4-0 out of 5 stars Elton RAW
It is the raw sound of this album that first attracted me to it when I first bought it ages ago in Europe (under the heading 17-11-70 because of the different date headings they use). This was a concert Elton performed with just his bandmates, drummer Nigel Olson and bassist Dee Murray at a record studio in New York City. This is an electrifying set capturing the intensity of Elton's early performances, circa the famed Troubadour performance in LA in 1970.
2-0 out of 5 stars Fans can never be objective...
From the OBJECTIVE reviewer...Elton live is rarely a good thing. This CD is no exception and if it weren't for his better than average version of "Take Me To the Pilot" this wouldn't even get 2 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jaw-droppingly good
I'm always stunned when I see this record treated as one of Elton's weakest efforts, because I think it is BY FAR the most exciting, explosive record he ever put out.As a professional pianist/singer/songwriter, this is easily the most influential record I own.(I've also heard that fellow piano-basher Ben Folds has said something similar.)All live records should be this good. ... Dismissed by some as the redneck Led Zeppelin, yet beloved by a faithful and grassroots following for just that reason, Lynyrd Skynyrd sailed above it all--even the dark tragedy that befell them less than a year after this landmark live set was recorded in Atlanta. A triple-platinum perennial in its classic-rock heyday, this 25th anniversary edition has been digitally restored and authentically remixed on vintage '70s equipment to great effect. The band's performances have also been resequenced to their original running order to accurately recreate the Skynyrd '70s live experience. Read more

what a review by the abb freak. to say that LS is a third rate band and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, is a discredit to all southern. being a fan of both bands, this O M F T R is a great albumn. i do have one problem with it, though. where is " T FOR TEXAS" ? how can you listen to the LS version of T for Texas and say that they cannot slip the slide? i would say the abb fan has a couple of michael jackson lp's hid in his secret place, wouldn't you? FREE PALESTINE!
4-0 out of 5 stars A nice set
This is excellent. The only drag and reason it's not 5 stars is the bonus tracks don't give you any real variety. It may just have been the set's they were playing at the time. But it's top notch quality white hot
5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST LIVE LP EVER MADE!
I have owned this since it came out on vinyl and still think it was the best live LP ever made. You could not ask for better sound and better "punch" then this! It really makes the studio recordings of some of the songs sound LAME! Only "Frampton Comes Alive" (Peter Frampton) is even a close second in great live recordings. I love it! ... Read more

This sprawling three-records-on-two-CDs set offers a healthy cross-section of material and finds the band honing even further its blend of musical languages. There are country-inflected boogies, blues rave-ups, passionate ballads, and, of course, the extended, adventurous jams that made them famous. Many of the Dead's best-loved tunes made their initial vinyl appearances here, including "He's Gone," "Jack Straw," "Brown-Eyed Women," "Ramble on Rose," and "Tennessee Jed"--most of which reveal a heavy country influence, especially in Robert Hunter's lyrics. 5-0 out of 5 stars A tough call
I couldn't decide between giving this four or five stars. A good album but like Grateful Dead(skull and roses)this one also has overdubs both on Pig's parts and vocal overdubs. A large bit of the bonus(Good Lovin'ect) is from 4-14-72 and, unlike most people, i've never been a big fan of that performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Easiest 5-Star review I've Ever Written
I first heard Europe '72 in 1974, walking into a friend's dorm room, Truckin' was playing, and I thought "Oh, Jesus, this is it!"Thirty-two years later, as I play it in my car, I feel exactly the same way.I've got hundreds of shows, and saw my share as well, and it takes nothing away from any of them to say that the Truckin'/Epilogue jam is as good as anything they ever did. It's pure poetry, with all of them at the peak of their form moving with precision through four or five motifs before absolutely ecstatic interplay towards the end.Unbelievable.Please play it at my funeral, so those in attendance will know why we were put here. And, oh yeah, Weir on China Cat, Jerry on Mr. Charlie, the vocals on Jack Straw ("sun so hot, the clouds so low"), the chorus on Brown Eyed Women . . . .To paraphrase Kabir: "You want to know the truth?I will tell you the truth.I listened to this and it made me a believer for life."

