3-0 out of 5 stars Not up to their usual standards
I'm really getting tired of the rock 'n worship craze that seems to have hit Christian rock over the past several years.Petra did something unique back in the late 80s and early 90s when they released their praise and worship albums because NO ONE ELSE WAS DOING IT.These days, though, everyone is doing it and with mixed results.
5-0 out of 5 stars Looking for the heart of (rock) worship, go no further
My 12 year old son and I went with one of his friends to the Baltimore "Rock the City" event 02 April 06 (3 days ago) not knowing what to expect; we'd been given tickets by our pastor.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worship, Vol. 2
I cannot wait for the next CD. The way this album laces together the live versions with the new material is remarkable! I have seen the band twice and this cd brings their energy to you. I am always amazed three individuals can produce this sound. My girls sing along to "Joy" all the time. "No Other" should be in the bands rotation for their tour, in my opinion. Tree63's music is so faith-driven and inspirational, bring on Vol.2! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Mediterranean flourishes mixed with big rock rhythms and flawless pop hooks propel the debut CD by righteous rockers Burlap to Cashmere out from the crowd of new artists into a territory relatively unoccupied in either the Christian or mainstream marketplace. Familial harmonies resonate against nylon-stringed guitars and catchy worldbeat rhythms, while Steven Delopoulos's sweetly gritty voice gives an instrument to his universally spiritual yet uniquely Christian lyrics. Songs like "Digee Dime," "Basic Instructions," and "Anybody Out There?" percolate with Mediterranean heat. While more-conventional pop tunes like "Eileen's Song," "Treasures in Heaven," and "Mansions" are less distinctive, they display the band's deft skill at pop songcraft as well as its impeccable melodies and playing. A remarkable debut. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What could have been...
Here is the true and tragic story of Burlap to Cashmere.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums of the decade
In the post grunge wake of the early 90's, music took a nosedive towards the incoherent.Burlap to Cashmere is one of the best exceptions of the decade of angst ridden pop.The songs are deeply moving and stirring. The classical-nylon guitars are virtuosic in their performance and dynamic sensitivity.I haven't heard anything like it in recent years. The sheer passion of the music comes through the CD with great clarity. The world beats and complicated rhythmic meters are stunning in their execution. The desperation and simultaneous hope of the lyrics come through.I have no idea why we haven't heard more from these guys. They easily are one of the best bands to have come in the modern era.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Unique
Wow. Their sound is unlike any genre I've heard before. They mix guitar and percussion in new ways that is almost distracting. When you think you've got them figured out, they through another curveball at you. I wish they had done more albums. I also bought Steven Delopoulos' almbum "Me Died Blue". It's just as good. Check it out... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best of the WOW Series.
Contemporary Christian music involves such a varied range of styles and mood that to offer a fair and enjoyable sampling is a tough task. In the past, the songs released on WOW anthologies have been conservative at best, profiling mostly the mainstream pop samples of the industry's top artists. With WOW 2002 (and its amazing 2001 predecessor -- which is why my review of this and 2001's issue are pretty similar), listeners who prefer their music a little louder and more energetic are, at last, given attention! Like 2001's sampling, the heavier tunes are mostly centered within one disc, whereas the more mainstream pop tunes on the other. This is an excellent idea, as people can have a "favorite" of the two discs based on their style. Overall the songs flow well together, and you're left with the sense that much care was taken to make this an overall enjoyable, and educational experience. It's a nice feeling to be able to praise God while at the same time slapping your hands on the steering wheel!

