4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful music
This is wonderful to listen to.To anyone who has ever been to Hawaii, IZmakes it esay to return time after time.Close your eyes and listen and you will find yourself looking out over the vast blue waters of the Pacific.Over the Rainbow and Mona Lisa are great. This is almost as good a CD as Facing Future which I think is his best.Wonderful island music that seems to come directly from his heart.Buy it and go to Hawaii whenever you want.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes me feel whole
Just like everyone else in these reviews, I too was "formally" introduced to Iz during a trip to Hawaii.I too was familiar with "Over the Rainbow".I had heard snippets of it many times but heard it in full on ER.On my trip to Hawaii I was listening to a CD(radio reception was poor)from some local friends and a song came on that was very calming and, in my way of thinking, very Hawaiian so I commented that I liked it and my friends said "you like Iz?" and when they mentioned "Over the rainbow" I said "i guess i do!".I picked up this cd in the hotel gift shop and could not wait to get home and listen to it and immediately was put back to Hawaii.I cannot choose a favorite song because they are all beautiful.I know the steel guitar is what is traditionally expected by mainland folks but this in my humble opinion is Hawaiian music.A calming voice, the ukulele, the beautiful Hawaiian language and i also like that the mike was just left on to catch all that Iz is in the beginning and ending of some songs "d'you call my wife?" comes to mind.I was also heartbroken to find out he was gone, but I'm thrilled to have a piece of him in this cd.I'm going to get a little DEEP now----I feel like I found a missing piece of myself when i visited Hawaii and this cd reminds me of that, but i digress.Honestly though, IZ HAS RUINED ME TO ALL OTHER TYPES OF HAWAIIAN MUSIC(except some songs by Danny Couch, whoever performed the songs in the beginning of Lilo & Stitch, and a song about a chirping/singing frog).

1-0 out of 5 stars Major Disappointmentfrom The Mountain Apple Company
The music is terrific. However, the music will ONLY play in an old-fashioned CD Player with the CD mounted in it. The music will NOT PLAY (the files cannot even be found!) on a PC or MP3 player. (I had to go sit in my car to listen to it!!!)

Proving yet again their willingness to dice 'n' slice their burgeoning legacy into new--if not exactly fresh--product, the Fab Four Minus One have released this single-disc compendium of their No. 1 hits. Though obviously superfluous to the faithful (who may also find themselves quibbling over the precise definition of "No. 1 hit" and the exclusion of seeming contenders like "Please Please Me" and "Strawberry Fields"), newly arrived visitors from the Pleiades star cluster and other neophytes will find it a concise and generous (nearly 80 minutes) single-disc introduction to the band's career-spanning, unparalleled dominance of pop music in the 1960s. But beyond being a mere trophy case of commercial success (and it won't be hard to find critics who'll argue that these singles aren't even the band's best work), it's also a Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars An apt title.
I understand why the Beatles are the top sellers in rock music as they suck. They only made about two decent songs in their "Hey Jude" a pretty song, and "Ballad Of John And Yoko". The sixties was a horrible decade of rock music. I would have to be said that only very few good songs came out in the sixties, which one of them is Neil Young's "Down By The River".

Editorial Review

Pop's rush to raid the cradle continues with this promising debut by 25-year-old Canadian singer Michael Bublé. And while the young vocal star's good looks are smart enough for a boy band, his muse seems to have sprung from a more sassy and compelling musical era. Mentored by Paul Anka (whose '50s hit "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" is covered in dreamy, cabaret fashion here), Bublé sings in the orbits of Darin and Sinatra, covering swing epoch gems ("Come Fly with Me," "The Way You Look Tonight," "That's All") and rock era standards (Van Morrison's "Moondance," "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by the Brothers Gibb, Queen's "Crazy Little Ting Called Love") with equal aplomb. David Foster's production is typically slick and played to the back row of the bleachers, but it's informed by smart contexts provided by such arrangers as Johnny Mandel, Randy Waldman, and Mike Melvoin. If the choices of material are sometimes staid and predictable, they also give the singer a crucial framework for building toward something more challenging; his is a bright future. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Love This Guy
While we've heard them time and time again - Buble takes the classic standards and adds his own twist. No, maybe there is nothing terribly new going on - but he didn't mutilate the music either.Relaxing - Just lovely.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rare to find - an entire CD of excellent music!
Michael Buble is simply incredible, and although I do own all of his CDs it's this one that I come back to time and time again. This is the perfect CD to play while sipping a glass of wine or enjoying dinner with friends. It's slow and sensual at times and then lively and fun.I simply cannot say enough good about this artist or this CD.

