While it is true that I bought this recording in order to hear Lorraine Hunt Lieberson's performance (I would listen to her sing anything by anybody), it is a happy outcome that I can recommend the whole disc.I have not been a fan of Peter Lieberson's music before, but the pleasing variety of works here may convert me.

3-0 out of 5 stars Over the Top Vocals
I know I will probably get slammed by people for not totally disliking or completely loving this CD.I am in the middle although I lean... overall it is a bit much. Some of the arrangements of this Australian vocal power group could use a little restraint. That being said however, some of the tracks are simply amazing.I am a big James Bond fan and "You Only Live Twice" is powerful. The Queen anthem from the Highlander movies, "Who Wants to Live Forever" is stunning. The Gladiator suite from the movie brings a new dimension with the all-male vocals making it an edgier version. If you are a big fan of movie scores and even bigger popera vocals, this CD is for you.Of course, this CD may be over the top but some of the tracks are worth keeping it on repeat so you may want the options of purchasing individual tracks. That said, turn this up on your stereo system to hear the full power of ten amazing tenor voices on this John Barry-helmed CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars "John Barry Selections with The Ten Tenors ... Here's To Our Heroes"
Rhino Records presents not just Three Tenors or Irish Tenors...but the latest surprise on the classical scene is The Ten Tenors with their new album "HERE'S TO THE HEROES", featuring a twelve track compact disc with John Barry compositions galore --- Australian gentlemen who will thrill you with classical vocal repertoire of ballads and even "Les Choristes" selection with a flowery sensitive touch ... backing the tenors is the powerful London Symphony Orchestra with all the gusto they can muster and then some ... if you're a John Barry fan, collector and love the Ten Tenors then this one has your name on it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Here's to a new style of music for The Ten Tenors
I have everything the Ten Tenors have put out that in America we can buy. I listen to their CD's and DVD just about to the exclusion of everything else. Their earlier work is more vocals, rich harmony, and just about some of the best work I have heard by a group. They do a rendition of A Bridge Over Troubled Water on their Colours CD that is better than Simon and Garfunkel and I never thought anyone could sing it better-they absolutely do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every bit as excellent as the movie!
This is a great soundtrack! I love it just as much as I love the movie itself. I purchased it shortly after I got the DVD, and I can honestly say that I got my money's worth.
1-0 out of 5 stars Wunder ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like Alanis Morissette, but her voice is so un appealing with this song?I could think of several other artist that could sing this song much better than she can.I swear I wanted to puke when I heard her try to moan this song out.My dog howled in dis- approval, need I say more?

5-0 out of 5 stars Chronicles of Narinia, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
It would be nice if just once producers/directors/script-writers could realize why a story, novel, etc. is ageless and priceless and do it totally true to the original...

4-0 out of 5 stars Donhnie Darko Import Soundtrack well done
The import edition of the Donnie Darko soundtrack is two discs. One is the actual pop songs, and some classical works, which are all very good and includes the remake of Tears for Fears "Mad World."The second disc is the instrumental score, with two versions of "Mad World," included as well. The instrumental score is very dark and omenous, and the two disc set is a nice collectible piece of music that I highly reccommend. The price is a bit high, at over $30, but if you are any type of a fan of the movie, or a soundtrack collector, this album is for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars good stuff
i wish i could have bought just disc one... because disc two is mostly the instrumental stuff, which is excellent, but i don't really plan on listening to it over and over.disc one is good, although there are a few songs i skip through.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Treat For All Donnie Darko Fans
Donnie Darko is one of the best movies of the last 10 years. If you agree with this statement, keep reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Music that catches the heart!!
I am a newcomer to this artist and recently heard him during a skating event...wonderful!!This was a beautiful CD and altho primarily in Italian, wonderful listening!!I keep it in my car and am blown away every time.Have ordered two of his CDs and not been disappointed!!The reviews on Amazon.com also helped me decide...along with the music snippets...which ones I wanted to try.

