5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Pink Floyd
When someone mentions Pink Floyd nowadays, all anyone thinks of is "Dark Side of the Moon" or "The Wall", and once in a while, "Wish You Were Here". Those are great albums, but there is one album missing from that group and that is "Meddle". I am 14 years old and have listened to many Pink Floyd albums but "Meddle" has to be one of my favorites. It kicks off with some wind effects before plunging into the bass-driven "One of These Days". I can definately say that "One of These Days" is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs. From the opening bass lines to Nick Mason growling "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces" and then the all out rocking end, this song stays strong the whole way through. Next comes "A Pillow of Winds", which is much softer then the opening track or almost anything else before it. It is very melodic and slow, but it's very good. Then we have "Fearless", which is an excellent accoustic song. It is more up-tempo then "A Pillow of Winds" but not nearly as up-tempo as "One of These Days", but all in all a good example of accoustic Floyd. After "Fearless" comes "San Tropez" which sort of has a blusey feel to it and is a great song. The blues theme continues with a slow, accoustic blusey song called "Seamus" which is pretty good, possibly the weakest song on the album, but that doesn't mean it's not good, it's just not as good as the excellent songs that come before it (on a 1 to 10 scale I'd give it a 7). Closing out the album is an experimental song called "Echoes". It runs at 23 minutes in length and took a whole album side upon "Meddle"s vinyl release. "Echoes" is a great experimental song and if you have the patience, I would reccomend giving it a listen.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Floyd Titles
Echoes is an epic worthy of everyone's consideration, yet many people don't even know it!I can't say much more other than that this is a classic and can be listened to many times over. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars La mejor introducción a la música de The Beatles
5-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Introduction to the Fab Four
Supervised by producer George Martin, this 1973 compilation introduced many second-generation fans to the timeless music of John, Paul, George and Ringo. "The Beatles: 1967-1970" covers most of the essential tracks from "Sgt. Pepper" through "Let It Be" -- along with hit singles not featured on the original LPs. Incidentally, the memorable cover photograph was intended for the group's aborted "Get Back" album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Early Beatles
'A Hard Day's Night' is not only a great rock album and great soundtrack, it is rightly regarded as the best of Beatlemania itself. There is enough of the familiar and hidden classics to make this puchase worthwhile.Certainly the title track, "Can't Buy Me Love," "And I Love Her," and "If I Fell" are worthy classics. ("If I Fell" is one of the best of the Beatles' love songs--maybe one of the best love songs period, for that matter.)Rock songs and ballads are masterfully made and mixed on this, their first album to contain all original compositions. The quality is consistent throughout. To paraphrase British writer Roy Carr, the second half is even more worthwhile."Any Time at All" is great hard rock; "I'll Cry Instead," is a fine country-rock song(foreshadowing the next 'Beatles for Sale' album) and the closer "I'll Be Back Again," is a classic Lennon ballad waiting to be unearthed. The second half also has a fine McCartney ballad, "Things We SaidToday". The exhuberant spirit never wanes on this CD and is extended with songs like "I'm Happy Just to Dance with You" and "I Should Have Known Better".Song for song, the mix, the quality, and energy are solid on this album. For those who only buy Beatles' collections, this C.D. will not seem redundant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good after 40+ Years
If you are a classic rock fan who has exhausted the Beatles' later catalogue and aren't sure if you like the early stuff as much, listen to this CD. It will convince you of how great the early Beatles were (something that people born after the 1960s might find harder to believe than those who were alive then). "I Should Have Known Better" was one of the first songs I tried to figure out on guitar. But I never bought the CD until much later. I purchased A Hard Day's Night to get closer to being a Beatles completist. I didn't expect it to be as good as it is. It's great. As Albert Goldman said, this was the closest that John came to making a solo record while he was with the Beatles. Paul's work is not nearly as strong, but George showed potential here as a songwriter. A Hard Day's Night is perhaps the Beatles' crispest and cleanest album. It rocks, has great harmonies, and crackles with the energy of guys on the top of the world. After listening to Pepper for the millionth time, you might need some good old rock and roll. A Hard Day's Night delivers that.

4-0 out of 5 stars You've got to love everything that they do!
The Beatles' 1964 album A Hard Day's Night not only is titled after a weird phrase once said by Ringo Starr, but it also symbolizes the fab four in their teenybopping, world conquering heyday long before the highly artistic and sophisticated efforts of Abbey Road, Sgt Pepper, and The White Album saw the light of day.

