I love the music. Great for dinner and it makes you want to go out dancing. So fun, creative and lively. I wish there were more out there like this one! I love "El Cuarto de Tulo" and "Candela". Even if you aren't a dancer, I dare you- try and sit still with this playing! It'll make you feel like you're on vacation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I watched this documentary on IFC a month ago, and while the credit were running I was on amazon ordering the CD. I have played it almost everyday. This is wonderful, even my 16 year old think its good, after I told im the backgound of the band, he was amazed. This is a must for music lovers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Respect Due
Even though he's no Rude Bwoy, Sean Paul has expanded the notion of dancehall (at least in the US) more than any single artist since Shabba brought it to Carribean Riddims (BET) back in the day.Without question b/c of Sean Paul future dancehall artists have the opportunity for more visibility and more money.Point Blank.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Traveling Music
I'm not a big reggue fan but this CD is a good one. This CD is better than the last one and has a lot of real upbeat dance tracks. The music is so good you seem to forget the explicit references to the female anatomy, which is hidden behing the accent. Being somewhat conservative I was surprised about some of the lyrics after I listened to it for the 50th time. But all in all, the overall message is that he likes having a good time and that's better than some of the other themes that are on the music scene these days. So overall it will make you feel "Eyeree" which is the point for making music in the first place. :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST BUY EVER!
This Sean Paul album is HOTT! I would say it's the best CD buy I've ever made and now I'm in love with it. Some excellent songs include Temperature, We Be Burnin', Eye Deh A Mi Knee (My favorite song ever, it doesn't get enough attention), the trinity, head in the zone, and send it on. the single "give it up to me" i don't really like, and it shouldn't have been a single, but the rest of the album is GREAT. love to dance? this is the one you've been waiting for.

I had not bought one of Marc's albums in a while and the playlist looked good, so i bought it, and to my surprise ITS ONE OF MY FAV cds.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Collection of Marc Anthony Classics
Forget JLo, and the tabloid press, and just listen to the beauty of Marc Anthony's voice. He shines particularly on the pure hot salsa numbers. The ballads are all a little saccharine with all those violin strings, but the voice is still magic. It's a mystery why the songs in Spanish are always superior to the ones in English. Perhaps English just isn't a very romantic language. Anyhow, if you are looking for arrangements that have the big horn section power of Sinatra and the masculine voice to match, don't go buy Harry Connick Jr., give Marc Anthony a try.

His first solo effort, sans The Mavericks, is a great debut! His rich, strong tenor carries these songs well. The title track 'Today' is a lively upbeat number about being in love. 'I Said I Love You, and 'It Takes Two To Tango' are great showcases of his voice.

This is Jobim's finest album, although Stone Flower and Tide are certainly worth checking out.The songwriting on this album is sublime, the arrangements are brilliant and the execution is flawless. The melodies are minimal, yet strikingly elegant: they are small but very effective, impressionistic tone poems, each exquisite in its own right.

Jamaican filmmaker Perry Henzell made reggae an integral playerin his gritty 1973 saga of arenegade Kingston singer who becomes a modern Robin Hood, casting oneof the style's earliest stars, Jimmy Cliff, in thelead, and filling this soundtrack--here presented in a remasteredversion--with classics from Toots & the Maytals ("Pressure Drop,""Sweet and Dandy"), Desmond Dekker ("Shanty Town"), the Melodians("Rivers of Babylon"), and the Slickers ("Johnny Too Bad"). Cliffhimself gets pole position, however, getting in the first ("You Can GetIt If You Really Want") and last ("The Harder They Come") words in thisfirst-rate reggae primer, which also features Cliff's enduring "ManyRivers to Cross." 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Cuban Music
This is a great example of Cuban music. There are 3 cuts on the album that have great 'feeling' and make you 'dream' of dancing with a lovely latin girl. If you happen to be dancing with a lovely latin girl, then you are all the luckier. Cuts 2, 6 and 9 are very rhythmic, and are great for 'close' dancing. Cut 9, is known in the English speaking world as "Green Eyes". I don't know the Spanish lyrics for cuts 2 and 6, but I hope they are very seductive.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful
I wasn't a Ry Cooder fan but I've discovered respect for him after these associations. Previous posters seem to think that Ry Cooder was the only guitarist, which would be a surprise to Manuel Galban. Ibrahim's voice is as amazing as his story. BVSC the film is basically a film of the sessions for this album. I think Ry deserves 'props' for bringing this music to a much wider audience than was expected. I'm sure people will read that as a 'whiter' audience as well. Lighten up, shake off the ghost and dance.

