The lead voice of Stax Records' powerhouse soul duo Sam and Dave returns to reclaim his legacy here with a collection of familiar r&b catalog choices framed by slick, decidedly contemporary productions. If the project's crowded supporting cast -- Springsteen, Clapton, Wynonna, Sting, Bon Jovi, Winwood, Paul Rodgers, Mariah Carey, Vince Gill and Billy Gibbons among the most notable -- sometimes makes Moore seem like a guest on his own album, their admittedly marketing-driven presence nonetheless helps showcase a seminal soul artist for an Read more

This record should have been done without ANY guests! Mariah Carey's vocals on "Make Believe" ruin the track...Sam sounds great throughout-Call Buddy Miller!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sam Moore and Company CD is Excellent
Sam Moore's new CD is a welcome return to the roots of soul. This CD has got IT!Sam's voice is superb and the duets he does with his guests are wonderful.I'm not a fan of country music so I was a bit fearful of what Wynona and Travis Tritt would do with Sam.Wow!Are they ever good!Wynona's got it.I'm going to listen to more of her now.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not all duets are made in Heaven....
Sam's voice is still in decent shape, but this set is just awkward. Star studded album isn't always the best way to cash in on an againg star. The last great album Sam did was over 30 years ago and that's the one you need to get (Plenty Good Lovin': The Lost Solo Album).

4-0 out of 5 stars Incredible.
Wow! Just when you're wondering if Coldplay can keep it up or have blown all their cookies producing Parachutes and A Rush of Blood..., boy, do they kick you in the pants to put you straight. This is more complex, more dynamic, simply more dazzling than anything they've produced so far (well, except for The Scientist. Doubt if they'll ever top that!). Too cool by far. If you loved their other stuff, boy, are you going to writhe in ecstacy over this. Best tracks? I could say all of them, but if I have to narrow it down- What if?, Swallowed in the Sea, 'Til Kingdom Come. Buy this!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great One from Cold Play
Songwriting and music equals that of A Rush of Blood to the Head. Possibly a more mature sound.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, absolutely beautiful
I would have written a review for this album sooner, but I was too busy listening. It will be hard to top this record.Every song is absolutely amazing.I haven't heard a record with this much mood since Pink Floyd's "dark side of the moon", I truely believe this record will hold its place with phenomenal albums such as the above mentioned.FIX YOU, has a special place in my heart and will until the day I die.

Editorial Review

With her expressively breathy vocals and uplifting melodies, Mindy Smith expresses both the romantic and spiritual dimensions of rapture. It can occasionally be hard to tell whether Smith is singing of God or love, or if she even makes a distinction between the two. Whether she's invoking prayer and sin in the opening "Out Loud," hoping that God's looking out for her in "Out of Control," casting a seductive charmer as a "Little Devil," or recalling her preacher father in the title track, Smith's material blurs the distinction between the earthly and the ethereal. Her duet with kindred spirit Buddy Miller on "What If the World Stops Turning" highlights the album, though the Nashville-based artist rarely hints at country within her buoyant brand of folk-pop. 5-0 out of 5 stars Just as good as the debut
Mindy Smith's One Moment More was a very good debutthat mixed folk and pop. I do not see why some are disappointed with Long Island Shores. From the soaring opener "Out Loud," it very rarely lets up. "Little Devil" has a neat pop/rock part. "Edge Of Love" is beautiful, pure folk. "I'm Not The Only One Asking" reminds me of the rootsy blues on One Moment More. This album is no more flat than fine efforts from Shawn Colvin and Alison Krauss (her newer efforts.) The lyrics show a songwriter that's gotten more experience. I will be getting this CD.

2-0 out of 5 stars 2.5 stars to be precise
Great vocals does not a great song make.Yes, her vocals are comprable to that of Patty Griffin, but Patty Griffin she ain't.None of the songs on this album will be remembered past tomorrow and you can't make mediocre songs amazing just with vocals. There has to be music and lyrics to go along with the vocals to make you feel what the songs are saying.I feel nothing for any of these songs. They are mostly lazily written tunes without an ounce of emotion.
3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Second Effort
As with her first album "One Moment More", Mindy Smith's voice is amazing on this second release "Long Island Shore". But, I found the music uninspiring and flat. I don't know if the choice in direction was Mindy's or the producers, but this is not the same kind of music that will necessarily appeal to all of the fans of the first album.

