4-0 out of 5 stars A nice collection, but a little short.
This collection has 10 familiar songs. The true find is "Here Comes Summer" by Jerry Keller. This song is hard to find, but tells of true love separated by summer vacation. "I Saw Her Again Last Night"by the Mamas and Papas is one that is not anthologized too often."Beach Baby" is a three minute blast of pure innocence. And whocan forget Tommy Roe's "Sweet Pea." The sound is also good, considering the age of the music. The only drawback is that, at 10 songs, there is plenty of room on the disc for other songs. Still, it is a discfor the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Here Comes Summerby Jerry Paul Keller
Jerry is my cousin.I haven't seen him since 1965. But my two favorite songs he did was Bee Bee Baby and Faster the Better. He also played back up guitarist for Dibbie Boone in the song You Light Up My Life.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Join Capt. Groovy and his Bubblegum Army
This CD describes itself as "the ultimate collection of pure pop music".That description is more accurate than the title "Bubblegum Classics".The compilers of this collection seem to have catagorized any lightweight pop song as "bubblegum".To me, "bubblegum" specifically refers to the productions of Jerry Kasenetz & Jeff Katz, plus a few other songs that imitate their signature sound.Having said that, this is a good collection of lightweight pop songs. The super rare "Capt. Groovy and his Bubblegum Army" is worth the price of the CD by itself.Recommended for fans of pure pop music.

4-0 out of 5 stars fun stuff
I have all 5 volumes of the Bubblegum Classics series. The first three are AM pop from late 60's early 70's. I certainly wouldn't consider all the songs "bubblegum", but they do all have a degree of youthfulinnocence. Some of the songs were hits in England, but not in the US; someare obscure non-hits.4-0 out of 5 stars Nice collection of 60s bubblegum balances familiar & obscure
I bought this just to get a clean copy of the Edison Lighthouse's"Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Grows)."It's one of a number of1970- 71 songs that form the foundation of my real entry to top-40 radiolistenership, and my original 45 was just about gone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dazzling sound quality, Insightful docomentation, and a Rari
There's little point in telling you if "The British Invasion (The History of British Rock)" is "good" or "bad." That would be pretty silly: you'requite capable of reading the track list for yourself, and making thatdetermination. What you will find with each of these discs is exceptionalaudio quality, superb packaging and documentation, and an historicalmusical surprise.4-0 out of 5 stars What are you guys complaining about? This disc is great...
Actually this whole series is awesome.Looking at Vol. 5 in particular, though, I'm seeing 4 U.S. #1 hits, by the Tornados, Pet Clark, the Mindbenders, and Donovan.Pretty diverse.Rhino circumvents Capitol'soppressive licensing restrictions to bring us 2 hard-to-find, early Beatlessingles recorded for other labels.(The other reviewers are right, however.Using Ringo's pic is misleading since he wasn't in the groupthen.) There are goodies by the three grand dames of British rock--Pet,Dusty Springfield (get her solo albums too), and Lulu. For pure rockclassicism, if there is such a thing, there are 2 (count 'em) by Them. That's Van Morrison to most of us (but the drummer on "Gloria,"likely Patrick McAuley, deserves equal credit). And the Moody Blues, before they went all symphonic, with "Go Now!", which they leftoff their first twelve greatest hits albums. You know you need "It'sNot Unusual", kitsch of the highest order and I think the only TomJones hit on this whole series. One of the long-term pleasures of thisseries is the one- and two-hit wonders like Georgie Fame, the Bachelors, and the Big Three. In all seriousness, these make the series invaluable. True pop music fans should be buying the Beatles, Stones, and Who albumsseparately anyway; those groups' absences leave room for the lost classicsthat Rhino specializes in preserving on discs like this one. This mix ofmelodic rock and pop and, umm, Chad and Jeremy needs to be owned byeveryone.

3-0 out of 5 stars Where is Pete Best?
This compilation features a five star Beatle track called A'int She Sweet, with Pete Best on drums. What in the heck Ringo Starr is doing on the album cover is anybody's guess. I thought that the people at Rhino records weresupposed to be acurate rock historians. The rest of the album is filler. Irecommend The Beatles Anthology One instead. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars After all these years, this music still has power
During my college days in the Viet Nam era, I heard these songs over and over. The song, "One Tin Soldier" was so powerful it moved me to tears and listening to it on this CD elicited the same response all these years later. The track, "War", another powerful song elicited the same emotions, this time around, that I felt upon its first release. All the other songs brought back memories, too; some painful, some wonderful. This is, by far, one of the best combinations of various artists that I have listened to and I'm very happy that I purchased the CD. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not enough Skynyrd
I'd just like to say that there just aint enough Skynyrd on this compilation. I do like The Allman Brothers Band but one song from the Skynyrd, the greatest southern rock band of all time come on. And why is it that on all these "southern rock" or "classic rock" compilations for Skynyrd they always put in songs like Sweet Home Alabama or Free Bird? I love those songs (especially Free Bird) but they're getting played out and that does no good for the band. They should put songs like The Needle and the Spoon on there.

