5-0 out of 5 stars Tell It To The Devil
This is such a great MTB album. They were a great band and this really highlights how good they were. Even though there are only 7 tracks (a bonus track not counted) they were all great. Not a very long album but most of their albums were like this so there is no difference. I like all the songs here. Fly Like An Eagle is one of my favorites. MTB rocks so go get this album.

5-0 out of 5 stars MTB's Artistic Comeback Continues
The Marshall Tucker Band continue their artistic comeback (following the mediocre SEARCHIN' FOR A RAINBOW) with CAROLINA DREAMS. Most of the songs are great, and even with a few clunkers present, I would have no qualms about asking a pretty girl for a dance to this one, even if she wasn't part of the "in crowd." If you love the Allman Brothers Band, the Outlaws, or Lynyrd Skynyrd, you'll love this one.

3-0 out of 5 stars Commercial peak;artistic valley
This appears to be such a great album, with its handsome cover and clever title.I bought the Marshall Tucker albums back in seventies on LP's and always thought that Caroline Dreams was one of the best, until I really listened to it.Carefully listening to this one, and comparing it to others, it is one of Marshall Tucker's weaker efforts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fogerty's best post CCR work
For me it comes down to two American bands:The Ramones and CCR.They are our Beatles and The Stones. They're both deeply steeped in Americana and they both sound unmistakeably American. But where the Ramones chose to amp up the 50's, John Fogarty always chanelled old blues and country music and his love of the latter is nowhere more obvious than on this CD.
5-0 out of 5 stars great country music from California's swamp king
Fogarty's solo debut(Originally released without his name attached) finds him in excellent voice that is a perfect match to the material he has chosen. Supposedly it is a totally solo effort with Fogarty ovedubbing all the instruments and back up vocals, which makes the results even more amazing. It drips with authenticity and enjoyment. A great album.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fogerty back to his blugrass roots with bravura.
This is simpel, straightforward, bluegrass at his best so to speak. Nothing much goes wrong on this CD. Today it`s sound very fresh and ooozes with quality in every department. Track 1 Blue ridge mouintain blues set`s the standard, with it`s rythmic swing with enough musical yiaah to make the day. Track 2 Somewhere listening[for my name]is more in the gospel tradition, but it works very well. Not so much tempo, but the soooooul is there, and Fogerty voice is great to listen too. Track 3 You`re the reason is more in the "jooodelio" country type of music. It`s simpel and stripped to the bone. Track 4 Jambalaya is the Hank Williams classic, but the Fogerty version swings like hell. Track 5 She thinks i still care, is back to more traditional country. To much cliched are baked in on this track. A minor let down. Track 6 California Blues (Blue Jodel #4) is a Jimmy Rodgers classic, that Fogerty does as his own. A great listen. Simpel and effective. Track 7 Workin on a building sounds like a mish mash between a negro spiritual and country, and when it goes up in tempo it swings like h...!. Track 8 Please help me falling is back in the more traditional type of country, A so so country, but Fogerty voice saves it.

1-0 out of 5 stars I am being gererous giving this one star!!
What you have here it the single most worst cd ever made.5-0 out of 5 stars Gimmicky, but good, better than one might have expected
Obviously one can tell right from the start that this is nothing more than a marketing ploy.Hank, Jr. fans will get exposure to III, Hank, Sr. fans will get exposure to not only Hank III, but they will also learn that Jr. has calmed down and became the quintessential country legend that George Jones has became down through the years. But, if nothing else, fans of each diverse artist will want this, so it's almost a guaranteed sale!Read more

Editorial Review

After years of playing with the Allman Brothers Band, guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody left the ensemble to focus on Gov't Mule. On their third album, Gov't Mule broaden their direction and expand the sonic possibilities of a power trio. Echoing threesomes like the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream, Gov't Mule play modern blues-rock with exuberance and style. Haynes's proficiency on the guitar allows for exploration in a variety of musical idioms. He plays with fiery precision and his soulful voice is gruff and expressive. Besides original material, the band covers the country-blues classic "John the Revelator," written by Son House, and rework The Beatles' "She Said She Said." Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GOV'T MULE'S BEST....
WITH THIS THEIR SECOND STUDIO RELEASE, GOV'T MULE TAKES IT'S HEAVY BLUES ROCK TO A NEW LEVEL. WHILE MULE'S FIRST RELEASE HAD A LIVE FEEL TO IT, THIS ONE IS MORE OF A STUDIO ALBUM THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO TAKE CHANCES WITH. GREAT SONGS AND GREAT PLAYERS. WARREN HAYNES, ALLEN WOODY AND MATT ABTS ARE IN TOP FORM ON THIS ALBUM. IF YOU WANT GREAT BLUES ROCK WITH TOP NOTCH PLAYING, THIS IS THE CD TO GET.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Three Piece Jam Band!
I enjoyed this jam band Gov't Mule, with their third album under way they split the airway for pre-existing three piece bands such as The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Cream. This is a blues rock jam band that really symbolizes good music, which is really live music in the studio. All of the songs carry on to some extent from the beggining notes to Blind Man in the Dark, to I Shall Return this is considered to be one of the least favorite Gov't Mule albums. This is the first Gov't Mule album I bought so I was not sure what to expect but from what I heard I believe this deserves 4 stars none more none the less. If you really want to dig deep into the band Gov't Mule check out their entire catalog and then you can be the judge on the band since im not the most experienced on this band!

