5-0 out of 5 stars Yankovic to Rock Hall of Fame!!!
It's been 27 years since Weird Al first displayed his genius to the world with My Bologna, so why isn't he in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? I implore all fans to take whatever drastic actions are required to make the short-sighted entrance commitee to that august organization make Weird Al a member.
5-0 out of 5 stars There is no one like Weird Al
AGAIN, he does a fantastic job. He is able to morph his voice to handle any style of song. This one also really shows what a lovely voice he really has. BEAUTIFUL job AL, keep it up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Its Funny, hopefully it will stay that way...
I not a gigantic fan of Wierd Al, since he can become a victim of his own success (anybody want to hear "Eat It" again, ever?) but I heard "Weasel Stomping Day" on Cartoon Network's Robot Chicken show and I was laughing out loud. Hopefully cuts from this CD won't get played to death because its worth a listen. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bundle up with Sarah this winter.
The great thing about this album is that being a Christmas/winter album, it feels authentic, and not like some lame way to cash in on a holiday. This is mainly because it was released in October, which makes it stand out, and also just because the music is so good."Wintersong" is full of great, wintery tunes.Heck, the cover of Joni Mitchell's "River" is worth the purchase alone, but the whole thing is great.
5-0 out of 5 stars My new Christmas Favorite!
My absolute favorite is "River"- I'm shocked that anyone could "do it" better then Joni Mitchell, but Sara McLachlan has such unbounded talent.I really liked the fact that her music suits so many different ages & tastes within my household.Definitely a CD we can all agree on this winter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly Haunting
for a "Holiday Season" album, but not really unexpected for a Sarah McLachlan album. Even with some of the more traditional Christmas songs she adds her own signature soulfullness that most fans have come to expect and savor. Her voice puts me in a trance. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Christmas Albums ever!!
There's alot of people you like their regular music, but they come out with a christmas album and its just not up to par. Hardly the case with James Taylor- he never ceases to make wonderful music and take old songs and put his twist to it. This is one of the few Christmas albums that I love that is only by one person- it has such a mellow, stay at home with the family and fire type sound to it. You won't be disappointed!

4-0 out of 5 stars Gorilla in a Santa Hat
This is essentially the same release as the 2004 "James Taylor: A Christmas Album," which was sold exclusively through Hallmark Stores and online for a limited time. However, this one includes "River" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," which may not have been on the Hallmark disc but WAS a bonus track on limited editions of "October Road" in 2002.The track selection is all record company hocus-pocus.The important thing is that this is James Taylor singin' some Christmas favorites, and if that doesn't put you in a more cheerful holiday spirit you're truly an incurable cold-blooded Grinch. It's one of the best holiday releases I've ever heard by anyone, and I've been around since Christmas was invented, I think. This is a can't-go-wrong purchase. Nice album cover shot, too. Nice scarf, JT.Luv yah.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exquisite - the True Spirit of Christmas
If you adore James Taylor then this is a must-have. His voice is velvet, his humor with Natalie Cole is adorable. In this world of negativity give yourself a break... pop this in,crank up the gas fireplace, sit back and find a small moment of joy."Who Comes This Night" is an extremely good listen...the background singers evoke fond memories of days gone by...the strings uplift you."Auld Lang Syne" will have you pining for friends that you almost forgot. If you normally find Christmas albums untimely and boring, this album is definitely worth a listen. ... Editorial Review

Their second album and first for Interscope is almost wholly brilliant. Like Mogwai, Sigur Ros and a dozen others, TVOTR excels at making slowly-evolving tunes with vaguely anthemic choruses and lots of loud-soft dynamics. Unlike virtually any of those other bands, TV on the Radio mix a genuine and actual songwriting ability with their knack for finding sounds that appear to be "new." This record is crisper-sounding and incorporates more dance-based elements, but it's essentially a pop album. While the lack of the free web-released "Dry Drunk Emperor, a tribute to President Bush, is initially a bummer, the album percolates with enough pre-apocalyptic tension to satisfy anyone. In a Prince-pitched falsetto, the group sings "I was a lover/ Before this war," While throughout, the combination of melody and invention is always pitch-perfect (well, except on "Province" and "Let the Devil In," those songs sort of suck.) People of Earth: please make this band into total superstars and buy several copies of their album: one for the car, another for the office, etc. What we really need in our popular music is more weirdness, and more truth.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of 2006 so far.
This album is so good that I finally decided to write a review. I had to add some thoughts especially since some of the other reviews aren't that positive. Return To Cookie Mountain sounds fresher than anything I have heard in a long time. "Wolf Like Me" is amazing and what drew me to them in the first place. But it's the other songs that will hold onto you for much longer. "I Was A Lover" is a great intro and sets the tone perfectly. "A Method" which no one here has really discussed much, is a beautiful song with layers of harmony that lead into wonderfully sinister drums. It is that kind of juxtapostioning that keeps you on your toes through out. the last part of the album drags a bit, but it's only because the first part is so extraordinary. If you really like eclectic and beautifully crafted music you can go wrong with this. Gets better with every listen!

