Oh, what a city!!
I have lived in NY all my life, not in the city,(but very close).The one thing I have always loved about living here is its cultural diversity.People from all walks of life seem to immigrate here.This 2CD set proves that.This is a great world music collection, that includes many tracks by the Latino population.There is a combination of plena, bachata, salsa, merengue and more... From the Caribbean, there is the steeldrums of Trinidad, and Haitian rara(roots music).Asian-Americans contribute some instrumental pieces from Korea and China.Also included is: Celtic, Gypsy, Jewish, Greek, Albanian, and African music.This is a wonderfully inexpensive price for so many different types of music.If you want to learn a little more about the great city of NY, then pick this up!

Really a 5-star...however...
Do you dig the Vice Prez Paul Quinichette?Man, to hear him trade choruses with Al Cohn--with the Herd and Tito Puente's latin percussion behind them--let me tell you something:GET THIS CD.And another little bonus--besides the all-star band and the great charts throughout, and the gorgeous acoustic guitar guesting with the Herd--is hearing upstate tenorman Joe Romano here with the Herd.
It's About Time
Anybody who owned this original LP and the subsequent shoddy transfers on CD (if you can find them still) can now rest at ease. Finally someone has taken the original LP and released it exactly as it was - complete original Nat Hentoff liner notes - The real cover of the LP, and finally the real title!! Fun background music
The late Tito Puente created a huge catalog of music in his time, to be the King of the Mambo. This album is a great Tito sampler. The music is just fun with infectious beats to get your toes tapping. This album is wonderful for just putting on the stereo, having a cocktail and just chilling out. If you are a fan of Salsa music but may not be overly familiar with specifics, this may be a great introduction to you. The only problem is the lack of liner notes (a problem with the entire series), but you get what you pay for. Worth the money. ... Read more
