5-0 out of 5 stars Different album from PETRA...and then again not!
I recall that this album was way different than the PETRA albums I've used to listen to those days. PETRA had been a rock-group with great guitar-based albums like "More power to ya" and "Not of this world". Suddenly things had changed and the album I was listening to was a synthisizer-based album with electronic drums. It was different... but then again not!
5-0 out of 5 stars Petra was an ecxellent introduction to CCM For me personally
Awe, 1985 was the year after graduating from High School and this band's concert that year was the first Rock and Roll concert of any type I have ever been to.These Boys can Rock for the Lord and they do it so well with a Biblically based testimony.I bought the Cassette and started listening to the tracks, now I only knew of before bands like: Styx, Journey, Reo Speedwagon, Van Halen and a few others. These gentlemen belt out a great song and have been noted to be the first CCM group formed in the early 1970's.Please give this talented group a heartfelt listen and enjoy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best but solid
This cd was influenced by the keyboard sound of the mid '80's. That being said, it applies that sound very nicely. The electric keyborad has come and gone from time to time in pop culture, however, this album does not sound dated because the songs are very solid. All of the early Petra albums are great anywayl. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 7:The Best of Stryper
This is a wonderful CD that will take you back to the 80's when the music brought feeling to your listening enjoyment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally !!!! A Complete Stryper Collection
When i first listened to "Can`t Stop The Rock" i thought that it was too early for Stryper to make a greatest hits CD back in 1991.Also, i felt somekind disapointed by the selection of songs that were included in that album, except for the real hits, and those were a few.But we have to mention that in 1991, Nirvana and the Seattle movement were the reason for so many bands like Stryper to think they were finished that soon.I personally think that Stryper could have given more. But the time they took was really needed because when they released "7:The Best Of Stryper",the time was right. And in this compilation of songs you can really have the essential Stryper hits with the songs that were not radio hits, but were too damn good to leave them out.I`m talking about "The Way","All For One","Reach Out" and "Makes Me Wanna Sing".The super hits like "Calling On You","Free","Honestly" and "Always There For You" will give you the chills when you listen to them. The two new tracks,"Something" and "For You" are well balanced with the new sound and style of these times but also using the old school. If you`re a fan of Stryper and their legacy, this is the album to have and forever be a "Soldier Under Command".

4-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good listen with room for growth
Sanctus Real spikes their rock with singalong..not really gritty but at times too rocky to really call them power pop. It's hard to know exactly who to compare them to in terms of sound. They're a Christian band but usually avoid becoming too preachy lyrically and that's allowed them a minor degree of mainstream exposure in clubs that more typically book mainstream rock/punk/alt rock acts. This particular CD won Gospel's Dove Award for "Best Modern Rock Album" in 2005.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sanctus Real Rocks!
I absolutely love this album. The reason I bought it was because I really liked the song Everything About you and they played it on my local Christian Radio Station alot so I really got curious as to what the Cd would sound like so I bought it and now I listen to it all the time. The whole CD is just fun to listen to. I don't think there is one bad song on it. I totally reccomend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not your ordinary Christian rock
I bought the first CD and liked it, but this is the album that made me a fan.Musically, it's edgy without being inaccessible; in fact, several of the songs are quite catchy.Lyrically, the songs are clever, inspirational, convicting, all in all stronger than the usual fare. The vocals are distinctive; it's not a sound many bands can duplicate. If you're still hesitant, listen to the sample clips and I think you'll fall in love like I did. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely one of Smitty's better efforts
I love this album! The opener "Missing Person" is the best opening for a Michael W. Smith album I've ever heard (with the possible exception of "Sonata in D Major" from the album PROJECT, but that was less than a minute and completely instrumental, so I don't think that counts). But the best song on here is "Never Been Unloved", penned by Wayne Kirkpatrick. It's a gentle and simple ballad that reminds us (sometimes very explicitly) of just how much God loves us and how unlovely we are.
4-0 out of 5 stars Thumbs Up!
This album really showcases Michael's lyrical, instrumental, and vocal abilities well, and it is very uplifting!"Missing Person" is a soul-searching song I think we all can identify with, and my favourite on this CD.I like all of the songs on here, but other highlights are "Never Been Unloved" (the sweet and simple truth we all need to hear!), "I Know Your Name" (another reminder of God's loving care), and "Song for Rich" (for all you Scottish/Irish pipes fans out there!)The only drawback on this CD is that God's name is only mentioned a couple of times, and two of the songs are love songs ("A Matter of Time" and "In My Arms Again"), though those tracks are beautiful. Also, "Let Me Show You the Way" is one of my absolute favourites, and it is about friendship, but can be taken in another way.If you don't mind "Christian love songs" and so forth, though, you are guaranteed to enjoy this album!Soothing and inspiring!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good album
This is when Amy Grant's voice was like an angel, I like her now of course but I liked her better 20 years ago. I guess I am getting old; this cd makes me remember good days.

