3-0 out of 5 stars Perfectionism, Shmerfectionism
I bought this not so much for the remastered CD but for the (I thought) DVD-Audio.And that for the stereo, not the 5.1 (since I don't have a surround system yet). However, it turns out the stereo DVD mix isn't "DVD-Audio".At least, the corresponding indicator LED doesn't light up on my playback deck. The packaging says it's 24-bit and the DTS logo indicates 96KHz but I suspect the sample rate is lower than 96.
3-0 out of 5 stars The apex of theatrical rock
Out of all the "theater rock" bands Queen is probably the best but should any self respecting man ever utter the phrase "Scaramouche, Scaramouche will you do the fandango?"Probably not.
5-0 out of 5 stars There is only one QUEEN
This by far is the place to start, if you want to appreciate the brilliance of Queen. As other generations are buying this just to get"Bohemian Rhapsody", those of us from other generations found a much smoother song in "The Prophets Song". This is CD is a variety of very different types of music, with something for anyone that loves music. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD Layer
I read the reviews for this hybrid SACD with great interest, wondering if the CD layer was as fantastic as the SACD layer was reported to be. I bought the standard CD remaster several years ago when it first came out, but even though it was a big improvement over the original CD release, it was still a little disappointing. I just finished my first listening of the CD layer on this hybrid, and I can whole heartedly, and without any reservations, say that this CD is everything I hoped it would be. Folks, if you have a critical ear for sound quality, this is the version you want to buy. It will play on any standard CD player or SACD player.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rock and roll just pays the bills.
This album by Queen was released in 1978.Despite the album's title, it has no jazz influences on it whatsoever. It sounds like a typical Queen album. There are a number of classic Queen songs on it, like "Fat Bottomed Girls", "Bicycle Race" and "Don't Stop Me Now".There are some other good songs, and a few that aren't that good. The CD features a useless remix of "Fat Bottomed Girls", which sounds virtually identical to the original version, and a remix of "Bicyle Race", which actually does sound a lot different from the original version. Most Queen fans will enjoy this album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands down their best...
All the Queen I heard before this album was only mildly interesting. A little too operatic for my then-heavy-metal tastes. But with Jazz I finally got it. Every song is a gem. The whole album flows and was also featured largely on their excellent "Live Killers". Maybe it's sentimentality on my part, but I NEVER was into any other Queen album as much as this one. If you ever had any doubt about Queen's ability to 'jam', just listen to "Dead On Time". Lots of nostalgia with this one. In my top ten of all time.

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential for any Queen fan!
Definitely one of my favorite albums by Queen - it's got some true classics and some hidden treasures that I never tire of.My song-by-song overview:

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Album by the Original Cooper band.
This album is a mega hit, it reached number 1 on the charts in 1973, and is still selling much today, and it has some of Coopers greatest hits.
3-0 out of 5 stars Up There With London Calling and Revolver..Yeah Right.........
The critic who wrote the liner notes is a buffoon when he compares this album to "London Calling" and "Revolver".
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing walk into the wonderland of Alice Cooper
If you were a rock lover and were born anytime after 1955 you must have had this in your record collection. This is the definitive Alice Cooper at his prime.Metaldiva loved that this was an instant parent irritator, but also dug the quality of the music, with Bob Ezra's touch, that won the folks over in the end.The newly mastered DVD of "Welcome to My Nightmare" is the perfect companion to this fabulous remaster. Some remastered cd's go too far and lose the essence of the original release, but this is crisp and enjoyable. This is the second to last album with the actual Alice Cooper band.(If you get a chance to see the any of the actual footage from the very early days, you can actually see the "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" influence on the creation of Alice Cooper as a persona- very very cool.) Metaldiva waves kisses and sends great love to Alice himself, but also must acknowledge the band that helped bring us the one with the black-streaked peepers and lips, with riding crop in hand, we've come to love like one of the family. (and believes he would not have it any other way)

5-0 out of 5 stars Never released a bad album
Queen is one of the few rock artists that have never really bombed with an album. People would say Hot Space was a bomb but it had quite a few great tracks on it. Even great artists such as Bob Dylan, who I'm a huge fan of, have had terrible albums....anyways...This is another great Queen album, maybe too 80s for some but it's good 80s, believe me.
5-0 out of 5 stars It is Queen! It is great!
I think my title says it all.My husband wanted the soundtrack to the Highlander movie and I found out this was it and he loves it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mixed Styles
A Kind Of Magic is similar to The Works (84) and The Game (80) where there are a number of great tracks and several good tracks without ever rising to the unique greatness of some of their earlier efforts from the 70's. It keeps the rock that was rediscovered on The Works and turns it up a notch for most of the tracks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Innuendo1991
A great ending for queen.Innuendo finds queen in fine form using their strong diverse songwriting abilities at their best. Innuendo, the show must go on, and slightly mad find queen at their epic best, while songs like these are the days and don't try so hard are great ballads. To the last reviewer: obviously you a minority in saying this album isn't good, If I was you I would stick to whitestink. Whitestank isn't a fraction of what queen was, but eventually you'll learn.

