Editorial Review

One of the most unmistakable voices in contemporary Christian music, Bryan Duncan spotlights his hottest singles from the '90s on this pleasing hits retrospective. Whether he's belting out a soaring chorus or reaching a deep groove in a soulful ballad, the smooth and classy cool that Duncan has exuded since his early days with the Sweet Comfort Band is all over this package. Five tracks from 1993's Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Only Because of What Is NOT on the CD. . . .
First of all, let me clarify my four-star rating: for what's on the CD, it is a five-star collection--not a bad song in the set (amazingly!!). However, having been a huge Bryan Duncan fan since MERCY and having all of his CDs from before that album, whoever makes the decisions could have included a couple of "older" songs to round it out. I'm not sure which I would have picked to leave off, but I would have come up with something (maybe "Things Are Gonna Change").4-0 out of 5 stars Totally uplifting!
When I lost my child, I was feeling really alone. The song 'I'll Not Forget You' totally lifted me spirits, and made me realize that I'm not the only one who had experienced a loss. Beautiful lyrics and music. If you have lost a child, this album is definetly for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars So much soul-it touches my heart
I've been getting into a lot of alternative, r&b, and country artists who sing Christian music lately. I enjoy them all but sometimes forget how much I enjoy good clean Christian pop with slick soulfulness and smoothvocals. That's why I'm so glad I bought this CD. Bryan Duncan's music hasreally touched my life over the years though I never owned a CD of his tillI bought "Love Takes Time".The song 'A Heart Like Mine' made mewant to cry the first time I heard it; it is absolutely a beautiful song, and at the time I first heard it I was going through one of those days whenI felt unworthy/unloved and then here's Bryan singing about God's amazinglove for us no matter what we are like. I was bawling needless to say. 'YouDon't Leave Me Lonely' has the same effect; like 'A Heart Like Mine', it isa gorgeous smooth production of a song. When you think about people youlove who died or you lost contact with them, the lyrics of 'You Don't LeaveMe Lonely' just lifts you up when you feel sad about how much you missthem. Those songs are my two favorite Duncan songs, but every other hitsong from his past albums that has been collected here on "Love TakesTime" is wonderful. What makes Duncan's songs so powerful and touchingto the heart is that he has a smooth polished voice without any scratchy orraw sound to it, yet it is still a powerful voice without any weakness evenso. He combines the voice with the slick smooth soul sound of the music, and it just sounds so beautiful together that I feel like crying thinkingabout the awesome love of God and the beauty of Duncan's songs. Duncan'smusic is inspiring and life changing; "Love Takes Time" isdefinitely worth every penny you spend on it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great CD....praise the Lord!
Hip Hope Hits 2006 represents the Christian hip-hop community with this latest installment. Some of the best artists from Hip Hope Hits 2005 are back, along with a few new heads.Highlights include Grits with "If I", the infectious LA Symphony tune, "Dance Like", KJ-52's thought-provoking, "I Can Call on You", DJ Maj (collaborating with record producer/MC Liquid Beats) on "Love (So Beautiful)", Liquid Beats' Latin-fueled, "One Time" (featuring rapper Syntyst), Atlanta's own Mars Ill, with the New York-inspired "Sound Off", Shonlock's "Pushing Through", Manafest's "Let It Go" and legendary Christian MC T-Bone gets the party jumping with the Buster and Shavoni-produced, "Bounce".Some new tunes include some by Gotee Records alumnus Verbs ("New Day" featuring Syntyst) and John Reuben with "Bobblehead".New artist spotlights The Procussions with "Introducing...What's Your Name (Remix)", Catherine "Catt" Gallop (one of Grits' featured background singers from Dichotomy A & B, and a recording artist on their 5E Entertainment label) with the soulful song, "Fear No Evil", featuring Grits member, Teron "Bonafide" Carter and legendary underground hip-hop supergroup, 4th Avenue Jones, hits them upside the head with "Fabulous Dramatics".
5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
I'm a consumer of many christian rap albums, i got 2005 (which is also an amazing cd), and just bought 2006 and can't stop listening to it. it has a more R$B sound to a lot of the songs but its very diverse like that. Many artist from the last hip hope hits appear on this album, like pigeon john, t-bone, dj maj, john reuben, 4th avenue jones, LAS, KJ-52, Mars-ill, toby mac, verbs, liquid and of course grits. There is however a couple of new artist on the cd. There are a lot of other great christian rap artist maybe not as well known. Higher Ground: Hip-Hop Reformed & Reborn is another cd i would suggest to get to listen to other artist. Also are no artist from the cross movement, they all have really good separate cds out. The DVD is alright that comes with the cd, i just wish there were more music videos from these artist.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great new album
HipHope 2006 is a great album. I've got already an earlier edition from HipHope, and it is my most favourite cd. This record is that good as wel, and maybe even better. I like to hear music like DJ Maj, Grits, LA Symphony and T-bone, so this album gives me a lot of good hiphop songs with at the same time good christian lyrics. If we had no christmas in one month I would buy it now!

