5-0 out of 5 stars New album, new sound
Like some other reviewers, the more I listen to this CD the more I like it. I found it to be a good CD to listen to for relaxation and exercising the imagination. Few tracks are memorable, but I felt it was all worth it for Goodbye Milky Way and Sitting on the Moon. I really like how Enigma creates a different sound and mood for each of their albums. I know of some music artists who never do that, and each album they come out with is predictable and the same. With Enigma, I always look forward to their releases because I know they'll have some new surprises.

4-0 out of 5 stars Give it Time
I completely agree with ROCKET's review. At first I said, "ehh, its OK." But as I listened again and again--with a good sound system--I was addicted. I still feel its not as good as their first four albums, but definitely better than their last.

2-0 out of 5 stars This is not the best CD
Enigma always was enigma bcause of this samples enigmatics ,gregorians ,africans voices ,thats why enigma was good ,this is not enigma music this is eurodance or trance or what ever and enigma is not the king in this type of music ,so I dont think this is a good Enigma's CD ,I think this is a little better than Voyageur CD ,but is not enigma anymore .the must beautiful song is Goodbye Milky way .. the music is not bad at all ,but it is not enigma's music .this is a different thing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Ukulele Virtuoso
OK, there are 2 words I never, ever though I would use together. Virtuoso and ukulele. That is, until I heard "Gently Weeps".This disc is simply amazing.I heard Scott Simon on NPR's Weekend Edition talking to Jake, and what I heard intrigued me enough to gamble and spend the $$ for this disc.I figured, what I heard was good, and if the uke was a good enough instrument for George Harrison then it was going to be OK.Man, was I surprised at what was coming through my speakers. This man is one of the most incredible musicians I have ever heard. The songs he covers, especially his versions of "While my Guitar Gently Weeps","Misty", "Spain" and "Ave Maria" are some of the best versions anywhere anytime.Half of the disc is original compositions, which are absolutely beautiful.Of special interest are the bonus songs, here Jake plays with other musicians and is able to concentrate on creating fluid lead lines instead of creating both rhythm and lead as he does when he plays solo ukulele.
5-0 out of 5 stars His Royal Highness
    One word: wow.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks, Jake
Jake Shimabukuro has done it again.A good, solid collection of tunes which show his talents well.I am especially happy to have the Star Spangled Banner with this album.

5-0 out of 5 stars NICE & RELAXING
When he was here last week in Richmond, he said his intention was to help the listener escape; I think he has accomplished that very well.Got an opportunity to hear other songs from previous CDs (live requests); this is an artist well worth listening to.You can feel him in his work. This CD will take you away.Be sure to buy his greatest hits as well.

