5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Christmas Albums ever!!
There's alot of people you like their regular music, but they come out with a christmas album and its just not up to par. Hardly the case with James Taylor- he never ceases to make wonderful music and take old songs and put his twist to it. This is one of the few Christmas albums that I love that is only by one person- it has such a mellow, stay at home with the family and fire type sound to it. You won't be disappointed!

4-0 out of 5 stars Gorilla in a Santa Hat
This is essentially the same release as the 2004 "James Taylor: A Christmas Album," which was sold exclusively through Hallmark Stores and online for a limited time. However, this one includes "River" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," which may not have been on the Hallmark disc but WAS a bonus track on limited editions of "October Road" in 2002.The track selection is all record company hocus-pocus.The important thing is that this is James Taylor singin' some Christmas favorites, and if that doesn't put you in a more cheerful holiday spirit you're truly an incurable cold-blooded Grinch. It's one of the best holiday releases I've ever heard by anyone, and I've been around since Christmas was invented, I think. This is a can't-go-wrong purchase. Nice album cover shot, too. Nice scarf, JT.Luv yah.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exquisite - the True Spirit of Christmas
If you adore James Taylor then this is a must-have. His voice is velvet, his humor with Natalie Cole is adorable. In this world of negativity give yourself a break... pop this in,crank up the gas fireplace, sit back and find a small moment of joy."Who Comes This Night" is an extremely good listen...the background singers evoke fond memories of days gone by...the strings uplift you."Auld Lang Syne" will have you pining for friends that you almost forgot. If you normally find Christmas albums untimely and boring, this album is definitely worth a listen. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic, eclectic Holiday album....
I really am enjoying this album. There is a great variety of tunes here, from traditional to contemporary and even some rare gems.My favorite, as with most people, is the holiday version of "From A Distance."It's enchanting. The duet with Johnny Mathis on "Winter Wonderland/Let It Snow!Let It Snow!Let It Snow!" is also amazing. In "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" I was originally a bit disappointed when she used the peppier "Hang a shining star upon the highest bow," instead of using the original, sadder, "Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow".However, for the second time around at the end of the song she used the original and darker lyrics. What a way to settle the debate!
5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT new Christmas album!
What a treat this album is!Great tunes!Well produced!Bette's in wonderful voice! Some of the highlights are "Mele Kalikimaka" (a rare, fun song and classic Bette), "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" and a great duet with Johnny Mathis. The new Christmas version of "From a Distance" is wonderful; surprisingly arranged and actually quite moving.I just love this album and plan on giving it to several people this Christmas!Thank you, Bette!

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Holiday Classic!
After nearly 40 years in show business recording 20 albums with 23 chart topping hits, Bette Midler has finally recorded a long overdue holiday album and she doesn't disappoint.

If you thrill to the soaring operatic voices of The Three Tenors (and imagine every Christmas comes with its own orchestral majesty), Il Divo has made this disc for you. 5-0 out of 5 stars Trick Or Treat
This is a great and smart collection. Just look at the selection of songs you get, Monster Mash, Ghostbusters, Purple People Eater, The Addams family theme, Twilight Zone and my new favorite The Martian Hop. I never heard the Martian Hop before even though it's from the early 1960s, pretty catchy song. It's a great cd and unlike other compilations that have movie themes this one has the actual real legit songs. That's the real Monster Mash song by Bobby Picket, that's the real beginning to the Addams Family show and that's the real RayParker Jr. singing Ghostbusters. It would be nice if they had more songs but you'll still be glad you bought this cd when you have company over for a party come October or Halloween Night.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Music Sung by the People that Made them Great!
A CD of fun, & silly Halloween music that you can enjoy because it's the recordings of the original singers, not the original singers brother's cousin's hairdresser's aunt.If you like Dr Demento type music, then you'll love this! My kids enjoy it as well. The 2 best songs are of course, Monster Mash and Martian Hop.Give it a try!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good music but is the worst packaging I've ever seen!
This follow-up recording from the Mannheim Steamroller Halloween is very well done. You can defintely tell this was produced by Chip Davis and the Steamroller folks. I didn't care too much for the vocals on several tracks. It almost sounds like the Steamroller is trying too hard to be hip and creepy. As an addition to your MS library and as a fun Halloween recording, it is great.
4-0 out of 5 stars Halloween Party
As another reviewer said, this release is better than the first (which I also liked, but did overrate initially) because the focus is on popular music associated with Halloween rather than on "scary" classical music. The amount of vocals works very well - it must be kept in mind that Chip Davis actually got his first big break through novelty country songs, and so it should not be surprising that he can do great Steamroller arrangements even with fairly straightforward vocals. Some tracks are better than others (again, I have to agree that the Davis originals are among the weakest, though the Trafik Techno Remix of Creatures of the Night is fantastic) but overall it's a fun Halloween party album.Listening to the sound samples should tell you if this will be your cup of tea or not.Just keep in mind this is designed for a fun Halloween party rather than as something to scare you. ... Gold assembled a handful of knowns and unknowns to make special cameos on this melodic and fun collection of original and classic Halloween tunes with a pop-rock bent. Among the haunted are David Cassidy, Karla Bonoff, Linda Ronstadt, Stephen Bishop, Nicolette Larson, and Gold's children and wife. From the Beatlesesque touches of "It Must Be Halloween" (parts seemingly lifted from "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite") to Boris Karloff's "Monster Mash" and "The Addams Family" theme song, Gold and company offer up treats that kids and their parents will like, including the "Ghostbusters" theme. But with cooler original fare like "The Creature from the Tub" and "Spooky, Scary Skeletons," you have to wonder why they relied on so many predictable cover songs. Read more

