5-0 out of 5 stars Remastered Version Has Great Sound
This new re-mastered version of the classic "Exodus" by Bob Marley boasts truly improved sonics over the original. If you like Reggae, you can't go wrong with this release of the classic Reggae masterpiece. On the other hand,Time magazine called this record " the most important LP release of the 20th century." Give me a break. The writer must have been smoking some pretty good reefer when she wrote that. For a while it was considered ultra-chic for white people to listen to Reggae, hence the hyperbolic Time review of this record.I'll skip the Reggae "deep philosophy" and the seriously spaced out and comic book Rastafarian religion ( I mean honestly, these guys claim that the late Ethiopian dictator Haile Selassie, was God, the Creator of the Universe...now, isn't that silly?) please, and just listen to the music. And on that level, this is good stuff when the mood is right, and the sound is excellent, tight, bright, good bass, all around a great, maybe even timeless, Reggae record.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exodus - true album of the century
The story behind Exodus is worthy of a book - in fact there is a book on the making of Exodus. This and the follow-up 'Kaya' were recorded and assembled in London in the 18 months following the attempted assassination of Marley in December 1976. The first side of the album (old-school vinyl fans know what I mean) is pure revolutionary reggae rock: Natural Mystic, So Much Things to Say, Heathen, Guiltiness, and Exodus. Drop-dead master reggae powered by the brother team of Aston 'Family Man' Barrett on bass and Carlton Barrett on drums.
4-0 out of 5 stars Overated but yes good.
I am a huge Bob Marley fan and always have been for about 20 years now, but listening to Exodus doesn't give me the same thrill as of the over albums such as Uprising, Natty Dread and Survival.

4-0 out of 5 stars New Style Salsa and Latin Flavors
Putumayo always puts out a quality product, and this disc is no exception. The collection of salsa and latin rhythyms is a collection spanning several countries, but all of the tracks are lively upbeat and fun. several of the tracks include electronic elements, such as electric drumbeats and samples. This allows the listeners to see what is being done with a now classic genre to revitalize it. this new generation of Salseros breathes new life into a now-classic music style.
5-0 out of 5 stars TRULY A SENSATIONAL PIECE!
This music makes you want to get up and dance! The first few tracks are the best, but the whole CD is very good. I could not stop listening to son fro by africando and many more. Hide this CD because once you pop it in, your friends will never want to give it back to you. After owning gypsy caravan, afro-latino, afro latin party, salsa around the world, cuba and many more i have come to say that this is one of the best putumayo we have seen up to date. Also check out putumayo colombia-It is sure to get you dancing like you have never danced before!

What a great CD. I love every cut.Everyone is aware of Brasil '66 but this Brasil '65 should not be overlooked.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Memories
I was 15 when I discovered "Sergio Mendes & Brazil 65". I'd never heard of Sergio Mendes, but there was something about the cover that intrigued me. This was the beginning of a love afair with Brazilian music that has never faded over the years. I played the heck out of this record. I still have it, battered cover and all in my collection. After the dawn of CD's I often looked for it in record stores, but I never found it. What a jewel to discover here! (I only wish it had the original cover.) After 36 years it has lost none of its beauty and power.

I discovered this album because of the song, "Aguas De Marco."Each of the two artists is talented on his/her own; but, the combination is greater than the sum of its parts.
5-0 out of 5 stars A romantic and credible album by two Brazillian greats
Antonio Carlos Jobim wrote some of teh most beautiful Brazillian jazz and Bossa Nova songs, and Elis Regina was one of the great Bossa Nova singers, so it was natural in the 60's taht they should collaborate. They did!And with loads of charm, roamnce, wit and sensuality. This albu mcaptures Regina at her peak, and the songs are exellent. The album has a Bossa Nova jazz flow, and Regina's vocals gently swing.A great album~! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Marley...Needs No Review
This CD needs no review... Bob Marley's reputation and music speaks for itself.
5-0 out of 5 stars you should probably own this
Chances are, if you have heard a Bob Marley and the Wailers cd playing it is probably Legend. This set is a nice casual introduction to the band that started the worldwide reggae movement. it was released in 1984 3 years after Bob Marley died, and includes many hits that you are probably familiar with. Songs from all the albums are not included here which is the only downfall of this disc. The booklet that comes with the cd is a good way to learn about this legendary man and his band the Wailers. The Wailers are one of the most talented groups of musicians ever, and the instrumentation and variety on this disc proves it.

Shakira conquered Spanish-speaking audiences with the intriguing "Pies Descalzos", but it is this album that remains the most pivotal moment of her career. "Dnde Estn los Ladrones?" was Shakira's breakthrough, the album that established her internationally as a unique force in the music industry.

