Editorial Review

It can't be said enough that DC Talk is one of the most relevant and critical forces of change in the history of Contemporary Christian Music. They brought the sounds and words of the streets into the consciousness of mainstream Christianity. And musically, they've done it in the most pleasing manner. This hits package is but a mere glimpse of the brilliance Toby McKeehan, Michael Tait, and Kevin Smith have displayed in so many styles throughout their 10-year career in DC Talk. There are beautiful ballads of forgiveness ("Between You and Me"), riveting rockers of conviction ("Jesus Freak"), and the quiet, stark realities of being role models ("What If I Stumble?"). New cuts "Say the Words (Now)" and "Chance" play up the sweet melodies these guys know so well. Older fans will enjoy the inclusion of "Luv Is a Verb" and "Socially Acceptable." As long as the group keeps its finger on the pulse of the mainstream and its heart focused on the Almighty, another decade of hits is a good bet. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Crossover Christian Record
To the audience used to Third Days' worship songs, like Offerings and Offerings II, Wired may come as a shock. Not once does any of the lyrics mention Lord, God, or Jesus. The listeners may feel disappointed hearing its "watered down" lyrics. Still, the album, in general, is solid. It gives good encouragements to those striving for fame, but failed. The song, "It's a Shame" has an especially poignant message about abusive relationships. As for the music, they sound good, but could use some improvement. Still, you won't feel sorry about buying the record.

4-0 out of 5 stars All-out Rock n' Roll by Third Day
Don't get me wrong - I'm a major Third Day fan, as evidenced by the number of other reviews on Amazon I've written on their albums. But this one doesn't strike me as being the pure genius that "Offerings II: All I Have to Give", "Time", or "Wherever You Are" did.
3-0 out of 5 stars Just Doesn't Do Anything For Me
I have always felt pretty neutral about Third Day.I don't love them and I don't hate them.To me, they're just alright.Their songs always have a great message and they are awesome about serving Jesus.I know that a lot of people love them and they are great witnesses. However, I feel like their songs aren't catchy enough. They do not make me want to sing along and share that experience of worship. So I just kind of sit back and get bored.

1-0 out of 5 stars Road Rage
All I can say is don't listen to these CD's while driving in heavy traffic. You don't want to be trapped in a car with THE SOPRANO.At some point someone should have said, "OK Doris, back away from the Mic and let someone else have a chance."Maybe she's married to the producer. And let's talk about the automated-percussion.I don't know about you, but I don't really think "I Love to Tell the Story" needs a lot of cymbals, but that's just me.I came to anticipate each and every cymbal crash, and I was not disappointed.Amazon should put this in the 2 for $5.99 bin.Makes this Lutheran girl long for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

4-0 out of 5 stars Holy Classics
This is a good compilation of general classic hymns.Handy to sing along with.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD Set..
I enjoy listening to these CDs. The voices in the choir are excellent and, just like my church choir, they sing all of the songs. I'm not looking for vocal variety, I just want to hear these wonderful songs again. I recommend this set to anyone looking for those classic feel-good hymns from childhood! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars We're fans.
For those not particularly interested in gospel singing, this CD may not appeal to you.We do enjoy the Gaithers and have several DVDs and CDs in our collection. We have especially enjoyed David Phelps who is no longer with the group, and we do miss his high tenor stylings that just make you want to stand up and clap.

4-0 out of 5 stars title says it ALL!!!
Really is almsot "The BEST" and yes, there are a few cool tunes missing....."I'm Gonna Sing" and "On The Authority" are strangely missing, though I'm guessing thid disc is about the best VOCAL arrangments, and not the all-out most enjoyable tunes......but just about there , the bad parts stop....this is an amzing collection of songs!!!!"Second Fiddle" is just spectacular. 4 and a half stars!

