eh, Canton Jones is not like anything I have ever heard, but I like him and appreciate him and the great gift that he is to the body of Christ. I would encourage anyone on any given day to purchase this c.d. It doesn't have to even be for your kids or some young person you know, but if you want to purchase this for ya self, it will bless ya!

5-0 out of 5 stars I Look Toward Home
This album takes me back to Texas. "The Sons Of Katie Elder" sung by Johnny Cash and "Nevada Smith" sung by Merle Kilgore sound good but are a bit modern. "The Searchers" sung by the Sons Of The Pioneers really hits home. As the sun sets and the days grow short I ride away and I look toward home.
5-0 out of 5 stars Bring back the yesteryear
When I saw the title, I immediately recalled the Ricky Nelson - Dean Martin duet in "Rio Bravo" as they were held up in the sheriff's office with trusty Walter Brennan and you know who, John Wayne. This CD brings back many, many memories, when Westerns were King of the small or silver screen.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Family Favorite
This is a great CD for the old western lovers. My family made a game out of the first playing of it by having to guess the name of the song and who was singing it. (One person had control of the jewel case.)What was so great about it was there was nary a cuss word or drug use in it.Very family friendly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Spiritual oxygen.
Mother Theresa or Mother Angelica said, "Make something beautiful for God." Whoever said it, Beth Chapman was listening when she produced this collection of hymns. Because of B.N.C.'s experience of personal heart-ache that preceded this recording, there's a touching dose of holy sobriety in her delivery. After listening to some snippets on-line, I first bought this for my Mom who is in her 70s. Since I finally bought another copy for myself a few weeks ago, it has dominated my car CD player. My 28 year old son, who doesn't know this pre-Vatican II repertoire, absolutely loves it. This is timeless, edifying stuff -- no artificial ingredients. Thank you, Beth. I'm so glad I found your Hymns project.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking renditions of sacred music
Chapman takes some of the Christendom's most beautiful music and lends a simple reverence to it that works wonderfully well. She's also written a very sweet new hymn to Mary.I buy virtually no music - my collection is already sufficient. But I only had to hear a bit of one song - Panis Angelicus - to get me onto iTunes for this album.
5-0 out of 5 stars YOU KNOW IT'S GOOD WHEN...

4-0 out of 5 stars Revival in Belfast
Wonderful music. I was actually looking for two of the songs that are on the CD but didn't realise it was recorded live. For me I like music more when there isn't any of the interaction that goes on with a live recording, but overall not a complaint.

5-0 out of 5 stars The total is greater than the sum of the parts
I was familiar with selections from this disc, but the complete disc is simply joyful. I'm not sure I've ever made a purchase with such high expectations and had them exceeded. The music is distinctly Celtic, the musicians skilled and in synch, the singers full of praise, and the whole package praises our glorious God and Savior at every turn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This album is an amazing and remarkable album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Transcending Tunes
I initially was given this music when my children were very young. They are now all grown but the memory of rocking my babies in the wee small hours to the most uplifting and calming music stayed with me.I now give this as a gift to others I love who are looking forward to parenthood.I remember, not only did it provide a peaceful background for my children to drift into slumber, but it lifted me beyond the concerns of the day to thoughts of prayerful gratitude and internal expressions of praise to our Creator for the precious gift of life. I highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars The background music of our lives
We started playing this CD for our baby when he was 4 months old and not sleeping almost at all at night. It now plays almost constantly at our house, as we keep it on auto repeat all night and a good part of the day when he's napping. It is such soothing music, I can even fall asleep to it (which is important since we play it even when we travel and the baby sleeps in our room.)The tempo is perfect for rocking or patting baby to sleep in time with the music. My only complaint (if it can even be called that) is that the range is too high for me to sing along. But the music is beautiful, and it's nice to know that my baby is listening to sacred lullabyes all night long.Michael Card's arrangement of the Mizpah Benediction at the end of the CD is especially beautiful. All in all, although I can't say that this was the "magic pill" that made my baby sleep through the night, it has helped him sleep longer and better, and is soothing to listen to as I resettle him night after night.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sleep Sound in Jesus - AWESOME
This is an AWESOME CD!!!When I was growing up I put each of my 5 brothers to sleep with it...and now that I'm pregnant and expecting my first, I've gotten it again and am listening to it.I love Michael Card's voice (He DOES sing in this, contrary to what one person said).

