It's thrilling--in any language--to hear new music from Colombian superstar Shakira. And it's been a long time coming. Shakira's English crossover opus, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
It is as good as expected and more. All the songs are great, maybe with the exception of 6. Escondite Ingles. My personal favorites are 2. La Pared 7. No and 8. Las de la Intuicion. If you like Shakira this is a must have, especially for those that loved her previous spanish language albums.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect but Shakira's voice makes it great
Shakira is brilliant. Not only does she produce and write her own material, she sings in what I describe as the music business female sex's most unique bleat.Usually my reviews come from a third person perspective (since any critic knows that's the best way to approach a review), but it's hard to describe Shakira's musings without inserting my personal feelings and opinions toward and about it."La Tortura" is the biggest hit here, of course, and deservedly so.It's simply the best Latin pop song to come along in a long time. The beat, the poetic lyrics and that voice all combine to produce one awesome track.Fijacion Oral is a mismash of genres and, unfortunately, only a couple songs can even come close to approaching the instant smash "La Tortura" is.Opener "En Tus Pupilas" (featured on the later Oral Fixation album in English) is decent and sounds somewhat European."La Pared" is one of Fijacion's better moments."Las De La Intuicion" is the record's second best track with its disco-infused melody and charge-forward beat."Lo Imprescindible" use of thundering drums adds rock flavor to Fijacion while "Dia De Enero" is girlish fun.Though I prefer the English language Oral Fixation to the Spanish Fijacion Oral, with each listen this record just keeps getting better and better.

3-0 out of 5 stars The English Oral Fixation is better
Colombian rock goddess Shakira is quite the performer. The talented hip-shaker extraordinaire gives an impassioned performance in her trademark throaty-and-nasal bleat over the course of 12 addictive Spanish language tracks that make up Fijacion Oral Vol. 1.The standout here is, of course, the No. 1 global smash "La Tortura" featuring sexy call-and-response dialogue with Latin singer Alejandro Sanz ("La Tortura" is also presented in a remixed format but sits far below its original mix). The opener (featured in English on the later English language Oral Fixation Vol. 2) "En Tus Pupilas" is soft and sensual with its European-influenced mystique and chordal Spanish guitar, but unfortunately it's not one of Fijacion Oral's most memorable moments (aforementioned "La Tortura" holds that spot deservedly) and could keep listeners from delving deeper into the complex and individual workings of the remainder of the album. The bleaterrific "La Pared" showcases Shakira's rich and unique vocals, and is offered up in both original and acoustic versions."Lo Imprescindible" officially closes the record with its thundering drums and incredibly rock-oriented rhythm and beats. In the end, it's an interesting listen with few highs, but the English language Oral Fixation Vol. 2 is much more consistent and likable. ... frist off i been knowing shakirasince 2000 i was in the ninth gradei know she trying to hard she made it there have been other crossovers who have try and failed liked (kyile minougebjork and rebecca st james) all thesse artists have failed to made a break throught in the us the only one has made in the usa. is here i know her voice sound a littleto highbut what i am saying she made mrs dion all made a break throughtin 97so give the girl a break. people will have to get use to her voiceand she major star in south americanshe did better than janet jackson and mariah carey even that their low point mariah cameback but she didn,t made strong comeback .

4-0 out of 5 stars I can do my laundry service any day!
Shakira was right to call this "Laundry Service". Hearing the opening number "Objection" always makes me feel like I just bought this CD yesterday. This my first and only Shakira CD with English and it is refreshing tohear it every time. She has her fair share of hits on here that I can surely hear over and over, like "Whenever, Wherever" and "Eyes Like Yours". This is a pretty unusual crossover CD, containing both English and her native Spanish. Clearly, she finds it easier in her own language, evident in songs like "Suerte" and "Que Me Quedes Tu". Her English is a bit choppy, but people won't buy music from a Spanish singer to bask in their English. Her voice makes it difficult to listen sometimes, as in "Underneath Your Clothes" and "The One", and I feel that "Fool" and "Poem to a Horse" are positioned well yet often overlooked as many Shakira fans are lured to more her scantily clad dance videos than rocking songs about how her "heart is sore". As for me, I hope that the clothes in this cycle never dry out!

