5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Indigo Girls Album!
The title of this new Indigo Girls album makes it natural to compare the song-writing styles of the two Indigo Girls a little.
4-0 out of 5 stars Deserved better recording and producing
I am a huge IG fan. Don't regret the purchase at all. I enjoy the songs, but this CD seems rushed. Something is missing in the mixing or recording or something. Seems that there is no intrumental or vocal nuance, unimaginative background music, almost the kind of thing you get with a live recording. Sometimes the background vocals overpower the song (Pink sounds great in Rock n Roll Heavens Gate but totally overpowers Amy, Emily and the intruments IMHO). I think it would have been a much better album had more time and attention to detail been spent in production and recording.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just like when you were on the Today show w/ Bryant Gumbel
Wow - okay, this album reminds me of the music that made me want to sing, write, and play guitar when I was 13 years old. There I was, watching the Today show with Bryant Gumbel...and there they were, the Indigo Girls performing Closer to Fine.I had no idea who they were, but I loved their sound, it was like nothing I had heard before - so I asked my mom to buy me the album. That same year I went to one of my first concerts and watched IG perform with Joan Baez and sure enough I was a folk music lover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved this CD!
This CD was so awesome! Compared to the last CD, this one has better songs and music. I also found it easy to dance to. The only thing is that It's Over and Charish the Moment weren't their (the Cheetah Girls) style. Other than that, this CD rocks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cd
I'm actually 16, I just wanted to use this instead of signing in. This cd is GREAT!!! The songs are mostly upbeat except for It's Over. It's also a great cd to workout to, especially when you memorize the dances from the movie and then do them like I did. The first cd was a little corny and had corny songs, but this cd is WAY better!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love that CD
In only 6 weeks, this CD has been certified Gold by RIAA!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A mainstream release for Shanty Music?Thank You, Mr. Depp!
Hi friends, my name is Dean Calin, one of the singers with Bounding Main.We have released two CDs and are working on our third.I've been performing sea shanties since 1995 and am personal friends with many of the Big Name Performers in this genre.I love the traditional stuff and think that it is Important Music, both for our culture and history. That said, Bounding Main delivers traditional sea shanties and maritime music with arrangements for the modern ear. There are people out there like Tom Lewis and David HB Drake and Lee Murdock doing the songs the traditional way and doing them well.It was our choice to perform in Elizabethan mariner costumes (if you want to call us "pirates," okee-dokee) and to write and perform harmonic and theatrical arrangments. Some of the traditional performers are kvetching like mad about this CD:"Johnnie Depp is going to make tons of money with mainstream artists who don't even know what this music is about, when (this traditional artist) and (another traditional artist) have been out on the ships and the cold, getting wet and bringing the history to the people!"My take is that if Mssrs. Depp, Verbinski, et. al. can bring maritime music to the mainstream, it will only benefit ALL of us!
4-0 out of 5 stars Eclectic mix of singers and styles reinvigorates these ballads
The two-disc 'Rogue's Gallery' is a fun and rollicking collection of singers and styles. Forget that it could be misconstrued as a sloppy cash-in by Depp and Verbinksi from the 'Pirates of the Caribean' sequel (which it doesn't feel like) and, on listening, just take it as a reimagining of sea chanties and old english ballads. On first listen, it seemed as though the discs were thematically divergent, with disc 2 having more of the songs sung traditionally while disc 1 contained more individually flavoured covers. While the second disc is pleasant, it was the first disc that made the set worth its money. Some of the standout performances include Bono's aching 'A Dying Sailor to his Shipmates', Mark Anthony Thompson's earnest 'Haul Away Joe' and the nearly mechanical droning of 'Cap Cod Girls', by the fascinating Baby Gramps. Nick Cave returns to the bloody stomping grounds of his seminal 'Murder Ballads' as he does a burningly ferocious 'Fire Down Below', and Gavin Friday has the most fun with the sinfully hilarious 'Baltimore Whores'.