1-0 out of 5 stars A Yawn and a Shaking of the Head
This is one of the most bland and boring blues/rock CDs I have ever heard. There's nothing here that hasn't been done better by a hundred other bands. Power trio? You've got to be kidding! There are way too many holes in the music. I was playing music by Cream, Hendrix, and Mountain back in 1970. I know what a power trio is. I just don't understand the fascination with this CD or this band. Pass this one by. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow..!! Finally Found One Of The Best Lps I Ever Had..!!
Many years ago, i had this on LP on Capricorn Records, and over the years it disappeared. I have been looking for this recording in hopes that this GREAT performance would Finally come to cd format, and it has..!!! Without a doubt, one of the finest live shows ive heard...Not only is this Just about Elvin Bishop, but his stellar first class band as well..Mickey Thomas (from the Jefferson Airplane) vocals simply soar with Elvin's guitar work. The rest of the band, are ALL top notch studio players. Buy this, and you will NOT be disappointed...Elvin was just nominated again for the 2006 Blues Music Awards (formerly known as the W.C. Handy ) for best album...Funny that we still call cds albums, and lps...but that was the category in which he was listed. Get Elvin Bishop's "Raisin Hell..Live" You'll be glad you did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Southern Rock at its best!
This album is the best of all Elvin's stuff, and the live versions are so much better than the studio recordings that you really can't compare them. This is especially true for "Fooled around, fell in love". If you're a Bishop fan, this is a must!

4-0 out of 5 stars sure feels good, feeling good again

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Album from an underrated Group........
You get all the hits here. 'Jesus and Mama', 'When You Leave This Way' and of course their signature song:"Trashy Women". But Confederate Railroad was a much underappreciated group. They had such great songs and versatlity. They could be smooth as molasses on the slow ones and then a rockin' honky tonk bar band on others. This CD showcases their best work from their pinnacle of success in the early 90s when Country music reached its zenith it has since yet to reach again.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Group's Best CD.
This Is Their Best CD Containing Their Best Hits From 1992-1996. The SongsI Like On This CD Are: "Queen Of Memphis", "Jesus AndMama", The Dancy Tune "Trashy Women", "Daddy Never WasThe Cadilac Kind", And "Elvis And Andy". This Is A Must BuyFor Any Fan That Likes "Trashy Women".

