5-0 out of 5 stars A Solid, Underrated CD in the Zeppelin catalog
This album gets overlooked a lot when considering Led Zeppelin's greatest artistic achievements. True, Led Zeppelin IV is the standard by which hard rock recordings are judged, but this album is a wonderful sampling of what Led Zeppelin could do with various music styles and sounds. "The Song Remains the Same" is aptly titled, as it is a continuation of the hard rock for which Page, Plant, and company are justly celebrated.
5-0 out of 5 stars Led Zeppelin - 'Houses Of The Holy' (Atlantic/WEA)
Review no.262.Originally released in 1973,this was Zeppelin's fifth record.TALK about your 'album rock' classic. As I've heard a few Zeppelin supposed die-hards put down 'Houses...',this is no doubt one of their best works,at least I've always thought so.Every single one of the eight cuts here are considered to be sacred (if you'd call it that)to most Zep fans, late night radio listeners and old time hard rockers. From "The Song Remains The Same" to the melodic "Rain Song" to the beautifully written and played "Over The Hills And Far Away". Also remember in my teens, partying until wee hours in the morning to "No Quarter" and "the Ocean". Simply a MUST-have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Loose and Relaxed
Houses of the holy follows the same path as Led Zeppelin 4, however the approach is looser and much more relaxed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Zeppelin's only double studio album is also one of rock's best albums EVER!
Led Zeppelin's sixth album Physical Graffiti was released in February of 1975(coincidentally the same month my older brother was born).
5-0 out of 5 stars improves with time
This was a critically panned album when it first came out. Led Zep fans showed disappointment b/c this was much more diverse and challenging then the previously revved up blues and folk songs. Over time, the brilliance to this challenging album has fully emerged. 5-0 out of 5 stars Save me a slice
There is no greater impediment to the pursuit of happiness than a classic rock radio station but the other night I heard Kashmir on 104.3 FM and was reminded all over again of the truth of Otto's last words after he was swept out to sea. If this song isn't a massive inexorable force that advances irresistibly and crushes whatever is in its path I'll eat my copy of Webster's Seventh New Collegiate Dictionary. Kashmir is rightly celebrated for Jimmy Page's innovative chord progression guitar riff, not to mention that whole Asian/Arabic rhythm thing, but for me there's only one King of K Town and that man would be a maharajah named Peachey Carnehan. I mean Daniel Dravot. No wait, I mean John Henry Bonham. If there's a better example of controlled jackhammer percussion I'd like to hear it. Bonzo's all over the rest of this big-rig double album too and from Custard Pie to Sick Again the drummer from Redditch will embiggen your woofers and boggle your tweeters. Plant's no slouch here either but I guess that goes without saying. That's a good movie too though isn't it, The Man Who Would Be King? A brilliant performance by Michael Caine and almost certainly the best use of the word "trousers" in the history of motion pictures. I think if Rudyard Kipling were alive today he'd smoke Winston 100s, cycle a rusty old bicycle named Chivers and find a choice spot in his regular rotation for Physical Graffiti.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not enough of their non-hits that are still great songs
I was hoping to make do with a "best of" Three Dog Night, purchasing this CD so that I wouldn't have to replace all of my vinyl. But this is sadly lacking; an incomplete "complete hits" collection.I miss "Pieces of April""My old Kentucky Home" and other of the lesser knowns (still hits in my book) from their old albums. Also, not sure if the equipment on which I played it was off, but I didn't like the mix I got--the balance of high-midrange was too heavy and I wanted the crisp kick from a good treble and bass peak.Still its good to have around just for refreshing me on the lyrics during my alone-time sing-alongs at the top of my lungs. Just want better "back up."

5-0 out of 5 stars "Jeremiah was a bullfrog!..."
That is the unforgettable opening line of Three Dog Night's 1971 number one hit right there, "Joy to the World."