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent
This album is decent. i would rather listen to 2003 of Wow, since there is way more music. This is a beginning set into the world, yet there is much rock music to be notice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Wow, but Oh My Gosh 2002!
This was the first Christian CD I've ever got, and I immediately fell in love with it.It's how I came to learn about Christian artists and groups.I loved the track by Zoegirl, Elms, and Jennifer Knapp.I could listen to the whole thing for hours and not get tired of it.About 15 times better than Wow 1996 and diverse like nothing else.DEFINITELY a recommendation. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD
I bought this CD after going to a Rebecca St.James concert and hearing her sing the song Lion. The songs on this CD are well written and well preformed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Eventhough it's not the soundtrack, but I enjoyed it.
Firstly, I don't like this album much because it's not my style at all. Mine, well, is Classical, Opera, Choral, and Soundtracks. But, I have to admit that this album is not that bad, I want to tell you that IF you want the movie soundtrack, you should take a carefully look more. It's not quite a good thing that you've purchased the wrong album, and wrote a blaming or bad review back. It's YOUR fault, actually. If you want the soundtrack, you should look at it more carefully. Also, I think it wrote on the cover quite clearly that this album is a 'MUSIC INSPIRED BY' album. However, I wrote this review for this album, not to blame the others, so I would like to begin my EXCLUSIVE FIRST review TRACK-BY-TRACK for Music Inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia. Oops! I almost forget it. I hope that I shall have a chance to write TRACK-BY-TRACK review for the other album, too. My projects are 'The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King' original soundtrack composed by Howard Shore, and 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe' ORIGINAL special-edition SOUNDTRACK composed by Harry Gregson-Williams. So, some days later, there might be my review TRACK-BY-TRACK for these spectacular albums. Keep looking on my reviews, then. And Thanks, for the future.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fun stuff that's "getting better everyday"
This is good music. It's even almost as marvelous as the movie. "Music Inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia" is a special soundtrack sure inspires you to see it again if you've already seen it. I highly recommend most of the songs here. The entire cd is 42 minutes long, but it certainly does not feel that long at all {the movie was almost 2 and half hours and that doesn't feel like it either, go figure}. I think the soundtrack fits well with the movie. Not only that, but every song makes you feel darn good in it's own way. I knew that after hearing a couple of good songs I was going to get it, like I said, it's almost as good as the movie and that's basically the bottom line. That's about all I have to say about it, only in a rambling matter. Just let me tell you it's generally highly recommended {again}, as especially is the great movie on dvd that it's inspired by, and it's easy to see why. ... Read more

Jars of Clay are well established as one of Christian music's pre-eminent bands. In less than a decade, Jars have racked up numerous awards and sold millions of CDs, and prompted musicians of all stripes to marvel at the group's magical guitar interplay. But can they pull it off live? Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent mix of acoustic and live
This double CD from Jars of Clay shows the strong mix of their acoustic songs and live performances. Overall, the live CD is the better of the two. But, both provide a nice overview of this important Christian band. The strongest songs on the Live CD include "I Need You", "Revolution", and "Flood".
5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Album
I'm actully listening to it as i write this review. This is such an incredible selection of music. i actully bought it at SoulFest 2004. I'm actully going back this year to hear them again. If you buy this album you won't regret it. it's packed with music with lyrics and rythems that you won't forget. Some highlights i thought were good were Disappear, Eleventh Hour (disk 2), Overjoyed, and Fly (remembered it well from the concert). I would recomend this to the die hard fan right down to if you've never heard them before. worth every penny. good job guys.

4-0 out of 5 stars 2 disks - how can you lose?
initially i was more captivated by the studio, more acoustic cd. among the new songs, redemption is my favorite. it expresses the duality of victory and regret, joy and sorrow, as the speaker examines his road to redemption in hindsight. dan haseltine does an excellent job conveying all these contrasting emotions. the redone songs are full of surprises as well, showing how much they've grown tighter as a band, and what they are able to accomplish using only minimal instruments. liquid is full of creative piano fills, overjoyed is laid back and redone to sound more lounge-y, and needful hands is stripped down bare bones to just guitar and voice as an excellent, heartstrikingly honest cry.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some Good Metalcore to Add to Your Collection
I ran across this name a few times from a few ads and I wanted to see what all the talk was about. So, later that day, I checked out their Myspace, and I was very intrigued.Metalcore has quickly become an outdated genre due to it's lack of integrity and originality, but I'll listen to anything with a beat before pre-judging.With sick, versatile breakdowns, sweet and subtle refrains, flavorful electronic synths, and a benevolent contrast between melody and aggression, The Devil Wears Prada hits hard with their first full-length.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Solid Release that I've Been Waiting For
I found this band maybe a month before they got signed to Rise Reocrds.I downloaded all the songs by them on their ep and others that were out before this record, and I listened to them a lot.So with this cd I shall do the same.Uh as far as the cd goes, its a great one and a definite worthwhile purchase. To describe the way the band sounds is quite simple, they are a metalcore band with some integration of death metal and emo style singing. It's a great mix and I dont think it could be done as well by anyone else. The cd gets 4.5 stars due to the fact that it is very good, however i didnt give it a perfect 5 stars because it has some songs on it that i all ready knew from beofore. So lack of new material is the reason.I still highly recommend this cd for fans of hardcore and metal.

