4-0 out of 5 stars Christmas harmony
It just makes perfect sense for the Oaks to release Christmas albums. After all, the group has its roots in Gospel music, which is music as much about Christianity as a Christmas album is supposed to be. So, while Santa gets the ocassional mention the emphasis definitely lies on religious material. Because of this, the material quite often seems miles away from Country music.Country harmonies aside, this feels primarily like a Gospel album.
2-0 out of 5 stars Well . . .
This is the expected mix of traditional and original songs, but the traditional ones were pretty standard "country Christmas" fare, and the originals were rather bland. Nice enough, but no stunners. And guys, this just isn't how the Hallelujah Chorus should be done. Nor even Beautiful Star of Bethlehem, for that matter!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply AWESOME!
This has to be the best Christmas album I have ever heard."An Inconvenient Christmas" is your typical Oaks instant classic and I don't think I have EVER heard a better version of "The Hallelujah Chorus."The Oaks just keep recording great music and only get better with time....just like fine wine! ... Editorial Review

This collection offers a fine introduction to the most agreeable of country crooners, sampling a variety of styles. Red Foley puts his conversational baritone to gospel favorites, catchy novelties (including one here with Ernest Tubb), souped-up boogies, and of course, the sentimental classic "Old Shep," a boy-and-his-dog tale that manages to be both mawkish and moving at the same time. 5-0 out of 5 stars Smooth; Unparalled Pop of the 40's
Some nostalgic albums reissues from the 30's, 40's and 50's just don't age that well and just don't sound as well as you might remember them if you were alive in that era. This is a wonderful exception and its sounds as fresh as it did when these songs were first popular.Lots of artists have done Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy, but I never cared for most of the versions; this one by Red Foley is the best version I've ever heard.I came across this album by accident, as you don't often hear Foley's name.Strange since he had the first million seller gospel album and sold over 25 million records in his heydey and influenced many other artists.I am sure I must have heard Foley in the 50's without knowing his name.At that time, this was not called country or country western music. It was cowboy music or it was just the music we listened to on the radio; we didn't really classify it.This is a nice variety of songs all the way from the sad (Old Shep) to the humorous (Don't Be Ashamed of Your Age). There are a few really nice duets too.The sound is sharp and Red's voice is smooth and pleasant. If there is anything disappointing about this album it's that it doesn't go on a lot longer; still with 16 songs, one can't complain too much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Foley: One of Country's Unsung Heroes
Few people today realize what a major impact Red Foley once made on country music, because so little has been written about him over the years. In the 1940s, Foley was a household word in country music. As the host ofNBC/WSM's Grand Ole Opry, he was heard coast-to-coast on one of networkradio's highest-rated shows, and was highly respected by fans and fellowartists alike.5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful memories of listening to his music with my dad.
I am looking for a record he released. I think the name was "Peace in the Valley",the old version. He narriated a song in it. It was about a little childs death. One line was "HE didn't give that child by ahundred thousand years, He just thought you needed some sunshine, so Helent him to you for a whle" Other songs were "Lady ofFatamia",If you go first, Peace In the Valley, and Just a closer Walkwith Thee." If anyone can tell how to get a copy of this album,I wouldbe vere happy. It (the album) got lost when my mother died. It means a lotto me.Help me if you can. Thanx. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Harmony! Great Sound!
This group knows how to put sound together! They sound great and harmonize beautifully! Praising God with this music is a great way to spend some time.