A working-class hero is something to be. Just ask Michigan native Bob Seger, whose R&B-based rock and poetically uncomplicated lyrics made him a less cerebral alternative to Bruce Springsteen. For those who want the studio album that comes closest to a greatest-hits package, you can hardly do better than this 1978 LP. The follow-up to the previous year's smash, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Great 1970s Rock Albums

I am not sure that "old time rock and roll" is a very good song anymore, because it hasn't aged well, but most everything else is good.stuff like "hollywood nights" "feel like a number" and the extraordinary "the famous final scene" make this a memorable album. Some of the songs don't sound that great anymore, but they are all pretty darn good and worth listening to.I recommend this cd to any fan of classic rock, it goes good with a lot of music. ... They still had plenty of covers to fill out the running time, but the Lennon-McCartney writing team was gathering steam and beginning to knock out pop classics as if they were pulling them out of thin air. "All My Loving" and "I Wanna Be your Man" come from this record, issued hurriedly to capitalize on English Beatlemania. But even when they were laying into some classic Chuck Berry, by this time the Beatles had acquired a unique sound in the blend of John's and Paul's voices, while George was coming on by leaps and bounds as a guitar player. While not absolutely essential, as a snapshot of a band in a place and time, Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Puffin, get your facts right
Obviously, Puffin has no idea what he's talking about. The album COVER was "Meet the Beatles" when it was released in the USA in the early days of Beatlemania but when it was released by the Fab 4 in Britain (as they wanted it released) it was "With the Beatles".Puffin, if you're going to act like a know-it-all, then get the facts straight

5-0 out of 5 stars On the cusp of the global Beatlemania epidemic...
The Beatles have now faded into legend. Future music historians will doubtlessly classify them as the most popular, innovative, and important rock group of the twentieth century. But the group that produced Sgt. Pepper, the White Album, and revolutionalized western culture began as a slick pop group that sang mostly love songs. In late 1963, when "With The Beatles" was released in England, the brunt of the British invasion had not yet pummelled America. In fact, the Beatles had released two full albums, "Please Please Me" and this one, by the time they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show in early 1964. Parlophone's American affiliate, Capitol, then blasted the album "Meet The Beatles" into the American market almost instantaneously. Though the albums share the same cover photograph, they remain very different albums. Thus began the dichotomy between the "American" releases and the "British" releases that would last all the way up to Sgt. Pepper (which supposedly led the band to protest with the controversial "butcher cover" in 1965).

History gives Steely Dan's Walter Becker and Donald Fagen the last, hearty laugh on this, the crown jewel in their remarkable canon of '70s Mensa pop.Sneaking onto the charts a half-decade earlier with sinuous, jazz-inflected "rock," the dysfunctional duo's acerbic, anti-heroic visions had been critically lauded for their band identity and killer guitar riffs, then promptly challenged when the two songwriters retired from the road, dissolved any formal band lineup, and used the studio as laboratory. Aja carried the added indignity of its increased focus on sophisticated jazz models and musicianship, which carried the Dan's ambitions even further in terms of suave harmonies, intricate song structures, and brilliant playing.Time has proven them wiser than their rock crit detractors: These seven songs abound in knotty plots, sneaky imagery, and drop-dead brilliant performances from a blue chip studio repertory studded with first-call jazz players epitomized by Wayne Shorter's towering solo on the title song. From the hard-boiled jazz romance of "Deacon Blues" to the twisted Homeric vamp of "Home at Last," the veiled but ominous swing of "Peg" to the sci-fi eroticism of "Josie," Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Steely Dan - Aja
Simply a must have for anyone appreciative of the soulful, jazzy, pop rock style and smooth lyrics of Steely Dan.This project employed some of the best musicians of their era, a who's who in the industry. Black Cow will have you wanting to sing along with the track. Steve Gadd's drum solo on Aja (track 2) provides an unprecedented transistion from the stylishly smooth groove to the high energy ending. Deacon Blues epitimizes the style that provided Steely Dan a world-wide following. Proceeded by Peg, Home At Last, I Got The News, and Josie; anyone missing out on this project is losing out on a piece of history. A collector's must have item.
5-0 out of 5 stars Year After Year
Ah, Steely Dan.Of all the music this eclectic band has made, this has to be the best. The title track puts you in another place where you can get lost in the music. Completely listenable, it's perfect for a long drive and you're sorry when it ends. That's the mark of good music and Steely Dan holds true, year after year.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vastly Underrated Masterpiece
Led Zeppelin, more than almost any other band, was a band that wasn't about individual songs, but entire albums. Each one of their albums tends to have a distinctive tone that sets it apart from the others.Shallow listeners perhaps didn't appreciate the direction Zeppelin had taken with this album, and while yes, it is true that the two blistering hard rockers here, Immigrant Song and Out On the Tiles, have nowhere near the depth of I and II's epic masterpieces, they are still adequate. And an "adequate" piece by Zeppelin standards is almost any other rock band's magnum opus.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Led Mine
Led Zeppelin is undoubtedly one of the best bands of all time and there is no argument with this album. There is real no weakness here like every other Zeppelin album. This is my personal favorite Zeppelin album and is just a classic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Remastered?
This is a great album. The only complaint I have is the remastering. About 2/3 through the song "Night Moves" there is a worbling in and out that sticks out like a sore thumb. It made me cringe. It sounded like a worn out cassette tape. I could've made a CD from an LP that would have sounded better than that mess. To me, it ruined the song. I'll have to listen from the greatest hits I suppose.