5-0 out of 5 stars Andrea Bocelli's Andrea is the most awesome album from him yet!
It's true. This is Andrea's most sophisticated and, I think, most personal album to date.Fans who have been waiting since his Cieli di Toscana will not be disappointed. This is a genuine pop album.Definitely not crossover.I've let many people listen to it who thought that they wouldn't like it because it is an "opera singer," but most of them have thoroughly enjoyed it.It is a true relief from the noisey and meaningless music and lyrics of most pop music today.Definitely a must for any great music lover's collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Five stars for a duet
I purchased this album for one reason only: Bocelli's "Go Where Love Goes" duet with Holly Stell. I don't mind buying CDs with one good song, I'm used to it, and I'm not on ITunes yet. I like this duet so much, I'll try to have my brother, Filipino-American tenor Marius Evangelista, record it some day with our friend, soprano Melody Versoza, to see what it sounds like when the tenor and soprano are about the same age. Also, the last note of the duet sounds unresolved to me. It's a high Bb, but I keep waiting for it to resolve to a high C. I'm not sure why they didn't, but maybe we will. By the way, Marius's debut album is available on Amazon if you care to take a look.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Recording!
I do musical theatre with a small group, and they were doing Les Miserables. When I was cast as Young Cosette my dad thought it would be good to buy the cast recording since I was in more than one song. When it came; I listened to it i fell in love with the music. If I were to rate the songs for the top 10 I would do it like this.
4-0 out of 5 stars My favorite song
I love the whole thing but my favorite song would have to be on my own.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!
This was the first CD I purchased of Les Misérables, my first exposure to the music was a local High School performance which didn't do it justice, but I bought this CD after seeing it. It took awhile to get really into it for me, but this is incontestably my favourite musical of all time (yes even more than phantom of the opera).

5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece
There are only three pieces of music created specifically for a soundtrack thatI can say I truly adore. The akira Soundtrack (not for all taste but I feel it fits some moods well), Conan the Barbarian (simply an amazing, inspirational CD that is timeless), and Braveheart.
5-0 out of 5 stars Grand, epic, moving score
James Horner has never written a more epic score than this--it eclipses even the gorgeous music he wrote for Legends of the Fall a few years earlier. This score boasts breathtakingly beautiful music at times, and powerful and inspiring music at others. There are a few tracks that evoke the tension of battle that, while not always pleasant on the ears, do a great job expressing the mood.Horner wrote multiple themes for this one, each of which is wonderful. He wrote two themes that can be heard simultaneously for one of the greatest musical moments in cinematic history (see track 17) but that stand alone well during the rest of the album."For Love of a Princess" is probably one of my top ten favorite tracks of music ever. This album is an absolute staple of any good soundtrack collection, and would make an excellent place to start one if you haven't yet.Fantastic stuff that only gets better with repeated listens.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unusual order
The chanting is excellently done. However, the order is a bit unusual. The chants begin with Lent/Passiontide, then progress into Easter, Advent and Christmas. That's a little odd.If you're using this to focus on the life of Our Blessed Lord (like the 15 mysteries of the Rosary), the order is off kilter. But I guess you could just program your CD player with whatever order you want.
3-0 out of 5 stars Getting Lost While Meditating
I'm not an expert on meditation techniques, but I do know that once while listening to this album I woke up 50 miles from my house with nothing to clothe me but a piece of chiffon, an interesting recipe for perogies tucked under my armpit, and absolutely no recollection of what had taken place. I was lead to believe by this product that being "lost" in meditation would entail no more than some deep thinking, and not many hours of unaccounted for experience and celtic tribal tattoos wrapped around my thighs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Calming, Centering, a bit repetitive
This CD is great for creating a calm, focused environment. It can be used for meditation, relaxation,or as a sleep-aide.I have not stayed awake past the 3rd track when I listen with headphones after laying down to bed.The only complaint may be that all the tracks sound similar to me.The quality of the recording and singing is excellent. If you speak and understand Latin, you should derive even more from listening to this CD. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THE VERY BEST OF THE BEST
This is indeed a very awesome cd for me, because i would not have known which artist to buy, this way you get a variety of them. this cd is great for beginners such as I am.
4-0 out of 5 stars Era issues
This CD is only "classical" in the sense that it is music by an orchestra. It does not mean that the music is from the classical ERA of music. It is still beautiful music, but those of you who are trying to learn to distinguish the different time periods will be disappointed. The CD actually does claim to be from the classical ERA but actually has much baroque era and romantic era music on it (the romantic CD by the same publisher is also not era specific). In regard to some of the other reviews, while the classical era did have an emotionally detatched quality, not all of the music on here is classical!Still, for those of you looking for an introduction to "classical" music, it is a beautiful CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised! :)
I'm not much of a classical music buff, but I realized not too long ago that I do like many of the "popular" classical music tracks. Since then I have been on the lookout for a collection of "famous" classical music tracks that would appeal to the layman (so as to develop my interest in classical music further, and also to familiarize myself with some of the more famous classical tunes). Saw this CD on sale and bought it on a whim, and I havent been disappointed. The collection is indeed very nice, and my only gripe is that there isnt a single Beethoven track!! (and I wonder why non of the other user reviews mention this). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice introduction
This is a good well rounded collection to dip you into the classical world of Mozart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mozart is the reference point for good classical music.
A good collection of his best work and I find it helps me focus when I'm writing or contempating life.
4-0 out of 5 stars Mozart's music
This is a review of Mozart's music, not the cd.Mozart is praised to the skies by all and sundry, including most musicians, including my father, who no doubt has his reasons. But my feeling about Mozart has always been that there is nothing in Mozart's music that is other than music. There is no logical impressionism, there are no events that seem to be transpiring as in, for example, Beethoven.Mozart is just music.Mozart is to music as pure mathematics is to science. It hints of nothing else and has no application.I find some of his music irritatingly trivial, for example, Eine Kleine Nachtmuzic. This is mechanical music that one can imagine being piped in by a totalitarian government that insists everyone be cheerful. If Disneyland was an eighteenth century totalitarian state, Mozart would be its Muzak. The populace would be awakened, like Chinese train passengers, at 6AM by the strains of some allegro. They would arise and busy themselves with their ablutions in a state of thoughtless cheer, never for one moment leaving the surface of things. That being said, the second movement of Mozart's clarinette concerto is the music that one will hear on going into heaven. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars View from a trumpet player...
I got a good laugh at the reviewer who advised listeners looking for "feel good triumphant trumpet" too buy Aaron Copland's music. That's rich! And it is actually very good advice. In Aaron Copland's universe the piece "Quiet City" is not too far from the new Battlestar's mood.
5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
great soundtrack, very original pacing, style, really adds to the sombering darkness of the series and great to listen to as you work on something... dark and somber

