5-0 out of 5 stars Bundle up with Sarah this winter.
The great thing about this album is that being a Christmas/winter album, it feels authentic, and not like some lame way to cash in on a holiday. This is mainly because it was released in October, which makes it stand out, and also just because the music is so good."Wintersong" is full of great, wintery tunes.Heck, the cover of Joni Mitchell's "River" is worth the purchase alone, but the whole thing is great.
5-0 out of 5 stars My new Christmas Favorite!
My absolute favorite is "River"- I'm shocked that anyone could "do it" better then Joni Mitchell, but Sara McLachlan has such unbounded talent.I really liked the fact that her music suits so many different ages & tastes within my household.Definitely a CD we can all agree on this winter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly Haunting
for a "Holiday Season" album, but not really unexpected for a Sarah McLachlan album. Even with some of the more traditional Christmas songs she adds her own signature soulfullness that most fans have come to expect and savor. Her voice puts me in a trance. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Christmas Albums ever!!
There's alot of people you like their regular music, but they come out with a christmas album and its just not up to par. Hardly the case with James Taylor- he never ceases to make wonderful music and take old songs and put his twist to it. This is one of the few Christmas albums that I love that is only by one person- it has such a mellow, stay at home with the family and fire type sound to it. You won't be disappointed!

4-0 out of 5 stars Gorilla in a Santa Hat
This is essentially the same release as the 2004 "James Taylor: A Christmas Album," which was sold exclusively through Hallmark Stores and online for a limited time. However, this one includes "River" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," which may not have been on the Hallmark disc but WAS a bonus track on limited editions of "October Road" in 2002.The track selection is all record company hocus-pocus.The important thing is that this is James Taylor singin' some Christmas favorites, and if that doesn't put you in a more cheerful holiday spirit you're truly an incurable cold-blooded Grinch. It's one of the best holiday releases I've ever heard by anyone, and I've been around since Christmas was invented, I think. This is a can't-go-wrong purchase. Nice album cover shot, too. Nice scarf, JT.Luv yah.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exquisite - the True Spirit of Christmas
If you adore James Taylor then this is a must-have. His voice is velvet, his humor with Natalie Cole is adorable. In this world of negativity give yourself a break... pop this in,crank up the gas fireplace, sit back and find a small moment of joy."Who Comes This Night" is an extremely good listen...the background singers evoke fond memories of days gone by...the strings uplift you."Auld Lang Syne" will have you pining for friends that you almost forgot. If you normally find Christmas albums untimely and boring, this album is definitely worth a listen. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic, eclectic Holiday album....
I really am enjoying this album. There is a great variety of tunes here, from traditional to contemporary and even some rare gems.My favorite, as with most people, is the holiday version of "From A Distance."It's enchanting. The duet with Johnny Mathis on "Winter Wonderland/Let It Snow!Let It Snow!Let It Snow!" is also amazing. In "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" I was originally a bit disappointed when she used the peppier "Hang a shining star upon the highest bow," instead of using the original, sadder, "Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow".However, for the second time around at the end of the song she used the original and darker lyrics. What a way to settle the debate!
5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT new Christmas album!
What a treat this album is!Great tunes!Well produced!Bette's in wonderful voice! Some of the highlights are "Mele Kalikimaka" (a rare, fun song and classic Bette), "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" and a great duet with Johnny Mathis. The new Christmas version of "From a Distance" is wonderful; surprisingly arranged and actually quite moving.I just love this album and plan on giving it to several people this Christmas!Thank you, Bette!

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Holiday Classic!
After nearly 40 years in show business recording 20 albums with 23 chart topping hits, Bette Midler has finally recorded a long overdue holiday album and she doesn't disappoint.

