5-0 out of 5 stars Better "The Second Time Around"
My friend recommended this album to me about three years back. I wasn't totally oblivious of this group, I had heard of "Summertime Blues" but then again, even my grandma has heard of that one. So I got the CD in prompt fashion (thanks, amazon) and put it in the 'ol player..."What the $#@&*?"
2-0 out of 5 stars really surprised by the praise of all fans
This review will not endear me to the fans of Blue Cheer, I know - but I would like to enter a different perspective on this record. I've had it (in lp format) for a long time, but never really liked it much. The recording itself is not well produced (it sounds rather muddy) and I don't think the playing itself is that great to start with. A famous song like "Summertime blues" is, while competently performed, not in any way revolutionary or remarkable, and Blue Cheer's own songs aren't really memorable either: "Doctor please" for example is a kind of blues workout that does not stick in the mind as it should.
5-0 out of 5 stars Blue Cheer
A few months back, I was up late checking out some music on the internet when I stumbled upon Blue Cheer. I remembered a few of their tunes from years back, but I had to listen again. WOW, I listened to one after the other. I was blown away! Back to current time. I read in the paper that Blue Cheer is coming to Cleveland, June 5 at the Beachland Ballroom. So I take my teenage kids and a few of their friends and go. I have to say, it was one of the best rock concerts I have ever been to, these guys rocked the house!

5-0 out of 5 stars Was at the show and the DVD is a good reproduction
While nothing will ever come close to the experience of being there, the DVD did a pretty good job of capturing the moment. As snap shot in history, the summer of 1990. The Belin wall had just come down the previous November. On July 1st, for the first time since the wall went up, East and West Belin could freely cross the "Wall", Check Point Charlie was out of a job. This concert took place in Potsdam Platz, only months earlier, this was no man's land. You could be shot for being there. On this night in July, the world was finally at peace (Iraq would invade Kuwait two weeks later), I was standing in a crowd with Germans, English, French and countless other nationalities. We were all there taking in one of he greatest stages ever contructed for a concert. Roger Waters did it proud, to compare it to Pink Floyd's the Wall conerts (which I saw in Nassua Colisium in 1979) would be unfair. This concert was more than just the music and show, it was about a time in history. "Tear Down The Wall!!" it was already coming down. To watch the DVD, brings these memories streaming back and in these troubled times, is comforting to know that at one time peace was achieved.

2-0 out of 5 stars A miss version of The Wall without Pink Floyd
Roger Waters' The Wall in Berlin was released in September of 1990.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's Not Pink Floyd But It's The Next Best Thing
Not having been a big Roger Waters fan, this DVD changed my whole attitude and opinion of Roger Waters. This DVD/CD may not be Pink Floyd, but it sure is the next best thing.I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD.I had viewed Roger Waters as a whining, moaning, groaning, and complaining child who just wanted to have something to cry about. After seeing this DVD, that all changed. He was so cool, calm, and collected in this DVD and so relaxed.I was impressed with the way he shared the spotlight with other musicians and didn't cop an attitude by self-centeredness, selfishness, and egotism.I think he had the idea of performing this version of The Wall the same way Pink Floyd did the live version of The Wall.It was superbly done. All the musicians were superb especially Cyndi Lauper and Bryan Adams. You can always tell Cyndi even if you don't hear her because of her eccentricities. If you're not a Roger Waters fan or if you have doubts about him, check out The Wall: Live In Berlin and his other live album In The Flesh.I can guarantee you will have a change of heart. My friend gave me a copy of this DVD and after seeing it, I was totally blown away by the performance and came away with a different attitude toward Roger Waters.I was so impressed with this DVD/CD and the In The Flesh DVD I had to order the CDs.I do not regret it for a minute.I would highly recommend both these albums for any Pink Floyd or Roger Waters fan.You won't regret it!

