspired by Rumi's work) that I immediately set out to buy his work. However, each time I tried to read the poetry, I was at loss of the lesson. As it sat on my book shelf for several years, I returned back to it recently to meet with the similar fate.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Gift Of Love!
This CD is an absolute joy to listen to! It thrills your senses. It makes your skin tingle. It opens your heart to love, brings you closer to God, the universe and all beings. 5-0 out of 5 stars I am the God
Rumi that we call him Molavi is a Dervish, who found everything in himself and love to the whole not to the single. He did not believed in any rules. His rules were his love to the world, to himself and us. All he just wanted to say is that there is something more than a materialistic life. Everybody who has not a background of the spiritual life especially in middle eastern countries will think of these poems as love to human, but Molavi believes that love is everything, and he himself is the God. When he says that God is here, just in me, it means that there is no conflict between loving myself and loving you. It is the same, we all love the same thing,God which is the whole existence of the world, everything you can imagine. Thanks to this team that tried to show the westerns that there is something more than fashion and this materialistic life. There are people who just live with their pure love to themselves and the whole and nothing more, and they are the happiest people in the world. Because they believe in that. I really loved this music, it reminded me of my country and my people and my history. Everytime I am trying to release myself from this prison which everybody is obliged to live in here, I listen to these gnostic songs. I am afraid that there is no special word for Erfan in English! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best-listen to this Year-Round and experience the Joy of Thankfulness...
Simply one of the best & most original of the Windham Hill compilations, and I'm very glad Windham Hill thought to release this one. Just as close to perfect as they come, and the only way it could have been any better was to have had a contribution by the always original arrangements & compositions of Barbara Higbee, (or Fred Simon) but perhaps they were not available at the time. Of course, in a compilation like this, you need to have "We Gather Together Together..." but it is particularly touching to hear veteran Paul McCandless' arrangement to open the disc and set a thankful & comforting tone. Tim Story's consistently original & moving here as always, and the true highlight for me is "Amazing Grace" by John Doan. It is "amazing" indeed to hear someone do an original take on this classic hymn which has been recorded by so many, many fine artists over but the many decades of music-recording history. Leave it to Doan and to Dawn Atkinson's masterful production experience & background to pull this off so well. Will Ackerman's "The Gathering" is a typically original piece, very listenable year-round, and Carlos Nakai is a welcome addition with a peaceful cedar flute offering. Finally, (and really, there are so many gems here...) Lisa Lynne adds a sort of Majestic Joyfulness to "Allelujah", which certainly blows the dust off of this great hymn tune, bringing new life to such an often heard melody. Like the very best of the "Solstice" collections, this is a perfectly appropriate collection to hear year round. For example, I have listened to it on Independence Day, and found it strangely perfect for refection on our American roots that gave birth to many of these hymns, and to the spirit of creativity that our Founding Parents passed on to us in America. Simply perfect, Windham.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Sentimental Reflection
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on friends, family, and blessings. At this time of year, we celebrate our families, we think of those who are less fortunate, and we reflect on the solemnity of the season and what it means to be truly thankful.
5-0 out of 5 stars WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT
For most of us, Thanksgiving confronts us with a variety of emotions.Gratefulness should be the primary one; unfortunately getting stressed out and bent out of shape can overtake all the best intentions.Everything from complicated and hurried preparations to being cooped up with unpleasant relatives can ruin the occasion. Some of us endure Thanksgiving alone or practically alone in that those dearest are far away. For a holiday that can mean so much, a lot can go wrong.Read more

What a marvelous collection of mesmerizing music this is. I have been listening to this album all week, as I can't get it out of my head. Pure Moods are one my favorite collections as they bring awareness of similar music that goes together so well. The beauty of this album is the mix of music that evokes a certain mood, while not sounding all too similar.

By turns mournful and mystical, these 14 Celtic lullabies performed by musicians from around the world give voice to the experience of mother and child in haunting, evocative folk songs. "More often than not," veteran Irish singer Nóirín Ní Riain writes in the liner notes, "a true lullaby is more indicative of the mental state of the mother than of her wish to lull her child to sleep, and so often her frustrations find a legitimate voice through song." 4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely celtic lullabies
I bought this along with "Golden slumbers: a father's lullaby" for my baby. All in all I prefer this CD much more over the Golden slumbers CD, which is very Musak-y. Celtic Twilight, Vol 3has lovely celtic/folksy songs that I would listen to any time of day, not just for falling asleep. The songs are mostly about mothers' feelings for their babies, from what I can tell by the lyrics. Some are very touching, and others soothing to listen to.I highly recommend this album if you like celitc music and/or folk tunes.