4-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious Responses To This Recording From Those "Traditionalists"
Nothing like reading the "purist" reviews of this collection, who seem to howl like hungry dogs who haven't eaten in a few days as they wrote, to give you a good laugh. The irony is, of course, that for people who claim they study this genre of music and are very familiar with it and advise you to seek out the "real" thing, they didn't do their own homework on who was producing this record or look at the list of artists who were on it. If they had, they would have found out that the producer is Hal Willner who has done this kind of "tribute" record, or better yet, reinterpretation for two decades.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great follow up album
This is a great sophomore effort by the australian band Jet, it doesn't just recreate Get Born, in fact I think there sound has changed quite a bit. Their sound has shifted to more of a beatles sound then their previous album which was mainly the Ac/dc and rolling Stones influences being played. This album also seems to rip off less songs, on the last album nearly every song I could find another song that they had ripped it off from, that is not the case here. You also get a good variety of music here from the hard rocking tunes such as holiday, put your money where your mouth is, and Stand UP, to beautiful ballads such as shine on. My favorite tracks on the album would have to put your money where your mouth is and the very beatlezque shiny magizine. If you like retro rock or Just rock for the matter you owe it ro yourself to pick this up.
5-0 out of 5 stars Are you kidding me? This will kick you upside the head...
I cannot believe how freaking unbelievably good this album is.
4-0 out of 5 stars Jet have found "their own" sound
It's great to see a band grow up before your eyes and if you are a fan of Jet's last album Get Born, one listen to this album and you will realize how much this band has grown up.I loved Get Born and thought it was of the best rock albums to come out in the last 10 years. On Get Born Jet showed their influences from the likes of artists such as The Beatles, AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, and The Kinks on different songs through out the album.Shine On shows that within the last 3 years since Get Born, Jet have found their own sound. They still show some of their influences on songs like "Shiny Magazine" or "Eleanor" which could have been written by John Lennon himself or the Bob Dylan sounding tune "Hey Kids".Jet have also showed their own sound by establishing the groove guitar/drumsounds and rocking melodies on songs like "Come On Come On" and the first single "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is".The stand out track for me on this album is the album title "Shine On".This is a great song with a mix of piano, great lyrics with good vocal range, and they even throw some soulful female backround vocals. The songs on Shine On are well crafted and Produced very well as they should be because they have been working on this album for 3 years. This album isn't as edgy or as hard rocking as Get Born is, but it is a much more crafted and there is more range and profesionalism in this album.Bottom line is this album is solid all around and there aren't any skip over tracks. It is a must if you liked the last album. ... It's hard to find the words to do this boxed set justice.Vince Gill proves beyond a doubt that the music is the message and nowhere is that message delivered with such richness as in these songs. His versatility, voice and grown-up love of writing, playing and singing are showcasedhere in an easy movement from one genre to the next. Appeal with this body of work is broad and exciting! Bravo, Mr. Gill!

