5-0 out of 5 stars No Clowns Here
Although the critics never really liked this one, I think it's one of the Doors most creative albums. They get very experimental here exploring different sounds and instruments and even throwing in a little bluegrass influence. This is why the critics didn't like it.
5-0 out of 5 stars By Heads for Heads
Let me be blunt, amongst the drug community this album is a classic!!!!There is some disagreement about this album in the "real" world, some people love it and some people loathe it.However, in the freak community, this album has always had always had a lot of credibility. The brass sections and string arrangements just add to the pallete that the Doors had to work with.Candy for the brain, enjoy!!!!This album has been a favorite of mine since I was in High School and I still listen to it regularly 20 some years later.A classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Under-rated!
This under-rated album is a must for anyone even considering buying it.The songs will grow on you after about 2 times listening to it... and then they will become your favorites---isn't that how all lasting art is? ... Read more

Editorial Review

Old rock bands never die--or even fade away, for that matter. The unlikely, 21st-century resurgence of the Who may have begun as a typical baby-boomer cash-in tour, but it also spurred the band's first new recordings in 20 years. When the tragic death of John Entwistle overshadowed both projects, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey stubbornly retrenched, forming what Townshend wryly called the Who's new "Everly Brothers format"; anyone aware of the historical tensions between Phil and Don couldn't miss the parallels with Roger and Pete's own long, turbulent relationship. Running the gamut from energetic early hits like "Happy Jack," "Magic Bus," and the now intensely ironic anthem "My Generation" to the briefest of highlights from their most fertile creative period (Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Then And Now - The BestWho Compilation
I will make this short and sweet.Everyone knows most of these songs. All I can say is that they are all the original versions and the sound quality was absolutely superb.Even the 60's songs, such as "I Can See For Miles", all sounded wonderful. For anyone looking for a nice mainstream compilation that has all of the most popular songs, this is the CD for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Who in top form.
This collection is pretty much aimed at the "casual fan" or the "newcomer." I am the latter; although having heard snippets of Who over the years, I had never owned an album, nor listened to them in depth at all. Although I had heard the advertisments et al. featuring their songs, I did not connect said tunes with the Who.
4-0 out of 5 stars Real Good Looking Band
Okay, I know this is another greatest hits package. And I understand that many Who fans (including myself) are getting sick of Pete Townshend making empty promises about a new album.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Queen's best
This album has something for everyone. Though every track isn't a gem, nothing is really bad.
5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect rock album
It doesn't get better than this. Queen were on fire in 1974, releasing 2 gems Queen2 and sheer heart attack.SHA finds queen in a more polished sound than the first two albums, but all three are very strong. This is a perfect rock album with lots of diversity, Hard rock: brighton rock, flick of the wrist, now I'm here and stone cold crazy, mixed with broadway rock like, leroy brown, killer queen, and lap of the gods makes this into a rock classic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stone Cold Solid
As an overall album, it has the most consistent feel of the Queen productions to which I've listened, possibly because most of the tracks don't reflect each other stylistically at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's hard, it's good, it's great
Reviews I had read of this album condemned it as trash. I personally favor any song on this album to "Squeeze Box" or "You Better, You Bet' from 'By Numbers' and 'Face Dances' respectively.
5-0 out of 5 stars Some pretty good songs with a couple of weaker ones from 1982
Well, this record came out in 1982 and rose to #8 on the charts.Rolling Stone gave it a rave review and I remember liking it very much.Roger Daltrey has been quoted as saying the album should never have been released, but I have no idea what he meant by that.I suspect that the change in musical fashion toward the Punk made this album seem old fashioned. However, I have always despised Punk and am still mystified why a foul mouthed psychotics bouncing around on the stage unable to play their instruments while raging about a life that has never cost them anything should be fashionable.Oh, right, their audience is also incompetent and never accomplished a thing either.Yeah, that's probably it.Daltrey was probably feeling a bit dated and intimidated. Not every song on this record is a gem, but a few are quite solid.
5-0 out of 5 stars If Moon can be a double deluxe edition .This will be a box set on reissue!
I still have my vinyl copy I brought when this came out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff Here, but the Two Disco Songs Suck
Right off the bat I should say I just cannot stand or stomach the opening song or the title song on this record. I just plain hate disco and I wish the Greatest Group on Earth would have left them on the cutting room floor. I know the songs help make this the first number one record the Stones had in a long time, but I don't care. It's like they sold out. I've ripped a CD for my car and left "Dance" and "Rescue" off it. I have this record on my iPod and again, no "Dance," no "Rescue." That said, I have to go on to say that I adore "Summer Romance" and I just can't get enough of "She's So Cold" and "Indian Girl." I just gotta jump and dance to "Where the Boys Go" and I swoon every time I hear Keith's voice on "All About You." Anyway, only four stars from me for this record because of those disco songs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ugh
Okay, so by now the Stones were about a decade past their prime, and it's kinda hard to believe that the same group who had recorded Sympathy for the Devil, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Moonlight Mile, Rocks off, Paint It Black, Satisfaction, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Honky Tonk Woman and a smorgasboard of others... were now putting out [...] such as Indian Girl, All About You, Dance (pt. 1), Send It to Me, Down in the Hole and Summer Romance. O.U.C.H. It's not completely useless, though. She's So Cold is a good rocker, even though it's lyrics are [...]. But that matters not, this album is useless and you should put it back in the bargain bin you most likely got it from.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hit and miss but the hits are great
Let me start by saying this isn't perfect sure but the singles save this album emotional rescue amazing dance part 1 almost ass good and she's so cold rivals satfication and later start me up. Other great ones is where the boys all go let me go and a great ballid from keith at the end. I like some girls better but really not by much both albums to me are like your parents trying to be hip with there punk and disco songs but unlike your parents they can sometimes pull it off. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars decent forgotten record
Here is why I love Amazon....because you get a mix of views....Is this the lost Stones gem?Sort of....its unique in the Stone catalogue....they have made sleazer records (Goats head soup where excess overwhelms them)...they made a record where they jammed for the sack of trying out Ron Wood (Black and Blue)....but this one is different and unique.....if you take it as a one of a kind in the catalogue then you can relax and enjoy it!They have some funky jungle beats.....not too bad on the 80's production (that would mark in my mind dirty work as there worst record to date). Perhaps it was the political climate in latin America in the Regan 80's or just the inter fighting starting to pull Mick and Keith apart....but this is a dark, bloody record with some killer grooves.I can't go through track by track because others have (and did a decent job here)....however do not ignore the second half of record as some of suggested...its great.A dark, sometimes bloody, with sex and sleaze through in for good measure, STones record........I like it.....no its not there greatest, its by no means their worst....its unique!Enjoy