    5-0 out of 5 stars ESCAPE.....It's Perfect!
This is the first original CD of solo piano music in three years from Jim Brickman. And it was well worth the wait. Once again, he has managed to touch our hearts and souls with his graceful melodies. This CD does truly allow you to ESCAPE...even if only for a little while, the hectic pace of everyday life of cell phones, pagers, iPods, Blackberries, palm pilots, etc, etc, etc. From Waterfall to Hideaway to My Angel.....I canrelax, soothe my soul and come back to the real world and face the day ahead of me. From the solo piano pieces to the vocal collaberations, there is something for everyone on this album. It is definately a must have.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Another Winner in a Lush Romantic Style ... Escape (2006) ... Jim Brickman"
Savoy Music Group presents "ESCAPE", as this captures Jim Brickman's talent with special appearances by Sara Evans (the Academy of Country Music's "Female Vocalist of the Year" for 2006), R&B vocal star Gerald Levert and smooth jazz guitarist extraordinaire Marc Antoine --- the composer and pianist Brickman has come up with another winner in a lush and romantic instrumental and vocal ballads --- the word enchanting comes to mind, featuring selections "MY ANGEL", "AWAKENING", "BARCELONA", "BIG SKY", "FIRST LIGHT", "PARADISE", "TIMELESS" and "WATERFALL" --- each with Brickman's beautiful light jazz rhythmic signature style.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good music but is the worst packaging I've ever seen!
This follow-up recording from the Mannheim Steamroller Halloween is very well done. You can defintely tell this was produced by Chip Davis and the Steamroller folks. I didn't care too much for the vocals on several tracks. It almost sounds like the Steamroller is trying too hard to be hip and creepy. As an addition to your MS library and as a fun Halloween recording, it is great.
4-0 out of 5 stars Halloween Party
As another reviewer said, this release is better than the first (which I also liked, but did overrate initially) because the focus is on popular music associated with Halloween rather than on "scary" classical music. The amount of vocals works very well - it must be kept in mind that Chip Davis actually got his first big break through novelty country songs, and so it should not be surprising that he can do great Steamroller arrangements even with fairly straightforward vocals. Some tracks are better than others (again, I have to agree that the Davis originals are among the weakest, though the Trafik Techno Remix of Creatures of the Night is fantastic) but overall it's a fun Halloween party album.Listening to the sound samples should tell you if this will be your cup of tea or not.Just keep in mind this is designed for a fun Halloween party rather than as something to scare you. ... Who can fault an artist who so clearly embraces a one-planet, one-people worldview? Someone who recruits guest instrumentalists from every hemisphere to underscore his fondness for multiculturalism and convey his wish for global harmony? You can't help but admire Yanni, the Greek keyboardist/composer, even while acknowledging such nobility does not always translate into deeply satisfying music. On this, the audio-only component of his third made-for-television concert production (filmed in 2005 in Las Vegas), Yanni continues in his adopted role of True Egalitarian, playing a few bars to open a piece, then fading into the background to let other musicians (on violin, trumpet, sax, didgeridoo, hammer dulcimer, even keyboards) command the music's flow. A lovely gesture, but one that often results in extended soloing that sidetracks, even derails, the focus of the music. (Consider "Playtime," where Ming Freeman plays the jazzy piano solo, and the disc's previously unreleased track, "The Storm," pairing violinists Samvel Yervinyan and Sayaka Katsuki in a showy duet that is reminiscent of something from Bond.) Thus while the musicianship is first-rate, the production is superb, and some tracks are terrific (too bad "Standing in Motion" fades out so quickly), this disc is more about the jamming and less about staying on compositional task. Likely this project will be better appreciated in its DVD version, where the staging and artist interaction is on display. Meanwhile, some longtime fans may be left yearning for a day when Yanni will step up to his keyboards, drop the hammer, and let his own muse rock. Read more

The passion you see and feel in Yanni and his music touches you like no other. I especially enjoyed the way he incorporated the singers as part of the whole sound. As a lot of music the instruments take a backseat to the vocalist. This DVD is incredible! Buy 2 because you'll wear out the first one!

4-0 out of 5 stars Typical Enya!
Amarantine would make a great name for a girl. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some named Amarantine by now. Enya has the power to make you feel like you're in a higher place than you actually are. When you hear her sing, you feel like you're on top of a mountain overlooking the views. Her music does that to me. It makes think of aspiring to something higher than reality. Thank God, Enya's voice is like that of an angel on earth. I love all her compact discs but this one is alright but as long as it's Enya, I will buy it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not her best, alas
I first heard "Orinoco Flow" in a department store at the tender age of twelve, and have been bewitched ever since by the sheer magic of Enya's music. I can think of no singer I admire or love more and, with the possible exception of Loreena McKennitt, no one whose music can touch so many different emotions. So I was thrilled when "Amarantine" was released, and popped it into my CD player the first chance I got, expecting to be bewitched again. And it truly saddens me to say that I wasn't.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Book of Days!
The Book of Days is one of my favorite songs ever. I can replay it constantly without being bored or tired from it. I feel energized and raring to go do something creative. Listening to Enya music has that effect on me. It's like a spiritual awakening listening to her. You begin to believe that there are other important issues out there in the universe. Listening to Enya whether you are driving your car or in yoga class is therapeutic at times. You feel like you are listening to a choir of angels and can't believe it is just once voice.