4-0 out of 5 stars Should have been a box set
While this is a great collection of earlier R.E.M., I would have rather seen a box set including the IRS material, live songs, and b-sides.The 2 CD offering is far too skimpy for this band.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Collection
This is a good buy for new listeners as well as old fans. It's good to hear the early stuff in a collection like this.Brings back many memories and recreates many moods.I am disappointed by recent REM recordings, but we always have music like this to appreciate.A must even for diehards.Nice packaging, too, with comments on many of the songs by the band members included in the accompanying booklet.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Sound quality- Remastering gone very wrong
This is really sad, this is an otherwise excellent collection. But in today's quest for everything to be LOUD, the over compressed this so that it's lost almost all dynamic range, and is just stressfull to listen to. You hear things you never did before-- BECAUSE THAT WEREN"T SUPPOSED TO STAND OUT IN THE MIX!Everything just stays at the same level, it sounds like there are some phase issues on some tracks as well.

Editorial Review

The premise was simple. Bruce Springsteen invites a dozen or so New York City musicians--packing banjos, fiddles, accordions and the like--to his New Jersey farmhouse for a three-day hootenanny, and tape is rolling. The results are sublime, his 21st album featuring their versions of songs harvested from Springsteen's dog-eared LPs by Pete Seeger. Not all written by Seeger, the songs are how the American folk icon interpreted them, and these organic recordings, with no rehearsals or overdubs, pay tribute with the simplicity and spontaneity he intended. It's not hard to link Springsteen's dissatisfaction with American politics to the protest song "We Shall Overcome" or even the Irish ballad "Mrs. McGrath," where he alters the lyrics to read, "I'd rather have my son as he used to be/Than the King of America and his whole navy." But the beauty of these Seeger Sessions are pieces that underscore the mood of the bandleader, which borders on down-home amusement: the bluegrass outlaw ballad "Jesse James," the Dylanesque "Pay Me My Money Down" and the euphoric "Jacob's Ladder," a gumbo-and-whiskey-fueled romp that could pass for the closing hymn at the Church of Asbury Park. 5-0 out of 5 stars Old Time Culture with a Modern Flair
I bought this right before a road trip.My sister and I fell in love with it.Our 11 year old niece is always making requests whenever we're in the car.She and I can't help but belt out "PAY ME MY MONEY DOWN!"I have also found that it really makes cleaning the house a lot more fun too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable
I have a rule: I don't ever give 5 stars to album full of covers.I had to think long and hard about breaking that rule for this one, but I couldn't do it.

5-0 out of 5 stars New album, new sound
Like some other reviewers, the more I listen to this CD the more I like it. I found it to be a good CD to listen to for relaxation and exercising the imagination. Few tracks are memorable, but I felt it was all worth it for Goodbye Milky Way and Sitting on the Moon. I really like how Enigma creates a different sound and mood for each of their albums. I know of some music artists who never do that, and each album they come out with is predictable and the same. With Enigma, I always look forward to their releases because I know they'll have some new surprises.

4-0 out of 5 stars Give it Time
I completely agree with ROCKET's review. At first I said, "ehh, its OK." But as I listened again and again--with a good sound system--I was addicted. I still feel its not as good as their first four albums, but definitely better than their last.

2-0 out of 5 stars This is not the best CD
Enigma always was enigma bcause of this samples enigmatics ,gregorians ,africans voices ,thats why enigma was good ,this is not enigma music this is eurodance or trance or what ever and enigma is not the king in this type of music ,so I dont think this is a good Enigma's CD ,I think this is a little better than Voyageur CD ,but is not enigma anymore .the must beautiful song is Goodbye Milky way .. the music is not bad at all ,but it is not enigma's music .this is a different thing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect gift for families with children
I learned about Elizabeth Mitchell and this album in a recent interview on NPR (October, 2006).They interviewed Elizabeth, her husband and their 5-year-old daughter and aired a few live performances.I fell in love with this family and their music instantly.I was instantly transported back to the days my mother used to sing with me.These are beautiful perfomances of heirloom quality childrens songs that are certain to leave a lasting impression on everyone in the family.I am getting ready to order a bunch of copies to have on hand for Christmas gifts and baby showers.

5-0 out of 5 stars My new favorite CD - oh, and our kids love it, too!
My family and I LOVE Elizabeth Mitchell... in a big way. So when I say that this new CD is my favorite, it's not something I say lightly. But it's true - and it's not just my new favorite Elizabeth Mitchell CD - it's my favorite CD period. Why?It's just fantastic. The songs are beautiful, simple, nostalgic, fun, full of character, love, warmth and magic. It's Elizabeth Mitchell at her best - with just her voice and guitar and husband and child accompanying her.Simple and perfect.
4-0 out of 5 stars Curious listings...
Beautiful country-harmonies sung by reallly-tone-tight adults and not-so-tone-tight children (Peace Like a River is my favorite) releases all complexity and brings these songs to their ultimate core: Everybody should be singing these songs! Whether you're a nightingale or a crow, the song itself will keep your performance together ...if you partner with 'a voice' --like Elizabeth's: Her voice is of course what keeps it all together, but the real pearls of this album really are the ones almost ruined by the kids -- they'll do anything you say (upto a certain age) you know...?