4-0 out of 5 stars Haunting Score
Bear McCready (composer of the regular series' music) took many of Gibb's leifmotifs from this score, and for good reason. The Miniseries score begins eerily with the "Cylon" chiming, then progresses into a Galactica main theme (which is unfortunately not used at all in the regular series). The main theme is most dramatic in the the track, "The Storm and the Dead," complete with vocals. It's not your everyday "space opera" Wagnerian music; people who like that stuff should look elsewhere. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Musical Theatre
Like many people, I was drawn to Light in the Piazza by its amazing reviews. It was only after I had purchased tickets that I saw the performance on the Tonys. It didn't bode well.As a whole the c.d, much like the production, is over-dramatic, overly sensational. The music has been called "lush," however I think it leans more to "trying too hard."It is all far too overdone. The music also lacks any sort of conflict or passion. All in all, a great disappointment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely Music
I am glad that I got to see the performance before it closed in July.I had to have the CD and hope to see it again one day.The recording is very good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love This Show!!
On first hearing this CD, I was baffled about what it was all about. On second listening i began to realize that it was fairly tuneful. The third time I became hooked. The music haunted me for days, couldn't get it out of my head. It's soaring melodies are dazzling, the ballads are gorgeous and full of subtlety. If you want out and out, in your face musical comedy, see Spamalot or even Wicked. But if you want a softly melodic, character driven, nearly operatic, lovely musical drama, this is it. The title song, as performed by Kelli O'Hara is as heartbreakingly wistful as you can find. And Victoria Clark is remarkable in every moment, but her final ultimo, Fable is astonishing! A well deserved Tony winner. The entire ensemble are wonderful, particularly O'Hara and Matthew Morrison. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh, what a beautiful sound!
Oklahoma has never sounded better as sung by Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones in the 1955 movie version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's unforgettable Broadway musical. The memory of MacRae's beautiful voice lives on with this CD.I never tire of hearing this wonderful music. From the opening overture to the finale you will feel as though you're right in the theater.