Editorial Review

Even one of the most misguided marketing campaigns in history couldn't obscure the sheer brilliance of this San Francisco-based quintet's self-titled 1967 debut. Guitarist Skip Spence was the original Jefferson Airplane's drummer, and lead guitarists Peter Lewis and Jerry Miller, bassist Bob Mosley, and drummer Don Stevenson were seasoned garage-band veterans. Everybody sang, everybody wrote songs, and their musical influences were equally diverse. They favored tight compositions and performances in an era when most groups didn't, so naturally they were the subject of a huge bidding war. To celebrate its triumph, the record label released five singles--and the album--simultaneously. People cried "hype" and not one of 'em hit. The album, however, was a solid seller and remains the rock upon which the group's reputation still rests. The slashing guitars and soaring harmonies of "Omaha" and "Hey Grandma" still snap, crackle, and pop! The sock-it-to-ya soul of "Changes" and the dueling guitars and vocals of "Indifference" still rock. The gentle folk ballad "Fall on You," the delicate "Sitting by the Window," and the country-flavored "8:05" are all strong songs, distinguished by their balance of four-part harmonies and three-guitar power. 5-0 out of 5 stars When old is new
Bought this one a couple weeks ago and it sounded as good as the first time I heard it in 196X.This thing sizzles!Get it, you'll like it.I was surprised to recently read that Skip Spence became homeless in San Jose, CA and died a bum.The world is less one great musician.

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best bands of the 60's
This album represents all that is right with Rock music. 5 talented musicians who can all write , sing and play exceptionally. Someone who is not moved by Bob Mosley singing from the depths of his soul (and his lungs) is a mystery to me. The interplay and integral parts of the three guitars is still unmatched even today. And Skip Spence captured, for any one who was willing to watch or listen to him, what Rock music is all about. Free spirited expression and laying it all on the line for all to see.

3-0 out of 5 stars Now I Remember!
I guess I was always fascinated with Moby Grape, mainly because of all the hype at the time. I heard this album in 67 and it was well produced and had great musicianship, but it just didn't do anything for me. Later, in a moment of weakness, I picked up the Wow! Grape Jam set and what a mess! Yet, I still remember Murder In My Heart For The Judge.

5-0 out of 5 stars musica grandiosa respirando en un utero purpura .....

5-0 out of 5 stars the late great jimi hendrix
you are a timeless legend jimi!!! you are the god of the electric guitar!!! and furthermore you will always rock!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for any hardcore Hendrix fan
I bought this box set not knowing what I was going to experience. I've been a Hendrix fan since my early teens and now that I'm nearly twenty my musical tastes are changing. Starting to turn my back on all the new age rock and going back to the classics. You get your moneys worth with this set. Pop in the four discs and get ready to go on a inner stellar ride. You get four hours of music to enjoy. THe live songs are my favs. Most of them I've never heard along with the demo's. If your into blues Jimi more than takes care of you blues fans with "Hear my Train a Comin,Red House and a few more I believe. He plays the blues just as good as that good old rock and roll. The box set has a 80 full color page book that is ontop of the CD cases. The read on this thing is intresting. I would say it is similar to the one that accompanies the Doors '97 box set. If your a hard core fan and don't own this you'll be glad when you purchase this. Newbies get the greatist hits and see what you think. This box was also released in VINYL for those of you with those good old record players. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest debuts in history, and one of my favorite albums...
This is a superb album.Whoever would have thought that an album of all covers would be so successful, artistically and financially?Vanilla Fudge's biggest hit, You Keep Me Hangin' On, is far superior to the original version. It's an epic cover, running 7 1/2 minutes.Elenaor Rigby and Ticket to Ride are fantastic too. These songs are not straight forward covers. The Fudge took them and changed them drastically, but in an original and dramatic way, which is why they work so well.Their playing is incredibly intense as well.I always thought Vanilla Fudge could have been an American Pink Floyd, with their spooky, epic sound, but after this album, they put out a horrible "experimental" album called The Beat Goes On.They did release 3 more albums (which were excellent), but the "beat" album really screwed up their career. This is their best one.Play it loud and often...
5-0 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC
This is a great album with alternative versions of songs on it!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great, like the Edsel!
How do you rate an album like this? It is what it is, a classic. Listening to it now, it sounds totally over the top and sadly, out dated...but at the time, this was what it was all about! I remember I was 19 anddoing the light show (remember light shows?)in 1968 for a knock off band that did all of these Fudge songs and a couple Hendrix and Doors songs...They were quite good, I think--much of their great sound, I'm sure could be attributed to what I was on! But the Fudge and psychedelic light shows were made for each other! It was 'the scene'! This album is probably extremely hard for youngers to get into...this wasat the beginning of feedback, fuzz boxes, black lights, dayglo body paints, hooka pipes, paisley, bell bottoms, etc...dig? It was far out, man. But like the Edsel, the Fudge got old fast, but still, like the Edsel, they were special, one of a kind. I have to give this album 5 stars...they hold a special place in history, just like the Edsel.Truly a collectors item...honestly, an original decent Vanilla Fudge vinyl album cover can bring a pretty good buck these days....just like a nicely restored Edsel, very collectable. ... Editorial Review

