5-0 out of 5 stars may as well be a greatest hits CD
Other bands would kill for having a greatest hits collection this good. This is just one album (albeit probably the best) from a diehard act that's still going strong after gobs of albums (and infinite band replacements to back up Joe Queer). Go to a Queers show and you'll hear just about every one of these songs, including the classic "Granola Head."
5-0 out of 5 stars another classic for you
Yes, here we go! This is the other Queers album that you need. This and Don't back down. You can forget all the others. Some are okay, some suck really bad, but here you cannot go wrong! Fast punkrock, mid-tempo pop smashers and slow love songs. You get it all!
5-0 out of 5 stars Remains Unread
This album is one of the most classic CDs I've ever owned. I bought it as a fluke because I seen "The Queers". Hahahahaha...They probably suck. I was dead wrong. This album is so catchy and infectious that you HAVE to sing along. The lyrics are hilarious, kind of sad, kind of happy at the same time. I bought a couple more Queers CDs and none compare or even come close to this one. In fact, not many albums I own come close to this one. This is one of the best CDs I've ever owned and I own quite a few. The sound is a mix between old pop punk like the Screeching Weasels and kind of a 50's or 60's band with the "bow's, woooeeeee's, and ahhhh's". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love Worth Fighting For Is EXCELLENT
After reading some of the reviews here, I ordered this CD.I am very pleased with it.The songs are moving and inspiring.I had not heard the majority of the music or artists ever before and I listen to this CD daily now and have learned all of the songs. My favorites areHelp is on the Way, John Wesley Oliver Jr, Listsen to My Heart and of course the song in the title, Love Worth Fighting For. I highly recommend this CD and look forward to any CD's this group creates in the future.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Variety - Something For Everyone
I'll admit it---I bought this CD for Michael Callen's and Cris Williamson's songs alone. But I was pleasantly surprised to find I like all of the music, in particular the selections by Bill McKinley, Ann Reed, The Flirtations, Janis Ian, and Marsha Malamet.5-0 out of 5 stars Talent, Emotion & Understanding
I was so surprised not to see a review for this cd - it is not only a great introduction to the many gay & lesbian singers but also a educational landmark in the people who have fought againt bigotry andignorance.Stand out tracks for me are "Love Worth Fighting For"- Michael Callen, "Lay Your Burden Down" - Dan Martin, "SitWith Me" - Holly Near and "Jonathan Wesley Oliver Jr" - LeeLessack. This is a not only a must for anyone coming to terms with theirsexuality and looking for support and understanding but also for anyonelooking for great lyrics, music and above all faith.I'm sure there shouldbe Volume 2 in the making! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Queers EP
Definitely a must-have, this CD EP has 4 Queers songs, consisting of: 1. Surf Goddess - this is an excellent love song, very memorable. 2. Mirage - awesome version of the Shondels cover that was in Beat Off. 3. Get Over You - awesome Undertones cover. 4. Quit Talkin' - amusing surf song with great guitar riffs. Don't miss out on this classic Queers EP. Also try out Everything's OK.

5-0 out of 5 stars They're four songs on this EP, not three!
I loved this EP.But they're four songs on the CD EP, not three as listed here! They forgot to list the title track, "Surf Goddess".It's the first song, and it's very sweet.I recommend you LOOKOUT (RECORDS) forplaces where you can get this for a bit cheaper.Well anyway, that's all Ireally wanted to say.Tryin' to save you, the thrifty consumer, a fewextra pennies.Shift some of the wealth around, ya know? Editorial Review