This CD got much play all through the Christmas season and for a few months after, until I finally put it away.I anticipate bringing it back out again in November!I have about 5 absoulute favorites on the song and the rest are all very good.Sometimes I just have to stop what I'm doing and close my eyes and listen, it is that good.I think I played this on a walkman with earphones about a zillion times, really getting such an excellent closeup sound.I very highly recommend this CD!!

There are 2 songs in this collection that are absolutely INCREDIBLE!Those 2 songs are "Mary, Did You Know" and "Don't Save it all for Christmas Day"However, these songs aside, this CD is just OK.I mean, Clay Aiken has a good voice and all, but, in my opinion, he doesn't shine on here the way he did on his "Measure of a Man" cd.The songs just come off as a little boring actually. And I love Christmas music. You know what, though, before anyone gets mad and threatens me :o Clay Aiken is still a great singer and I know that all of his die-hard fans will love this CD. (They actually probably own it already)I give it a slight recommendation because of the 2 great songs.:) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars mesmerizing
Got hold of this album by chance a few years after it came out. Had no idea what new age music was back then. It was still only available on the cassette tape format. But I loved it at first hearing. This was Christmastime and I was just looking for something to be played during the holiday season. Little did I imagine that this album would be among my most treasured few. Perhaps even my most listened to. And things got even better when I got it on CD. Finally, in around 2002, I got my copy of the 20th Anniversary Edition -with two bonus tracks, to my delight! After all this time, I'm just glad I stumbled upon this gem by George Winston. The soothing quality of this music is incredible. It's like meditation -you take in the music, and all the while it's like listening to forty minutes worth of glorious silence. Truly mesmerizing.

5-0 out of 5 stars The dawn to the holidays
George Winston's "December" is a rare gem, even amongst his excellent albums. The treat lies not only in his sublime renditions of instrumental classics, but also within the order of the songs.

THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is a bizarre film with a charming (though somewhat morbid) sensibility. There are many parts that make movie whole, but one of the things I enjoyed most about the film was the musical moments when the characters burst into song. This soundtrack to the film includes the vocal arrangements from the movie as well as the score written by Danny Elfman. Some of my favorite tunes on the album are:

    2-0 out of 5 stars Hallo-wha?
Let me start by saying I've never listened to Steamroller before picking this up. I am a big fan of Halloween and have quite a collection of music/sound fx so naturally, this was a must buy when I saw it.
5-0 out of 5 stars An interest take on the usual
I wasn't sure what I'd think of this from reading other reviews, but I really did like it.I'm not really familiar with Mannheim's other stuff (but if the rest of the Autumn cd is anything like Harvest Dance, I'm looking forward to getting it), so I didn't have any preconceived ideas.I have a lot of the classical pieces on other cds, but I like the different twist given to them here. And I did like the sound effect cd.Nicely spooky (I have enough other sound effects cds with screaming and muching ghouls, etc).