5-0 out of 5 stars YOU KEEP ME UP JUST ONE MORE NIGHT...........
HEY! I get jealous when albums that I already own on CD get re-released with umpteen bonus cuts. What the F Rhino? No, I'm just kidding. All you Dead Heads out there should praise Rhino records for the amazing remaster jobs they have done on DEAD albums over the past five years, it is truly incredible how alive these old records sound now. EUROPE '72 goes way back in the DEAD catalouge, yet at the time this was the bands third live release on a major label (I guess somebody got the idea that Grateful Dead were a better live band or something, I don't know.) This, much like the one prior to this contained a fine mix of songs already known, and songs that had never been on record... TENNESSEE JED for example was never recorded in a studio. Neither were HE'S GONE, JACK STRAW, or BROWN EYED WOMEN. Its hard to believe, because these are some of the bands most well known songs, and they all made their first album appearances here. Also lets not forget CUMBERLAND BLUES. That song taken from WORKINGMANS DEAD, is hands down the best version of one of my favorite DEAD tunes.

Not going to comment on another reviewer's complaints about the sound quality compared to the vinyl - never heard it on vinyl and not qualified to compare.
5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Live Ever
MOst of the time I offer opinions in reviews. This time I am simply going to state a "fact." Live Rust is the GREATEST live record in existence. Nothing comes within 200 million lightyears of it. The songs chosen are perfect for the set, the performances stellar, and the music otherwordly. The last quarter of the album is the highlight of the divine Neil Young's career.

4-0 out of 5 stars fade away so young, with so much left undone
This album is excellent. The opening of this CD is more acoustic and laid back and in the second half Young and Crazy Horse rock out. I have lots of memories listening to this album with friends either in the car or out drinking when we camped. My personal favorites are Powderfinger, Comes a Time, Needle and the damage done/Lotta love and Sedan Delivery. If you really love Neil Young though i'd buy "on the beach" if you don't already own it and you call yourself a Young fan you gotta buy that before this. Overall a solid album with Live Rust though. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars live and real
This is a brilliant album,
4-0 out of 5 stars check this out too
I am a huge fan of catchy, country-folk music with insightful lyrics. If you enjoy this album then I strongly recommend that you check out the following:
5-0 out of 5 stars I'm satisfied...as always.
Casting aside a small number of albums released in the 80's, the decade that inevitably sabotaged every good musicians career at the time, Neil Young rarely, if ever, disappoints. Unplugged is no exception, being a release in a series of many by MTV highlighting mostly grunge bands unplugging their distortion-filled hits such as Alice In Chains and Nirvana, although Eric Clapton also did a similar performance. The show is well rounded, delivering a number of hits and fan favorites, some of which stay true to their original acoustic form as well as a few nice surprises thrown into the mix for good measure. Helpless, Long May You Run, and Pocahontas stay along the same lines as their original forms: acoustic, soulful ballads, none the least of which is the deceivingly soft The Needle And The Damage Done.

5-0 out of 5 stars sublime crudeza......

5-0 out of 5 stars Erics best live album!
The Rainbow concert is with out any shadow of a doubt the all time best live Eric Clapton album. Clapton has made quite a few of them and they are all for the most part good but this one is by far the best. If all the live albums and times I myself have seen the man live he never sounded more energetic or played better or sang better for that matter then on this record. This was the legendary concert Eric Clapton and Peter Townshend of The Who put on together back in 1973, this is like to Eric Clapton what At Filmour East is to The Allman Brothers Band.

5-0 out of 5 stars An awesome remastering!
I too had the MFSL CD and thought that it sounded OK.... although I knew from experience there was a lot of information missing, I assumed, due to poor master tapes, etc. I worked on a project with MFSL back in the eighties and knew how capable they were of doing some great things.
4-0 out of 5 stars Conquistador's on this one
The live version of Conquistador here is so much better than the studio version. If the CD had nothing else on it, it'd still be good. The salty Dog version here is very good, too, but the live Conquistador here is the highlight for me. Rest of album isn't bad either.

