5-0 out of 5 stars Best Show on Broadway
I saw this musical last year, and thought it was amazing!!! The music is unbelivable!!!! Idina Menzel and kristin Chenoweth are wonderful, two of the best voices I've ever heard. If you like musicals, then you HAVE to get this CD.I've almost worn it out.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Necessarily Wicked!
I was excited about getting this compact disc about Wicked, the hottest ticket on Broadway. I liked the beginning about how the witch was born green. I think the compact disc does serve a service in providing us a closer view of the musical itself. I didn't care for the story involving Glinda, the good witch, and Elfaba, the bad witch who is green. I didn't like the story itself. While I am sure that the musical is much better than just listening to it but I was uncomfortable with Elfaba's portrayal as being born green and bad while Glinda was both popular and pretty. I think I was just more sympathetic towards Elfaba because she was the outcast and I always find myself among the outcasts so I felt sorry for Elfaba. I don't find much sympathy for Glinda who has spent her entire life being both popular and gifted so of course, she doesn't change. She gets rewarded while poor Elfaba gets treated as bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Musical EVER.
I'm the kind of person that listens to showtunes all of the time. Seriously. Wicked is what made me that kind of person. The first time I had ever heard it was my first year doing choir, and ever since then, I've loved it. It's got amazing songs and two of the best musical theatre actressess to ever be on stage, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth. So if you love musicals, this is the CD to buy! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost!
I have always been a sucker for Sarah and so glad they stuck with the original duets like Jose Cura's (my favorite tenor oozing with great machismo) and Andrea Bocelli. My only complaint is the Phantom of the Opera with Steve Harley (who is he?)Pardon me, I don't want to be mean but this is soooo horrific, let alone it was on track no. 1.What a terrible thing to start the cd.When I play cd, I skip no. 1 and the rest is simply divinely Sarah.I would have seen soooo tickled if she dueted Phantom with Gerard Butler (another macho cutie pie).

5-0 out of 5 stars Good
Well, being a fan of Sarah Brightman since her Phantom days says that I liked this album,it is not her best album, but its a good singles album and for new fans to get to know her better. She always and mainly have themes in her albums, for example, FLY, more pop sounding, TIME TO SAY GOOD BYE, more classical, or just songs from Webber, but this album is just her songs from past albums.so its good to that part.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sarah Brightman La Diva
This is an amazing CD for new fans and for your collection if you are a fan yet, the songs are carefully selected for being a great CD!! A question of honour is different from the Fly CD, if you are a Sarah's fan this CD is perfect, if you don't you will be a Sarah's fan!! ... Read more

DO NOT EVEN QUESTION THE NEED TO BUY THIS CD!!!Seriously, unless you've just spent the past year living on mars (PS, welcome back), you could not have escaped the worldwide hoopla that has surrounded High School Musical. This sort of thing happens for a reason! This movie, is almost entirely faultless, even in aspects that in other movies most would immediately point out and pick apart, because in this movie, it just works.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great, Awesome, Fantastic!
This is a very very good movie. My friends and i can sit watching it over and over again! The songs are very fun and i seam to be singing them all around the house!I think they have a very good cast! This is the best movie ever!! :-)

This movie is so dorky! Zac Efron literally can't sing! This guy named Drew Seely's voice was"blended" with his. And Ashley Tidesdale's voice is so whiny and annoying! This movie came out in Jaunary-february and it's still all anyone talks about! Zac efron and ashley are on the cover of ALL TEEN MAGAZINES! 5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD of a Cassic Show
I had trepidations about this revival. After hearing this CD, I want to get down to B'way ASAP to see it.This recording is wonderful. The few middling spots ("Sing" being the chief offender) are completely outweighed by the most complete recording of the piece, in proper order finally, and the exuberant cast performing a classic score.Charlotte D'Amboise my not have Donna MacKechnie's pipes, but her stirring rendition of "The Music and the Mirror" is a showstopper.Jason Tam's few moments of "Oh God I need this job..." are eloquent and subtle (wish we heard more from him on this disc). But the entire cast is euphoric in their eagerness to please and present character.Easily the best new Broadway recording since "Sweeney Todd" (and that's saying something).Go, go go.And buy, buy, buy. It's "One Singular Sensation."