2-0 out of 5 stars Could have been great but . . .
As a big Steamroller fan, perhaps my hopes were set a little too high.I envisioned more original music (perhaps a more scarier vibe than the silly one this CD has to it) and maybe a few covered tunes.Chips originals (from the Fresh Aire series)found on this CD outshine the weak efforts put forth on the covered and rearranged tracks. The sound effects disc sets a great(and creepy)mood, that should had been followed through with some new and equally scary compositions.

Not only one of the best Christmas albums ever, but also one of the best albums in general. This album is nothing but brilliant from start to finish. Who would've thought you could make Christmas bad***??

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome and worthy!
This CD has many "tweeks" on the old standbys. It is glorious and moving.I am still playing it in February.I LOVE it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful--ALL year!
This music is exceptionally well done. The arrangements take fairly traditional Xmas carols and hymns and turns them into works of art that one can enjoyably listen to all year long. Occasionally the "Christmassie" character of the tunes is evident, but then this orchestral jazz goes off into Wonderland. I love it. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Fans of Andrew Lloyd Webber will discover he has a soul mate in one Paul O'Neill, the "conductor" of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. A dyed-in-the-wool sentimentalist, O'Neill presents this pop-rock tale from 1998 with all the glitz and glory of a Lloyd Webber Broadway show. Playing to the common themes of the season through a tale about a little angel sent to Earth to leave behind a gift, O'Neill creates a big-sounding production heavy on lead guitars and orchestral filigree. There are pieces of familiar Christmas carols and hymns and a handful of unembellished acoustic numbers to offset the brighter parts of the musical melodrama. While his singers and players are all professional sounding, O'Neill often mistakes sentiment as a grand gesture when it needs to be something less ambitious or noticeable. Nonetheless, there's a TV special or Broadway show wrapped up in this attic and it won't go away until it gets done. Read more

I was disappointed in this album.I bought it for one song I heard on the radio - Christmas Cannon. I thought the rest of the music would be similar. It was nothing like the one song.Electric guitars and rock music do not belong in an orchestra.

1-0 out of 5 stars Oh, Gack.
Hey, I can get as sentimental as the next person, but this CD has taken treacle and turned it into tripe.Send me an e-mail if you want this thing, and I'll mail you my copy as a present.

1-0 out of 5 stars This CD is an abomination.
Last Christmas season I was tormented by repeated plays of this disk on the office CD player. Finally, in self-defense, I stole it and took it home, so I wouldn't have to endure it again. But because misery loves company, I then inflicted it upon anyone who dropped by the house. Right up through New Year's Day. At this point I have memorized some of the lyrics.

This was a tough one to rate as you have 3 legendary entertainers here who sang similiar songs but yet in completely different styles - if they all would have been the same, that'd be boring now....rite?.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best We Can Get
There is definitely a bit of deception in the marketing and packaging of this CD.It is NOT an original soundtrack of the movie, as Rosemary Clooney did not participate in the recordings.Included in this CD are songs Ms. Clooney recorded separately, hence the confusing packaging. But it's still very enjoyable, and as of now, the best we can get.

5-0 out of 5 stars White Christmas all year long.
The Movie White Christmas, what can you say. The movie that warms the heart everytime. These are the songs you would find yourself humming all day long after a late night old oldies on the tube.

4-0 out of 5 stars A scary soundtrack
This is a compilation of what we can call "normal sounds" but they can scare the hell out of you if you are alone, the place is dark or it's late in the evening. I found that there are some sounds that can be considered out of place here. Phone sounds or machine guns are not "typical" of Halloween. But we have also the classic ones: gongs, chains, creaking doors, laughters, wolves, screams... The footsteps are very realistic. You can hear it almost from beginning to end without noticing. There are no pauses between tracks, and it's good also if you are planning on make your own compilation. Highly recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars Film soundtrack waiting to happen
It's so unfortunate: there are some cool sounds featured here. How great would it be to see a film, a visual compendium to match? Unfortunately, that film hasn't been made. Horror film needs to embrace minimalism, atmosphere, and mood. All we've had for years is sledgehammer to the face, over the top, metal soundtracked, FX OD fests. Close your eyes, walk through darkness, and try to evoke something resembling a chill or two with this. ... Read more