5-0 out of 5 stars THANK GOD FOR QUALITY GOSPEL MUSIC! (THAT ROCKS)
IMAGINE THIS. A MAN IS CRUISING AROUND IN A CAMARO WITH THE BASS SPEAKERS BOOMING, BUT WAIT THATS NOT ROCK AND ROLL POURING OUT THEM THERE SPEAKERS. THE MUSIC IS THIS ALBUM AND THE MAN IS ME! I KNOW YOU CANT HEAR A SAMPLE OF I "HEARD THE ANGELS SINGING", TOO BAD. IF YOU CAN BELIEVE ME THAT SONG ABSOLUTELY "ROCKS" (FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD). THE MASTERING ENGINEER DID NOT BOTHER TO EQ IT DOWN INTO SOME WARM "FUZZY" EASY LISTENING GOSPEL SONG. THAT SONG WAS LEFT WITH ITS RAW POWER AND BEAUTY! KUDOS TO DOYLE LAWSON AND QUICKSILVER. I CAN ONLY HOPE AND PRAY THE REST OF YOUR ALBUMS ARE AS GREAT AS THIS ONE!

5-0 out of 5 stars I Hear the Gospel Singing
For those who like gospel music and are not familiar with Doyle, Lawson & Quicksilver, do yourself a favor by adding this one to your collection. For those who are familiar with the several cd's available fromthis group, this one is a must.Cuts include this group's outstandingharmony as well as some superb acappella numbers this group soars with like"Stormy Waters," "I Heard the Angels Singing" and"Rock of Ages." Their upbeat songs use metaphors characteristicof gospel music conveying the need for strength to face life'sstorms/challenges and the strength one gains by accepting a higher being.Great vocals, excellent instrumentation.I would like to see this groups, and others, include in the jacket printed lyrics to the songs. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Performance
I am a great fan of Daniel O'Donnell, having collected all of his CDs and DVDs, but this performance at Branson would now be the number 1 of my collection. His uncomplicated style and rendition of some old evergreens makes for wonderful listening and enjoyment. I also want to thank DPTV Media for its initiative in releasing both the DVD of the concert and the CDs. Now I can listen to Daniel not only in the comfort of my lounge at home but also in the car on the road. I hope that there will be further DVD releases of Daniel's USA concerts. ... Read more

this was purchased for a gift for my father.he requested a specific song by the group and your company made it easy for me to track down the right cd.he was so excited to be able to hear this music again.thank you for making his (and my) holiday special this year.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this!
This album is the BEST! I love to hear the couple that have been married for 50 years sing. Vestal is the greatest. She is my favorite gospel singer. If you don't have this album, make sure you get it soon! Love ya Vestal!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars "Friends"
Vestal and Howard Goodman. These names ring a bell to those of us who grew up listening to the Happy Goodmans. These 2 people are SO special. All of the songs on this cd I know are special to them. I feel I have known Vestalall my life. The song Friends is really special to me in such a way that-itreminds me that-we all have at least one earthly very special friend. But,we also have a Heavenly Father who wants to be our friend also. My favoritewords in this song are,"..you just love me, and you pray for me-thatsa friend." That IS a friend. God is our friend. We know that. And evenwith all the troubles this life may bring, one thing two special peoplesaid has always kept me going,"Lord, I wouldn't take nothin' for myjourney now!" ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars The chart juggernaut's beginnings
This album made Chapman a household name in Christian circles thanks to 4 chart hits in "Weak Days" (#6), "Tell Me" (#14),and "Run Away" (#8). So how does it hold up? In all honesty, it's sounding lackluster these days.
4-0 out of 5 stars still looking for an identity
Is it just me, or does the title track of this album sound exactly like "Footloose"? It is obvious that this is one of SCC's earliest releases. He is still mired in a very generic, ordinary sound. He has not yet found his musical wings, although as a lyricist he has started to shine.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very challenging and helpful!
When I first bought this CD I wasn't too fond of it. The music didn't really jump out at me. However when I got to listening to the lyrics, I found that I really enjoyed it. The lyrics will challenge you as well asoffer you hope. "Weak Days" and "Dying to Live" areamong the best on here. Though the whole CD is well worth listening to andtaking to heart. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars John Moore
This New album caught my eye.I have always been a fan of Paul Overstreet and have marveled at his talent .When ever I have seen him ,he is humble and gracious. I am here today to replenish my many literaly worn out Paul Overstreet tapes( of course they will be updated to CD's ) and to by some additional ones as gifts. I believe if you know a country music fan who has never heard Paul sing . Give them a Paul Overstreet album and listen to them !! sing. This CD shows his talent as a song writer. He sings his songs as well as the talented singers he has written them for .

