5-0 out of 5 stars AC/DC's Original Masters Make AC/DC A Heavy Metal Band!!!!!!
I'm An AC/DC Fan That Likes The Original Masters Rather Than The Remasters Because The Original Masters Give A Longer And Thicker Sounding Of Them. AC/DC My Favorite Band Of All Times, Even I Liked The Versions In The Movie "MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE," The Rock Me All Night Long!!!!!!!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars It is what it is...A SOUNDTRACK
This CD is the soundtrack to the Stephen King Movie "Maximum Overdrive."The soundtrack is better than movie, if I may say so myself.
2-0 out of 5 stars Who Made You?
Certainly not AC/DC - this is a quick cash-in record. On this soundtrack to Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive, we get three crappy new songs (Title track, instrumentals D.T. and Chase the Ace), as well as a selection of songs that can be found elsewhere: the even-worse Sink the Pink and Shake Your Foundations (Both off of Fly on the Wall) as well as a few older, much-better AC/DC tunes (Ride On, You Shook Me All Night Long, Hells Bells, For Those About to Rock) that are best heard on their original albums (yes, this is worse than For Those About to Rock). And I know that this is supposed to be a pseudo-compilation. In that case, more from the Bon Scott era would be necessary. Avoid. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Burnin' Sky
Bad Company was a favorite during my early 20's and I always wanted this (back then ) album. So now I purchased the CD with one of my favorite Bad Company songs' "Burnin' Sky".

4-0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER EXCELLENT ALBUM BY THE NEXT LED ZEPPELIN
When I first this album in December 1985, I thought this was recorded after STRAIGHT SHOOTER and before RUN WITH THE PACK (This album had a more commercial sound to it.) because the music sounds like the first two albums.Anyway, the intro thundering and lighting is an outstanding sound effect for the title track that features excellent vocals, drum playing, bass guitar riffs, and the multi-layered guitar at the beginning and end.The raindrops from MORNING SUN that features excellent vocals, flute solo by ex-KING CRIMSON MEL COLLINS, and the 12-string guitar is also an outstanding effect that follows the repeated thunder at the end of the title track. LEAVING YOU is an great song with excellent guitar riffs, and LIKE WATER that features excellent vocals, organ, rhythm and slide guitar riffs is probably my favorite song on this album.KNAPSACK sounds like a song that was played in cave, but I do not like PAUL'S voice on the group written EVERYTHING I NEED; it sounds like the 1950s style of singing.Meanwhile, HEARTBEAT sounds like MICK RALPHS AND PAUL RODGERS playing harmony lead guitar. Plus, PEACE OF MIND that features excellent sounding lead guitar, harmony vocals, and organ and PASSING TIME are great piano ballads.TOO BAD (The album version and the anthology cd say that MICK RALPHS wrote this song, but the original and remastered cd versions say that PAUL RODGERS wrote this song) is an excellent guitar rock song, and I love the way PAUL AND MICK play guitar on MAN NEEDS WOMAN that also features excellent sax by MEL COLLINS.The closing group written song MASTERS OF CEREMONY features excellent reverse drum effects, distorted vocals, the sax, organ, bass guitar, and quiet lead guitar riffs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some unique tunes from the Company
I'm in the process of carefully building an appreciation for classic rock, so I'm still new to Bad Company. However, they've become my favorite group. So maybe my perspective will be useful to somebody. I found Burnin Sky to have quite a few inspired songs. They're catchy and different, but certainly not a departure from the original sounds and thoughtful lyrics that made the band famous before this album. The flow from the title track to 'Morning Sun' kicks of the album well, and the gritty guitar in 'Leaving You' is great. Paul Rodgers probably couldn't write a bad lyric if he wanted to. Then 'Everything I Need' mixes several styles but still holds out, which is impressive. 'Passing Time', again, has great lyrics and a good beat. 'Too Bad' is one of my favorites, I'm surprised it wasn't a hit. 'Man Needs Woman' has good rhythm too, and just as much power. Suffice it to say you'll like at least a few of the tracks here. Give Burnin Sky a good chance. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a classic, but a fine effort nonetheless
Although I prefer the albums that preceeded it, and Counterpart, which came later, this is still a welcomed addition to Rush's catalog.Rush is a band that changed its sound throughout the years NOT because they "sold-out", but rather because they have a keen ear for different sounds and are open to experimentation. This is why, all of their albums (much like the band logos that adorn them) have a uniqueness to them.If they have continued puttiong out records that sounded like the first one, they would not have the following they have today.Presto doesn't sound like 2112, or like Moving Pictures... there is no question about that. But, the album still contains many memorable moments, of which "Show Don't tell" and "The Pass" are just a handful. The reviewer that goes by "Kid" and posted on August 6th claims that Rush at this point sounded like those "crappy alternative Acts from the early/mid 90's" and that they were just "trend-followers".Gee...that's odd...considering this album was released in 1989!!!! I'm not sure how hip this "Kid" is, but although Nirvana had a record out in 1989, not many people had heard of them. The alternative explosion would not arrive until a few years later, making this claim baseless.