5-0 out of 5 stars At The Top Again! ...(But This Time Forever!)
With thisfine recording in 90's, Queen reached again their peakest moment almost like in 1975. Listening to this record one can listen and find the structure and essence of the outstanding "A Night At The Opera" album. It's evident that the structure and rules of "A Night.." are here, but with a different and more modern application, plus with all the operatic mock Opera stuff for what Queen was always identificated: We can find all this similarities over and over as the music goes...and we can interpret it as follows (please listen the time signatures, chord changes, tones and tempos; and the creative, and not so obvious, use of the spanish mixolydian mode on chord changes and solos(*), or the chromatic ascending/decending chord changes (+), etc.):
5-0 out of 5 stars It amazes me still ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Shock Rock Perfection
Is there a better twisted hard rock album in existence? I doubt it. In addition to the instantly memorable melodies performed by the classic Alice Cooper line-up, we get Alice's uniquely weird lyrics to go with them. The songs humorously address such topics as teenage confusion/angst in the Top Forty hit "I'm Eighteen"; the occult in "Black Juju"; Christianity in "Hallowed By My Name" and "Second Coming"; and teen restlessness in the opening track "Caught In A Dream" and "Long Way To Go". This disc had way too much influence on me as a teen. Mental illness ("Ballad of Dwight Fry") seemed so fantastically exotic when Alice was singing about it. Alas, though I'm not as nutty as poor Dwight, I'm not quite right in the head either these days. Long rock songs tend to bore me but "Ballad" and "Black Juju" are perfectly justified in their length. There's not a wasted note in either song. This was the first Alice Cooper album produced by Bob Ezrin. Under his guidance the band really flowered. He would go on to produce the remaining classic Alice Cooper albums "Killer" through "Billion Dollar Babies". Check these out as well- they're almost as good as "Death".

4-0 out of 5 stars Clearly their best album
This is when the band peaked. You had the perfect combination of legitimate rock, bold experimentation and trademark theatrics.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent album, but still sounds like crap.It needs to be re-mastered
I truly appreciate that Rhino Records re-released and remastered Alice Cooper's "Billion Dollar Babies" and "Welcome To My Nightmare" which included bonus tracks and more.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Four Star 'Breakfast'
Although some of the songs on this soundtrack aren't nearly as good as the others, it's well worth it for the ones that stand out. This is not your typical soundtrack with popular songs that everyone will know - in fact, the best ones are those that I hadn't heard before.
1-0 out of 5 stars The good songs are missing
The soundtrack to this movie was ecclectic and truly great. The movie mixed Gavin Friday rockers with Van Morrison's Madam George with The Buffalo Springfield's For What It's Worth and added several really great songs by virtual unknowns. Unfortunately, whoever selected the songs for this CD thought commonplace marginal songs like Patti Page's How much is that doggie in the window or Bobby Goldsboro's Honey was the key to capturing the essense of this movie. It boggles the mind. There are a few good songs on the CD like Sugar Baby Love,Children of the Revlolution and a Gavin Friday or two song but It's unfortunate that you can't get all of the really good songs from this movie and have to settle for watching the movie so that you can hear snippits of the best songs in the movie....but I'd rather do that than listen to dribble like Morris Alberts Wedding fare, Feelings. Save Your Money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Anna Jordan Strings Together a Strand of Stars
Anna Jordan is the one to whom this outstanding musical score for the delightful BREAKFAST ON PLUTO film, a story about a young Patrick 'Kitten' Jordan who lives his misunderstood life in the 1970s as though he were out somewhere in the cosmos, is attributed.Actually Jordan contributes some fine original music to the flow of the film, but her biggest contribution is her selection of oldies but goodies from the 60s and 70s that capture the aura of Neil Jordan's fine and sensitive adaptation of the Patrick McCabe novel.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Alice Cooper ever in my opinion.
What do you remember about 1978? I don't remember anything, and it was not because I was to young. This is Cooper rehab album he made after a long life of sex drugs and rock and roll. A reflection album and I could relate to that. So this album hold a special place in my mental history of autoboigraphical albums. Standing alone it is an excellent album by it's self regardless of personnal placement. Good tunes that blend well together as most of coopers albums do, more of a story than a collection of songs of the moment. Some what Floydish in design of story telling. If you are a Cooper fan I don't have to sing accalades of the album (disc) if you are new it's a must have for any retro collection. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 5 STARS.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Rollercoaster Ride For The Insane
What can I say? I have owned this in every form, from 8 track, to vinyl, to cassette, to cd... and I will get it again in whatever form it arrives. It is simply THAT good!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Darkness
I have been listening to this album for many years and it is perhaps my favorite album of all time. However, no one I've talked to, including my fellow metalhead friends, had ever heard of the album. It is nice to look at these reviews and see that I'm neither alone nor crazy in my love of this work.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fascinating look at Queen's roots and an excellent debut in it's own right
For a select few bands their self-titled album effort is one which becomes a smash hit and even changes the landscape of music.Queen is not one of them, whose eponymous debut was this gem that was so invisible it's lead single, "Keep Yourself Alive", did not even chart.
5-0 out of 5 stars Still stunningly fresh after all these years
My first Queen album, and still one of my favorite. Mercury's vocals are incomparable; his range is as far-reaching as his lyrics. The band is tight, the music is unique and powerful. Queen rocks. Vive Freddie!

