5-0 out of 5 stars There's talent and then there's Kendall Payne
Sitting in an anonymous hotel room in Sri Lanka, the distant sound of the TV alerted me to pay attention. I stood and watched for several minutes and was instantly captivated by a video from Kendall Payne's previous album 'Jordan's Sister'. I made a note of her name and album in my notebook. Back in Singapore, I bought probably the only copy available here of her second album 'Grown'. Whenever I have time for music, this and 'Jordan's Sister' are definitely on my play list. Yes, this is labeled as contemporary Christian music and Kendall Payne's lyrics deliver the personal thoughts she is trying to convey in a neat tidy, powerful and concise way, whether through a rock track or slower song. I also get the real impression she's not trying to ram a Christian message down anyone's throat either, just telling us what she thinks, which I think people will respect. So this album will appeal to a wide audience in so far as it stands up extremely well as a pop / rock album on its own merit. What this album also achieves (as with 'Jordan's Sister') is to rise above the benchmark for many good albums through the outstanding musical and lyrical talent of Kendall Payne which is well beyond her years. Despite not having a regular record label, this artist has a growing following. By listening to her two albums, it is not hard to understand why.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just had her play at my church today
I'm not eliquent, however I'm honest and my opinion is that Kendall Payne is an excellent preformer/singer/songwriter. Her music cuts to the heart and moves the spirit. It's enjoyable and worth listening to again and again. I even convienced my metal loving husband to buy her cd.She performed at our church today 05/28/06 and we were able to meet her.She is as down to earth as one can be.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Grown" is five stars, SHE's the sixth!
Too often, the fickle and mercenary music business requires listeners to work harder than they should need to in order to find the sort of quality contained in "Grown", not to mention Kendall's first album, "Jordan's Sister".The one-word title of this follow-up release says it all, for as praiseworthy as her debut was, Kendall Payne truly HAS grown, into an even more engaging, insightful, and entertaining performer than she was in '99.Her literate and challenging lyrics reflect those of an artist well beyond her years, and she does them justice with a voice that is at once comforting, passionate and pure. Each of Kendall Payne's songs is a journey, and she is a beautiful, trustworthy guide.Tim Schoenhals' production is truly outstanding. He seems to understand what Kendall wants and needs to convey with her music, and he has helped her shape these songs into a wonderful body of work. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Too repetitive and so boring
i've got this cd 2 days ago, and i all ready want to trhow it away, the lyrics are so boring, the music in general is too repetitive, ths guitar riffs are so amateur, i rather hearing other christian bands like underoath (IT'S EMO !!! for those who say they're heavy metal, actually heavy metal is far away from EMO) hope you guys don't get desillusionated by buying this cd, cuz actually it stinks !!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth thte Price of Admission
Not as good as his last two albums, but as the usual Shawm McDonald The Rider on the White Horse is worth the price of admission alone on this album. You do not get any more spiritual than this when you hear this and imagine Jesus on His White horse, riding in a haunting rythmic style that makes you look up at the heavens in the middle of sunset watching and waiting for His return. This song alone and Ramblings of a Beggar are worth the the admission of the CD. Don't miss your chance to be blessed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost as Good...
Shawn Mcdonalds "Ripen" is an album that soothes the ears and the soul. The lyrics are very real and you can tell he very much draws on personal experience with his songwriting.
2-0 out of 5 stars Tired, banal
Spirituality aside, Shawn's music is trite and insipid. The lyrics may appeal to you, and the balad-style rock may soothe, but he is entirely uncreative in his composition. Each song sounds precisely like the previous and the next. Worse yet, he sound like a poor, calmer rendition of Incubus. ... Read more

Editorial Review

One thing that will hit you quickly about Jeremy Camp’s Live Unplugged is the number of radio hits the 24-year-old has already chalked up. Ten of the 11 tracks on this release were penned by Camp and nearly every one has reached the top, if not next to the top, of the Christian radio charts. It’s been an amazing ride for Camp and he capably displays his career highlights here in a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. He plays it safe with basic arrangements throughout, but you will hear some nice piano touches by Justin Glasco on "Right Here" and "Empty Me." The addition of the Nashville String Machine is also used well on "My Desire," which may be the best track on the release. Along with Glasco’s piano accompaniment, Camp delivers powerfully and emotionally here and maybe even surpasses the song’s original version. Camp also shines bright on "Take You Back," "Stay," and "This Man." Kudos also go out to Camp’s wife Adrienne (who used to lead The Benjamin Gate) for some fine backing vocals. Granted, there are a few blemishes such as the cheesy vamp at the end of "Walk By Faith," a slower-than-it-should- be version of "I Still Believe," and the head-scratching cover of Tim Hughes’ "Beautiful One." But why major on the minors? Live Unplugged is a worthy effort and a nice inclusion to any Camp fan’s collection. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!!
This is a brilliant CD....The songs are naked and quiet. It's a true worship CD and one for the quiet time with God. The song "Beautiful One" is written by Tim Hughes from Watford, England and it's sung slightly different to the way he does it...but awesome none the less. The DVD is really great too and when watching it I felt like I was in the audience. Highly recommended! A+

