5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Christmas Albums ever!!
There's alot of people you like their regular music, but they come out with a christmas album and its just not up to par. Hardly the case with James Taylor- he never ceases to make wonderful music and take old songs and put his twist to it. This is one of the few Christmas albums that I love that is only by one person- it has such a mellow, stay at home with the family and fire type sound to it. You won't be disappointed!

4-0 out of 5 stars Gorilla in a Santa Hat
This is essentially the same release as the 2004 "James Taylor: A Christmas Album," which was sold exclusively through Hallmark Stores and online for a limited time. However, this one includes "River" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," which may not have been on the Hallmark disc but WAS a bonus track on limited editions of "October Road" in 2002.The track selection is all record company hocus-pocus.The important thing is that this is James Taylor singin' some Christmas favorites, and if that doesn't put you in a more cheerful holiday spirit you're truly an incurable cold-blooded Grinch. It's one of the best holiday releases I've ever heard by anyone, and I've been around since Christmas was invented, I think. This is a can't-go-wrong purchase. Nice album cover shot, too. Nice scarf, JT.Luv yah.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exquisite - the True Spirit of Christmas
If you adore James Taylor then this is a must-have. His voice is velvet, his humor with Natalie Cole is adorable. In this world of negativity give yourself a break... pop this in,crank up the gas fireplace, sit back and find a small moment of joy."Who Comes This Night" is an extremely good listen...the background singers evoke fond memories of days gone by...the strings uplift you."Auld Lang Syne" will have you pining for friends that you almost forgot. If you normally find Christmas albums untimely and boring, this album is definitely worth a listen. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Maturing gracefully, while keeping the fun
I don't understand all this talk about the Red Hots "putting down their guns", "hanging their mitts" .. and so on. It's like people are expecting a band to do the same thing for 23 years and produce the same type of music, ignoring the fact that bands and musicians like the rest of us, evolve, mature, change.. etc, the point is few bands do it as gracefully and as fantastically as the Red Hots. Sure some songs sound a little bit more tame "Hard to Concentrate", others sound a little bit more Pop "Especially in Michigan", others more stadium or melodic .. but how many bands you know can deliver something like "Snow ((Hey Oh))". This songs bursts out right after the first single - "Dani California" - as if to challenge the current music scene to produce something that's even close in creativity and musicianship. Then how many bands you can think of can deliver a first grade first-nature funk like "Charlie", or "Hump De Bump", or "Storm in a Teacup". The Red Hots sure have moved in several new directions over the years, but they have managed to keep a large enough distance from anybody else doing the same type of thing, to remainsounding original. This is a band that knows how to feel, chill, go crazy and party in their songs, and this is the type of album Stadium Arcadium is. Buy it, it's unique, double albums rarely come this natural and unbloated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Their BEST album yet!
I am a HUGE RHCP fan and so naturally i was very excited when they came out w/ a new cd and couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I wasn't disapointed when i first listened to this CD, it is TOTALLY AMAZING! There isn't a bad song on it and i simply can't keep it out of my CD player! All 28 songs are incredible and i cant praise them enough!

4-0 out of 5 stars RHCP's Mixed Fortunes
It is with mixed feelings that I review 'Stadium Arcadium'. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are 2.5 decades old and are extreme legends of alternative rock - their style of alternative rock that is. They are the kings of funk, mixing rock with punk as they only can. This album came very much anticipated by all RHCP fans and faced a mixed critical critique by the critics and fans alike. Firstly before I dwelve into the two in one album let me state for the record that the Artwork of this album is the best original idea the band could come up with. I loved the cover and the inside of the package. The back cover could have had a better band photo. But A+ for thought into the cover, very expressive and artistic.

...To quote his song "You don't know how it feels" recorded some 13 years ago now on his last solo album "Wildflowers."That is a truly great album, and this latest one, "Highway Companion" is pretty good too. However, Tom is looking and sounding quite sleepy and stoned on album photos and music, which makes it all seem a little insincere.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not her best work
When I heard DejaVu, I thought her CD was gonna be off the chain. I was anticipating her release date. I bought it the very fisrt day. Her CD is nothing compared to her first. Dont get me wrong, she has a fews songs on there that you can get down too. DejaVu, Get me bodied, Upgrade U, Irreplaceable, and Listen are the only songs on her CD that I can listen too with out turning. All the others I think the beats sound the exact same. You can tell who produced what. She said that this is her best CD. I think the total opposite. Dangerously in Love was her best. She showed everyone that she not only can sing R&B, but different genres as well (Rock, Pop) and they still all sounded good. You can ride to the whole CD. B'Day she only stuck with with one genre, and not only that the songs did sound the same. There are not enough songs on the CD, and not enought slow songs. I think she rushed it being that it only took her 2 weeks to record. I am a true Beyonce fan, but I think she should have took more time, and she could've done a whole lot better.