DO NOT EVEN QUESTION THE NEED TO BUY THIS CD!!!Seriously, unless you've just spent the past year living on mars (PS, welcome back), you could not have escaped the worldwide hoopla that has surrounded High School Musical. This sort of thing happens for a reason! This movie, is almost entirely faultless, even in aspects that in other movies most would immediately point out and pick apart, because in this movie, it just works.

Editorial Review

Michael Bublé's assured debut and the tireless year of globe-trotting touring he spent promoting it elevated the 20-something Vancouver native into the first rank of pop crooner revivalists. His sophomore studio follow-up largely turns on the same formula that helped make his considerable vocal prowess so attractive to mainstream audiences, mixing the nigh flawless, if expected Sinatra-channeling ("I've Got You Under My Skin") with more playful and inviting renditions of pop standards like the Gershwin's "A Foggy Day in London Town," "Feeling Good," "Try A Little Tenderness" and Cole Porter's "I've Got You Under My Skin." But it's the eclectic mix of more contemporary material the singer seasons them with -- apt tribute to Bublé hero Bobby Darin -- that keeps him walking the narrow tightrope between artistic intrigue (a blues-tinged vamp of Holland-Dozier-Holland's "How Sweet It Is," Leon Russell's lovely "Song For You," with a guest turn by Chris Botti) and the kitsch-laden abyss ("Quando, Quando, Quando"'s Euro-centric duet with Nelly Furtado, a ring-a-ding-fling with the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" that echoes fellow Canadian crooner/rival Matt Dusk's more successful flirtation with Lennon-McCartney). Arranger/producer Tommy LiPuma offers Bublé a welcome swinging jazz showcase on "The More I See of You," a bracing respite from the rest of producer David Foster's slick, if typically bloodless MOR production.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Rush
I rememeber the first time that I listened to this CD.I was in my car about a year ago waiting for an appointment.I would hear a new song, and I would scream with the excitement of a teenage fangirl.I love the arrangements of old standards. I love the new songs. I love the sound of the band, and most of all I love the sensuous sound of Michale Buble's voice. 10 out of 10!

4-0 out of 5 stars Nelly, you only had to learn ONE WORD IN SPANISH.....
We loved the CD, but were disappointed when Nelly sang CUANDO CUANDO CUANDO. She only had to learn one word in Spanish, and instead of saying CUANDO (translation: when), she sang CUANTO (translation: how much), prostituting the song.
5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great one
After thoroughly enjoying the DVD/CD release, "Caught in the Act," I also gave this CD a listen to by Buble, the second album of his that I have listened to. I have to give it 5 stars because I am very much impressed with and enamoured by Buble's emergence on the scene. He is a very capable vocalist and has given me a new perspective on what a jazz vocalist should sound like.

Ludacris doesn't pull out any real surprises here, but he also wouldn't have lasted this long if he didn't have a talent for consistency. What's missing here are big singles. His first attempt, "Money Maker," was too color-by-numbers. There's nothing on Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm pleased--best album since chicken & beer
I think Luda is awesome. This album has tight lyrics. My favorite songs are money maker, mouths to feed (this song is the bomb!), slap, and girls gone wild.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Luda Had A Serious Moment"
When you think of Ludacris...you think...lyrical...out spoken...and a straight fool. Luda's previous Albums have been quite entertaining. And I notice a lot of people have wrote reviews saying this is his worse album. My question is... why? Because he decided to have a serious moment. This album shows his maturity and shows that he is not afraid to have "A serious moment". Luda is still talented whether you feel this or not. The man still has a way with words. If you are a true Ludacris fan then you will purchase this and like it...Damn it!...lol
1-0 out of 5 stars This is ridiculous...and ludicrous, too....
P's and H's..."ho" hum....what a concept....waste, waste, waste.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Album Is A Triumph.
Every Track Delivers The Majesty Of This Musical Giant. Every song on the CD emotionally moved me. Listening to it really made me think about certain things and to be honest helped me make life-changing changes in my life. His beautiful voice captures your attention & doesn't let go.