4-0 out of 5 stars Agree with most everything......
Let me say that I agree with almost everything positive expressed by others already.I'll just round out the comments a bit by commenting a little on the technical nature of this DVD.I found the camera work a bit distracting. For my tastes there were too many quickly moving camera angles.Made it hard to focus on the guy singing the music - like you would at a concert. There was also a lot of moving between B&W, out-of-focus, introduction of scratches/spots to replicate damaged film, graininess, etc.Seemed like the post production people wanted to use all the toys in the digital editing toolbox. The soundtrack is also only in stereo. Not bad, in fact, very good but certainly not up to the DD 5.1 standards of other DVD's such as the Eagles. So yes, it's very good but not quite 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ministers to my heart
Let me preface this review by saying that I felt for some time that Jeremy Camp was losing his edge, and that his first CD, Stay, was as good as it would get for Jeremy. He released Carried Me, a worship CD, on which some of the songs are remakes of other artists' work, and one song is even carried over from Stay! Then came Restored, which to me sounded a lot like Stay, but without some of the edginess. I hesitated to buy this acoustic compilation of songs from his past 3 releases.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
"Awesome" is the one word that best describes this CD! I'd heard of Newsboys, but searched for the music after hearing Amazing Love (You Are My King) at the Lifesong church on Sunday. Can't wait to hear more from them. Inspiring & rocking worship and praise music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
I like the CD, it did not take too long to receive the item, and it sounds great.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Worship Album that isn't "too worshippy"
I love this album because the music is fantastic, not schmaltzy as some praise music can sound/feel.Each one is fun to sing and I think they capture a wide variety of praise moods. The song "Lord (I Don't Know)" got me through a rough time, and I enjoy "Take My Hands (Praises)" so much we incorporated it into our VBS program last summer."In Christ Alone" and "Great is Your Faithfulness" are new twists on classic hymns, if in name only. There isn't a song on this disc I don't like. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Treat yourself to this CD!
Worth every penny. Great songs by Clay Aiken, Mark Schultz, Amy Grant, Michael Smith, etc. I love it. The WOW Christmas 2005 might be slightly better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Disc #2 is the best
The first disc remakes most of the songs you've known from childhood, but they make you prefer the traditional tune. HOWEVER, the second disc is incredible, which includes a surprisingly sultry rendition of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by young talent Bethany Dillon and a tearjerking Mary Did You Know by Clay Aiken.
5-0 out of 5 stars Modern sounding Christmas music for a modern world
My wife loves Christmas but I used to work in a mall so listening to traditional Christmas music still, to some degree, makes me cringe. In my attempt to find something we can both enjoy I picked up the new WOW Christmas 2005.This album is all about modern music. If you're looking for traditional sounding music you might be disappointed in this (leaving room for error based upon the fact that while this has a modern sound it's done very well). There are 15 new songs and 15 'traditional' songs so this album has something for everyone. While I mentioned above that the songs are done in 'modern' sounds, keep in mind that the genre of modern changes.Natalie Grant offers "Joy To The World" for example while has a modern gospel sound to it.Rebecca St. James' "Hark the Herlad Angels Sing" is done in a modern rock sound.Steven Curtis Chapman's "O Little Town of Bethlehem" has a traditional sound to it while the very next track is "O Come All Ye Faithful" by Toby Mac which can be called hip hop.As you can see there's truly something for everyone. It's very different and yet it all blends together - isn't that part of what Christmas is about? The Christmas season brings many different people with many different backgrounds together and this is truly celebrated with this offering. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
Stacie Orrico has got to be by far one of the best pop singers I have heard in a while...she reminds me of Christina Auguleria when she first came onto the scene.Stacie has an amazing voice, one that will blow you away. And the first song that I heard by her was Stuck and it was alright it made me notice her with how she kept the bridge of the song riding and how smooth her voice was, but I didn't get to really hear her skills still I heard There's Gotta Be More To Life" and when I heard it I said to myself "I'm going to go get that!" and thats exactly what I did.Her voice is very powerful and she could very well be in a leauge of herown, I put her up there with Christina, Beyonce, and Mariah and that is saying a lot! I give 2 thumbs way way up!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
This is the only ablum out of 3 that I own by Stacie Orrico, and I really like her! She has a great voice, and the songs are very well-written. I really like it that her songs are sweet and encouraging in some ways, which is probably her way of spreading the gospel to others. I've had this CD for quite a while, but I wanted to write a review to share with others about what I think of it. The first song I ever heard by her was "More to life", and I was blown away by that song! I loved it! I gave this 4 stars because it wasn't NEARLY as good as I really thought it would be. You'll see why right here, when I talk about these songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much Afraid...Timeless
Much Afraid has to be one of Jars of Clay's best albums to date. Each song has so much expression. Much Afraid is timeless, In 2007, the album will be ten years old and the songs will never become outdated. Jars of Clay are a genius group, I know each track had to be ahead of Its time. I think It may have been overwhelming for some, but Much Afraid is a very deep album. From the start when I first heardCrazy times, Fade to Gray, Frail and Truce, I was hooked. These are the songs that become timeless. I think Jars of Clay has broken the barriers of conventional music and ingenious composition.