5-0 out of 5 stars The Headhunters Are Friends Of Mine!
I've partied with these boys and trust me.. the behind the scenes is so much more fun than the album versions of these songs.Nothing's better than hanging with the boys at the old practice house and getting down.
5-0 out of 5 stars kentucky headhunters - still pickin' cd
The cd came in timely fashion and was packaged accordingly.Great cd - I enjoy listening to it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Different Flavor of Country
If you want to take a break from traditional country music, here's your chance. There is nothing mild about the music these guys put out, but it is good clean fun at a higher decibel! These are pretty much cover songs of some great classics, to include their signature "Walk Softly On This Heart of Mind" and "Oh, Lonesome Me".There are also some stinkers here as well, such as "Let's Work Together" and "Spirit in The Sky"....They really dont sound much different than their original releases a decade earlier.Personally, I feel the band died after the Brothers Phelps left the group as they were the real talent, and their "solo/duet" project was actually quite good. While I can say that I'm glad Country Music did not go down the same road as the Kentucky Headhunters, it is refreshing to see these guys have fun with adding a little electricity and noise to some old standards.B- ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Respectable but uneven comeback
Little Feat's Let It Roll album was their first new studio release in 9 years and the first since their leader Lowell George passed away in 1979. Many longtime fans to this day feel that George was the heart and soul of the band, similar to Jerry Garcia's role with the Grateful Dead, and that the band should not have reunited under the Little Feat name. While this question will always be debatable, the band has recorded some strong music since their reunion and remain an impressive live act.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best CD ever
One of the best CD's I've ever heard put together, there are no weak songs and every cut seems to work with it's predecessor and successor. If you could have only 1 CD to drive across country - this is the one you should have.5-0 out of 5 stars Little Feat at their best !
In my opinion "Let It Roll" is one of the most under-rated albums to be released in the last 20 years. You will hear some of most catchy and funky tunes on this CD, and also some of the most beautifully layered ballads. Getting Craig Fuller (ex-Pure Prairie League) to join this band as lead vocalist was a miracle in itself. NOBODY......and I mean NOBODY could have come anywhere close to filling Lowell George's vocal spot like this guy. I have been listening to this album ever since it came out and it just keeps on gettin better. It's one of my all-time top 5 CDs. Get it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's not Skynyrd but it is a nice effort
I'm not giving these guys any points for what they went through after the plane crash but the two albums in the package have high quality songs and performances.
3-0 out of 5 stars This is not your fathers Lynyrd Skynyrd
I purchased this CD because I am a big Skynyrd fan.Thinking that a big part of LZ (Collins and Rossington) were here I took the chance (having not neard their stuff).Well, it ain't Skynyrd; more like CCR.Those unique, imaginative and powerful guitar licks we got used to with LZ just aren't there. And of course we don't have that southern soul voice of Ronnie's.Dale Krantz is not bad but just doesn't have the feel, sings every song the same way.Not a bad CD, just not Skynyrd; I guess that died in the plane crash too.

5-0 out of 5 stars As Good/Better than Skynyrd?!
Yes, that's what I said. It's as good, maybe better. Dale Krantz (Rossington), has the pipes that were taking the rock world by storm, the next "Janis Joplin", many reporters exlaimed! Well, Allen's wife died during childbirth, and thus ended this band in yet another tragedy... But, don't miss these two great albums! They show Rossington and Collins at their finest! Workin hard! And, Dale Krantz has all the gritz required to be "front Woman". It's just a shame, that the new Skynyrd doesn't cover any of these tunes in concert, and just has Dale, as a backup singer....

5-0 out of 5 stars Rocks today just like it did in the 90's
I grew up on this disc. There are albums out there that when you listen to them they take you back. This is it for me.Virtually the whole album is significant. The Innocent and Fly Me Courageous are just about as good as it gets.If you have never heard Drivin' n Cryin', do yourself a favor and at least listen.Great stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Mainstream" Rock from dnc
dnc's label, Island, pushed Kevn Kinney, et al toward mainstream hard rock with this release, hoping to get a band that would both rock and possess universal appeal through superior, socially-conscioussongwriting (like Midnight Oil or late-80s rem). The result is the band's best-selling record, _Fly Me Courageous_.The increased contribution of hard rock guitarist Buren Fowler and the paring down of the softer side of dnc's personality led to a solid rock record which featured memorable, melodic riffsand rock radio tunes such as the title song, "Build a Fire," and "The Innocent."The country-fied "For You" balances the bombast, as does the Petty-esque "Let's Go Dancing," but mostly the band goes for the "Rockin' in the Free World" approach.Producer Geoff Workman (whose credits include Motley Crue) adds considerable polish to the band's sound, but while it almost put them over the top, the record is not quite as unique as their previous two efforts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great rock record!
This is how rock records should sound - fresh! Listening even today there's no sign of cliches or recycled ideas. It's a great sound - a twinge of the south and a crunch of arena rock blended together. ... Read more

I REALLY LIKED THE MUSIC BUT THERE IS ONE SONG I WANTED TO LISTEN TO BUT I COULDNT WHITCH WAS ROCKY BY AUSTIN ROBERTS,AS I WANTED TO KNOW IF IT WAS THE SAME SONG I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR,FOR AGES. THANK YOU SHAYLE

