3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Collection bad sound quality.
This CD has a great collection of enigma songs. But the sound quality really is very bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF A KIND
This album is a CD that's alive with its own heartbeat, breathing rhythms, and soul which cannot go unnoticed even by the casual listener.Enigma The Greatest Hits with its "enigmatic" title "L S D, Love, Sensuality, Devotion" includes one track, "Sadeness [Part 1]" which hearkens to the time in the early 90s of "Moodfood" by Moodswings, taking one back to a time all its own.Couldn't get enough of this then, and it has me in its grips once more. The tracks are nice & long and beautifully melt into each other. It's timeless and a guaranteed winner for a new listener as well as the connoisseurs of this genre. You'll give your system's "repeat" function a workout with this one! Ladd, Music Maniac

4-0 out of 5 stars great compilation!!
As a fan of ENIGMA I purchased this cd just recently, altough it isn't new anymore. You can find on it most of their best titles of their earlier albums. My personal 'highlight' of this cd would be the number: 'tnt for the brain'.

So much unnecessary fuss was made over Enigma's juxtaposition of the sexual and sacred. After all, Prince had been doing it for years, and his take on it was far more interesting--and a lot more daring. But Enigma's Read more

I bought this because it's very relaxing to me. I really enjoy this cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Found it Unexpectedly
Before I started listening to Enigma I was the type of person that listned to korn, Rammstein, Disturbed and so on but then my russian friend who'd been listening to it sience he was like 7 gave this cd to me not expecting much I poped it in and was imediatly amazed by the sound of it. The musical side of me had been awakened I could not stop listening once it ended I just started it again and again. The song Principles of Lust was by far the best song on the entire cd its dancefloor beat, its grgorian chants the flute part it was all done flawlessly and amazingly. This cd is amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Best of All Time!
This is simply one of best ambient new age CD's of the 90s and certainly the best I have heard.I never get tired of this CD and have owned it since it's first release. It heightens the senses and soothes the soul.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolute disappointment - BEWARE!
I am a huge fan of Enigma and have all four of their previous albums, which are absolutely excellent. This is why I was so disappointed with this one.It is random and directionless and much of it sounds like individual band members tuning up.The entire album is pervaded by a supremely annoying, harsh, distorted electronic sound that grates on the ears.It seems to me that in this music Michael Cretu has become a modern-day German full of Angst and self pity that no one could care less about.Boredom and annoyance are the two lasting impressions of this album.

3-0 out of 5 stars With a name like Voyageur you'd think you would be going somewhere.

4-0 out of 5 stars Same Style, New Sound
I liked Enigma becoause their sound was different from the mainstream. In this album they step away form the more ambient relaxing sound of their past works. They venture into more of an upbeat sound yet it is still relaxing and refreshing to here, and in keeping with their past works they still manage to be different. I have been a fan of electronica music and trust DJ Tiesto, 4 Strings, Ian Van Dahl, and their likes can't touch this stuff though ATB kind of comes close, but not quite. It is something truely unique as Enigma has always been.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential T.N.T. For The Brain
Aside from hearing someone else's copy of 'The Screen Behind The Mirror', 'Love Sensuality Devotion' was my first album by Enigma. However, my actual introduction was through the 'Sadness' single. At the time it was unlike anything I'd ever heard before and I was simply blown-away by the Gregorian chanting set amidst modern world grooves and infectiously seductive dance beats.
5-0 out of 5 stars The "best"New Age album ever
I was reading through some trashy reviews of some customers who don't know actually what is new age music. If you wish to get pure new age album I recommend this one because thiswould be the best you will have. This is the masterpiece of Enigma. I owned all 5 Enigma albums and my favourite one is this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible - the only word to describe it
My aunt put this in the car one day when we were driving to my uncle's house. I had just played the song "Chaiyya Chaiyya" from Inside Man, and she said I bet you'll like this, it's a lot of the same style. As soon as she put it on, "North" came on, and absolutely blew me away. The beautiful ambient sounds and the sparse, yet undeniably enchanting African vocals were just beautiful. By the time "North Part 2" came on, we were both drumming our hands and dancing in the car. Whoever thought of mixing African and Celtic music, then setting it to a rave/techno beat is a genius.