3-0 out of 5 stars Jimi Hendrix Experience falls short, just a little bit
Lots of good songs here, even a couple classics, but there's lots of filler as well. The Experiences debut album didn't have filler, or as much. The good news, the production of Axis: Bold As Love is better than the debut, but that's about it. The album cover isn't as good as the debut either.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Album!!!
I love this album!! I just started getting into Jimi Hendrix last year and this was the first album I heard from him.Every track on here is outstanding, but my favorites are "Spanish Castle Magic", "Wait Until Tomorrow", "If 6 was 9" "Aint No Tellin","Up from the Skies",and "One Rainy Wish".Really the WHOLE album is good, definetly worth the money.I have Electric Ladyland as well, but I prefer Axis:Bold as Love over it.A lot of the lyrics I dont understand, but this doesnt take away from the musical experience that Jimi, Noel, and Mitch provide for the listener.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT ALBUM
I was looking through the used section of a CD store one day, and every single CD in the used section was a terrible CD either un heard of, or some NOW CD or some crap like that, asi continued searching i saw a CD by Hendrix called AXis BOLD As love.Their was a sign that said all used cd's under $3 are 30 cents, Axis bold as love cost 30 cents.I knew something had to wrong. How could the jimi hendrix cd be cheaper than the now cd;s used ace base cds, Shi##Ty backstreet boys debut albums and sh#it like that.I was confused but i purchased it anyway b/c 30 cents is nothing.when i put the cd in the player i loved the album. Its an incredible album but it doesn't contian any hits like his previous album did.Its less heavy in my oppinion, but the songs are just great peices of work, and shows that hendrix is not just a great guitarist, but a great songwriter as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Unplugged: From "Friday Night" to Layla
The reviewer who noted that Clapton's songs are made fresher by being unplugged is right on! For me Clapton is one of founding fathers of electric guitar. His work in Cream is the subconscious. Here he is kinder and gentler, more subtle and, like a good wine, better than ever. I especially think this applies to the Johnson material (Malted Milk, Walkin' Blues). Let me note that the GODFATHER OF ALL UNPLUGGED events, ground zero for the whole phenomenon is also a guitar album, the best live one EVER recorded: FRIDAY NIGHT IN SAN FRANCISCO (Di Meola, McLaughlin, De Lucia). Buy it now.

Many people have heard of Eric Clapton's music. Some people love him and some people don't. I believe that this CD show's his true skill in music (Eric Clapton Unplugged). Eric Clapton displays his true dominance of the modern blues genre. I believe that Clapton is the best modern day blues musician because of his master of tone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good PF rocker on this one
AMLOR is a great PF album. I always enjoyed Floyd for the music rather than lyrics and so depart from the judgments of many of the Waters fans here. Floyd's progressive mix of R&B and dissonant guitar-driven sounds set them apart and it's on display here much more so than the followup Division Bell. This may be a Gilmour album in all but name, but that ain't necessarily a bad rap.

2-0 out of 5 stars Weak effort that has not aged well
Been a big PF fan for years since and recently revisited AMLOR - having seen the tour I had great hopes & memories of this album. After repeated listenings all I can say is that I'm disappointed. This CD has been pumped up and overrated on Amazon by hardcore PF fans. This is just not that good of a CD. There are some good songs on this album like 'Learning to fly', but overall a weak effort. I found myself hitting the next button more then listing to the album straight through. There is too much use of Pink's '5th man' in terms of sounds effects, which have added so nicely to their classic works, but only date this album signifcantly. This album is only for hardcore fans.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good, not great
I am a huge Pink Floyd fan. Though I like some tracks like learning to fly, the entire album sound feels a little tired and synthetic. Lyrically it feels a bit prissy and commercial at times (it's like a polished facsimile of earlier PF works). The 'contemporary feel' that others talk about is precisely what I don't like about this album.