I love the Beatles and really enjoyed this album, already have the later one.I was hoping for a few other songs on it like happy birthday to ya, but anything Beatles is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Red Album and Blue Album..."The All-Star Team" for Beatle songs
I grew up with these compilations,my sister practically wore them out!! Later shortly after Lennon was murdered...I became a fan when I got Magical Mystery Tour and a cheap vee-jay knock off of 1962-1963 stuff("Love Me Do","Please,Please Me",ect;)..for Christmas 1980.....well I was always familiar with the Beatles hits ...but not familiar as much with stuff "that didn't make the red/blue album".....so I listened to and bought alot of the Capitol stuff such as Beatles 65,Rubber Soul,Yesterday and Today ,ect;.....Long story short....I became a fan....................The Red Album as well as The Blue Album feature songs that were #1's on the charts, standout songs from albums, and singles (which alot went to #1)....Why I compare it toan 'all-star team' is because it has it's snubs..........."If I Fell" "I'll Be Back" "I Should Have Known Better" are definately 'snubs'...."What You're Doing" from Beatles VI/Beatles for Sale was a 'snub'......No George Harrison songs made the Red Album..."If I Needed Someone" and "I Want To Tell You" could be 'snubs'..........I'm not counting 'cover songs' such as "Twist and Shout" ...I agree that they don't belong on THIS album .....My point is.. they all can't make it....No matter how worthy ...Great compilation to start with.

5-0 out of 5 stars Maravilloso, pero podría ser mejor

Editorial Review

Riff rock had been what Jimmy Page's former band, the Yardbirds, were all about, and on Led Zeppelin's second album, released, like its predecessor, in 1969, the inventive guitarist demonstrated that he'd indeed learned his lessons well. Witness "Whole Lotta Love," a woozy epic based on one simple, head-banging-friendly guitar riff. Or the mock-dramatic "Heartbreaker," propelled by far more intricate but similarly effective note squashing. Between Page's sonic wizardry, John Bonham beating his drums into submission ("Moby Dick"), and the juice running down Robert Plant's leg ("The Lemon Song"), Led Zeppelin here just about succeeded in raising rock & roll excess to an art form. 5-0 out of 5 stars Led Zeppelin's sophomore effort proves they were no fluke!
Led Zeppelin's second album Led Zeppelin II was released in October of 1969.
3-0 out of 5 stars Whole Lotta Riffs
Led Zep II is an innovative studio album with Page & Jones at the top of their studio wizardry. The album kicks off with the famous redundant Whole Lotta Love riff and continues through the over indulgent psycedelic bridge one is truly glad when this song ends. What is & What Should Never Be is definitely the album highlight with Zep firing on all cylinders. The bluesy Lemon Song and the poppy Thank You follows. The old war horse combo Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid keep the album rocking and Page seems like he has riffs to burn. From here the album cools off with Plant's Hobbit influenced wispy Ramble On. the lame space filler Moby Dick instumental follows. The album closes with another highlight "Bring it On Home" a rockin blues tribute. Although Zep's creativity showed this album the music sounds lifted like a Lenny Kravitz album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its a Classic
This album is one of the least talked about album but one of their most famous. With songs Like Whole Lotta Love and Heartbreaker its already worth buying but with other songs like moby dick and livin lovin maid (she's just a woman) it is an even better album.so do yourself a favor and buy this album. ... Editorial Review

As it turned out, Led Zeppelin's infamous 1969 debut album was indicative of the decade to come--one that, fittingly, this band helped define with its decadently exaggerated, bowdlerized blues-rock. In shrieker Robert Plant, ex-Yardbird Jimmy Page found a vocalist who could match his guitar pyrotechnics, and the band pounded out its music with swaggering ferocity and Richter-scale-worthy volume. Pumping up blues classics such as Otis Rush's "I Can't Quit You Baby" and Howlin' Wolf's "How Many More Times" into near-cartoon parodies, the band also hinted at things to come with the manic "Communication Breakdown" and the lumbering set stopper "Dazed and Confused." 5-0 out of 5 stars Heck of a debut
A blues album with intense sound! Zep really redefined Rock in the late 60's and set the standard in the 70's. This marking their debut could have not been any better or made more of an impact. Bonham beats the drums into near submission from the get go and the rest of the boys do their thing. A true treasure to any rock library.