Their debut album broke down many tediously outdated barriers. Now the Afro-Celts are back with another genre-bursting, non-preachy, multi-culti soundscape. There has never been anything bland or generic about the ensemble's output as their concept of one-world music is less color-blind than color-appreciative; in other words, they don't ignore our differences but celebrate them. I have followed afro-celt from the first. And, from the first I have anxiously awaited the next release. But this one blew me away. Is there a bad track? Hell no!! I cannot wait for the next. It will be hard to surpass this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars More of the same great sound . . .
I have most of this group's recordings, and this new CD is of a piece with the rest of them. Wonderful driving rhythms and aching yearning in the voices, some songs, even those in other languages, so heartfelt it's hard not to sing along once the melody lines become familiar. To my ear, this group just keeps getting better and better as they weave together many strains of world music and varieties of instrumentation into a seamless aural tapestry. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The primordial unknown--or the modern urban dweller's impressions thereof--has long been a staple of New Age music. So it was only a matter of time before some studio whiz got the notion to take the translation process one step further and bring that atmosphere to the dance floor. It's definitely authentic--the creators studied and borrowed genuine chants from African tribes--but just as importantly, it's remarkably seductive. The chart-topping signature song, "Sweet Lullaby," is indicative of what's going on in the grooves of the other nine tracks; ambient house beats burble pastorally while "multi-culti" samples ebb and flow gracefully, even romantically, through the mix. 4-0 out of 5 stars Keystone album of Tribal Techno genre
Trust Peter Gabriel to blaze this trail, leading a small horde of other musicians and artists to follow in his footsteps.Much of what has come after has been of the cookie-cutter and imitation variety, but this album, to me anyway, is the foundation stone of what I like to think of as Tribal Techno.
5-0 out of 5 stars Techno Bell
I first heard Deep Forest back when i was in high school, working at Taco Bell.We listened to Muzak's "Hitline" satellite program there and they used to play track #1- "Deep Forest", all the time.I was fascinated by that song....I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be techno, dance, ambient, or whatever.I wasn't even sure what language they were singing in.It took me a while to track down the artist and CD and 11 years later I am *still* listening to it.Marta's Song from Boheme also rocks....
5-0 out of 5 stars Into Another World
This music speaks a language that is new to our ears, yet familiar in a way that can't be named. The first time I heard it was in a shop in Santa Barbara, CA over a decade ago. I immediately went up to the counter, asked what was playing, and purchase it. Years later, one of these songs would turn up as the theme to the reality TV show, Survivor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really Different.
This album is cool, but if you don't try to get in and create a mood for it you won't get it. Dim the lights, read the song titles and imagine you're right there with the natives, you'll dig it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Boring
This is the first CD of all percussion I have ever bought, and it'll prolly be my last.An album of all percussion is, frankly, pretty boring.Much more interesting to hear percussion-heavy *music* such as, say, Peter Gabriel."The Hunt" and "The Dancing Sorcerer" are ok, but even at its best, this album is background noise.