3-0 out of 5 stars Against the Wind
The CD I got is a "digitally remastered" version of the original. It seems to me that they took the opportunity to smooth out the rough edges in Seger's voice, like the used to do to Roger Daltry.
4-0 out of 5 stars My favorite Seger CD. His zenith has you boppin.
From the beginning with "Horizontal Bop" to the closing with "Shining Brightly," Seger exceeds "Night Moves in quantity and quality. He got more radio play off of this CD, and from more stations. "Her Strut" is one of my favorite Seger songs. And "Fire Lake, Betty Lou, Accompany Me," and "Against The Wind" are all fabulous Seger classics, lyricallly and musically. I know there's lots of folks who say there wasn't much breadth to Seger's musical ability. But once you take Seger for what he's worth, judge him by his era, his contemporaries and what it is exactly he does best, it's hard to find any future or previous CDs by him that measure up to this one. Of course, there's also the immeasurable "nostalgia" that many have for this CD, not to mention the buiit in nostalgia Seger puts into most of his music and storytelling. I think it will stand the test of time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Against The Wind is a welcome sound for the Eighties
Having been a Bob Seger fan since the early seventies this album is in true form.Acompany Me has been my favorite, even more so then Old time Rock and Roll.Maybe I can still see Tom Cruise dancing on the couch in his underwear or maybe I just got tired of it.Anyway with songs like Against the Wind and Fire Lake are great. The one song that in my opinion is weak is Horizontal Bop. The first time I played this album I thought oh no the whole album is going to be like this......Nah.Whats nice now a days i can skip this track ......26 years later i'm still skipping.OVERALL: This is a great album its just Horizontal Bop is out of place. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars I Don't Hate It But I Don't See How It's the Bestselling Record
I personally think the Eagles, despite some good songs, are an overrated band. This album is the greatest-selling album of all time, so I guess I am a minority here if I think it's overrated. I like some of the songs, and I don't like others. Let me tell you my thoughts on the specific tracks:
5-0 out of 5 stars Blast from the past

5-0 out of 5 stars Seger's Smokin OP's
This is an excellent cd for any Seger fan, avid or not - good old fashioned R&R! Amazon service was quick, fast and hassle free.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Had A copy years ago and it was lost???
I was delighted that it was released again. It has always been one
5-0 out of 5 stars Second Time Around (On CD)
This is a great album as all the reviewers have already said. There is not much I can add to what they have said, except that no one seems to remember that this CD and 3 others have been released before. They are Mongrel, Ramblin' Gamblin' Man, Seven, and Smokin' O.P's. They were out in '92 or '93. They went out of print pretty fast. I have these and the new version of S.O.P.'s. It definetly sounds better with the new remastering. "Back in '72" was listed in Ice Magazine for release on 8-16-05 but it didn't happen. Must have been pushed back. That album has never been released on CD, so it will be a welcome addition to my collection. Hopefully, the powers-that-be will see fit to re-release the others with the new remastered sound which is superior to the first go rounds. Also, I vaguely remember seeing "Noah" on vinyl years ago, but I don't recall much about it. I was really looking forward to the "Back in '72" CD. I found a good copy of it on vinyl a few months ago and transferred it to my computer which sounds o.k. My favorite is "Rosalie" which Thin Lizzy covered much to the original way Bob did it.....Heavy Music, Indeed!! ... Read more

Greatest-hits collections often deprive the listener of the chance to experience an artist's true scope of talent. Not so with Steve Miller--his strength has always been more in crafting an occasional blast of FM-radio heaven rather than a dozen solid album tracks.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars YES,YES,YES,YES,YES
I JUST LOVE STEVE MILLER.I THINK THAT JOKER AND FLY LIKE AN EAGLES ARE ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER.STEVE MILLER IS AN EXTREMELY GOOD GUITARIST AND ANYDAY BETTER THAN MARK KNOPFLER AND SLASH.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Music
I was in Jr. High School when most of Steve Miller Band's Hits were popular. The music sounds as good today as they did some 30 years ago. I love The Joker and I think our radio station here in town plays it more than any other song by SMB. Another good song is Serenade. I love the guitar work on this song as well as Jet Airliner. Fly Like An Eagle is also a very good song with some fine guitar work. Rock 'N' Me is a very mellow song that my friends and I used to sing to a lot and we knew every word. Steve Miller Band was one of the most popular bands of the 70's. My favorite song on this CD is Take The Money And Run. It is about two teenagers in love and they have nothing better to do than steal money from a bank or store and they keep running from the law and as the song says, they are still running today.
4-0 out of 5 stars This is just the commercial hits
It is too bad that so many people's view of the Steve Miller Band centers around this album.First off, there isn't enough space on a CD to truly contain all of Steve's best work.
