Editorial Review

One question would be: What took him so long? After all, a contemporary like Van Morrison has sold boatloads of his single-disc best-of set to buyers wary of diving into that deep catalog without a primer to get them started. So three and a half decades into his solo career, Neil Young finally delivers his version of that most modest of albums--the pre-holiday "hits" overview. What's surprising, coming from such a proud maverick, is its conventionality. Granted, the original master mixes are a boon for fans, but otherwise, there's not much here for loyalists who quite likely already possess the original "Like a Hurricane" on a couple of albums, as well as a handful of live interpretations scanning the years. Since Young cracked the Top 10 only once (1972's "Heart of Gold"), this set is built around concert staples as "Cinnamon Girl," "Rockin' in the Free World," and "Hey, Hey, My My" rather than chart favorites. Despite Young's honorable standing as a still-vital graybeard, the disc is skewed heavily toward his early work, shortchanging some mighty productive recent years. Peripheral fans may find this set of interest, but faithful followers are better advised to investigate the DVD version, which, at least, includes videos, photos, lyrics, and Web links. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Single CD Collection of Neil Young's Hits
Making a single disc of Neil Young's biggest hits is not an easy task. Back in 1977, he released a two disc career retrospective called Decade, which is still one of the greatest compilations in rock and roll history.
5-0 out of 5 stars THANKS, NEIL. THIS COULDN'T BE ANY BETTER !
If we look hard enough, we can always find something we don't like about "Greatest Hits" and "Best of" releases by our favorite recording artists. Mostly, it's the songs left off or the songs left on, but it can be other things as well. This time I'm not going to let my expectations ruin, what is to me, a perfect "Neil Young Greatest Hits" cd. The remastering is exquisite, and this is most evident on "Needle and the Damage Done". It sounds like Neil and his guitar are right in the room. The song selection is perfect, with a nice balance between the acoustic songs and the rockers. The songs are in chronological order, which gives the listener a sense of Young's career history. The album cover is a photo of Neil with an acoustic guitar, from a time in his career that most people probably associate with him. There are no songs after 1992, but rest assured that there will be a GH vol. 2 in the future. I'm a long time fan of Neil Young, and as a concise cd of his best work, this couldn,t be any better.
5-0 out of 5 stars Near perfect disc for the casual Neil Young fan
THE BAND: Neil Young (vocals, acoustic & electric guitar, piano) and an assortment of musicians (too many to mention here) over the past 4 decades.

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed Seeing The Play Twice
I saw the stage production at Hollywood's famous Pantages Theater some years ago, and was quite impressed. I then purchased the CD, which has been in my CD player many times. But I somehow feel the original Movie soundtrack was a bit more superior. Especially the powerful film opening of 'Circle of Life.' I just feel the strong African male vocals delivered much more impact. And not to sound sexist, but Rafiki was also better portrayed as a male, than the female actresses seen in the stage productions. But still an extremely enjoyable listening experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flawless Material
The Lion King will undoubtedly bring you oodles of entertainment. After recently seeing The Lion King National Tour I just had to have this item. From the legendary opening Circle of Life to the astounded ending, you will experience constant harmony. The land of Africa is a remarkable place, and now you can experience it in your very own home. Buy it now! You simply can't go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I Have yet to see this play but,the music is absolutley beautiful. it's more than just feel good musical it has a message that can been heared through the music itself. i personally don't even listen to the orgnial songs from the movie soundtrack anymore, because many of the other songs are so spritual amd moveing. songs like; They Lives In You, He Lives In You (reprise, my FAVORUITE), The Cricle Of Life, Soudowland(My Other Fav) and Endless Night. All the Music on this soundtrack are REALLY GOOD. It's a good mixture of fun, and spritual music and does an amazing job of telling the story. The vocals, the music just evrthing is spotless. i can't say enough about this play, it's a classic