5-0 out of 5 stars Andrea Is Wonderful!
This new CD, Amore, is just beautiful. His music makes my heart sing!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This CD convinced me more than ever about the flexibility, quality and capabilty unique to Andrea Bocelli's musical artistry.Since high school Spanish years, I've heard Bésame Mucho and thought it okay but a bit lame.No longer.Never has a song been performed with more sensual beauty. His rendition of Júrame is one I have to bypass when I'm driving because I'm afraid my car is going to dance right off the road.

Editorial Review

As the frontman for the Mavericks and a member of Los Super Seven, Raul Malo has applied his Orbison-like delivery to an eclectic array of material. On this, his latest solo effort, the warbler enlists veteran producer Peter Asher to focus on romantic balladry, as string-laden arrangements surround Malo's tremulous voice on the opening title track (a '70s hit for songwriter J.D. Souther) and the soaring "Feels Like Home" (reprised as the closer in a duet with Martina McBride). The song selection highlights Malo's vocal range, as he finds the bittersweet essence in a slowed-down rendition of the Everly Brothers' "So Sad," a dramatic reading of the Bee Gees' "Run to Me," and a lilting take on Ron Sexsmith's "Secret Heart."He even tackles Etta James's signature tune, "At Last," its jazzy, smoky sophistication punctuated by a trumpet solo. The cover of Willie Nelson's "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground" provides the album's main link to country, but even here the bedrock organ and soul choir sound closer to the church than the roadhouse. The stellar selection provides a superb showcase for Malo's shimmering voice. 5-0 out of 5 stars A gift from God
One wonders what it must be like to sing like Raul....really....can you imagine it?To hit those notes, to round those notes out, to put feeling into them...and he only gets better.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
This is what music should be & do-----take you away to another place and time. The first 5 songs are my favorite especially Willie Nelson's 'Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground'. I thought no one could ever touch Willie's versions, but I was wrong. Breathtaking. ... Read more

This compilation of previously released material gathers the best-known tunes sung by women in Andrew Lloyd Webber's repertoire. Do all the singers here count as divas? A surprisingly high number certainly does. A few offer both outsize personality and outsize pipes: Betty Buckley ("Memory"), Patti LuPone ("Buenos Aires"), Barbra Streisand ("As If We Never Said Goodbye"). Some don't have as much name recognition but still offer blistering readings of famous songs (Yvonne Elliman's vintage version of "I Don't Know How to Love Him," from Read more

Editorial Review

Admit it: If you had to pick an artist to give voice to the wackadoo thinkings of a monkey beloved by most of the American populace over age 3, you could do a lot worse than Jack Johnson. Black Eyed Peas? Too hyper. Death Cab for Cutie? Too ironic. They Might Be Giants? Too eggheaded. Johnson, though the object of much rightful jealousy--here, after all, is a guy who only stumbled into music and vaulted himself up the charts after a successful career as a pro surfer--turns out to have the goods to do H.A. Rey, Curious George's creator, proud. Fans familiar with Johnson's earlier discs will recognize a certain laconic sprawl and easy fascination in his songs that suits the theme of perpetual puzzlement perfectly (here, let's not forget, is a guy who racked up fans with songs called "Bubble Toes" and "Banana Pancakes"). That the music takes a childish turn barely registers--songs like opener "Upside Down" are classic Johnson, all wonderment and groove, and the collaborations with friends Ben Harper, G. Love, and Matt Costa warm up, wink, and scamper off before packing on the weight of excess meaning. "We're Going to Be Friends," track seven, seals the deal--when you can make the White Stripes sound compatible with the Man with the Yellow Hat, you know you've got a multi-generational winner. 3-0 out of 5 stars Simple Sing Along
Theme song, UPSIDE DOWN, is a catchy and simple toe tapping sing along, but the rest of the cd sounds much like this theme song....same rhythm, same sound. However, be certain that kids will enjoy it, and it fits the movie perfectly. The included lyric booklet makes it all the more fun.