Pure Moods volume 3 is probably the second best in the series after the original Pure Moods. With mainstays such as Yanni and Enigma how can you go wrong?Powerful tracks like "Deliver Me" from Sarah Brightman and Peter Gabriel's "Games without Frontiers" highlight this release. As with the rest of the Pure Moods series this is very good and worthy of repeat listenings.Other great CD's include Imogen Heap, any Digital Moodz CD and Enigma's 1st CD or LSD.

Windham Hill initially gained a sterling reputation throughexquisitely recorded and played instrumental guitar albums. The labelnow commemorates 25 years of recording by picking the cream of itscrop. A great harvest it is, too! Founder Will Ackermanrerecords the early "The Impeding Death of the Virgin Spirit." Then there's Alex De Grassi'sgentle pyrotechnics and Doyle Dykes's jazzyinflections. Together, they've truly expanded the boundaries ofacoustic-guitar playing--an effort that may have reached its zenithwith the late Michael Hedges. His"Aerial Boundaries" remains a tour de force, while his live duet withbassist MichaelManring--"Rikki's Shuffle"--shows the synergy between two great musicians.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Masterfull & Wonderful!
This album has quickly become one of my favorite instrumental albums.Long a fan of the Windham-Hill label, I'm of the opinion that this compilation offers some of the best guitar music around. This CD is masterful and richly rewarding. It contains some of the most soothing instrumental music recorded, and as one other reviewer aptly put it, it's a great stress reducer. The cuts from the masters Ackerman, deGrassi and Hedges are wonderful as any WH fan over the years has come to appreciate them.My favorite selection is however, Snuffy Walden's "Who Lives Up There".In my opinion it is just the most beautifully written and performed piece of acoustic guitar music period. It is such a technically wonderful recording as well. This cut is worth the price of the CD alone.Another favorite is David Culen's "On the Way".I am not as familiar with his work but I plan to check out other Cullen offerings soon. There is not a misstep on this entire hour-long CD.And to think I almost hesitated buying it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Guaranteed to relax you!
This is THE most relaxing, beautiful CD I've purchased in years. It should have STRESS-BUSTER written across the cover. Three minutes after I hit the "Play" button, I'm off in another realm altogether. If you love acoustic guitar music, you'll treasure this awesome CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars A generous helping of each artist
This is a great commemorative album made up of the music that established Windham Hill.Thankfully, the principal artists are represented by two cuts apiece, making this CD more of a showcase than a sampler.Snuffy Walden got shorted with just his "Who Lives Up There?", but we have Michael Hedges opening the set with "Aerial Boundaries" and ending it with a duet with bassist Michael Manning, "Rikki's Shuffle".Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Seasonal Music
The whole Winters's Solstice Series is really first rate. The different styles of music all complement each other and there are enough traditional holiday songs to make the discs nice for holiday gatherings. My wife and I both love Christmas music, but this series goes beyond the holiday season and we do listen to them until Spring. The Windham Hill Christmas series offers very nice arrangements of the more "traditional" , familiar songs that we also enjoy. I think the best testament is that even though this series goes back 25 + years, it still plays well now. The regular familiar arrangements are nice, but this series offers a pleasant alternative. And, they are priced to buy! Put them on shuffle play on a multi disc changer and you won't have to worry about music for any gathering of good friends, family, food and spirits (Christmas and otherwise...)which is what the season is all about...counting your blessings and enjoying life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite LOVELYfor ALL Seasons...
My first Winter Solstice cd (I started with number 2) & I'm quite impressed! It is completely Instrumental except for a very short beautiful addition of the sound of female voices more like an instrument near the end of one of the selections that adds to it's sweetness.(Normally I do not care for mixing vocals with primarily instrumentals, but this doesn't detract from it at all).I guess you could play this cd in the winter only, but that sure seems like a waste of the opportunity to be soothed year round. The music is reminiscent of the renaissance period & there are no recognizable Christmas tunes (for me anyway). This whole album is perfect for relaxing anytime & will be great at bedtime for me as I usually have trouble winding down to sleep. Overall, I highly Recommend it. There are some very reasonably priced "like new" ones offered by an assortment of sellers here on Amazon (I now have the first cd in this series on the way to me). Peace.