Jimi Hendrix wasn't the only black musician making inspired psychedelic rock in 1967. Memphis-born, L.A.-bred Arthur Lee combined his flair for Technicolor R&B with Bryan MacLean's talent for ornate show tunes to form a wonderfully schizophrenic combination in Love. The group's second album boasted such strange but memorable tunes as "7 and 7 Is," "Orange Skies," and "She Comes in Colors," which Lee said was quite literally about making love to a woman who had her period. The album was capped off by the epic, 19-minute upside-down and inside-out blues, "Revelation," which was produced by an uncredited Neil Young. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sophmore LOVE is NOT second Best!
After the excellent, self-titled debut, it was hard to imagine that Arthur Lee and LOVE could top their pro-punkish selves on their second effort. While "Da Capo" is not as hard-edged and raw as "Love" was, it still packs plenty of punch.
4-0 out of 5 stars Rest In Peace, Arthur Lee
Having read only moments ago,of Lee's passing, I instantly thought back to the first time I heard the blistering proto-punk of "7 & 7 is" and thingking how cool the song was, but not realizing just how groundbreaking the record was. Unlike any band before them, especially being a multi-racial unit, Love fused wildly disparate influences (hard rock, folk, flamenco and orchestral pop)to forge something entirely new in the mid to late 60's and while they never achieved any major chart success, thier influence is still felt and heard today. Arthur Lee also scores major cool points for essentially introducing Jac Holzman to the music of Jim Morrison and The Doors and getting them signed to Elektra Records. While "Da Capo" has been widely criticized and unjustly maligned for being only 'half a great LP', (the 19 minute jam that comprises side 2 is indulgent but not nearly as horrid as some have claimed) the music here still sounds fresh and exciting and will instantly remind listeners of what an enormous talent we have lost. The music world just got a little less colorful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good album even with that long jammy thing
The first six songs on this album are as good as anything on the acclaimed Forever Changes LP.She Comes in Colors is a particularly affecting piece of 60s folksy psychedelia. At times this band sounds like the Byrds, other times like Buffalo Springfield, and other times like the Aftermath era Stones.

3-0 out of 5 stars Smiley Smile 2 stars - Wld Honey 4 stars
Smiley Smile simply is the moment when the Beach Boys died. It maybe impossible to imagine now, but up to 1966 the Beach Boys were as respected as artists as the Beatles. Smiley Smile is a rushed album, with practically no instrumentation whatsoever and many under-rehearsed vocals, except for Good Vibrations and Heroes and Villians. If Capitol ever releases aSmile box set as they promised, Smiley Smile will be then send to oblivion, in the hall of shame where it belongs. The world never took the beach boys seriously after that. Wild Honey is actually a very good album, not better than Pet Sounds or Smile, but different than anything they ever did before. Some of the songs and arrangements are totally Brian Wilson at his best. Some of the 'soul' vocals I find difficult to digest and I miss the Beach boys blend on the songs. The extra tracks on the album are ESSENTIAL to any serious beach boys fan, so, if you are, you need this album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smiley Smile- 4 Stars Wild Honey- 5 Stars
Letting go of the "what could have beens" with Smile hasn't been easy for many Beach Boys fans- yet it tarnishes a lot of what they did afterwards. There have been many bands that have had aborted projects- some songs found life in other projects. In the progression of The Beach Boys circa 1966-67 there's Pet Sounds, the "Good Vibrations" single, Smiley Smile, and then Wild Honey. There was a time when I might I have thought that Smiley Smile and Wild Honey were steps back artistically; especially when I would put myself to wondering about the aborted Smile project; but in my maturity the steps back artistically have become steps forward humanly. The proceeding albums had less flair and "ambition"; the staple became more and more friendly and subtle- especially when you include the wonderful Friends album.
5-0 out of 5 stars An awesome CD!
Smiley Smile is a terrific album, and definitely should rank among the most underrated, overlooked masterpieces of the last 200 years.