1-0 out of 5 stars 'Standards Lite'
While certainly a better presentation than the Rod Stewarts and Michael Boltons of the world and their flaccid stabs at music way different from a rocker's sensibilities, Buble is a standards singer for those who think Kenny G is a jazz musician and John Tesh is a pianist.

Editorial Review

Julio Iglesias--he of the endearing Latin accent, endless-summer suntan, and stunning charisma--could make "Mary Had a Little Lamb" sound sexy, so it's no surprise that the 11 selections here smolder with the approximate heat of high noon in his native Madrid. What may be surprising to longtime listeners, though, is the range of songs he chose to cover. While "It's Impossible," the Perry Como hit with the famously pretty-sad melody, comes across an obvious choice and benefits from a swooning yet sure-footed performance, two Foreigner classics, "I Want to Know What Love Is" and "Waiting for a Girl Like You," seem somehow beneath our debonair ladykiller. Still, smothered by his signature passion, they play like entirely new songs--less earnest and searching, more insistent and sweet. Such is the case with Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting" and, to some extent, the Cars' "Drive"; instead of sounding like lite-FM retreads, they become heated extensions of his Julio-ness. Older hits--"This Guy's in Love with You," "The Most Beautiful Girl"--benefit from a certain effortlessness; these are numbers pre-dipped in the knee-weakening romance Julio specializes in. Overall, it's a modern/classic commingling that proves what millions of women worldwide have suspected for decades: where practitioners of pulse-quickening, fantasy-fueling vocals are concerned, there is no equal. 4-0 out of 5 stars Effortless Passion
There's something irresistible about Julio Iglesia's singing. He exudes an effortless passion of romance in nearly every song he touches. It's no surprise that finally he has released an album concentrating solely on romantic tunes. However, at first glance, some of his choices might seem out of character. With two Foreigner songs, "I Want To Know What Love Is" and "Waiting For A Girl Like You", Julio injects dreamy casualness that begs a listen from worldly lovers.Harry Nilsson's "Everybody's Talking" has a spirited freshness and the Bee Gees, "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?" is a completely new interpretation. There might be a temptation to classify these songs as pure elevator backtracks, but Iglesia never falters in his quality. The only question here is why it took him so long to produce an album concentrating solely on romantic classics. There is no doubt there will be a follow up and his fans are already anxiously waiting.

5-0 out of 5 stars He never fails to amaze me.
How can you not love this man,his voice is so romantic and this cd is superbly produced.I have the Japan Version with an extra track and the sound quality is astonishing...highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Si es Julio...es Bueno!