5-0 out of 5 stars One very Amazing and Powerful album
Rush has so many great albums, but when I first heared this album I was shocked. This album has an amazing drum performance by Neil and a great bass performance by Geddy, where as for Alex he is deep in his guitar work on this album, thus also giving him a grand performance. There is a Grunge feel as well as Earthy tone to this album's appearance, when as for the songwriting it is a magical setting in the classic Rush style.
1-0 out of 5 stars Presto: don'tyoueven dare buy it
-Presto- is by FAR the worst Rush album in the entire catalog. Yes this even beats out -Roll The Bones- in terms of a complete waste of plastic because even -...Bones- had one or two listenable songs on it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Why listen to it for free when you can pay for it?
ClearChannel strikes again!First they bought up all the rights to the great classic rock bands music; then they saw to it that any NEW music those bands recorded would never see the light of day (BTO, Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, and many others are still making great records, but ClearChannel radio stations will not play them); now, they're spitting out their own Digital K-Tel compilations.
3-0 out of 5 stars Classic Rock Gold
Classic Rock "Gold" is a double disc of classic rock's best. This 2-fer does have some good songs, but it also has some awkward inclusions.I had heard of most of these songs, but there's a few that I hadn't.Somehow I don't think those few should qualify as "classic" or "gold".
4-0 out of 5 stars + 1/2 stars...Solid Collection of Classic Rock Songs
The term "classic rock" means different things to different people. In my mind, it's that decade from 1964 to about 1975.For others, it's the decade of the Fifties. In the liner notes of this compilation, the "golden age" of Classic Rock has been defined as the FM radio era beginning in 1968 and ending in 1987. They further define a Classic Rock song as "snatching the listener out of the humdrum here and now, and taking off..."

5-0 out of 5 stars Innuendo1991
A great ending for queen.Innuendo finds queen in fine form using their strong diverse songwriting abilities at their best. Innuendo, the show must go on, and slightly mad find queen at their epic best, while songs like these are the days and don't try so hard are great ballads. To the last reviewer: obviously you a minority in saying this album isn't good, If I was you I would stick to whitestink. Whitestank isn't a fraction of what queen was, but eventually you'll learn.

5-0 out of 5 stars At The Top Again! ...(But This Time Forever!)
With thisfine recording in 90's, Queen reached again their peakest moment almost like in 1975. Listening to this record one can listen and find the structure and essence of the outstanding "A Night At The Opera" album. It's evident that the structure and rules of "A Night.." are here, but with a different and more modern application, plus with all the operatic mock Opera stuff for what Queen was always identificated: We can find all this similarities over and over as the music goes...and we can interpret it as follows (please listen the time signatures, chord changes, tones and tempos; and the creative, and not so obvious, use of the spanish mixolydian mode on chord changes and solos(*), or the chromatic ascending/decending chord changes (+), etc.):
5-0 out of 5 stars It amazes me still ...

1-0 out of 5 stars Are you kidding me? Prehaps their all time worst album.
I can't belive all the 4 and 5 star reviews i saw for this one. I thought *Signals* was by far the absolute worst Rush albums. My only guess as to why it has gained so many 5 star reviews on this page is that they were probably written by Rush fanatics who eat up everything they release, good or bad regardless. This is a problem with fans, esp for a group like Rush, they don't look at the music objectivly, rather they declare everything they put out a *Masterpiece*. *Signals* can not even be imagined to be within a 1,000,000,000 miles of such a prestigous moniker.
5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Rush
Being a fan of mostly early Rush like 2112, HEMISPHERES, and A FAREWELL TO KINGS, it took me some time to get into the post-MOVING PICTURES era.I was initially turned off by 80's Rush because there appeared to be a stronger emphasis on keyboards and bass and less of the raw, guitar-driven sound we hear on their earlier material.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing album.
Hmm... I thought A Farewell To Kings was my favorite Rush album, but Signals is a force to be reckoned with. It's not exactly progressive rock anymore, but it still floors you.As mentioned, the synths do usually add a dark atmosphere, but I don't think they drown out the guitar.I think it's the most PERFECT blend of synth and guitar from the 80's.Hold Your Fire is also a very good synth album, but the guitar isn't mixed well. That's why Signals beats it out.I'll review it song by song since there are only 8:

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Rocker Should Own This!
Absolutely one of the best albums ever and appreciated by so few.I can't get enough of it -- the ultimate party music. My first exposure to young Sammy and he keeps getting better.Love my local So. Cal. boy!