5-0 out of 5 stars Found Again
Amy Grant has long been a favourite of mine. The tape of 'My Father's Eyes' was played so often that it wore out. I am extremely grateful to have found her again in CD format. I would recommend this CD to anyone who wants to hear beautiful Christian music.

4-0 out of 5 stars I think the Father liked "My Father's Eyes"
Amy Grant's second release, MY FATHER'S EYES, became one of her best known albums. It spawned Amy her first #1 hit ("Father's Eyes"), and sold over 95,000 copies. Which was pretty good for a Christian artist in 1979. I personally like the words in "Father's Eyes" (And when I'm called to stand and tell just what you saw in me/More than anything I know/I want your words to be/She's got her Father's Eyes). It gives Amy Grant a sense of innocence. My favorites on this CD are "You Were There", "Giggle", and "Never Give You Up". Throughout the early '80s, MY FATHER'S EYES was labeled as one of the most popular albums in Christian history. Then in 1982, AGE TO AGE took the spotlight from this album. But overall, it's a pretty good album. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A return to hard rock
After becoming very experimental on their previous releases, the excellent Please Come Home...Mr. Bulbous and the uneven Manic Moonlight, King's X 2005 release, Ogre Tones, is a return to the melodic hard rock that earned the band its greatest fame. While the band had released both a live album, Live All over the Place, and Black Like Sunday, which consisted of newly recorded versions of songs they wrote in the `80s during the interim, Ogre Tones would be the band's first album of new material in four years. The time away from each other concentrating on solo projects is evident in this release as the band hasn't sounded this hungry since 1994's Dogman album. Many fans have called Ogre Tones a return to glory, placing it alongside Gretchen Goes to Nebraska as their best album. While it's not quite that good, Ogre Tones is a strong album from King's X that shows their strong musicianship and harmonies intact while debuting a noticeable maturity in the songwriting on the album's second half.
4-0 out of 5 stars Give this a chance...
King's X has been one of my favorite pet bands since I first heard Goldilox on a college radio station shortly after their first release. Since then I have eagerly waited for each release, rarely been disappointed, and always gratefully rewarded.I was planning to buy this anyway, but was hesitant after reading some of the reviews. First of all,can we please all stop wishing that they'd remake your own personal favorite disc? Do you really want that? Yes, Gretchen's my favorite too, but they've already been there/done that. I was,at first,a bit let down that Ogre Tones wasn't what I expected. The songs were fairly short by KX standards, and there weren't too many extended instrumental breaks. OK, I thought, they're going for a different direction on this one. I realized after a few listens that there was something there that drew me in. I now realize that each song would not have sounded out of place on any of their more recent releases. So while perhaps not fulfilling the total disc continuity of some of our favorites, the songs stand on their own merits and in my opinion deliver the quality the fans want. I am not surprised that King's X fans, who by virtue of their excellent taste, are extremely discerning...but c'mon, give these guys a break. This is not some thrown together crap. They are not trying to appeal to MTV et al,so even if it isn't like your favorite, please give it a chance. I know I hated Mr. Bulbous at first, then I happened to have it on a long drive and I finally got into it. If nothing else, let's support these guys who've given us so much, and if you've ever been to one of their concerts you have felt the love they have for us fans. You should find that you like the songs individually even if as a whole it lacks a concept or common thread.

5-0 out of 5 stars King's X definetly underrated but loved by the lucky!
These guys have it all, musicianship, talent, stamina and creativity. That is why you probably wont hear them on the radio....name me one station (they are all corporately owned these days) that plays creative music that is actually written and performed by musicians?