I rushed out to buy this album on it's release date and I was not disappointed in the purchase.Every song is beautiful and their voices blend so well. This is an excellent album and anyone who loves Christmas music will LOVE this CD.Everything from the song selection, the arrangements, and the voices is perfection.Hauntingly beautiful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Let it Snow!!!!
O Come All Ye Faithful Celtic Woman fans to a Christmas Celebration! What a wonderful collection of songs for the holiday season. The girls have out done themselves in Angelic voices and perfect harmony to bring together all that will send your memories into overdrive.Who doesn't remember a warm fireplace and the smell of spiced apples or cookies being whipped up on a cold winter day?All these memories will come up to the surface with festive tunes of Christmas as Carol of the Bells or Ding Dong Merrily on High.Nothing can compare to Meav singing Silent Night or Lisa Kelly's The Christmas Song. The beautiful vocal arrangement of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas will simply warm your soul.Of course, the girls have to show you that they can sing any style song with the swing arrangement of Let It Snow! David Downes' masterful arranging and Celtic Woman's beautiful voices combine to give something for everyone on this Yule tide CD whether your tastes are traditional Irish, festive, religious, or swing! Buy it now and start your season right.Buy the deluxe edition and get an ornament from Celtic Woman to hang on your tree!

5-0 out of 5 stars "It might go...
something like this..." With these words Bob Newhart, one of my favorite comedians, launches into one hilarious skit after another. Most of the bits here are every bit as funny as they were when originally performed, though a couple like "The Man Who Looked Like Hitler" or "Rocket Scientist" can seem dated. While I'm not opposed to the odd vulgarity (and I don't think that they either makes things funny or keep them from being funny), I enjoy the fact that Bob works so clean. It makes it possible for me to share something I really enjoy with both my older relatives (who would be offended otherwise) AND my younger relatives (who shouldn't be exposed).

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Christmas Delight!!!!!
I have been a huge fan of Wynonna's since the early days of The Judd's.I have every single album she has put out with The Judd's and Solo efforts.I have seen her live 10 times. She never fails to impress me. This woman can sing ANY genre of music and succeed in doing so.On her first solo Christmas album, Wynonna sings some of the songs she did on her X-mas album with her mom. This time she has an Orchestra to back her powerful vocals. The Chrismas Song, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, White Christmas all sound like the classic traditional versions. Her voice with the Orchestra...WOW!On Santa Claus is Coming to town...I like the little bells in the background and the children singing.Ave Maria, Emmanuel and It's the Messiah are all beautiful songs. Not very many people could pull off Ave Maria.Wynonna does effortlessly!!!What more can I say....This is just a beautiful traditional christmas album that will be a staple in my CD player during the Holiday Season for years to come. ... This CD got much play all through the Christmas season and for a few months after, until I finally put it away.I anticipate bringing it back out again in November!I have about 5 absoulute favorites on the song and the rest are all very good.Sometimes I just have to stop what I'm doing and close my eyes and listen, it is that good.I think I played this on a walkman with earphones about a zillion times, really getting such an excellent closeup sound.I very highly recommend this CD!!

WOW. 12 dollars for this CD. I must have seen this album in every stores 1 dollar bargain bin, and their wasn't one CD their was usually a big grotesque stack of them sitting thier.