3-0 out of 5 stars What Happened to Beyonce'?
Jay-Z has ruined her. Anybody seen that video where he has her dancing around like some crazed African princess? It looks ridiculous and is way frenetic. I got dizzy watching it. Plus the cover photo of this CD looks like some third rate product from the 1960's. Beyonce, dump Jay-Z and get back to your roots. I like her old stuff much better than this but three stars because hey, it IS Beyonce'.

2-0 out of 5 stars Needs an "Upgrade"
This album was a real let down from Dangerously in Love. You'd expect a more mature, grown sound, still without alienating her younger fan base. Yet instead we got remedial Destiny's Child lyrics circa "Bills, Bills, Bills" & "Bugaboo". Sure, you can dance to most of the tracks; great club beats. But for all that she is hyped up to be (the next Diana Ross), she needs an "Upgrade" HERSELF. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars cd and dvd review
at first, your impression of how Dylan sings nowadays can be cringe-worthy. it's not his fault, it's just age that robs him of the ability to turn on a dime that any young person can do without thinking about it.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Record But What About...
Yes, the record is fantastic and timeless... but in all of these 59 lengthy, overly-authoratative and sometimes ethereal reviews there is not one mention of who is on the record playing the instruments accompanying Mr. Dylan. WHO IS ON THE RECORDING?
5-0 out of 5 stars He still has it after all these years
The album provides a very enjoyable experience. We know Bob Dylan is a jack of all trades and a master of nearly everything in the musical genre. From protest songs to love songs and then to break up songs. From acoustic, to electric, to gospel, and now onto 'modern times'. This is a feel good album through and through (...because it feels good to know that Bob still has it after all these years). The stand out tracks in my opinion are "Spirit in the Water", "Working Man's Blues #2", "Beyond the Horizon", and "Nettie Moore". If you like good music, then you'll enjoy this album for a very very long time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Johnny Cash at His Best
This is Johnny Cash at his best. With the bio-pic "Walk The Line" making the cable TV circuit (I've watched it on HBO at least three times in the last week), people are going to start searching out Cash's albums. If you're a fan, like I am, please direct them to this honest, insightful album. The music alone is well worth the small price of this CD, but with the additional gems such as the extra photos, liner notes, and Johnny's banter between and during songs, this is by far one of the 20th century's musical classics. June Carter's wit shines through, however briefly, and her voice is as lovely and true as Cash's. Don't mistake this for your run-of-the-mill country album. This is the Man in Black at his darkest, playing prison songs to approximately 2,000 inmates. This is Cash bringing entertainment and inspiration to hardened men who are probably smiling and laughing for the first time in years.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best CDs I own
This CD is an absolute blast to listen to. Not only is each and every one of the songs great, this CD also includes some of the onstage interaction between Cash, his band, and his audience that really livens things up. And this CD has very, very good sound that has been digitally remastered for the best quality of this recording to date. Crank up the volume on a good sound system and you can hear the prisoners shout all kinds of funny stuff. All in all, a very good portrait of a great entertainer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Fun
It is ironic that even though this concert was given at a prison and most of the songs are about being destitute, this recording is fun to listen to. It really helps to have seen the movie, "Walk the Line." When you listen to the CD in the context of Cash's life and the reason he played at Folsom, this CD takes on a whole new dimension. I am not usually a fan of Country music, though I have been striving to care less about style and more about content, but this music has a lot of heart. It is not intricate, nor is it ingenious in its conception, but the passion is there. The only annoying thing is that if you are not careful, these songs get stuck in your head, especially "Folsom Prison Blues."