Editorial Review

Eight releases, 14 No. 1 radio hits, top reputation as a live act--notbad work if you can get it. That's what the Newsboys have accomplished in 14 years, and the scope and breadth of their success is documented well on this 17-track hits collection. In songs like "Shine," "Take Me to Your Leader," "Spirit Thing," and "Step Up to the Microphone," the Newsboys magically melded a modern pop beat with a strong, spirit-filled message. The end results were endearing radio hits that sounded fresh, vibrant, and nonapologetic for their religious zeal. And that explains why these lads from Australia garner such a buzz in the Christian pop world. The Newsboys never met a pop hook they didn't like, a fact all too apparent when listening to this collection. But they do it so well. Longtime Newsboys fans will appreciate the remake of "God Is Not a Secret," featuring a blistering rap from DC Talk's Toby McKeehan. Three new tracks--"Joy," "Praises," and "Who?"--give listeners a hint of what's to come. Read more

I really enjoy listening to music from the Newsboys.Their music has a great beat, and always puts me in a good mood.I would highly reccomend it to anyone who likes to listen to music.

4-0 out of 5 stars Like it says- The Hits
Here's a great collection of why we love the Newsboys. Fun-filled toe-tapping songs with an awesome message, and a couple of lovely ballads.I keep this disc in the car because it fits any mood, my husband and I both love it and I don't mind my son listening to it, even though at the moment he's an infant and doesn't get the lyrics anyway.

Editorial Review

Given their impact on generations of country, country-rock, and bluegrass acts, it's amazing the Louvins haven't had a modern tribute before. Unlike tribute albums that stumble through inconsistent performances and ill-matched material, this one soars, the selections well matched to the paired artists. Joe Nichols and Rhonda Vincent capture "Cash on the Barrelhead's" sassy humor. Emmylou Harris--who spearheaded the Louvin revival--and Rodney Crowell are relaxed on the Louvin hit "My Baby's Gone." Merle Haggard and the album's producer Carl Jackson capture the anguish of "Must You Throw Dirt in My Face." Glen Campbell and Leslie Satcher wring maximum passion from "When I Stop Dreaming." Obscure gospel tunes receive equally stellar treatment. "Keep Your Eyes on Jesus" teams Pam Tillis with Johnny Cash (handling the recitation) and the Jordanaires. Marty Stuart and Del McCoury establish the Louvins' bluegrass ties on "Let Us Travel, Travel On." By seamlessly blending traditional and modern Jackson's created a magnificent tribute that doubles as a fine introduction to the Louvins' earthy, breathtaking majesty. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT covers of Louvin material!
I'll just pile on here and echo what everybody else is saying. This is one of the best CDs I've bought in a long time. The matching of singers with material is perfect. The harmony singing is imaginative and spot on. The instrumentation is hot when it needs to be and always appropriate. The differing voices make for a nice variety as you move through the songs. Charlie and Ira would surely be proud of what's been done with their music on this CD.
5-0 out of 5 stars Truly wonderful album
This album has become the one I listen to most often. Each song conveys deep meaning, each of the artists truly were inspired. I listen to EmmyLou Harris, if you like her work(from early to present) or that of Gram Parsons, I think this album will be enjoyable for you

5-0 out of 5 stars Lov'in the Louvin Brothers
This album is like prime rib, every bite of it is juicy and flavorful. The duets are fresh, inspired and fun. It's country music at its best: simple, straight forward and foot stompin' good. If this album doesn't spring you to life, better check the pacemaker. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Hallelujah Chorus
Secular white guys like me can still like good ol' roots oriented gospel musicf. It's the emotion that grabs you--when it's heartfelt. You could be a Buddhist, an animist or a Wiccan --or a complete non-believer--and it'd still get to you if you're open to it at all.
5-0 out of 5 stars My First CD of this group
I purchased this CD to get a good sampling of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, one of the best known church choirs in the nation. It is clear why they are so popular with the arrangements on this album. If you appreciate good choir performances, this is not a CD you will be disappointed with.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hope to hear Calvin again
This is a very balanced CD which gives a summary of previous albums. I am however super blessed by the song "I'm Clean", with one of my favorite Brooklyn-soloists, calvin Hunt. he's such a passionate and moving singer. I'd love to hear him perform again with the choir. It seems as if every album he sings a solo part in, is loved by many persons around!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
I just had to write a review and say that this CD did take me to another level in praising and worshipping the Lord. This is one of those CD's where you can tell that Israel has an intimacy with Christ and he has not held back how he honors the Lord with his gift of music. Also, I was privileged to be at a Worship & the Word Conference with my former church where Israel did not only minister in concert but he spent time teaching us how to worship the Lord.Israel I would like to thank you for that.I love how Israel & New Breed allowed the Holy Spirit to breathe on this project but most of all on their hearts. For those of you that buy this CD your level of worship and desire for greater intimacy with Christ will deepen.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, Sweet Sounding CD
I love listening to this CD, and so does my son.I would listen to it even if I didn't have children. It's just really sweet with good music and vocals, and a good choice of songs as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for going to sleep by
I play this for me (and I DO have kids, Dash being one).I have to agree with both reviewers. It is relaxing, comforting, soothing, and peaceful...so much so I am usually asleep by the fourth song and wake up to realize the whole CD played and I missed it!Definitely not for drowsy drivers! But if you want to be cozy, comforted, and peaceful at home, then this CD is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Worship
I happened to pick this up the other day and was just so pleased with the sweet tone to this worship compilation. My commute to and from work can be so stressful, but this cd soothes my soul. I love it...I do not have children, but if I did, it would be their bedtime listening! There is so much to say, so let me just tackle each song.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Good
I had bought this cd because I heard the cd's last two tracks on the tv. This cd is actually really good. I thought it was going to be okay, but a lot of the songs were testimonies, songs of encouragement and exaltation to the Lord and that's why I think it is actually great. That was the reason I had listened to it for two weeks straight.