4-0 out of 5 stars Undercover..........Underrated!
This is the first Stones album I ever owned. I got it for Christmas when I was 12. For these reasons I feel I can give an unbiased review of this record.
2-0 out of 5 stars Why?
I have to disagree with the folks who claim this is some underappreciated gem. I do agree, however, with the reviewer who claimed that this is the album that non-Stones fans might like. Does that sound like what you'd like to know about a Stones album; that it doesn't sound like one Stones fans would like? Regardless, he hits the nail on the head. This album is not very good. I love the Stones, and like a parent with their children, I have a hard time finding fault, but my God, this is really not good at all. One reviewer tries to rationalize support of this album with historical data, but if they can put out the much better Dirty Work in the midst of literally being at each other's throats, what excuse can they have for this poor effort?

3-0 out of 5 stars NOT AS BAD AS YOU WOULD THINK
THIS "TOMMY" SOUNDTRACK CD IS NOT REALLY ALL THAT BAD. I GIVE IT 3 STARS BECAUSE 2 SONGS ON THIS ARE BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL VERSIONS ARE: "SALLY SIMPSON" & "SENSATION". THEY G0T MORE OF AN "EDGE" TO THEM. ALSO, KEITH MOON SINGS "FIDDLE ABOUT" WHERE JOHN SINGS IT ON THE ORIGINAL. ALL IN ALL IF YOU ARE A WHO FAN, YOU SHOULD OWN IT. TAKE CARE.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Soundtrack Is Better Than The Movie
(Note: I do not own the soundtrack but I have seen the movie and have developed an opinion)
4-0 out of 5 stars At last...The Overture!
While the original concept album is far superior to some...ok, MANY of the performances on this soundtrack, the amazing music of the film version of The Who's "Tommy" is always worth reviewing. Mind you, nothing will ever surpass sitting in a rumbling cinema listening to this soundtrack in actual Quintaphonic Sound, but cranking the volume to "10" on the dial whilst jumping up and down might come close! (Ahhh, memories)! Most important, a great wrong has been righted by the placement of the originally missing "Overture" (once only available as the B-side of a 7" 45rpm single) in its rightful place at the beginning of this bombastic piece of work! Ken Russell (another bombastic piece of work) was in his glory on "Tommy" and so perfectly scripted was this film that you'll see every scene play out in your head as you follow Tommy's amazing journey while away from your TV screen. Ignore John Entwistle's machine gunning of his gold records for this soundtrack---blast it loud and proud, holiday-makers! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Wall Live
In general, studio albums sound better than live concert albums, and this is no exception. There are many reviews here that say this live version is better than the studio version of "The Wall."While this sounds excellent, and it is natural to be very enthusiastic about a live performance as great as this one, I strongly disagree that it makes for better listening than than the studio album.I would rather listen to "The Wall" anyday! However, this is a superb live concert recording and it is well worth having because the concert event for The Wall is legendary in rock annals, and, after all, this is Pink Floyd - and they sound great! It's very good to hear Roger Waters giving it his all, and David Gilmour's guitar solos on "Mother" and "Comfortably Numb" are the very stuff that rock guitar legends are made of.