Editorial Review

Anne Murray, whose singular voice made her a country-pop icon in the 1970s and '80s, returns with a dual-disc set of 16 of her greatest hits, paired with 15 Tin Pan Alley pop standards. While her own signature tunes ("Snowbird," "Danny's Song") withstand time's brutal test in artistry and currency, Murray doesn't fare nearly as well with the pre-World War II tunes. She finds the modern blues heart of "What'll I Do," but she's often sidetracked by cheesy arrangements (the Dixieland treatment of "After You've Gone" is particularly onerous), and ultimately the collection fails to engage.Such hoary songs as "Dream a Little Dream of Me" and "You Made Me Love You" are too quaint and schmaltzy for a woman who came of age in the 1970s. Unlike the great Rosemary Clooney, who could infuse the most shopworn classic with new meaning, overall, Murray lacks the emotional resonance or experience in her voice to convey authenticity. Her corduroy alto remains a thing of wonder, however, and may make even her most casual fans yearn to hear it employed on a stellar album of contemporary material.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More standards from the Canadian songbird
At the outset, I've got to say that I am a very big Anne Murray fan. I, for one, though, am itching for an Anne Murray album of new material. The last such album came in 1996-- ten years ago.
3-0 out of 5 stars Greatest hits plus a mixed bag of American standards
Purchase this 2-CD set for the first disc, which features sterling remasters of most if not all of her greatest hits. The second disc holds far less appeal. Murrary warbles pre-WWII ditties like "What'll I Do" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". Problem is, she doesn't have the voice, the reach or the emotional resonance to perform most of them. With maybe two exceptions, they are performed in the most perfunctory manner; they sound like throwaways, whether she intended them to or not. If you thought this was going to be a sequel to CROONIN', her wonderful collection of post-WWII standards, you will be sadly let down. If you want to hear those songs modernized and done right, listen to Harry Nilsson's interpretations, available on both the original album A LITTLE TOUCH OF SCHMILSSON and the 2-CD Australian set, THE BEST OF HARRY NILSSON (and this includes SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW, which was cut from the original album).

5-0 out of 5 stars REAL DANCE TUNES FOR "COUPLES"...
This 2CD set just arrived - have played the first CD four times, just love it!!!Real dance numbers for couples who remember what it's like to dance "together" - back in the days when a guy held a gal and got around the dance floor.Anne Murray is a great singer and I go way back with her albums. On this her new CD "All of Me" she does wonderful arrangements of all those standards and classics.Just put in on, grab your partner, dance up a storm, or just sit and listen, or join in with Anne, harmonize away, takes you back!!!I recommend this CD to folks that are older than baby boomers - mostly because of the first CD - but the younger folks, they too could learn to love these tunes, so many new artits today have "seen the light" and are doing old the old standby songs, with great success! ... Editorial Review

Remember the guys in your school who were too smart and sarcastic for their own good? Put guitars on them with a punk-pop penchant and you’ve got Relient K, Canton, Ohio’s most famous import since the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The band’s third release is a thoroughly enjoyable romp of rambunctious buzz-saw guitars and smart-aleck lyrics churned out by singer Matthew Thiessen. Who else could get away with lines like "Let’s get emotional girls to wear mood rings/ So we’ll be tipped off when they’re ticked off" in the wildly clever "Mood Rings," or "Hoopes I did it again/ Relationships are something I can’t comprehend" from the suburban-boredom tribute "Hoopes I Did It Again." Yet, the band never loses sight of its faith in these matters, always finding God at the end of their collective ropes. The tight rhythm section of bassist Brian Pittman and drummer Dave Douglas shine again, laying a foundation upon which Thiessen and Matthew Hoopes blaze away on their 6-strings. Maybe all that time in the principal’s office did do the guys some good!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
Okay, for starters I got this CD with a different cover, it had all four cars in a junkyard on the front. The CD is....eh...hmm...AWESOME.