GRITS, need i say anything else. out of eden. peace!!!!!!! "everyone is invited to the circle come on in" GRITS nay sayers run like hell "kittie"

4-0 out of 5 stars Mirror of Outkast
These guys are very good, even though they are a christian group. From my experience alot of christian groups just don't cut it when it comes to producing hardline music, but Grits are a different story. If you like Outkast you would definatly like Grits. Check out Cross Movement, KJ-52, and John Reuben as well if you like Grits but these guys are very good.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not biblically sound....but its still a good album
I listened to whole album. there were a few tracks that were ok...but for some reason this did not strike me as a chrisitan hip hop album .It was more positive hip hop than Christian. They did reference a few scriptures but that was about it. "Slow down hold up, i want you to be mine, we can hook up and get married" ummmmm sounds like a pick up line..rather thana good standing christian man approaching a christian woman.

5-0 out of 5 stars DA BEST RAP EVER( NO KIDDIN)
THIS CD IS SO HOT. You have to buy it man. Best Christian rap cd ever. Mr. Solo, Tikk Tokk, and Chily Baby are hot in this cd. These guy used to be gangstaz but it is cool that they are Christian now cause then I wouldn't of enjoyed this cd. It has West Coast groove to it. Real gangsta rap. CHeck out #3, I Call Your Name.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good beats, but not enough Satan
Being THE definitive hiphop encyclopedia that I am, I decided to give this album a try - especially for the fact that I know my Chrisitian Gangsta Rap like no one else in the states.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Underground...
Yeah, it's a good CD but it's not really my taste. I guess it's street-gospel-hip-hop... so it's not really my style but if you're into any one of the groups ull like the variety (the music seems to be the same all around.)
4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoy the Variety
I really enjoy the variety of artists on this CD. My favorite songs are "Raw & Uncut" "You & Me" "Holy Ghost Party" and "Praise Him"I'll definetly have to check out the 2nd Holy Hip Hop cd.