5-0 out of 5 stars As great as it ever was
I just received and listened to this live disc of Floyd's "The Wall", and I still get the same feelings that I did in 1979 when the album first came out. And back in those days, I listened to it over and over and over...I even had an artist friend of mine re-create the album inside cover, complete with all the animation drawings, on my living room wall. I had turned it into a pool room/party room, and my friends and I had some incredible times in that room. Or so I've been told. Anyway, most of the people I read on this review page say exactly what I feel. Some bemoan the fact that there isn't a DVD of this concert. But back then, what did you do? If you were like me, I would "get my head right", turn off the lights, and then turn my stereo up just short of distortion, and let my imagination and Floyd do all the work for me. Yes, it was a dark and disturbing place that Roger took us all to, but I'm quite sure that we could all relate to it, especially if you were working on your own Wall, as I'm sure we all were, if you'll just think about it. Anyway, what I can't understand is the negative reviewers of this piece of rock mastery. What are you expecting? If you didn't like the album, or the movie, or anything else that Floyd did, why do you even bother listening to this in the first place???You either love Pink Floyd, or you don't, and that's it. There isn't much of an in between. Therefore, suffice it to say, if you are a lover of anything Floydian, you must have this in your collection. If you don't really care about Floyd, this is not going to sway you. But if you know someone that doesn't have an opinion, say a younger person, this isn't really what they need to be weaned on. A novice should be started on "Dark Side of the Moon", "Wish You Were Here", and "Animals". If they like that, then move on to the earlier stuff, then unleash "The Wall". And that my friends, is my humble opinion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!
This is an excellent CD collection!!!Can't stop listening to it.It is so nice to hear something other than the radio versions that play continuously.Qaulity is fabulous.Well worth the investmant. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Let Me Hear Ya!
This is The Rolling Stones' debut album and it's a good one at that.Consisting of mostly covers, this album takes you on a journey through blues and R&B that no other debut album ever could.
5-0 out of 5 stars Do You Think They Knew?
"Route 66," "I Just Want to Make Love to You," "Honest I Do," and the rest of the songs on this record show us the influence of the Blues on Rock and Roll. I have to admit that I came late to the Stones and haven't really paid much attention to the earlier stuff, till my friends and I decided to review their records. I spent a week with this record, "Out of Our Heads" and "Aftermath," playing them over and over again, so that I'd have a good understanding and appreciation of them when we got together to write our reviews. Wow, is all I can say. I appreciate them now, and I think I understand them, they are just plain down and out Rhythm and Blues records. Do you think they knew back then, when they heard this record for the first time that they were listening to what was going to become THE GREATEST GROUP ON EARTH, Really, do you think they knew?

5-0 out of 5 stars Nineteen Sixty Four All Over Again
It's hard to believe that this record was recorded in only five days, but I guess back then they didn't spend months in the studio trying to polish an album. Andrew Oldham and Eric Easton produced a masterpiece with this one and that's saying something, because this is the band's debut album. This is R & B at it's best. R & B from a group of white guys. I'd give anything, just anything if I could go back in time and see these guys perform Bobby Troup's "Route 66" live or Willie Dixon's "I just Want to Make Love to You," which happens to be my favorite song on this record. Of course, Chuck Berry's "Carol" which the Stones will do so well six years later on the Bootleg "Liver Than You'll Ever Be" is also a dynamite piece of music. Oh gosh, listening to this record is like being back in Nineteen Sixty Four All Over Again, well that's what my dad says, I hadn't been born yet. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful music statement
Deep Purple's In Rock is still magical after all these years. If you're a fan of hard rock, this album must be added to your CD collection. The re-mastered sound is a big improvement over the old Warner Brothers version. As one critic wrote: Heavy metal doesn't get much heavier or earlier than this. Perhaps this album is too heavy for the Classic Rock stations to play here in the States. It makes Led Zeppelin II sound tame by comparison.