5-0 out of 5 stars Jump5 is the real deal on this cd!
Jump5`s "Why Do I Do" really had a big influince on me.It has to be my favorite song on the cd.Jump5 is a great contemporary group that sends out a positive message. You may also want to check out some of their other songs:Spinnin Around,All I Can Do,Wonderful,or God Bless The U.S.A.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE ONLY REASON I'M RATING IT 4 STARS IS BECAUSE...
Wow Hits 2005 is better, but this is a really good collection of songs that I would recommend for anyone. I really enjoyed most of the songs, (the only one I wasn't quite sure about was 'Phenomonem' by Toby Mac, it was kind of... weird). But other than that I really enjoyed all the songs on the CD and (I could rave on and on about it and bore you to death, but I think I have said enough!) Buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST WOWs!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars i love mel
I met Mel at Philly folk fest, several yrs. ago.
5-0 out of 5 stars Folk-pop singer-songwriter of the early seventies
Born Melanie Sagfa but only using her first name for her music, Melanie burst on the music scene in 1969. In 1970, she had top ten hits in Britain and America with different songs - Ruby Tuesday, a Rolling Stones cover, in Britain, Lay down (Candles in the rain) in America.
5-0 out of 5 stars Melodic Pop & Moving Folk
Although she emerged from the folk/singer-songwriter boom of the Woodstock generation, Melanie's music has always had more of a pop edge to it. This excellent collection includes most of her hits - with the exception of Bitter Bad - and the cream of her popular album tracks. It kicks off with the novelty song (and her biggest hit) Brand New Key, followed by her soulful and moving version of Ruby Tuesday which alone is worth the price of the album. Her interpretation of Mr Tambourine Man is unique and delectable too; she never fails to elegantly make the songs of her others her own (Lay Lady Lay and Carolina On My Mind). Her own compositions are catchy and intelligent, like Nickel Song or poetic and perceptive, like Beautiful People. The only serious omission in my opinion is the song Ring The Living Bell Shine The Living Light, but otherwise this album is comprehensive enough. Somehow Melanie represents the essence of the 60s folkie, although this album demonstrates her pop prowess too. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great if you like edgy 90s rock worship
I recently bought this CD based on the glowing reviews here.To be fair, I was a bit disappointed when I listened to it.It's not a bad CD at all, but it's not a worship epiphany either. It has a few excellent tracks, some heartfelt narratives, and some noisy clinkers.
1-0 out of 5 stars I'm sorry, this album is stupid
I consider myself a Christ follower, this kind of music however just doesn't seem God inspired to me. I feel its more centered around feelings and the pop market than anything else. I was suckered into buying this cd from the other Amazon reviews and I want my money back. I do like track 7, except that it isn't an original song. Just because you are singing about God doesn't mean you should put it on a CD and sell it. God created those with talent and those without. Sonic flood = without.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
I first heard of Sonic Flood when saw them warming up for 'The Newsboys' concert several years ago. They combined reverent praise music with highly energetic rock.

4-0 out of 5 stars Strong 2nd album
Stryper rode the success of their first release "The Yellow and Black Attack" into a better recording experience for Soldiers Under Command and it shows. The album starts off with the title song and it doesn't stop moving from there.Their sound is and will always be the straight ahead hard rock of the 80's hair metal days.To say that Christian music hadn't seen anything like them is an under statement.I remember being around 12 years old hearing about these long haired, make up wearing, yellow and black spandex wearing people that threw out New Testament bibles at their concerts and thinking I have to check this out! Each and every song is good and has that mid 80's heavy metal sound that was copied and recopied by many bands. If you enjoyed the 80's hair metal days pick up this album.

4-0 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL STRYPER ALBUM
For fans of Stryper this is a must have album. It features essential songs by the band such as "Soldiers Under Command" "Reach Out" "Surrender" and "Together Forever" as well as underrated songs like "The Rock That Makes Me Roll" and "(Waiting For)A Love That's Real." This album is also one of Stryper's heaviest albums. This album was a huge success for Stryper and the title track was even transcribed in Guitar World magazine. That was unheard of at the time as Stryper was considered a Christian band and the magazine mainly covered secular artists like Ratt,Van Halen, and White Lion.
4-0 out of 5 stars In one word: Complete!