3-0 out of 5 stars I liked volume 2 better: ***1/2
I say that because i bought the 2nd disc 1st. And i must say, Volume 2 had the better content. But, This volume had some good songs as well. Not all of this cd is christian rap. There's also some gospel r&b as well. The best songs are Izrael's ''Focus'' [Best song on this compilation], R. Jones' ''I Pray'' [Quite a powerful song], Dynamic Twins ''This Is Me'', And Ziklag's ''Raw & Uncut'' [Which sounds so much like a Lil Jon song]. This is a decent christian rap compilation. But, as i said before, Volume 2 is better. But, Either way you're getting a compilation full of talented artists who actually got something to say unlike your average rapper who you can hear a mile away on any rap radio station in america. It's worth checkin out. Hope the review helped. Stay up, Be blessed by jesus christ. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A good christian rap compilation that should appeal to christian rap fans
This christian rap compilation is tight and it features some talented artists that i would like to hear individual albums from. This is a great cd to listen to if you need some good rap music that glorifies god INSTEAD of the garbage you hear from rappers like 50 cent, Eminem, Chingy, Ludacris, etc. Reccomended songs from this cd are: Sean Slaughter's ''Die Daily'', The Preachaholicz' ''Club Blazer'' [Which sounds like it could've easily been a lil jon song] , 2Five's ''In Da Streetz'' [The best song on here], and Karusso's ''Why I Write''. It's true that Christopher Martin aka Play From Kid N Play is one of the producers of this project. I wish to find the 1st volume to this compilation cause this music just makes me even prouder to be a christian. Be blessed. Amen
4-0 out of 5 stars Holy Hip Hop-Round 2!Praise the Lord!
"Holy Hip Hop: Taking the Gospel to the Streets-Vol. 2" is the follow-up to the highly successful "Holy Hip Hop-Vol. 1".Produced by Christopher "Play" Martin (of Kid 'n Play fame) and C.J. Wickman, it tries hard to continue the success of its predecessor. The messages are still there-to give the Lord the ultimate praise, but there's some new acts carrying on the message to all of the Lord's people. The first track by The Preachaholicz, "Club Blazer", helps to get the disc off to a good start, while songs by 2Godio ("World Listen"), Karusso's "Why I Write", Rhymes Elect and LaTisha Spence's "Love Concept", F.I.R.E.'s thumping "Dis My Life" and 2Five's street anthem, "In Da Streetz", helps to round out the sound.Other highlights are Sean Slaughter with "Die Daily", The Spiritual Lyricist and M. "Sonny Smith"'s "No Greater Love", Indascreet's catchy "Miracles" and the bumping hidden "Bonus Track" by King Ray keeps the CD bumping, bumping!Prizm's radical "Watch Ya Back" helps to put the song into perspective about who's side we all should be on and Andre Williams returns with the familiar voice as the MC in between songs. In conclusion, all of the artists on this are new to the Christian hip-hop rap game.Without any of the artists from the first one, it makes this release alright to listen to.Don't just blow off this release because it still praises the Lord nevertheless and the artists gave their all with this.If you have the first one, then pick up this one too. This CD is worth it.Praise the Lord! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the first, make sure you snag "Jesus Freak" as well.
I really like this cd. Although dc talk has changed alot with free at last, this cd is not all that bad. I beg you to try it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Guilty nostalgic pleasure
Hearing this album now reminds me of the sound of 'The Fresh Prince' Will Smith back when he was still paired up with DJ Jazzy Jeff. It's very pop-friendly hip-hop employing the trappings probably more so than being a legit "rap" album. If you keep that in mind, then it's aging no worse than other pop-rap of the time. The group proclaimed their sound as "rap, rock, and soul": with Toby "M.C. Swirl" McKeehan supplying the rap, and Kevin "K-Max" Smith and Michael "Comfy" Tait the rock and soul textures. The rock is decidedly the lesser third of the equation, really only coming to the fore on "Walls" and "No More".
5-0 out of 5 stars The Only Rap Album I Ever Loved
During my last year in high school, I loved this album. It even made me like rap, at least for a few years. Those who know me, know how shocking that statement is!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hope is an endangered species!
Some wars in our world seem to have been and still be eternal and their cruelty is beyond our ability to imagine how men, women and even if not often children can sink and delve into such unhuman acrtivities. You can try to look for causes, motivations or even explanations, but you will only find pretexts, false pretenses, in one word nothing that can really stand the challenge of truth. Darfur in Sudan is one of these conflicts whose origin has long disappeared in our memory and whose end we cannot even conceive. But our worst feeling is the conviction that there is nothing we can do, that we are powerless in front of these two parallel instincts, that to kill and that to survive, to kill to survive and to survive to kill. This CD is a voice that comes up from human consciousness and its only objective is to ask for, preach even and for sure defend peace for Sudan, for Darfur, a peace that has definitely never existed for the human communities living in this territory, even in the memory of their oldest members. And here an adventure can start because it is the voice of a human soul. A voice that slams its words, raps its sentences, disentangles its blues, weaves the lace of its gospel, in Nuer as much as in Arabic, to African as much as Arabic music, borrowing all the styles that can intermingle in the vast auditoriums of the world to produce a feeling of estrangement that is so great that we finally feel at home, we finally feel we have reached the destination that had been ours for so long after a voyage that can only give man's soul the strength and the life it needs to reconquer its control over history and death. The power of this music comes from the long rivers of blood in which it was steeped with the vital hope and the unshaking faith that one day the springs of the Nile river will be reborn pure and clear providing children with the water in which they can relearn how to bathe and domestic animals with the desire to come and drink without taking the risk of a criminal bullet roaming around for a target.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Peace Call & Deft Grooves of Ceasefire