Michael Cretu, the man behind Enigma, formulates an intriguing symbiosis between New Age musicality, classical and world-music influences, and dance-club rhythms. Gregorian chants, Native American meditations, and the breathy musings of a French chanteuse have been incorporated into legendary dance-floor hits from his previous three albums. 5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite Enigma album
Even non-Enigma fans can appreciate this CD. There is not a single weak track on here and the songs range from really upbeat (Push the Limits) to slow and relaxing (Traces), uplifting (Between Mind and Heart) to almost angry sounding (Camera Obscura). If you don't get any other Enigma album, get this one (and maybe "Le Roi..."). I mean "Smell of Desire" is pretty much worth the price of the CD all by itself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chill-Out at its best
im a heavy listener of faster material, mainly trance and progressive. Like nice solid beats, and always appreciated a good melody and a background. Never did I think that I would ever actually end up addicted to a chillout or new age album, and here it is, im puttin my Dj Tiesto on hold, puttin all my CDs away, to listen to this beautiful and rich album. I cant go an hour without playing Push The Limits or Traces. Whether you like clubbing, or staying at home, or getting drunk, or whatever, its a sin not to give enigma a chance with this, even if your a fan of faster stuff like drumnbass or trance.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the better cd's I have heard lately.
Well, many people would say that Enigma is backround music or novelty music or whatever but I have to disagree. Many of the songs on here are too powerful and surley have too much emotion to be simply called backround music. With that said this cd has 3 of my favorite Enigma songs which include: "Push the Limits", "Gravity of Love", and Traces(Light and Weight). The rest of the album is very good also these are just the songs that really stick out to me. All in all I would be very quick to recommend this cd to those with open minds and fans of real music. ... Read more

If Monterrey, Mexico is, indeed, the center of the Latin alternative-music universe, then native sons Kinky are doing a great job of spreading the gospel. The five-piece collective's self-titled debut is an infectious collision of wah-wah guitars, pounding dance beats, and home-cooked rhythm and brass. The band injects just enough authentic tang in its music to raise an eyebrow with the traditionalists, while playing songs demented enough to lure in fans of new-school Mexican electro-pop acts like Plastilina Mosh and Titan. Produced by British tastemaker Chris Allison, whose previous clients include Coldplay and the Beta Band, the album floats on a blissful groove throughout, snaking through styles as diverse as retro shout-along funk ("Mas"), slick, Moby-like trance ("The Great Spot"), and Daft Punk-influenced electro ("Ejercicio #16"), without overpowering Kinky's own emerging identity. 5-0 out of 5 stars A great original
After listening to their disappointing sophomore album, "Atlas", I was compelled to write about how great Kinky's debut effort actually is. This album is all about unabashed creativity, while not trying to target any specific market. The sound is all over the map - you'd like to put it in some neat little category but it won't fit there. It doesn't fit anywhere, and that's what's great about it. Full of energy, with electric guitars, conga drums, electro-beats, the occasional vocoder, goofy Spanish lyrics, it's hard not to get a buzz listening to this CD. Not only do their songs sound like they could be used in commercials, they ARE used in commercials (ie. "Mas" used for the Nissan Altima). I've seen these guys live and they pumped even more energy into their songs than what was on the CD, which is hard to believe, and this made listening to "Atlas" (which I was initially really excited about) all the more disappointing. Regardless, "Kinky" will stay as one my road-trip favorites for a long time to come. ... Read more

i first heard an afro celt song on the gangs of new york soundtrack. i fell in love with it and decided to buy a cd. i got release and i am so damn glad i did. I love this music and listen to it a lot.It love how it mixes different music styles together. This CD is my favorite of the 3.My skating coach has cut music for a skater off this CD and one of the other volumes. People from my skating and Dance class found it very inspirational as well. The only thing I wish they did differently on the CDs is provide a translation for the non-English parts.I enjoy them singing in the other languages, it is beautiful and it fits the music perfectly but it would be kind of nice to know what they are sing.

This album, far from a retread of their previous release, Volume 1: Sound Magic, has a new infusion of pop and techno styles. Release isn't nearly as startling different as its predecessor, but at the same time it has more staying power and should gain the Afro Celt Sound System an even broader audience than it had before. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Musical Erotica.....
I happened to have the good fortune one night, of catching a few moments of these fellows on a PBS special. It left me lusting for more. I cannot recall ever having been so enthralled after such a brief encounter with a group's music.
4-0 out of 5 stars Where to from here?
Afro Celt Sound System's first album is, as their name says, a clever and in parts quite stunning mix of Celtic & world music that garnered huge praise and success on its release. But despite its ingenuity it's an odd record, veering often incongruously between "dance" music and much slower and occasionally quite turgid world/folk. Truth is that it's the more upbeat club/dance tracks, in particular the outstanding "Sure-As-Not/Sure-As-Knot", "Whirl-Y-Reel 1" & Whirl-Y-Reel 2", that make it come alive and which justify a great deal of the praise heaped on it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ditto