5-0 out of 5 stars As Good as it Gets
Clearly one of the greatest albums you could select for turning the lights off, cranking up the stereo, and enjoying the mood. Pink Floyd was so good in the Animals/Dark Side/Wish You Were Here/Wall albums, it's hard to pick the best among them. Depends on the mood.
1-0 out of 5 stars I finally confronted my nightmare
I found one of the most depressing albums of all time, and it was under my nose. There's only one real saving grace off this album, and that was "Shine On You Crazy Diamond(Part One)" It was a rather dark, stark, and yet beautiful piece, but I can't say that for the second part of the song which you have to endure through 3 horrible songs just to get to. "Welcome To The Machine" is boring as well as depressing it seems like it's never ending like "Tuesday Afternoon" "Have A Cigar" is also long-winded, and depressing, "Wish You Were Here" it's not the greatest, but it's also not that bad either. I also realized that there was some conflict going on with the group, and Capitol Records after "Dark Side Of The Moon" wound up being so successful, and made the group move over to Columbia Records, and a perchance meeting with former frontman Syd Barrett during the recording of this album was also noted. He was only 29 when he saw them again, and it looked like he aged 35 years by then. Which is the same spirit I got when I heard this album all the way through on December 18, 1993. It was a boring Saturday night in Florida, and I had nothing to do with myself except to put my brother's Floyd cd collection onto cassette tapes. I don't wish to be there again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still to this day my favorite David Gilmour/Roger Waters-era Pink Floyd record. And that's saying an awful lot....
This coming from a guy who also cites 'Meddle','Dark Side Of The Moon' and 'The Wall' as his other three all-time D.G./R.W -era Pink Floyd albums. That and the live disc on 'Ummagumma'..

Editorial Review

This album's title cut finds the veteran folk-blues troubadour, now in his early 60s, pondering the possibility of living to be 100, thus setting the thematic tone for an uncommonly reflective, meditative set. The ragtime Zen of "Open Up," the philosophical "Seems So Real," and the rock-bottom despair in his cover of Peter Case's "Cold Trail Blues" all suggest that the virtuosic fingerpicker and evocatively smoky vocalist has reached a point in his life where he's pondering the biggest issues of mortality, a perspective that informs the complex relationship in "Father's Day."Not all of the material is that introspective, as the uptempo, electric rock of "Diplomacy" is as sardonic as Randy Newman, while "Origin of the Species" encapsulates Adam and Eve, Charles Darwin, and intelligent design. Smither also pays homage to two seminal influences, transforming Bob Dylan's "Visions of Johanna" into an acoustic, accordion-laced waltz and reviving Lightnin' Hopkins's version of the traditional "Blues in the Bottle." Ollabelle provide harmonies on two cuts, with mandolinist Tim O' Brien also offering instrumental and vocal support. Read more

An enviable multitasker, M. Ward deftly charts the varied dusty soundscapes of Americana. Since 2005, he's toured with the White Stripes, coproduced the debut from Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis, compiled a John Fahey tribute, and relocated from Oregon to New Hampshire--and that's just to start. Somehow, he found time to knock out Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A triumph - and one of the best of 2006
I happened to catch M. Ward in a live performance on "Letterman," and rushed out the very next day to buy the CD. I think the tune he performed was "Chinese Translation," which is among the many standouts on this excellent disc. I would rank this as the second-best release of the year so far - right beneath Neko Case's "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood" (and it's no surprise that Ms. Case herself makes a cameo appearance here - talent tends to attract talent). Trying to place this disc into a genre is a bit difficult, but I sort of like the "lo-fi indie folk" term used by another reviewer. But this is not coffee-house snooze music by any stretch of the imagination. On tunes like "Magic Trick" you can hear echoes of the loose, raucous sound that used to be the trademark of King Bruce and the E Street-ers themselves. Genre almost doesn't matter, though, with music this good. Buy it, slip it into your car stereo and take a long drive - preferably out in the country. I guarantee you'll keep it in your car player for weeks, if not months.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful album -- a Voice from the roots of Americana music
I just saw M. Ward last night in San Diego -- what a show!Every song was beautifully rendered, particularly the great songs from Post-War (the newest album). This album is rootsy -- reaching back into the best of the Blues, early jazz, country, folk -- and yet also modern in the sense of being "lo-fi" and "alt-rock" yet not so self-conscious as other practitioners of those "genres" of music.Buy this album and enjoy the mostly mellow, well-thought out tones and lyrics. And see him live with his talented backing band if you ever get the chance!