3-0 out of 5 stars deja vu ???
I was really excited about this revival... and still want to go see it when I get back to the U.S., but in all honesty, this revival album sounds like -- errrrrrr, the original one, only at different tempos.
3-0 out of 5 stars What Who Did For Love?
I was really pumped for this revival...ACL is in my blood, but I can honestly say, I'm not sure why anymore. The guys, are amazing, they all are cast well, and handle their roles well (My roommate walked in on "I Can Do That" and thought I was listening to the OBC), but the girls are seriously lacking.I felt that Deidre Goodwin and Mara Davi were the two weakest (Anyone else notice Mara go flat during "At the Ballet"?), and Jessica Lee Goldyn as Val is way too ditzy, she may be a blonde, but she was smart enough to figure out she needed to get some body work done.Even more disapointing vocally was Charlotte D'Amboise, who really IS Cassie (Just look at her carrer), but sounds more like Katherine Hepburn during "Music and the Mirror." (Maybe we need a revival of "Coco")Then, when you get to he meat of it all, the amount on the recording is barely better than the OBC, there is more extension in the Montage, and more for Zach to have dialogue in, but that is MINIMAL compared to the lack of the song "And..." or the fact that "What I Did For Love" sounds more like a stereotypical sanitized 11'o Clock number ala "For Good."And, big suprise, Paul's monologue was left off (It may not be a song, but to reduce the role to just "Who Am I Anyway?" seems like a slight crime) The Orchestrations make some moments, like the opening sound way to polished to be a rehearsal piano. This was a mediocre recording, nothing to get really fired up over, but still above the level of only being useful as a coaster. ... I was very impressed by Mr. Grigolo's singing. I think he has an amazing voice and a very successful future ahead of him. However, I hope that his choice of songs improves. I did like Tu Sei, it was my favorite on the album. The singing was pure and the music accompaniment was very good. I also liked You Are My Miracle (duet w/Nicole Scherzinger). I was pleasantly surprised by Nicole's singing. I think they made a great collaboration on this song.

THE BEST SHOW ON BROADWAY I HAVE SEEN IN YEARS.FROM BEGINNING TO END!LISTENING TO THE CD BRINGS BACK THAT WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE AT THE THEATER.I WAS ONLY ONE WHEN SHERRY CAME OUT SO, I OF COURSE DIDNOT GROW UP WITH THIS MUSIC BUT, LOVE IT!. IF YOU CAN'T SEE THE BROADWAY SHOW BUY THE CD (ALSO GET THE BEST OF FRANKIE VALLI AND THE FOUR SEASONS) OH WHAT A NIGHT!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Those Jersey Boys!
I never thought that Jersey Boys would be such a hit on Broadway enough to win Tony Award for Best Musical. Although Broadway has not really brought out anything spectacular but everybody who has seen it live as loved it. If you can't spend money on tickets to see the show, you might as well by the compact disc and just imagine the live performance. The Four Seasons were one of the biggest music groups of the last century. Who would have thought that these four Jersey boys from Belleville, New Jersey also hometown to actor Joe Pesci would become such a huge hit. The show and the compact disc show how it began for them with all the trials and tribulations. If you can't see the show regardless of cost or travel, why not buy the compact disc? I have bought two for other people.

    Editorial Review

Based on the Maysles brothers' cult 1975 documentary of the same name, this musical is an endearing—-and sometimes genuinely heartwrenching—-oddity propelled by Christine Ebersole's exceptional, for-the-history-books performance. The movie followed the kooky duo of Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, Little Edie Beale, as they lived with their 52 cats in a derelict East Hampton mansion. The show's first act, set in 1941, is a prologue of sorts, while the second act, set in 1973, follows the movie closely. Ebersole plays Edith in Act I (which she concludes in dazzling manner with "Will You?") and Little Edie in Act II (when Mary Louise Wilson comes in to play the mother). And while Wilson is superb, this is Ebersole's show. Technically, she is flawless—-just listen to the way she changes her voice between the acts—-but she also makes Little Edie a poignant eccentric, a lost soul stuck in a world of deluded, decaying grandeur. It all peaks in the poignant "Around the World," the show's best song and an Ebersole tour de force. Note that this recording documents the Off-Broadway production; the show transferred to Broadway in the fall of 2006 with a slightly altered first act. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Score
Grey Gardens has hit written all over it and will definitely be one of the musicals to beat come awards time. It has one of the best scores to hit Broadway in many a season. The subject matter seems daunting to say the least for a musical, but they've pulled it off beautifully. Wonderful performances by Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson. Great songs that work within the story that you can sing along to. They havent skimped on the packaging, either, for this recording (made before it moves to Broadway). Essential for any theater lover. Quirky, funny and a little haunting. A class act all the way!