4-0 out of 5 stars A definitive movie recording
A very complete recording of the strong performances from the original 1950's movie. All the dances are recorded here, especially hard to find ones (Kansas City, Many a New Day and All or Nothing). You will be disappointed if you are expecting this recording to match the broadway score.None of the dances match the score and are arranged (predictably) to fit on the screen, not stage. The bonus LP Overture is the closest rendition to the original score. For Oklahoma! fans, this recording is a collector CD, especially because it has so many bonus recordings. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Shore's LOTR Music - Classics In the Making
There are no further words one can read after you have read all of the previous reviews - there simply isn't anything else to say about Howard Shore's genius in composing the music for such a monumental film (undertaken by Peter Jackson) - a tribute to JRR Tolkien.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing, awe inspiring and the stuff of legends!
What can I say that hasn't already been said about Howard Shore's magnificent score for the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy?A soundtrack can define the whole atmosphere of a film, and this fully orchestrated work certainly does that with sweep, splendor and wonder, alternately humanizing (hobbit-izing?) the characters, imbuing the landscape with magic and capturing the world-shaking impact of events of mythic proportions. And this was no easy task considering the iconoclastic status of the story and the superb quality of Peter Jackson's filmmaking. This is a truly a soundtrack for the ages--a fitting accompaniment to a film for the ages!Every aspect of life, from the extreme to the mundane, is captured in this music.Listening to it can make every remembered moment of the movie come alive again in your mind, from the most horrific battle to the smallest moment of humor or kindness.I think "The Fellowship of the Ring" is my favorite of the three "Lord of the Rings" soundtracks.I enjoy the juxtaposition of the lighter moments, like the sweet, simple hobbit theme, with the grander and more menacing sections of the music. What impressed me most as I watched "The Fellowship of the Ring" was how scary the music was when the hobbits were being pursued. Those relentless drums and eerily screaming drums made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, even though I knew the story like the back of my hand and knew for a fact that the poor little heroes would manage to escape. But the music truly made me wonder otherwise ... Now that's good composition! And the fact that the filmmakers chose to include background music in so many of the scenes, almost continuously ... well, that's just good filmmaking! The other impressive thing about Howard Shore's score is how the voicing and the repeating musical motifs tie the whole thing together, like the finest of symphonies. In "The Two Towers" all the familiar themes from the first sound track return, reinvented as need be to link the films together while adapting to new developments in the action and the story. In this album, I particularly like the hardanger fiddle-infused theme for the Rohirrim, the Viking-like horse-riders of the steppes, and the ponderous, quirky music for Treebeard, the walking, talking tree.I would have enjoyed a bit more of these distinctive elements, which lend levity and diversity to a sometimes depressing and overwhelmingly intense body of music. Here, they make all-too-brief appearances, at least from a listener's point of view. But soundtracks are ultimately slaves to the script, and in conjunction with the film itself, the timing and phrasing of Shore's music is impeccable.Mysterious, menacing, folksy or heroic, the total effect is utterly convincing and utterly transporting. The battle scenes in "Return of the King" are incredible visuals, blending live action and computer-generated imagery so seamlessly and densely that it boggles the mind. But what would they be with only screams and snorts and scuffles to give them voice? It's Shore's frenetic, string-laden, brass-filled, drum-spurred fury that truly gives them life, waxing, waning and cueing the audience as to when the greatest menace is about to threaten the war-weary heroes. The musical themes from the first two movies continue to be developed here, wending their way in and out of expanded interpretations whose dense complexity rivals that of Tolkien's story, not to mention Peter Jackson's filmmaking itself.Jackson chose well when he picked Shore as his score writer.Very, very well!Make sure to get the extended edition DVDs of the movies themselves, with hours and hours of fascinating commentaries and behind-the-scenes documentaries about the making of the films.Truly a bargain at any price! For more seminal soundtracks, try John William's defining scores for the "Star Wars" series and Basil Poledouris's spectacular score for the original "Conan the Barbarian."You can hear more hardanger fiddle music (the inspiration for the Rohan/Rohirrim themes) in the work of Scandinavian fiddler Annbjorg Lien or any of the varied releases from the NorthSide label. Finally, for authentic music from bygone ages, why not try the real thing? There are many fine early music groups out there. Here's just a sampling: Anonymous 4 (pure-voiced sacred chant by four women), The Baltimore Consort (jaunty popular music from the Renaissance), David Munrow's Early Music Consort of London (simply perfection), Christian Mendoze's Musica Antiqua (lively, percussive Renaissance dance music), The Toronto Consort (great variety), Ensemble Unicorn (worlds of fun!), Wolgemut (brash buzzies and bagpipes with attitude), and the magical early/folk fusion of Cantiga and Burlap Lute.Have some fun with them and live your own fantasy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Four Seasons-Ozawa
The Four Seasons by Vivaldi always provides for 'easy listening'.Hearing it when conducted by Seiji Ozawa makes it even better.I have it on another CD which I now keep in the car, but the CD on which Ozaza conducts the BSO is the one I keep at my computer for near-daily listening.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best recording of "The Four Seasons" I have found yet.
I have not yet found a better recording of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" than this one by the Boston Symphony on the Telarc label. It is so clear and crisp and Joel Silverstein will move you with his violin.Highly recommended for any lover of Vivaldi!