2-0 out of 5 stars Turn off the tv on the radio!
This band is getting alot of critical acclaim right now, but I'm just not feeling it. The single "Wolf like me" is the only song that stands out to me on the whole album. It is a great song, but everything else is just blah. I think the band could use a different singer, the guy they got doesn't sing very well or very "soulful". The music is good, very original and the only reason I haven't sold the cd yet. I really think ppl need to hear this one for themselves before they buy. Don't be fooled by these 5 star reviews. Just listen to the cd before you buy it. That's my advice.

3-0 out of 5 stars When it works it is friggin' wonderful...
...but when in doesn't, it really, really doesn't.I have to admit that if the review were based solely on the songs I really enjoy from this album it would be 5 instead of only 3 stars, but alas as a whole the album, for me at least, doesn't work. That is not, however, to say I don't respect these guys for trying something new.On the contrary, I think that their mistakes are brilliant attempts. That said, the songs that work are, as the headline says, "Friggin' Wonderful"."I Was A Lover" and "Wolf Like Me" are fantastic. The later of the two will definitely stay in constant rotation on my Nanopod for years to come(Not that the Nanopod will actually last that long, but that is another story all together).I would definitely suggest it to fans of the first. The album is a logical progression in their sound, and I can't wait to hear what they do next. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic, eclectic Holiday album....
I really am enjoying this album. There is a great variety of tunes here, from traditional to contemporary and even some rare gems.My favorite, as with most people, is the holiday version of "From A Distance."It's enchanting. The duet with Johnny Mathis on "Winter Wonderland/Let It Snow!Let It Snow!Let It Snow!" is also amazing. In "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" I was originally a bit disappointed when she used the peppier "Hang a shining star upon the highest bow," instead of using the original, sadder, "Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow".However, for the second time around at the end of the song she used the original and darker lyrics. What a way to settle the debate!
5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT new Christmas album!
What a treat this album is!Great tunes!Well produced!Bette's in wonderful voice! Some of the highlights are "Mele Kalikimaka" (a rare, fun song and classic Bette), "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" and a great duet with Johnny Mathis. The new Christmas version of "From a Distance" is wonderful; surprisingly arranged and actually quite moving.I just love this album and plan on giving it to several people this Christmas!Thank you, Bette!

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Holiday Classic!
After nearly 40 years in show business recording 20 albums with 23 chart topping hits, Bette Midler has finally recorded a long overdue holiday album and she doesn't disappoint.

3-0 out of 5 stars Amputate some songs...
If someone were to ask me the answer to today's Pink Floyd, my response might be The Mars Volta. With 2003's Deloused in the Comatorium, the galactic battlefield that is Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez's guitar work ripped apart the common man while the saucy vocals of one Cedric Bixler Zavala put it all back together again. Their music was weird, trippy and, for the most part, frighteningly original.
4-0 out of 5 stars Humans as ornaments
This is the first disc I've heard by The Mars Volta (TMV) and I can understand why this could be a negative experience for some. Piercing dissonant guitar tones that could shatter glass, odd time signatures and weird changes during a song usually turn most people off. Adding creepy shrieking sax playing and falsetto vocals that can warp your eardrums and sound Chipmunkish at times, and you have a difficult listen indeed. For me, TMV sound like a combination of Faith No More, King Crimson, and Santana. All songs on this disc, less the beginning and final track, are intriguing and the simple groove of "Meccamputechture" is infectious. The production suffers at times from audible distortion and the drums are buried in the mix, but these are only minor issues to an otherwise solid release. Definitely makes me want to check out more of their discs. ... Read more