5-0 out of 5 stars "Montrose" still blows anything I've heard in over 30 years away.
Unlike all the flashy guitarists like Van Halen, etc., that impress green musicians and non-musicians alike by basically playing fast scales, Ronnie Montrose is a musician's musician. On this, his debut album after playing with Edgar Winter and Bos Scaggs, Montrose proved and still proves his playing is superior and more diverse to everyone else out at the time and even todaythat album will stand up to any Hard Rock you throw out on the airwaves or CD. As a guitarist, he can play anything. I've heard him play Rock, Jazz, Classical and I even saw him play Country with Hoyt Axton's band on Austin City Limits. If you were to ask the greats from the 70s up to now about Ronnie Montrose and this might include Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, they would tell you he's the best all around guitarist. He is no one-trick-pony like Ted Nugent and others. He's done it all. This CD does nothing short of ROCK. And it's fun music, not that dark stuff sung by a bunch of depressed, whiny slack jawed singers. If you have diverse tastes in Music, I highly recommend all of Ronnie Montrose's CDs and as for this one. THIS IS ROCK. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it for the beautifully remastered debut album
If you ever wanted to hear how great Asia's (1982) debut album sounded like re-mastered, well here it is!!! Disc one, tracks one through nine! Plus, track ten is that great and forgotten b-side, "Ride Easy" which could have easily been included on their debut, but hold on...
5-0 out of 5 stars complete geffen recordings with Wetton
This collection has put all geffen recordings into one complete package that sounds great. This package introduced me to great songs I was not familiar with that were overlooked by greatest hit pakages. If you liked any asia songs from the 82 to 90 era; the set is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Anthologia" With Better Sound
I unfortunately lost my copy of "Anthologia" which as some may know is Asia's first three albums on two discs. One of my gripes with that disc was that the sound and mastering was not on par with the times.I had "Heat of the Moment" on a compilation and recalled that is sounded much better than what I heard on "Anthologia".The rest of the album is a bit messy sounding.Well someone had the bright idea to go in and remaster it and released the same album song for song as part of Universal's "Gold" series.

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst kansas collection ever collected.
Fans of Kansas are a tough and unusually fast breed of music lovers. That's one of the reasons why we don't take no guff when were talking about the Greatest Band On Earth, Kansas. First of all, when compiling a Kansas best of you must have at least 100 - 200 tracks, any less is a Federal crime. The worst thing about this compilation, however, is its' obvious exclusion of such Kansas classics such as "Magnum Opus", "Opus Insert", "Dust In The Wind", and "Dancing in the Dark". Also, it is very hard to read the title, and the picture of the Earth on the cover is highly inacurate people.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is a classic Kansas album and a must-have, but beware the remastering job
The title of this review says it all: This album should be on the list of "required listening" (if indeed such a list exists) for every true classic rock fan (and some of us would argue every living person).Point Of Know Return (1977) (the italics html doesn't work for these reviews) was Kansas's fifth album and best seller; it even outstripped Leftoverture (1976).There is a running debate over which of these two fine albums is better, and I must say (resoundingly) that Point Of Know Return takes the cake. Here's why:
4-0 out of 5 stars An exciting album of progressive hard rock
Over the course of their first five albums, Kansas developed a unique type of progressive rock that fused elements of hard rock with English progressive rock - note that I am not using the disparaging term "stadium rock" when discussing Kansas.By the time of Point of Know Return (1977), the prog and hard rock had been seamlessly fused and made for a very balanced listening experience. Fortunately for them, this was the only way an American band that had progressive inclinations could make it in their home country (just look at poor Starcastle), and they certainly "hit the jackpot" with this album.Point of Know Return really is a great album, with a dynamic range that spans the gamut from the electrifying instrumental The Spider, to the delicate, acoustic ballad Dust in the Wind. The musicianship/vocal performances are superb throughout and the pieces feature decent ensemble work and arrangements.Instrumentation consists of loads of "toccata-like" flourishes on the Hammond organ, moog/ARP synthesizers, along with virtuosic lines on the violin and heavily distorted guitar (the hard rock aspect).Underlying it all is the thunderous rhythm section of drummer Phil Ehart and bassist Dave Hope. The purely hard rock pieces on Point of Know Return include Lightning's Hand along with Sparks of the Tempest, while the rest of the album features concise, prog/hard rock statements. The sound quality of the remastered album is not bad at all (I actually think it is quite good), although the recording quality of the live version of Sparks of the Tempest is only "so-so" and the remix of Portrait (He Knew)is pretty poor.Recommended to those folks whose musical tastes include Styx, Led Zeppelin, Rush, and Yes.Other great Kansas albums include Kansas (1974), Song for America (1975), and Leftoverture (1976).For folks interested in the earliest developmental stages of Kansas, the Proto-Kaw album "Early Recordings from Kansas 1971-1973" is also quite good and provides significant insight into the musical perspectives of Kerry Livgren. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Return to Glory
Styx returned to a harder style with this album, a style that seemed to vanish on 1979's Cornerstone. While they didn't rock as hard as they had on "Pieces of Eight", fans nonetheless embraced this album, thanks to songs like "Rockin' The Paradise" and "Snowblind".Newer fans of the band were also happy with "The Best of Times" and "Too Much Time On My Hands".This is probably the most polished album of Styx's career; for older fans this was probably their biggest complaint with the album. The blend of styles worked well for them here, but this would be the last album that would prove satisfying to what had become a large legion of fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Great Great
This album is another great one in a long line of great Styx albums. Dennis DeYoung is such a huge part of the success of Styx. Every song here is a winner.