Editorial Review

This 1972 live album is a watershed recording for the Band. Recorded the previous New Year's Eve, the two-disc concert recording presents the core quintet fortified by a five-man horn section overseen by New Orleans ace Allen Toussaint, and it is capped by a guest appearance by Bob Dylan. The brass and reed players incite the group to gut it out with more unrestrained fire than these road-hardened vets were accustomed to. The lion's share of the set selections are culled from the quintet's first four studio albums; only an ebullient cover of the Marvin Gaye hit "Don't Do It," the unremarkable original "Get Up Jake," Garth Hudson's mind-boggling organ improvisation "The Genetic Method," and an absolutely piercing version of Chuck Willis's "Hang Up My Rock and Roll Shoes" spice up the reliable album selections on disc one. But Levon Helm, Rick Danko, and Richard Manuel sound like they're having so much fun singing the likes of "King Harvest," "Stage Fright," "Caledonia Mission," and "Chest Fever" that it matters not that Robbie Robertson's writing muse had already pretty much dried up. The 2001 digitally remastered reissue includes an entire second disc of previously unreleased tracks, including four with Dylan at the mic. More than four years would pass before the Robertson version of the Band would call it a day following its star-studded Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic live album
I've had this for years on vinyl but only now have gotten around to picking it up on CD. I've been listening to it with great pleasure. It's every bit as good as I remember musically, and the remastered sound is quite good. The Band were on fire those nights, but what really puts the record over the top for me are the brilliant horn arrangements by Allen Toussaint, which are individualistic and striking yet invariably sensitive to the song. To do what he did required a rare combination of academic knowledge, flat-out funk, and impeccable taste. It would be hard to think of another arranger around at the time who could have pulled off this trick so well for this particular music and these particular musicians.

Here's something for the Clapton fan who enjoys hearing him play in all manner of contexts. On this two-CD set, recorded over a 24-night stand at London's Albert Hall, Clapton performs with a stripped-down four-piece band; a more lushly arranged nonet, an all-star blues lineup featuring stellar guitarists Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, and Jimmie Vaughan as well as legendary pianist Johnnie Johnson; and a full orchestra conducted by Michael Kamen. Most fans will find the blues segment the most endearing, but the album proves that Clapton is a blues-rock master who can excel in almost any setting. Read more

It's nothing short of remarkable that Roger Waters has built a successful career on obsessive ruminations on alienation, megalomania, and guilty fame, largely on the backs of one of history's most long-lived arena acts. The musical legacy Waters has shared with "another band" (as he sharply refers to his former Pink Floyd mates in this collection's self-penned liner notes) has served two distinctly different functions: part and parcel of the latter's nostalgia act; autobiographical foundation for the former's ongoing, if decidedly egocentric, Rage at the World. That's essentially the rationale this live collection uses to lean heavily on Waters's Pink prime, from Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars IN THE FLESH - ROGER WATERS
THIS IS A GREAT CD.IT IS DEFINITLY A MUST HAVE FOR ALL ROGER WATER AND PINK FLOYD FANS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Triumph of a malcontent
Haunted by tragedy and dogged by bitterness and egomania, Roger Waters has made a tempting target for critics. It's been tempting to think he got what he deserved for breaking with the Floyd and finding that his own name recognition with fans was comparatively marginal. But this album and tour show why many more-than-casual Floyd fans prefer Roger to a Gilmour-led empty shell of a band.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I have had the DVD of In The Flesh for awhile now and it is still one of my favorite concert DVD'S. I liked it so much that I just had to get the CD version so I can hear it on the road. Roger Water's & his band sounds terrific. To me, theres nothing like certain live versions of songs that you have grown up with. Roger does an especially awesome job with Wish You Were Here and Mother. An outstanding cast as well! If your a fan (like me) of Roger Waters & Pink Floyd, you will love this CD. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, but kind of predicitable
The song selection and "unplugged" vibe of this album is great, but it sounds kind of phoned in. I was hoping for something along the lines of Nirvana unplugged where the artist really strips down and exposes the raw, visceral, fragile, beautiful, and pure origin of his muse, or at least something approaching that. Instead this kind of sounds like the boys got together on the weekend, had a couple beers, maybe smoked a joint, just chilled out and threw down a jam. I mean it's The Stones; it's great, but more laid back and relaxed than immediate and vital. Highly recommended, highly enjoyable, but don't expect it to knock your socks off or anything.

5-0 out of 5 stars Attended The Brixton Academy show
Agree with most comments as this is a very good live album compared to other live Cds of the stones especially the recent, I was lucky to have attended the Brixton Academy club gig and I must say it was a night that I will never forget, the only pitty on the Cd is that there arenot a few more tracks on the Stripped Cd they played that night as they were on fire (and it already was very hot at the venue,so you can imagine)

This is not only a seminal live album but it also works very well as a greatest hits compilation. For the casual listener, every song you would need to have is here. There's no weird stuff, they just rip through all of their best songs.
5-0 out of 5 stars On my top 10 ever.
This album always gets reviews based on the guitar work, this is simply a great band recorded at their peak. The guitar work is awesome, but the keyboard are too, as is the singing, and...If you like 70's Metal, you have to have this album. On my top ten list since it came out!