4-0 out of 5 stars best gospel album ever
This is still my favourite gospel (rock) album ever. Although I also like Adrian Snell's The passion. What sets this apart from other releases are the catchy melodies, the heartfelt lyrics and pure emotion. I'm a music fan and this is just a good catchy record. Don't let the 'gospel' genre scare you there's a lot of good music in this genre, rock and rap.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is Jars best album by far.
...and also one of the top 20 albums of the last decade. Period. It is truly a buried treasure. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not into rock-rap but...
I am not really into the Linkin Park/Limp Bizkit style of music but Pillar's songs has the musicianship that I believe carries the genre to a whole new level. And the lyrics and music are serious and not just the "rah-rah God" stuff. This is my first CD from this band but this CD makes me want to buy more of their repatoire.

5-0 out of 5 stars Their Best Yet
I have been a Pillar fan for awhile and when I bought this cd, I loved it! I have all of them and this is definately the best one. The songs were all done really well. From the softer "Rewind" to the harder "You Can't Bring Me Down" There is a little bit of everything for everyone. And my favorites "Frontline" and " Staring Back" are the highlights. This is a definate yes to any christian music fans!

I absolutely love this Cd. I only found out about it by searching through Amazon.com. I am so glad I found out about it because I love this cd. There isn't one song that I can't knock on. 4-0 out of 5 stars great album
I don't have much to say, just that this is a great album by a great vocalist and musician. Jeremy Enigk is one of the more impressive vocalists in modern rock and roll. I expected a little more than the album provided, hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars An album that will grow on you - Sunny Day and Enigk fans will no doubt love it!
The first couple of times I listened to "Return Of The Frog Queen" I hated it. I loved "Explain" and "Shade Of The Black Hat" (the catchiest and most memorable ones here) while the rest just didn't seem as good. Over time, though, I realized that the songs were intended to be more interesting than catchy, and interesting they are indeed. Most of the album is pretty slow sounding and is definitely not meant for the MTV crowd, but give them time and you will love them just as much as the two great songs here (the ones I mentioned). Jeremy's voice is still as good as it ever was on a Sunny Day Real Estate album, and the lyrics are, again, well-written and worth paying close attention to. The musicianship here is solid, unique and interesting, but I think the production could use a bit of work. All things considered it's a very good album, but what gives it a "5" is the inclusion of these two great songs. I think that Jeremy Enigk and Sunny Day Real Estate as well as singer/songwriter fans will love it if they give it enough time to sink in. Absolutely recommended!
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best C.D.'s of the '90's?
I have very enthusiastically called this CD one of the best CD's of the 1990's.Sure, I listen to a lot of classic rock and soundtrack music (odd combination, I know), and may not be the best expert here (ok, get your "unhelpful" buttons ready), but there is something charming, sophisticated, gorgeous and brilliant going on here.I haven't heard a CD that gets everything so "right" at all the right places.Mr. Enigk has put together something that far surpasses his contemporaries and nails the 1960's pop British psychedelia with some downright heart wrenching vocal performances.Did I mention that the orchestral instrumentation is impeccable? OK, I'll stop gushing, but I think you get the picture.Even the most jaded will feel the heat of the tracks "Explain" and "Shade and The Black Hat".Treat yourself to this one.