5-0 out of 5 stars Right in the Head

Better known as the "White Album," this was meant to be the record that brought them back to earth after three years of studio experimentation. Instead, it took them all over the place, continuing to burst the envelope of pop music. Lennon and McCartney were still at the height of their powers, with Lennon in particular growing into one of rock's towering figures. But even McCartney could still rock, and the amazement on "Helter Skelter" was that he had vocal cords at the end. From Beach Boys knock-offs to reggae and to the unknown ("Revolution #9"), this has it all. Some records have Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars panhandling the cu*ts
Hi, my name's Joao, I have heard anything by this group from Starclub in Hamburg sessions to Twickenham outtakes and beyond to the Ringo Rotogravure and Wings @ the speed of sound and although this bunch is familiar for burning holes in people's pockets with their trite melodies (i would suggest maladies) and nonexistant depth in lyrics (think: 'I once had a girl', 'one to three four can I have a little more' and for instance 'because you're sweet and lovely girl I love you').
5-0 out of 5 stars The greatest album from the greatest band
If I were trapped on a deserted island for eternity and could only have one album with me to pass the time, it would be the White Album. It is the most diverse, interesting and well crafted album ever made. The songs range from rock to country to surfer rock to heavy metal to folk to camp to progressive to the just plain weird. The unparelled songwriting genius of Lennon and McCartney is well on display here as is there obvious differences in style. Harrison also emerges on the White Album and showcases his best song ever "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Some may point to "Sgt Pepper" as the Beatles crowning achievement, I point directly and emphatically to the White Album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Consistent exellence!
You can't truly appreciate what Tommy Emmanuel can do on the guitar without seeing him in concert. Still, "The Mystery," the third in Tommy Emmanuel's series of mostly solo acoustic work is intensely satisfying and great listening, whatever your level of exposure to "TE". While many finger-style guitarists are able to generate a lot of notes with their solo playing, none compare with TE in the way he serves up song after song of really, really good music. These songs are great melodies played flawlessly (and apparently effortlessly) by a master of his art.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sigh.Fabulous, as always
I think we own every DC ever made by Tommy, even the obscure stuff (anyone remember "The Day the Fingerpickers Took Over the World" with Chet Atkins?).You will never go wrong with a Tommy Emmuel CD.His music, while following a familiar theme of folksy/country style with the occasional rock-ish tune thrown in, is ever-new while still feeling comfortable.Kind of like wearing your favorite slippers. Tommy is known as an instrumentalist, so the odd real song (as opposed to a piece, which is what you call an instrumental item)is an interesting surprise on any of his CDs.The song "Walls" is one of those nice surprises. This CD sounds more introspective than many of his others -- it reminds me of the his earlier music, which was almost purely guitar. There are very few, if any pieces on this CD that have more than just Tommy and his guitar playing.I can tell even now that this will get a lot of play in my house. And yes, the previous reviewer was right;Tommy Emmanuel is one of, if not the, best guitar players in the world. ... Read more

Rod Stewart's mellowing years have neatly coincided with a commitment to smart ballad choices and a generally warmer musical persona. Rod the Mod liberated at last? Like many a pop singer, Stewart returns here to what's become generally known as the Great American Songbook, that evergreen body of mid-20th century songcraft that continues to inspire singers across oceans and generations. It's said that Stewart has been vocalizing many of these songs in private for years, and given the warm, human scale of most of the performances here, it's not hard to believe. Producer Phil Ramone's spare, unobtrusive arrangements inspire the singer to some of his most subtle and rewarding performances in years. Stewart's slightly weary vocal tack handsomely suggests the smoke, booze, and aching heart that lie at the best of these songs. Such back-to-the-future efforts can often sound like a last career gasp; here, they seem a refreshing breath of fresh air. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable
First off to avoid any conflict of interest claims I admit that I an a huge Rod Stewart fan. That being said, I just wasn't interested in hearing him do the old American classics(which I also love). I just didn't see how he could do them justice, that is, until I saw his DVD "Live from Royal Albert Hall" in which he did several of the songs from his first "Great American Songbook". I was just blown away. These songs were now his. I went to the computer to order one of the CDs but my wife talked me into getting all three and I am surely not sorry. I believe that there are very few CDs available with no weak tracks(there are some) but here are three that just don't have a weak track(IMHO). He has made all of these great songs his. My all time favorite song is "Stardust" by Hoagy Carmichael. I had never heard a version that I thought could top his, until now. If you love the old standards you should really give these 3 CDs a listen. They'll melt your heart!!!! ... Read more

