5-0 out of 5 stars It's all there
From the very first track, the sixties are back, and it's like they never went away.
5-0 out of 5 stars Makes me think of incense and tie-dye!
Having been a child in that era and just discovering rock music, this really brings back some memories from that part of my life.
4-0 out of 5 stars Back to the 60's when people spoke up
Album has many of the songs that I remember from this period.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of us do remember the past
The movie was great so how could the soundtrack be anything less. The characters dressed and acted just like my friends and I did during that time period and certainly listened to the same music.Though I was an adult rather than a student the era was the same.I am so pleased with the soundtrack it never leaves my CD wallet.Anyone who loves the rock of the late 70s and very early 80s will be glad they bought this album. The best artists, terrific songs, a good time will be had by all.

4-0 out of 5 stars You're better at that than I am.
My soul reaches out to those who have had substance abuse problems. This movie touches on this subject with touching sincerity and heartfelt distress. The movie begins with a child trapped in the body of an older man.He tries to free the ego of a man whose life he saved in a previous karmic cycle but for him there is no salvation. While this manchild flees to civilization in hopes of finding a Bodhisattva the karmic cycle continues its unending rotation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack to one of the greatest movies ever!
After my first viewing of "Dazed" at the age of 15, I became absolutely obsessed with the film, and soon bought the movie on DVD. I've watched it so many times since, I've lost count, and it quickly became one of my favorite movies of all time. It has awesome dialogue (Slater's story of how George Washington was in a cult who were into aliens is CLASSIC!), hilarious scenes (I love the "trash cans meet mailboxes" scene, cracks me up every time), great characters (Don Dawson, Wooderson, Slater, Pink), excellent acting (by all of the cast), and most of all, KICK A** MUSIC! This was one of those rare films where the soundtrack CD sales out performed the movies box office sales, but the movie is still great!

For the price, you can't go wrong here. However, I feel compelled to respond to the previous reviewer's challenge.
4-0 out of 5 stars Inaccurate track info?
Maybe I have a one and only, but track #11 is not Sweet Home Alabama. On my disc it is Lola by The Kinks.

2-0 out of 5 stars Big Steamy Cow Patty
Best of the 1970's "Supergroups"? This is the best group of songs they could come up with? Music from bands like Boston, Kansas, Styx, ELO, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Santana and BTO are great choices. But, who in their right frame of mind would consider Grand Funk, Rare Earth, Sugarloaf, or the Little River Band as "Supergroups"? Okay, the Little River Band had several hits, but they certainly weren't "Super". Some of these bands are so dang obscure that I could DARE most of America to name ONE other hit from half the bands on this disc, and I'd bet they'd pull a brain muscle and hemmorhage trying to do it. 14 total tracks. 7 songs are worthy classics, but the other 7 totally miss the boat. If I were producing a disc with these songs, I definitely would not have used the label "Supergroups". Perhaps a more apt title for this CD would be "Poor Man's Hit & Miss Tunes From The 70's". Sound production is less than crisp. Makes a nice drink coaster. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars ORIGINAL CASTE's
For all the hoopla and erroneous credit the band "Coven" got in the early 70's for their much latter version, they did not release the 1st and original hit version of "ONE TIN SOLDIER". It was recorded and issued in 1969 by a Canadian group, THE ORIGINAL CASTE, and it was they who actually recorded the more definitive, superior and memorable version still played on Oldies radio stations to this day. This has caused much confusion with music fans of the song over the years. Coven recorded a "cover version" of the song which was used by Warner Brothers for their "BILLY JACK" movie at the time, as it made sense to use a band's version that was also signed to the label, therefore Coven recieved the lion's share exposure/promotion twice over for "ONE TIN SOLDIER", but their scaled down smaller band version is actually the weaker of the two. THE ORIGINAL CASTE version is more orchestrated and well balanced around Dixie's up front and centered impassioned vocal affair by far. The ORIGINAL CASTE was started as the "North Country Singers" in 1966. They changed their name to "The Original Caste" in 1969. It was a group of five people with the married couple of Bruce and Dixie Lee Innes at its core.
5-0 out of 5 stars A mellow stroll down memory lane!!!
As a lover of music from the 60's and 70's, I found this CD to be a lasting tribute to those artists whose musical talents unfortunately did not take them to the recognition beyond the single hits they will always be remembered for. Who can ever forget the 60's without remembering the summer of love's classic "Reach out in the Darkness," or the 70's without the summertime masterpiece "Montego Bay?" Artists such as Friend and Lover and Booby Bloom might not be household names, but the musical hits that they performed should bring back pleasant memories to the children of that era.
3-0 out of 5 stars Hard to find songs