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice blend
How tacky are some of these songs?Well, I can remember hearing these songs being played at SEARS while shopping for clothes (no choice in those days. I lived in the suburbs and didn't yet have a car). The direct memories of denim jackets with sequins, and shorty tops - with sequins, fill me with shivers both warm (memories) and cold (fashion hell), as I listen to these songs. But not all of 'em are tacky. There are a couple of juicy goodies that actually broke the ground of riskless AM radio."You Sexy Thing" was a hot crossover tune that got white people dancing (one could even say it was one of the first preludes to disco), and that title garnished many a sequined shorty top. Even many a pair of ..... (the seventies were SO fabulously sleazy!). And "Eighteen With A Bullet", despite it's slight '50sish Frankie Lymon feel, had a tight euphoric bite to it, which was a fresh charge in let's face it, what was a pretty stale, generic musical wasteland by the mid-seventies.Even Bay City Roller-mania was a delightful change, despite the fact that their fans all looked like Catholic school rejects (I guess that's where they got all that plaid).Come to think of it, maybe sequined shorty tops weren't so bad after all!Have fun - 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Songs and Great Memories!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellence
I first bought this as an LP sometime around 1981 (I got hooked on Hank, Jr after Family Tradition came out). I was thrilled to find it released on CD. "I Really Did", "Montana Song", "Brothers of the Road", and "Can't You See" really stand out but ALL of the cuts are superb IMHO. This album is a great complement to the "New South" album (which all Hank, Jr fans should own!). ...just wished the CD had the original album artwork - kinda wild to see Hank, Jr sans beard!

5-0 out of 5 stars The "old" song writing HankJr.
It was great to hear the old song writing Hank Jr. is back. This CD is of some his older songs, but they are just as good if not better than his new stuff. I am thinking this album came out in 1975 or so.The song Clovis, New Mexico is the best song on the CD as well and I wish we would hear more stuff like this on the radio today. This is a must have if you enjoy the Hank Williams Jr. of old.

5-0 out of 5 stars the groundbreaking release of Bocephus
This new reissue of Hank Williams Jr. & Friends is well done for abudget product. There is hiss on some of the songs, but it is slight, butnow that it is finally on CD, I'm happy this landmark album from 1975 isout there. If you have the "Living Proof" boxed set, you don'tneed this reissue as all 9 songs on this album are on the boxed set, but ifyou are on a budget and haven't experienced this album yet, you must getthis CD of an album originally released in 1975, when he was 26 years old. Although the hits on MGM from this period were not doing as well as theearlier MGM hits, this is his first mature album which the"friends" on the album being the southern rock stars CharlieDaniels, Toy Caldwell (Marshall Tucker Band), and Chuck Leavell (AllmanBrothers Band) who contribute lots of the instrumentation on the album. This is also the album that laid the groundwork of his hits during the late1970's-early 1990's that were yet to come, so if you are a Bocephus fan, this is a must listen to.Enjoy listening to Bocephus at his peak. ... Editorial Review

Popular but not hip, basic but not shallow, rooted but not retro, Creedence Clearwater Revival distinguished themselves in the late 1960s and early 1970s through these contradictions. This six-disc set is the definitive Creedence collection, offering superbly remastered versions of all of their studio and live albums and adding a disc's worth of pre-Creedence material. The ultimate blue-collar rock band, John Fogerty and CCR found success by wholly giving in to their fascination with the American South (despite hailing from Northern California) and exploring the turf that connected R&B and country--the same turf that their heroes at Sun studios tilled at rock's birth. As the songs on the first disc prove, they hadn't always taken this approach though perhaps they should have: The first four songs from 1961 (by Tommy Fogerty and the Blue Velvets), original compositions in the classic '50s rock & roll style they loved, hold up better than subsequent Golliwogs tracks that attempt to replicate the British Invasion sound in vogue at the time. Still, the Golliwogs tracks offer hints of John Fogerty's menacing growl and biting guitar that would fully blossom later on. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome collection
I didn't buy this collection but got it free at piratebay.org by downloading the torrent there, and all 6 CDs ripped in 256 kpbs MP3. Some generous fellow is sharing it there. Just search "clearwater revival box set" on the main page.
5-0 out of 5 stars The most quintessential and definitive box set of the best short lived band
The Creedence Clearwater Revival box set is very much a mammoth enterprise in its own right. Containing all seven original albums and two live albums, not to mention a whole disc full of material from their stints as Tommy Fogerty & The Blue Velvets and The Golliwogs, this is very much a unique offer.
3-0 out of 5 stars Love the completeness but disappointed in sound quality.
It's great to have all the CCR studio albums, and some of the more obscure stuff all in one package.