2-0 out of 5 stars Just plain flat and awful
Two stars because it's EC. However, i kept waiting for this to get some heart and soul and it never happened. I have no problem with Eric finishing off with Somewhere over the rainbow, but I thought he was going to finish it off with a gut wrenching searing solo, ala "Ain't nobody's business..." but he never did. I like to think of this as "Eric Plays the Holiday Inn, Altoona PA"

5-0 out of 5 stars great Clapton!
This album is between the"very best" of Clapton! There are just 2songs "weaks", Tears in Heaven and change the world, but all the other 18 songs......are powerful and superb! One more car, one more rider....is a must for a eric Clapton fan!

This box set ultimately represents a missed opportunity. It could have and should have been the ultimate collection of Garage-Punk classics and yet so much of it is substandard and unlistenable. Many of the recordings here are little more than copies of more famous bands' works. It has often been said by aficionados of this genre that out of every 100 copy-cat records of the mid-60s that offered little more than pure derivation, there was always one record that was blindingly transcendent. The search is perpetually on to discover that one record.Sadly, this set contains too many of the remaining 99.

5-0 out of 5 stars An underrated yet excellent album from Traffic
1973's Shootout at the Fantasy Factory was Traffic's follow-up to 1971's excellent and classic Low Spark of High Heelded Boys. While Shootout is not nearly as well known as a Traffic album, it's still an excellent disc.Only 5 songs on here, but they are all great!
5-0 out of 5 stars Another album from the golden age of Traffic's Jazz-Rock excursions
Traffic hit a new creative stride after Mason left the band following "Last Exit". Personally I am torn, because I really do like Mason's sound, but in the end I cannot deny that it helped Traffic as a group throw caution to the wind and really venture out from the world of Brit psychedelic pop-rock into rock-jazz fusion, with the addition of Reebop Kwanku-bah on drums for a more African-oriented sound (something Santana was doing too albeit in a Latinized way). One indicator of this transition is track length, which starts to take a jump up from 3-4 minutes to 6-10 minutes with "John Barleycorn Must Die" (the first post-Mason album) and continuing here and on Low Spark, etc. On "Shootout", we find Traffic mixing it up with slow ballads like "Sometimes I Feel So Uninspired", Jazzy instrumentals like "Tragic Magic", and two great tunes which can loosely be qualified as "rock": "Shootout at the Fantasy Factory" and the album's cornerstone, "Roll Right Stones", a 13-1/2 minute ripper where Wood and Winwood bust out their improvisational chops while Winwood shows off his incredible voice. Traffic is pretty much a footnote with most folks these days, which seems a bit strange considering the more prominent solo careers some of the musicians enjoyed afterwards, even with less creative musical material (i.e., Mason, Winwood). Part of that has to do with the more keyboard-brass driven sound of the band rather than the standard guitar-dominated sound of other contemporary rock-outfits: but the guitar as a driving element probably would have hindered their fusion excursions. On a related note: another plus is listening to how quickly Winwood's ability as a guitarist was progressing (the guitar is there, but is not prominent like it was with earlier albums), as it already is a huge step up from his offerings on "Welcome to the Canteen", and offers a glimpse of what is to come with "When the Eagle Flies" and "On the Road" (where he really sounds great). A somewhat overlooked but great classic-rock album.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Slow Return to Sanity
This Follow-up to "Low Saprk" is as I consider it material just as good in many respects to the first offering.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get Ready!