This soundtrack is absolutly amazing...
4-0 out of 5 stars Better Than the First!
I actually like this one better than the first release. It's a great, eclectic mix of FM radio hits from the golden age of FM radio.(I was 15 in the summer of 1976, so maybe I'm a little biased.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Another excellent soundtrack for a great movie!
"Dazed and Confused" is a film that unfortunately bombed at the box office when it was in theatres. Fortunately, it has since become a cult classic, and one of the definitive "party" flicks. It helped jump start the careers of the film's soon-to-be stars, such as: Ben Affleck, Parker Posey, Matthew McConaughey, Rory Cochrane, Jason London, and Milla Jovovich, to name a few. I first saw "Dazed" when I was 15. I heard how great of a film it was, so of course I decided to check it out. By the end of my first viewing, I was hooked. I became obsessed with the movie, and have seen it so many times that I've lost count, and it's still fresh and hilarious with every viewing (which is rare for a film)! It has become one of my favorite movies of all time, as well.

They definately are wonders. Wonderful that is. Great cd, bought for our DJ biz, but it seems to end up in my car alot!
5-0 out of 5 stars Back for more
Vol. 2 of Bartley's anthology of one-hit wonders isn't quite as consistently good as the first, but it's still a fine balance of obscuros and hard-to-find well-known hits. It was great to have Robert Knight's original '66 version of "Everlasting Love" at my fingertips, for example, as well as Merilee Rush's "Angel of the Morning."
4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Early Fathers Day Gift !
As a proud owner of my music collection; I made up my mind about fifteen months ago to venture out and try to find CDs to replace several of my old 45s, Albums and 8 tracks that have been long gone from my collection for many years and I am very satisfied with my accomplishments because except for a few; I have succeeded. I am amazed at how many of those old 45s, Album and 8 Track compilations that are out there on CD and with this, Dick Bartley's presents one hit wonders of the 60s; Vol. 2, I replaced a hefty amount of my old 45s. The McCoy's 60s classic, Hang On Sloopy, Derek's, Cinnamon, Mercy's beautiful version of, Love (Can Make You Happy), Merrilee Rush & The Turnabout's original version of, Angel Of The Morning, and Crazy Elephant's,Gimme Gimme Good Lovin', were all songs I had on 45s from many years ago and there are a few others on this disc to my liking also and two of them are, Morning Girl, and, Expressway To Your Heart. This Vol. 2 is very good from start to finish and I think the sound quality on this disc is superb. If you are a 60s music fan there isn't but one thing to do and that's Buy it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
I love this CD.It has all of the best music from the 70's. I am so glad I added it to my collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars More like "Some 70's".
If there's one thing harder to do than narrow down the 80's to one disc, it's doing that to the 70's. The truth is this collection could have had 400 different songs on it. Why these made the cut, who knows. I'll agree that most of these would be considered classic, but I think the average person is gonna already own a third of this disc, not care about a third, and be sick of the other third. I guess if you kept your CD collection under 20 discs, then this might do the trick. Good for a party, sure. Overall though, I'd probably just get an album from Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, or The Eagles. Where are they?

This CD brings me to (good) tears every time I hear it!The music is beautiful in its simplicity. These are true legends at their finest. The fact that their hearts are open to this wonderful cause only adds to their talent and the strength of the music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it!
First. It helps if you like acoustic guitar.Second.Even if you don't you won't be able to find any other CD that even comes close to capturing the raw talent of some of today's legends.I can't help thinking that NeilYoung tells all of the performers to "keep it simple".Vocalsand a guitar work wonders with these kids. Tom Petty's guitar work isastounding, Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders) vocals are pure, Simon &Garfunkel...wow, Pearl Jam...I'm now a fan, listen closely and Neil say'sit best..."Elvis (Costello) you're a genius!", the best song inmy opinion is Nils Lofgren. It's simply elegant. I came here to writethis because I love music and this is the best album I have EVER purchased! Please Neil...MORE! I'll be sending a donation.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wildly uneven but essential all the same
This box set ultimately represents a missed opportunity. It could have and should have been the ultimate collection of Garage-Punk classics and yet so much of it is substandard and unlistenable. Many of the recordings here are little more than copies of more famous bands' works. It has often been said by aficionados of this genre that out of every 100 copy-cat records of the mid-60s that offered little more than pure derivation, there was always one record that was blindingly transcendent. The search is perpetually on to discover that one record.Sadly, this set contains too many of the remaining 99.