I love the whole cd the drums and vocals and singing its all great and the fact that they are christian is just even better i ove christian hardcore alot of people would say it shouldnt be but i have to say whats wrong with it you can have ppl sayin hail satan and all other types of obscene language but yall need to get over it its just music and who even said you had to listen to it? so this album is great if you can get over the fact that they are christian. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars It was probaly really good when it came out.
About a year ago I bought this album along with the debut and time. This was the first disk I put in my player and I only found a few good songs. The grunge and hard-rock thing going on gets annoying after a while.(But we all have our own opinions.)I recommend debut, time, come together,or the offerings. But,if you do buy this, listen to the clips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sophmore album
Third Day stays away from the dreaded sophmore slump in this disc.It wasn't as commercially sucessful as their debut album I feel mainly because they've changed their music style.Their debut album was more southern rock while this disc has a more grung-ish feel. You make me mad is a great rock tune that is sure to impress. As usual the lyrics are great making overall appeal of the album top notch. For those who are familiar with Third Day's southern rock style this may take you a listen or two to get used to the sound but I think you'll like it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Strong sophomore album.
In 1997, Third Day followed up their self-titled debut with "Conspiracy No.5." "Conspiracy," produced by Sam Taylor (the man who discovered, managed & produced King's X and Galactic Cowboys),maintains some of the band's Southern Rock sound they had become known for ("Have Mercy"), but also ventures into other musical territories like grunge and alt-rock. Some have criticized 3D for trying to sound like Pearl Jam on this album, but I for one applaud them for trying to do something different. My overall favorite song is "Gomer's Theme," taken from the Old Testament story of Gomer, the unfaithful wife of the prophet Hosea (Hosea 1-3) and the unconditional love shown by her husband. Other noteworthy tracks include "You Make Me Mad," "Alien," "Have Mercy," "My Hope is You" & "Your Love Endures." "Conspiracy No. 5" is a great album, and an important part of the history of one of Christian music's greatest bands. ... Read more

I borrowed this album off a friend who played a few tracks for me. I mostly hung around the opera bit which are hilarious! But then I started actualy listening to the songs. Every song on this album is fantastic! They are all in my favorites but this is my order.

This is definitely their best album, so if you like ska or are intrigued with the idea, this is a great buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best showcase of FIF's sound
It took Five Iron a while to figure out how to make good studio recordings, but I think this album is where they finally get it right. The energy and excitement from their live shows makes a strong showing on this album, with only a little studio degredation.Besides just being an excellent recording, some of FIF's best songs are on this album, namely One Girl Army, Dandelions, and Get Your Riot Gear.Overall, it's just an EP, but you get alot for your buck here: Good ska and a Christian band that gets it right. If you're new to FIF this is the place to start. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good listen with room for growth
Sanctus Real spikes their rock with singalong..not really gritty but at times too rocky to really call them power pop. It's hard to know exactly who to compare them to in terms of sound. They're a Christian band but usually avoid becoming too preachy lyrically and that's allowed them a minor degree of mainstream exposure in clubs that more typically book mainstream rock/punk/alt rock acts. This particular CD won Gospel's Dove Award for "Best Modern Rock Album" in 2005.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sanctus Real Rocks!
I absolutely love this album. The reason I bought it was because I really liked the song Everything About you and they played it on my local Christian Radio Station alot so I really got curious as to what the Cd would sound like so I bought it and now I listen to it all the time. The whole CD is just fun to listen to. I don't think there is one bad song on it. I totally reccomend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not your ordinary Christian rock
I bought the first CD and liked it, but this is the album that made me a fan.Musically, it's edgy without being inaccessible; in fact, several of the songs are quite catchy.Lyrically, the songs are clever, inspirational, convicting, all in all stronger than the usual fare. The vocals are distinctive; it's not a sound many bands can duplicate. If you're still hesitant, listen to the sample clips and I think you'll fall in love like I did. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars The "last" DC Talk album is the worst
This is probably the last DC Talk Album to be made since the three are well into their solo careers now.I hope they'll get back together to make another record because I always enjoyed their blend of rock, soul and rap. But, unfortunately, they left off the rap part on "Supernatural."As a long time fan of DC Talk, I was obviously attracted by the rap side of their music, since that's all they did on their first three releases."Supernatural" doesn't even throw a bone to the rap fans of TobyMac.Still, I like several songs on the album. My Friend, Fearless, Supernatural and a few others are good. For those of you that found these artists through their solo releases, "Supernatural" features Tait and Kevin Max much more than Toby Mac.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't settle for intermission...
I can not belive I didn't get this cd sooner.
3-0 out of 5 stars Both more mature and less cohesive at the same time
While the band insists they are on "hiatus", honest Christian music fans will realize that this is their swansong: the members' individual muses have been leading them on different paths for some time. So how does this stack up as the group's last word to their fans? Mixed, frankly...