5-0 out of 5 stars An awesome ( for lack of a better word ) CD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Parfait
Si je devais choisir parmi ma collection mes dix albums pr?f?r?s, Man?
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most beautiful pop records ever made
I'm listening to this disc as I write. I remember the first time I heard/saw it: wandering through a Sanborn's store in Mexico City -- I stopped cold and viewed the DVD on an instore TV for ten or fifteen minutes, absolutely captivated. Shortly thereafter, it was mine, as was the DVD (which adds a whole other dimension). I would put "Mana Unplugged" in my top twenty discs of all time. The group is the Mexican Beatles: writers of exquisite pop songs with heart, beautifully crafted, played with vigour and a little rock-n-roll swagger, and also a progressive political bent that comes through on songs like "Ana" and their terrific cover of Ruben Blades' "Desapariciones." The love songs, from "Vivir Sin Aire" to "El Muelle de San Blas" to "Rayando El Sol," are among the few that consistently bring tears to my eyes. And the playing has the attention to technique and subtlety that characterizes Latin music more than its North American or Western European equivalent. As an advantage for the non-Spanish speaker, the CD comes with translations of the lyrics of most of the songs. These lose some of the poetry, but at least let you know what's going on thematically. A magnificent, unmissable record. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This 1995 tribute to the late Brazilian bossa nova master draws from the cream of the Verve/Polygram jazz catalog. Saxophonist Stan Getz, who introduced the sublimely sensual bossa nova to North American audiences in the early '60s, is joined by vocalist João Gilberto on the well-known title track and by guitarist Luiz Bonfa on the exquisite "O Morro Nao Tem Vez." Sarah Vaughan ("Corcovado"), Billy Eckstine ("Felicidade"), Wes Montgomery ("How Insensitive"), and Oscar Peterson ("Wave") also turn in classic performances from the '60s. Jobim himself offers guitar and piano accompaniment on several tracks and duets with Brazilian vocalist Elis Regina on "Aguas de Marco." Although subsequent generations of lame lounge singers have robbed bossa nova of its original mystique, in its pure form, this music is unsurpassed in conveying an intimately romantic mood with carefree sophistication. Recognizing that the holiday season really begins at Halloween (and, in some quarters, doesn't end until the Super Bowl), Vince Guaraldi and his record company have wisely assembled the hummable themes from various Charlie Brown TV specials. What we have here is the album's ability to communicate the playful irony and loopy, lovable characters that people Charles Schultz's "Peanuts" comic strip every week. Though only one actual Christmas tune is included--"Christmas Time Is Here," in both the vocal and instrumental versions--kids from ages 1 to 92 will still appreciate the "Great Pumpkin Waltz," the "Thanksgiving Theme," oddities such as "Heartburn Waltz" and "Joe Cool," and, of course, the "Charlie Brown Theme." Vince guaraldi often gets a bad wrap from jazz critics, claiming that his music is soft and not deep enough to be considered great.I couldnt disagree with them more, after thelonius Monk he is the easiest jazz pianist to recognize upon listening to.His playing sings with a sense of joy unlike anybody else. And his best music was written for the peanuts cartoons.

Marc Anthony is excellent as always. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is that I was disappointed to find out that the album contains "salsa" versions of the songs played on the radio such as Ahora Quien. The version I heard on the radio is more of a ballad style as is Tu Amor me Hace Bien. Since I prefer the slower versions there was a bit of a disappointment for me since I still have to buy the slower versions. Other than that I love the album.

This CD is amazing! From the first time I heard it in a record store, I havn't stopped listening to it...such a refreshing change from the top 10 and mainstream. It has all the latin flavor without being overbearing. Anyone will appreciate this CD especially those who like to move! Some songs are a bit slow but even those make great mood music. Even though its a short album - I promise you won't ever skip a song! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Putumayo is amazing
Putumayo has introduced me to so much great music! They have really good taste! They choose music you wouldn't normally hear and yet it's not too folksy- it's great to listen to. This is one of my favorite CDs by them. It cheers you up so much to listen to it and you can just imagine the bright blue sea off the coast of Cuba. In fact, this CD was so good- every song- that it got me into Cuban music and I've been delving into Cuban music ever since.

4-0 out of 5 stars Buena coleccion de son cubano

5-0 out of 5 stars Vintage Putumayo
Living in the Wine Country,I looked forward to the release of this CD.After all, vineyards and wineries are part of my daily life.I wondered if this album would be a dud like "Music from the Coffee Lands" (a decaffeinated compilation if there ever was one)or a hit like "Music from the Tea Lands"(Putumayo's first Asian compilation, and one of its best)This CD proved to not be a disappointment.