Southern Sudanese Emmanuel Jal and Northern Sudanese Abdel Gadir Salim are the epitome of contrast. First, they represent the opposite ends of their country's political/religious, the former a young Christian, and Salim a Muslim and an elder of his country's music tradition.
5-0 out of 5 stars Makes me grateful for what I have
I bought this CD after hearing a program on NPR highlighting Emmanual Jal. I intended it to be a gesture of support and wasn't expecting anything out of the CD. Once I put it in my CD player though, I couldn't get enough. The music is upbeat, and fun to listen to. Additionally the lyrics that i can understand (only 25% is in english) invoke a deep sense of gratitude for the wonderfull country we live in here in the US as well as a sense of moral obligation to help those living in less blessed conditions. ... For those of you that think the Ras ...[is no good]. Ya'll are trippin'. This fool is on fiya for God and knows how to rap. THis cd is worth buyin'. Trust me. The best songs are: DOWN SOUTH, FILL THA BLANKS, GUNS IN THA AIR, HAVE YOU ANY LOVE, THA DAY AFTER, AND WHO'S THA GREATEST.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's ok
I'm feeling this CD a little bit.I'm not really a Lil' Raskull fanmyself. The real regulator on Grapetree in my eyes is Antonious.Pick upAntonious - Principalities and your Lil' Raskull CD will soon be pickin updust in comparison.Dont get me wrong.Lil Raskull comes out hard on someof the tracks, but I just can't get into it. I like the second half ofthe tracks better than the first half cause he sounds more relaxed andfocused on the message he's trying to deliver. Some of the songs like"Down South" and "Who's the Greatest" just get old andrepetitive very quick though. If I were you, I'd pick up Principalities byAntonious or Christology by The Ambassador.Save your money on this one. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars FROM CHRONIC TO GG'S
This CD will go down in HISTORY as one of the greatest Christian Rap Albums. In fact, even T-Bone no disrespect, had nothing on the GG's in early 1990's. If you came from the ghetto, barrio, hood, or whatever you call it, and Jesus saved you, this is what you were listening to. If you were a Chronic fanatic, this is what kept you in church and you know it. I thank God for this CD and all the way to the latest, The Flood, GG's have not lost the heartbeat of reaching the Gangtaz. If you love Rap and Jesus, this CD is a most have.A bit of warning, the phrase 'nigga' is used often. It's ghetto style Rap, better get used to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pioneers! ... and yes in yo face!
Yes this is very much early 90's old school gangsta rap, but it will always be a classic. I grew up in church so I was not allowed to listen to the secular stuff, so I was always disappointed with what Christian rap was producing in those days. So when these guys came out, I was completely blown away! I had to keep reading the lyrics just to see if these guys were really Christian. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised. Not only did these guys have serious skillz on the mic, but these guys were not afraid to be in your face about God, life, where they came from, etc. These guys paved the way for Christian rap/Hip hop today. And to think that these guys were former gang bangers- "Bloods" and "Crips" is unbelievable... those guys hate each other, but only God can change the lives of two rival gang members and put them in the same group... Amazing! Their other albums are definite must have's for your collection, but "Gang Affiliated" is a classic, a collectors item. So grab it and keep it in your collection.
5-0 out of 5 stars Eastcoast Lovin' Real WestCoast Music
THIS Was the very first Christian Rap album that I had. For many years has a christian it was hard to not listen to Non-Christian music because none of them was the style of music that I liked and could relate too on my views of Christianity. Then my Homeboy at the time introduce me to this group the O.G.G's (Origal Gospel Gangtas) for those who don't know. All I liked at that time was WestCoast music listening to Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Ice Cube, Easy-E, and The Dogg Pound I couldn't help myself, but to listen to them and buy the secular music, but after that. It all changed for me. My Homeboy and I made the promise to never buy secular music again. And to this day Thanks to the O.G.G's I haven't. A life changing album. Give it a chance and it'll change your life. Besides there's nothing like old school as this album came out in 1994. So be ready for the realist album out there. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Different than their debut, but a strong release
First off, this isn't really a "new" album in the sense that it was recorded recently.Eyedollartree was originally slated for release in 1999, but the group's record label went out of business that week (ouch - bad luck).Anyhow, Blood of Abraham finally get a proper release for a great album, and the world benefits. This album has more of an organic feel than their 1993 debut "Future Profits".The tracks often have a funkier groove, while the lyrics are a bit more abstract.
5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting CD, Worth Checking Out
Review-This is a great CD and I hope people don't sleep on this one. It's a real hip-hop album in the sense they aren't talking about a lot of the same ole things like bling and b*&ches like 50 Cent and a lot of these other mainstream rappers. The album opens up with the song "Know The Half." Blood of Abraham are a very musical group. You won't hear a lot of samples and speeded up tracks. The beats are a driving part of their songs. In many ways they remind me of Souls of Mischief back in the day. Another thing interesting about this CD is that it includes the lyrics, not something you often see with a rap CD. Guest artists on the album include will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas, Divine Styler and Kool Keith. The CD also includes a bonus DVD which includes EyedollarTree Short, Dangerous Diseases Video, and Calling all Citzens video. I conclude with they are very, very unique. The interior and exterior cover art is interesting.I have never heard of them until I received this CD, but I am glad I have it.