This is a great and smart collection. Just look at the selection of songs you get, Monster Mash, Ghostbusters, Purple People Eater, The Addams family theme, Twilight Zone and my new favorite The Martian Hop. I never heard the Martian Hop before even though it's from the early 1960s, pretty catchy song. It's a great cd and unlike other compilations that have movie themes this one has the actual real legit songs. That's the real Monster Mash song by Bobby Picket, that's the real beginning to the Addams Family show and that's the real RayParker Jr. singing Ghostbusters. It would be nice if they had more songs but you'll still be glad you bought this cd when you have company over for a party come October or Halloween Night.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good music but is the worst packaging I've ever seen!
This follow-up recording from the Mannheim Steamroller Halloween is very well done. You can defintely tell this was produced by Chip Davis and the Steamroller folks. I didn't care too much for the vocals on several tracks. It almost sounds like the Steamroller is trying too hard to be hip and creepy. As an addition to your MS library and as a fun Halloween recording, it is great.
4-0 out of 5 stars Halloween Party
As another reviewer said, this release is better than the first (which I also liked, but did overrate initially) because the focus is on popular music associated with Halloween rather than on "scary" classical music. The amount of vocals works very well - it must be kept in mind that Chip Davis actually got his first big break through novelty country songs, and so it should not be surprising that he can do great Steamroller arrangements even with fairly straightforward vocals. Some tracks are better than others (again, I have to agree that the Davis originals are among the weakest, though the Trafik Techno Remix of Creatures of the Night is fantastic) but overall it's a fun Halloween party album.Listening to the sound samples should tell you if this will be your cup of tea or not.Just keep in mind this is designed for a fun Halloween party rather than as something to scare you. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Musicals and Burlap Sacks...
I snagged this CD a few days ago and was absolutely pleased with it.It's just a lot of fun from beginning to end.He reminds me of a sober Mitch Hedberg in some ways but I don't want to get carried away with that comparison.I say this because both have a great knack for throwing out ridiculous ideas from DEEP left field ... stuff that makes you wonder "where the crap did he even come up with that?"But stylewise, Demetri has his own little thing happening, with a very unassuming delivery, and he likes to mix it up with other means of creativity as well, using his sketch drawings or throwing in some guitar to give things a different flavor.(I guess that makes it very low-tech multi-media comedy.)
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most clever and clean comedians out there!
I asked Demetri back in March '05 when this CD was coming out... "Oh, around October [05]..." Well, his estimate was a year off, but let me tell you-- the wait was WELL worth it! This CD/DVD combo is packed full of creativeness. The CD performance captures basically all his material (including stuff I hadn't heard since March '05), performed in his prime, with a great audience that "got" him (not obnoxious or laughing at the wrong time; clever crowd!) resulting in a great, fun, smile-inducing, laugh-inducing listening experience. The whole CD/DVD package itself is fun, with illustrations all by Demetri, including a fold-out poster* (*professional)! His humor is for all ages; intelligent; hilarious. don't listen to the previous review saying demetri has gone soft.that guy doesn't know what he is talking about and i also think he is a little bitter that he can't get any girls.the only people i know that complain about someone else catering to the 'ladies' is the guy who can't get any of the aforementioned 'ladies.'demetri martin is a very smart guy and his comedy showcases his intelligence.i just saw him live and his new material is just as funny as this cd.creating a whole new set of jokes is not an easy task, most comics hold on to jokes for a very long time and demetri, new to the public ears, is already on tour with a whole new set of jokes.he can improv, he can draw (pictures) funny material, he can come up with one liners, and best of all, after the punch line is delivered, he can still, sometimes quietly, throw in a line or two that is far funnier than the punchline.only larry david can make me laugh as much as demetri martin.demetri is really in a special class of comics, because he is just naturally funny, he doesn't have to try, he just has a really funny way of looking at things and thinking about things and he is my favorite comic right now.he can make anyone laugh, not just a specific group of people, and that is true talent. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Going to buy it...
I like to read user reviews before purchasing anything and I have to say, there aren't a whole lot here that I can really count on. You have two sides: those who LOVE Dane Cook and those who LOATHE him. The loathers of the group seem to think that all comedians should be insightful, political, have a real message. My love for comedy is complete. My tastes range from Dennis Miller, Lewis Black and George Carlin to Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle and Dave Atell.I LOVE TO LAUGH. That's all that matters. I'm not the most intelligent person in the world, nor am I the dumbest, but I don't think that liking Dane Cook lowers my IQ in any way. And something I found that I do with Dane Cook that I don't do with other comics...I repeat his jokes in my everyday life. His observations about everyday, random things are so dead on that when I come across those situations, I have to laugh and repeat a Dane-ism. If you don't like Dane Cook, fine. But don't belittle and disparage those who do. Everyone's tastes are different.
1-0 out of 5 stars He's the biggest thing in comedy?Really?
Man, have I given this guy a chance.Multiple chances.Listened to the CDs, saw the big HBO special.I mean, his career is red hot now.He clearly has lots of fans.Mostly college age (perhaps this should be a warning to some of you). All I can say is "maybe they'll grow out of it."He is NOT funny. His act has no bite, no point of view, no opinion/viewpoint at all.His comedy consists of spewing observations his audience can relate to (the "this is all happened to us" or "has this ever happened to you?" school of humor). He runs about manically, acting out every little word that comes out of his mouth (for those in the audience that may not be so good with words). His fans acknowledge that, yes, they can relate."Yeah! That's happened to me!""I know that reference!'They laugh, cheer, clap, and plunk down their hard-earned dollars for his vanilla wit.He never actually COMMENTS on the things he discusses in any intelligent, interesting way.He has no edge. He's not outraged by anything. He's cute 'n' cuddly.Richard Pryor must be rolling in his grave at the very fact that Cook is classified as a stand up comic."Pryor? The guy writing this must be OLD!'Okay, try this on for size:Chris Rock is good comedy.Same with Dave Chappelle.Carlin.Laura Kightlinger.Kinison.Rodney Dangerfield.Bob Saget.Gilbert Gottfried.Dom Irrera.Lewis Black.Robert Klein. The late Mitch Hedberg.Jim Norton.Patton Oswalt.Brian Posehn.DeGeneres.Jon Stewart.Bob & David. The UCB.I'm not even a big fan of Sarah Silverman, but at least she's trying to bring something different to the party.Anything but this!God help us.Let's hope he goes the way of Carrot Top and Dice soon (don't forget, Cook fans, Mr. Top and Mr. Clay were once as popular as your boy here).