In an industry dogged too much by cookie-cutter artists, Mat Kearney is a real breath of fresh air. Let's be honest: What music exec would ever suggest that a blending of John Mayer-like subtle pop, Toby Mac-like rap, and Chris Martin-esque vocals could be rolled together for a winning combination? 4-0 out of 5 stars Good!
I saw Mat Kearney when he opened for Jason Mraz in Boise, and thought he was talented and enjoyable to listen to. After the show I wondered over to the merch table and they had two more copies of his CD there and I decided to buy one. When I was leaving the show I actually walked right by Mat but decided not to bother him.
3-0 out of 5 stars Like the singing but I could do without the rapping
As others have pointed out Mat Kearney's voice is very similar to Chris Martin which personally I found appealling. I previewed several of his tracks and was very pleased with what I heard. However on a much closer listen I found the rapping that was interspersed throughout several of the tracks to be extremely distracting. One minute great vocals, great melody and then suddenly here comes the rap which for some reason reminds me of another artist Trik Turner. On some tracks this was fine as going into it the rap started immediately so you knew what was ahead but in others it came out of nowhere. If you plan on purchasing this album I'd suggest borrowing a friend's copy, library, etc first to make sure this is something enjoy. I mainly recommend this because I've seen that the single 'Nothing Left to Lose' is receiving airplay on VH1 and other areas and could give you a false impression of what the overall album sounds like.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bullet, Revised
I first saw Mat Kearney in concert opening for Shane & Shane about 2 1/2 years ago.I'm a huge Shane & Shane fan but I have to say I was so blown away by Mat that he totally stood them up!He truly is a beath of fresh air plus the fact that he sounds like Coldplay is definitely cool.I picked up "Nothing Left to Lose" today and was rather disappointed though - perhaps this is my fault though.I thought this "new album" was all new songs but it wasn't - half of them are from "Bullet."I should have read it in the store but I was so excited that he had a new album, I just picked it up and bought it.It was worth it though.Just felt like someone should warn others... it's not totally new.I still think Mat is GREAT though... I am sure next time the new album will be all new.My guess is that this new one was by a new record label and marketed to a different crowd... perhaps some of his prior hits 'Bullet,' 'Undeniable' and 'In the Middle' just had to be shared with these new fans too!I saw him on "Good Morning America" weeks ago too... so kudos to Mat! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Much overrated
When I first bought this cd I really liked it, but unlike most other cd's it sounded worse with time. After 2-3 months it was just sitting in my drawer and I found myself skipping stations on the radio when they played the Killers. After seeing them live at the Virgin Festival this weekend I know they are totally phony, not only is their cd bland but they are the worst live band ever. Do yourself a favor save your money on this one.

3-0 out of 5 stars A New Rock
I loved the style of The Killers ever since I was first introduced to their hit song "Somebody Told Me." The vibe that the group gave off, uniquely combine rock with a techno-ish feel to it, so not only could you rock out to it and bang your head but you could also put it on at a dance party and get down to it.

Hot Fuss is amazing. Every track on the cd is worth listening to. It is filled with catchy songs that will most likely get stuck in your head and stay there for a good long time.

Grown-ups, gather your wits about you and repair to a different room: The Kidz Bop gang has returned for yet another installment, and if you think your 7-year-old has already had enough of the high-energy vocal flim-flamming, well, guess again. No self-respecting second-grader can resist a custom recasting of Daniel Powter's infectious "Bad Day." Ditto that where Madonna's "Hung Up" is concerned. Most appealing of all, though, may be the kiddification of the ballads: here's a rendition of Kelly Clarkson's "Because of You" that sounds ready-made for basement karaoke, or at least an electrifying lip sync into a hairbrush. And James Blunt's ever-popular "You're Beautiful" somehow takes on a tinge more urgency when it is sung, as it is here, by a chorus of chirpy-voiced, spaniel-eyed little admirers. Though the series is an easy target for cranky, musically discriminating adults, they should lay off. If not for the Bop (that won't stop), when would they find time to seal themselves off with the latest "NOW" disc? Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars ***Parents Be Alerted***
I purchased this album for my kids (6 + 4.5) and just assumed that it was child friendly because it is Kidz Bop and kids sing on the album.BUT I was wrong. On the last song #18 Don't forget about us.Half way through the song there is a line that was never altered for kids. The line states "b**tch don't do it like me, she'll never be MC.." Um hello! This is KIDZ BOP..... Needless to say I tried to contact the company but to no avail....Buyers be aware.... For the sake of the kids that are growing up way too fast...