5-0 out of 5 stars Different from the later Queen, but still exellent.
I have no idea how the critics tossed this one aside when it came out. It is one of my all time favorite albums.

Queen's Flash Gordon Soundtrack is quite possibly the most perfect film score ever recorded. It is not a soundtrack; it is a score. And it rules. That is all that needs to be said.
5-0 out of 5 stars flashgordon soundtrack
the cd was in excellent condition and was delivered in a timely manner

4-0 out of 5 stars An important but misunderstood facet of Queen's personality
As a pre-teen fan of Queen in the late 70's with vigilant parents, acquiring their music was difficult. While Queen's lyric text is largely harmless, their generally adult-themed and possibly homoerotic subtext (i.e. "Don't Try Suicide", "Killer Queen") was not deemed appropriate for my nine year old ears.I yearned to own "The Game," but in the end my parents and I compromised on the largely instrumental "Flash Gordon" soundtrack.Strangely, this fit quite well into youthful musical conception.I had been exposed to musical storytelling by way of Rick Wakeman's "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" as well as becoming healthily obsessed with the "Star Wars" soundtrack."Flash Gordon" seemed to fit neatly somewhere between these two.Ultimately, it was cool to be nine in 1980 and own a Queen album, despite the fact that my friends thought it was totally lame.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Battleground of Mick & Ian
Mott the Hoople had covered lot's of ground since the first album was released way back in 1969. Described as "Dylan's, Blond on Blond meets spacey Roller Skating Rink music" the band had nothing to prove to me by the 1973 release of their 6th record " MOTT ". I was a crazy off-kilter teenaged wastland and their music was the soundtrack of my life. Still I was upset over " Dudes " as not being the best way to representthis great band. Sorry to tell you kid's,but once you labeled Mott the Hoople a'Glam' band you destroyed them!
4-0 out of 5 stars Mott's best album
Mott the Hoople was never a great band. They never could hold their own with either Bowie, Bolan or Queen. They put out three very good albums(Dudes, Mott and Hoople) and a lot of other stuff, before Mick Ralph got a better offer and headed off to Bad Company and Ian Hunter got feed up with the rest of the mates and went Solo. What this band is about is being the soundtrack of your life in the early 1970

"Siren" is a passionate masterpiece.Musically, the songs are a masterful alchemy.Roxy music melds jazz, rock, disco, and a progressive injection of their own components to come up with the first album to be allegedly coined "New Wave".They were so far ahead of the curve, it would take five years for "New Wave" to become a household term.Singer-songwriter Bryan Ferry's gentle, yet passionate voice gives the songs a worthy desperation. The lyrics, guitars, keyboards, and saxophone skillfully assemble a powerful music voyage. It is mostly a mesmerizing and soaring work throughout.Lyrically, the album is closer to being a concept album than most claim to be."Siren" tells a story from beginning to end. (The lyrics are written or co-written by Ferry with other members of the band.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Listened To This In The 70's , It May Explain Things.....
I listened to this album (my older brothers) during the 70's, ad nausea. For me it is must own Bowie. I like this album so much that I'm even into Chant of the ever circling skeletal family! I actually think that song's very cool but I may be alone on that one. For me this is Bowie's best. I followed him through the 70's (I remember seeing him on Soul Train doing Golden Years), the pop 80's from Ashes to Ashes to China Girl, even followed him a bit in Tin Machine and later hating Americans or something, lol. This is my all time favorite Bowie, I'm ordering it today so we can get reacquainted. Highly recommended, definitely a top 100 rock album of all time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great album, a Bowie must have.
I bought this album having only heard "1984", and what a great album it turned out to be. This here is Bowie in his glam freakish deca-dance period, so you can imagine that the music sounds just like that, weird but glamorous. The only flaw I find is that the notes for "Sweet thing" are a little bit overstretched but thats not really an issue because it still makes a great song. Buy this and once you put it in your player make sure you have the volume down for the part after the intro, because it will blast your ears.

3-0 out of 5 stars A transitional album from Ziggy to the Thin White Duke, but where's the rock?
Diamond Dogs is somewhat problematic for me. It's a concept album, perhaps Bowie's most theatrical, that marked a turn of direction away from the Ziggy-glam period and hinted at the "plastic soul" era of Young Americans. But while there are some excellent songs on Diamond Dogs and the concept is good, there is a lot of show tune-like theatrical music that focuses too much on vocal stylings and bombast for my taste. Because some songs were written for the failed concept album 1984 might explain the change of direction and the mannerist quality to some of the more bombastic songs. But Diamond Dogs is also a document of it's time: Bowie was moving away from glam and rock and towards a different yet still theatrical aesthetic.

When I first bought and listened to this album, I thought "hmmm, lots of 'emo-labeled' bands." That didn't stop me from enjoying this soundtrack though. I liked the first two songs on this soundtrack quite a bit at first, but they got pretty old.
3-0 out of 5 stars OK,nothing more
This is an acceptable rock soundtrack. The songs are unmemorable,