Editorial Review

It can't be said enough that DC Talk is one of the most relevant and critical forces of change in the history of Contemporary Christian Music. They brought the sounds and words of the streets into the consciousness of mainstream Christianity. And musically, they've done it in the most pleasing manner. This hits package is but a mere glimpse of the brilliance Toby McKeehan, Michael Tait, and Kevin Smith have displayed in so many styles throughout their 10-year career in DC Talk. There are beautiful ballads of forgiveness ("Between You and Me"), riveting rockers of conviction ("Jesus Freak"), and the quiet, stark realities of being role models ("What If I Stumble?"). New cuts "Say the Words (Now)" and "Chance" play up the sweet melodies these guys know so well. Older fans will enjoy the inclusion of "Luv Is a Verb" and "Socially Acceptable." As long as the group keeps its finger on the pulse of the mainstream and its heart focused on the Almighty, another decade of hits is a good bet. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Crossover Christian Record
To the audience used to Third Days' worship songs, like Offerings and Offerings II, Wired may come as a shock. Not once does any of the lyrics mention Lord, God, or Jesus. The listeners may feel disappointed hearing its "watered down" lyrics. Still, the album, in general, is solid. It gives good encouragements to those striving for fame, but failed. The song, "It's a Shame" has an especially poignant message about abusive relationships. As for the music, they sound good, but could use some improvement. Still, you won't feel sorry about buying the record.

4-0 out of 5 stars All-out Rock n' Roll by Third Day
Don't get me wrong - I'm a major Third Day fan, as evidenced by the number of other reviews on Amazon I've written on their albums. But this one doesn't strike me as being the pure genius that "Offerings II: All I Have to Give", "Time", or "Wherever You Are" did.
3-0 out of 5 stars Just Doesn't Do Anything For Me
I have always felt pretty neutral about Third Day.I don't love them and I don't hate them.To me, they're just alright.Their songs always have a great message and they are awesome about serving Jesus.I know that a lot of people love them and they are great witnesses. However, I feel like their songs aren't catchy enough. They do not make me want to sing along and share that experience of worship. So I just kind of sit back and get bored.

Editorial Review

Some songs define moments in our lives we will never forget. They're songs that years later can evoke the sights, sounds, and even smells of the time we first heard them. "Kiss Me," the red-hot, irresistible single from this self-titled release, will probably be one of those songs for the many who've by now experienced its charms. The culprits? A trio of youthful central Texans, by way of Nashville, called Sixpence None the Richer. On the rest of this Grammy-nominated gem, Sixpence serve an airy blend of Abra Moore-meets-Sundays acoustic pop. It's beautifully rich and constantly augmented by Leigh Nash's earthy vocals, Matt Slocum's songwriting genius, and steady rhythms from Dale Baker. Like Jars of Clay, Sixpence have "raised the bar" for the rest of late-'90s contemporary Christian music. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars delightful
Actually I haven't bought this CD, but I just happened to hear the song "There she goes" on a low quality WMA stream from the Internet.
1-0 out of 5 stars This is annoying......so very annoying........No wonder the second half of the the 90's sucked musically
This is disgusting. They are about as annoying as The Cranberries, and the only thing they have going for them is their faith. Other than that I probably wouldn't bother writing anything positive. The second half of the 90's sucked musically, and this is one of the reasons why. "Kiss Me" is a drab love song that annoys not appeals. "There She Goes" is a cover of a faceless band that did this on the remake of "The Parent Trap", or is it the other way around....either way it stinks. I usually don't write anything bad about Christian music, but this is one exception as this is just blah.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This is my favorite of the CDs I've bought from online sources such as EBAY. I only paid $3.00 for it, but I would buy their new CD at full price if it is anything like this one. I loved it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Remember the guys in your school who were too smart and sarcastic for their own good? Put guitars on them with a punk-pop penchant and you’ve got Relient K, Canton, Ohio’s most famous import since the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The band’s third release is a thoroughly enjoyable romp of rambunctious buzz-saw guitars and smart-aleck lyrics churned out by singer Matthew Thiessen. Who else could get away with lines like "Let’s get emotional girls to wear mood rings/ So we’ll be tipped off when they’re ticked off" in the wildly clever "Mood Rings," or "Hoopes I did it again/ Relationships are something I can’t comprehend" from the suburban-boredom tribute "Hoopes I Did It Again." Yet, the band never loses sight of its faith in these matters, always finding God at the end of their collective ropes. The tight rhythm section of bassist Brian Pittman and drummer Dave Douglas shine again, laying a foundation upon which Thiessen and Matthew Hoopes blaze away on their 6-strings. Maybe all that time in the principal’s office did do the guys some good!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
Okay, for starters I got this CD with a different cover, it had all four cars in a junkyard on the front. The CD is....eh...hmm...AWESOME.