3-0 out of 5 stars IT's OK...
There are 2 songs in this collection that are absolutely INCREDIBLE!Those 2 songs are "Mary, Did You Know" and "Don't Save it all for Christmas Day"However, these songs aside, this CD is just OK.I mean, Clay Aiken has a good voice and all, but, in my opinion, he doesn't shine on here the way he did on his "Measure of a Man" cd.The songs just come off as a little boring actually. And I love Christmas music. You know what, though, before anyone gets mad and threatens me :o Clay Aiken is still a great singer and I know that all of his die-hard fans will love this CD. A worthy addition to the country Christmas collection, this succinctly titled album combines respect for tradition with contemporary inspiration. "Winter Wonderland" features a Western swing arrangement and country references in the lyrics, "Away in a Manger" has a Cajun feel, and the "Jingle Bells" instrumental benefits from an injection of rockabilly twang (as does Paisley's revival of Buck Owens's "Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy"). Among the original material that distinguishes the collection, "Penguin, James Penguin" is like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" for the higher-tech generation, as Santa enlists a "secret-agent bird" to keep computerized tabs on who deserves what. "Born on Christmas Day" features a tape of a song Paisley wrote and initially recorded when he was 13, then segues into the artist today on the same tune. The album closes with a slam at political correctness on "Kung Pao Buckaroo Holiday," with the Kung Pao Buckaroos (a.k.a. George Jones, Bill Anderson, and "Little" Jimmy Dickens) discovering that they get bleeped every time they mention "Chxxxxmas." Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for your Christmas music collection!
My house rule of "No Christmas Music Will Be Played January Through November" has been broken - by me.In fact, since I bought this CD last week, the Rule has been broken over and over because I cant stop listening to it! This CD is a no-brainer for any BP fan, for "Born on Christmas Day" alone, but also listeners unfamiliar with Paisley's music will thoroughly enjoy it. "Kung Pau Buckaroo Holiday" will make even those most politically correct smile, and "Penguin, James Penguin" is an instant children's Christmas classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars mesmerizing
Got hold of this album by chance a few years after it came out. Had no idea what new age music was back then. It was still only available on the cassette tape format. But I loved it at first hearing. This was Christmastime and I was just looking for something to be played during the holiday season. Little did I imagine that this album would be among my most treasured few. Perhaps even my most listened to. And things got even better when I got it on CD. Finally, in around 2002, I got my copy of the 20th Anniversary Edition -with two bonus tracks, to my delight! After all this time, I'm just glad I stumbled upon this gem by George Winston. The soothing quality of this music is incredible. It's like meditation -you take in the music, and all the while it's like listening to forty minutes worth of glorious silence. Truly mesmerizing.

George Winston's "December" is a rare gem, even amongst his excellent albums. The treat lies not only in his sublime renditions of instrumental classics, but also within the order of the songs.

By teen-pop standards, Aly & AJ make a bold move on on their first holiday album and second disc. Instead of fizzing up the figgy pudding or decking the hall with a bunch of flashy hip-hop beats, they play it straight--"Silent Night" is justly peaceful (heavenly, even), "Let It Snow" lands as softly as a blanket of the newly fallen white stuff, and "Joy to the World" holds up its heartfelt peace sign by way of classic old-fashioned carol-crooning. Clearly the girls got a little giddy going through their parents' holiday music collection while conceiving this disc, and clearly they were thinking beyond its commercial prospects (how many underage starlets would challenge their cash-strapped core demographic with "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"?). 5-0 out of 5 stars This CD rocks!
This Cd is excellent. The music is a wonderful blend of rock and classical music.Listener's can easily identify pieces by Beethovan mixed in with the score. The story line that accompanies the piece is moving and creative.Trans-Siberian Orchastra really needs to create more CD's like this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars "You can live your life in a thousand ways/But it all comes down to that single day"
If you like TSO's Christmas music but want to hear their style when it is not the holidays, this is the only option for now.(A new album - Night Castle - is scheduled for release later this year.)A rock opera in the style of the 70's, but with TSO's unique sound of course, the production has nine lead vocalists (six major ones), nine back up vocalists and a children's choir. In addition to the TSO pianos, keyboards, guitars and drums, there is also a 10 piece string ensemble, which added all together sounds very good most of the time. One of the main characters is a Theresa (who was an actual love interest earlier in B's life) and her three songs (tracks 10, 12 and 15) are outstanding. The section before the very end seems contrived (the devil brings a suffering child in the street into his deal which doesn't make sense to me) and then a bunch of things happen that are not in song, only writing in the insert. But the work still gets four stars for an overall enjoyable listen. Also there is a bit of a reminder here that we are all mortal, which never hurt anyone.(Please see my profile for a brief discussion of my rating philosophy.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional
I recently saw TSO in concern in Rochester NY near Christmas and was floored with the production.I had seen the lit-up house to their Wizards in Winter song on the "Last Christmas Eve" album. So I was only to happy to explore more. I bought that album right away and played it constantly.Loved it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow
Not only one of the best Christmas albums ever, but also one of the best albums in general. This album is nothing but brilliant from start to finish. Who would've thought you could make Christmas bad***??