2-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
i really, really, reallllly wanted to like this album, but, even after multiple listens, the majority of the tracks here just seem like filler.i fell asleep halfway through the record.it's a shame that the bonus tracks steal the show here ["transistor" and "making ladies" especially].it's almost as if they were trying too hard to sound fresh... when all they had to do was let their new york roots grow out.the packaging seems very gimicky.i like that they took risks with this one, but sadly, it doesn't work.*cringe* despite my opinion of this album however, the scissor sisters ROCK and more power to 'em.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real gem!
The Scissor Sisters have done it again, folks. This album just may be better than their first one.You might even catch your mom dancing to it, or at least tapping her foot. The world of music just wouldn't be the same without the Sisters!

5-0 out of 5 stars YAAAYYYY!!!!!
This CD makes me so happy! It's like the Sisters took all the little soundbites from a late-night TV commercial selling a definitive "Music of the 70's (and maybe the very early 80's)" collection - you know the ones where you just hear the title of the song as the other song titles are scrolling by and the one you're hearing becomes blue or green or whatever color the other ones are not? - so they took all those 'bites from Helen Reddy and the Partridge Family and Leo Sayer and Pink Floyd and Blondie and they scrunched them all up into a marshmallow-like ear-pleasing spongy fluid and made a CD out of it. It's so dang cool!Favorite lyric of the year... "I can't decide whether you should live or die... you'll probably go to heaven, please don't hang your head and cry."I have a couple of coworkers whose voice evokes the rampant humming of thatline inside my head. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Work
The first time you listen to this record, you will think it's not bad.The second time, you'll think it's pretty good. The third time, you'll think it's brilliant. It takes 3 listens to appreciate the "complex simplicity" of this record and when its contrasted to the other solo works, and the Fleetwood Mac era material, it really leaves you shaking your head and wondering if Mr. Buckingham made some sort of deal with the devil for his seemingly unending talent. The only criticism is the overprocesed vocal arrangements. ... Being a lover of great music, including the political genre of RATM as alot of you like to refer them as, and also Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog, and loving AudioSlave so much because of the devout attention they pay to the fact that they are a band and no one is going to do a solo CD, this CD jumped out as a fantastic result of guys loving what they do, collaborating in that and wanting to test the spiritual, blues, funk and rock envelope.Put some good headphones on, adjust your bass, treble, fade, etc. and listen to the words, the bassline, the drumbeat and the fact that without having to shove it down your throat or make a point, they CAN make you think. Rock snobs, do not apply.Cornell's voice is without a doubt at its best and he seems happy and content.

I was hesitant to buy this CD.After hearing BEP and what they had to offer, I wondered how Fergie would do on her own.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
I must say that the great thing about Fergie, is she can actually sing. She does showcase that talent on several songs here. While im not a big fan of raping songs much anymore, those are good as well. You really need to listen to this cd a couple times to enjoy, ill admit i downloaded it once and was like ugh. But then i relistened to each song and found myself truly liking the cd. Its just like any cd really you have to listen to a few times to really get the feel of the artist. I like her singing in Wild Orchid so i guess i really like the songs more where she actually sings. I was never really a big fan of London Bridge, but i suppose i see why she released it.

I have always been a sucker for Sarah and so glad they stuck with the original duets like Jose Cura's (my favorite tenor oozing with great machismo) and Andrea Bocelli. My only complaint is the Phantom of the Opera with Steve Harley (who is he?)Pardon me, I don't want to be mean but this is soooo horrific, let alone it was on track no. 1.What a terrible thing to start the cd.When I play cd, I skip no. 1 and the rest is simply divinely Sarah.I would have seen soooo tickled if she dueted Phantom with Gerard Butler (another macho cutie pie).

5-0 out of 5 stars Good
Well, being a fan of Sarah Brightman since her Phantom days says that I liked this album,it is not her best album, but its a good singles album and for new fans to get to know her better. She always and mainly have themes in her albums, for example, FLY, more pop sounding, TIME TO SAY GOOD BYE, more classical, or just songs from Webber, but this album is just her songs from past albums.so its good to that part.