5-0 out of 5 stars A pop-punk CD that stands the test of time
3/4 of the cd's I own, without exception, rarely get played after a month or two. Some grow tiresome after just a few listens, others after more, but rarely do I listen to a cd 2 years after I buy it! Relient K's "two lefts don't make a right...but three do" is the exception to the 3/4 rule. This is truly one of the best pop-punk cd's I own, with great lyrics, chorus' and guitar parts. It's catchy and driving, but it's also got nice melodic moments to even things out. I don't even have to mention that replay value is very, VERY high.
5-0 out of 5 stars What I think of Relient K
I think their AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I love the song In Love With The 80's. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A CD you'll want to share
I bought this CD for "the Word" and was astounded by how amazing the entire CD was. It's helped me through some dark moments in my life by reminding me where to find the light at the end of the tunnel.I've given it to at least 6 people as gifts because everyone has these thoughts and feelings and it's comforting to know you're not alone.I even replaced one gift because that person lent it to someone else that was hurting and they didn't give it back. "Pain shared is Pain Halved; Joy shared is Joy Multiplied."

5-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes we buy the song, even if we don't buy the whole album
The song "He's Always Been Faithful To Me" is very good from many different perspectives.
5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable
This is very possibly the best Christian CD I've ever heard.I discovered Sara Groves last month at the Jars of Clay concert I went to (she opened for them...), and I was so ministered to by her openness about her relationship with the Lord and by her songs. So, the next day I ordered all her CD's, and although they all came at once, I wasn't able to get this one out of my CD player.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it's that good
Starfield's second album is a cut above their first, self-titled release. I'll admit that I was a huge fan of "Filled with Your Glory", the song that practically forced me to buy the first album, but I feel as though the songs on "Beauty in the Broken" portray a more mature band, one with a better grasp of musical composition, and a band that has begun to write starkly beautiful lyrics. The messages delivered through the music are phenomenal, and are a pleasant change from most of the music that comes out nowadays.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good sound, windy content
Starfield has been listening to the radio attentively.Their latest album shows a keen ability to maximize the pop sound - and the good pop at that.Aside from the outstanding production value, you'll hear songs that could have easily come from Coldplay, Switchfoot, or Chris Tomlin."Captivate" outright copies a Radiohead riff and melody.Plagiarism aside, the album is a good listen.
5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
I really enjoyed this album

3-0 out of 5 stars DON'T buy this if you want to listen to it on your computer
I enjoy Chris' music quite a bit.I won't pretend to be a music critic but his music is simply excellent.
3-0 out of 5 stars Come to Jesus
"Untitled hymn (Come to Jesus)" is a great song!
5-0 out of 5 stars From Opposite Sides of the Universe
"Run the Earth, Watch the Sky" is an exquisite set of pop tunes about faith and God.On most CDs, if there are 2 or 3 songs I really like, it's successful. On this disc, there are 6!"Wonder" is a joyful pop nugget with Chris' expressive baritone gently caressing the lyric, "Shall we dance from opposite sides of the universe? And we'll shine the glory behind all our spins & turns as we orbit our way through the sky."What a lovely picturing of man reaching for God and God for man!"My Cathedral" is a sweet acoustic melody about the joys of worshipping outdoors, "Here beneath the blue skies, I ran down to be baptized.""Circle Up" is a sweet melody with a delightful vision of men & angels all joined in worship, "Great & small, angels all & seraphim, grab a hand, twirl a dance, circle up & worship him!"It's a delightful track."Untitled Hymn" is a comforting melody that starts simple with piano before the strings come in as the song builds from loneliness to joy."Spare an Angel" is a song that touches a deep chord for those whose hearts are troubled and no human comfort seems to satisfy. It's an elegant statement of compassion."Me & Becky" is such a perky track that it makes me think it ought to be a TV theme song. While I've cited my favorites, none of the other tracks are weak. This set by Chris Rice is extremely strong with a positive delightful vision.Bravo! ...