5-0 out of 5 stars A pop-punk CD that stands the test of time
3/4 of the cd's I own, without exception, rarely get played after a month or two. Some grow tiresome after just a few listens, others after more, but rarely do I listen to a cd 2 years after I buy it! Relient K's "two lefts don't make a right...but three do" is the exception to the 3/4 rule. This is truly one of the best pop-punk cd's I own, with great lyrics, chorus' and guitar parts. It's catchy and driving, but it's also got nice melodic moments to even things out. I don't even have to mention that replay value is very, VERY high.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Music, Powerful Message!
"Shout to the Lord: Platinum Collection" is a two-cd compilation of the very best from one of the most gifted, inspired worship bands in the world today (yes they are that good!). Based at Hillsong Church in Australia, this band, led by tremendously talented singer/songwriter Darlene Zschech. "Shout to the Lord" is the most well-known song from the album, but every song on both cds is amazing!5-0 out of 5 stars Platinum Collection Indeed
This certainly is a moving album, having you hopping around your house, jumping, dancing, and praising the Lord!(And I don't even attend a church like that!)I scratched up my first disc so I'm looking into buying this CD again, but it's so hard to find! It's a shame that it's hard to find because this CD is certainly a classic. This is Darlene Zschech and Hillsongs' best album with all of their best songs. This live album makes you feel as if you're really in a worship arena.I prefer the first disc, but both CDs are a great blessing.A must for anyone who loves praise and worship music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shout To The Lord, Wow What a beautiful and all True Song
I haven't purchased the CD yet, but I love the song "Shout To The Lord." This song will truly get your spirit lifted and you'll be so amazed that the song seems like it was writen just for you to sing. I've always been a skeptic of my own singing voice even though alot of people have told me differently, but the Holy Ghost led me to record myself singing wth this song on my own personal cassett recorder. Though I'm not Nashville or Branson or Hollywood material, I really felt for the first time in my life that my singing ability in this song was really good! Praise Be To God!!!!!!! Glory to the most Holy...amen and amen!!!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A CD you'll want to share
I bought this CD for "the Word" and was astounded by how amazing the entire CD was. It's helped me through some dark moments in my life by reminding me where to find the light at the end of the tunnel.I've given it to at least 6 people as gifts because everyone has these thoughts and feelings and it's comforting to know you're not alone.I even replaced one gift because that person lent it to someone else that was hurting and they didn't give it back. "Pain shared is Pain Halved; Joy shared is Joy Multiplied."

5-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes we buy the song, even if we don't buy the whole album
The song "He's Always Been Faithful To Me" is very good from many different perspectives.
5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable
This is very possibly the best Christian CD I've ever heard.I discovered Sara Groves last month at the Jars of Clay concert I went to (she opened for them...), and I was so ministered to by her openness about her relationship with the Lord and by her songs. So, the next day I ordered all her CD's, and although they all came at once, I wasn't able to get this one out of my CD player.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Gospel Legend is back with a brand new album titled Mighyt Wind.
This new album is explosive in a different manner because if you look at the list of all the feature artists you will think it is a compilation album. The album features Fred Hammond, Crystal Lewis, Karen Clark-Sheard, Marvin Winans Just to name a few. This album will get you singing along by track two which to me is a sign of a great gospel album.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing, amazing CD!
When I heard her first album, I was impressed with her voice. Now that I've heard her second I'm awed and amazed. Her voice (which was great before) has improved so dramatically, that while I could tell it was Bethany, I almost couldn't believe it. My personal favorite on the album is "Dreamer", which is a very inspiring song (and a track in a very inspiring movie!). Some others I especially liked were Hallejulah and All That I Can Do. 5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it's that good
Starfield's second album is a cut above their first, self-titled release. I'll admit that I was a huge fan of "Filled with Your Glory", the song that practically forced me to buy the first album, but I feel as though the songs on "Beauty in the Broken" portray a more mature band, one with a better grasp of musical composition, and a band that has begun to write starkly beautiful lyrics. The messages delivered through the music are phenomenal, and are a pleasant change from most of the music that comes out nowadays.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good sound, windy content
Starfield has been listening to the radio attentively.Their latest album shows a keen ability to maximize the pop sound - and the good pop at that.Aside from the outstanding production value, you'll hear songs that could have easily come from Coldplay, Switchfoot, or Chris Tomlin."Captivate" outright copies a Radiohead riff and melody.Plagiarism aside, the album is a good listen.
5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding

4-0 out of 5 stars wait this isnt a bad album
i just gave this album a listen and i going to say that this is far from being a bad album. man it amazes me like that other person said at how close-minded some people still are. honestly do they just LOOK for something to hate??? believe it or not not all chistians are exteremly conservative like people like to think of us as. now to that person that dissed kiki because of some of the production on this CD. this was HER album and HER songs.aight?? you got that? if she wanted to have dark child(who does also have a chritian label)produce the album then that is her business. if that is so evil would virtues new album(testimony) be evil as well?. this album was nice in beats and lyrics. some of the songs stood out to me bc i like the way she expressed her issues that she has dealt with and is dealing with. this album is dealing with christian YOUTH issues. now is this a praise and worship CD? no. but does that mean that this CD is w/o worth? ABSOLUTELY NOT! also about you hatin on yolanda adams singing that chaka khan song on BET. well i didnt think she would sing it either bc i had never seen her sing anything other than gospel but she did a great job. it was originally supposed to be someone else singing it on that show but that person couldnt do it so she did it at the last minute. hello the song wasnt nasty. so guess what? SHE DID NO WRONG. and you say you tired of ppl saying "we need to change to get young people".....IM SICK AND TIRED of bible thumping people that always wanna wear angel wings when they are only 1 foot away from hell theirselves. it makes me angry. and if you are opposed to that then you are probably going to oppose my review as well because i love gospel but guess what? I LOVE R&B ALSO(babyface, neyo, jaguar wright, angie stone, jon b, luther vandross, isley brothers, carl thomas, heather headley, jill scott, floetry, javier, donell jones, frankie j, blu cantrell, ciara, faith evans, erykah badu, india arie, chante moore, shanice, calvin richardson, teedra moses, cherish, SWV, brandy etc, etc, etc) so am i in sin? awww mannnn(sarcasm). look at some of the rnb artist that started off doing gospel(monica, mary j blige, aretha franklin) are they being evil? realize that not everybodys voice is suited for traditional gospel and kierra is one of those people. yeah her voice is good but it is not suited for traditional gospel sry to say it. also another agreement with another review i saw. we wont ever reach out to people when we are being that picky. we alwasy talking about somebody and what they doing wrong and we wonder why they dont become christians. well that's becuase they see the example of how we treat others. do you think they want anything to do with that? think about that. im out.
4-0 out of 5 stars Open your mind and your heart
I have been reading some of these reviews and I have to say taht I'm truly suprised at how close minded people are these days. This is a great album, positive messages, good beats, and great singing. So maybe she did use Darckchild, who as well has a christian label and Virtue being the first artist signed to it (if you like this cd, I highly recommend you get Testimony by Virtue). But you probably didn't know that did you? Anyways, why do people feel that just because someone produces other music that there is something wrong with them? Music comes from God and just because a song doesn't scream Jesus all over it doesn't mean that you shouldn't listen to it. She is reaching out to a group of people that like this style of music, which I am one. You cannot get away from the message that is behind the music, that's what it's all about. Sometimes we focus too much on the messenger and totally ignore the message.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Legacy Continues....
And the Clark Sisters legacy continues with yet another member. Ms. Kierra Sheard has come into her own on this cd. Not only has her voice matured but her choice of production for this recording fit her to a 'T'. The songs are impeccable to render the heart that is wayward to return to Christ who is the ultimate answer. 'Have What You Want' is truly an encouragement to those that don't feel worthy enough to continue their walk with Christ, her brother J. Drew lends a productive hand and rap in this one and the (2) of them are the dynamic duo of LT productions. I purchased the special edition, which features songs not on the original cd, songs like 'Here I Am' that answers the call to those commissioned to serve the Lord. I recommend this cd to everyone!!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars BIBLE SONGS
THESE SONGS WERE A BIG HELPFOR THIS FIRST YEAR SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER. SOME SONGS WERE EASY AND SOME WERE HARDER, THE EASY ONES WAS WHAT I NEEDED TO GET STARTED.

5-0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong with anything by Cedarmont Kids
Tonight I am ordering our second copy of Bible Songs and Hymns (both by Cedarmont Kids) because our first copies got a skip and we cannot live without them!!Our son (now 3) has loved anything by Cedarmont Kids since he was 1 1/2.The songs are classic - you will recognize almost all of them and a few of them will make you go, "Oh yeah!I remember that song!"Your kids will learn Bible stories and bibilical truths from this CD and - wow! - sing them back to you causing your heart to melt instantly. And as a welcome gift to parents, the songs are sung by kids making them extra appealing to your kids, but the voices are pleasant and joyful so you won't mind listening to this CD for the fifth time today in the van. These CDs are very affordable and the content cannot be beaten. That's why we own them all! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised!!!!!!
Wow, this Cd was such a pleasant surprise, I have a hard time listening to some gospel music because some have alot of screaming or the music is just too dull or noisy, but this CD kept me listening and singing the whole time, George Huff's voice is fantastic and some of the songs are so smooth.I can't wait for his next gospel CD,. thank you George!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars George Huff is an extremely good entertainer!
His music is deep, the music is slow-paced R&B. Which is fine but isn't everyone's cup of tea. You have to be an easy-listening mode, for me, it's kinda boring but others may really enjoy this album. Real Love is probably the most entertaining track & the kind of thing I could see him performing! but he has a soothing voice & is one of the nicest guys to come on AI! I don't think he could've won AI but I think he could've gone a little further but that's the past. but it's really up to the listeners tastes in music, I was just glad to support him when I bought his album!