This is an amazing CD for new fans and for your collection if you are a fan yet, the songs are carefully selected for being a great CD!! A question of honour is different from the Fly CD, if you are a Sarah's fan this CD is perfect, if you don't you will be a Sarah's fan!! ... Read more

If the 9-year-old in your life hasn't alerted you already, consider this your heads up: Not since Hilary Duff has Disney delivered the masses a tween sensation as hot as the double-life-leading Miss Hannah Montana. More important for speaker-blowing second- to seventh-graders and the parents forced to buy them CDs, though, no small-screen sensation transcends the tube more convincingly. Part party girl and part plain old good girl, Montana--a sweet-voiced, playful performer--never skimps on the pipes. Country fans will chalk that up to our rhyme-named heroine's lineage; 14-year-old Miley Cyrus, who plays Montana, is the daughter of Nashville star Billy Ray Cyrus (who duets on this disc's sentimental, twang-resistant last track). The rest of the world, though, is apt to find itself belting along based on Hannah's unsinkable hooks and frothy Ashlee-meets-Hilary vocals alone: theme song "Best of Both Worlds" bumps around off a Joan Jett-reminiscent springboard; "Who Said" rips a page from the emo diaries; and "Just Like You" ladles on harmonies sweet enough to attach a stick to. Additional tracks like Jesse McCartney's "She's No You" and B5's Earth Wind & Fire redo "Shining Star" are first-rate complements to the proceedings, but make no mistake: this dance-happy hybrid belongs to the reigning pop princess alone. 2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I got this CD because I loved their radio hits "Bring Me To Life" and "My Immortal." While those songs are beautiful, they are not representative of the rest of the album. Although I tried and tried to get into this CD, the hard rock teen goth style just isn't my cup of tea, and the lyrics are too depressing. If you are a fan of bands such as Linkin Park or Seether, you might enjoy this. However, if you only like "My Immortal" and "Bring Me To Life" because of Amy's powerful vocals, you'd be better off listening to Tori Amos or Sarah McLachlan.

4-0 out of 5 stars October music
What else can I add that the other reviews haven't already said? For me music usually unlocks feelings and emotions that very often are tied to places in time and seasons. This album feels like October in Maine to me. October is without a doubt the best month there is and if you ever have to be in Maine, October is the best time to be there. This album evokes the early twilight and cool breezes coming off Casco Bay, moving through the autumn leaves. Really an amazing album. Amy Lee is an amazing vocalist and I'd recommend this album to anyone who has an inner goth.

Editorial Review

To gauge the magnitude of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's popularity in his native Hawaii, consider this: following his death in 1997 (at age 38, attributed to his profound obesity), Kamakawiwo'ole's body lay in state in the state capitol, only the second person to receive such an honor. Kamakawiwo'ole's appeal lies in his love for prestatehood, precondominium Hawaii and the expressiveness of his gently passionate voice, which can float through higher registers with an ease that brings Johnny Mathis to mind. Several selections ("Ka Pua U'i," "White Sandy Beach of Hawai'i," the sun-kissed "La 'Elima") feature Kamakawiwo'ole in a traditional mood, using only his ukulele to adorn the charm of his native lyricism. Others, such as the Jimmy Buffett-like "Maui Hawaiian Sup'pa Man" add playful contemporary touches that suit Kamakawiwo'ole's style. Most touching are the string-backed laments that open and close the album, "Hawai'i '78 Introduction" and "Hawai'i '78," initially a reflection on his father's death, later on the passing of Hawaii's native culture. Best known is his medley "Somewhere over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World," which played over the closing credits of the film Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Last Remerbance
I heard Iz's "Over the Rainbow" played at a best friends wake several years ago, as slides of my friends life in The Islands showed on a projector. It has stuck in my memory, and always will. Joy and tears come every time I think of it. A truly talent of Mother Earth, always to be remembered.