If you are new to UFO..., this is where you start your collection(you WILL buy more). Everyone has weighed in on the Michael Schenker saga and has their own opinion. This album can be reviewed very simply, it is the "BEST OF" the Schenker era pre Walk On Water.

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT THE RYODISC RADIO ONE LIVE SESSIONS
these are pre-canned radio shows with the ever unbearable alexis korner talking on top of the songs as wow cool groovy DJ "intro". the old Radio One was a real live in studio show that was GREAT. THese are mostly studio released cuts from the first and second album mixed with DJ chatter and one HEndrix interview with a phoney, well let's hear that song now shall we intro to the recorded album version! As one who has been seriously burned by repackaged Hendrix stuff in the past, and as a loong time fan (I remember when he lived and died) it takes alot for me NOT to recommend all things Hendrix, but I cannot recommend this. Find the actual LIVE RAdio One recording, not these packaged cut and pasted radio shows
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
I was pretty impressed with the perfomances of Jimi Hendix in this album. He, as usual puts his soul into all of his songs, but also is able to just fool around and jam like in his cover of "Hound Dog". Jimi gets to experiment with the blues as well in this album and I personally think that is where Jimi is most talented. I am also impressed with BBC as a whole, first because I have the Led Zeppelin BBC sessions, and they were equally as awesome. Second because in BBC sessions, the artists get to just have fun with the music and play with raw talent. I highly suggest this album if you are a Hendrix fan and you should look for other BBC versions of your favorite artists as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definatly worth the money.
This is an awesome Hendrix album I connot complain about it in one way except for the fact that the sound quality could be better but besides that this thing can't get much better. It is cool because you get to listen to Hendrix play live at the BBC Studio. If you're thinking about buying it my opinion to that question would be definatly yes I have no idea how you couldn't like this album it is well worth the money and I highly reccomend this Hendrix 2 disk set! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The closing of the Fillmore East
This for the most part is picked very well. There are some noteworthy moments that didn't make the cd for various reasons. Get this with Grateful Dead(Skull & Roses) and relive some really cool music from the spring of '71.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Grateful Dead CD ever
I have many Grateful Dead CD's and have seen them LIVE many times. This is one of the greatest compilations ever! One of the best songs on this CD is "Hard to Handle". You can really tell that some of the modern groups like the Black Crowes must have listened to some of these songs. Another great part of these old shows is that there was only one drummer.

5-0 out of 5 stars The King of Dead Live
Many will contend that 1972 was the apex of the live Grateful Dead experience, and their case is strong: "Steppin' Out," "Europe '72," "Rockin' the Rhein," and the stellar "Hundred Year Hall" all chronicle a year when the Dead were definitely in a groove, especially during their European trek. However, for my money, these shows at the Fillmore East in April of 1971 rank right up there with any Dead performances ever caught on tape. This is a rollicking four-disc set, with an up tempo and excellent sound quality, and the boys are absolutely sharp. From fun covers such as "Ain't it Crazy (The Rub)" and "Second That Emotion" to excellent renditions of standards such as "Dark Star," "Uncle John's Band," and "St. Stephen," these shows shot out of the gate and rocked the whole way. The highlights, however, are the Pigpen tracks. By 1972 his health had reduced his form, but here he is in full, raging glory on "Alligator," a cover of "In the Midnight Hour," and the best "Turn On Your Lovelight" I've ever heard (which is saying something). And it all wraps up with a rousing, sing-a-long "We Bid You Goodnight."