5-0 out of 5 stars A brief comment
A good friend turned me on to Enya, whose songs I had enjoyed but had never connected with her name. The sonorous melodies and rhythms along with the ethereal quality of the choruses give many of the songs a haunting quality like no other contemporary artist. Her music is about as far from the ever popular hip hop as you can possibly get, recalling the art song of classical composers rather than the contemporary pop scene. I really appreciate Enya and hope this is just one of many more best of Enya albums to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I have expected
This CD is exactly what I have expected when ordering it.

5-0 out of 5 stars In passing he gave us his best.!
Ali Farke Toure is to African music and blues what The Beatles are to Rock and Roll, what Mario Lanza is to Opera (sorry pavarotti), what Vicente Fernandez is to mexico. I love his music and have almost all his albums. I have read many opinions wherin people mention what album or albums(s) are his best. I will tell this, as amazing as some of his previous works are, none are better than this! If you like or love anything Ali Farke Toure has ever done, you need this disc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Farewell, Brave Friend
One of the incredible tragedies in Music this year is the passing of Ali Farka Toure. It is impossible to exagerate his importance to African, Malian, Blues, World musics. He is as seminal figure as anyone in any discipline. Last year he recorded the mystically beautiful IN THE HEART OF THE MOONwith Toumani Diabete, and this record as well as Diabete's magical SYMMETRY ORCHESTRA recording just out were recorded nearly simultaneously in the same hotel as the MOON sessions.
5-0 out of 5 stars More than a summation of a career
I agree with the earlier reviewers' 5-star ratings, but for slightly different reasons.Especially if one compares it to Niafunke (1999), Toure's "back to his roots" album, Savane both retains the earlier album's live, desert-dry quality and pushes these centuries-old song structures in intriguing new directions--but doing so without altering those structures.Certain songs, such as "Erdi" and "Ledi Coumbe," sound as though they could be a staking out of new possibilities for Malian music while remaining true to its firm, resiliant foundations.

This CD has a great collection of enigma songs. But the sound quality really is very bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF A KIND
This album is a CD that's alive with its own heartbeat, breathing rhythms, and soul which cannot go unnoticed even by the casual listener.Enigma The Greatest Hits with its "enigmatic" title "L S D, Love, Sensuality, Devotion" includes one track, "Sadeness [Part 1]" which hearkens to the time in the early 90s of "Moodfood" by Moodswings, taking one back to a time all its own.Couldn't get enough of this then, and it has me in its grips once more. The tracks are nice & long and beautifully melt into each other. It's timeless and a guaranteed winner for a new listener as well as the connoisseurs of this genre. You'll give your system's "repeat" function a workout with this one! This is all things beautiful somehow placed onto a piece of plastic.
5-0 out of 5 stars mesmerizing
Got hold of this album by chance a few years after it came out. Had no idea what new age music was back then. It was still only available on the cassette tape format. But I loved it at first hearing. This was Christmastime and I was just looking for something to be played during the holiday season. Little did I imagine that this album would be among my most treasured few. Perhaps even my most listened to. And things got even better when I got it on CD. Finally, in around 2002, I got my copy of the 20th Anniversary Edition -with two bonus tracks, to my delight! After all this time, I'm just glad I stumbled upon this gem by George Winston. The soothing quality of this music is incredible. It's like meditation -you take in the music, and all the while it's like listening to forty minutes worth of glorious silence. Truly mesmerizing.

5-0 out of 5 stars The dawn to the holidays
George Winston's "December" is a rare gem, even amongst his excellent albums. The treat lies not only in his sublime renditions of instrumental classics, but also within the order of the songs.