5-0 out of 5 stars The very Best of them all-Still after all these years...
After all the years and all the Winter Solstice/Carols of Christmas?Windham Hill Christmas compilations, this is the one I always come back to. It has the most original material, and because of that, it is one of the few Winter Solstice albums you can honestly listen to in July or January or December. Brilliant improvisations by Philip Aaberg begin, and end this disc. One of Ackerman's awesome harp-guitar pieces, a piece by Barbara Higbee which is one of the only I've heard of her flute performances. And the most poignant moments of all - Fred Simon's Simple Psalm. Very moving piano work, complete with chime effects. Simply awesome. There is literally not a single boring or predictable track on this CD; it is a true masterpiece of astonishingly consistent talent all throughout. Yes the first "Winter Solstice" was very good, but this was actually far beyond perfect. THIS is the CD to start with! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful!
This is a wonderful compilation of songs of the Pagan Heart.I sing these songs with my children and play it in the car on the way to festival.Musical, magickal performances.

5-0 out of 5 stars Magical songs in honor of the Great Earth Mother!
Like with every compilation, some songs will resonate more with the listener than others, but overall, this is a wonderful collection of magical songs celebrating earth-based spirituality. I especially love "The Burning Times", "We Won't Wait Any Longer", "Every Woman Born", and "The Christians and the Pagans". As an activist, I generally prefer music that is more overtly political, but every now and again it's good to pause and contemplate the deeper sources of mystery and power in the world. So, light some candles, scent your bath with ylang-ylang and rose, relax, listen to this beautiful cd and feel the loving warmth of the Goddess envelop you. Blessed be...

4-0 out of 5 stars A Magical Journey Through the Tapestry of Pagan Music History
Upon listening to this CD; I fell in love with many of the tracks. My favorite being We Do Not Die.There are many tracks on this CD that give the listener a very interesting survey of the diverse nature of the evolving nature of Pagan/Wiccan music. Many of the selections have most likely been used by individuals as well as groups to enhance their own ritual experience.I truly thank the many artist who are represented on this CD for having put musically the multitude of expressions it is to be Pagan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great music, no matter what you call it!
As I understand it, some purists would not call this Flamenco music of any kind, but it is wonderful and energizing to listen to nonetheless. The level of virtuosity on guitar displayed on this album is really incredible, and the delightful variety of songs is really nice.As a degreed musician and professional harpist, I have a tremendous respect for the level of musicianship demonstrated on this album. This is my first sampling of "New Flamenco" music, but it certainly will not be my last.A big plus for me is that it is all instrumental, so I'm not tempted to sing along, much to the relief of my fellow bus riders and coworkers!

3-0 out of 5 stars Gypsy Soul is OK
I have other gypsy/flamenco CDs, and purchased this one based on some other reviewers comments (on the other CDs).I prefer the CD Gypsy Passion over this one by a wide margin.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hallelujah Jaleo!
GYPSY SOUL is the wonderful follow-up disc to Narada's earlier release GYPSY PASSION. Together the two discs comprise two of the finest compilations of the "New Flamenco" style heard anywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Voice Transcendant
Only a listen to this incredible and sublime collection with convince noise-weary ears and world-heavy souls of the healing power of the human voice.
5-0 out of 5 stars Profound sound.
Ive had this album for four years, I still listen to it on A weekly basis and never tire of it.It's very soul stirring, the first of the songs kothbiro is the most haunting of all of them.Dala and ondiek are my next favourites.5-0 out of 5 stars Uplifting
I heard this CD when visiting Bogota. I walked into a gallery of the local artists and the music captured my soul.I was so moved by the melodies, I had to find out the title of the CD.The music is transcendent. My favorites are Kothbiro, Ondiek and Sutu Kun, and the invigorating, rythmic Ekbobo. But the best has to be the Wasuze Otya track with the laughter of the singers at the end of the track; you can sense their joy in their songs. The music is so uplifting and premeates with a positive feeling -- you can tell that the singers feel joy in living, and in life through the range of wonderful music;you want to go to their land, and be in their space.Wonderful!!!A must have!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars No words to describe
There are really no other proper words to describe the music on this CD other than to say THE BEST.Haunting, melodious, peaceful, and it brings you a step closer to nature regardless of whether you are sitting inside a room or in your car while listening to the CD. I've become a fan of the Native American culture ever since I heardtheir flute music for the first time. This CD is packed with melodious and haunting sounds of their flutes, the low frequency sounds of their drums which sound like thunder, and to top them all of with a good sprinkling of the chirping of birds and the shrieking sounds of the soaring eagles. The first song "Creator's Prayer" gives you an idea of what to expect in the rest of the CD. Simply the best. The more I listen to the CD, the more addicted I get to the subtle sounds of naturewhich I miss while leading a city life filled with highway noise, cop car sirens, and tv mumbo jumbos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
Absolutely beautiful! I just wish the CD was longer. The songs just carry me away to a peaceful place (especially the first one). I listen to it about every morning when I wake up; that's how good it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trible Winds
This music is great. The best so far. I use it to metatate. I can close my eyes and picture my great-grand father as a child on the reservation and I can see a happy child in the yeay 1866.There isn't much out there to put me in a space of peace. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sam "Sam" stands alone this time...
I've enjoyed all the Winter Solstice collections except the "Winter Solstice on Ice" - now, that's atrocious! No. III is one of my favorites because of the vocals. The version of "In the Bleak Midwinter" is one of the most purely spiritual carols I've ever heard. In fact I'm buying my second copy of this CD today because my first has disappeared.