The CD is a good CD. Give the brother a break!!!If we really get all technical, other than our lead + 3 part harmony, old time southern gospel singers, most of the music that has been in the gospel section for the last 25 plus years is a mix of contemporary r&b with God and Lord as substitutes for the word boy, girl, lady and oh-baby. NOW IF WE WANT TO TALK ABOUT ARTIST MASQUERADING, we have tons of rap and r&b artist out there that are giving all praise and glory to the creater that has given them this opportunity- and yet they are degrading women of color, advocating goup sex and multiple sex partners, glorifying prison life, the use of illegal and nonprescribed drugs, pretending that they don't know that they are sleeping with teenaged girls, and we still purchase the garbage that they call music. You go George Huff!!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars DON'T buy this if you want to listen to it on your computer
I enjoy Chris' music quite a bit.I won't pretend to be a music critic but his music is simply excellent.
3-0 out of 5 stars Come to Jesus
"Untitled hymn (Come to Jesus)" is a great song!
5-0 out of 5 stars From Opposite Sides of the Universe
"Run the Earth, Watch the Sky" is an exquisite set of pop tunes about faith and God.On most CDs, if there are 2 or 3 songs I really like, it's successful. On this disc, there are 6!"Wonder" is a joyful pop nugget with Chris' expressive baritone gently caressing the lyric, "Shall we dance from opposite sides of the universe? And we'll shine the glory behind all our spins & turns as we orbit our way through the sky."What a lovely picturing of man reaching for God and God for man!"My Cathedral" is a sweet acoustic melody about the joys of worshipping outdoors, "Here beneath the blue skies, I ran down to be baptized.""Circle Up" is a sweet melody with a delightful vision of men & angels all joined in worship, "Great & small, angels all & seraphim, grab a hand, twirl a dance, circle up & worship him!"It's a delightful track."Untitled Hymn" is a comforting melody that starts simple with piano before the strings come in as the song builds from loneliness to joy."Spare an Angel" is a song that touches a deep chord for those whose hearts are troubled and no human comfort seems to satisfy. It's an elegant statement of compassion."Me & Becky" is such a perky track that it makes me think it ought to be a TV theme song. While I've cited my favorites, none of the other tracks are weak. This set by Chris Rice is extremely strong with a positive delightful vision.Bravo! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing!!!!
I have only been listening to Avalon for about 2 years now and from what i have heard this is the best one yet!!! I first listened to them on the "Oxygen" album. I intstantly liked it and decided i wanted to check out more from them. I Bought the greatest hits album and again, was no disappointed!!...it was cool to see where they had come from as artist and to see the direction they were headed in. Then came "The Creed". I am so irritated to read reviews on here from people complaining about the departure of Cherri and Michael. If they truly felt God was leading them in a new direction, then as Christians and fans we should support that. On top of that, the sound of Janna, Jody, Melissa, and Greg is th strongest they have ever had. Janna and Jody are both powerhouse vocalist. With Cherri and Michael their voices were not that strong and so they blended into the background. Melissa and Greg both have powerful voices that match Janna and Jody, giving a full, and strong sound. The creed was a great album that deserved to be listened to without people whining over the loss of two members. Now stand is out and we find t his group topping themselves yet again. The sound on this record follows that of what you might hear on mainstream radio today. It has more of a Pop/rock vibe than a plain pop or dance sound as some of their previous music had. The vocals are amazing and the music is great. Anyone who says this is a bad cd purely because michael and cherri are gone is not really listening to the music!!....This album has by far the best vocal and instrumental sound of any of their albums to date!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh, my God!
I think this has to be the best Avalon album so far. It combines the heart rendering Orphans of God with the inspring We will stand. Of all the albums I've heard by this group this has to be the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Spectacular
I heard the album, and i loved it!! Even though they're not the same, since the other two members left. But, they're really united, and you can hear it in the songs!!, You really can hear every one of them singing! and the lyrics are wonderful, they really bring peace, and connects to God in a supernatural way!! ...