As each new Enya release has washed over all who have ears to hear, as each heaven-touched work leaves admirers sitting speechless in slack-jawed wonder, questions eventually come to mind: Might her layered, choral-like approach gradually become predictable or stale? Will she ever exhaust her deep reservoir of soul-stirring ideas? Remarkably, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Contrary to any other neg Reviews, this CD is Beautiful!!
While most reviews here are agreeing, I've read a few others that diminish this work of A Day Without Rain. I say, that unless you are detached from your Heart energy element within, you will find one of the best pieces of musical work and melody here from Enya. Very spiritual in some qualities, and one of her best releases in my experience of listening.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pop goes Enya
For all her mystical etherial talent, this recorcing is all-American pop at its poorest...Cliche lyrics, choppy tempos, flat artistry. Perhaps she finds it novel to sing in english, but this cd is nothing like her earlier beautiful work...If you're an original Enya fan, this isnt it.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Enya albums
I hesistated to buy this album since I have so much of her music all ready; however, I was not disappointed in the least. I expected some repetitious sound, and there are examples of her signature sounds but that doesn't bother me. She has a way of making something similar sound new and different. It's so relaxing and that's what I need after a busy day. I don't know how anyone could rate this lovely album poorly. I have almost every CD Enya has ever done and this is one of my favorites.I like it better than 'Amarantine.' I love quiet calm music with a hint of celtic. Enya is definitely my favorite musician/singer of all time. I used to love Yanni but he has become too commercial for me. I can even tolerate Enya made to elevator music. She is who she is and I love her music. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sing Away! Sing Away!
Enya has a remarkable voice and range. Her music is not for everybody but it is for me. I feel like I'm being raised up to a higher level spiritually playing this collection. She has a voice that is like a heavenly choir of angels. She doesn't neglect her Celtic background neither and pays homage to her roots by singing Celtic songs. There are might be other singers out there but there is only one Enya and she continues to redefine herself and her music through the years.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Enya- Of course it's beautiful!
Wonderful, relaxing, and beautiful. But we've all come to expect that from Enya's music. Absolutely fantastic!! One of the most beautiful voices around!

    2-0 out of 5 stars Hallo-wha?
Let me start by saying I've never listened to Steamroller before picking this up. I am a big fan of Halloween and have quite a collection of music/sound fx so naturally, this was a must buy when I saw it.
5-0 out of 5 stars An interest take on the usual
I wasn't sure what I'd think of this from reading other reviews, but I really did like it.I'm not really familiar with Mannheim's other stuff (but if the rest of the Autumn cd is anything like Harvest Dance, I'm looking forward to getting it), so I didn't have any preconceived ideas.I have a lot of the classical pieces on other cds, but I like the different twist given to them here. And I did like the sound effect cd.Nicely spooky (I have enough other sound effects cds with screaming and muching ghouls, etc).

2-0 out of 5 stars Could have been great but . . .
As a big Steamroller fan, perhaps my hopes were set a little too high.I envisioned more original music (perhaps a more scarier vibe than the silly one this CD has to it) and maybe a few covered tunes.Chips originals (from the Fresh Aire series)found on this CD outshine the weak efforts put forth on the covered and rearranged tracks. The sound effects disc sets a great(and creepy)mood, that should had been followed through with some new and equally scary compositions.