1-0 out of 5 stars La Voz De ShakiraMe Hace Vomitar
Where do I start? This is awful. "Underneath Your Clothes" sounds too much like Alanis Morrisette's "Head Over Feet." "Whenever, Wherever" sounds much better in the Spanish-version "Suerte" and the video to that was alright. The rest of the songs sound like 1980's leftovers retrieved from the trash. Other than that, Shakira sounds absolutely dreadful. It's like hearing someone scratching their nails down a chalkboard. This chick doesn't know if she wants to emulate Jewel, Alanis Morrisette, or Britney Spears. But I guess she was like, "F*** it! I'll sound like all three!" and all you get is chaos. You can't even tell what kind of emotion Shakira is trying to express in a song because her voice is so messed up. "Laundry Service" sucks and "Oral Fixation" Vol. 1 and 2 are even worse. Shakira's easy on the eyes but she's killer on the ears. She needs to dye her back to its original black color and take some singing lessons. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disapointing
I think David Bisbal should stick with his roots, the flamenco/pop he does like no other. This album is more rock, typical music of today, nothing like the different sounds that his two first albums brought. I don't find the same enthusiastic David as in previous songs. His ballads are boring, and the rest of the album is dull and very predictable.I love this singer, but I think he should stick to the best tallent he has, and that is to bring his roots to the forefront and keep the rock music to the rockers.I don't care for rock, perhaps that's why I don't like this album, but I truly don't think it's going to catch on like the other two he did."Torre de Babel" is great though, it's David Bisbal singing and doing what he does best, flamenco/pop, original and different. I was anticipating this album, now I'm just sorry I bought it....good thing it was on sale, that should say something about it, it's not selling well if only after 2 weeks of being out, it's already being discounted.I hope his next is flamenco/pop otherwise, he'll lose this fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars outstanding!(more rock than pop)
this CD is fantastic. i usually love david's voice singing ballads (which this CD has), but there are more rock tracks here than on his others. the tunes are great; his voice is so strong, he carries them all very well. some reggaeton and an indian flair thrown in; a little of everything. should win some new fans (as if he didn't have enough already?).

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great CD, hace bailar mi corazon gitana
If you love David Bisbal, you have another winner in this new CD. Premonicion has something for everyone from the emotional ballads that he sings so well, to the pop rock that gets everyone's feet moving. My favorite is Torre Babel. (Hace mi corazon gitana brincar y bailar con alegria!) It features David Bisbal at his very best singing his fusion of flamenco and Indian rhythms with reggeton! David has personally contributed to this album and the lyrics make many very strong statements about the artist himself and the world. If you are fan of David Bisbal, you won't be disappointed in this CD. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This album pairs one of the greatest flamenco singers of today, cantaor Diego El Cigala, with one of Cuba's finest Afro-Cuban pianists, Bebo Valdes. With Valdes (father of the great Chucho Valdes) born in 1918, there's a 40-year age difference between the pianist and the singer, but they do a fine job crossing generations and oceans to discover the commonalities between Caribbean and the Iberian music, coming up with a romantic marriage of the two cultures using rumbas, guajira, sons and boleros. All the songs are classics out of the Latin music tradition, using just a handful of players in support. Valdes's fingers are delicate and prone to dramatic flourishes; Cigala's voice is pure flamenco in its hoarse intonation, cadence and emotional outpourings. The two masters make the union work by focusing on the drama of the love songs--"Veinte Años," "Inolvidable" and the title track are just three amazing examples--as fuel for some of the most exquisitely passionate music to come out in ages.--Read more

"The rhythm is gonna get you" is the tag line of one of Gloria Estefan's biggest hits, but it could also serve as the mantra for the Cuban-born singer's road to the top of the charts. Estefan's forte is middle-of-the-road pop, but all of her upbeat hits are fueled by driving Latin percussion, the feature that set Estefan's music apart from the rest of the flyaway pop of the 1980s and early '90s. 5-0 out of 5 stars I'm dancing as I write this!!!
While I am not a music connoisseur, I can tell you that my whole family LOVES this album. From my 34 yr. old husband right down to our 1 yr. old son and all others in between. You will not be disappointed! This is our favorite album of the summer and we try hard to be flamenco dancers while singing along and cleaning the house-it's quite a show, I assure you...

5-0 out of 5 stars Rumba Flamenca I love!
I must say that the Gypsy Kings are simply musical geniuses. Every song of theirs is a "Hit" in itself. The history of how they came together is also very fascinating. I grew up listening to these guys thanks to my dad. The first time I heard the Gypsy Kings was in 1991 (this is when I didn't even know who they were!). When sitting in the car, he would pop his cassette in the tape player and all of a sudden, this music would put me in a trance. I finally found out who they were in 96' and I was glad that I did. Bem, Bem Maria; Tu Quieres Volver, and El Verano are my all time favorites. I could listen to these 3 songs over and over and never get tired of it. It's not only the strong rhythm that they bring in their music, but its also the hard melody they play out in all of their studio recordings. For anyone who is reading this and is not familiar with the Gypsy Kings, I suggest you buy an album from them. I recommend "Volare! - The Very Best Of The Gipsy..." Since it has all their greatest hits. Once you do, you will fall in love with the sounds of Rumba Flamenca!