This cd was the first of many brazilian bossa novas I've bought.I heard the Girl from Ipanema on a complilation jazz cd and was hooked then.I don't aggree w/ the above reviewers who don't like the orchestral arrangements? Are you nuts? This album is fantastic! Its actually two albums, and I love every song. I grew up listening to mostly r/b and this style is second only to that for me.
4-0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece PLUS a great album
As many reviewers have said, tracks 9-14 are worth the price of the album. These tracks are simply astonishing.I first heard three or four of them over the internet and on various mix CDs that my friends had.I was drawn to "Aquarela do Brasil" and "Disse Alguem" especially, and you could tell that it was the same session.I told myself I had to find such an album.(You see Mr. Record Company, many file sharers do go out and buy CDs!)5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, Joao Gilberto Singing
I've heard that Mr. Gilberto, being very shy and a little strange, would not go into the studio for Amoroso, so they went to his house to record and he sang and played in his pajamas. Then Claus came along and added the quite wonderful arrangements afterwards.Perhaps that explains the slight out of synch feel.Read more

This dynamic duo of Dominican pianist-composer Michel Camilo and Spanish flamenco guitarist Tomatito is an intricate improvisational exchange that traverses the Afro-Iberian world, from the Moorish castles of Alhambra to the azure-tinged Caribbean coasts of Havana and Santo Domingo. Camilo and Tomatito met in Spain in the early 1990s, performed together in 1997, and toured in the summer of 1999. Camilo's florid and fleet-fingered, classically trained pianism is a beautiful counterpoint to Tomatito's passionate, plectral poetry, which combines the precision of the great classical guitaristAndrés Segovia and the flair of Paco De Lucia. Together, they reinterpret the works of several Latin composers with vigor and vitality, including Consuelo Velazquez's immortal bolero/cancion, "Besame Mucho," and Luis Salinas's elegant "Aire de Tango." Camilo's "Two Much/Love Theme" and Tomatito's "La Vacilona" highlight the depth and breadth of their interplay. They reach their zenith on "Spain Intro," their incredible adapted Joaquin Rodrigo's Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A glimpse into their awesome chemistry!
I regularly go the Blue Note here in NYC and got the chance to see Michel Camilo live on this one night.I didn't expect to see what I saw! I've always known how awesome a pianist Michel Camilo is but when I saw Tomatito, I was in awe of Tomatito's technique. I was about 10 feet away from him and I couldn't figure out how he was getting all those beautiful sounds. I was so anxious to get the CD but everywhere I turned to didn't have it.When I got it, I was a little disappointed.Just a little...When I saw them live, THEY WERE 10 TIMES BETTER THAN ON THE CD, if you can imagine that! The CD doesn't do them justice but it comes pretty close.

The recording quality is superb, and the artistic balance just perfect. Nobody on top of anybody.Camilo's versatility is outstanding: from tango-to rumba-to bulerias with an amazing fluidity. I wish the pair had recorded a few more tunes for this CD.But I am being selfish here.Recommended without reservations and indispensable for those who love "latin jazz". ... Read more

While Antonio Carlos Jobim is an essential figure in the music of Brazil, he also created a significant place for himself in American music as a great songwriter and a key figure in the tremendous popularity of bossa nova. Apart from his unique melodic gift, what makes Jobim's work memorable is the complexity of mood he could evoke--the touch of sadness that colors the brightest bossa nova, the irony in the midst of joy, and the mixture of delicacy and resilience in his voice and piano. He was an artist who worked primarily in pastels, but it was his sense of shadows that gave his work its most enduring qualities. Including his most famous tunes and collaborators--like "The Girl from Ipanema" with Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto--Jobim's Read more

For a while it was considered ultra-chic for white people to listen to Reggae, hence the hyperbolic Time review of this record.I'll skip the Reggae "deep philosophy" and the seriously spaced out and comic book Rastafarian religion ( I mean honestly, these guys claim that the late Ethiopian dictator Haile Selassie, was God, the Creator of the Universe...now, isn't that silly?) please, and just listen to the music. And on that level, this is good stuff when the mood is right, and the sound is excellent, tight, bright, good bass, all around a great, maybe even timeless, Reggae record.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exodus - true album of the century
The story behind Exodus is worthy of a book - in fact there is a book on the making of Exodus. This and the follow-up 'Kaya' were recorded and assembled in London in the 18 months following the attempted assassination of Marley in December 1976. The first side of the album (old-school vinyl fans know what I mean) is pure revolutionary reggae rock: Natural Mystic, So Much Things to Say, Heathen, Guiltiness, and Exodus. Drop-dead master reggae powered by the brother team of Aston 'Family Man' Barrett on bass and Carlton Barrett on drums.
4-0 out of 5 stars Overated but yes good.
I am a huge Bob Marley fan and always have been for about 20 years now, but listening to Exodus doesn't give me the same thrill as of the over albums such as Uprising, Natty Dread and Survival.