Editorial Review

In addition to raising public consciousness about the dangers of nuclear power, the 1979 series of star-studded anti-nuclear concerts at Madison Square Garden were a significant event both musically and historically. The shows were immortalized in a feature film and on this 2 CD set. Among those featured on the album are such '70s soft-rock icons as Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, Carly Simon, the Doobie Brothers, and Crosby, Stills and Nash, along with Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Ry Cooder, and Gil Scott-Heron for a token dose of grit. Inevitably, Springsteen's "Devil with the Blue Dress Medley" steals the show, but otherwise Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to rate it higher
I really liked this when it came ut on vinyl, but in retrospect, it was the cause, not the music. B. Raitt is grand, G Nash with an excellant Cathedral, J C Young, and the highlight to me We Almost Lost Detroit by the great Gil Scott-Heron. But the second disc is second rate. Edit the filler and it rates higher.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming thoughts of childhood
As a child of the 70's who grew up in a very "no nukes" home this album was on the turn table every night. What a great find for me all these years later as I start my own family."Power" is one of the nicest, smoothest, most heartwarming songs every performed.
4-0 out of 5 stars fighting fission with fusion
I suppose just about anyone could find a reason to give a listen to the 'No Nukes' recordings. For many, some of the earliest and most blistering live tracks from Bruce Springsteen, still on his career ascent, which are offered here are reason enough to own these discs, even if he shares CD space with Chaka Khan.Others may find their appeal in the workmanlike presence of Graham Nash, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, and The Doobie Brothers, who perform solo and are all over the place singing duets and background for other performers willing to ante-up in the fight against fission.Despite my own appreciation for Crosby, Stills and Nash, what really caught my eye here was what amounts to a cameo appearance by Gil Scott-Heron, offering up one of his finest moments (and as a Detroiter one I can readily identify with) on the ominous yet funkified 'We Almost Lost Detroit'.Next to 'Johannasburg' this is my favorite Gil Scott-Heron composition.Unfortunately, it appears on a wonderful, but unreleased CD Scott-Heron produced in 1977 with Brian Jackson, 'Bridges'.It tells a slightly overblown tale about a malfunction at one of the two Fermi nuclear plants near Detroit. While the mishap could have theoretically progressed into a full-blown meltdown, the generator was quickly shut down and catastrophe was readily averted. So while it didn't come close to producing a Chernobyl, it did produce one funky protest song, and Scott-Heron gives it an inspired treatment on 'No Nukes'

4-0 out of 5 stars An interesting collection of songs from the Seventies
You are not going to find more of a mixed bag of songs from the Seventies than you will on this album.Any CD that brings together the Knack's "My Sharona" with Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy" is stretching the musical spectrum to its limits.Like the companion volume of this 70's series, Volume 2 offers up a few songs that quickly became annoying from that decade such Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling" (Oo-ga-chaka, oo-ga, oo-ga).But you also get the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band doing their version of "Mr. Bojangles" which has always been a beautifully elegant song.Actually, one of the defining elements of this album are the cover songs. The odds are probably in your favor that you will find five or more tracks you would like to add to your music collection, which would make this CD worth having around. Yes, everybody should have a copy of Ike & Tina Turner doing their immortal cover of "Proud Mary," but that is certainly available on lots of better hits collections than this one. ... Read more

Encomium:Tribute to Led Zeppelin.
4-0 out of 5 stars A very solid tribute CD. I was definately surprised.
I lost this CD a few months ago, but I used to listen to it occasionally. Most of the songs on this disc are very good, but for my money, the best track on here is "Thank You" performed by Duran Duran. I really don't like Duran Duran so I was pretty surprised by that. Most of the other tracks are good too. If you like Zep, this is definately a disc to check out if you are looking for something different.

4-0 out of 5 stars Caution! "Legs" & "Heat of the Moment" Shortened
Strong overall song selection however....some songs are noticeably shortened. At a minimum, both "Legs" (ZZ Top) and Asia's "Heat of the Moment" had about the last 30 seconds sliced off.

5-0 out of 5 stars First real rock n roll compilation in the "70's" list!
Now this is a find...a real rock n roll assortment of hit tracks by the now classic artists we grew up with. This is a mighty meaty blend...if you ignore the "Sister Golden Hair" track by America. That band lost it after their first album, as have a number of would be rockers. Remember the Chicago Transit Authority?
5-0 out of 5 stars A great classic rock CD
If you love classic rock, you'll never want to be without this CD.I've bought this CD more times than I can count for friends, family, etc. - as soon as they hear it they love it.It's great for driving or gettingpumped up. Definitely one of the best Classic Rock CDs with the top songsfrom the 70s. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This four-disc album--like the famed August 1969 rock festival it chronicles--is something of a sprawling, disorderly, engaging mess. Issued as a box set 25 years after the counterculture tribal gathering, it amasses the original three-record Read more

Needed the Woodstock feel and sound. Missing the Grateful Dead. How can they leave out the greatest band in the land!!!!! The rest is fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Woodstock:25th Anniversary
I am happy with this purchase. I was too young to be there, but this took me back to some awesome artist's performances. Even my own kids are enjoying it, even though they never heard of Woostock.