Editorial Review

The band that proclaimed itself "The Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the World" has long since represented rock's most overarching confluence of art and commerce--with a distinct emphasis on the latter in recent decades--a notion this 40-track, five-decade-spanning anthology can't completely escape. While this is the first anthology to gather hits from the band's entire career, it's the early tunes that highlight one of the Stones' central ironies: virtually their entire "bad boy" reputation was built working for The Man. That original '60s musical arc bounded from '50s rock and R&B revivalism ("Not Fade Away," "The Last Time") to anti-Mop Top aggression ("Satisfaction," "Get Off My Cloud," "19th Nervous Breakdown") to proto-goth cynicism ("Paint It Black," "Have You Seen Your Mother Baby") and psychedelic minstrelsy ("She's a Rainbow," "Ruby Tuesday") to the epitome of blues-based cock rock ("Street Fighting Man," "Jumpin' Jack Flash") in quick succession. Wresting control of their own destinies--and future copyrights--at the end of the '60s, they'd spend the next 30 years largely recycling their earlier incarnation ad infinitum--their music sprinkled with occasionally successful forays into contemporary club and disco fodder ("Some Girls," "Shattered")--and resting on their well-paid laurels. Unfortunately, the listless quartet of new tracks that flesh out this collection seems little more than another business deal to hype their 2002-03 world tour, with "Don't Stop" arguably the weakest in a long string of post-'80s Stones McSingles. If Jagger seems typically detached here, Keith Richards injects some welcome, craggy warmth into the closing barroom lament, "Losing My Touch." But it's also a performance that suggests his legendary band has become little more to him than "The Greatest Day Job in the World." Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 'Forty Licks' Satisfies
'Forty Licks' isn't the best conceivable Stones' compilation, but it isn't just a commemorative anniversary celebration either. There is little to criticize for the first C.D.They don't mess around. They start with "Street Fighting Man," "Gimmie Shelter," and "Satisfaction" with enough confidence that they won't run out of great material.Good call. They do smart things. They kick out "As Tears Go By" and "Out of Time" which are dated period pieces and put in better songs like great early R&B favorites like "The Last Time," "It's All Over Now," and "Not Fade Away".Subjectively, I love sides one and four from 'More Hot Rocks' because I love their early songs like "Fortune Teller" and "Poison Ivy".Every sixties classic is represented.Who can do without "Get off My Cloud," "19th Nervous Breakdown," and "Paint It Black"?There's just so much fun.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's great but....
I really love this package. It has all of my fav. Stones tunes from ICGNS to SFTD to Wild Horses and so on. The second disk is less enjoyable, but better than anything. I wish they could've put "Saint of Me" instead of "Anybody Seen My Baby". The new songs are ok. But not terrible. This is worth every penny. To me, they strated going downhill in the 80s, but their music is way better than what's on MTV right now. Mick is the ultimate frontman. Every new rock band should take lessons from him, IMO. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Real Me
The Who dominated the 60s and 70s as one of the best groups around. This is no exception. The second rock opera is just a classic as classic can be. For what it was and when it was made this has to be up there as one of the most creative albums of all time. This is a must have for music fans. Just listen and be amazed. Classic Classic Classic. The Who is one of the best bands ever and this is a highlight with no holes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quadrophenia: The Who's Second Rock Opera
Unlike Tommy, Quadrophenia rocks more than being symphonic plus there is synthesizers to tingle in your ear. The angst in the music makes me relate to every track. So much music to listen to and appreciate!

While there's a lot of Tommy fanatics out there...and Who's Next is also at the top of most lists, for pure passion and just solid music, to me nothing beats this album. And believe me...growing up, I spent days on end with all the 60's-70's Who in my ears. Also check out youtube for some great stuff with Keith Moon!

"Sister Morphine," the heart of guitarist Mick Taylor's first full studio album with the Stones, doesn't get the airplay of "Brown Sugar" or "Wild Horses." But it's one of the most vivid, horrifying songs about drug abuse ever recorded--as Mick Jagger sings "from my hospital bed," the ringing guitars of Taylor and Keith Richards build to full catharsis behind him. On that and lighter songs like the countryish "Dead Flowers" and the rocker "Bitch," Charlie Watts establishes himself as rock's prototypical drummer. He's creative and propulsive and knows how to swing, but he never overwhelms the song or the other Stones. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars They dont make good music like this anymore!
When queen was in their prime, I was a young child. I do have memories of hearing some of their more popular songs on the radio. Under Pressure and Another one Bites The Dust for example, are songs I heard over and over again. Now that im a bit older, I appreciate this bands musical contributions even more. Most of the songs on disc 2 seem to be 80's trash. Their 70's material in my opinion is just light years better then their 80's stuff. Although I will say that I think "Who Wants To Live Forever" is an exception. I first heard this song while watching Highlander in 1985. That and "Under Pressure" are definitely the gems of disc 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'Cause it's Queen ...
OK, let's get this straight ... some younger fans tuned into Queen in the 80's and that's ok, but by then many original fans had tuned out and were busy making a living to keep up with all the trash that came out in that decade.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rediscover this historic band
I had been a casual Queen fan most of my life - well, ever since Wayne's World made Bohemian Rhapsody a hit. At the time, I got myself a copy of "A Night At The Opera," and have enjoyed it in the years since. (In fact, I recommend it as a companion to this greatest hits collection.)