Even as greatest hits packages go, this is an utter gem. Every song is inspired, in a class of its own, whether the real version of "I Shot the Sheriff," the hymnlike "No Woman, No Cry," or the sheer joy of "Jamming." Even allowing that Marley never wrote any bad material, then Read more

This CD needs no review... Bob Marley's reputation and music speaks for itself.
5-0 out of 5 stars you should probably own this
Chances are, if you have heard a Bob Marley and the Wailers cd playing it is probably Legend. This set is a nice casual introduction to the band that started the worldwide reggae movement. it was released in 1984 3 years after Bob Marley died, and includes many hits that you are probably familiar with. Songs from all the albums are not included here which is the only downfall of this disc. The booklet that comes with the cd is a good way to learn about this legendary man and his band the Wailers. The Wailers are one of the most talented groups of musicians ever, and the instrumentation and variety on this disc proves it.

This 1995 tribute to the late Brazilian bossa nova master draws from the cream of the Verve/Polygram jazz catalog. Saxophonist Stan Getz, who introduced the sublimely sensual bossa nova to North American audiences in the early '60s, is joined by vocalist João Gilberto on the well-known title track and by guitarist Luiz Bonfa on the exquisite "O Morro Nao Tem Vez." Sarah Vaughan ("Corcovado"), Billy Eckstine ("Felicidade"), Wes Montgomery ("How Insensitive"), and Oscar Peterson ("Wave") also turn in classic performances from the '60s. Jobim himself offers guitar and piano accompaniment on several tracks and duets with Brazilian vocalist Elis Regina on "Aguas de Marco." Although subsequent generations of lame lounge singers have robbed bossa nova of its original mystique, in its pure form, this music is unsurpassed in conveying an intimately romantic mood with carefree sophistication. 5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing
I've had this cd for about 10 years now, and I've loved every minute of it again and again. Every song has its own beauty, in a very diverse way. The performance in "Chega de Saudade" is particularly riveting, each instrument delivering an absolutely perfect solo.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!
These are the most beautiful collection of songs from Jobim, if you want the best of the best from this song-writer-performer, this is it! Loved it.

Recognizing that the holiday season really begins at Halloween (and, in some quarters, doesn't end until the Super Bowl), Vince Guaraldi and his record company have wisely assembled the hummable themes from various Charlie Brown TV specials. What we have here is the album's ability to communicate the playful irony and loopy, lovable characters that people Charles Schultz's "Peanuts" comic strip every week. Though only one actual Christmas tune is included--"Christmas Time Is Here," in both the vocal and instrumental versions--kids from ages 1 to 92 will still appreciate the "Great Pumpkin Waltz," the "Thanksgiving Theme," oddities such as "Heartburn Waltz" and "Joe Cool," and, of course, the "Charlie Brown Theme." 3-0 out of 5 stars The music is Good, but this isnt the charlie brown album to buy.
Vince guaraldi often gets a bad wrap from jazz critics, claiming that his music is soft and not deep enough to be considered great.I couldnt disagree with them more, after thelonius Monk he is the easiest jazz pianist to recognize upon listening to.His playing sings with a sense of joy unlike anybody else. And his best music was written for the peanuts cartoons.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hey Scrooge! Buy this album. And Merry Christmas!

I've been a Peanuts fan for as long as I can remember!I've had this disk for a few years, but I take it out several times a year and play it, and it brings back all of those great melodies from all of those great Peanuts' specials.

Marc Anthony is excellent as always. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is that I was disappointed to find out that the album contains "salsa" versions of the songs played on the radio such as Ahora Quien. The version I heard on the radio is more of a ballad style as is Tu Amor me Hace Bien. Since I prefer the slower versions there was a bit of a disappointment for me since I still have to buy the slower versions. Other than that I love the album.