When Pansy Division formed in 1993, they were the only game in town, if quirky, lo-fi queer punk was your bag. Band founder and songwriter Jon Ginoli had a knack for writing riffy, three-chord songs that gave clever rhyming structure to all forms of fornicatory declamation (as suggested by singles "Touch My Joe Camel" and "James Bondage"). If you were expecting more of the same, you might be unprepared for the triumphant surprise of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You don't have to be gay to like this album ...
I'm a little late to the party as far as this CD is concerned, but ever since I bought it I haven't removed it from my CD player. This is pure power pop -punk perfection, with the heavy bass and drums and crunchy riffs you might expect from an Albini produced album, but the sharp musicianship is all Pansy Division. They get a lot of attention for their cheeky, gleefully filthy lyrics, but this recoding seems to highlight them more as musicians, with the lyrics - although still clever and occasionally risque - taking second place. And these guys can play - dear lord, they'll kick your butts. There's almost no skippable tracks on this CD - you can just let it play. Yes, lyrically it's more serious and slightly downbeat than their previous albums, but it's still fantastic stuff.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rip Roaring Evloved Sound
After five straight cds of catchy yet monotonious sound and style of song writing, this one-trick pony has evolved into a melodious, hard-rocking BAND.The song writing has become modern, catchy, and mature. The musicianship has rapidly developed since their previous studio album though great vocal harmonies, tighter guitar sound, and tasteful drumming. From beginning to end, the album is very strong, without any weak filler.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hm...
This is speaking probably more from my own personal preference to the older sound of the group rather than the tightness of the band in their newest release. Their sound has evolved and there's some serious to goalongwith the humorous...a bit too much serious for my taste. PansyDivision's songs about the despair of being a gay male or currenthomosexual topics have just never raised my interest enough and I usuallyskip through them (save 'Deep Water' from the 'Deflowered album, which *is*rather touching*)Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Never mind the gay, just enjoy the music
If you are dubious about the "gayness" of this music, no worries! So are most of the composers on this disc. Strangely, despite the premise of the collection, in the liner notes most deny their music is "gay," even if their lives are. Aside from the Whitman texts and a few other hints, you would be hard pressed to hear anything here but beautiful 20th cen. American music. And it is a beautiful selection, nice especially for the inclusion of lesser known young composers along with Rorem and Harrison.

4-0 out of 5 stars thank god for queers!
This album is a lot like "A Day Late And A Dollar Short" or "Beyond The Valley". Hard punk, less pop. Loud, fast and lacking of smooth studio polish. The way punk should be. I can't make out one word in "Junk Freak", but it's one of my favorite Queer's songs ever. And "Boobarella" and "Gay Boy" give this album the strong abbrasive political incorrectness that Joe King is the master of. BUY THIS ALBUM!

Editorial Review

While Pansy Division's jokey, tongue-in-cheek lyrics about gay life wear thin after a while, their buoyant pop hooks and high-energy punk rhythms are always uplifting. On its fifth album, the San Francisco trio experiments with heavier sounds (witness "Expiration Date 01/97," one of several tracks produced by Steve Albini) and topics (listen to "Political Asshole"). But there's still a fair amount of shtick, and while some of it works-the old Judas Priest song is retooled as "Breaking the (Sodomy) Law"-tunes such as "Manada" and "Hockey Hair" just aren't very funny after the first few listens. --Read more

I was...less than enthused when I first heard Athens Boys Choir. There's little background music, it's nearly all spokenword, and I'm a spoiled brat, so I wanted music even though I knew it was spokenword. But after about 30 seconds, I was hooked. The way they play with words is halfway between rap and poetry and, though the messages can be harsh at times, it makes you feel inspired to DO SOMETHING in your community, about discrimination in all its forms. In short, YAY! It was good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Why isn't this woman more famous?
She's got a hilarious website with Lacie Harmon (why doesn't SHE have her own album...) and appears on the video Out There In Hollywood with Scott Thompson. Her performance there is a riot and you can tell she's "on" and that the audience is having a great time. This disc contains some of that same material but loads more, so if you have seen her on video, it is still worth purchasing. Greenspan is insightful and quirky and has a sharp, smart wit. It is unfortunate that on this cd a lot of her ease and attitude doesn't come through. Despite the fact that the cd clearly didn't capture her in a magic performace (always a bummer as a cd captures that moment forever), it is fun and entertaining. It gets five stars because the content is worth it and because I am that enthusiastic about the cd. Lets hope she finds her way out of barely-known cds and into the stand-up stratosphere. And for those of you who are merely curious about another lesbian comic or have heard her music cd--buy this already, you will not be disappointed! ... Read more