5-0 out of 5 stars Queen in there prime
In 1975 Queen went into the studio and created one the finest CD's of all time titled "A Night at the Opera".A year later out came it's brother of sorts "A Day at the Races" and while it may not be as good as "A Night at the Opera" it is still a fantastic. Now onto the songs.
5-0 out of 5 stars underated and overlooked.
this album gets better and better with age. There was a time I thought ADATR was queens weakest 70's album, but I was clearly wrong. Now it's possibly my favorite queen album along with a night at the opera, queen2 and sheer heart attack. This is a must for any queen fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars I can dim the lights and sing you songs full of sad things.
This was the second Queen album in a row named after a Marx Brothers movie.I guess that would make Freddie Mercury "Groucho" (the mustached one), John Deacon "Harpo" (the silent one) and...oh, forget it.This album spawned only one hit song, "Somebody to Love", but it's still about as good as the other Queen albums from the same time period.Other good songs besides the hit include "Tie Your Mother Down", "You Take My Breath Away", "The Millionaire Waltz" and "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy".This CD includes useless remixes of "Tie Your Mother Down" and "Somebody to Love", which don't sound all that different from the "regular" versions of the songs. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Perfectionism, Shmerfectionism
I bought this not so much for the remastered CD but for the (I thought) DVD-Audio.And that for the stereo, not the 5.1 (since I don't have a surround system yet). However, it turns out the stereo DVD mix isn't "DVD-Audio".At least, the corresponding indicator LED doesn't light up on my playback deck. The packaging says it's 24-bit and the DTS logo indicates 96KHz but I suspect the sample rate is lower than 96.
3-0 out of 5 stars The apex of theatrical rock
Out of all the "theater rock" bands Queen is probably the best but should any self respecting man ever utter the phrase "Scaramouche, Scaramouche will you do the fandango?"Probably not.
5-0 out of 5 stars There is only one QUEEN
This by far is the place to start, if you want to appreciate the brilliance of Queen. As other generations are buying this just to get"Bohemian Rhapsody", those of us from other generations found a much smoother song in "The Prophets Song". 5-0 out of 5 stars I'm gonna tear my hair out just 4U!
Many, like me, read these reviews as a pastime. There are a few reviewers who must be more audiophilic than simply lovers of the Stones, or rock, or any particular group. In this particular case, since it is such a comprehensive and large box set--if you remember these were all singles, that's a LOT of vinyl replaced by 3 little discs--I am not going to be so particular.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Compilation
If you happen to be a huge Rolling Stones fan like myself, than I must say that "The London Years: The Singles Collection" will make a fantastic edition to your cd library. This solid mix of classic hits by Mick and the boys and hard to find rarities, it is a truly wortwhile purchase.
4-0 out of 5 stars Mono heaven, except ZERO seconds between songs!
I love this collection, because it brings back all those youthful memories. I'd also forgotten about all those great b-sides that we never hear much any more. But, my one big gripe, there are ZERO seconds between songs, why, what!!! With an album of "singles," how about a nice seven second gap between songs, giving the listener a chance to catch their breath. I don't remember flipping over or changing a record in ZERO seconds. It just seems rushed. Also, disc 3 wasn't as impressive as the first two. Perhaps the "singles collection" could have been done with two CD's rather than three. So, with that being said; no five stars!

4-0 out of 5 stars Rock and roll just pays the bills.
This album by Queen was released in 1978.Despite the album's title, it has no jazz influences on it whatsoever. It sounds like a typical Queen album. There are a number of classic Queen songs on it, like "Fat Bottomed Girls", "Bicycle Race" and "Don't Stop Me Now".There are some other good songs, and a few that aren't that good. The CD features a useless remix of "Fat Bottomed Girls", which sounds virtually identical to the original version, and a remix of "Bicyle Race", which actually does sound a lot different from the original version. Most Queen fans will enjoy this album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands down their best...
All the Queen I heard before this album was only mildly interesting. A little too operatic for my then-heavy-metal tastes. But with Jazz I finally got it. Every song is a gem. The whole album flows and was also featured largely on their excellent "Live Killers". Maybe it's sentimentality on my part, but I NEVER was into any other Queen album as much as this one. If you ever had any doubt about Queen's ability to 'jam', just listen to "Dead On Time". Lots of nostalgia with this one. In my top ten of all time.

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential for any Queen fan!
Definitely one of my favorite albums by Queen - it's got some true classics and some hidden treasures that I never tire of.My song-by-song overview:

4-0 out of 5 stars problematic, yes, but very well-produced, with piles of catchy songs
1989's "Steel Wheels" is a damn good Stones record. It blows my mind how harsh some of the fans are on it.