2-0 out of 5 stars Without Molly Hatchet & Blackfoot...you ain't got much.
Anytime you overlook Molly Hatchet & Blackfoot when your talking Southern Rock, you overlook a major portion of the hard drivin, butt thumpin down south style.

3-0 out of 5 stars 2/3 great songs 1/3 stiffs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not great sound quality, but that's not the point
This sounds like a bunch of friends who got together and made some demos for a few days that never got polished...I like it.It's rough around the edges, but interesting for fans.

3-0 out of 5 stars A must for Mountain fans
Altough it is not typically rock album Mountain fans will be satisfied with three members of the group playing on it. A very rare video with Felix Pappalardi is worthy every dollar you spent. The Outsider should be in every rock history collection. It was great idea to find and put those recordings on CD. Three stars for rock fans, five stars for Mountain fans.

3-0 out of 5 stars not bad, but it could've been better
I'm going to cut right to the chase here. Some covers on this album are wonderful, while others leave a lot to be desired.
5-0 out of 5 stars Byng Yn Skynyrd Byys
I think Alabama's version of "Sweet Home Alabama" is still sweating like a dog. Randy Owen said on this lyrics "Hey, Huntsville, Fly Me to the Moon, Real Soon." Terry McBride said if two boys quit and four were new on this set called "Saturday Night Special."

3-0 out of 5 stars It could have been better....
When I first bought the cassette seven years ago I thought I would love to hear these artists cover Skynyrd classics. But now I realize that there are three songs that sound nothing like the originals....Alabama's version of Sweet Home Alabama, Wynonna's version of Free Bird and The Mavericks' version of Call Me The Breeze. 5-0 out of 5 stars very happy
I ordered the disc for my boyfriends birthday I recieved an email that it may not get here until weeks later I recieved it the day of THANK YOU.

4-0 out of 5 stars The fire of the first album returns.
Some hot tracks here! Unlike the mellowed out album "Woodstock 2," this 3rd general Woodstock album brings back some of the fire of the first album. "Love City" is intense soul, with Sly at his rockin' best. "Somebody To Love" is unrecognizable until it hits the chorus, but it totally cooks, with Grace Slick's soaring voice sliding in and out of the rock guitars. "Southbound Train" has a very powerful rock sound, with terrific guitar sustain on the lead solo. Other tracks didn't impress me nearly as much--a lot of cover tunes, ballads, and sleeze. "Blackbird" is sweet with all its vocal harmonies. "If I Were A Carpenter" has Tim Hardin's voice breaking constantly, maybe intended, maybe not, but very distracting nevertheless. However, I definitely recommend this album for its high points.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good sampler of previously unreleased Woodstock tracks
In 1994, for the 25th anniversary of the Woodstock festival, this budget CD was released, as well as the brown-covered boxed set (which I will not review here).WOODSTOCK DIARY came and went with little fanfare, but is worth seeking out, as it contains several tracks that can be found nowhere else. Most of the music is very good, especially the pair of Joe Cocker tunes (Let's Get Stoned and I Shall Be Released), Richie Havens (I Can't Make It Anymore), Janis Joplin (Try and Ball & Chain). 5-0 out of 5 stars 30 Seconds Before the Calico Wall is excellent!
To get a feel for the whole psychedelic music scene of 1966-67, this album delivers.Music was changing and this album reflects the changes (largely influenced by "mind-expanding" drugs (ha!)) One excellent slice of psychedelia is song "Apothecary Dream" by the Sound Sandwich (evidently a band out of Burbank, CA).Way ahead of it's time; excellent vocals with moving harmonies, and great playing by the band members, especially that budding guitarist. There are other choice pieces pulled out of time and put on this album - it will entertain you and, if you are from the era, it may even take you back down memory lane. Then again, they say if you can remember the '60s, you weren't there.Great album.

5-0 out of 5 stars An absolutely excellent one-off.
I really love Arf Arf's garage releases, and this one is certainly no exception. Several stunning mostly-60's garage tracks, cleaned up (for the most part) amazingly...it's all great, and there's really something for everyone, from the freak-out "I Wanna Hold your Hand" to "Love In" (which sounds suspiciously like two Fugs songs). If you like Nuggets and Pebbles, this will certainly be a delight. ... Read more