With very little of the Rare Earth catolog in print, Rare Earth "The Collection", is without question the single best compilation available from the first caucasion rock group to be signed to Motown records by Berry Gordy.Rare Earth if only for a short time, delivered the goods that sent them to the top of the charts.Their take on "Get Ready", became a monster hit, originally tracking in at 21 minutes, like many a AOR cut of the late 60's and early 70's, it was trimmed down to the usual 4 minutes for 45 single release.Although you get the edited version on this cd, "Get Ready" remains one of the greatest rock covers of a soul hit to date.In case you forgot, these guys also had a touch of soul as well, as seen in their 1972 hit "I Just Want To Celebrate", which blended rock, soul and psychedelia to perfection. They cover Dave Mason's "Feelin Alright", like every other band of the day, but again, awesome guitar work on this version makes it one of the best takes of this classic ever waxed. If Joe Cocker had not had a hit record with his cover of the song, I would be willing to bet that this Rare Earth cover would have received tons of airplay, making it a hit."Tobacco Road", is another standout along with "Magic Key" and "I'm Losing You".Lead vocalist and drummer Pete Rivera had a macho texture to his voice that is instantly recognized by anyone who listened to AOR in the early seventies. This compilation offers a generous 18 tracks for an attractive price, making it one of the best buys of classic rock and soul. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best Steve Miller album
This early incarnation of the Steve Miller Band with Boz Skaggs is a great example of Miller's early blues laced psychedelia, before slick production polished and perfected his sound. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars acid rock which is about LSD (psychedelic)
If 25 yr old wallflower Eric Andrews or any other reviewer does not believe that the Steve Miller organization was on LSD while composing and recording this or any other of their albums from the 1960's then he or she is a fool.
5-0 out of 5 stars INFO ABOUT SIDE A
Side A of Children Of The Future included a tale about the bands venture from the blues clubs of Chicago to San Francisco. You hear the chicago train sounds as people get on and ride while the band does a blues shuffle. You then hear the sound of a plane taking the band to the bay area. Next you hear the pacific ocean and gulls. They lived on Stinson beach, north of SF. A fine album. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection of songs.
Being that I was born in the mid-eighties, I did not have the priveledge of growing up listening to music of this sort. When I found this CD among my dad's collection I decided to give it a listen because I recognized some of the songs.I'm very glad I did!
1-0 out of 5 stars Shame on the KID who put this one together
This is one BAD example of the music of this decade. First, the 60s started on JAN.one but I guess that dosen't count!5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely one of the best Sixties music collections around
Yes, the definition of "Rock & Roll" is pretty broad when you have songs by the Tokens, B. J. Thomas and the Mamas & the Papas, but for my money what makes this a great collection is the more eclectic offerings such as "All Day and All of the Night" by the Kinks and "Five O'Clock World" by the Vogues. "I Love Rock & Roll: Hits of the '60s, Vol. 2" also does a nice job of covering the entire decade, from "Chapel of Love" and "Louie Louie" at the top to "Somebody to Love" and "Born to Be Wild."The number of tracks you might want to skip while listening to this one are few and far between, and, frankly, not worth the effort. You will get a true feel for the music of the Sixties from this excellent collection.Yes, it would nice if you could add the Beatles, the Stones and their kind to a collection like this, but it is never going to happen, so this might be as good as it gets.Be sure to check out their other offerings as well if you are looking to pick up more memorable hits from days of future passed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Every Career Should End Like This
I look at Harrison's Live In Japan as more than a collection of music played live.Taken with "Brainwashed" and "Concert For George", this album is the first of an epic trilogy in which George first says good bye to us, and then we say goodbye to him.
4-0 out of 5 stars A must for collectors
George Harrison after the Beatles broke up only toured twice.
5-0 out of 5 stars The missing piece................