2-0 out of 5 stars No offense but...
Sorry I have to say this WOW disk is a yawner. I would pass this one up and buy the others. I love WOW other than that.

5-0 out of 5 stars First WOW CD and it was a WOW!
This is the first WOW CD I purchased and I was quite pleased. The songs, "Great Divide" and "Class of '95" were just right up my alley.I have purchased a few other WOW CDs...but this is still my favorite.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ow 1996
As big a fan as I am of the Wow CD's, this one was probably the weak link of all of them because there was no variety in the styles of each song and they all sounded the same. However, I do like DC Talk "I wish we'd all been ready."All in all, the songs were just a little TOO mellow.I wouldn't recommend it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Yall did it again
All the trackx are bangin' the message on every joint is lightening!! The music what can i say hot like momma's bunz...
5-0 out of 5 stars To GOD be the Glory!
Man, I rate this CD with 10 stars because it is that good. Exodus really has saved a lot of sinners and still is. If everyone heard this CD, God's Word would be fulfilled. I gospel rap too and this has helped me to manifest my annointing in a very big way! I really suggest that you should buy this CD. They don't just rap, but they apply the Word to their ministry. I got saved a long time ago, but this CD has renewed my mind, fully. Actually, while I'm writing this, I am listening to their CD. I have been, and I'm still blessed by this CD. I know some rappers that are lukewarm in their rap ministry. They would do secular, then gospel, but Gospel Gangstaz really are hot for the Lord! They are truly annointed!!! GOD Bless!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Of The Best
The gospel gangstaz are in my opinion, the best gospel rap group out there, and The Exodus, in my opinion, is the best of the four albums they have so far. I have all of them and it's nice to see that they have returned to their original "Gangsta" style. Their last release was the bomb, too, but they said that B-Rite records was trying to reinvent them and I noticed that the album was geared more toward blinging in some cases than about the ghetto and the gangs. The Exodus is truely a Gangsta album. In songs like "Watch, Pray, Live Holy" and "Heaven Awaits Us", they tell us hpw they feel about the people they left behind, in the gangs and stuff. They tell us that they were like that, and changed and sing strictly to reach the people that need to be reached. In songslike "A-O" and "Caught Up" they tell us about the mentality of those on the streets and caught up in gangs and of the pain that it will cause them. they tell us about mistakes they made in "My Lesson", "Scream" and "Change" and how they corrected those mistakes. They tell of their mission in "Gangstaz Don't Dance", "Gamgsta'd Up" and "Bounce With Us" and they warn us of Pitfalls in "Bad Company" and the two hilarious interludes.