5-0 out of 5 stars It all depends on what you like.
Rush is basically a rock band that made a transition somewhat in the direction of new wave in the 80s. Naturally, doing this sort of thing is going to make old fans feel 'left out in the cold'. This is the reason for the many bad reviews of this album. On the other hand, if new wave was/is more your cup of tea (as it is mine), then you will actually probably find this album to be one of the best albums of the 1980s that you never heard of. After all, if you were into new wave, chances are you never even considered listening to Rush back in the day.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as bad as some fans and critics would have you think
Most "hardcore" Rush fans are too quick to dismiss this album, along with the other mid- to late- eighties synth driven albums.Heck, even the band itself did not include many songs from this period for the longest time.Although this album does not reach the heights of "Permanent Waves" and "Moving Pictures", I think it has aged rather well.Or, maybe it is just nostalgia. The truth is that this is the album that introduced me to Rush.It remember buying this as a cassette after viewing the "Distant Early Warning" on MTV.Although I had heard Rush before then and was familiar with some of their songs from our local rock radio station, it wasn't until I saw them at MTV that they peaked my interest.Although Rush was never truly an "MTV" type of band, at the time that TV station was still the prime source for music for most young Americans, including me. Remeber, this was before MTV sucked.I quickly went into their back calalogue, eventually owning everything the ever released.Although the album in indeed synth-heavy, the sound is still undeniably Rush. The lyrics are still top notch, the musicianship is still superb, and the songs are as moving as always.Rush should not be faulted for experimenting with a new sound, and for using synths, since everyone was employing them at the time. What made Rush such a great band is their ability to change and to adapt to new musical currents. If every album sounded like 2112 or like Moving Pictures, there would not be a need to own their entire catalogue. As it stands, this album might not be one of their greates, but it still earns an important place in my CD collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars This album is really hard for me to rate...
I can never decide between 4 and 5 stars for this album... It is a very solid album, the weakest being The Body Electric which still gets airplay in my head. I'll go into it song by song.

Judging by the title of this review, you might assume I was alive when this album was originally released in the mid-1980s and that I'm referring to how I felt at that time.

As good as the first 2 were as in no bad songs, this one is hard to find one good one which is to bad. Gave it 2 stars because i like boston. Dont let your heart tell you its good, its not very.

3-0 out of 5 stars Buy the first two albums instead
Boston only releases an album once every decade and with the album's release,it's always a decade behind in terms of sound.Such is the case here with Boston's third album,Third Stage. This was the first album that you had to wait eight years for mostly because of legal issues and Tom Scholz's perfectionist attitude when it comes to making music.

Editorial Review

Opening with a few bars of Stravinsky to set the adoring crowd on its feet, this once-three-LP set is Yes at their finest. While "Heart of the Sunrise" may be one of the more modestly titled Yes songs (compare it with "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" or "The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)" or even "Total Mass Retain"), it also bears marks of the band playing at its most frenetic pace around Jon Anderson's soaring near-falsetto. Rick Wakeman's grand synthesizer flashes are more than textural, finding visual meshes aplenty with Roger Dean's cryptic cover art--most of which is shrunken or absent on this two-CD reissue. 4-0 out of 5 stars YES!
This is the definition of a live album.A band firing on all cylinders, playing at the absolute zenith of their abilities, with overwhelming heart and sincerity dripping from every last note.Every track is unmistakeably the song it says it is; but none of them sound like their studio counterparts. This is a band hitting the stage and saying forget about reproducing the album---this is a LIVE show! And that's how it should be, as far as I'm concerned.