2-0 out of 5 stars Low energy.
Being a huge fan of J. Geils' "Full House," I was encouraged by some reviews here to believe that "Blow Your Face Out" was a similar live effort. But the only similarity is that they were both recorded live. "Blow Your Face Out" is funky and laid back. Not bad, if that's what you want. But anyone expecting something along the lines of Full House will be tremendously disappointed. In fact, "Lookin' For Love," which will knock your socks off on "Full House," is done as a slow, elavator Muzac tune in "Blow Your Face Out." Why did they even bother?
5-0 out of 5 stars This J. Geils Band Live Album Is Even Better Than FULL HOUSE
BLOW YOUR FACE OUT, The J. Geils Band's second live album, is even better than FULL HOUSE. The band has managed to take the Memphis-Chicago-Muscle Shoals-St. Louis-New Orleans-Detroit-New York-Kansas City blues/R&B/soul/rock & roll traditions to the next level by including more originals this time out, and moreover, Peter Wolf's onstage raps have improved immensely since the last album. Any serious rock fan must own this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars this is a killer live album
i got it at used record shop. before that, i'd only heard the 'freeze frame' era j geils. 'Where did our love go' blows away both the supremes and soft cell's (possibly the baddest live rendition of the tune anywhere). 'lookin for a love' sounds different than the studio version i heard later but there isn't a bad tune on here. these guys rocked out similar to the stones et al. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars this is the best live album ever. period.
Knopfler's smooth textures mix with sheer rock make every song a winner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply put, the best live album I know.
Just compare the live version of "Sultans of Swing" to the original (from the first Dire Straits album), and you'll get my meaning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great live performance from a non-fan
I'm not a big Dire Straits fan but when I first heard this album in the eighties it left such an impression. A less cleaned up version of a "live" album; it is not annoying, but adds to the great feel of the album. The cheap sounding sound system or recording is a big help too. The tune selection, vocals, and a touch of blues bring it all together. You will wish you were there.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars may be somewhat too much, but....
This is the new edition CD for the soundrtrack of the film on the Who's history. For those who have seen the film, as I have many times now, it is as uneven as the film itself. There are some really great moments both historically and musically, but the use of too many sources is very very distracting. There is stuff that is not in the movie (the great version of My Wife) and vice versa (Who are you and Barbara Ann) which means that even as a soundtrack it does fail, like many of the Who's projects, because by trying way too hard it loses focus. however this is much stronger material than any other group has. There are passages from Woodstock, there are bits from the Smother's Brothers shows. Which other group can provide that? The best part is of course the fantastic version of Won't Get Fooled Again that is even an improvement on the recorded version and of which I have heard no better recorded live version. As some have written the sound quality is also too varied since the sources range from live appearances to TV stuff to studio versions. Great but somewhat overwhelming still.

5-0 out of 5 stars MCA finally gets it right, sort-of
This was my first Who album and I long resisted purchasing the CD version of this because MCA had butchered the original album in order to make it a single CD and (in theory, at least)keep the price down. So they dropped the magnificent inner sleeve booklet and all the little bits of artwork the LP included (like the LP label that resembled a film reel and gradually got smaller as you played each side of the album)as well as their medley of Join Together/Roadrunner/My Generation Blues.
5-0 out of 5 stars Tremendous stuff....
This was the first Who album I got, and I play the living hell out of it.It's mostly live, but in many ways, the live versions are superior to the studio ones, especially the songs from Who's Next.I have the original CD issue, which is missing the song Join Together/Roadrunner/My Generation Blues. This was always my least favorite song on the album.Join Together sounds especially bad.I really like the original version (which is on the box set, Maximum R & B).The original CD issue didn't have the booklet that accompanied the LP, but I have the original LP with the booklet still intact. So, yes, you should buy this, but only upgrade if you really dig that one song and/or want the booklet. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Tull, at the top of their game ... 1978, Live ...
I remember buying this album and "This is the Moody Blues" (a double compilation) sometime late in 1978. Of the two this one got most played and rates as one of the great live albums I have ever heard. For me bands typically have up to 3 great live albums in them. 1. When they are new / fresh / energetic / confident. 2. Normally when they are at their creative peak, fully confident and feel on top of the world normally touring on the back of a great album. 3. The last is normally an anniversary type event (eg 20 years, a farewell concert etc). Example of these would be Rush (1. All the worlds a stage,2. Exit Stage Left and 3. R30) and Dream Theater (1. Live at the Marquee, 2. Live Scenes from New York and 3. Score.
5-0 out of 5 stars Remastered Hard-Rocking Live Album
I am not a big fan of live albums. Often the songs are poorly recorded live versions of what is already available on studio albums. Even when the music is recorded well, why have a live version when the studio version is better? However, there are a few live albums that present recordings better than those from a studio, or show a different side to a performer or group than the studio albums. This recording falls into the second category.
1-0 out of 5 stars A rip off compared to the original cd
The material is excellent as it comes from the late 70's period, some call Tull's best.