i dont believe that people actually complain bout Live in Japan, come on guys, its george playing live.... how can u compare it to the 'concert for george' cd, sure the band for the tribute cd sounds better, maybe they even sing better then george, but u guys are missing the point, it aint a george song if he aint singing it, its just bunch of guys singing george songs, yeah u ave paul and ringo, they ave rite to sing it coz their the only surviving members but its like saying u luv birtney spears singing 'yer blues' or 'hey jude' or 'yellow submarine' or even 'for you blues', i beg to differ, even george not singing at his best, it is still george singing, if u listen closely, george is singing thru his heart, he meant every word, understand every word, coz who else in the world would know the meaning of the songs except for george, i should say he sang kinda like ala bob dylan in times they are a changin', george sang every song like he wanted to, if he feels the melody of the song should be sang like that so be it, every track is worth listen to, some of the song hadnt been played since the 60's, such as taxman etc, that alone is worth buying the cd, if u a truly beatles fan and truly a george harrison fan, u wouldnt complain 1 bit, coz its actually the best LP george had ever release since all things must pass and cloud 9.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Fructu non foliis arborem aestima-The Best of the Winterland Harvest
Anyone who wants the best Big Brother & Janis Joplin recording, this is it!
5-0 out of 5 stars Garage Band Blues
When I'm in the mood for Janis,I put on Cheap Thrills. Nothing wrong with Kozmic Blues or Pearl, but they are the "cleaned up, dressed for meetin'" Janis. There's something endearing, energizing, and wild about the intense sloppiness of Big Brother that's perfect for Janis' over the top caterwauling. Talk about the combination of the two! I'll be darned - it is better than Cheap Thrills! The band sears with buzzsaw acid-drenched guitars, practically coming off the track, with Janis hanging on for dear life. Time-warped garage band blues with a world class singer. Considering the technology at the time, the sound is great. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The George We Love
Thirty Three and 1/3 is George Harrison's first LP on his own Dark Horse label. It comes after a good many months of personal ordeal.Harrison made a concert tour with a show that mirrored The Concert for Bangladesh.East-West music. All the top Indian musicians opened the show, and then George and his band took over after the intermission. A bright highlight of the tour was a visit to the White House, as the guest of Jack Ford, son of Gerald Ford, President.
4-0 out of 5 stars Correction -- for the editor
Hi there: Stupidly wrote in my review that Gary Wright was from Procol Harum -- duhhh, he was from "Spooky Tooth". Please correct. Thanks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Harrison Stays With You
I've just recently come back to this album on CD after *many* years. After 33 1/3 was released on vinyl in 1976 (the title's now a bit silly), I virtually played the grooves off it, finding that tunes like "It's What You Value", "Crackerbox Palace", "This Song", and even the meditational "Dear One" had smart hooks that stuck in my head like crazy. I was then -- and am now -- convinced that this album is a really fine example of Harrison's tunesmithing and production sense. As a working musician, coming back now brings new value. The players here are 1st rank: friends Gary Wright (Procol Harum) and Billy Preston on keyboards along with the late lamented Richard Tee on piano and even the now-legendary David Foster. Willie Weeks lays down great, funk-inspired bass lines (see "Woman Don't You Cry For Me", and Alvin Taylor (Eric Burdon, Frank Zappa, Elton John, etc.) has great rock sense. There are times when the Tom Scott (sax)/Richard Tee duo sound recalls the Saturday Night band sound or Paul Simon's "One Trick Pony" days. This is strong material, beautifully produced, and expertly played. There's also some very interesting Harrison guitar work (e.g. the solo in "Pure Smokey"), as every understated and tasty. Beyond "All Things Must Pass" this is my favourite George Harrison album. Well worth looking at. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Late '60's UK Psych
Tomorrow released only one self titled album in 1968. Hilight's of album are "My White Bicycle" with backwards tapes and good guitar. Revolution and Real Life Permanent Dream are good psychedelia with some trippy lyrics. Tomorrow never overcame to excess in their songs. Songs were tightly crafted psych pop.

4-0 out of 5 stars Seminal first and last release for Howe's warm up band
Though fairly obscure, "Tomorrow" was highly influencial on the burgeoning psychedelic scene. While the album contained a coupleof silly tracks ('Auntie Marie's Dress Shop', 'Three Jolly Little Dwarves'), the majority of "Tomorrow" was a collection of great psych moments such