4-0 out of 5 stars Kick-Ass Rock & Roll!
Thank you BOA for releasing this on CD! Like an earlier reviewer, I too saw them on "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" back in the day and ran out to buy this album. This is everything a live rock & roll record should be. You can almost feel the energy emitting from this this live collection. Tommy A. was simply on fire behind the kit during these shows! The only reason I gave the CD 4 stars instead of 5 is because of it's length. I agree with another reviewer that they really should have added some tracks. Atlantic Records (this was originally released on their Atco label) MUST have some additional live cuts collecting dust in a vault from this tour. I own a lot of well done live albums from the 70's, but this one absolutely smokes from start to finish!

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST LIVE ALBUM EVER!!!
I was lucky enough to see these guys live twice in the early '70's and once in the mid 80's. Always raw, always wild and lots of fun! Jim Dandy Mangrum's antics on stage always a blast to watch. This release comes as close as possible to the energy of being there. Every song on here blows the studio versions out of the water! Southern hills party rock at it's best. HOT AND NASTY never sounded so good, WHEN ELECTRICITY CAME TO ARKANSAS, and HOT ROD are true gems. I've heard THE ALLMAN BROTHERS, LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST, hailed many times as the best live album ever made, but for power, energy, and pure kick ass fun, I believe this one leaves the ALLMAN's offering far behind in the dust. And that is not meant as an insult to the ALLMAN BROTHERS, I have the afore mentioned album on c.d., and enjoy it. It just doesn't live up to this one. The only flaw with this c.d. is that it comes in at only a little over 33 minutes. Short by today's c.d. standards. But then again, I'm not sure adding filler and fluff would have really been an improvement to an already great performance.
5-0 out of 5 stars Follow me and find - your way back through time!
"If you believe..." OK, I'll admit it, there was a time back when I was but a wee kid, that my idea of rock and roll was stuff like "Down By The Lazy River" by the Osmond Brothers. Then, late one night, a miracle happened!I saw Black Oak Arkansas on one of the old Don Kirshner or Midnight Special concert programs and it changed my life. And yes, 30 some odd (!) years later I still say that was for the good.

Editorial Review

Widespread Panic is one of the most prominent bands of the ever-growing pool of young southerners whose sound recalls the Allman Brothers and Marshall Tucker bands. With its six-minute songs, Widespread Panic are in no hurry to get their point across. This sophomore release focusesmore on interplay between the players and less on traditional song structure than its predecessor, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bring It On Home
...LOVE this album. This is one of those in your collection you just keep coming back to over - and over - and over. Eight years after first listening to this it still reeks of Athens, GA sentimentality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes Sense To Buy
I bought this album out of the bargain bins back in 91, basically because I thought there name was cool, and it was quite a nice surprise. Panic are a jam band similar to Blues Traveler, The Spin Doctors or Phish, the foursome have taken up the torch from the Almonds and The Dead. Although Panic are not the most famous or successful of the new jam bands they are actually quite good. This eponymous album is their best, including their single best track, the sharp, forceful `Makes Sense To Me', also worthy of note are `Walkin (For Your Love)', `Send your Mind' and `Pigeons'.The band, in spite of its obsessions, makes good hooky rock, and write some fine insightful lyrics. The excessive jamming is kept to a minimum here, making the album accessible to newbies, as well as a treat for fans. Highly recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars Where is that John Fogerty Sound?
John Fogerty trys to sound like everybody else on this album with mixed results. Only when he falls back upon the sound we love for then does he shine.

I am a huge fan of John Fogerty's solo music and his music with CCR. If you enjoy his roots-rock style then I strongly recommend that you check out the following:

4-0 out of 5 stars Caution! "Legs" & "Heat of the Moment" Shortened
Strong overall song selection however....some songs are noticeably shortened. At a minimum, both "Legs" (ZZ Top) and Asia's "Heat of the Moment" had about the last 30 seconds sliced off.

5-0 out of 5 stars First real rock n roll compilation in the "70's" list!
Now this is a find...a real rock n roll assortment of hit tracks by the now classic artists we grew up with. This is a mighty meaty blend...if you ignore the "Sister Golden Hair" track by America. That band lost it after their first album, as have a number of would be rockers. Remember the Chicago Transit Authority?
5-0 out of 5 stars A great classic rock CD

5-0 out of 5 stars When I was just a little boy ...
When I was just a little boy ... I smashed a bookcase with a broomstick playing "Born On The Bayou" on the air guitar. And still, 35 years later, I still get very excited when hearing the intro of that song. "Born On The Bayou" is by far the best song on this album (much better than "Proud Mary" for instance), any album with this song on it deserves 5 stars. "Bootleg", "Graveyard Train" and "Keep On Chooglin'" are too long and a bit boring, the other songs are of solid Creedence Quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars check this out too