Wow Hits 2005 is better, but this is a really good collection of songs that I would recommend for anyone. I recently bought this CD based on the glowing reviews here.To be fair, I was a bit disappointed when I listened to it.It's not a bad CD at all, but it's not a worship epiphany either. It has a few excellent tracks, some heartfelt narratives, and some noisy clinkers.

I consider myself a Christ follower, this kind of music however just doesn't seem God inspired to me. I feel its more centered around feelings and the pop market than anything else. I was suckered into buying this cd from the other Amazon reviews and I want my money back. I do like track 7, except that it isn't an original song. Just because you are singing about God doesn't mean you should put it on a CD and sell it. God created those with talent and those without. Sonic flood = without.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
I first heard of Sonic Flood when saw them warming up for 'The Newsboys' concert several years ago. They combined reverent praise music with highly energetic rock.

5-0 out of 5 stars Staggering!I was blown away! Now my favorite album!
Christian music has come a very long way in the last 20 years. It used to be a joke. While wanting to proclaim my faith, as a recording engineer, I was embarrassed to listen to it as it was almost silly. That is all changed and the quality of the message and the quality of the music is as good, if not better, than the secular varieties. So while I have come to expect higher quality Christian music, this album knocked my socks off.The first song, "Late Great Planet Earth" is nothing sort of amazing. It has a Led Zepplin "Kasmir" flavor with complex layers of rhythms creating tension and resolution. The band is tight and Tiffany's vocals and are both mysterious and satisfying. If you only want one Plumb album, this is it!I wish I could give it 6 or 7 stars...

5-0 out of 5 stars Serves as a justifiable 'Greatest Hits'
After hearing Plumb's Greatest Hits release, I figured there'd be no reason for me to buy any further CDs from them seeing as how that was such a great disc. I eventually wanted to hear 'new' stuff from them so I purchased candycoatedwaterdrops. I didn't pay much attention to the tracklisting past Late Great Planet Earth since that is my favorite song by Plumb. Once I did look, however, I was amazed at how many wonderful songs are included. Everything from Here With Me to Damaged is on here, basically over half of the Greatest Hits disc. Plumb mixes so many genres without even trying. One song will be pure pop, the next will have a subtle hip hop influence, and the next will venture into rock. Any band with that kind of range, whether they want to or not, will draw attention to themselves. 5-0 out of 5 stars even if you're not a Christian
This album is in my top 20 list. I've played this for many many people, none of whom are even remotely christian and everyone has absolutely LOVED it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
Oh my goodness, zoegirl just keeps getting better and better with every new album they make! This is their 5th album if you count their remix album. It's also about time I wrote a review about this because I got this CD last April (I know, long time ago)! Anyway, it's a very great CD, very uplifting music, and I think we can all learn from it, too. It's very great christain music that a lot of christains would love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rap with a msg
KJ-52 is a man who we can all relate to. His words are true and his message is clear. No goofin' around here. You will know the truth after one spin around. So if you hear this CD, you are now "without excuse"!

5-0 out of 5 stars If you like DC Talk and TobyMac
This was my introduction to KJ-52. It was reccomended because I enjoy DC Talk and TobyMac. What a great album!

Listen. Do you hear it? That hissing sound. It's the sad sound of air leaking from a Caedmon's Call balloon that once flew so high and was full of promise. Ever since the departure of Derek Webb in 2003, the band has sorely missed his songwriting and creative contributions. Never has it been more evident than in Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous CD!!!
Caedmon's Call is one of those groups that falls under the radar. It seems just yesterday that 40 Acres was released.I purchased this CD after a quick preview and am glad that I did.Fellowship So Deep, Sing His Love, and Draw Me Nearer are my favorite songs. But can't find one track that is weak.I like rendition of classic hymn I Surrender All.If you like acoustic/percussion driven sound, then this album is a must.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very solid
I confess that when I heard that Caedmon's Call's follow-up to their amazing _Share the Well_ would be this sequel to the original _In the Company of Angels_ (_ItCoA_), I was not terribly excited.Artistically, it seemed like a regress, done for commercial reasons. Then I heard the opening track, "Great and Mighty," which seemed to confirm my suspicions. It was catchy but fluffy--the kind of song you'd expect to hear on an average Christian radio station, but not worthy of Caedmon's Call.Despite my misgivings, I bought _ItCoA II_, thinking that even if this wasn't Caedmon's magnum opus, it would still contain plenty of Caedmon's typical excellence.I am glad I did.