Editorial Review

In the liner notes to their major label debut, Oklahoma City's Hinder endorse tequila, Belvedere, Crown Royal, Jägermeister, and Mr. Watson 540. In "Get Stoned," photogenic Austin Winkler (who sounds tougher than he looks) rasps, "Let's go home and get stoned." Later, he adds, "The break-up is worth the make-up sex you're givin' me." In "Bliss (I Don't Wanna Know)," the lead singer laments, "The vodka's running on empty." This is a problem because, "I can't stay sober/if it's over." But things pick up in "Room 21" where he meets a "b*tch" with "red lipstick and pale pink boots," who shows him a good time (yes, he said Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I liked this album
Dispite all the bad reviews, i enjoyed this album very much. I don't stick to one sound, I'll listen to anything from Whitesnake to Manson to Hinder. Hinder's beats and lyrics are catchy and i find myself singing along and "rockin" out in my car...I do get the occasional strange looks from others. I enjoy listening to them on my way to work, Hinder gets me pumped, ready for the day! Everyone has different tastes in bands and everyone's opinion should be taken into considereation. When i read the reviews, i don't get frustrated when i see a bad review, I'm happy i made this purchase, as a matter of fact...I think ill put Hinder's cd in now!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Qualified
I hated NIckelback. So the first two reviews I saw that trashed this band on account of nickelback were a plus.Recently, here in Anchorage we have a new "new rock" radio station, and they played "Lips of an Angel" pretty heavy and it caught me.Considering the local radio station (for those interested in esoterica, it's 98.7 The KZND and they rock) introduced me to "The Killers", "Snow Patrol", and "Three Days Grace", I will buy this album, and I bet I'll like it.Go sticker Joe!

4-0 out of 5 stars Get Over It
That's what I say to the first 2 reviewers with all the Nickleback comparisons."Lips of an Angel" is so far from anything Nickleback-ish that's it's not even in the same decade. This is a power ballad through and through reaching back to the great years of the format and ranking up with best of them right next to Tesla and the lot.I had almost thought that true power ballads in rock were dead till hearing this song. It's nice to see I was wrong.

Editorial Review

It's no surprise that a group named after something said during a baseball game would title an album after something said during a basketball match. It is a bit of a surprise that this band remains so incredibly good, and capable of surprising even longtime listeners. This one's so diverse and such a mixture of different styles, it's reminiscent of the group's all-request on-air shows they play annually to support New Jersey-based radio station WFMU. Book-ended by two long, droney tunes, you've got garage-rock rave-ups, country-pop, horn-driven R&B, little gorgeous atmospheric songs, some brilliant falsetto singing, and... this list could go on and on. Who else would think to pair conga-style percussion to a Suicide-esque synth drone? Or even to work with longtime Dylan collaborator and strings arranger and violinist David Mansfield and have genius illustrator Gary Panter do the artwork at the same time? It's the little things that matter, especially when you mastered the big ones twenty-plus years ago.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars subpar
i think 3 stars is generous.i am pretty dissapointed with the album.. i thought that Summer Sun was a good direction for them to go in, but this does not meet the bar they made for themselves with 'I Can Hear..' or 'And Then Nothing..'There are a few good tracks but the album is not consistent and it's way too long.Hopefully the next one will be better

5-0 out of 5 stars an eclectic album by YLT
All of you who already know YLT wide musical affinities, will sure enjoy the last effort by the outstanding Hoboken trio. You'll find all sorts of songs in here, up and downbeat, but, trust me, all of them excellent. The LP runs 70' long, which is a lot, but keeps the level high all the way through.Understand me, it's not a mood album, like Electropura or Summer Sun are, but does pretty well the job, which is, delivering 15 pop-rock nuggets for the forthcoming fall winds. Don't miss it!
4-0 out of 5 stars terrific indie record that runs a little long
Before I talk about how good this album is, I want to get my major gripe out of the way. This album is too long. 15 tracks, 77 minutes long, and it demonstrates that it is very hard, if not impossible, for a record that length to maintain any cohesion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravo - I wish I were there.
I have been a fan of Keith Jarrett for a long time.I was even lucky enough to hear one of his live concerts in Milwaukee many years ago. Most people don't understand his groaning while he plays. They don't understand how he is in another place and plane when he performs his incredible improvisations. They don't understand or appreciate music that has feeling and soul.Being a musician myself, I can understand this - however, I have never achieved a level of technical ability that Keith Jarrett has.I can only dream of achieving something close in my lifeteime.Keith Jarrett is an inspiration to me and I wish there were more music in the world like his.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great concert...flawed presentation
I wholeheartedly agree with Christopher Vickery that the audience applause at the end of the tracks is excessive and annoying. I followed his advice and used Audacity to edit out that applause. Now I can get back to enjoying this beautiful performance.
5-0 out of 5 stars an absolutely radiant and powerful performance
As a longtime fan of Keith Jarrett, I've held "The Koln Concert" up high on a lofty pedestal as one of the truly inspiring recordings of all time.