1-0 out of 5 stars Totally Sucks. He can't possibly have any fans over 30.
Check out George Carlin little kids. That's a real comedian. Or if you have a bias against anyone whose popularity started before 1995 (when you were 5) Dave Chappelle and Nick DiPaolo. If you still like Dane Cook then you're officially retarded. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Please give us more Norm
I have to say that looking at the reviews, I would agree that some skits are atronger than others, but especially the best skits I have listened to time and time again and they still make me laugh.Every sketch though has at least one great line delivered by Norm.A lot of the humor is funny because it is so suddle.Even the parts that are shockingly abrasive in thier humor, have suddle undertones that make them really funny.Guests stars are all over the album. The ones I knew were Artie Lang, Molly Shannon, Will Ferrell, Jon Lovitz and Tim Meadows. The Fantastic Four sketch and Tex Hooper are probably the best, but I die laughing when he says "My hand sure hurts from that meteor...I mean phone" in Stan + Lois a skit about a guy pretending that he is Superman's secret identity to score with Lois.I disgree with the reviewer who said this was the same stuff as his Comedy Central special. There wasn't a single overlap in sketches. Not as good as watching Dirty Work but still a great album.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Disappointment
A long time fan, I bought this immediately after watching Norm McDonald do a hilarious turn with John Stewart on the Daily Show.
5-0 out of 5 stars Note To Self: Norm MacDonald CD not as good as Advertised
I gave this CD 5 stars simply because it completely eclipses 95% of the "Comedy" albums that get released because focus groups full of mongloid rednecks say the material is funny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Monty Python's Spamalot

So , go get your money for this cd & get it fast. You will not go home unhappy with hearing Monty Python's Spamalot . Always look on the bright side of life :)
5-0 out of 5 stars Could you think of a better soundtrack that could define Monty Python any better?
I recently purchased "Monty Python's SpamAlot" and that was money well spent. The lyrics are hilarious and couldn't define the humor of Monty Python any better. It captures that greatness of the 1970s movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" and adds new laughs.Sara Ramariez has an amazing voice and (if you didn't know) I truly understand why she won the Tony in 2005 for her portrayal as The Lady of the Lake.If you are a Musical Theatre Junkie, like myself, then I highly suggest that you order this soundtrack.

5-0 out of 5 stars Way too funny!!
I purchased this CD after seeing Spamalot because the songs from the show are clever, witty and, well, just plain funny. Listening to the CD at work or in the car just sends me into a great mood as I remember the show and how funny and entertaining it was.Anyone who has seen Spamalot will know what I mean and will want that same recollection over and over as they listen to the tracks. If you loved the show this CD is a must. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible
I'm absolutey dumbfounded as to why this guy has a thriving career...he really is terrible.I agree that he is one of those comics that just does the whole "has this ever happened to you..." and just animates everything buy jumping up and down. NOT FUNNY!If you've seen seen the MAD TV spoof on him, you'd realize just how much of a joke this guy's act is.Mindless garbage on a CD.I wish I could give it 0 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars Big pile of doggie doo!
Did any of the 5-star reviewers actually listen to this? I suspect that Dane cook himself is the author of 75% of these positive reviews. This one stinks to high heaven! Avoid the noid!

    Editorial Review

Gold assembled a handful of knowns and unknowns to make special cameos on this melodic and fun collection of original and classic Halloween tunes with a pop-rock bent. Among the haunted are David Cassidy, Karla Bonoff, Linda Ronstadt, Stephen Bishop, Nicolette Larson, and Gold's children and wife. From the Beatlesesque touches of "It Must Be Halloween" (parts seemingly lifted from "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite") to Boris Karloff's "Monster Mash" and "The Addams Family" theme song, Gold and company offer up treats that kids and their parents will like, including the "Ghostbusters" theme. But with cooler original fare like "The Creature from the Tub" and "Spooky, Scary Skeletons," you have to wonder why they relied on so many predictable cover songs. Read more