Long known as the Five Blind Boys of Alabama, this venerable gospel institution has seen its ranks fluctuate in recent years. Rarely, however, have the soul-stirring harmonies of the group, recording here as a quartet, benefited from such stellar support. Producer John Chelew (best known for John Hiatt's breakthrough Bring the Family) has enlisted guitarists David Lindley and John Hammond, bassist Danny Thompson, drummer Michael Jerome, and harmonica ace Charlie Musselwhite for a set that celebrates the bluesy underpinnings of gospel.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You don't have to be a big gospel fan to enjoy this
The Blind Boys reach out here to broaden their base beyond the traditional gospel fan. They start out by covering material by the Rolling Stones (I just wanna see his face from Exile On Main Street), Tom Waits, and others. They add some mainstraem guest stars to further broaden the appeal. There's blues, rock, soul here all blended together expertly.
5-0 out of 5 stars You'll fall in love with the Blind Boys after listening to this CD
If you weren't already in love with the Blind Boys, you will fall in love with them and their music after listening to this CD.
5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable
I saw the Blind Boys of Alabama for the first time on Austin City Limits, singing "Amazing Grace." I remember being completely drawn in at the harmony and the rendition, as it sounded almost like a chain gang. The beginning cadence sounds a bit like "The House of the Rising Sun," but you forget about that once the vocals start in.The rest of the CD is equally moving.I've read other reviews claiming goosebumbs, tears, etc. -- my sentiments exactly.Bravo.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ship spoiled for a hap'worth of tar
This box set is nearly five star- nearly, but not quite. I have to agree with other reviewers about the fifth disc; it's unlikely that many are purchasing this without already owning the American Recordings, so the 'best of' fifth disc is bound to meanbuying the same music for the second time. The packaging is so good that it's a real shame that it's let down by careless, sloppy, disrespectful typos (e.g. 'Roseanne' is spelled three different ways). It's just as easy to get it right- and at this price it's fair to expect that the Lost Highway Label should have taken a little time and professional pride, just like Johnny did.

5-0 out of 5 stars I liked Johnny...
...and I still like Johnny Cash. As I write this, having just recieved the box set today, it's playing in the bakground. It's outstanding, get it. If you buy and sell, if you exchange money for "things", and who doesn't, these are funds well appropriated.

So I have "Illuminate" and "A Collision" (the best CD of all time!) but decided that my collection was missing something if I did not purchase "Can You Hear Us?"I'm very glad I did!The CD starts off with "I Need Words," which is just David and an acoustic guitar and is sparse but beautiful. Then it goes onto track 2 with "Our Love Is Loud," a rocking song that is classic David Crowder.Track 3, "You're My Everything" is one of my favorites as David's voice is perfectly fragile and each inflection he sings fits with the emotion of the song.Tracks four and five are also very good songs that make you want to sing along.I have mixed feelings, however, with track 6, "All Creatures of our God and King."The tempo is kind of odd and it does not sound nearly as good as "All Creatures #2" that is on Illuminate.Oh well."God of Wrath" is a cool song, but one of my favorites is David Crowder's cover of "Obsession" by Delirious. The song and theme work to David's strength and when he's singing "And my heart burns for you," you know that he truly means it."My Hope" is also a very strong track on this CD that makes you want to sing the chorus with him.Track 10 is a cover of a Sinead O'Conner song ("Thank You For Hearing Me"), which works perfectly with a Christian song and David ends it with "My Jesus, I love thee; I know Thou Art Mine."Very cool. Then we have a cover of Matt Redman's song "Undiginified," which David also makes his own.Lastly, there is the secret song "You Alone" that finishes off the album beautifully with the repeating words "I'm Alive, I'm Alive."All in all, this is a very strong worship album. The cool thing about the David Crowder Band is that they can take any song and make it cool and put their own seal on it.Many bands don't have a signature sound or do covers that try to sound like the original (but usually fail). Not so with this band. His voice is filled with such passion that it makes you want to close your eyes and sing along. This CD, in my opinion, is not as good as "Illuminate" (which is definitely a five star album as well) or as good as "A Collision," (which is a six star album!).However, you can see how the David Crowder band has matured with each CD and are just getting better and better (I also think it is amazing how his 3 full length CDs here on Amazon all have an average rating of 5!).If you do not have this CD, I highly recommend because it has many good tracks and your CD collection wouldn't be the same without it.Rock on, David Crowder!