5-0 out of 5 stars Boheme is an extraordinary musical masterpiece!
Boheme by Deep Forest is an original work of art which integrates so many different musical ideas it should appeal to most listeners. This is one CD where you may never get the itch to "fast forward" a particular song.It flows so well I am always surprised each time it ends."Why do all the good ones seem so short?"I'll say to myself.I enjoy listening to other artists like Mythos, Enigma, and more recently Delirium or Magna Canta. All of these artists create wonder by blending modern day sound with traditional concepts and/or styles. However, Boheme began to have a unique and "sacred" appeal to it so I regard this CD as very special.I recommend Boheme to any who wish to be "enchanted" by the forces of ancestral yesteryear blended with the musical delights of today!!I own two copies of Deep Forest's "Boheme" to make certain I will never be without this great music.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best
Just wanted to add my quick two cents regarding this album. This is the best album from Deep Forest and is one I play regularly. The mixture of sound and music in this album is really great.I'm still waiting for Deep Forest to put out another album as good as this one.None of them have come close.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really pretty.And...did I already say really pretty?
Boy, this is a tough one to review. For just about anyone, I mean, because this is so unusual, so far removed from anything else, even other New Age music (oh, just deal already!), there's absolutely nothing to compare it to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sublime and Lush
I own every album produced by this Nitin. The man never ceases to amaze me. This album is such a lush soundscape of electronically fused cultural music. The album takes you through one of the best journeys that Nitin Sawhney provides for my ears. I especially love the track "Dead Man"

5-0 out of 5 stars Ecstatically beautiful.
I own every album by Nitin Sawhney except one. He is one of the rare artists whose albums I buy without listening to a music sample first. This particular album is superb and a wonderful introduction to his previous work. This is music for the soul, especially the gypsy soul. This is the kind of music that will lift your soul whether you enjoy it alone or with company. It's the perfect soundtrack for life'scontemplative or creative moments.I play Nitin Sawhney whenever I have friends over and they always end up seduced and compelled by the beauty of his music.Don't deprive yourself of a mesmerizing experience.Dive into Nitin's music now!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant
Writer, producer, DJ, composer & arranger Par excellence - Nitin Sawhney has done it again with PHILTRE, a metamorphosis of cultures, sounds & emotions. As good as "Human", Philtre seems to travel the world with diverse influences from India (very obviously)& Latin America.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very addictive music!
I only grew familiar with Miss Atlas through Sarah Brightman's use of her on Harem and WOW! this is one addictive singer/musician.I am enchanted with the fresh (to me) Egyptian music and sound and this woman can sing equisitely!I haven't lost my taste for this CD yet and am playing it quite a bit on rotation. What else has this woman done?I'll buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars a musical menage...
i stumbled upon this cd completely by chance...
5-0 out of 5 stars Pure entertainment for the passionate!
Hmm...quite funny to read that some guys here think they know Natacha better than she knows herself. Poor guys... just listen to the ladies and you'll learn someday. This album is the Best of what Natacha feels she has at the moment and I celebrate her choices (even if made with the production team). The new mixes by Transglobal Underground really rock! Just feel the modern basslines vibrating... would you rather be without them? And absolutely wonderful TJ Rehmi provides a great groovy dance mix of Leysh Nat'Arak. And a great dub version of the same song in the end taking us back to the feelings of the beginning. But some of you think it's a waste of space? Haven't you guys ever been to parties? Repetition of the hit elements works wonders and enhances the mood of the listeners when it's used in an intelligent way, like the people behind this album. The selection and sequencing of the songs shows their highly developed sense of aesthetics and a good sense of humour too! This groundbreaking Best of compilation is a story or a soundtrack of it's own right. Hey diss-a man, don't think-a so much... just feel-a! Natacha, you send shivers down to every sane man's spine, and that's the way I like it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE ITEM I WANT YOU TO SEND ME
You have had a problem sending me a disc of Deep Forest that only contains 15 songs (you send me the same disc two times), and this one contains the 21 songs that I want(Remember that I have return the disc of 15 songs two times). I would like to recieve this disc because this is what I looking for. Thanks for the interest.