5-0 out of 5 stars Elton John's finest hour and one of the Top 10 Studio Double albums in History
Elton John's seventh studio album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was released in October of 1973 on MCA Records here in the US and DJM Records in his native England.
4-0 out of 5 stars The Road Begins
There have been very few records that really shined from the 1970's, that people really appreciate today. Although more of them came from the styles of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, the Disco appeal of Saturday Night Fever with the Bee Gees, and the clever distinction of Billy Joel's storytelling on his 1977 album The Stranger. For Elton John, his appeal from all his eras have been filled with promise, delight, and the comfort of a good pop album. Although he had numerous hits and multiple records since 1969, he also made a appeal with making one of the very few double albums, that not just remained definitive, its story is everlasting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reconnecting with Neil Young
A big Neil Young fan in the 60s and 70s, I hadn't followed his music in many years (or any other popular music, for that matter). One of my 8th grade students, knowing how I feel about the war in Iraq, gave me Neil's LIVING WITH WAR. I loved it, so I checked out reviews of PRAIRIE WIND, and I bought it. As far as I'm concerned, it's a masterwork. The songs are incredibly moving, especially for someone who is Neil's age. I love this man for having made it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Neil Young is Mr Soul
This is an essential Neil Young album. Taking yet another turn in his long, interesting and forever relevant career Neil follows a country rock muse and his words and music is delivered in a heltfelt and moving way that is straight from his soul. Neil faced several personal traumas during 2005, not the least the death of his father and his own health concerns which he has since rebounded from in emphatic fashion.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Collection Of Great Music
This is a great album if you are looking to get into Lynnyrd Skynnyrd this is a great album to start out with. I do think though that it is missing a few songs like "Tuesdays Gone" and my personal favorite "I Ain't The One". But that is the problem with all greatest hits album there is always at least one song that somebofy thinks is missing. That is why we buy the indivual albums so we can have every song our favorite bands have made. But anyway this is a spectacular album to have if you love Lynnyrd Skynnyrd or you just plain love music this is a great album to have. Buy this one today.

5-0 out of 5 stars The final classic Elton John album from his golden era IMHO
Elton John's eleventh album which was a concept album entitled Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy was released in May of 1975.
5-0 out of 5 stars E.J . WILL ALWAYS BE "FANTASTIC" WITH ME!!!
I've been a diehard fan since '71. In the process, I've $pent a ton on the EEJ, but he's worth every cent as he's my hero who has "Saved my life" many a time! I was there when EJ Mania was in full swing. As a Footnote, play this & the New Captain/Kid! It's a wonderful double concept! Title track introduces us to EJ & BT/"Tower of Babel" is the early "try to write a tune for others"phase. "Bitter Fingers" continues the trend. "Whistle?" I LOVE THIS TRACK! "Saved" makes me cry as this song is VERY personal to EJ. "Meal Ticket" jams as the struggles continue.

When David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash created this pop super trio in 1968 after their splits from the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and The Hollies, respectively, it would have been a pipedream that a hits package released 37 years later would sound as eternal and essential as this one. The 19 songs straddle the four-album, landscape-altered timeframe between 1969’s post-Woodstock debut Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Hits Collection, but where's Ohio and Woodstock?
Crosby, Stills, and Nash sound like angels when they sing together. Theur harmonies are almost unsurpassed, rivaled only by the Everly Brothers or the Beach Boys or the Eagles. This new cd brings out their biggest hits, emphasizing their 1960s-1970s songs, with a couple of big smashes from 1982 (Wasted on the Way, Southern Cross) added to the mix.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Cd Great Songwriters
As several of you have mentioned, this is a great cd.It contains a lotof CSN's popular songs, and it is a good introduction for new fans of CSN, or for those who aren't new fans. Some of the highlights on this cd for me are: "Suite Judy Blue Eyes,"Wooden Ships," "See The Changes," Shadow Captain," "Long Time Gone," "Guinnivere," and "Wasted on the Way."

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Pink Floyd
When someone mentions Pink Floyd nowadays, all anyone thinks of is "Dark Side of the Moon" or "The Wall", and once in a while, "Wish You Were Here". Those are great albums, but there is one album missing from that group and that is "Meddle". I am 14 years old and have listened to many Pink Floyd albums but "Meddle" has to be one of my favorites. It kicks off with some wind effects before plunging into the bass-driven "One of These Days". I can definately say that "One of These Days" is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs. From the opening bass lines to Nick Mason growling "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces" and then the all out rocking end, this song stays strong the whole way through. Next comes "A Pillow of Winds", which is much softer then the opening track or almost anything else before it. It is very melodic and slow, but it's very good. Then we have "Fearless", which is an excellent accoustic song. It is more up-tempo then "A Pillow of Winds" but not nearly as up-tempo as "One of These Days", but all in all a good example of accoustic Floyd. After "Fearless" comes "San Tropez" which sort of has a blusey feel to it and is a great song. The blues theme continues with a slow, accoustic blusey song called "Seamus" which is pretty good, possibly the weakest song on the album, but that doesn't mean it's not good, it's just not as good as the excellent songs that come before it (on a 1 to 10 scale I'd give it a 7). Closing out the album is an experimental song called "Echoes". It runs at 23 minutes in length and took a whole album side upon "Meddle"s vinyl release. "Echoes" is a great experimental song and if you have the patience, I would reccomend giving it a listen.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Floyd Titles