4-0 out of 5 stars Unique Sound, Solid Lyrics
This album is full of worshipful Christian lyrics combined with a sound that is very catchy.
4-0 out of 5 stars Can you hear us? David Crowder CD
Very gripping lyrics. Not as appealing as "Illuminate" project but still a must buy for any worshipers out there. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What The Man in Black was meant to be
Finally, Johnny Cash finds what he was meant to be. Just his guitar playing, his voice, and a great selection of songs make this a must have. Johnny was a legend and this is his album, what he wanted to do all of his life. Buy this it is wonderful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stark simplicity, sincerity and sacredness...
The 15 songs selected by Johnny not that long before his death all came literally from his mom's favorite hymnal. That is the weakness of the effort, to me, because of a certain lack of variety in content. I agree also with an earlier reviewer who noted that Johnny's guitar work was too subdued here. (Perhaps in his illness, his pickin' suffered more than his vocalizing. While not as strong a voice as he showed on his 1993 American Recordings debut, it really is better than I expected.) Johnny does have some uptempo selections here, and they are the best on the disc. However, in his "Personal File" double-CD set recently released on Sony/Legacy, you get a whole disc of acoustic hymns and spirituals sung in Johnny's 1970's voice. That CD, overall, is much more compelling than this one. True fans will demand to own both, of course. In the "Personal File" effort, you also get a disc of Johnny singing traditional country songs, along with some self-penned tracks and a few 1970's era songs by other artists like Johnny Horton, John Prine and Carlene Carter. The cost of the two CD's of "Personal File" is just a tiny bit more than what you'll pay for "My Mother's Hymn Book" so I highly recommend making that purchase first. His religious disc from "Personal File" has hardly been out of my car CD player since I got it five or six weeks ago, and yet I am not a very religious person. They just grab you. So does "My Mother's Hymn Book" but not as powerfully.

3-0 out of 5 stars Frankly, I expected more...
I am a huge fan of hymns. And after watching "Walk the Line" and reading about Johnny Cash immediately thereafter, I am a huge fan of the Man in Black. And this album was a disappointment to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring...Thank you
What a wonderful album. Simple inspirational songs by a great singer. The execution is very professional...a hallmark of Vince Gill albums.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amy and Vince harmonize beautifully
How can anyone say this is a terrible cd? It's great. I love it. I am an Amy fan and have been for quite some time and I think they are all great and this latest one is one of the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Amy's best yet
We bought multiple copies to give to friends after hearing this great CD. You won't be disappointed. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad At All,
This is a pretty decent cd. The music is beautifully done and it is awesome. It might be a little slow, but it is relaxing. there is only one song i really liked on this cd and it is, Wich Of Couse, Amazing Grace.

5-0 out of 5 stars Country at its best!
This Cd is awesome I've had it for quite some time. Shenandoah does one of my fav versions of Beulah Land. A blessing everytime I listen to it......STILL!

5-0 out of 5 stars Slow, maybe, but Beautifully Slow
I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to hear "Amazing Grace" any other way but slow.Lari White sings it beautifully, with reverence. That's the way most of these tracks are.The females are the highlight.Lari White, Martina McBride, Susan Ashton, Allison Krause, and of course Emmylou. The production values are better than you can find on anycountry gospel album.I think Martina McBride's "How Great Thou Art" is being played on loudspeaker at the pearly gates for eternity.I'm not overly religious or emotional, but this album sooths my soul and brings a tear to my eye. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Decent but needs some work
It's decent music definately professional but It needs some work to break the monotony and bring out more colors in the songs.I wouldn't recommend this one just yet but perhaps the next one will be better.

5-0 out of 5 stars decyfer down--end of grey
This is a great cd from a new band. "break free" is a great rock song that you don't want to miss. --I rate this cd 9/10

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't wait for these guys next CD
This album has ten songs and all that have hooks that grab you and pull you in. Heavy guitars and a lead singer with a great voice who puts his heart into every note he sings. This album had my head bobbing on their fast songs. I even enjoy the pop sounding ballard "here to you". My favorite is the second cut "Life Again". ... Read more