2-0 out of 5 stars Good product, s-l-o-w shipping!!!
Daughter loves the CD but Amazon took one month to deliver. That's unsatisfactory and I would have purchased elsewhere had I known.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ruining our children
I am a 23 yr old mother of a 2 1/2 yr old. Not only are these children HORRIBLE singers, but there is a reason that most parents don't let their children listen to the original songs... they teach them things they don't need to know. I thought this would be a "kids" version that would get rid of that stuff when I let a child I was babysitting put the cd on... and was appalled at how much they talked about sex and other innappropriate things for children. They didn't take that out!Children are exposed to that every day in our world now, telling them it is "normal" and "ok".Parents have a big enough job to teach their children right and wrong with the way the world is today. It becomes a much harder job when you give them something that is for "kids" that teaches them that those things are "normal".They assume if it is ok for a kids cd, it can't be that bad.I think this is horrible and would never spend a penny on it for a child! Some of the songs I like in the originial version and do listen to, and this CD has ruined them! But when it comes to children who are too young to understand that it is just a song and doesn't mean what they say is ok... I think it is the WORST thing you could buy for your child! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Accuse Rod Stewart of what you like--through the years he's been calleda philanderer, a has-been, a pageant-ish progenitor of puff rock--butas he has consistently proved with his Great American Songbook series, the concept of dignity is not lost on him. There is a time, after all, for leaping across stages in leopard-print spandex whileshamelessly parading an unparalleled gift for scratchy-voicedseduction, and he is past it. Past his prime is another thing. On thisfourth installation of the Clive Davis-produced series, Stewart againmakes excellent use of his rolodex: Diana Ross, whose affection for this material comesthrough as convincingly as her spike-haired partner's, cuddles up foropener "I've Got a Crush On You," Chaka Khan packs her bags but not her mighty vocalsfor "You Send Me," andSir Elton shelves the recent balladeer's instinctsfor a rip-roaring run through "Makin' Whoopee." A handful of marqueeinstrumentalists also returned Rod's calls-- Dave Koz blows sax on "Nevertheless," and trumpetersChris Botti andRoy Hargrove turn up the heat on "I Wish You Love"and "My One and Only Love" respectively. As on earlier discs, though,it's when Rod rules the spotlight alone that he can be most compelling:Cue up "My Funny Valentine" in the right frame of mind and you maynever need to hear it sung by another. Retiring the satin shirts infavor of this material was the smartest move Stewart ever made. Read more

This CD should come with a warning label: not fit for mature / discreet listening audiences. Listening to this bloody dreadful CD could be hazardous to your ears.
1-0 out of 5 stars Little Rod Rooster....Is That Singing?
Has America gone completely mad? A previous reviewer states: "Rod has outdone himself on this one." Huh? Did she really mean that as a compliment? I've come to the conclusion that nobody under sixty years of age in this screwed-up contemporary society, in which mediocrity reigns, has any idea what a great pop vocalist sounds like. The songs included on this travesty of a cd are standards, classics of jazz-pop. Listening to Stewart mangle them with his phlegm-saturated gargling must have Mildred Bailey, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme, Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, etc., turning over in their graves. Stick with the few remaining major leaguers like Tony Bennett and Vic Damone---even in their eighties they sound lightyears better than this sandpaper-voiced human vegetable. Or check out the newer generation of pop-jazz crooners like Michael Buble, Harry Connick, and Peter Cincotti. They are infinitely better singers than this guy. My God! I can't believe that some people truly think this guy has talent! What's next---- Joe Cocker sings Caruso?