4-0 out of 5 stars My first exposure to this duo and not my last....
Beautiful re-arrangements of traditional African ballads with solid harmonious orchestration. This is my first exposure to Deep Forest and if what the more experienced reviewers are saying, not their best work, I can't wait to explore more.Perhaps not the best choice, but "Essence" has me wanting more of this group's work.

3-0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag of surprises
Deep Forest's greatest hits collection finally sees a stateside release, albeit with a drastically different tracklisting to its import counterparts. While imports versions tend to be better in this case neither version is truly satisfactory. The US release offers Deep Forest's biggests hits "sweet lullaby" (in a slightly remixed form) and "marta's song" as well smart choices like "ekue ekue" and "twosome." These songs really showcase the act's ability create modern vocal pop songs from ethnic chants and old folk songs. The US collection sadly omits the duo's collaboration with Peter Gabriel on "while the earth sleeps." Neither domestic nor import release give a nod to "Pacifique" - the soundtrack they scored. The US tracklisting works well despite its noticeable omissions. It does try to make up with the inclusion of the Deep forest remix of "undecided" for artist Youssou N'dour. If you are a casual fan of deep forest or relaxing world music this is a great hits package. For fans of the group this album may be a huge disappointment and it may be worth seeking out one of the 2 import versions that exists. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Better Enigma Re-Mixes...
Each version or re-mix of Mea Culpa will not disappoint. Each track is layered with sensual and seductive vocals by Enigma members Louisa Stanley and Sandra Cretu. The re-mix version titled Fading Shades shares the same name as Sandra's own 1995 solo European pop-dance/ambient album ;It's an unavailable import at the time of this writing.Mea Culpa's tracks continue with the thematic atmosphere as the album with it's Gregorian chanting, heavy drum beats, seductive French lyrics ! Mea Culpa is also one of the stronger tracks from the MCMXI a.D. album. The lyrics translated from French to English are about an individual's obsession and overpowering temptation into the world of forbidden love and passion;Only the best of lustful intentions ! I guess some things do sound better in French...

5-0 out of 5 stars MEA CULPA
I LOVE THE VOICE OF ENIGMA--SANDRA

5-0 out of 5 stars Power, enchantment, sensuality.
This is the best way to describe this single, "Fading ShadesMix", is one of best singles than I have listened of Enigma, surroundsthree songs in a single one harmoniously. The "Orthodox Mix", isfantastic and the "Catholic Version" causes that one runs to lookfor E1 and to listen to it again.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful voice, moving songs, great beats
I first discovered Ofra Haza as a kid while rummaging through my mom's extensive cd collection on a rainy day.I saw "Shaday" and the beautiful, mystical-looking cover and decided to play it and see what it was all about.Boy, am I glad!
5-0 out of 5 stars voice of an angel....
Ofra Haza was someone I had only heard of, after her death (due to AIDS related illness) in 2000.After reading much about her life, her beliefs and her talent, "Shaday" really peaked my curiousity.I hadn't been exposed to Yemenite music (from Israel) in the past, and had only heard the samples on Amazon, but that was enough to motivate me and buy the album. This is something I am very glad I did.
5-0 out of 5 stars OfraForever!
I bought this CD because I liked the cover, I had never heard of Ofra. After listening to it I had to buy more recordings from her. It's a shame she is no longer with us. But her music will live forever. Ofra R.I.P ... Read more