Thirty three years is a long time to rock for Jesus but that is Petra's extraordinary legacy. True pioneers in the genre of Christian rock, Petra was cranking out power chords and singing about salvation when church leaders were appalled that the "rock music" and the Gospel could be put together. Nearly 10 million albums sold, four Grammys, 10 Doves, and a spot in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame later, the band no longer rules the radio or the road, but they can still rock as evidenced on Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars SEEN AND NOT HEARD,COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER
I like Petra and if you are on this page then that probably means you do do. The title to the review just means that I could not believe what I heard on this cd after seeing how good Petra can really play. I have waited a long time for a live album from this band since I saw them on the Beyond Belief tour and could not believe the energy of this band and how loud they were. With that said this album is not the Petra live album I thought it would be. I wish they put together one around the Beyond Belief/Unseen Power time period as it would have been a much better live album. This just does not have the sound we all know Petra for. I normaly do not like keyboards in rock music. Petra is the exception to the rule as the keyboard is part of the sound that has made Petra what they are. This live album is missing that. In my opinion you cannot do the song "Creed" justice without the keyboards in it. Why they did not ask have John splay keyboards for this entire show makes no since to me as it would have made a BIG difference on this album.
4-0 out of 5 stars Best Way to Go Out
I was afraid for a long time that Petra would not release another live concert album. Good thing for us they did.
5-0 out of 5 stars A fitting end for a great band...
I have always been a fan of Petra, since I first began listening to them in the early 1990's.Their role in the establishment of Christian music as a legitimate and viable form of Christian artistic expression is undisputed, and their legacy as front-runners for today's billion dollar industry is remarkable.

3-0 out of 5 stars Stryper - Reborn
I've been a long time Stryper fan, so the new album has given me mixed feelings as it has alot of old fans.
4-0 out of 5 stars Wailing and Rocking For Jesus
After a roughly fifteen year hiatus, God's yellow and black attack have returned.Stryper may only have hints of their glammy black and yellow-striped spandex lingering around, but their sound is still intact. With "Reborn," Stryper proves that a band, Christian or secular, doesn't have to stray too far from an old formula in order to work.Although there is a little bit more edge (a welcome change, in my opinion), this is still just good ol' fashion glam rock.Stryper is louder than ever, and secular contemporaries such as Poison and Ratt had best get out of their way.Just a glance at the cover proves that even a Christian band can make a statement just as garish and gory looking as the best serving of guys like Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails.
1-0 out of 5 stars Reborn?
In the 80's and early 90's I was a die hard Styrper fan. But as the band broke up and music evolved over the years, I may have changed somewhat too. However, when I heard that Stryper reunited, and came out with a brand new album, I was very anxious to hear it. Boy was I dissappointed. This album has absolutely no punch. "It's not their best stuff" is putting it nicely. Those who say they have a more "edgier" sound, makes me curious to know if we are listening to the same album. In fact I still believe that "Against The Law" was their best album, which I still listen to today from time to time. "Reborn" is a good album lyrically, and typical Stryper style, but musically I rank it right next to "In God We Trust", thus my rankings of the best Styrper albums are as follows:

5-0 out of 5 stars hell yes!!!
i think its probably the best cd of 2006
5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!!DIVINE PERFECTION!!!!!!! And this is only their SECOND Album!
I can't believe nobody's reviewed this masterpiece, yet! These guys are already BETTER than Unearth, almost as good as All That Remains and Trivium, and head and shoulders above Killswitch Engage. War of Ages is a very new band, they have formed just last year, but their skills, songwriting, solos, and knack for tasty melodies puts them right up with the best of thrash metal, and folks, I am thinking Megadeth's (my all time favorite band!) best era: "Rust in Peace/"Countdown to Extinction". Sure, they are no doubt a Metal/Hardcore band, but a very innovative, and creative one. It's hard to pick a favorite song, but I've managed to distinguish "Rise from the Ashes" because of the awesome melody, and amazing guitar work. Seriously, the last time I heard something that addictive was the new All That Remains "Fall of Ideals". If Trivium's "Crusade" is as good as the two, I am going to have a hard time picking the best album of the year! Anyway, if you are familiar with WOA's debut album, then you remember that the songs were great, but the sound was a little muddy and flat. Well, this record not only establishes a new, very powerful, and heavy sound, but kicks up everything: music, songwriting, variety, structure, solos, musicianship, technicality, and vocals, as well as the brutal breakdowns a very high notch. Oh, and I can't forget the lyrics, because whereas the debut had typical Christian lines, "POTW" is more hardcore with Christian overtones. They sing about human struggles we all must face, but from a slight Christian perspective. The entire package is very addictive and memorable, and the lyrics very uplifting, inspirational, and powerful. With the new War of Ages you just can't go wrong, I hope more Christian bands emerge if they are as good as this and The Showdown. Meanwhile, this is my second best CD of 2006 VERY closely with the new All That Remains. I can't recommend both albums enough, especially if you like old Metallica, Megadeth or even In Flames "Whoracle" era. BUY THIS NOW along with the "Fall of Ideals" All That Remains, and lamb of god's "Sacrament"! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Praise!
Praise all the artists in this album for a truly Christian but suitable for the secular ear album!
5-0 out of 5 stars the passion shines through
Alright, I wasn't the one to think that a movie like "The Passion of the Christ" (which I did cry when I saw it, like everyone else who was with me when I saw it) would have a soundtrack with actual songs... I thought it would be an instrumental CD. However, while on this lovely website :) I found this CD while looking for stuff on P.O.D. (featured on the CD), bought it, and never regretted it.The tracks on this CD are:

5-0 out of 5 stars buy it!
fantastic collection of some of his greatest hits including two new songs that should get plenty of airplay. a couple of listens to "right where you are" and "maker of the road" and you will be singing them all day long. michael never disappoints with his music and this newest cd continues that winning tradition.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a voice!
Michael English has thee best voices in Christian music. This greatest hits collection shows his vocal talent. The new song Right Where You Are is another great song with a great hook and chorus.I think that Michael really got black balled by so-called christians. How are they to judge him.So what, he made a mistake just like every single one of you do.He was totally mistreated by the christian community. This is why I choose not to go to church or surround myself with hypocrites anymore.Michael is just a man.He is also a terriffic voice in music. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
Got this CD at one of their concerts - if you get a chance to see them live go! They were all out in the hallway of the arena to sign autographs for quite a while which was really cool too! Great funky get 'em go music. It's a pump up kind of album. Best [...] dollars i've spent in a while!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
If you're looking for something different and you like a mellower rock style then definitely check these guys out. They're pretty good.

5-0 out of 5 stars WORTH EVERY PENNY!
This is the album The Newsboys have not been able to top but should try to,although "Thrive" was a little close, but not close enough. The Newsboys sound like a full band here all the way through the disc, not leaving behind one bit of filler."Lost the Plot"is my personal favorite, the message is so "in your face""Reality","Breakfast",the title song, are all superb, to say the least. This album along with d.c.Talk's "Jesusfreak" are essential to any serious cd collection,really.............Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best From Newsboys!
I think this is the best album made by the Newsboys. This was made while Stve Taylor was still writing lyrics for them. And if you know Steve Taylor's style it generally has some sarcasm which makes you think a little while you listen to the great sound of the music. Breakfast is a real classic song which shows off the talent of both Steve and Peter. If you like the way the Newsboys sound then you will like this album.

5-0 out of 5 stars This one is so cool!
I love this CD so,so much! Now,for my own little comments on each song:

5-0 out of 5 stars Another awesome one from Jonah 33
When I first heard "Faith Like That," the title cut from their debut CD, I knew I had to get the CD and hear the rest. I was not disappointed, so much so that I would be hard-pressed to pick a fav from the debut CD. "Faith" is awesome; "Watching You Die," with its gritty edge, sticks in my head; "All For You" - another killer; and then there's Working Man's Hands, nearly brings me tears. So when the second CD was released, I didn't even hesitate to grab it. Even better than I could have hoped! Every single song is awesome! I love how they have a slight edge, but still seem to show a "mellow-ness" as well. I love every track on this CD! The new Kutless and this latest Jonah are just about all I listen to since I picked them up; I like them both that much. If you liked the first CD, don't hesitate to get this one as well. You won't regret it. Also, check out the latest Kutless - Hearts of the Innocent.