Editorial Review

The master of the love ballad--in at least six languages--has finally put his greatest hits, along with four new tracks, in a solid two-CD bilingual set. His early material from the 1970s is solid stuff that reminds us of Iglesias's initial allure--his voice, at once mellifluous, melancholy, and warm. His early magic is evident on such heat generators as the plaintive but ultimately uplifting "Hey," the haunting "Abrazame," and the moving "Manuela." He broke the U.S. market wide open in 1984 with the corny but impacting "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" with Willie Nelson. That song began a successful series of duets with other pop stars such as Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, and Diana Ross, all included here. Of poignant interest is "Summer Wind," sung with the late Frank Sinatra. Read more

Prior to purchasing this album, I had heard only one song before of Julio Iglesias and that was his duet, To All The Girls That I've Loved Before. This album has some great songs on it with one song that absolutely blew me away.It is a duet (Feelings) with a woman, which was recorded in concert, who has the most pure and beautiful voice that I have ever heard, be it man or woman. I don't know who it is as her name isn't listed, on the album information, and my internet searches have been without luck. The price for the album is worth it for that one song, in my opinion. ... As one of the driving forces in the French-Spanish ethno-punk band Mano Negra, songwriter-guitarist Chao delivers a surprising solo endeavor. Centered around a simple editorial writing style and an acoustic guitar, this album chronicles his political and personal travels around the world, studying the foibles of life in Latin America and the Caribbean, through Africa and back to Europe. 5-0 out of 5 stars First solo work by a genius
Before this, his debut solo album, Manu Chao had already become famous in front of musical troupe Mano Negra. Yet with "Clandestino" Manu Chao showed, like other legendary band leaders before him, the true caliber of his musical genius.
5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting...
It's like looking at a Monet, enjoying a piece of your favorite fruit in the beach at night, or backpacking through Latin America. Sorry for this explanation, but you just can't put in words the feelings and places this CD can take you to. It's definitely an experience, a compilation of melodies and flavors from different countries. Enjoy!

1-0 out of 5 stars Possibly politically interesting, but extremely dull musically
I read all the glowing reviews of this album, and all I can say is that it must be the case that you have to speak Spanish to enjoy it. Judging by the merits of the music itself, there is not a single song on the entire CD that ventures outside of an elementary and predictable 3 chord progression - 1-4-5-1 (or for the minor songs, which almost all of them are, - 1-6-7-1). It's as if the composer had a single musical idea and used it to beat his listeners to death. Even the somewhat unusual instrumentation become maddening after hearing it for 16 songs in a row.

The debut from Manu Chao, the former leader of French world-punks Lo Mano Negra, leaned heavily on Latin America for its inspiration, but this time around he's obviously been spending time--at least in his head--in the Caribbean. Reggae rhythms abound, and the opener "Merry Blues" features some wonderfully wonky Jamaican-style brass, while "Promiscuity" takes its cue from Trinidadian calypso. Of course, this being Chao, there are plenty of playful touches--from ringing cell phones to speeded-up vocals--and inevitably there are the Latin influences throughout to remind you of what remains close to his heart ("La Primavera" in particular is a standout). But there's also some recycling from the last album, with two pieces sharing the "King of Bongo" melody, including "Mr. Bobby," his tribute to Bob Marley, and that's a little worrying. Is Manu Chao running out of inspiration? Certainly this doesn't have the freshness ofRead more

i loved clandestino but this one has got me totally addicted. i've hardly listened to anything else lately. i just can't seem to take it out of my car's cd player. he sings in something like seven different languages. there's styles and joy all over the place. this is the record the whole world would make if it could only make one record.

4-0 out of 5 stars Report from the city
This record got very popular in Los Angeles around 2002-2003 among a very scruffy and tasty set.We aren't really that clueless (though this reviewer certainly is compared to the other reviewers here).I hear this record and Clandestina all over the city now, played from sound boards between sets, and in all the best places for young people who are fixing up the world for my old age.