Editorial Review

As hip-hop eats itself and continues to digest everything else around it, so does KRS-One. After performing every other recognizable rap subgenre, from "gangsta" to "battle" and "conscious," the Blastmaster goes gospel this time around. On "God Is Spirit," he teams up with talented gospel MC and Notorious B.I.G. soundalike B.B. Jay with decent results, while "Power" sounds way more gospel than hip-hop. The themes of redemption and rebirth run throughout the album, especially on "Tears," which is dedicated to the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and "Good-Bye", which pays homage to fallen hip-hop soldiers like Scott La Rock and Eazy E, among others. You do get a small taste of the rapper you grew to love on "The Conscious Rapper," a brilliant essay that takes you through the trials and tribulations of a "conscious" MC, so the album's not entirely bad. But the problem is the beats. KRS-One self-produced more than a quarter of the album, while the rest of the underwhelming rhythm tracks cooked up by mediocre knob twiddlers Domingo and DJ Tine Tim ultimately sink this project. 1-0 out of 5 stars KRS's weakest entry into his library
I have always been a huge fan of Kris Parker.I like what KRS has done.I like what he is doing.I like the fact that he has never looked to what the masses are putting out and has instead tried from day one to promote positivity. Therefore, I find that this effort is laudable in its attempt to bring KRS's spirituality to an audience that has been listening to him for decades.
5-0 out of 5 stars Took a little bit to get used to, but its dope.
I really don't like gospel music. Actually it is my least favorite music. But on this album once you get past the slight tinge of gospel to it, it is dope. My main problem with the album is I don't really care for the gospel type hooks on certain songs. But be aware this type of hook isn't on every song. When you get down to the lyrics and subject matter, this is a superior album. I wish he hadn't really added the religious aspect because you get these so called "christians" judging his faith and what he believes in when they don't understand christianity to begin with. If you are a KRS fan like am from the beginning, this album belongs in your collection. I would let my child listen to this album before some of these other albums that are sending messages to have my son put in jail.

5-0 out of 5 stars KRS One and the Temple
This is one of my favorite Hip-Hop albums of ALL-TIME and I love me some Hip-Hop.Honestly, it is ridiculous how good it is.Some of the beats come off a little corny, but the style and fluidity of KRS's rapping overshadows that.A lot of people on here are saying KRS is a Five Percenter and doesn't believe in God.But obviously they haven't listened to him speak ever.Have you read Ruminations?Have you listened to Spiritual Minded?Obviously not.KRS is a true Christian and believes that Hiphop is the modern manifestation of Christ's teachings (that being peace, love, and unity...real Hiphop).

5-0 out of 5 stars Listening is a singable thing.....
One of the best, and in my opinion most underrated, voices in Christian music is Bryan Duncan. His voice can make even the worst lyrics worth listening to. Luckily for us, the lyrics on this album are outstanding.5-0 out of 5 stars Absolute brilliance
This CD is music at its best; poetry. I have listened to it countless times (ever since my dad got it 3 or so years ago). Apart from the song Joy is a Singable Thing (which is, by the way, better than some other band'shit single), it is all endlessly relistenable. Buy it if you ever likedgood music.

4-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful mix of lively, contemplative, and mellow tunes.
This CD is definitely a keeper. Bryan's soulful voice is best demonstrated on the mellow tunes. "Dying to Meet You" is a wonderful song that makes you think of the day when we will finally get to meet our Lord, butthe play on words makes the song even better. "No Greater Love"is also a great tune with a meaninful message. The final cut, "TakeHeart" is a beautiful song of hope and grace for those with a troubledheart. In between the slow songs are a mix of up-tempo tunes and Bryan'srich, clear voice is featured effectively. A beautiful CD--just buy it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best T-Bone CD Ever!!!
T-Bone is the man, and this is his best album ever. This cd is a classic in the Christian Rap world, it was recorded in 1993 one of Hip Hop best years. If you like Cypress Hill or latino rap in general, make sure you grab this one.The lyrics about God and his love are great, and the reality of the street life is shown on this album. The beats are dope and the Best song T-Bone ever recorded is here, Lyrical Assassin. Is great to see how T-Bone represents us latinos in this cd. T-bone is the best Christian Rapper ever.