This is the first attempt to consolidate all of Sir Elton's hit singles, from three labels, in one collection. It once would've required at least four CDs to own the best stuff here. Many think the legendary performer was at his best in the early to mid-'70s, and the incredible string of singles that ran from 1970's "Your Song" through 1977's "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" remains mighty impressive. But in retrospect, as they're presented here, '80s hits like "I'm Still Standing" and "Sad Songs" add much to an already amazing legacy. Three Disney tunes, the lush "The One," and two from Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars From what I can tell, Disc 1 should have been 2 discs.
I'm an old Elton John / Bernie Taupin fan. That time was Elton's most creative period, and where the most hits came out (both on AM and FM radio). Disc 1 has a lot of great hits, but has a lot missing (including entire albums). On a minor point, there is nothing from Empty Sky (this is OK - it wasn't that great of an album, but should have been represented by something). On a major point, nothing came from (the incredibly great) Tumbleweed Connection. That album had (at least) 4 great hits (Amoreena, My Father's Gun, Country Comfort, and Burn Down The Mission). With those 2 omissions, lets go through the rest of the John / Taupin library.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
I simply LOVE this album.Elton John is a phenomenal artist. His lyrical flow soothes my soul. This album is definitely my comfort music when I'm sad, and my fun music when I'm happy.I pop in my cd while I'm driving down the road and it feels as though I'm taking a stroll down memory lane. These songs fill my heart with wonderful memories and I find myself putting certain songs on repeat.I recommend this CD to anyone who wants to hear some good music.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Elton Collection available today.
There's no way you can reduce Elton John's career to one cd and do it justice. So we have this beautifully remastered collection of hits on two cds. The first cd is devoted exclusively to Elton John's Greatest Hits from the 1970s. This is all right, because many of Elton's long time fans will agree that this was his most creative and prolific period. You get Bennie and the Jets, Crocodile Rock, Honky Cat, Good bye Yellow Brick Road, Philadelphia Freedom, and much more.

5-0 out of 5 stars HoorayFor Roddywood !!
The performances contained in this CD demonstrate a song stylist master at work.Rod has simply taken all the talent, creativity and energy he has remaining and applied it to these masterpieces.Everyone associated with this recording must certainly be proud of their musical endeavors. In all candor, after listening to this CD for several repeated plays,I can honestly state the the American listening public richly deserves this product. Rod has shown the American Idols winners, and losers, how it's done. They, and other musical hopefuls, can certainly take a page from Rod's "playbook", on how to conduct asuccessful longterm career in show business.I suspect that Rod has modeled his career from the great singer and showmanCliff "Ukelele Ike" Edwards. Hopefully, Rod's career will continue into his 90's as did Cliff Edwards.

Few bands of the 1960s retained as much a sense of the roots of rock and roll as did Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their music is rife with country, rockabilly, and R&B influences, a combination that produced several hit singles--most of which are present on this collection. These include "I Heard It through the Grapevine," "Lodi," "Up Around the B ," "Who'll Stop the Rain," and of course "Bad Moon Rising." This is an excellent greatest-hits collection, and a perfect introduction to the music of a band that has been enduringly influential. Read more

THE BEST SHOW ON BROADWAY I HAVE SEEN IN YEARS.FROM BEGINNING TO END!LISTENING TO THE CD BRINGS BACK THAT WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE AT THE THEATER.I WAS ONLY ONE WHEN SHERRY CAME OUT SO, I OF COURSE DIDNOT GROW UP WITH THIS MUSIC BUT, LOVE IT!. IF YOU CAN'T SEE THE BROADWAY SHOW BUY THE CD (ALSO GET THE BEST OF FRANKIE VALLI AND THE FOUR SEASONS) OH WHAT A NIGHT!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Those Jersey Boys!
I never thought that Jersey Boys would be such a hit on Broadway enough to win Tony Award for Best Musical. Although Broadway has not really brought out anything spectacular but everybody who has seen it live as loved it. If you can't spend money on tickets to see the show, you might as well by the compact disc and just imagine the live performance. The Four Seasons were one of the biggest music groups of the last century. Who would have thought that these four Jersey boys from Belleville, New Jersey also hometown to actor Joe Pesci would become such a huge hit. The show and the compact disc show how it began for them with all the trials and tribulations. If you can't see the show regardless of cost or travel, why not buy the compact disc? I have bought two for other people.

5-0 out of 5 stars His best record
One song in particular, JOHN WAYNE GACY JR, is startling. The first few times I played the CD, without really listening to the lyrics, I heard it as a love song, due to the gorgeous minor-key melody, then only realized later what it was about. The song is eerily beautiful, and at the same time, stunningly creepy, about the love a serial killer feels for his victims."He dressed up like a clown for them."I wasn't aware that pop music could do something as complex as this, until Stevens did so.