Mixing a variety of styles with a Celtic base, this was McKennitt's breakthrough album and remains one of her most musically interesting. "All Souls Night" begins the album, with dance-like rhythms and McKennitt's wonderful voice singing about the Celtic New Year. Other features include a musical setting of Tennyson's "Lady of Shalott", which, while not as sophisticated as Noyes' "The Highwayman" on Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars REally good
I have been listening to Loreena Mckennitt my whole life, since my mother used to play her music when I was a little girl. Since that time, I have grown to love her music, and have collected a large number of her CDs. When I got this one, I was really excited, and I'm glad that I did.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ms. McKennitt is a talent worthy of world recognition
Lorennas talent for writing and collaboration with world artists is amazing. The beautiful Haunting Celtic manifestations you hear on this album will send you into another world of imagination and dreaming. Simply magnificent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Haunting... mesmerizing
Loreena's voice on this and every album is amazing - so perfectly suited to Celtic music. The first song I ever heard her sing was "The Lady of Shalott" (played on public radio in NC).I had to stop the car and close my eyes!Buy this album and every other album of hers - I'd be VERY surprised if you were the slightest bit disappointed. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Moon Trekin'... Is The Shiznit
I do kinda agree with the last reviewer that Paul Hardcastle's music is a bit mundane but THAT is just Paul Hardcastle's style and honestly I wouldn't expect him to change a thing because his style is what defines him and when you hear it you automatically know without question who it is and I love Paul's flavor. It's a beautiful unique blend that consists of futuristic keyboard sounds along with flutes and saxophone.
1-0 out of 5 stars Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Same old sound, same old arrangements, same old beats. Nothing new here. Paul's sound is becoming quite mundane and boring. Stick with Jazzmasters 1, 2 & 4 and call it a day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hardcastle's Musical Garden Of Eden
Warm sunshine...a cool breeze...splashing waves on the beach...these are the images that come to my mind when I listen to the magical smooth grooves of Paul Hardcastle. Paul is back with his latest release, "Jazzmasters V," and it's yet another in a long line of outstanding albums from this multi-talented studio wizard. Track for track it is gorgeous, hypnotic smooth jazz of the highest order. It's mostly an instrumental album, but Paul's longtime vocalist Helen Rogers is back to lend her soulful voice to three amazing tracks: the brilliant cover of "Children Of The Ghetto" (originally recorded by the UK act The Real Thing), and the equally dreamy "Garden Of Eden" and "Live For The Dream." Stunning instrumental pieces include "Never Far Away," "Free As The Wind," "The Sun Says Goodbye," and Paul's very first "epic" smooth-jazz piece, "World In Action," which clocks in at nearly 11 minutes and is simply marvelous. Saxophonist Snake Davis makes excellent contributions throughout, and the album's sound is sparkling & shiny. I just can't get enough of Paul Hardcastle's awesome music---"Jazzmasters V" is wonderful stuff. (Now, if we can just convince Paul to get out of the studio and do a tour...I'd be there for him in a second!) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mike Patton does quality porn music?
Am trying to work out how to describe this record but I can't think of anything better than a genre based around how the soundtrack would be on a quality porn movie, not that I'd know, but it's sort of like a very slick, sexy grindy sound which is really seductive.Might sound silly but what he has acheived is a loungey sort of feel, with a very sexy sort of sound - lots of huge bass and beat noises and so on.Definitely not the sort of thing radio will flock to, but not a revisiting of the rock or heavier stuff he's done with FNM or Tomahawk etc...
4-0 out of 5 stars Mike Patton excellence
Definately some of Mike Patton's best work this side of Epic.I highly recommend this CD to those that like mixed work CD's and explorations of technique and electronica. For the price this CD really can't be beat.

4-0 out of 5 stars valid
One of my favorite films of all time is Peeping Tom. Michael Powell is one of the great directors of all time. It's funny that the closely named Mike Patton has used this name for his new project. It is a big collaboration with many people that Patton has never met. The first track "Five Seconds" is much like Faith No More and features Odd Nosdam. Other people who show up on this are Dan The Automator and Amon Tobin. I am a big Kool Keith fan. So the song "Getaway" reminds me a little of Black Elvis and Prodigy. Good stuff. I also like "Kill The DJ" with Massive Attack. It's a little like some stuff off of 100th Window. Other people who show up on this are Kid Koala, Bebel Gilberto, and even Norah Jones. It's a sort of record that shows who are Patton's friends. It's all pretty good, but unlike some of his recent material. It's a valid statement. ... Read more