4-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely marvelous... but there is not enough!
George Beverley Shea sings these old favorites splendidly, with a full and loving voice. One could just feel this man's intense committment to God, pouring out generously in his beautiful bass-baritone. One complaint however: there is not enough of him here! This album times out at less than half an hour. True, the price is low; but for those of us who love Shea's voice, that is not an excuse! More! More! MORE! Other than that, I recommend this album highly!

5-0 out of 5 stars A truly upliftng CD
In the world of post-modern cynicism it is good to find music based on rock solid values sung with meaning and passion.5-0 out of 5 stars George Beverly Shea is my favorite gospel singer.

I have to agree!Cherokee Morning Song is my absolute favorite! This is soothing music with a smooth, rolling, rhythmic feel.

5-0 out of 5 stars This collection rocks the house!
If you like great Southern fried music, pick this one up.Here, you have a sampling of every CDB album on Epic Records.I will caution you, though, that this music is addictive. This won't be the last CDB music you'll ever buy.I am a fanatic, so I have to have almost everything that Charlie ever recorded. This began when I seriously started to absorb this set. It's definitely worth the money. This also makes for a great autograph item, if you ever get a chance to meet Charlie. He's a good guy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Southern Rock Collection
Charlie Daniels is first and always a musician. Early in his career he was one of the top session musicians in Nashville playing on numerous albums, including Dylan's "Nashville Skyline". Starting with his quirky hit "Uneasy Rider" he began to play and sing his own music. One thing I always liked about Daniels is he never sold out his music. He played what he wanted to play, and if he received awards, great. If not, oh well. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of country-rocker's career
Country-rock giant (physically and musically) Charlie Daniels' careeroutput defies easy categorization.Beginning as a straight ahead rocker, who produced blues guitarist Roy Buchanan's debut album and theYoungblood's "Get Together" Daniels did not find solo successuntil 1973's hippy mini-saga "Uneasy Rider," the tale of a longhair who has a flat tire outside a redneck bar in Jackson, Mississippi. Daniels' next flirtation with fame was the country-rock anthem "TheSouth's Gonna Do It Again."His follow-up, however, was the seeminglycontradictory, "Long Haired Country Boy" about a long hairedredneck who enjoyed "getting drunk in the morning and high in theafternoon."Not exactly your typical country Top 40, especially in1974.These hit singles and the mega-hit album "Fire On TheMountain" also from 1974, put CDB (Charlie Daniels Band) on both thepop and country musical maps, and set the tone for their output of the next20 years.Mixing country ethos with rock-style playing, Daniels and co.became favorites of hippies and rednecks alike, and while he has movedfurther and further to the right politically, he has never isolated himselffrom the fun-loving long-haired crowd."The Roots Remain"encapsulates CDB's recorded output from 1973-1992 when they departed EpicRecords. The 45 tracks and more than 3 hours of music contained in the setinclude all his big hits as well as essential album tracks.Daniels'political leanings have always been evident, especially in works such as"The South's Gonna Do It Again," "In America,""Still In Saigon," and the American Farmer."Mixing countryfiddle with rock guitar, CDB epics such as the 11:27 version of "NoPlace To Go" and the 10:53 version of "Saddle Tramp" displayample evidence of the band's instrumental prowess. While the Charlie andband may be immune to musical pigeonholing, they certainly know how to havea good time and to share that good time with the listener."The RootsRemain" is a wonderful distillation of the first 20 years of theCharlie Daniels Band, and as such belongs in the collection ofcountry-rock, rock, and country music fans alike, right next to fellowSouthern rock artists such as the Allman Brothers and the Marshall TuckerBand. ...