1-0 out of 5 stars Recycled goods
Having listened to Steven's previous albums, Greetings from Michigan and Seven Swans countless times, I cannot help but to notice the amount of regurgitation on this album.Stevens blatantly rips off his own music.I consider Michigan to be Sufjan's masterpiece.Do yourself a favor and start there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rewards with time and patience.
Ok where to begin. I am some what astonished by the few reviews I have read for this album that have been negative (i.e. 2 stars or lower). Not because "oh these people are idiots, or this music is just to much for them" but precisely the opposite reason. There were a few reviews that were 2 stars or lower from people who wrote somewhat intelligent and thoughtful comments. My advice to these people is to just give this some time to sink in. I know that it is not above these people, and If they give it a few extra listens it will eventually catch them.

I've been a fan of Pink Floyd since the 70's.I never much cared for the whole disco movement in the 80's, so why do I like this album so much?Maybe it's just that good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good stuff.
Don't pay attention to people leaving one star reviews, all they have to say about the album is that they can't believe that anyone has the nerve to cover Comfortably Numb this way.

Editorial Review

All hail the riff king! The Black Keys' guitarist/singer Dan Auerbach has the meanest way with a hook since Jimmy Page. He adds to his arsenal on the band's fourth full-length release, on which each track pounds its way into your skull with fuzzy, swampy fury. Less is very definitely more in Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney's world as the stripped-down guitar/drums attack smolders, burns, and then ignites without shifting into heavy-metal overdrive. But even with the occasional ballad such as "You're the One" slowing the momentum, this is an intoxicating blast of raw, thudding blues power. The duo impressively control the dynamics, raising and lowering the tension in a yin-yang struggle of ominous, greasy, heavy blues-rock that never sounds forced. With the exception of a few subtle but effective overdubs, this is the sound Auerbach and Carney heard in the drummer's basement studio where the music was recorded. Like the best rock and roll, the disc exudes a dark, cramped claustrophobia and foreboding sense of danger, just like wandering through a haunted house, unaware of what is behind the next corner. It's the main ingredient in the band's deceptively simple yet potent formula that creates this addictive, compelling, and often intense album. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Unadorned rock and roll
The Black Keys are one of my favorite rock and roll bands with their garage band minimalism tempered by touches of blues and psychedelia. But I was a little surprised when the band signed to the eclectic Nonesuch label and wondered how this would affect their sound. Well, I needn't wonder at all as this album was literally recorded in a band member's basement and keeps the same raw and exciting sound as the bands previous work. Most of the songs are kept short and sweet with blistering blues based guitar and basic drumming giving way to melodic hooks like in "Your Touch" which is very catchy and has elements of pop without compromising their rough and tumble sound.
3-0 out of 5 stars Magic Potion
Focus: that's the element that seems to be missing from The Black Keys' latest long-player, their fourth album in all. The blues-rockin' riffs, courtesy of Dan Auerbach, are present and correct, and Patrick Carney's drums are rarely less than suitably bombastic, but Magic Potion suffers, rather, from alarming dips in concentration. For every romper-stomper of a four-minute fuzz-soaked foot-stamper, there's a meandering exercise in mediocrity just around the metaphysical bend.
5-0 out of 5 stars Magic indeed...
Unlike many of the other reviewers here, this is the first Black Keys album I have heard, and I was extremely impressed. The vocals remind me of a mix between Bob Dylan, Led Zeplin, and Jimmi Hendrix and the guitar work is absolutely amazing. Many of the reviewers here stated that this album may not be as good as their previous releases; if that statement is remotely true I will be buying every one of their cds. After hearing the first 3 tracks I knew instantly that this band will be one of my all-time favorites.Do yourself a favor and check this out.I highly recommend this album. ... A flood of memories pour in when I hear Frankie belt out the high notes on all their wonderful hits from the 1960's.
5-0 out of 5 stars Memories!
If you had an older, teenage sibling during the late 50s or early 60s then this CD will bring back some memories! Nearly all of the tracks on this CD must have had significant radio air time in those years- the tune and even lyrics all came back.