5-0 out of 5 stars The second and best of The Rolling Stones' classic FOUR ALBUMS
The Rolling Stones released their 13th US release Let it Bleed in November of 1969.
2-0 out of 5 stars The album is brilliant - the advertising false
I do want to clarify that this review is not of the album Let it Bleed, which is one of the all time greats in rock history, but of the misrepresentation given by Universal Music Group about the release.
5-0 out of 5 stars Supreme Musical Accomplishment.
This is disputably the greatest Rolling Stones album ever released - heard now as it was intented.

Editorial Review

Less than a year after the release of CSN's groundbreaking debut, the group returned with Stephen Stills's former Buffalo Springfield cohort/rival Neil Young augmenting the threesome. The result is a less concentrated but more kinetic creation; Young swims through the celestial harmonies of rock's best barbershop trio like a fly in consommé. While somewhat dated ("Almost Cut My Hair"? Wait a while, David, it'll fall out), Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars enseña a tus hijos este disco.....

5-0 out of 5 stars I wore my LP version out back in the day...
Crosby, Stills, Nash (and Young) really reached the stars on their first two efforts. This was the second release. Everything here is more than good, rewards repeat play, and represents the late '60's and early '70's musical and cultural forces well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Melded their talents and egos to create a classic
Déjà vu is not a recording I listen to regularly anymore. But when I do play this album, I do listen. It's full of crisp details: the guitar strings vibrating, unexpected percussion, layers of vocal harmonies, the sudden energy of a wailing guitar. (And if you only own a CD version, it's worth finding a vinyl copy to appreciate the excellently crafted packaging and artwork.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but certainly not their best.
I too am mystified by all the hype about this being one of the greatest albums of all time. It's OK and it rocks in spots, but it sounds like it was recorded in a cheap mobile home with a 4-track tape recorder. I know, this is what some critics say makes it great. Why? If you listen to their earlier albums like 12 x 5, Out of Our Heads, Aftermath and Rolling Stones Now! (from 1964-66), you'll understand why I think Exile's sound is vastly inferior. These albums featured heavy R&B styles with a full rich sound recorded in L.A. and the old Chess Studios in Chicago. Sorry, I just don't get it. I first bought this album when it came out in '72, and remains one of the least played Stones album in my collection. Not counting Goats Head Soup etc. which have long been sent to the grooveyard. The tinny, shallow sound of Exile sounds like minor-league Stones to me. I give it four stars, because a minor league stones album is still better then most others. They were after all..All-Stars.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Stones Album, but overrated
This is one of those items in pop culture that has gained a reputation as something that is supposed to be fantastic. You are supposed to love it, to think it is one of the greatest albums of all time. It always amazes me that people buy into these things.
3-0 out of 5 stars A LITTLE OVERRATED
I bought this cd back in 1993 at the age of 16. I was already a huge fan of "Let It Bleed" , "Beggars Banquet" and "Sticky Fingers". I bought this cd because i belived the hype, plus i love double albums. This is the one time where i think this doudle album should have been shortened into a very good single albumn. Even now 13 years later, I listen to this cd and I feel the same way I did in 1993. Sometimes you listen to an album and it just dosen't click, then you listen to it years later and it clicks. That is not the case with "EXILE ON MAIN STREET". This album is just too long. The Beatles "WHITE ALBUM" is a long album as well, but it just works. "EXILE ON MAIN STREET" sounds like The Stones were trying too hard to make an album that sounded like "THE WHITE ALBUM", a little erratic with some backround noise on some songs, some songs very polished, some songs sounding a little un-finished. Just my take....you can disagree if you want.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent concept/rock opera
I am a major fan of The Who and have been since their debut lp in 1965....however....while this may be considered the first rock opera ....it is NOT the first rock concept album.
5-0 out of 5 stars The album that immortalized The Who forever and spawned the ROCK OPERA GENRE
The Who's fourth studio(and fifth overall) album Tommy was released in May of 1969.
5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, I think it's (more than) Alright!
The Who are one of the greatest rock bands of all time.If you want amazingly great classic rock and roll, buy every single Who album (along with the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Dylan).Townsend, Daltrey, Enwhistle, and Moon formed one of rock's greatest foursomes.Townsend's compositions could range from straight, pure, raw rock ("The Who sing My Generation") to complex and inspiring ("Tommy" and "Quadrophenia")."Tommy" is my favorite of the Who's work, followed closely by "Who's Next", "My Generation", and "Quadrophenia".