5-0 out of 5 stars Que hora son mi corazon?
I first heard "Me Gustas Tu" in Europe almost five years ago, loved it immediately, and tried to find it when I got back to the United States.Unfortunately, while US culture spreads its music to the farthest reaches of the globe- come on, who hasn't heard of Britney Spears?- we don't absorb that much international music. This fantastic album was shelved in the World music section, a small and spooky aisle frequented only by strange-smelling hippies in wooden clogs and all-natural Mexican knitted shawls. The highlight of this album is right in the middle: the fantastic "Me Gustas Tu" and its short prequel, "La Primavera."I hope you enjoy Esperanza as much as I do.Cheers! ... Editorial Review

If Ricky Martin is the party boy of Latin crossover pop, Enrique Iglesias is more a romantic traditionalist in the mold of dad Julio. Even his uptempo, lust-driven tunes, like this album's "Love 4 Fun" and "One Night Stand," are hardly the frantic sweatfests Martin provides. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST
Enrique is my best male singer.. i love listening to any of his songs but my best is "Love for fun"..my friends thinks his style is sissy but i think he's music is unique..i never get tired of listening to his music day and night..'Don't turn off the lights" and "Escape" reminds me a lot of my days at an all-girls boarding school..we used to have social gatherings with a boys college and these two songs used to play at the dance programme..and we used to really love dancing to them...well, unfortunately, i don't really know the words to some of the songs..I'm kinda from a developing country and would love to know where i can get lyrics for enrique's songs... ... Young Argentine guitarist Federico Aubele became transfixed with the music of Astor Piazzolla even as he listened to the cool lounge sounds of Thievery Corporation and the Six Degrees label. Incredibly, he put these influences together for an exceptional debut album entitled Read more

Great cd. Nice mix of Argentine-Spanish music.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastico!
This music haunts me since I first heard it in Manoa over a year ago.I was in a CD shop when I heard them playing this and immediately bought it.I play it still and love it every time. The descriptions of it as down tempo flamenco and such are more or less accurate.I would just add that it is great, individual, highly melodic latin music. One of the best CDs of any genre i have heard in years. Buy it by all means!!! ... Read more

Born in Rome into a working-class family, hunky Italian pop idol Eros Ramazzotti first made his mark following a move to Milano in the mid-eighties. His career really took off in 1984, after he won the category of "New Voice" at the influential San Remo Festival for his song Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EROS Ramazzotti - Calma Apparente
This is one of the best CDs I have purchased in a long time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exquisite
Eros never ever disappoints... I don't know anyting about the people he works with, but they all must be prodigies. As you know the title of the album is "apparent calmness", and indeed there's a feeling of calmness throughout the album. For the most part, the beat is toned down and I love that. I think this is the perfect album to listen to whenever you want to be just on your own, away from everything... The lyrics will inspire you, the music will take your breath away. Thank you, Eros!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of his best Albums
By looking at this CD means that most probably you are aware of Italian music or have at least heard a song or two from Eros Ramazzotti. As this CD goes, in my humble opinion it is definitely one of his best, maybe a close second to his other album `EROS'. As for song eleven, `I Belong to you (Il Ritmo della Passione)' with Anastacia, is one of the best ballads I have ever heared. Most of the songs are simply beautiful and proofs why Eros is so well known in the international music scene.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love him :-()
I've loved Juanes since about 2001 when I saw him on the Latin Grammy's.I love Latin music and he's amazing (and hot too). His voice is great and the music is terrific.Sure, I don't necessarily know what he's singing about, but it sounds romantic and beautiful. My favourite song is A Dios Le Pido. It's great.I've got a couple of his cds, but this is the best of his.For all Latin lovers, go get this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Juggernaut
Juanes' chameleon like sophomore album is a lively, youthful, highly emotional, musical spree driven by masterful guitar and his evocative, soothing yet distinctly rock voice. It's one of the few albums of any musical artist I own that I can listen to straight through.

5-0 out of 5 stars As expected
If you like the movie, you'll love the music. It has the wonderful spanish guitar. Like most soundtracks, there are songs on this that you may not recognize from the movie, but are just as enjoyable.

5-0 out of 5 stars desperado-soundtrack
very good soundtrack.many soundtracks only have one or two good songs, this is not case with this cd.also very pleased with amazon's handling of my purchase.arrived within a week, perfect condition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Soundtracks don't get any better than this.
Desperado...the best action movie I've seen in my life. It had it all. Great characters, intense action scenes, a simple but rewarding plot, and of course, a flawless soundtrack. Most of the time when someone buys a soundtrack, they go on about how great it is...for a few weeks. And almost never listen to it again. That's not the case here. Sometimes, I'd watch the movie just to hear the music used in it. It's that good. Heck, even when it's shown on tv, I'll watch it for a quick fix for the music. Even if it's just the opening credits bit. Simply put, Robert Rodriguez out did himself with the movie, and the music. There's not a bad track on here. But there is one minor gripe- not all of the tracks from the movie are on the album. And one of them is a slower version of what's shown in the movie.
