4-0 out of 5 stars A Great CD For Those Who Already Know 60's Rock
I have never written a review before on this site but couldn't help myself when I saw the rather absurd single review postedup until now about "Daytrippers".If you are looking for an introduction to 60's rock, better to get something a little more commercial like the "Forrest Gump" soundtrack. If on the other hand you were actually alive in the 60's and already know the music from that era, this is a great collection of lesser-known gems and/or interesting nuggets. The comment by the other reviewer that the sound quality is poor is, again, relative. The sound is fairly typical for 60's rock, not terrible and not great.I would definitely recommend this collection for anyone who likes 60's rock but is tired of the re-treads played over and over on classic rock radio stations.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid this set
This is so poor it is laughable. Some of the tracks seem to be live bootleg, sound quality is generaly very poor throughout. Some big names here but don't get fooled as they are lesser known tracks and some of the artists you will ask, who? A low price point for a low quality set.You can find tracks by these artists elsewhere with much better production. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Yet another compilation of undeservedly obscure rock howlers
The PEBBLES series, which doesn't really pick up speed until Vol. 7 (CHICAGO VOL. 2, which Amazon doesn't carry for some reason but is essential listening), continues with SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, gathering together rare 45 singles and acetates of garage bands and high school rock groups from Sacramento to San Diego, with plenty of small towns hit in-between. 2 of the songs, "Knock Knock" by The Humane Society (without a doubt one of the best unheard songs of the 60s) and "Hold Me Now" by The Rumors (which I dare you not to rock out to), are included on the NUGGETS boxed set, but they're surrounded by so many amazing gems here that this volume simply cannot be passed over.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars As Years Go By
It was a 2 CD album. The CD that had the song I wanted to hear was damaged.

2-0 out of 5 stars Like listening to a bunch of bar bands
The best tribute albums take the originals and put a new twist on them. It can be interesting to hear familiar songs transformed by musicians from different backgrounds and genres. This album just sounds like a bunch of Stones wannabe bands trying their damnedest to sound just like Mick and the boys. They're not, for the most part, bad; if I saw them out at a bar some night I'd probably enjoy it. But it doesn't make for a good album. I mean, what's the point?

4-0 out of 5 stars eclectic kinda alt-country feel to many of the cuts, not bad
Unlike the scathing reviews, let's admit that it's plain hard to murder a good stones songs!I tend to cllect Tribute Albums as I find them floating in cut out bins but this one has its moment s and charm. As I mentioned in my title, there's a late-80's techno edge to many of the cuts but don't let that stop you.Oh, drop ten bucks, nurse some jack Daniels and try if you can to keep up with these real bands on your beach guitar before you sling barbs at them. This is a fun record for a lazy day.My dog and I take it to the beach and sit back as the sun sets groovin' to the tunes we love so well that are just off-kilter enough in their performances to bring a few stares from the joggers. What better way to kill an afternoon?Mick and Keith would most likely be amused.buy it.... as a stones comepletists you might be compelled anyway. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars DON'T BOGART THIS DISC
FEEL THE BUZZ-SPACIN': If you'll pardon the pun, this is a clever "pot-pourri" put out by Polygram (one of several, actually) concerning America's fave pastime, and I don't mean hittin' the horsehide. Such classic psychedelic fare as Donovan's MELLOW YELLOW (and, by way of Vanilla Fudge, his SEASON OF THE WITCH), Love's frenzied freak-out 7 AND 7 IS, the single length edit of Iron Butterfly's IN-A-GADDA-DA-VIDA, and one shot garage band Count Five's PSYCHOTIC REACTION are just some of the "hits" here. You also get to ingest Hoyt Axton's anti-drug anthem THE PUSHER from Steppenwolf, the smokey haze of Commander Cody's SEEDS AND STEMS (AGAIN), and John Prine's tongue (and maybe something else) in cheek ILLEGAL SMILE. This is high grade stuff. Indulge thyself. RATING: FIVE TOKES

This cd really sucks. My hillbilly junkie uncle Kevin Padgett of Heber Spring's Arkansas would love it though.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bottom of the barrel garage/punk compilation
After some really top-notch installments of the PEBBLES series, Vol. 10 is a major let-down. None of the songs really register as good rock tunes; they all sound identical to each other. The two really awesome tracks are by Leather Boy, "I'm a Leather Boy" and "On the Go", which show that insanity really was alive and well in the New York City area in 1967. Other semi-interesting tracks include The Bold's "Gotta Get Some" and The Silver Fleet's "Look Out World" (an obvious re-working of "Gloria").4-0 out of 5 stars More Great Pebbles
It's great to see these in print on CD,but I favor the original LP series for a few different reasons. First, this stuff was meant to be heard on RECORDS,and most of it comes from the 45's themselves,no original masters here!! Second the running order of the CD's are messed up,on this collection you get a mixture of I think Vol.'s 8,10,11 & 13 if I remember correctly. I think they should have done 2 LP volumes per disc and released them in order, you know 1 & 2 on a disc,3 & 4 on the next for some consistency. But you can't complain about the music,it's primo obscure teenage chaos all the way,no matter which one you pick up. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!!
I have just received this CD from Amazon and have found that, even though the names of the bands are all the same, the songs are NOT the original recordings - they are re-makes. On the back of the CD jacket, in colored writing that partially blends in with the background color, in text so small that neither my wife nor I could read it without a magnifying glass, positioned at the very bottom on the back where you would normally only find manufacturing and copyright information, is the message:Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars If you like rare stuff, try this.
Some had talents and some ain't got it. The Fe Fi 4 Plus 2, The Lincoln St. Exit, The Lemon Drops, The Bluethings had potentials, just wondering why they didn't make it big. There were nice attempts to duplicate Yardbirds' For Your Love, Music Machine's Talk Talk, but the Kinks' Well Respected-Man was butchered by Yesterday' Children. Rare groups and some never heard songs worth listening to, at least once. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars "Free Bird" and a strange little collection of 70's songs
What a strange little collection of songs from the Seventies. There are only ten tracks on "Rockin' 70's, Volume 2" but one of them is "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, which is one of the longer tracks out there (it is the original studio recording).Lynyrd Skynyrd gets two bites of this particular aple with "What's Your Name" as well. There is an effort to cover the decade, beginning with one of the last hits by Steppenwolf, "Hey Lawdy Mama," and getting all the way to the disco madness of "Car Wash" by Rose Royce. You have pop represented by Three Dog Night's "An Old Fashion Love Song" and Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds's "Don't Pull Your Love Out" while R&B is reduced to "Keeper of the Castle" by the Four Tops. The point is you probably already have the good stuff (and probably multiple version of "Free Bird") so the question is whether you are nostalgic for one hit wonders like Bo Donaldson & the Heywoods with "Billy Don't Be a Hero."There are songs by Dave Mason and ELO here as well, but not the ones that would help make this CD attractive.I do not think you will find five songs here that you do not already have that you would want to add to your music library.

2-0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware.
Having been intrigued by this disc for quite some time, I finally went out and bought it.The main reason this disc looked appealing was the Pigpen/Janis duet. However, in the end, I shouldn't have bought this disc. There is a LOT of background noise to the songs on this disc, though thesong selection is superb.Read more

I had a great review - long, thoughtful, funny, but when you goback to check a title/artist, Amazon.com looses your review! Not cool Amazon.com! Anyway, Trust me. This album is great.I went to high school 1976 - 1980 in a suburb of Detroit. If you lived near or went to school around that time - you'll remember all these classics by heart. This album flushes out the era, with true classic rock from the early 70's throughout and especially the end of the decade, which is hard to find on compilation sets. ... Read more