5-0 out of 5 stars AN EXCITING NEW MUSICAL!
As I get older, I am intrigued by what material some composers/librettists choose to musicalize. Yes, we're seeing a ton of recent books and films take the musical route, and some of them have worked: HAIRSPRAY was terrific, and I have heard great advance word on LEGALLY BLONDE. More often than not, it doesn't work, however. Anyone remember LESTAT?
5-0 out of 5 stars A real treasure
This is quite wonderful. There are a couple of clunkers - or maybe they'll just have to grow on me - but the score is smart, tuneful and totally entertaining. The range of material here is amazing - from very bouncy upbeat fun like The Five-Fifteen to Around the World, arguably the score's best.A real standout is The Revolutionary Costume for Today.A brilliantly realized piece of theater. And while all the performers shine, the real reason to buy this CD is Christine Ebersole!WOW.She gives a staggeringly brilliant performance on Disc.I can just imagine how powerful she is onstage. She moves to the top of my list. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Match!
In short, this is my new favorite CD to listen to while painting, driving, writing and working on any thing at all. I am writing my next novel as I listen to this work. The music puts me in a good mood to be sure. I oft cannot help but recall scenes from the movie while I listen to this soundtrack and so I can relive the movie even when I am too busy to get a warm cup of something wonderful and put my feet up to watch it for a couple of hours. I adored the movie, even though it differed from my expectations: better in some ways, a little lacking in others (though it gets better and better with every viewing) and it has not replaced but only added to my other 5 hour BBC P&P movie miniseries. More Jane Austen is always good. The only thing lacking in this soundtrack are one or two missing songs that I loved from the movie. But then again, and after all, I cannot truly complain, for there is so much ear candy in this modern work of classic genius. This is truly a must have.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love the soundtrack, disliked the movie
I very much enjoy the music to this movie. My favorite track is "The Secret Life of Daydreams." This music is peaceful and resting. I did not like the movie except for the gorgeous scenery and a very few moments of good acting. However, knowing the orignial story I can imagine it to the music or even just enjoy it for what it is, great music. I highly recommend this cd. My personal recommendation is that if you have the software to take out the beautiful scenery in the movie, then make your own movie set to the soundtrack backround. This way you can enjoy only what you want of the movie, accompanied by this wonderful music.

In its own way, this soundtrack to the cult SciFi Channel series embodies all the trends of film and, to a certain extent, TV-scoring circa 2006. Alien universes and mysterious plots are suggested by exotic instruments like gamelans and taikos; an otherwordly woman comes in at regular intervals to vocalize esoterically ("Lords of Kobol"); and thundering percussions suggest action ("Scar"). It's as if cult band Dead Can Dance were on the required listening list for American screen composers ("Gina Escapes"). Composer Bear McCreary pulls off the mix better than some of his contemporaries because, this being TV, he probably doesn't have the budget of a big Hollywood composer and so he can't rely on a ginormous orchestra to do the work for him (i.e., he can't just pile on dozens of violins to suggest mood). Look for ex-Oingo Boingo member Steve Bartek (who's orchestrated many of Danny Hellman's finest scores) on guest guitar on the final track, "Black Market." Read more

    Enchanting. Superb. Mesmerizing. Heart-stopping.
5-0 out of 5 stars An evolution beyond compare
This iteration of the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack series is, so far, the best. In fact, I'm convinced this is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard, for film or TV. First - the variety of styles from episode to episode involves a lot more string and guitar arrangements than did season 1, yet they all still maintain a cohesive thread that binds them together. The taiko drums depicting the deep, dark, quiet solitude of space are still there, and very prominently on a couple of tracks. The refinement of the opening credits theme song, which appears 2nd to last on the disc, fits nicely... and provides a nice gap between the main part of the soundtrack, and the killer finale - a heavy guitar laden tour de force written for the Black Market episode.