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome and worthy!
This CD has many "tweeks" on the old standbys. It is glorious and moving.I am still playing it in February.I LOVE it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful--ALL year!
This music is exceptionally well done. The arrangements take fairly traditional Xmas carols and hymns and turns them into works of art that one can enjoyably listen to all year long. Occasionally the "Christmassie" character of the tunes is evident, but then this orchestral jazz goes off into Wonderland. I love it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Naturopathic Tool
I've used this particular cd in my home and in my work as a doctor of naturopathy, and the results have always been good.I've seen people and animals calm down almost instantly, and visibly become more relaxed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Another great one for Reiki!
Another CD that my Reiki clients adore whenever I use it for them!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent CD to add to your relaxation collection
Whether you are new to this type of music and art or a firm believer of the inner workings of the relationship between the mind and the body and the spirit, this CD is a must. The CD is a great complement to Halpern's "Chakra Suite".

5-0 out of 5 stars Regan ROCKS
This guy is great! We were introduced to his comedy by a friend that played his recent DVD at a party. Our family was instantly hooked. We bought his CD that was released years earlier and took it on a road trip to Las Vegas this summer. We had to have listened to that CD 5 times during the drive out and had loads of laughs every time. The first track is the best and sets the tone for the rest of the CD.Buy it and enjoy it!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air!
Brian Regan is freakin' hilarious!I am completely surprised that seemingly all other comedians feel the need to throw in as many swear words as possible while someone like Brian Regan can keep it completely clean.I don't remember hearing even ONE ounce of profanity on this CD.I seriously could listen to him over and over and it's even better when you start to know some (or all) of the lines in his material....you find yourself using these lines to relate to occassions in your own life.I have friends that love Regan as well and we get humor from this CD even if we haven't listened to it for a long time.I highly recommend this CD and also suggest checking out his new DVD "I Walked On the Moon".Seeing the facial expressions that go with his material just adds to everything.Order this now...you won't regret it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I gotta admit I'm a bit surprised at how generously people are rating this album.I bought it because people raved about it so much.My wife and I listened to it on our drive to Indianapolis this weekend and ... we found it very lackluster.I'm not saying all other reviews here are WRONG, I'm glad they enjoyed it.However, this album pales in comparison to other works out there. It simply doesn't measure up to the likes of Todd Barry or Mitch Hedburg. Not even close.

Editorial Review

Fans of Andrew Lloyd Webber will discover he has a soul mate in one Paul O'Neill, the "conductor" of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. A dyed-in-the-wool sentimentalist, O'Neill presents this pop-rock tale from 1998 with all the glitz and glory of a Lloyd Webber Broadway show. Playing to the common themes of the season through a tale about a little angel sent to Earth to leave behind a gift, O'Neill creates a big-sounding production heavy on lead guitars and orchestral filigree. There are pieces of familiar Christmas carols and hymns and a handful of unembellished acoustic numbers to offset the brighter parts of the musical melodrama. While his singers and players are all professional sounding, O'Neill often mistakes sentiment as a grand gesture when it needs to be something less ambitious or noticeable. Nonetheless, there's a TV special or Broadway show wrapped up in this attic and it won't go away until it gets done. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars TSO Christmas Attic
I was disappointed in this album.I bought it for one song I heard on the radio - Christmas Cannon. I thought the rest of the music would be similar. It was nothing like the one song.Electric guitars and rock music do not belong in an orchestra.

1-0 out of 5 stars Oh, Gack.
Hey, I can get as sentimental as the next person, but this CD has taken treacle and turned it into tripe.Send me an e-mail if you want this thing, and I'll mail you my copy as a present.

1-0 out of 5 stars This CD is an abomination.
Last Christmas season I was tormented by repeated plays of this disk on the office CD player. Finally, in self-defense, I stole it and took it home, so I wouldn't have to endure it again. But because misery loves company, I then inflicted it upon anyone who dropped by the house. Right up through New Year's Day. At this point I have memorized some of the lyrics.