1-0 out of 5 stars No More Vocals Please !!!!!!!!!!!
I Purchased the Winter Solstice Vol #3 thinking that it would be as good as the rest, was I disappointed. Tracks 5,6,7,10,11.13 are atrocious, the rest of the tracks are good.I cant get to my CD player fast enough to skip over them when they start playing.I now sample every song on the CDs and dont take for granted that all Winter Solstices are created equal.People, please start giving honest reviews and stop the false advertisement.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a great recording
Very distracting rain noises in the background of virtually every track! NOT recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good music
I really enjoy this CD! I do admit that when I first listened to it while driving, I was a little surprised by the few loud thunder bursts and rain drops in a few selections even though I knew that there would be rain in the background of the CD! However it didn't really bother me then or now and I've been playing this CD ever since I received it.It is very easy listening and even the rain storm is soothing. This was a good purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best!
All of the tracks on this CD reflect the very best of the diverse world of New Age music. Not generic or annoying, this collection is soothing and pleasant, creating an ambience of tranquility, just as its title implies. High caliber composing and musical sophistication is evident throughout. Among my extensive new age and ambient collection, this one remains a favorite.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb!
As I find myself "aging gracefully" (hah!), music has become a daily healing necessity. This CD is perfect for anyone seeking tranquility. It is absolutely beautiful, a joy to listen to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Relaxing and yes TRANQUIL
I loved this CD! It is a great CD for those who like to listen to classical music, but not the regular classics with screeching violins and loud orchestras. This CD has beautiful melodies that are great to go to sleep to or wake up to or sit in the bath tub and listen to.It's wonderful, listen to it if you need to sit back and relax. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What's Your Favorite Selection?
This CD was originally created to go along with Neale Donald Walsch's book by the same name.Whether or not you read or agree with the book is completely up to the individual listener. The CD speaks for itself, and it does so eloquently. It is a compilation of New Age music crafted into a CD that creates a soothing, relaxation enhancing back drop. And the appeal isn't limited to New Age fans.My grandparents use this CD for background during their bridge parties and book club meetings. My best friend puts it on at night for her newborn baby.Even my New Age hostile mother never argues when I slip this CD on the player. 5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully compiled
I love the music of Windham Hill, and this disc is no exception!Compiled from 14 different artists, each and every track is incredibly beautiful. The White Spirit (track #13) by Uman is evocative and Reflection (track # 6) by Oystein Sevag is just one of those songs that transports you.5-0 out of 5 stars Conversations With God/A Must-Have CD

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALBUM. I LISTEN TO ALL KINDS OF MUSIC FROM HEAVY METAL TO NEW AGE MUSIC AND THIS IS IN MY TOP FIVE.THE MUSICIANSHIP IS OUTSTANDING. THE MELLOW TONES AND SOOTHING RYTHEMS ARE SPECTACULAR. SUN AND WATER IS PROBABLY MY FAVORITE ON THE ALBUM. I'VE BOUGHT THIS ALBUM THREE TIMES SINCE 1984 WHEN IT CAME OUT AND SOMETHING WILL ALWAYS HAPPEN TO IT. I WAS AFRAID THAT I WOULDN'T EVER HEAR IT AGAIN BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF STOCK. BUT HERE IT IS! AND NOW I WILL OWN IT FOR THE FOURTH. IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO THIS COPY, I'M SURE I WILL BUY IT AGAIN.BUT IF YOUR A FAN OF ACOUSTIC GUITAR(THERE ARE A FEW ELECTIC TOO), THIS IS THE ALBUM FOR YOU.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best samplers by Windham Hill
All of the tracks on this album are simply magnificent, as evidenced by the previous reviewers. This album introduced me to some of the best guitar players out there, such as Bill Mize and Andrew York; their pieces on this album ("Silverplume Waltz" and "Andecy") are kings among equals here. My favourite track though is a choice between "No City Lights" and "The Hanging Down".