3-0 out of 5 stars It Could Have Been a Contender
Several CDs and DVDs are available that cover Woodstock.I still recall listening to the first vinyl album from Woodstock.I was impressed at the time, inadequate as that first recording was. There have been other attempts at capturing the Woodstock experience, each with their own successes and failures.I thought that a boxed set commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Woodstock would have been something that a fan of 60s cutting edge music would be a requirement for my collection.I was wrong.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not much variety found here, but still a good compilation...
It's unfair to criticise this compilation CD for it's lack of content because it's available at such a low-price.Still, only boasting *nine* tracks makes you wonder if Priority Records actually took this album seriously. It's wrong to label this a 'rock' collection too as there's a lot of different musical styles to be found on "The Best Of 70s Rock Chart Toppers".No-one could ever class 10CC, Bonnie Tyler, Gary Glitter and Foreigner as being the 'same'.Even so, this is a worthwhile purchase, and despite my minor criticisms, this CD comes recommended.5-0 out of 5 stars what u see is what u get!

3-0 out of 5 stars help
i would love to know a song missing on the cd of the movie "the 60's" it sounds like " i cant find my way home " my e-mail is aztecprince440@yahoo.com

2-0 out of 5 stars Why these songs?
"A Music Fan" says he only knew one of these songs?!! What cave has he been living in?? His gross lack of music knowlege is scary! You can do better than this compilation - Too few songs and chosen rather arbitrarily. The songs are classics though. Still can't believe previous reviewer didn't know "Sounds of Silence", "Pretty Woman", etc. --- How sad!

2-0 out of 5 stars skip it
This is definately not the 60's compilation CD to get. Who was in charge of choosing the songs on this boring album anyway? I bought it for Van Morrisson, and was not familiar with any of the other songs but one. They weren't good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Goodness! What's all the stink about?
I ordered this CD without reading the reviews...then went back and read them.I got so nervous, then I listened to some of the tracks. What is all the stink about?!Little variations are obvious in some songs and not so obvious in others--but at least the songs are performed by the original artists.I think some are a bit more acoustic than others which is great because now you can actually hear separate, distinct instruments instead of muffled background music. It's a nice change from what you hear on the radio every day, and the songs sound enough like the original recordings to enjoy them--with the addition of little twists. This CD is a very novel addition to my CD collection, and I absolutely love the variety of songs on it!I'd recommend it to anyone--just remember to be broad-minded and open-eared...

3-0 out of 5 stars nostalgic collection
For some, the summer of 1967 was a special moment in time.Briefly, optimism and idealism combined with youthful enthusiasm to create a feeling than change was happening all around and that anything was possible.Songs from this collection fairly represent some of the feeling of that time.
4-0 out of 5 stars If you want it, you've got it!
This is a high quality compilation for those who really dig this genre of music.Personally, I bought the CD just for the two gorgeous songs "San Francisco" and "Love is All Around."Either one of those would be worth the price of the CD, but there are lots of classics included.A few of the tracks don't seem to stand the test of time particularly well, but may be worthwhile to those who have an historical interest.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!FLOWER POWER AT ITS BEST.
The maturity of the senior tracks(San Francisco, Love is all Around, San Franciscan Nights, etc),and the gloss of the junior titles(Reach out of the Darkness, Lazy Day, Sunshine Girl)combine to make a great CD. You canalmost smell the flowers and practically feel the warmth of the sun on yourface. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as essential as you would think
The "music fan from CA" is right: most of this music is obscure for a reason. It's simply not very good. After the incredible ESSENTIAL PEBBLES VOL. 1, where every single track was a surefire winner culled from the first 10 CD volumes of the PEBBLES series, I was really looking forward to popping this into my CD player. Unfortunately this was a major let-down; selecting songs from the PEBBLES LP's that haven't seen CD release yet, if these are the best of those, I'm not looking forward to those LP's seeing the light of the digital age.3-0 out of 5 stars Obscure for a reason
I picked this up because I already own the original Nuggets album, the original Pebbles Vol. 1 vinyl album, and the Rhino Nuggets box set.I liked most (not all) of the songs on those albums, and the good stuff on those was really good.I thought that this CD would be more of the same good stuff.5-0 out of 5 stars amazing
Picking up where volume 1 leaves off, "Pebbles Vol. 2" continuesto dig deep into the bowels of garage rock to find the tastiest leftoversfrom those bands with no names, and what a collection it is!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The 70's rock!!!
A real good selection of 70's rock songs. From Billy Joel to Bob Dylan, and everything in between, this album is sure to please. And the liner notes are good as well. Each song has a good paragraph written about it, as well as Billboard Chart and recording information. It is very informative, and a must have for people who love music from the 70's. And also, all these songs have been digitally remixed and remastered for great sound quality.