The music for Battlestar Galactica just keeps getting better and better. This music in season two is rich, densely layered, and full of emotion. I applaud the creators of the show for presenting new music in each season.I will happily keep buying the soundtracks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How could this not be good?
First of all, the cast was great! For those of you that are die-hard original cast fans, you still have to admit that Hollywood did a good job on this one.The music, of course, is incredible. The added song, sung by Minnie Driver, although really not of the same caliber as the other songs, is a great addition to the CD.As you're listening to the songs, you know exactly where you are in the movie, they've set it up really well.As per the usual, Amazon provided speedy, quality service and I received the CD right away.Anyone who liked the movie and found themselves singing along will find this CD to be a must-have for their personal collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Broadway, But Still Worth Watching
If you have never seen any version (Broadway, book, or movie) of The Phantom of the Opera, this is a worthwhile movie to watch. However, if you have seen the Broadway show or read the book of The Phantom of the Opera, then you will probably be a little bit disappointed, but it is still worth watching.
5-0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking Music
I felt Gerard Butler was the perfect Phantom despite what some other reviewers have stated...he is dark, sexy, passionate with his emotions - his voice is incredible and fits the character perfectly.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Music Is Always A Necessary Ingredient.
Music played a big part in the illusion of this movie as it set the tone for what was taking place on the screen."Wish I Would See You Again" was effective as the two lovers meet and discover all over again that the chemistry is still there, and most effective was the train scene when "Eisenheim Disappears." It was all an illusion (the whole movie), but the music helped to try to sort things out.
5-0 out of 5 stars Glass is a Master
The music for the film The Illusionist adds enormously to your appreciation of the film, it underlines the mystery, the illusion, in the story, and heightens the emotion and fantasy elements.I loved the film, and listening to the music has made me more aware of what I loved about it. For example, the music begins with a major chord. Followed by a minor chord. This creates a sense of drama and shadow - sunlight obscured by darkness. Glass is also a master of melody, with a beautiful theme for the Sophie music. The Illusionist theme is dramatic and portentous, perfectly suiting the magical doings of the plot. This is a skillful, seductive score. If you loved the film, you will love the music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravissimo Philip Glass!!!
This is more than a score for a film, it is classical music deserving of the highest respect.Echoing sentiment of many others based on his early works, I, too, thought Philip Glass was just another minimalist experimenters with a limited ouvre. But time and time again, especially with powerful scores notably; The Truman Show, Fog Of War and now, The Illusionist, I believe Philip Glass proves his place among the finest composers of our time, period.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music!
The music is beautiful! If you enjoyed this film you will enjoy this CD. A rollercoaster of POTC is waiting for you! The most themes are from the first movie. You'll hear all kinds of moods in this music: heroic, lyrical, dramatic, ironic, and, all together - very inspirational! It just makes you feel the movie better - a great example of soundtrack and movie complementing each other. This music gives a lot of speed, passion, feeling of "being there" and, makes the movie complete. Thank you to composers for such a great work done!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent! A Must Buy for Pirates Fans!
This soundtrack is just as good, if not, better than the actual movie! Hans Zimmer is an amazing man and has written perfect music for this movie. The soundtrack rocks from beginning to end. It tells the movie's story while taking on a life of its own. Mr. Zimmer definitely deserves an Academy Award for this project! Highly Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Soundtrack - some repeat tracks
Having heard about the darkness manifested in "Dead Man's Chest", I almost did not go and see it. I was pleasently surprised however, that when I did go see it I enjoyed it alot. I own the sound track for "Black Pearl" and having really enjoyed that, I really hoped the sequal would not decrease in music quality. I was not disapointed.

The soundtrack sounded refreshing and unique. Many of the tracks left a chilling impression on me, especially Passacagl ia, Kobal's Last Gleaming, and The Shape of Things to Come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Little Boy and I love it!
My 3 YO son, who wouldn't sit through the whole movie, still loves everthing CARS. He knows and plays with all the characters, enjoys the video game, and LOVES the CARS the music soundtrack. He dances to the songs or has me play it while he eats his lunch or dinner. It's fun to watch him enjoy this album so much, especially when his second favorite is a toddler tunes CD that sings ABCs and 123s.

small towns, and Route 66.Like most Pixar pictures, the music from CARS captured on the soundtrack is a delightful musical representation of what happens in the film; an audio figment embodying the film's spirit.Unlike previous Pixar soundtracks, about half of the music on the soundtrack are songs sung by various artists, with the rest of the music being parts of the score. The songs on this album range from rocking country to classic oldies to a lonely, longing folk medly.I especially like the following tunes:

Unless you're a die-hard country music fan, you'll need to watch the movie first to fully appreciate this fun album. However, if you've seen the movie as often as my family has, the soundtrack becomes part of your daily life.