The Wreckers are Grammy-winning songstress Michelle Branch and friend/journeywoman Nashville singer-songwriter Jessica Harp, a team whose solid craftsmanship and soaring, airtight harmonies often lift their hook-smart contemporary country stylings above what's too often mere fizzy, pop-crossover formula. They may have entered the public consciousness via the wide exposure of "Good Kind" on the primetime soap opera Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Music
This is a great country/pop blend of music. It's 1 of my favorite cd's ever since I bought it.I love their vocal blends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Michelle Branch goes Country
I am a longtime fan of Michelle Branch and of both her previous albums--Spirit Room and Hotel Paper. When I heard she had joined up with another female singer and started a duo, I was interested, though somewhat dismayed by the delay of their album release. When I finally learned that it came out, I balked to learn that it was classified as Country. After all, I am not a Country fan, and greatly preferred the somewhat pop/rock turning towards alternative feel of Branch's first two CDs.But after listening to samples of songs on Amazon and iTunes, I decided to give the CD a shot anyway--Michelle Branch, to this day, remains the only singer I have enough confidence in my enjoying her music that I would buy one of her albums entirely on blind faith.
5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty and Talented
It seems like just yesterday that Michelle Branch delivered to us a little bit of this and a little bit of that with Santana. Now, a few hits and a few years later we find her turning her back on the modern/alternative rock radio stations that were rumored to be a thorn in her side.Michelle teams up with Jessica Harp to deliver an Alt-Country cd that, at times, sounds like Sheryl Crow meets the Dixie Chicks. I've been hearing the first single Leave The Pieces streaming out of sound systems in just about every type of retail setting possible.I'd say that "pretty" little Michelle & Jessica will be making a "wreck" out of the charts for quite some time. The bottom line: mirror & ear friendly cd. ;) ... Editorial Review

A concept album about gigantic household appliances taking over the world? No such luck. As the images of Hank Williams, Bob Dylan and Sun-era Elvis floating in the background might indicate, this Nashville band is strictly old school, singing about unemployed riverboat workers, covering Woody Guthrie and plucking banjos like there was no tomorrow. Produced by David Rawlings, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Record
Having already bough and loved the last OCMS record I was expecting to love this and was not disappointed. While this is bluegrass, old timey music it is also inexplicably modern.Loving bluegrass will no doubt help you love this album, but I also think it is good for anyone who like good lyrics and strong, different instrumental. If you usually like rock or even punk you'd probably like this album.A great album to add to your music collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best album yet...
"Eutaw" was a good album, but poor sound quality. It did not allow you to fully experience the greatness of Old Crow.
5-0 out of 5 stars Bringing Back The Dead !!!
As I listened to this CD today for the first time it brought back memories of one of the BEST all time bands, The Grateful Dead. The CD reminds one of Jerry Garcia and Company ! Even the song titles of Cocaine Habit, Minglewood Blues, New Virginia Creper, and Don't Ride That Horse are so Dead Like. The opener, Down Home Girl starts the listener on the road that one does not want to end. OCMS you have one of the finest CDs out there. I am sure I will play it over and over and can't wait till your next release !!! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Even if you don't agree with Neil Young's politics, you can't help but be daunted by the intersection of his genius and ire on his second album in less than seven months. It is the very rare artist who is able to channel indignation and moral disgust in such a coherent and forceful way--without sacrificing any of the vivid imagery, passion, or the high level of musicality that we have come to expect from him over the past four decades. But that's not what elevates this album: it's his pure, naked, visceral reaction to the Bush administration's foreign policy, building on a canon of outrage that he began with 1970's "Ohio," penned in the wake of the Kent State student deaths. But here he goes one better, filling in the lines that he began to draw on 2003's Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I kneel to Neil.
This is one Neil Young album that the majority of people will judge before they even hear it. Meaning, any anti-Bush, pro-USA, Neil fan will enjoy it. For the most part that's probably true. It is mostly track after track of ripping apart the Bush administration and war, yet also maintaining a sense of hope and love for the country. Lyrically that's what it is. Musically I find it's similar to his mid-90's album "Mirror Ball". It's rocking Neil for the most part, and appropriate for the topics. Not every song is a winner, but I really like the tracks "The Restless Consumer", "Let's Impeach The President", and "Lookin' For A Leader". Subtle? Not really, but I like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars No throwaway songs here
When I read that the album was hastily put together I expected it to be rough around the edges. Electic Neil always sounds that way to me anyway. Part of the charm. What I did't expect was how musical it would be nor the depth of the lyrics. Surely some of his best work. Pretty amazing for an aging hippie of 61. Makes you wonder how good he'll be when he's 81.