5-0 out of 5 stars La mejor introducción a la música de The Beatles
5-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Introduction to the Fab Four
Supervised by producer George Martin, this 1973 compilation introduced many second-generation fans to the timeless music of John, Paul, George and Ringo. "The Beatles: 1967-1970" covers most of the essential tracks from "Sgt. Pepper" through "Let It Be" -- along with hit singles not featured on the original LPs. Incidentally, the memorable cover photograph was intended for the group's aborted "Get Back" album.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Cheap Product....could have been better
I was worried about how good this would be when I saw the cover. It is a cheap looking cover. It looks like one of those junky CD's you order on late night TV.Maybe something KTel puts out.It turns out that it is not horrible, is actually pretty good, but it could have been much better.
4-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for the DVD, 4 for the CD
I'm a fan of all the artists on here independently, so to find them here in one concert was a treat. The only problem I have with this package is that the CD leaves off the best songs from the DVD. Keb' Mo's blues jam on "No Gettin' Over You" overshadows "Love Letter." I just love the song "Papa Come Quick" so I wish it was on the CD, though Alison has a smaller part than on "You." "Well, Well, Well" is the best song on here, again omitted from the CD in lieu of "Two Lights in the Nightime." And Norah's "Tennessee Waltz" is much more interesting than "I Don't Want..."
4-0 out of 5 stars Bonnie Is Consistently Good
Bonnie Raitt is certainly one of the most consistent artists of the past 35 years. While that might mean that her work is often predictable, it also means that it is usually very good. Since her debut, Raitt's approach hasn't really changed much at all; she still mixes ballads, rock, and folk-oriented music and infuses all of it with a strong sense of the blues. About the only thing that has changed over the years is the level of recognition that she receives. The combination of her voice and slide-guitar tone is now instantly recognizable by just about anyone, and here numerous Grammy awards have helped elevate her to a semi-legendary status.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of hard rock's legends
This is where it all began for me. "Highway to Hell" was one of the very first albums I received.I own it on vinyl, cassette, and 3 different masterings on cd.AC/DC have been my favorite band ever since.I remember I had just got a boom box at the age of 14 and I got "Highway to Hell" for Christmas. At the time I knew very little about rock music and after I put the album into my player I was hooked. This record remains my favorite AC/DC album and one my favorites of all time.
1-0 out of 5 stars everything that could go wrong has on this album
I never thought I would end up liking the albums with Brian better than the ones with Bon Scott, but that's how it turned out when I listened to all of them. Really the only AC/DC album that I completely love is "Back In Black", it's obvious why it's famous. I was surprised to find that I hated every song on this album, the melodies have no direction but have the same repetitious guitar patterns and simplicity of all the albums before it. Thank goodness Brian took over, though I'm certainly not saying it's good that Bon Scott died. None of the albums with him on it are any good, although I can't say that about "High Voltage" because I have yet to hear that one. This CD, however, is simply awful. Really boring, I nearly fell asleep listening to it. AC/DC's a bit more popular than they really need to be, though I can see why everyone would wear "Back In Black" shirts. NOt recommended.

David Gilmour’s solo career hasn’t exactly been creatively restless; this is but the third album by the Pink Floyd guitarist, and first in 18 years. But that seemingly lackadaisical career ethos hasn’t prevented Gilmour from producing some of his finest work here, an album whose soaring, lyrical guitar lines will be familiar to Floyd fans, yet one also blessed by often surprising nuances and delicate musical textures. 1-0 out of 5 stars David on Prozac
I found this album to be a waste of time and money... not what I expected from a guitar god. Not much energy and muddled lyrics. Not at all Pink Floyd type effort. As a Floyd fan and having been to several Floyd concerts as well as seeing David's solo concert I am saddend to see David produce such drivel. 1 star for nice packaging.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is 1 of those albums you can put on after a hard day of work and sit and unwind and relax too.
On an Island sounds exactly like an album by a 60 year old, semi-retried, musician should sound like. It's laid back beyond measure, sparse, leisurely and unforced.
